[00:14] As always, we have new additions to the tapestry in this episode. A couple episodes ago, we pointed out this frame of who we thought was Rhaenyra talking into the full tapestry of Rhaenyra's council, and I think we were wrong. This
[00:27] gossiping together. >> The whole >> Now, this might seem like a small detail, but it's very important. In season 2, the opening tapestry only ever showed events that had already happened
[00:40] in the show. But, we saw this shot of Sabitha and Toren in episode 4 before Perhaps, like Helaena's dreams, we are now seeing not only the past, but also the future. This means that we should
[00:53] pay extra attention to any new additions. Corlys is also mostly filled where he was only half present. This indicates his turn in this episode where he'll decide to return to Rhaenyra. But, whether he'll be able to, we have yet to
[01:06] men, and darn it, I'm still not sure who that it could be Larys and Tyland, or Tom Tangletongue and Janos. Some of you in the comments also suggested it could be Gwyn Hightower and Criston Cole
[01:19] taking separate paths after last episode. But, none of these exactly fit we know it might be future events as well, perhaps we'll have to wait and see who these two people are. Next, we see a new shot where two assassins rip a gold
[01:32] tapestry. And this represents the way that Ormund's campaign against the City apart. We open on the remnants of episode, he led them through bogs and hacking through the brush, and they lost
[01:46] though they have no hope of winning against the rivermen, Cole wants to meet them head on in battle anyways. >> I'm the realm's greatest warrior, >> and I will die as such. >> The green soldiers find a grizzly scene
[01:59] at the Tully camp with dead bodies littered everywhere, only for some of all. And this is a remix of a scene from Fire and Blood, the book this show is adapted from. In Fire and Blood, Criston Cole and his host come across a
[02:12] grotesque mockery of a feast where the river men pose dead bodies from the fish feed battle to intimidate them. Then, a few days later, they come across another feast and don't pay attention to it, but this time it's not dead bodies. They are
[02:24] dead bodies instead. Now, the show adapted the horrible feast last episode with the feast for traitors of the gold cloaks that Daemon encountered, and now we see the second part adapted. Now, the dead bodies on the ground do appear to
[02:37] also see the House Mallister crest on a shield here and lots of men wearing the says, >> They did not fall here. recognize that something is up, and just as he says that, the soldiers playing
[02:50] dead rise up and attack. And we see a man wearing the shield of House Cole get stabbed here. Now, Criston was painting his shield with these colors a few squire. Criston attacks with his flail, and we saw him use the same weapon in
[03:03] his very first appearance in episode 1 when he used it to defeat Daemon. Heel. >> Now, for all his faults, Criston is very talented in battle. Sir Criston defends one of the men from a member of House
[03:16] plow sigil he wears on his chest. In Game of Thrones, Robert Baratheon's party stops at Castle Darry on their way back to King's Landing from visiting Ned ordered that Sansa's direwolf be killed in revenge for Arya and Nymeria

[04:53] season 1, episode 5 of the show. That was the episode where Alicent wore the also the episode where Criston entered ending his own life. But then, the other
[05:05] shoe drops. This was all a setup to lure the green forces into a trap surrounded on all sides by the river men and the winter wolves. This is almost exactly including some of the dialogue. One key difference is that in the book, Criston
[05:18] asks, "If I strike my banners, do you promise us our lives?" But in the show, >> Will you spare my men their lives? >> He knows his own life is forfeit, and in >> You would march us towards certain death. This is your goal all along.
