[0:49] dive at the opening scene in which
[0:51] Tyrion Lannister silently surveys the
[0:53] ruins of King's Landing destroyed by
[0:55] Daenerys a war criminal it is dark times
[0:59] and the first element of this dark
[1:00] nightmare that Tyrion notices are
[1:02] falling snowflakes
[1:03] despite Arya defeating the night King
[1:05] and the Battle of Winterfell winter is
[1:07] still coming now arriving and heavy
[1:09] snowfall that blankets this destruction
[1:11] further burying the dead and mixing
[1:13] ominously with the drifting ash of the
[1:15] city's remains snowfall on Game of
[1:16] Thrones has always represented coming
[1:18] death in darkness but now the element is
[1:21] reassigned from the White Walkers to the
[1:23] true arch villain of the series Daenerys
[1:25] Targaryen as long as she breathes
[1:27] Westeros remains under the threat of a
[1:29] long night Tyrians eyes drop to the
[1:31] carnage on the ground a little girl a
[1:33] naked burn victim limping away
[1:35] helplessly evoking the napalm victims of
[1:38] the Vietnam War
[1:38] another soldier sits in the rubble and
[1:40] sobs into his hands and of course the
[1:42] charred horse toy of the girl Arya tried
[1:44] to save this young victim reminds us of
[1:46] Shireen Baratheon terrible fates and for
[1:48] Davos and the others a haunting sign of
[1:51] the danger at the innocent face under
[1:52] Danny's rule
[1:53] Tyrion goes ahead alone Pasi a cracked
[1:55] Bell one of the many bells that he hoped
[1:58] would signal surrender but went not only
[2:00] ignored by Daenerys weaponized when
[2:02] drogon collapsed this bell tower onto
[2:04] Arya Tyrion gazes up at what is left of
[2:07] the red keep with the big change to its
[2:09] skyline being the missing Tower
[2:10] of the hand which was demolished in the
[2:12] battle it reflects how Daenerys his
[2:14] actions have made it literally
[2:15] impossible for Tyrion to serve as her
[2:17] hand John tries to stop grey worm from

[4:43] his ancestors it's really a home that
[4:45] belongs to her and reclaiming it like
[4:47] this reflects John reclaiming Winterfell
[4:49] with the white stark banners after the
[4:51] Battle of the bastards but this victory
[4:52] feels far more ominous Danny and drogon
[4:55] arrive with a perfectly lined up shot of
[4:57] Daenerys with dragons wings spreading
[5:00] out from behind her making it look as
[5:01] though the wings are her own this
[5:03] metamorphosis invokes Daenerys his
[5:05] father the Mad King who would like
[5:07] Daenerys his brother Viserys would
[5:09] threaten to physically transform into a
[5:11] dragon and burn his enemies another
[5:13] example of how Dany has become the ruler
[5:15] that her father was Danny's speech to
[5:17] her troops gives us a glimpse of what
[5:18] rule under her would look like and it is
[5:20] fully she begins by address saying of
[5:22] all people the Dothraki
[5:24] shefket either these dogs get an email
[5:26] okay good on you she could be moti
[5:28] shapka at the beasts oh come on again
[5:31] buddy
[5:32] Dany is calling back to the moment she
[5:34] fired up her blood riders in season six
[5:42] but by opening her speech with a shout
[5:45] out to the most uncivilized pillagers of
[5:47] ranks Daenerys is suggesting that
[5:49] chaotic violence will be a major feature
[5:52] of life with Danny Danny also makes grey
[5:54] worm her new master of war which is kind
[5:56] of bad sign because the position of
[5:58] Master of War is new Cersei invented it
[6:01] when she reorganized a small council
[6:03] after Tywin's death as an attempt to
[6:04] consolidate power and win over uncle
[6:06] Kevan it would please the King if you
[6:08] would serve as his master of war I did
[6:10] not return to the capital to serve as
[6:12] your puppet
[6:13] so Daenerys is keeping the more
[6:15] dangerous aspects of Circe's legacy
[6:17] intact
[6:18] Daenerys didn't free anyone from the
[6:19] grip of a tyrant she just replaced
[6:21] Cersei with a worse tyrant and as she
[6:23] addresses the general on Sully
[6:24] their formation frame sir as an
[6:26] authoritarian dictator kind of the way
[6:28] Hitler Mussolini would address their
[6:30] army formations notice Mountaineers
[6:32] calls them liberators which echoes the
[6:34] Bush administration talking points
[6:36] during the US invasion of Iraq
[6:37] remember Dick Cheney promised the
[6:39] Americans would be greeted as liberators
[6:40] a statement it was later brought up by
[6:42] critics of the invasion remember these
[6:44] are the same showrunners who used a
[6:45] dummy head of George W Bush in the
[6:47] background of season one on a pike they
[6:49] said it wasn't a political statement
[6:51] they later apologized but however he has
[6:53] slice said the anti-war themes are very
[6:55] present in this episode and here in the
[6:58] judgment of Daenerys hawkish sentiment
[7:00] rewards to the unsullied are in valyrian
[7:02] which Jon doesn't speak one of the many
[7:03] nothings he knows he's just really
[7:05] getting the dictator vibes from her tone
[7:06] and body language but his head does turn
[7:08] when Daenerys brings up Winterfell hen

