[0:22] set them up some cool creative ideas on
[0:24] how to use them and if you couldn't tell

[0:28] probably could tell though cuz I got
[0:30] some flaws in my green screen not
[0:31] because I'm trying to teach you
[0:32] something special but because I've got a
[0:34] three-year-old and a brand new two week
[0:37] old daughter so if you feel like

[0:48] to save you from making some of the same
[0:50] mistakes I'm making in my green screen

[0:53] they are so you'll be a better green
[0:54] screener than myself today how about
[0:57] that but right now you can see I've got

[1:07] reason to use green screens are to put
[1:09] yourself in a cool virtual room or to
[1:11] put yourself in front of your gameplay
[1:12] without any kind of background around
[1:14] you and while yes you can do those
[1:17] things those are the most common
[1:18] applications of a green screen in
[1:19] streaming there is a lot more you can do
[1:22] I put some of those ideas together for
[1:24] you tonight so you can see them and I
[1:25] can show you how to make them things
[1:26] like this or even how to do this during
[1:28] your gameplay scene but still have a
[1:31] normal just chatting scene without a
[1:32] green screen behind you but that's
[1:34] enough of an intro I think I just enjoy
[1:35] talking to you a little bit too much
[1:37] let's get into

[1:44] this can I show you some really cool
[1:46] Tech at my other desk real quick these