[05:32] originally from Ser Jaremy Blackwood in the book. >> I don't have near enough bones yet. >> But this makes sense because the show is make it easier for viewers to understand. Fire and Blood is a
[05:45] sprawling history with hundreds of characters, but a TV show that just out Alicent's handkerchief from his sleeve and wraps it around the hilt of his sword. And as he does so, the green musical motif plays. This is most
[05:58] and it represents Alicent herself and the green side of the war. Alicent gave Criston this handkerchief when he left for battle in season 2, and it was him to Gawain at the end of the season. He clearly still loves her, or at least the
[06:12] last episode. >> And they will sing songs of it, and >> Now, in the book, Criston also tries to have a solo challenge against the lords, but instead of one against two, he asked for one against three. He's nothing if
[06:26] going to die on this battlefield, he wants it to be a glorious death. But treatment, much like Jace earlier this season. Criston Cole doesn't go down the stuff of songs, but is instead mercilessly dispatched like a pest. The
[06:42] archer is Black Aly, or Alyssa Blackwood. Now, we saw her singing after character in the book, so hopefully we see more of her soon. I did miss the line that is said in the book after Cole's death. One of the rivermen says,
[06:55] died, kingmaker. There's tens of thousands of dead on your account." Now, like we saw in season 2, >> kingmaker, Second on the throne. He was instrumental in the start of the Dance
[07:09] of Dragons, but now his role is finally over. The soldiers rush in to take out the battle that is to be known as the Butcher's Ball, because as one of the lords says afterwards, "Today was butchery, not battle." We cut from
[07:22] handkerchief to Alicent herself. She and Helaena tried to escape last episode was blocked. We also missed that this is the same exact passage that Rhaenyra went out in the streets of King's Landing with Daemon. Now, Rhaenyra had
[07:37] her freedom through this tunnel, but Alicent's way is blocked. And this is resentment between these two women because Rhaenyra was free to do as she pleased while Alicent was a slave to her duties. In the small council, Daemon is
[07:50] raging after the massacre of the gold cloaks. As always, there's a conflict Daemon wants to burn Tumbleton in order to kill Ormund and the Hightower army, but Mysaria knows that's playing into Ormund's hands and will make Rhaenyra
[08:03] look like a monster in the eyes of the realm. Lady Sabitha Frey and Lord Thoren Manderly are back at their usual snark, but Daemon has had enough. Allun showing that he's a capable hand in his father's place. Daemon says,
[08:16] the Field of Fire. >> Now, the Field of Fire was a battle in which Aegon took on two of the Kings of Westeros, the Gardener King of the Reach and the Lannister King of Casterly Rock and all of their forces. All three of
[08:28] the Targaryen dragons burned the dry fields surrounding the armies and killed Gardener, which is why in the present day the Tyrells rule the Reach. But, as died were enemy soldiers and not civilians. Aegon even took care to
[08:44] position the Targaryen foot soldiers upwind of the fields so they wouldn't be >> My father would abhor it. >> Now, Rhaenyra is modeling her rule after what Viserys was like as a king because she perceives him as having been a good
[08:57] ruler, but it was more because he the Conciliator than because of his own abilities as a king. He was actually a weak man who didn't like making hard decisions. So, it's dangerous for
[09:10] footsteps. Now, at the same time, it's better for her to take lessons from Viserys than from Daemon who is dangerously volatile. Rhaenyra decides of waiting for her army and Daemon wants to go, but she stops him.
[09:24] face. >> Instead, she decides to send the Baratheon representative. Now, Rhaenyra summons Borros Baratheon to her court to thought he would declare for her because Rhaenys was part Baratheon by blood,
[09:37] Aemond agreed to a marriage pact with man that she sent Luke to treat with because she thought that it would be an easy task, but it ended in his death. Just like in the book, however, Lord
[09:49] steady. Instead of fighting for the Blacks, he took his men south to fight the Vulture King. Now, this is the third man who bore the title Vulture King. These were a series of Dornish outlaws in the Red Mountains that divide the

[10:54] Landing saying, >> Hot Pie. Pie himself, one of the Night's Watch recruits who teamed up with Arya and around the Riverlands. Ulf complains about being banned from his tavern and
[11:07] he does admit that he wouldn't go back to his life as it was before. I think question, especially watching over his wife who's been taken hostage as a result of his choices. Rhaenyra goes to confront Alicent about her escape
[11:21] attempt. Once again, Rhaenyra is caught between what she wants to do and what she must be seen to do. Ever since she took the throne, she's been intensely her court and with the smallfolk. She gave this as a reason why she couldn't
[11:34] go free in episode 3. >> But until then, I cannot be seen to >> She is forced to confine Alicent and Helaena further, but the key point of this interaction is the end. >> You are a Hightower. To my court, you
[11:47] >> And to you? >> Alicent wants to remind Rhaenyra that queen, and at a certain point, she has to stop worrying about what other people think and do what she thinks is right. Alicent has been an ally to Rhaenyra,
[12:01] betraying her own sons for her, and she feels the ways in which this has gone and now she and her daughter are prisoners, and now her daughter's life is in danger because she's pregnant. Alicent wants Rhaenyra to choose her,
[12:14] but Rhaenyra just walks away. Rhaenyra tells Mysaria about Helaena's pregnancy. Now, of course, Mysaria already knows this after last episode, but she kept it Hightowers. She subtly probes to find out if Alicent told Rhaenyra about
[12:27] >> And the others, you know? >> But this Alicent and Mysaria secret for now. >> You have suffered my suspicion.