[7:18] kingdom that historically the Targaryen
[7:19] struggled to conquer Tyrion does speak

[7:29] turn when she brings up his home city of
[7:31] Lannisport
[7:32] hey dog that lame yacht Ana's
[7:35] interesting that she brings up carved
[7:36] the Esso city that she left in season 2
[7:38] because it reminds us of the promise
[7:40] that she made to Qarth city leaders the
[7:42] 13 we will take back what was stolen
[7:44] from me and destroy those who wronged me
[7:48] we will lay waste to armies and burn
[7:51] cities to the ground as Tyrion is
[7:53] arrested after his resignation John and
[7:56] Danny's eyes meet with some choice music

[8:11] the cello strings moans sadly as if
[8:13] mourning the death of their relationship

[8:21] about Danny no no I can't know that I
[8:23] see what she's echoing her words to
[8:25] Gendry earlier this season I know dad
[8:30] he's got many faces one of those faces
[8:33] of death was the night king and now Aria
[8:35] is saying that the new face of death is
[8:37] Daenerys John visits Tyrion who says so
[8:40] is the knife off to death not that I've
[8:43] seen Tyrion is recalling that John
[8:45] freaking resurrected and John's response
[8:47] is what he told lady Melisandre what did
[8:49] you see there was nothing at all
[8:53] by bringing this up here this show
[8:55] clearly wants us to remember that Jon
[8:57] Snow was resurrected by the Lord of
[8:59] Light they don't want us to forget it as
[9:00] some random never explained thing that
[9:02] just happened seasons ago so the folks
[9:04] were complaining that John was
[9:05] resurrected for no reason and that
[9:07] prophecies were ignored hold onto those
[9:09] butts John and Tyrion debate over the
[9:11] morality and motivation behind Danny's
[9:13] war crimes and Tyrion assesses his own
[9:16] record I strangled my lover I shot my
[9:19] own father with a crossbow this is a
[9:21] confession by Tyrion for killing Shaye
[9:23] and Tywin he's a doomed man making peace
[9:25] with the gods before his execution
[9:26] remember Jaime actually made these same
[9:28] kind of a confession to Brienne before
[9:30] heading off to his death I pushed a boy
[9:32] out of town and OH
[9:34] crippled him for life I strangled my
[9:37] cousin with my own hands
[9:38] but Syrian is comparing his worst deeds
[9:41] to Daenerys she liberated the people of
[9:43] slavers Bay she liberated the people of
[9:46] King's Landing he'll go on liberating
[9:49] and to the people of the world her free
[9:52] periods argument reflects the famous
[9:54] words of German pastor Martin niemoller
[9:56] the passage reflecting how to moderate
[9:58] Germans during World War two were
[10:00] bystanders excusing the rise of fascism
[10:02] in Germany first they came for the
[10:04] socialists and I did not speak out
[10:05] because I was not a socialist then they
[10:07] came for the trade unionist but I did
[10:08] not speak out because I was not a trade
[10:10] unionist then they came for the Jews and
[10:12] I did not speak out because I was not a
[10:13] Jew then they came for me and there was
[10:15] no one left to speak for me tear

