[00:01] into this film with the lowest of expectations and I was incredibly certain I was going to hate it. Like I I thought this was a guaranteed stinker. Like I definitely thought I was going to despise it. Like nipple play. I know I
[00:16] sensitive nipples. It would be very uncomfortable for me. Great areas, but the nipples don't get near them. Otherwise, I'm going to squeal. And I thought for sure the new Insidious film would be just as surefire hatred from me
[00:30] as like nipple play would be. So with the new Insidious film, Out of the about. I don't know if it's being marketed at all or if they're just kind of embarrassed and ashamed because of the state the franchise is in that they
[00:43] don't even bother putting dollars behind it. But I did go see it just to take a peep. Sometimes you got to smell the poop just to remind yourself, yep, poop just to remind yourself, yep, that's [ __ ] And I personally think the
[00:55] genre. And I don't know if that's a controversial take or not, but there are one. I know some people like to argue that the second one's good as well. I that the second one's good as well. I don't really agree. But not only are the
[01:10] movies past the first one bad, but the last three have been horrible, especially Red Door, damn near unwatchable puke. Just complete garbage. So, out of the further, I thought stood no chance. But now that I've seen it, I
[01:26] no chance. But now that I've seen it, I actually didn't hate it. I only really didn't like it, which is a huge improvement. I know on the surface that sounds like a little silly, but that is infinitely better than I was expecting
[01:39] and a huge improvement over the last one. This one is only bad, not atrocious. Don't believe me? Well, just take a gander here. Let's just get into the spaghetti meatballs. We're going right in. Spoiler warning because you
[01:54] spoilers here. Let's get right into the things I liked. Most of the things I liked happened outside of The Further. In fact, there's that I liked even a little bit because outside of the Further, they actually
[02:07] put effort into it. I know. I I was as surprised as you are hearing that they actually put effort into an Insidious movie.
[02:19] Crazy, I know. So, we follow Gemma. She has been traumatized after witnessing her mother's suicide right in front of her. She was terrified of her mother, hated her mother for everything that she had put her through with like how scared
[02:33] she was, and even took her own life right in front of her. Like a legitimately traumatizing thing. And now fast forward 20 years, she is a mother fast forward 20 years, she is a mother and she is now experiencing traveling
[02:46] and that is putting a strain on her relationship with her daughter. So now her daughter is starting to be afraid of her. And not only is she a traveler that can go into the further, she actually has the ability to take things from the
[02:59] further back and as well as bring things to the further. They it's called a to the further. They it's called a courier in this one. And as she's like discovering this about herself, it's frightening her daughter the same way
[03:12] her mom did to her. And I actually thought that was a really good idea that thought that was a really good idea that they explored well enough because she is like losing touch with reality and it's frightening her daughter, putting her
[03:27] daughter doesn't understand it. the same thing that happened to Jimma when she was a kid with her mom going through the same thing cuz it turns out her mom had the same ability and was being tormented by the same entity that is now targeting
[03:40] by the same entity that is now targeting Jimma. Uh so I actually thought that was Jimma. Uh so I actually thought that was an interesting thing to do. I will say that this is an insidious film so don't expect it to be fully fleshed out but
[03:53] conceptually it's solid and the execution wasn't terrible. I will say there's only like one scene where Jimma does something that is actually like understandably frightening and like you know would really make a kid afraid of
[04:07] their parents where she just screams at her daughter get out of here get away like freaks out like why would you say that mom and then you know runs out of the room. Outside of that it was just the mom being weird and forgetting time
[04:20] and the daughter's like mom we ate like 20 minutes ago. like we we just ate and then you [ __ ] passed out at the table. So, it's more stuff like that which is weird but not exactly something where a kid's going to hate you for it.
[04:33] where a kid's going to hate you for it. Whereas Jim's mom that was a lot more intense and more understandable. Like to me the idea was there. The execution bad. Like I think they did a decent job there. Uh I also like that Jimma is a
[04:50] dentist. So, when she's doing her work there at the office, it does show you some pretty revolting stuff, especially when it comes to one of the creepy old Insidious film. It's got to have some generic [ __ ] So, there's three creepy
[05:05] old people that are working with the main bad entity that also travel and are tormenting her. One of them goes in for a checkup, and I actually thought the scene was pretty good. It's a really like unnerving sequence of her like
[05:18] old guy's mouth. And then he has like a down on her finger. Like it's it's a decent sequence. And there's another with a jump scare while she's working on teeth that I didn't see coming. It was
[05:32] That being said, all the other jump scares are the mo most formulaic you'll ever find in a horror film because I mean it's insidious. What do you [ __ ] expect at this point? But there were moments of genuinely trying to do
[05:45] something different, actually putting effort in, and I appreciated that. That's where my compliments kind of stop because a large chunk of this movie takes place in the further, and I I just think The Further is so lame. It is
[06:01] nights and going through a haunted house. So, every time she's like in the further or anytime anyone's traveling really, all you're seeing is like the dead. So like when she gets, you know, traveled when she's at her job, she's at
[06:18] a dentist place in the further and now there's these dead dentists and they're being weird and they're yucky. They got like sludge and slime on them and here that's that's the point I'm making. I
[06:32] scary. takes all of the tension out of it and it's just showing you just a bunch of bunch of goobers and they're all like the whole thing is like they're wacky, they're weird, they're doing stuff like this.