[12:39] before, but this is just a straight-up lie. That's not going to be good for Mysaria if Rhaenyra finds out. Mysaria and a guard watch some servants in the untrustworthy servant to the guard, saying,
[12:51] >> This is what Rhaenyra asked her to do after she took over, rooting out Hightower loyalists among the members of the keep. But still, it's uncomfortably reminiscent of the way that Larys did the same thing for Alicent. Back with
[13:03] remnants of the feast for traitors. Now, various gold cloaks come to him to out of it, but unlike his rousing speech to them last episode, this time his arrogance really comes through. >> Before I let you out of your squalor and
[13:17] >> He thinks of the gold cloaks as an extension of himself, but he has money and power that they do not, and they don't appreciate the way that he sees himself above them as the man turns in his cloak. Damon says, "Shame."
[13:31] Cersei's walk of shame through King's Landing. >> Next, we cut to Corlys and Allen outside of King's Landing, where Allen asks for soldiers from Driftmark to King's Landing to shore up their defenses while
[13:44] says, >> So, she asks more of me. >> It is I who ask. >> At the small council earlier this episode, we saw that this was initially Allen's idea. Corlys rages against
[13:56] Rhaenyra for not granting Adam and Allen legitimacy, and Allen reminds him, the same? >> Corlys is caught up in the feeling of doing right by his sons, and he forgets that for many years he was the main
[14:09] source of their unhappiness. Corlys tells Allen that Tyland Lannister is course, we know this information is out of date. Tyland is digging a hole for the man that Aegon killed last episode, Janice. Now, Aegon did take
[14:22] himself when he discovered their identities, but now Tyland has to clean exhausted himself digging the hole while Larys and Aegon stand by and do nothing. he's not the first son of House
[14:36] warrior. He's capable enough in battles, but he's still used to a comfortable life. And notwithstanding, he just survived getting dumped in the ocean not critiques him, and he says, >> If you was to dig deeper, Lord Larys,
[14:50] >> Larys says that he's found passage to Braavos on a merchant ship out of has sided with the Blacks, so it makes sense that Larys urges caution. You might remember those names from Game of Thrones when Arya tried to pretend to be
[15:04] >> Where are you from? Casterly Rock instead, and Aegon trust. He asks Tyland, >> Do you think I'm a terrible man?