[11:01] in this episode after a bloody transfer
[11:03] of power in King's Landing and an unjust
[11:05] arrest he reaffirms his Night's Watch
[11:07] vows he does his duty to kill that which
[11:10] she loves and ultimately this episode he
[11:12] returns to take the black just like a
[11:15] man once did he was rightful heir to the
[11:17] Iron Throne as well but he stepped aside
[11:19] to allow a younger family member to take
[11:21] his place
[11:21] Tyrion ends a debate with this
[11:23] interesting question who is more
[11:25] dangerous than the rightful heir to the
[11:27] Iron Throne this finale episodes title
[11:29] is the Iron Throne and here Tyrion is
[11:32] sardonically hinting at the deeper theme
[11:34] the evil of right that those who believe
[11:37] that they have the right to power that
[11:39] they deserve power and are within grasp
[11:41] of that power are the most vulnerable to
[11:44] moral corruption and that they become
[11:46] the most desperate and the most violent
[11:48] and their attempt to take that power in
[11:50] this regard Game of Thrones is
[11:51] thematically linking its iconic image
[11:53] the Iron Throne with the equivalent in
[11:55] the Lord of the Rings the Ring of Power
[11:56] just like the Iron Throne the Ring of
[11:58] Power is a man-made treasure forged in
[12:00] fire that corrupts anyone who occupies
[12:03] it will see this comparison play out
[12:04] throughout the final episode John
[12:05] marches to the red keep blocked by
[12:07] drogon rising up in the snow guarding
[12:09] the Queen a wide shot of Jon facing
[12:11] dragons massive head bret presents his
[12:13] vivid scale jon is a classic dragon
[12:16] slayer hero for mythology like Beowulf
[12:18] but the shot actually mirrors the wide
[12:19] shot of Tyrion facing the skull of
[12:21] balerion the dread below earlier it's a
[12:23] sign that Jon has already made up his
[12:24] mind poised to be Tyrians champion in
[12:27] his trial by combat in this trial
[12:28] against the dragon queen
[12:30] Brown looks into Jon's soul similar to
[12:32] the cryptic look that he gave John back
[12:33] in the season premiere and he lets him
[12:35] past surrendering now this is huge
[12:38] drogon only trust John because John has
[12:41] Targaryen blood if you think about that
[12:43] makes John the only person in the world
[12:45] right now with striking distance access
[12:47] to Danny and the only one with the moral
[12:49] cause to stop her had John not been
[12:51] resurrected and not been a Targaryen no
[12:53] one would be able to stop Daenerys from
[12:55] plunging the world into darkness inside
[12:57] the red keep Daenerys his approach to
[12:58] the throne fulfills the imagery from her
[13:00] permission in the house of the undying
[13:01] in season two her damage to the walls in
[13:03] the roof allows snow to drift in just as
[13:06] it did in her vision and there's this
[13:07] close-up of her hand reaching to the
[13:09] throne except in that vision she pulled
[13:11] away but now she touches it
[13:12] that vision foretold Danny never fully
[13:14] gaining the Iron Throne instead becoming
[13:17] queen of the ashes and leaving that
[13:19] behind in an afterlife with Drogo
[13:21] similarly in the scene Daenerys will
[13:23] return east with drogon the dragon named
[13:26] after Drogo and her son will set in the
[13:28] east the moment Dany touches the throne
[13:31] this wave of catharsis hits earth
[13:33] much like the drunk trance caused by the
[13:35] Ring of Power when John appears behind
[13:36] her she turns to meet him but her eyes
[13:38] for a moment cling to the throne as if
[13:40] she can't break away from her precious
[13:42] Danny tells the story about learning a
[13:44] throne was made from a thousand swords
[13:46] and she laughed that as a girl she could
[13:47] only count to 20 but John angrily cuts
[13:49] her off because the same way a thousand
[13:51] melted swords from Aegon's conquest was
[13:53] hard for her to imagine a million melted
