[0:00] - Today I'm gonna find out, [0:01] is tech actually cheaper at Costco? [0:03] I mean, sure it's a great place [0:04] to get yourself a 700-count of toilet paper. [0:07] But what about actual, real tech? [0:09] Wait, do I need air compression boots? [0:12] Guess who? It's me. [0:13] What's interesting about these is these are the XM5s, [0:16] but it's an SA version, [0:18] which is apparently a Costco exclusive version. [0:20] Why is the Costco version different and cheaper? [0:23] So one of the things I'm learning here is [0:24] that there is a little display box [0:26] that I've never noticed before. [0:28] It's not a clearance per se. [0:31] These items are the last ones left. [0:33] For a lot of, like, the core items, [0:34] the prices actually do seem to be pretty competitive, [0:36] but the selection small, [0:37] at least with what you've got in the store. [0:39] But while I'm sure we'll find a lot of stuff online, [0:41] something like this seems like [0:43] straight up just a good deal period. [0:45] I think we need to liberate this from the bad box. [0:49] We'll take it with us. [0:50] (screen whooshing) One of the first things [0:51] that drew my attention in the store was this. [0:54] So this is a pair of Sony 1000XM5s, [0:57] a high-quality pair of headphones. [0:59] I think when these first launched, [1:01] maybe like two or three years ago, [1:02] they were like 400 bucks. [1:04] - [Ken] Something like that. [1:05] - When I saw these for $230 at Costco, [1:09] admittedly you know they're last generation, [1:11] but it's not like headphones, [1:12] you know, crumble into dust. [1:14] But we had a question. [1:16] Take a close look here. [1:17] It's 1000XM5SA, [1:19] which is I believe, like, Special Edition or something. [1:22] (buzzer ringing) - That's not how [1:23] you spell "edition." (crickets chirping) [1:24] That's Special Addition. - It's the Special Addition. [1:26] I've heard rumors that Costco has a lot of items [1:29] that are suspiciously cheap, [1:31] because some Costco items are unique to Costco. [1:34] Maybe the Costco edition is maybe different in some ways. [1:38] - Well, I think the only way [1:39] you could have convinced me this was something [1:40] that was exclusively at Costco, [1:42] if this came in a five pack. [1:44] (Alex laughing) [1:45] - I know, Ken, you dailied these [1:46] for a long time, right? - Yeah. [1:47] Until the M6 came out earlier this year [1:50] or late last year. [1:51] - [Austin] So we've got the 1000XM5s. [1:54] Oh, well, that's immediately a difference. [1:55] - What? - It's in, like, a soft case. [1:57] Wait, no, this is an upgrade. [1:58] For context, [1:59] this is a pair of normal Sony 1000XM5s. [2:01] I always thought it was kinda, like, big, and bulky, [2:03] and kind of dumb. [2:04] It's like the sort of the origami-looking case. [2:06] We do have a standard pair of M5s. [2:09] So if I put them side by side [2:10] and I get them mixed up, [2:11] I mean they look- [2:12] - [Ken] They are basically the same though. [2:13] - Pretty close. [2:15] They feel like the same weight. [2:16] Alex, do you have any idea of what the differences are? [2:20] - [Alex] I reached out to Sony [2:21] and they specifically said that there is [2:22] basically no difference except that carrying case. [2:25] The unofficially answer is people online have basically [2:30] speculated that all the Costco things are, [2:32] like, B-line products. [2:34] They might have higher failure rates, [2:36] because Costco is willing to eat that cost. [2:38] - But the thing is, [2:39] Costco typically has either a good warranty [2:41] or obviously they have, like, good return support. [2:43] Okay, so I've paired them to my phone. [2:45] I've got LDAC turned on, which is the higher quality audio. [2:49] Ambient sound is good, [2:50] but seems a little bit sort of dated [2:52] compared to the M6s or more modern headphones. [2:55] Let me turn on the noise canceling. [2:56] - Can you hear? (Ken clapping) [2:58] - I can't hear Matt at all. [3:00] (Alex laughing) - Nothing at all? [3:02] Wait. [3:03] - The M6s are a very, very substantial step up [3:07] over the noise cancellation of these guys. [3:09] But here's the thing, these are already good. [3:11] Those are just great. [3:12] (upbeat