[15:17] non-answer, and Aegon chooses to follow Larys's suggestion instead. He's now learned which of his advisors is willing to be honest with him, so he holds Larys making us respect Aegon just a little bit more. Rather than becoming defensive
[15:31] last episode, he seems like he might be willing to accept the truth and learn from it. Next, we go to Rhaena in the Vale eating blackberries. Now, this is nettles are two plants that often grow together. Having her eat blackberries
[15:45] might hint that nettles are on her mind, and perhaps that might be a false name she could use to hide her identity. We've discussed many times how before in Rhaena, but instead by a peasant girl named Nettles. But, ever since Rhaena
[15:58] took refuge in the Vale, we've begun to theorize that Nettles and Rhaena are one actually took on the identity of Nettles to protect herself from Rhaenyra's written from a maester learning from second-hand accounts many years after
[16:12] the Dance, nothing in it is entirely reliable information. Rhaena sees her distance, accompanied presumably by Addam on Seasmoke. The two of them have been regularly patrolling on Rhaenyra's orders. At Harrenhal, we see Alys caring
[16:25] >> It's been a long since anyone sought to defend me. >> Now, Alys has been of low station for a long time. She's a bastard, a woman, and without wealth or political power. Her influence has instead been trying to
[16:37] sway more powerful people to her will, like she did with Daemon last season, when he refused her wishes. >> The crown is not in the habit of giving out castles to midwives. >> However, her approach with Aemond seems
[16:50] Lady Jane Arryn at the Eyrie watching some poor soul get tossed out the moon execution that they use in the Vale. Lysa Arryn threatened to do the same eventually got pushed through the door herself. Jane hits Rhaena and scolds her
[17:05] for leaving her hiding place to look for Baela, reminding her of the danger that >> All my life, I have yearned after a dragon. And now I else. >> This is a consistent theme on this show.
[17:19] To achieve what you want, you have to be willing to sacrifice everything. [music] to lose two of her children. And Alicent had to agree to the murder of her sons to do what she knew was the right thing and support Rhaenyra. Aemond had to
[17:32] in order for Jace to achieve glory in battle, he had to lose his life. Now, Rhaena too has to face the realities of the choices that she's made. >> Alyn comes [clears throat] across Baela sleeping, and it looks like they're
[17:45] Now, Baela has been driving herself into the ground trying to redeem herself after Jace's death, in both Rhaenyra's eyes and in her own. The two of them bond over their absent fathers, Corlys and Daemon. Another common motif in this
[17:58] fathers and their children. Rhaenyra, Alicent, Baela, Rhaena, Adam, Alyn, and complicated relationships with their fathers or father figures. Baela and Alyn also bond over being eldest children burdened with responsibility.
[18:13] what you want. >> Then the two of them bond even further. Blood, but we won't go into detail because we've yet to see how they're
[18:25] still royalty, while Alyn is an unlegitimized bastard. So, no one's relationship. In Tumbleton, Gawain has returned from the army to meet with his cousin Ormund. He confronts Ormund about the insanity of his plan, and Ormund
[18:39] >> Rhaenyra will not burn her own subjects. She is a woman, squeamish. the sight of battle later in the episode. He also conspicuously sniffs from his perfume as he talks to Gawain, who is still covered in mud from his
[18:53] Later, Ormund says, >> Make sure he bathes. because it was madness to face the Riverlords head-on, only to go to Ormund, whose plan is to face the Riverlords head-on. It really is
[19:06] Gawain's terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Ormund claims the great Gawain asks, >> Have any yet come? Baratheon is doing nothing but delaying sending his men. And now we know from
[19:19] Rhaenyra's side that Lord Borros has run off to fight Dorne instead of getting accuses Gawain of being a coward and says, your brothers in arms.
[19:31] like a snide remark about Gawain's sexuality. There have been theories for than friendship going on between him and were right. As soon as they're out of Ormund's sight, Gawain immediately
[19:43] been going on. >> I have to get through it. >> Now, this word choice is interesting. Fawning is a specific term used for behaviors of abuse victims, where the victim will avoid abuse by attempting to
[19:56] James Norton, has called Ormund and Daeron's relationship toxic and abusive, seems that Gawain and Daeron are much closer. what he is. >> Earlier this season, we speculated that
[20:09] they might be close because Daeron seemed excited about the idea of Gawain >> Is Gawain coming to Tumbleton? >> Gawain also spoke fondly of Daeron when >> Daeron says, >> I do what I can to keep him from, you
[20:23] >> And this reminded us of the scene in episode four where Daeron urged the servant boy to get out of Ormund's way before he started raging. It might be by Ormund's wrath before, and he's trying to stop it from happening again.
[20:35] >> I hate what I am when I'm with him. >> Daeron is haunted by what Ormund made him do, killing a man who was only defending his family. He also clearly doesn't want the throne. He's only going along with it to keep Ormund placated.