[13:56] bodies of her conquests don't look like
[13:57] anything to her either
[13:58] John begs her to reconsider but Danny
[14:00] just smiles and says it's not easy to
[14:04] see something that's never been visible
[14:06] Emilia Clarke plays this moment with
[14:08] such conviction speaking as an idealist
[14:10] asking for blind faith but her phrasing
[14:13] also hints at her insanity preceding
[14:16] hallucinations that do not exist echoing
[14:19] the convictions of her Mad King father
[14:21] John brings up others out there might
[14:23] also believe that they know what's good
[14:24] but Danny responds she's repeating the
[14:28] choice words that Tyrion spoke to John
[14:30] moments before about Sansa doesn't get
[14:33] to choose no but you do and the choice
[14:37] words that bran spoke to John in the
[14:39] godswood
[14:39] it's your choice it all goes back to the
[14:42] choice that aim
[14:43] foreshadow to John in season 1 John has
[14:46] already made this choice he chose duty
[14:49] to the Nights Watch duty to his family
[14:51] by telling them he's half Targaryen duty
[14:54] to Tyrion by confronting Daenerys right
[14:56] now John kisses Dany and he stabs her
[14:58] repeating Jaime Lannister's history as a
[15:01] Kingslayer and now John is the queen
[15:03] Slayer saving the realm from a mad
[15:06] Targaryen monarch one could interpret
[15:07] this murder as John fulfilling the
[15:09] prophecy of azor Ahai Dany in a sense is
[15:12] the sacrificial missa missa figure the
[15:14] flaming swords of the Iron Throne as
[15:16] Lightbringer and Daenerys is death and
[15:19] Dragons departure is an away John
[15:21] vanquishing darkness from this world
[15:23] Daenerys his final breaths are tragic
[15:25] john cradles her body with her head
[15:27] craned back still staring at the iron
[15:29] throne the way Gollum died cleaned to
[15:32] his precious Emilia Clarke said that in
[15:34] her final moment she included a hint of
[15:36] vulnerability the little girl that we
[15:37] met in season 1 drug on arrives sadly
[15:40] nuggie and Dany like Simba an undead
[15:42] Mufasa and rather than torching John he
[15:44] took horses the iron throne dragons are
[15:47] magical creatures so perhaps he has the
[15:49] cosmic wisdom to recognize the true
[15:51] source of evil among them the throne was
[15:53] forged by dragon fire from a gods dragon
[15:56] balerion and now the throne is undone by
[15:58] drogon with the swords melting down into
[16:01] indistinguishable lava just as the Ring
[16:03] of Power was this throne was the symbol
[16:06] that Aegon used to bind the Seven
[16:08] Kingdoms together causing them to war
[16:10] against each other over and over again
[16:12] throughout the ages in pursuit of this
[16:14] throne so its destruction signals the
[16:16] end of the game of Thrones drogon takes
[16:19] Dany and departs signaling also the end
[16:21] of magic in Westeros this episode marks
[16:24] this dramatic climax with a fade to
[16:25] black similar to the fades to black that
[16:28] Peter Jackson used in Return of the King
[16:29] after the rings destruction so this
[16:31] primary conflict has come to an end
[16:33] and everything that follows is a sort of
[16:35] epilogue that resets the game board so
[16:37] then a few weeks later Tyrion is brought
[16:38] to the King's Landing dragon pit to face
[16:40] the council returning them all to the
[16:41] same location in last season's finale
[16:43] the roll call includes same while Tarly
[16:45] is water-bottle another unnamed High
[16:47] Lord may be Howland Reed some are
[16:49] suggesting it could be theirs ed Murtagh
[16:51] Lee from the Riverlands Arya bran and
[16:53] Sansa Brienne Davos his water bottle
[16:56] and ginjury now lord of storms end then
[16:58] two more unnamed Lords may be from the
[17:00] reach or the rack yar a Greyjoy the new
[17:03] Prince of Dorne and then from the Vale
[17:04] sweet Robin grown up mama's milk done
[17:07] his body good Lord Royce and another
[17:09] unknown arya threatens Yara probably