music) [3:17] I'm taking 'em off. (phone chiming) [3:18] They automatically pause. - That was Daft Punk. [3:20] - Surprising exactly no one, these are badass headphones. [3:23] I know you've listened to 'em 1,000,000 times before. [3:25] Like, there's nothing wrong with these headphones. [3:27] - Yeah, these things are great. [3:28] I think for $250, [3:31] these are- $230. [3:31] - [Matt] Even if these were refurbished. [3:34] - Yeah? - I wouldn't be mad [3:34] at that price. - Well, but here's [3:35] the thing though. [3:36] What would we pay for M5s elsewhere? [3:40] - [Alex] So right now is kind of a weird time, [3:41] because it's right near the Memorial Day weekend. [3:44] Everywhere else they're going for $250, [3:46] and that is the lowest price. [3:48] - This has gotta be a point for Costco, right? [3:51] - Yeah. - Yeah [3:51] - I think so. - Yeah. [3:52] - A huge thinking to the sponsor of this video, Wispr. [3:55] Have you ever had an idea that was so exciting [3:57] that you just had to get it down right that second [3:59] or maybe you'll just straight up forget about it [4:01] in a couple of seconds if you don't, like me? [4:03] Either way, Wispr Flow is the change you need. [4:05] This is hands-down the best [4:06] voice to text feature I've ever used. [4:08] Where normal speech text has issues is [4:10] when it comes to more complicated sentences. [4:13] So while I'm playing "Baldur's Gate 3," [4:14] I really wanna talk about how I wanna side with the Emperor. [4:18] Actually no Orpheus. [4:18] No actually no no. [4:19] The Emperor for sure, yeah. [4:21] "Ball just gate three." [4:23] But if I use Wispr Flow, [4:25] not only do they get everything spelled correctly, [4:27] but it even has the punctuation there. [4:29] When it comes to serious stuff, [4:30] you wanna make as few mistakes as possible. [4:32] I can't tell you how often I try [4:34] to type notes from a meeting [4:35] when I should just be paying attention instead. [4:37] - [Alex] All right, team. [4:38] We need to ideate, iterate, [4:40] and most importantly, synchronize. [4:42] Gary, it's Monday. [4:43] - I give up. [4:44] I give up. [4:45] So let's compare my notes to Wispr. [4:48] It even has a link for Monday at 8:00 AM. [4:50] Wispr Flow changes all of that. [4:52] It catches everything you say cleanly, [4:54] even stuff that I normally wouldn't be able to type down. [4:56] I mean, it even catches whispers. [4:58] So if you want the best notes [4:59] or just want more natural sounding messages, [5:01] Wispr Flow is perfect for you. [5:03] Just use our code for one month [5:04] of Wispr Flow Pro for free. [5:06] And thanks again to Wispr [5:07] for making our lives just a little bit clearer. [5:09] (screen whooshing) There was an item [5:11] when we were perusing the shelves at Costco [5:14] that really drew my eye. [5:16] This- (sound dropping) [5:18] (upbeat music) - What? [5:19] - Yeah, what's up? (upbeat music continues) [5:21] - Why is the box empty? [5:22] Show the audience. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay. [5:23] - Show the audience. - So this is [5:24] a giant game of "Guess Who?" [5:27] Did you tamper with this, Alex? [5:28] Did you already crack it open? [5:30] - [Alex] We may have made some creative modifications. [5:33] - Why are our faces on there? - What the hell, man? [5:35] What? [5:36] So we've got Baby Austin, Creepy Matt. [5:40] Oh, God. (Alex laughing) [5:41] Some horrible travesty of [5:42] Evsini, and Maustin. (Alex laughing) [5:45] Did we give any thought to how we're shooting this? [5:46] - No. - Probably not. [5:47] Probably not. - Whoa, not like that. [5:49] (screen beeping) [5:51] - So let's do this thing. [5:52] The rules are pretty simple. [5:53] We each get to pick a YouTuber [5:55] and lock it into whoever we want, [5:57] and then the other person has to guess. [5:58] - [Matt] You get one guess at a time. [6:00] It has to be "yes" or "no." [6:01] - Yeah, you close up photos of YouTubers [6:03] until we finally have the correct answer. [6:05] - Do I hate them? [6:06] (people laughing) [6:08] (plastic flipping) (Austin laughing) [6:10] Are they blonde? [6:13] - No. [6:15] No, no. I can't say that. [6:16] Have you met your YouTuber in person? [6:20] - Yes. [6:21] I'll actually tell you [6:22] that