[20:48] we've gotten from Daeron so far in the show. He can only be himself when he's around Gawain, which shows why he's resentful that Gawain left him behind with this monster. And Daeron also knows the truth of Ormund's plot. He only
[21:01] can't sit on it himself. By raising Daeron up as a Hightower king, Ormund can get as close as possible to his dream removing the Targaryens and raising the Hightowers up as the lords of Westeros. But Daeron also can't
[21:15] protection. >> Tell him you won't do it. Then who will >> If he stands on his own, there's no one to keep him safe from Rhaenyra and the forces of the blacks. Daeron is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Now,
[21:27] because he knows he'll be the head of House Hightower if Ormund is killed. So, he has to prepare. Since Ormund is currently the leader of House Hightower, we can assume that Otto's older brother, who we saw in season 1, is also dead.
[21:40] >> Please. >> And the final line of this scene is heartbreaking. [music] Daeron asks, >> Did you see my mother? scene where Alicent asked Gwayne about her youngest son. Mother and son have
[21:53] been separated for his entire life, and they both just want to have hope for the thing from Alicent that she wanted for him, kindness. Back in the Red Keep, >> eat. >> Helaena is suffering in confinement just
[22:07] would. She's working on her embroidery as we've seen before in season 2. And are seeing each episode in the opening the tragedy of her house. This is similar to how season 1 showed us the
[22:21] building. Helaena confronts Alicent >> I'm sorry I knew of all plan, but she said nothing of Jaehaera. >> Just like we said last episode, Alicent never intended to take Jaehaera with
[22:34] granddaughter, as little more than a burden. She never wanted kids, so she has a hard time understanding how much Helaena loves her daughter. Alicent >> But then Helaena asks, >> Me?
[22:47] >> Now, this is an interesting insight into Alicent's character. Last season, when freedom, she wasn't talking about freedom for Helaena. She wanted to go she imagined a life free from responsibility, that was her own dream.
[23:02] >> I am at last myself, with no ambition greater than to walk where I please and to breathe the open air and be free. >> I think this season she's reframing that desire as a desire for freedom for Helena, because that's easier to justify
[23:15] in her own mind than the desire being selfish. She also believes, I think, that if she can save Helena, it will redeem her as a mother, just like when >> You, I may yet redeem. >> Helena hasn't done anything, so why does
[23:28] she need to be redeemed? The one who needs redemption is Alicent herself. embroidery needle and we can see marks on her hands where she's done it before. Alicent's own coping mechanism of picking and biting her nails. Even in
[23:42] their self-harm mechanisms, they are both so similar. But, Alicent stops her from doing this. She's trying to break a horrible cycle, but she has no real embroidery and Helena has depicted Alice Rivers and Aemond at Harrenhal. Aemond's
[23:56] sapphire eye is visible as he appears to be in a red womb or something similarly Georgia O'Keeffe under Alice's control. Aemond's mommy issues are really coming his sister knows it. We cut to Harrenhal where Aemond is discovered by a stable
[24:10] of the few residents of the castle last >> There's an old man who turns the butter, but he is blind in both eyes, and the >> Now, Alice quickly dispatches the boy to protect Aemond's identity. In this
[24:25] moment, Aemond seems to wake up to the fact that Alice has the capacity for the power of women to be dangerous, smart, or violent. You can actually see mother of manipulating him or the way he sent her away from court.
[24:39] to more domestic pursuits. >> But, he's seen something that he hasn't recognized before in Alice. He asks her why she didn't kill him to claim the bounty of Harrenhal for herself. And this is a question that a lot of viewers
[24:52] have been asking, but Alice doesn't just want Harrenhal, she wants power. Alice shows him five dragon eggs that she's kept hidden away. Now, these are the eggs of Dreamfyre from their ancestor Rhaena Targaryen's stay at Harrenhal.
[25:04] Rhaena Targaryen was the granddaughter of Aegon the Conqueror and was briefly the wife of Aegon the Uncrowned. Maegor the Cruel usurped Aegon the Uncrowned's throne and killed him in battle and then later forced Rhaena to become his wife.