[17:11] hates her for putting the letters Arry
[17:13] and a in the wrong order say another
[17:15] word about killing my brother and I'll
[17:17] cut your throat
[17:18] it's answer shuts down her uncle ed
[17:20] murrow stood he said these stark sisters
[17:24] are setting the table for the younger
[17:26] generation to take over and fix the
[17:27] problems of the previous generation
[17:28] Sansa reminds grey worm that her
[17:30] northern forces have surrounded King's
[17:32] Landing which could explain why only the
[17:34] north is granted independence in the
[17:35] scene places like the Iron Islands and
[17:37] Doran might not have the military might
[17:39] to put pressure on the crown like this
[17:41] Sam proposes that future leaders of
[17:42] Westeros be elected democratically to
[17:44] get the big belly laugh from these
[17:46] elitist Lords now it is a little odd
[17:48] that Yara laughs this off - since the
[17:51] Ironborn do traditionally select new
[17:52] leaders with a fairly democratic process
[17:54] called the king's moot although to be
[17:56] honest the Ironborn also consider
[17:57] themselves much stronger than a land
[17:58] dwellers and will probably look down on
[18:00] some ocean from flea bottom having any
[18:02] say and who rules it for them so instead
[18:03] the council adopts an oligarchical
[18:05] system of rule by the few with these
[18:08] elite representatives from across the
[18:09] kingdom selecting the ruler in the real
[18:11] world the ancient Greeks had an Oleg our
[18:13] key system that they eventually balanced
[18:15] with a more randomized democratic
[18:16] systems I don't know maybe we can look
[18:18] at this collapse of bloodline dynasties
[18:20] as a sort of baby step in the right
[18:22] direction or maybe considering that
[18:24] America is essentially a financial
[18:26] oligarchy these days step in a very dark
[18:28] timeline
[18:29] Tyrion makes a case for who he wants a
[18:31] new ruler to be there's nothing in the
[18:33] world more powerful than a good story
[18:34] and who has a better story than brand
[18:37] the broken now you might not agree that
[18:39] bran has the best story I mean Ari has
[18:42] been pretty fun to watch but Tyrion is
[18:43] right that bran is the best choice bran
[18:46] is impartial not prone to rage or
[18:48] violence pride or jealousy or lust Rand
[18:50] isn't one to anything other than maybe
[18:52] sunlight in a pot of fresh soil and the
[18:54] council selecting brand parallels the
[18:56] fellowship and a ring selecting Frodo
[18:58] Baggins to carry the burden of the Ring
[18:59] of Power
[19:00] the humble figure who least once power
[19:02] is the safest hands in which to rest
[19:04] that power and their best chance at
[19:06] lasting peace and by naming him bran the
[19:08] broke
[19:08] Tyrion isn't just being a jerk he's
[19:10] alluding to the wheel that Daenerys
[19:12] aimed to break and the breaking of the
[19:14] old system and yes the breaking up of
[19:16] the continent into six kingdoms in the
[19:18] North since in brans eyes that would
[19:20] lead to a more lasting peace between
[19:21] them and let's remember the North was
[19:23] historically independent only ever
[19:25] annexed by Aegon the conquerer but now
[19:27] that the Targaryen czar finished and the
[19:29] dragons are gone it makes sense that the
[19:30] north be restored to its longtime
[19:32] independence and with the first episode
[19:34] of the series ending with brands iconic
[19:35] fall the fall that broke him his rise
[19:38] here is a mere reflection of that fall
[19:40] an ascendancy to king bran the broken
[19:43] tyrion alludes to the words of
[19:44] three-eyed Raven he knew he'd never walk
[19:46] again so he learned to fly you'll never
[19:49] walk again
[19:50] but you will fly this ascent is scored
[19:54] with the main game of Thrones theme
[19:56] music but with each measure changing key
[19:58] to scale up and up and up all right
[20:09] brands responses of course a head