there's only two people on here [6:23] that I have not met in person. [6:24] - Uh-oh. [6:25] Are they, in these photos- - Yes. [6:27] - [Matt] Wearing glasses? [6:28] - Yes, they're wearing glasses. [6:29] - Okay. - "Do they have two eyes?" [6:31] - Well, you can also ask the same question. [6:33] (upbeat music) - No, I can't ask that. [6:35] Oh, shoot. - No, say it. [6:36] - [Alex] Just say it. [6:37] - [Austin] Is your YouTuber Canadian? [6:38] - [Ken] That was offensive? [6:39] - No. - Yeah. [6:40] - Has your YouTuber tried to hire me? [6:42] (Alex gasping) - [Alex] Ooh! [6:45] - Yes. [6:46] How many YouTubers have asked to try to hire you? [6:48] It can't be that many. [6:49] - There is some. [6:51] - Oh, no, there's way more [6:52] than I thought. (Matt laughing) [6:52] Nine, 10, 11- - Yeah, you barely [6:54] - So I have 13 left. - You barely narrowed it down. [6:56] You barely narrowed it down. - I have two. [6:57] Is your YouTuber UrAvgConsumer? [6:59] (bell chiming) (people cheering) [7:02] - Well done, my friend. Well done. [7:03] - The only other one I had over here, [7:05] if you wanna take a look, [7:06] is Maustin. [7:07] (people laughing) [7:09] I almost went to go work for Jud before I came here [7:12] and I should have done that. [7:14] (people laughing) [7:15] All right, so I guess I fight you now. [7:17] - Okay, let's do it. - All right. [7:18] - I actually think Austin should pick for both of us. [7:21] - Okay. - Oh! [7:22] Yeah! [7:23] Okay. Okay. [7:24] So I'm locking in here. [7:25] - Yeah. - Okay. [7:26] - Okay. - Okay. [7:27] Good luck, boys. [7:28] - [Alex] The rule book states [7:29] whoever's youngest goes first. (laughs) [7:31] - Okay. (Alex laughing) [7:33] Is your YouTuber a guy? [7:36] - Yes. Are they showing teeth in the photo? [7:39] - [Austin] Now, hold on. [7:39] Some of these are, like, questionable. [7:41] Like, are those teeth? [7:43] - [Ken] Yes, they are. [7:44] Okay. [7:45] - [Alex] See? Matt knows what he's doing. [7:46] (plastic flipping) [7:47] - [Ken] Who the (censored) are you? [7:48] (people laughing) [7:50] - Is this a male YouTuber? [7:52] - No. - That's a little bit sad [7:54] for the industry, [7:54] but- (Austin laughing) [7:56] But very easy for Matt. (laughs) [7:58] Dang! (Austin laughing) [7:59] - Sorry, that was just- [8:01] Sorry. (people laughing) [8:02] In a dream once. [8:03] (people laughing) [8:06] Are they holding tech in their photo? [8:09] - Ooh. - No. [8:10] - Wow. - Basically you have [8:11] to just wild guess right now. [8:12] - Yeah- - Otherwise. [8:13] - Okay. (people laughing) [8:16] (Matt sucking) [8:17] (Matt blowing) [8:19] Is it you? [8:24] Is it? [8:25] - No. [8:26] (people laughing) [8:27] - [Alex] Damn, that was dramatic as hell. [8:28] - Is it Sara Dietschy? [8:29] - It is Sara Dietschy. - Rhymes with peachy. [8:30] - Yay! - It is Sara Dietschy. [8:32] - Who was it? - Wow. [8:33] - Carter. - Oh, God, [8:35] that was gonna be my second choice. [8:35] (people laughing) - Here's the thing. [8:38] What does this have to do with Costco? [8:40] I don't (duck quacking) know, [8:40] except that they have some hilarious, fun games. [8:43] - But how much did we pay for all of this, [8:46] for all this enjoyment? [8:47] - [Alex] We paid $90 for this thing. [8:49] - This is $90? - It is $90. [8:51] - What the hell? Wait, no. [8:52] Was it? [8:53] No? What? [8:54] No, no. It was. [8:56] Ooh, I thought this thing was $30 bucks [8:58] when I put in the cart. [8:59] All I know is you should subscribe to the This Is channel, [9:02] 'cause we're 100% doing a full video with this thing. [9:04] (screen whooshing) This next item might be [9:07] the best outright deal of the video. [9:09] Ken. [9:10] Oh, wait, it says it. [9:11] Oh, it's right here. (Ken laughing) [9:13] Ken, how much would you pay [9:15] for a brand new MacBook Air? [9:18] M4. [9:19] - [Ken] M4. - Mm-hmm. [9:20] Something reasonable. - Okay, okay. [9:21] Oh, 15 inch. - A big boy. [9:22] Yeah, don't forget. [9:23] - About a grand. [9:25] - [Austin] So for context, base models have 16 GB of RAM, [9:29] 256 GB storage. - Okay. [9:30] - So $1,300? [9:31] - $1,300. - So MSRP. [9:33] - [Alex] So if we were to buy this somewhere else, [9:35] let's say like a Best Buy, or Amazon, or something, [9:39] it is