[25:16] After Maegor's death, Rhaena was granted Dragonstone to stay on during the reign Conciliator. She had many close female companions including a woman named Alyssa Farman, her sister-in-law. Alyssa betrayed Rhaena, stole three dragon eggs
[25:29] from Dreamfyre, and escaped across the Narrow Sea. These are the dragon eggs that would later be Daenerys's eggs in Game of Thrones. Now, much time later, Rhaena's daughter Aerea died horribly after trying to claim the dragon
[25:41] mysterious deaths in the Song of Ice and Fire series. We don't know where that she ended up in the ruins of Old Valyria where she was infected by some kind of curse or parasite and then died shortly after her return to Westeros.
[25:56] After that, Rhaena took up isolated residency in Harrenhal and now we know that her dragon Dreamfyre laid one last clutch of eggs that have been hidden all this time. And Dreamfyre is also still alive. She is now Helaena's dragon.
[26:08] and Alicent says, >> To imagine that you alone know what it is to be cursed. >> And what is her deal? Every episode, Alicent has been soberly muttering about how she's cursed and about the spirits
[26:21] likely that her long life isn't a blessing but a curse and she's tied to the castle in some spiritual way. She even said in season 2, >> I'm no longer a tall woman. I'm an owl. Cursed to live in human form.
[26:35] >> Which, considering that wargs exist in Game of Thrones, could be true. But, it get some real answers about what's going on with her very soon. >> If your spirit is willing. >> Alicent's hand still has blood on it
[26:47] leaves a mark on the egg. As it does so, Aemond says that the egg feels warm. This could be a coincidence, but it could also be some of the blood magic that the Targaryens used to bond with dragons in the first place. So, in order
[27:00] for Danny's dragons to wake in Game of Thrones, her son and husband had to die. Maybe death is required to rouse a dragon. And then, just like with his figure. >> And they need to be stopped.
[27:12] >> And considering that Alicent talks about his sons being Targaryen princes just a kissing is all she has in mind. And thankfully, we cut back to the Red the populace. One man complains about a lack of tallow, which we also heard
[27:26] mentioned in episode 3 shortly after Rhaenyra took power. store of candles. Tallow is short. We we must requisition a new supply or sit in >> And following Mysaria's instructions, she blames it all on her new master of
[27:40] >> [crying] >> It is his task now. protection for the Great Sept because one of the Septas was kidnapped. Mysaria hears this and looks empathetic. Now, she knows what it's like to be a common
[27:53] girl. But Rhaenyra doesn't have it in her to show care or sympathy. Instead, her to show care or sympathy. Instead, she just says, attend the Sept. >> Rhaenyra blames the Gold Cloaks' murders
[28:07] Mysaria react like she wants to interrupt. Now, yes, this is true. Those Hightower, but that's not a comfort or a help to the small folk. They don't are at work here. They just want Rhaenyra to do something for them, and
[28:22] becomes muffled, and the high-pitched ringing tone overpowers all sound as Rhaenyra realizes she's cut herself on the Iron Throne. Now, the shrill sound kept playing in episode 3 this season whenever Rhaenyra's sanity was slipping,

[28:49] Rhaenyra. Her father regularly cut himself on the throne and it led to the infections and illnesses that caused him to waste away. Maegor the Cruel was also murdered, but some believe that the throne itself killed him. Now, Rhaenyra
[29:02] Valyrian scrolls and her family history, so she's no stranger to this idea. She immediately hides the wound and looks frightened. This is confirming her own worst fears that she is not fit to rule. She looks up at the statues in the hall,
[29:15] particularly the one of her father, Viserys. Maybe the cut is making her maybe she's wondering if he made a mistake in naming her heir. Also, this Viserys statue, and I love that he is holding his model of Old Valyria in his
[29:31] arms. They memorialized him with his most beloved hobby. Rhaenyra snaps and shot of the Iron Throne from above is incredible. It looks almost like a tree, perhaps representing the weirwood trees of the old gods. It could also just
[29:45] almost characterized as a living thing. Outside in the streets of King's cloak himself to try to lure out the killer. Much like when he went face-to-face with the Crab Feeder alone in season 1, if Daemon wants something