[20:45] but while brand saw all of this I don't
[20:48] think he necessarily wanted it all to
[20:50] happen the people of King's Landing
[20:51] Burnie and John killing Danny I mean
[20:53] maybe he's a little dirty bastard but I
[20:55] don't think it was really his plan just
[20:57] the predestined plan that bran was now
[21:00] following like a script remember Hodor
[21:02] had always said Hodor before bran was
[21:04] even born by working in - Hodor through
[21:06] time brand fulfill the destiny that was
[21:09] already written so similarly bran played
[21:11] the role that was already written for
[21:13] him a role that would one day nice for
[21:15] him lead him to a crown bran selects

[21:20] kind of punishment he's made many
[21:22] terrible mistakes he's going to spend

[21:30] the series what's the line
[21:32] the king and the hand wipes this hand I
[21:36] assume will like trim hedges and spray
[21:38] pesticide this finale also restores
[21:40] season 1 punishment with the solution
[21:42] for Jon Snow with searing ordering him
[21:43] to join the Nights Watch just like Ned
[21:45] Stark was originally going to do before

[22:32] protect the people of North and the
[22:33] other islands from being taken as slaves
[22:35] from the slavers of Essos the unsullied
[22:37] did begin the series of slaves it makes
[22:39] sense that that would be their future
[22:40] John leaves with the Nights Watch his
[22:42] hair back to its awesome shaggy look
[22:44] from his brotherhood days he bids
[22:46] farewell to Sansa Arya and bran from the
[22:48] port similar to Frodo saying goodbye to
[22:50] his three Hobbit friends when he sailed
[22:52] away with Bilbo in the elves at the end
[22:53] of Return of the King
[22:54] but really it's arias epilogue that's
[22:56] more in line with Frodo's she tells John
[22:58] that she is actually sailing away what's
[23:01] west of Westeros Arya is referencing her
[23:03] scene with lady crane back in season 6
[23:05] the first times she thought about a
[23:06] future beyond her conflicts as was his
[23:09] east in Westeros is West but was west of
[23:12] Westeros I don't know nobody does so
[23:15] they're all the maps to the edge of the
[23:17] world maybe I'd like to see that and by
[23:19] chasing this kind of dream R is actually
[23:21] parallel in the ancient figure Alyssa
[23:23] Farman from George RR Martin's fire and
[23:25] blood Alyssa was an explorer who sailed
[23:27] west of Westeros across the sunset sea
[23:30] on her ship called Sunchaser she
[23:32] actually found three islands which she
[23:35] named Aegon
[23:35] Rhaenys and Visenya and she continued
[23:38] sailing west but she was never seen
[23:39] again
[23:40] except her ship the Sun chaser was
[23:42] claimed to have been seen in the harbor

[23:46] perhaps confirming that the world of
[23:47] Westeros is round as Jorge Ramon says it
[23:50] is and that may be ELISA circumnavigated

[23:53] footsteps Brienne of Tarth now Lord

[23:57] through the book of brothers that's the
[23:58] document that tracks the life and
[23:59] accomplishments of all the Knights who

[24:02] pointed this out to Brienne in season
[24:03] four the duty of the Lord Commander to
[24:05] fill those pages there's still room left
[24:08] in mine Brianna's flip passed the pages

[24:31] heroic account of Jaime's defense
[24:33] against Danny throughout season seven
[24:35] and his fighting alongside them in the
[24:36] Battle of Winterfell and she finishes it
[24:38] with died protecting his queen so that
[24:41] instead of being remembered as the
[24:42] Kingslayer Jaime Lannister will be
[24:44] remembered as a knight who did his duty
[24:46] even if that Queen he was protecting was
[24:47] like toxic and like wrong for him sorry
[24:51] it's gonna take me a while to get over
[24:52] Jaime in the small council chamber
[24:53] Tyrion straightens the chairs
[24:55] I like the clutter that this room was an
[24:57] earlier Tyrion is cleaning up his
[24:59] mistakes remember when he was handed a

[25:57] brother Jaime the pages of Tyrion story
[25:59] remained blank perhaps this just means
[26:01] that Tyrians most significant
[26:02] contributions to history are yet to be
[26:04] written
[26:04] Brienne inserter Podrick enter with King
[26:07] brand but notices some vacant positions
[26:09] we appear to be missing a master of
[26:11] whisperers and a master of laws and a
[26:15] master of wool and a master of gardening
[26:17] how will I survive really the lack of
[26:19] any rush to fill those spots suggests
[26:21] that bran and Tyrion Earl is focused on
[26:23] war on prosecution on espionage then
[26:26] they are with rebuilding the
[26:27] infrastructure the economy and health of
[26:29] Westeros which is a really good sign
[26:31] bran leaves the management of the
[26:32] kingdom to them as he prepares to search
[26:34] for drogon perhaps hinting at a future
[26:37] for brand of war gain inside a dragon
[26:39] Davos and bran bicker assume the won't
[26:42] be normal coin any more you master of
[26:44] grammar now to Thomas's correction as a
[26:46] habit that he picked up from serving
[26:48] Stannis Baratheon and it's foolish
[26:50] fingernails to clean fewer less enemies
[26:52] for us
[26:54] whew what an Tyrion brings up his
[26:58] experience with the Casterly Rock sewers
[27:00] - Sam who says the autumn a sister has
[27:02] done some research on this subject yeah
[27:03] Sam is referring to his experience

[27:18] Tyrion has set up this same joke twice
[27:21] before once during his trial in the
[27:22] Eyrie another while trying to make some
[27:23] small talk with Masson day and grey worm
[27:26] really the best pitch for the punchline
[27:27] I could find online and I'm sorry I
[27:29] couldn't find the source of this I won't
[27:30] support a jackass and a honeycomb into a
[27:32] brothel the madam says what's with the
[27:33] honeycomb I say I wish for a house fit
[27:36] for a queen and she asks what about the

