## Transcript

if I'm honest I have a history of
working myself a bit too hard and ending
up burnt out and if you've ever
experienced it especially if you are a
content creator or entrepreneur then
you'll know just how detrimental burnout
is to your life your business and just
your general well-being after hitting
rock bottom with my mental health in the
summer of 2021 I knew that I had to put
some strategies and routines in place to
help me prioritize my mental health over
just my productivity which I had been
doing and by the way today's video is
sponsored by Riverside which is my
favorite way to record podcasts online
but we'll talk more about them later and
lately I've been feeling myself creeping
towards that feeling of burnout again I
think it's a bit of a mid-year thing
like I feel like I've been working so
hard for the first half of 2023 and now
we've kind of Hit the summer and it
feels like it's the time to relax and
I'm still feeling that guilt for like
not continuing to hustle and push myself
further so when I start to feel like
that I know it's time to really lean
into these anti-burn out routines and
prioritize stuff outside of work and I
thought you might be going through the
same thing so today I want to take you
through my day of strategies habits
routines that I use to try to defocus
from work to make sure I'm taking care
of myself so that I don't get burnt out
again and one of the best things you can
do to prevent burnout is to Outsource
the tasks that overwhelm you the most so
for you if that's editing your videos
creating your Instagram content or
coming up with your social strategy my
team at creatorly media would love to
help you out but I'm going to talk more
about that later on in the video for now
let's rewind back to the morning and
start off this day of an anti-burn out
routine together
[Music]
foreign
thing that I struggle with which I know
contributes to my burnout sometimes is
that I always sort of feel like I'm late
or that I need to rush in the past a lot
but even now sometimes if I'm honest
with myself I feel really anxious if I
wasn't starting work exactly at 9am or
if I wasn't waking up at the time that I
had planned to wake up and eventually I
realized this was just adding
unnecessary stress into my life because
I don't really have a specific time I
need to start my day at so especially
when I start feeling burnout coming on I
really try to focus on having slow
mornings because when I rush I end up
skipping the parts of my morning routine
that really help me feel more balanced
and those things include taking time to
make a breakfast that makes me happy
like I know it wouldn't be necessary to
arrange my smoothie bowls in such a
picturesque way but like it brings me
joy and lately I've been making time to
get outside and go for like a two and a
half kilometer walk I hope someday
eventually it becomes a run but for now
it's just a walk so even though my
morning routine is really not that
complex or exciting it's really
important to me to just like take my
time to do that rather than just jumping
directly into work because I find my
mood for the whole day suffers if I do
that so I try to read a book while I eat
my breakfast I listen to my like Daily
News podcast while I
I listen to my favorite Daily News
podcast while I go for my walk and I
take time to pick out an outfit that I
feel comfortable and confident in and I
feel like all those steps make a huge
difference in just setting me up to have
a happier day and I think that's the
thing about burnout prevention it's
really all about thinking about how you
can optimize your happiness because so
many of us are so conditioned to just
try to optimize our productivity but
when you're dealing with burnout you
need to prioritize your mental health
and just finding joy in the little
things I mean the secret of that all is
that when you are happier and more
balanced you'll be more productive but I
feel like you can't start from thinking
about it from a productivity perspective
or else
you'll probably just get yourself
further into burnout
let's go start the work day
[Music]
today is Friday and if you've watched my
Vlogs before then you'll know Friday is
a filming day hence we're filming but in
addition to that I've got some general
admin stuff to do I need to send a few
emails and I also want to do my weekly
kind of file organization routine I
talked about that up in this video but
basically I'm going to go through the
photos I took on my phone this week
delete anything off my phone I don't
need I'm going to clear off my desktop
and downloads and I also have my b-roll
to organize that I filmed in the last
couple weeks that I want to make sure I
have access to in future videos but I'm
also just feeling like this week I've
kind of let my desk area get very
cluttered so after I send some emails
I'm gonna do a little bit of tidying up
I think another big mindset shift for me
around the whole productivity and
burnout thing has been realizing that
like it's okay for things to feel easy I
think I've always kind of been attached
to my work ethic in a way or thinking
that like working hard is what's really
important in life or it makes you like a
more valuable person or that's how
you're going to be successful and don't
get me wrong I'm definitely grateful for
the hard work I've done in the past and
I do think that things like say growing
a YouTube channel growing a business it
does take hard work but that doesn't
mean that like working hard is the
epitome of you know what you're supposed
to be doing in life and so I've been
trying to lean a little bit more into
ease and telling myself like I don't
always have to be in a rush I don't
always have to be grinding it's okay to
take things slow and to make things feel
easier but I know it can be really hard
to embrace that when you're coming from