[2:46] there are a handful of tricks to getting
[2:48] a perfect green screen and if you don't
[2:50] do them your green screen ends up
[2:52] looking like this it's just not very
[2:55] convincing you got green around the
[2:58] edges you got some weird noisy areas
[3:01] part of my chair is fuzzy and slightly
[3:04] transparent but all of the problems with
[3:06] my green screen right now can be solved
[3:07] with three different techniques your
[3:09] green screen should be flat your green
[3:12] screen should be well lit and your green
[3:14] screen should be a little bit further
[3:16] away from you let me turn on my light
[3:18] real
[3:20] quick oh do you see how much that
[3:23] already fixed this it's not perfect
[3:25] still got some fuzzies on this side but
[3:27] that's just cuz I don't have time to set
[3:29] up another light you can see at our main
[3:30] green screen setup we've got two
[3:33] gigantic lights evenly lighting our
[3:35] entire setup because when we green
[3:37] screen that background needs to be
[3:40] perfect you'll also get a lot of people
[3:41] who ask why would you spend
[3:43] $160 on a green screen like this one
[3:45] behind me when you can go to Walmart and
[3:47] spend $10 on a green sheet and yes you
[3:50] can do that and it will absolutely work
[3:52] on a budget I did that for years but the
[3:55] reason you go for a green screen like
[3:56] this is it's flat by design a Sheet's
[3:58] going to have some waves is going to get
[4:00] some Ripples and some shadows and the
[4:01] shadowy areas are going to be harder to
[4:03] Green Screen than the lit areas and the
[4:04] third issue of being too close to your
[4:06] green screen is the reason I've got
[4:08] green and kind of some fuzziness in my
[4:10] hair it's why the part of my chair is
[4:12] transparent it's because the green is
[4:14] bouncing off the green screen and
[4:16] landing on the back of me and on my
[4:18] chair which ends up making my chair look
[4:20] green and getting green screened out in
[4:22] the process if I wanted to spend a
[4:23] little more time on my setup I would
[4:25] adjust my camera angle so I have more
[4:27] room and I would push this about at
[4:29] three or four maybe 5T further behind me
[4:32] but now that you got some green screen
[4:33] principles out of the way let's toss
[4:34] some stuff into OBS and start this from
[4:37] scratch so here we are in OBS we have
[4:40] one source and it's this camera and
[4:42] that's it the first thing we need to do
[4:44] is remove this background so what we're
[4:46] going to do is we're going to click on
[4:47] the camera we're going to go to filters
[4:48] and I know what you're thinking oh let's
[4:50] look for green screen it's not going to
[4:51] be called Green Screen this is the green
[4:53] screen the effect we're looking for is
[4:55] actually called chroma key let's click
[4:58] on that
[5:00] and look at that the green is gone
[5:03] almost because we've got some areas that
[5:04] are a little bit brighter cuz they're
[5:05] closest to the light some areas that are
[5:07] a little bit darker furthest from the
[5:08] light we've got to adjust for this we've
[5:11] got to let OBS know exactly how much
[5:13] green to grab do we want a little bit
[5:15] more yellowy green probably for this
[5:17] spot here so if we turn up the
[5:19] similarity it's going to let OBS know
[5:21] let's get some colors a little bit
[5:23] further away from
[5:25] Green you can see as I drag that up I
[5:28] only need to drag it up 9 points and
[5:30] they're all already gone I think I did a
[5:31] better job this time than I did last
[5:33] time we still have a little bit of a
[5:34] green outline and again that's mostly
[5:36] because I'm too close to the green
[5:37] screen but let's see if we can fix that
[5:39] with a little bit of
[5:40] [Music]
[5:41] smoothness
[5:44] oh that's where we start to lose the
[5:46] chair I do like that though I don't have
[5:47] as much green on my face anymore kind of
[5:49] blurred some of my hair that's showing
[5:51] green through it and if we still feel
[5:54] like there's a little bit of glow of
[5:56] green on us we can reduce the color
[5:58] spill and that's going to kind of just
[6:00] suck green out of the image we don't
[6:02] want to do it too much cuz it's going to
[6:04] make us look like a black and white
[6:06] image see like
[6:08] that let's maybe give it a a tiny tiny
[6:13] bit all
[6:14] right I think that's pretty good I'm
[6:17] pretty happy with our chroma King over
[6:18] here it looks like what it's done is
[6:20] turned the green into black what it's
[6:21] actually done is turned the green
[6:22] transparent so if we put something
[6:24] behind it wait for it like let's grab
[6:26] this screenshot of gameplay of Apex
[6:28] Legends throwout behind me
[6:30] here well you can see we learned
[6:32] something here we may have turned up one
[6:34] of those settings a little too high we
[6:35] just couldn't tell when there was only a
[6:37] black background behind us so let's go
[6:39] in let's make some
[6:41] adjustments there we
[6:43] go bring the similarity down one at a
[6:47] time bring the smoothness down a bit
[6:50] that's a lot better the remaining issues
[6:52] are still because I'm too close to the
[6:54] green screen and so there's green on me
[6:56] from there we're going to hold alt on
[6:57] our keyboard we've done this before
[6:59] we're going to dragon from the side to
[7:00] crop ourselves crop out the rest of my
[7:03] background here you don't need to have
[7:04] your entire background green screened
[7:07] just enough to isolate yourself and one
[7:10] little trick of the trade by the way um
[7:12] if you want to Green Screen yourself I
[7:14] don't suggest having your desk in the
[7:16] shot that can that can cause some
[7:18] problems but they were unavoidable for
[7:21] me this time I guess I could do
[7:25] this there we go and that could be my
[7:29] shot look at that if that's all you were
[7:31] here for you've done it congratulations
[7:34] but we want to go a little bit further
[7:35] this is the classic green screen
[7:37] gameplay scene but if we wanted to do
[7:39] something like this I think you'd