[29:58] The assassin is the man with the heterochromia from last season, who we also saw was one of the green soldiers that Alicent persuaded to stand down in the Daring. Now, this is the name that Ormond himself gave Darren when he
[30:12] knighted him in Fire and Blood after Darren arrived on his dragon to save the battle in the show, but the moniker stuck. The assassin says, we have no sign of sitting. >> And this reminded me of the Brotherhood
[30:25] These were outlaws who rejected the great houses and instead made it their mission to protect the small folk from the war. They are led by Beric the Brotherhood are generally a fairly heroic group, so it's interesting to
[30:39] assassin. He genuinely believes that he is doing the right thing for the people of Westeros. Damon kills the man and then bumps into Ulf on the street. Damon takes out his rage on Ulf. He resents that Rhaenyra isn't letting him go to
[30:52] who is much lower than him. He also just hates Ulf. >> Then I have no style. So fashion one. >> Ulf says a man deserves his simple understand, and Damon then knocks him
[31:04] Damon for two reasons. One is that it feels like a snide comment about Damon's mistakes, like taking Rhaenyra out to a brothel when she was a girl. But it also implies that Ulf and Damon are alike, and Damon resents that more than
[31:17] two of them before, but in Damon's eyes, he is leagues above the worth of someone like Ulf. Damon says, >> Set foot in the city again, and I'll put >> And we know that based on last episode that he isn't afraid to follow through.
[31:32] green assassin sees this confrontation and scurries off to report it. Probably of the tensions between the Targaryen royalty and their commonborn riders. And speaking of, Hugh Hammer decides to take
[31:45] queen. He attacks this poor farmer from Tumbleton, punching him out. And we've seen how effective he is as a fighter in season 2, when he fought over the food enters the city right behind the Baratheon delegation, two factions from
[31:59] intentions to enter the town. As Hugh sneaks in, we hear Ormund say, or concern. >> He's proving Ormund wrong in this very moment by easily deceiving to sneak into the city. Ormund talks about commonborn
[32:14] they are often fueled by something that's missing in their lives. >> Some shame or lust or rage. >> It cuts to Gwayne, and I think he's thinking about Criston Cole. Cole's rise was inspired by all three of those
[32:27] things: shame, lust, and rage. He felt shame about his affairs with Rhaenyra and Alicent, and he raged at Rhaenyra for rejecting him. Ormund compliments Corlys Velaryon as Rhaenyra's choice for hand. Now, Corlys is widely respected in
[32:39] the Seven Kingdoms and this shows. Now, the Velaryons are an old and powerful house and they're also from Old Valyria, but I guess Ormond doesn't mind that as Corlys has sided with the Blacks, but both sides do still hold him in high
[32:52] regard. Darren asks what Ormand thinks of Otto and Ormand laughs. Now, we know answered any of Otto's letters from the Red Keep. From the way that Ormand talks about the Targaryens, including Viserys, I'm sure he didn't appreciate Otto
[33:05] and marrying a Hightower to him. Gawain looks angry and yeah, Ormand is also shit-talking Gawain's dad a couple of weeks after he's been murdered. I'd be representatives arrive and Ormand is immediately pleased. He is finally being
[33:19] houses would follow him, but his pleasure fades when he sees them and worse. Now, when they showed up to King's Landing, this delegation was road to Tumbleton was just rough, but we think it's also quite possible that
[33:34] themselves because she knew that it would offend Ormand's delicate constitution and distract him. >> He has a sensitivity to odors. >> This knight claims to be Arryk Baratheon, a new character created for

[34:16] swiftly dispatch the Baratheons and Ormand shows how brave he truly is. knew that her husband had claimed Vermithor at the Red Sowing, but
[34:31] >> you were dead. >> In season 2, she pleaded with him to not >> They'd make you a lady. >> I do not care to be a lady, Hugh, and neither do I want to be a widow. >> She left King's Landing because she was
[34:46] barely surviving. In season 2, the smallfolk were suffering and starving under Aegon and then Aemond's rule with Rhaenyra's blockade in place. Remember, Hugh and Kat's daughter died during that time. And now we learn that she went