a perspective of feeling like hard work
is good laziness is bad so then anything
that kind of like feels adjacent to
laziness you like start to feel guilty
and I just think that's a really like
toxic connection that we need to break
down because you can't just Hustle Hard
forever you need to take breaks you need
things to feel easy sometimes and also I
think it's a matter of like allowing
yourself to feel like you deserve for
things to be easy that things don't
always have to be hard for you I think
that can be really difficult to embrace
this poor plant looks so sad I mean I
think it's a stretch to call this a
plant anymore but you know what I feel
like this is a good metaphor for what
can happen to you if you work yourself
too hard and you don't make sure that
you get the sunshine and water and rest
that you need okay let this be a warning
to all of us but uh actually though I
think I'm going to take this pot and
plant an actual living plant in there
this weekend so
I let it sit here way too long
real quick I want to say thank you to
the sponsor of today's video Riverside
Riverside is my favorite way to record
podcast interviews online their platform
makes it so easy because all you need to
do is send a link to your guest and they
can enter the studio through their web
browser they don't need to download any
additional software earlier this week I
recorded an interview from my podcast
Creator Club using Riverside I was
interviewing my friend Molly and it was
just so seamless and the thing is you
get full quality recordings as if you
were in person so you get the full HD
video the crisp sounding audio and it's
super easy to use plus Riverside has
recently released some really cool
features one of those is Magic Clips
which uses AI to choose the most
interesting parts of your podcast and
turn it into social clips that you can
share on Instagram or Tick Tock and the
AI transcription feature makes it so
easy to grab the transcription from your
interview from your podcast episode and
turn it into a blog post for example

this maybe sounds totally dorky but one
of my favorite types of tasks to do is
something that I can just kind of like
mindlessly work through while I listen
to a podcast because so much of what I
do is not like that editing a video it
you know needs your full attention
writing scripts like strategizing stuff
even when I do like my finances and my
bookkeeping like I feel like I really
need to pay attention to that so when I
have something that I can just like kick
back and listen to a podcast and drag
files around I I love that that is a
great break
[Music]
same Berto is actually taking breaks
throughout the day including one for
lunch and this week I have not been so
good about that I've been like eating
and working but today I'm going to
actually stop for the next
at least half an hour
and just eat my lunch
and probably watch some educational
YouTube videos for entertainment earlier
this week I meal prepped some pasta
salad and it is the easiest lunch ever
foreign
[Applause]
[Music]
it's time to get back into work but I
actually don't have a huge to-do list
for the rest of the day I kind of got my
admin work done this morning obviously
I'm continuously filming this video but
otherwise I was going to maybe do a
little bit of work on my Vlog if you
didn't know I have a travel Vlog channel
it's called Katie and Dan in a van
originally I wanted to post this video
like weeks ago but I decided to just
like let myself take some time with it
and get it done when I was feeling
inspired and had time to work on it and
I think that's another big lesson that
I'm trying to learn lately is that it's
okay to slow things down it's okay to
scale back on what you're creating every
week especially going into the summer I
just felt like you know a lot of people
are taking more time off there's the
long weekends that are happening and it
just felt like I wanted to do less and I
kind of realized that I was putting this
pressure on myself
to create all of this stuff that was
mostly optional especially with my short
form content like my reels I have brand
deals on my reels like every so often
but it's not like a super consistent
part of my content calendar but I was
posting three reels per week anyway just
because that's what I sort of had been
doing as part of my growth strategy
obviously it was working so I wanted to
continue and I think that there is a
season for that there's like a time and
a place to really like push yourself to
get more content out to see the results
that you want but I was just feeling so
like overwhelmed with keeping up with
all the content I was making so I
decided to scale back to just making one
reel per week at least for now probably
for the summer I think in September I'll
probably ramp back up to doing more but
I think the tough thing about this is I
know a lot of people don't talk about
this like when you start to see results
with the social media content you're
posting and you see the view counts go
up and you see your follower count
increasing it can be really hard to stop
doing what you're doing like you almost
become addicted in a way to seeing those
results we're like well I have to keep
posting more so that you know every time
I refresh my Instagram profile I have
more followers but if you really sit
back and think about it it's like well
why do I want more followers like what
benefit am I actually gaining from that
other than just the dopamine hit of
seeing higher numbers and yeah in the
long term you know you can get more
brand deals you can sell you know your
product better you can scale your
business further with a larger audience
that's definitely true but in the short
term day-to-day like what's the need for
virality I think just focusing on the
slow and steady build is a much
healthier mindset and so especially in
this time where I'm like feeling myself