[7:40] actually be surprised this isn't that
[7:43] much harder it's a couple more steps let
[7:45] me go into how I built this so this is
[7:47] an overlay of about four different
[7:48] layers I'm going to turn them all off
[7:49] for you right
[7:52] now I made these all in just a couple
[7:54] minutes with some illustration software
[7:55] on my computer and I'm going to move
[7:57] myself out of the way here real quick so
[7:59] you can see as I build this the first
[8:01] layer is this red shape with a little
[8:02] bit of texture that I put on there
[8:04] that's not super hard to do the next
[8:06] layer is this border that I put over
[8:08] here the next layer is an interesting
[8:11] one it looks like it's just this corner
[8:13] but it's also this entire bottom here
[8:16] that way when I place myself in here I'm
[8:19] going to be behind this layer that way
[8:22] I'm behind the bottom half but I'm in
[8:24] front of the top half up here then I
[8:27] added a little animated graphic that I
[8:29] thought would be need to show my most
[8:31] recent event most recent donation or bit
[8:33] so if someone subscribes this would
[8:34] change to a little star thing I'd
[8:36] probably use something like atom to
[8:37] automate that this would be the person
[8:38] who donated it just a simple little
[8:40] overlay thing but the kicker that I
[8:42] think really sells this is adding a drop
[8:45] shadow behind me that I think is the
[8:48] main detail that makes this look really
[8:50] cool now a drop shadow is not something
[8:51] you can normally do inside of OBS so I
[8:54] had to get a little bit creative here
[8:56] now there are a couple ways to do this
[8:57] but the way I did it is I added a
[8:59] separate sear scene down here with just
[9:01] the camera in it so I could have a
[9:03] second instance of my camera that I
[9:05] could put different effects on it of
[9:08] course I green screened out the
[9:09] background like I did before and then I
[9:11] brought it into here and I dragged it if
[9:14] you can
[9:15] see I dragged it behind myself so I've
[9:19] got two of myself going right now and
[9:22] then in the filters in here I added
[9:26] color correction to make it black I just
[9:28] dragged down the game and the brightness
[9:30] and then I added some composite blur and
[9:33] that is a third party plugin I'll link
[9:35] to it down below if you want to do this
[9:36] effect yourself you will need to install
[9:38] composite blur but by adding that little
[9:40] bit of a blur it makes it look like a
[9:42] shadow and then I just like I did before
[9:44] I just crop it in to make sure you don't
[9:47] see anything else that's in there crop
[9:49] out anything else so it's just the
[9:51] shadow of me and the microphone and
[9:54] everything else that's on the scene and
[9:55] now I got this nice drop shadow behind
[9:56] me I got some depth to it so it really
[9:58] looks like I'm popping off this
[10:00] background I got this 3d effect
[10:02] happening right now it's really cool I'd
[10:04] encourage you guys if you want to do
[10:05] this effect to make kind of your own
[10:07] overlay like this but I know that can
[10:08] take some time creativity so in the
[10:10] meantime if you want to use this one I
[10:12] will put the files to what I did
[10:15] here it'll be a Google Drive Link or
[10:18] something in the description below you
[10:19] can download these for yourself and you
[10:20] can use them because the background
[10:22] color is its own color you should
[10:25] theoretically just be able to oh there
[10:28] we go look at that
[10:30] just use the Hue shift and color
[10:31] correction on it make it whatever color
[10:33] you want I didn't even realize that
[10:35] until I was doing this right now oh I
[10:36] like that teal that was an accident it's
[10:39] not even teal it's like aquamarine but
[10:41] the last thing I need to show you is how
[10:42] to get a scene like this for your
[10:43] gameplay while still having a scene like
[10:46] this for your chatting scene that looks
[10:47] like it's not green screen or at least
[10:49] it would if I did it properly the answer
[10:50] if you haven't figured it out is
[10:51] actually pretty simple all you have to
[10:53] do is take some footage or a picture of
[10:55] your background footage is going to look
[10:57] a little bit more realistic and
[11:00] throw it behind your green screen make
[11:01] sure the camera angle is the exact same
[11:03] as your normal camera angle and big one
[11:07] is make sure the focus is also the same
[11:10] when I took this I sat in front of it
[11:12] where I normally sit I properly focused
[11:14] the camera and then I stepped out of the
[11:16] frame so you get the exact background
[11:18] blur that you'd be looking for sometimes
[11:19] if you put it on autofocus it'll just
[11:21] focus on the background so then you're
[11:22] in Focus but also the background's in
[11:24] focus and that's not what we want here
[11:26] in fact a little secret if you want you
[11:28] can also add extra background blur if
[11:30] you don't have a super fancy lens throw
[11:32] a little bit more blur on
[11:36] there I you got a real fancy looking
[11:38] lens but be careful to make sure your
[11:40] desk is not in your main shot there and
[11:43] also that you don't go overboard because
[11:45] then it looks fake but this not only
[11:46] allows you to have both green screen and
[11:48] non-green Screen effects this means that
[11:50] all you have to do is have your room
[11:51] clean for when you take the shot and
[11:53] then you can have a dirty room the rest
[11:55] of the time and it doesn't matter this
[11:56] also means you can do some really cool
[11:58] stuff like add maybe yourself walking in
[12:00] the room and and uh waving to your
[12:03] audience or anything else you might want
[12:06] in the background it just opens the door
[12:07] for some fun flexibility and maybe some
[12:10] creativity to happen here by the way my
[12:12] microphone's in a weird place but that's
[12:14] cuz if I move
[12:15] it it misalign with where it was when I
[12:18] took the background shot it is now
[12:21] almost 3:00 a.m. so that is just the it
[12:24] is what it is I don't even feel bad but