[28:04] in a close-up as they ready themselves

[28:07] Oreo with her dagger Sansa dressing and
[28:09] fine embroidery echoing her opening
[28:11] moments on the series to cheat
[28:12] impressive embroidery in Winterfell her
[28:14] dress here has a pattern with red
[28:16] weirwood tree leaves looks awesome these
[28:18] intercutting images reflect the opening
[28:20] of the season six finale which similarly
[28:22] showed characters dressing up for the
[28:23] day but it was set to the music of light
[28:25] of the seven this montage is scored by
[28:26] new music this track is titled the last
[28:29] of the Starks and it blends light motifs
[28:31] from the House Stark theme and the main
[28:33] game of Thrones title music
[28:34] [Music]
[28:44] so the way that light is 7 was Circe's
[28:46] great victory moment this montage is a
[28:48] victory for House Stark finally on top
[28:50] after their long suffering throughout
[28:52] the series the editing syncs up the
[28:54] movement of these three figures
[28:55] reminding us of the northern saying
[28:57] about moving and survival keep moving so
[29:01] these three northerners success at
[29:03] stayin moving has kept them alive and so
[29:05] they in this series in a March onward
[29:07] Game of Thrones ends really with the map
[29:09] expanding and all four compass headings
[29:11] beyond Westeros John heads north Arya
[29:14] heads west drogon and Dany head east in
[29:16] grey worm head south Sansa is crowned
[29:18] queen and turn off the first ruler of a
[29:21] North that's actually recognized by the
[29:23] Westeros crown in over a thousand years
[29:25] very much deserve Arya heads out on a
[29:27] ship that also bears the sigils of House
[29:29] Stark the direwolf on the sails and
[29:31] carved into the bow of the ship she
[29:33] sails west to channeling great explorers
[29:35] like Alyssa farmen and real world
[29:37] Circumnavigators like Ferdinand Magellan
[29:39] and Amelia Earhart her final image shows
[29:41] her gazing off at the horizon just like
[29:43] the last time she sailed away from
[29:45] Westeros east to Braavos the final shot
[29:47] of season 4 now she's heading west into
[29:49] the sunset like these start sisters John
[29:51] also reimburses his direwolf sigil a
[29:54] literal direwolf ghost giving the good
[29:56] boy a good boy Pat and he leads the wild
[29:58] lanes north of the wall in a final scene
[30:00] that echoes the very first cold open
[30:03] imagery of the pilot episode shot
[30:04] Prashad including the first shot of the
[30:06] series of the gate rising and the wide
[30:08] shot of the horses heading out north of
[30:09] the wall except now in this final scene
[30:11] there are some key differences the first
[30:13] episodes expedition was essentially a
[30:15] crime scene investigation hinting that a
[30:17] winter coming a winter that would take
[30:19] wildling families and children with it
[30:21] but now the wild lien families marched
[30:23] north with their children the icy threat
[30:25] has been defeated there's even a tiny
[30:27] green plant rising from the snow hey a
[30:29] friend for king branch it's a nod to the
[30:31] title for George RR Martin's final book
[30:33] of the series a dream of spring and an
[30:35] elemental counterpoint to the
[30:36] snow-covered death of the opening
[30:38] imagery of this episode Jon's future is
[30:40] a mystery will he stay with wildlings up
[30:42] north or is he just leading them on an
[30:44] expedition considering his status as a
[30:46] resurrected champion of the Lord of
[30:47] Light could he follow in the footsteps
[30:49] of the night's king from the books not
[30:51] the night king from the show but the
[30:53] legendary Lord Commander of the Nights
[30:54] Watch who is half alive half too
[30:57] fell in love with a woman with white
[30:58] skin and blue eyes it's fun to
[31:00] hypothesize about these mysteries but
[31:02] really if you look at this final imagery
[31:04] it's filled with peace with life hope a
[31:06] dream of spring John is one of many
[31:08] supernatural forces who are now leaving
[31:10] Westeros behind if you think about it
[31:12] Arya Stark is really a ninja assassin
[31:14] pulling off impossible feats but her
[31:16] power is too much for the continent to
[31:18] handle so she moves on Brogan the dragon
[31:21] flies off in the opposite direction from
[31:23] arya and john as the one resurrected
[31:25] person the person who seems to plot
[31:26] armor that defies all kinds of death
[31:28] he's leaving north these forces
[31:30] departing means peace and Westeros can
[31:32] finally last and with the evil
[31:35] represented by the Iron Throne finally
[31:37] destroyed the bloody Game of Thrones can