[34:58] journey to Tumbleton. >> Many things happened. >> This woman has been through so much in just a few short months, and her husband was not there for any of it. She has a right to be angry at him. He essentially
[35:10] station, and now he expects her to be happy about it. >> I didn't want it. >> He tries to drag her off when she refuses to go with him, and she asks him who he is. Hugh was a good man, but
[35:22] changed him. Remember, during the Red Sowing, the reason he claimed Vermithor was because he was defending a woman. He tried to be kind and protect his family, but now that he feels untouchable, he is more prone to violence, even against his
[35:35] the blood off the floor from the assassins as Ormund stands next to the open window, presumably to avoid the smell. He may be dismissive of the to see to his needs. Darren is practicing his sword work in the yard,
[35:49] just like his brother Aemond. Ormund apologizes to Gawain for mistreating him >> I'm not stopping. >> But instead, Gawain confronts Ormund about his actual plan. Now, we don't really know what Ormund is planning, but
[36:03] Gawain is right. Ormund doesn't really care about Darren being a good king. Darren to save his own life. >> I think you'd sacrifice lives to feed sacrifice your own. >> But if that was his plan, he could have
[36:18] just have to wait and see. We go to Alicent and Rhaenyra in the Red Keep, where Alicent pleads for Helaena's sake. She offers up information to Rhaenyra in Helaena's embroidery, she knows that Aemond is at Harrenhal. Rhaenyra isn't
[36:32] [music] has spent so much time with the Targaryen histories that she is very dreamers in their family. She mentions Daenys the Dreamer who foresaw the doom of Valyria, but she's also basing her entire reign around Aegon the
[36:46] Conqueror's dream of the song of ice and fire. She's even seen Daemon talk about fire. She's even seen Daemon talk about visions.
[36:58] to take down Aemond at Harrenhal. She plans to send Alicent with an assassin, which Aemond won't see coming. But, we fear that Alice will see this coming. Aemond parted on good terms with Alicent and still doesn't know that she betrayed
[37:10] him. In fact, they parted on very good terms. He invited her to join him in Harrenhal once he conquered the castle, so it wouldn't be unexpected for her to go there and find him if she escaped. Now,
[37:22] multitude of reasons. She picks the easiest one. in the death of her sons, but it's another to see it happen and be the direct cause. She pleads with Rhaenyra,
[37:35] direct cause. She pleads with Rhaenyra, but is ignored. Rhaenyra says, trusted, well-liked character up to this point, I've never trusted Rhaenyra less. And when Rhaenyra first went to Alicent for advice on being queen in episode 3,
[37:51] to harden her heart to rule, but Rhaenyra disagreed. Now, Alicent is against her. Rhaenyra is ignoring their makes Helaena some food and tries to persuade her to eat. Helaena asks if it
[38:05] was Alicent's choice to marry her to Aegon. to betroth Helaena to her own son, Jace. Helaena would still have been queen, but with a much better man. Jace treated Helaena with kindness, and the last The
[38:20] Helaena with kindness, and the last The last saw each other, he danced with her. regretting at this moment. She was forced into an arranged political didn't [music] prevent the same being done to her own daughter, just like her
[38:35] >> It was my father's wish. >> Helaena is holding a small wooden horse. children's toys, and both have brought her grief. She had to suffer through from her daughter, and I think that she blames Alicent for some of that

[39:03] >> Alicent promises the two of them will be free, but from the look on Helaena's moment. Finally, Rhaenyra goes and sits next to her son, Joffrey. She still to King's Landing. She just can't. She can't both harden her heart and admit to
[39:18] the grief and love that she still holds for her children. Rhaenyra receives a "Kick this dog and it will bite your hand" written in blood. And this is very cloaks last episode. And then we see that bite immediately. Ormund's forces
[39:32] from Tumbleton travel under cover of night to Corlys's Velaryon men, killing Corlys was planning to return to the city, he is captured by Jon Roxton. Now, since Ormund was just talking about how much respect he has for Corlys.