inching towards burnout again I'm like
you know what I just need to really
intentionally scale things back
understand that I'm not going to see the
growth that I had been seeing but that's
okay we don't necessarily need that
there's times where you want to work
really hard to see a lot of growth and
then there's some times where you just
need to work a little less and take it
easier so because I have scaled back my
work over the last couple of weeks I now
do have a little bit of time on a Friday
afternoon to work on my passion project
more or less which is my Vlog Channel
[Music]
if you have ever edited a travel Vlog
before then you will know that this
takes way longer than you think it would
I've probably already spent an hour
going through just selecting the clips
that are going to be used in the final
edit and Dan probably spent about like
an hour and a half or two hours doing
the same thing and I'm just now getting
through day three of our Yellowstone
footage and we have
four days to include so I'm getting
through it but that's just literally
choosing what I call the selects so this
is what the timeline looks like right
now like obviously it's not properly
edited at all I just have it categorized
into different like segments and then
the footage that we're going to use is
underneath those little sections so this
is just the initial step of starting to
edit a travel Vlog once I have all of
the actual Clips like the final pieces
of clips that are usable sorted kind of
in chronological order or in the order
of the scenes that I'm going to include
then it's gonna be actually time to
start putting it together in terms of
like the background music and like you
know editing
just like actually editing it I feel
like I'm gonna need a coffee to get
through this because it's so much
there's just so much footage here
well I finished going through the rough
draft and actually picking out the
selects and now the hard work begins of
actually editing this Vlog and I am in
dire need of coffee if I'm gonna stay
awake to do that so I'm gonna head over
to my favorite local coffee shop and
work for the rest of the afternoon oh
and I'm bringing a friend along if you
were wondering before this is the Dan
from Katie and Dan in a van that's uh
that's how we know each other we have a
YouTube channel yes
[Music]
ah
see when I bring him along with me then
I get help with my b-roll
[Music]
you all need to know that I was working
on editing that Yellowstone Vlog for
about an hour and I have completed about
two and a half minutes of it thankfully
it does get faster once you get past the
intro because I always make the intro so
action-packed and like use a ton of
b-roll from throughout the Vlog so now
it should just be another maybe four to
five hours of work hopefully but I have
decided to close that up for the day
because it's time for my final anti-burn
habit that I wanted to share with you
and that is really taking time to focus
on your hobbies I know for me a source
of burnout is often putting too much
weight or value on my performance in
terms of work or my career or my
business and I find it's healthy to like
diversify your sort of Personality
Investments so instead of just putting
all of your value in your work maybe
also put it in some different hobbies
and for me lately that has been learning
Spanish so I've been trying to do this
thing every day that I call Spanish hour
which is roughly an hour of kind of
independent study and I have this
checklist that I go through that kind of
guides some techniques that I'm using to
try to just like pick up more vocabulary
definitely at some point I'm gonna have
to like shift what this looks like but
at the stage that I'm at it works well
so I spend 15 minutes reading a literal
children's book and I write down all the
vocabulary that's unfamiliar to me and I
look it up I add it to my spreadsheet
full of my Spanish vocabulary my goal is
to eventually have this hit a thousand
words but I'm just at about 300 right
now and I use this spreadsheet to
populate these Quizlet cue cards so then
I'll spend another 15 minutes going
through the cue cards and quizzing
myself and then after that I have a
variety of other kind of like learning
activities whether it's doing a
worksheet or I'm taking Damon
Dominique's course as well so that's
what I like to do to finish off my work
days because it's a good transition away
from my regular work and into something
that I'm doing just for me and I highly
recommend especially if you work for
yourself if you're a Creator or an
entrepreneur to have something like this
so that you can have another area of
your life where you can kind of measure
your progress and get better at
something without it being tied to like
how much money you're making basically I
honestly think the biggest thing that
you can do to prevent burnout is to
genuinely remind yourself that you are
worth taking care of it can be so easy
to prioritize everything else in your
life and if you're anything like me then
you'll tell yourself it's okay I'm tough
I can handle it I'll just keep working
but trust me you can only do that for so
long it's so important that you stop and
take breaks and rest and take care of
yourself so I hope this Vlog today
inspired you to take some time time for
yourself to build your own anti-burn out
routines so that you have a daily
approach to your life that's not just
about productivity and work but also
about taking good care of yourself it's
not just about getting as much done as
possible or making as much money as
possible or getting as many new
followers as possible is about making
sure that you are a happy and fulfilled
individual because at the end of the day
that is truly all we have and if you
want to do that by finding help with
your social media content then I did
just want to let you know that my
creative agency creatorly media is