[06:45] That's that scary. It's just stupid. The further sucks. Like if this movie didn't goodness, it'd be significantly better. It's so much [ __ ] better. Uh Elise is of course in here. She's, you know, the superhuman presence here, the angel that
[07:00] superhuman presence here, the angel that is now, she swoops in and saves the day when uh Jimma is traveled and is taken by the the bad entity. Elise saves the day, tells her to find her in the material world and then leads her to a
[07:15] tattoo artist who like channels Elise and that's how they communicate, which and that's how they communicate, which is extremely convenient. Like, it's just very, very, very convenient. What? Whatever though, it's
[07:27] not that big a deal. And then they work together to try and defeat the entity by locking it behind the red door that the that's in her house. And she has a boyfriend who's a cop and she's like telling him all this stuff and he's
[07:41] like, "Oh man, that's terrible. Yikes. That's no good. You want me to like stay the night or like what's up with that?" And so he does. And then uh she does end up transporting one of the dead back and it's a zombie crawling around and the
[07:56] my goodness." Oh, so it turns out all of that was like super real. Wow, you alternate dimension with all of these dead people and transport them around. Huh. Weird. All right, I'm going to help you out. So then they form this team to
[08:10] uh they send Jimma in to lure out the dark entity. Meanwhile, uh her boyfriend and the tattoo artist, they they scheme together in the real world and she does like this demonstration with oranges
[08:25] it's not a complicated plan. It's basically Jimma goes in with Elise and they distract the bad guy. I think his name was Silus. I actually can't even remember his name. Sirius [ __ ] Sirius Black. I don't even remember what his
[08:39] name was. He sucked. The main villain sucked. basically just a cult leader who would travel and had like a bunch of acolytes and his whole thing was we can talk to the dead and I'll prove it. And sure enough he did. Yeah. He traveled
[08:53] around and he would like commune with the dead. He would kill his followers in them when they were dead. Then he ended up getting killed in like a shootout or being busted. And then he was trapped in the further and now he wants to come
[09:06] back. So he's using Gemma and by extension was originally using the mom to hold hands with him so that way when they woke up they take him with him. Take take him with them. And also her daughter can do it too. So he eventually
[09:21] kidnaps the daughter. And then he starts just [ __ ] blasting people from the uh the the further into the real world through using her daughter to go to to sleep. Wake up. Go to sleep. Wake up. So then he's got an entire house full of
[09:37] I fast forwarded a lot, but basically the the oranges, but compared to the other Insidious films, it it outshines them at the very
[09:50] movie I really didn't like. Anyway, though, the oranges, the plan was though, the oranges, the plan was distract the entity and then the two real people are going to go to the old people who have killed other old people
[10:03] at the house next door. So that way they can stalk Jimma and they have uh sedatives that they huff. They huff copium until they pass out and then they can travel and then they they that's how they like torment Jima and that's how
[10:17] they like protect the door and like work with the main bad guy. But here's the like one of them does like a little finger poke and just blast them like this giant air blast like they're the Avatar and then they never use it again.
[10:31] instead then they fight in the further by like crawling on top of them and going and that's it. They don't even throw punches or anything. They just crawl and just do that. That's how they fight. So
[10:43] big thing that there's they're never even a threat to begin with. But yeah, they're hooked up to their oxygen tanks and then they go and jack them out of the matrix and then they can, you know, catch the main bad guy. But then
[10:57] everything goes wrong. That's when he kidnaps the girl and brings all of his dead friends into the real world in order to tear it to shreds. But then Gemma uh grabs the doororknob of the house as she's about to be executed by
[11:11] the main bad guy. She grabs the doororknob of the house and then falls asleep. So then she transports everyone in the house and the house itself to the in the house and the house itself to the further trapping them there.
[11:23] And then get this. All of the acolytes, the followers of that main bad guy, upon world where they just were very excited, they went from there to the further. And
[11:35] instead of like killing Jimma, instead they get really mad at the main bad guy, chase him down and cannibalize him and leave Jimma totally untouched. How [ __ ] convenient. I hate the ending of this movie. I hate it. It's so
[11:48] idea how they wanted to pull this off. What sense does that make? Cuz they were own just minutes before. Like as they were in the real world, they were like tormenting her, trying to like cleave her with a machete or not a machete,
[12:02] just cleave her. Uh, one of them even had a shotgun like right on her, really guy's like, "No, no, no. Bring her to me. I want to do it." And then when she's the one that transports them all back, they just instantly forgive her
[12:15] did actually bring them back and everything. For some reason, they kill him, not her. And then she just like wakes up and then she's out of there. they have targeted her? They knew it was her that did it, but instead they got
[12:31] really mad at the guy. I mean, okay, I guess it's [ __ ] silly, man. Uh, yeah. fact, there's not like a whole lot to like about it, which is why I said I I don't like it, but I do not hate it as much as Red Door or Insidious 4, the one
[12:47] with the the jailer or whatever. I don't hate it as much as those two because try. Another scene that I thought they did a good job with a whole sequence really is she's going into a pillow fort because she thinks that her daughter's
[13:00] playing in there, so she's going to like surprise her. Boo. And then when doing that, she ends up getting trapped in the pillow fort into a giant labyrinth. this being chased by the old people in there.
[13:12] They're just more of like a nuisance. And again, they're just crawling around. But the actual claustrophobia and the scenes of her just like endlessly exploring it actually were pretty tense. And then when she like squeezes between
[13:25] the cushions, again, pretty tense. So like there are moments where they put genuine effort into doing something that isn't just showing you old people going when it was all right. I would have liked to see more of that than in just
[13:40] going to the further and just showing you old people being weird. It's just I don't know, man. I don't I I don't have a lot of faith in the Insidious franchise to deliver quality. So, I went into this really expecting it to be
[13:53] super shitty and it's only shitty, not super. So, I mean, that is upward trajectory. That is improvement. So, uh yeah. Anyway, that's really about it. yeah. Anyway, that's really about it. See you.