retailing for about $1,100. [9:43] - Ooh. Okay. [9:43] Let me present to you, my friends, the price tag. [9:46] - Oh. - Oh! [9:47] - [Austin] $899.97. [9:49] Liberated from the bad box in the store. [9:52] - [Alex] Hell yeah! [9:54] - So... [9:55] - [Alex] It fell off already. [9:56] (person laughing) - For quite some time, [9:58] the difference between, like, a MacBook Air, [10:00] once you, like, added, like, any kind of spec to it. [10:02] and, like, a MacBook Pro, [10:03] was so similar, it was just, like, [10:04] you might as well get, like, the 120 Hz display [10:06] and the extra ports. [10:07] But at 900 bucks, [10:09] this actually feels pretty compelling. [10:10] - [Ken] Did you steal this? [10:12] - I stole it 'cause it was such a good deal. [10:14] - [Ken] Oh, it's also not open-box. [10:15] It's actually like- - No, no. [10:16] Okay, so again, [10:17] none of the Costco stuff was, like, open-box returns. [10:19] Like, this is brand new, still sealed. [10:20] Yeah yeah yeah. [10:21] There are certainly refurb models and whatnot. [10:23] But as far as, like, a brand new, [10:25] like, still sealed in the box, [10:26] full warranty, the whole thing, [10:28] I think we found a really good deal here. [10:29] And I will say the Sky Blue is very lovely. [10:33] Ooh, that's nice. [10:34] That's pretty nice. [10:35] So, my friends, [10:36] I'm going to spend some time with a 15 inch MacBook Air [10:40] that I got a smoking deal from at Costco. [10:43] And we'll see if it's worth it, [10:45] and if you should actually even [10:46] buy a MacBook Air at this point. [10:48] (screen whooshing) So I'm of two minds [10:49] when it comes to using the MacBook Air. [10:51] It is a thoroughly excellent laptop. [10:53] I mean, surprise, surprise. [10:54] And this is my first time really [10:56] daily driving the 15 inch variant. [10:58] The extra screen real estate is absolutely appreciated. [11:00] The larger trackpad is nice. [11:01] Even though it's so thin, [11:04] it does kind of feel a little heavy. [11:05] I don't think they should be [11:06] using the MacBook Air name on these guys anymore. [11:09] The concern I had about really the MacBook, [11:11] really since the MacBook Neo came out earlier this year, [11:14] is just the simple fact that the MacBook Air feels like [11:16] it's kind of in no man's land. [11:17] The Neo is a terrific laptop. [11:19] It's $600 and less. [11:20] It is absolutely the MacBook [11:21] that I would recommend to most people. [11:23] And if you need more than the Neo, [11:25] generally speaking, I would recommend to go up to the Pro. [11:27] When you put it all together, [11:28] it really feels like the Air is [11:29] in this really weird, kind of, middle ground [11:31] where it doesn't really do anything all that well. [11:34] That's what I would say, [11:35] if I would've paid full price for this MacBook Air. [11:38] But I paid $300, $400 less than MSRP, [11:41] and that really changes the bargain. [11:43] The biggest downside with this configuration is [11:45] it only has 256 GB of storage, [11:47] which is very minimal no matter how you slice it. [11:50] But I gotta say, [11:51] chalk a giant W up for Costco on this one. [11:54] Next up we have ourselves a GoPro. [11:57] I have not used a brand new GoPro in a minute. [12:00] It felt like for a while, like, the HERO, [12:02] like, five, and six, and stuff, [12:04] they're making, like, big progress. [12:05] But then I feel like a lot of the updates [12:07] were just kind of whatever. [12:08] - [Alex] But also tons of competitors [12:10] have popped up. - Yes. [12:11] If I'm gonna use, like, a GoPro or something, [12:13] instead, I'm usually gonna use either my phone [12:15] or, like, one of the other DJI cameras or something. [12:17] So, like, I haven't been in the action cam game for a while. [12:20] This my friends, is the GoPro HERO13, the Black Edition, [12:25] which is apparently the top end, I would believe. [12:27] And this is also a whole bundle [12:28] that comes with extra batteries and a 128 GB SD card. [12:32] - [Alex] Yeah. And that one came out at the end of 2024. [12:35] - Okay. So, like, a year and a half old. [12:38] Eh, that's fine. [12:39] It does come with a nice, little carrying case, [12:40] which I actually do appreciate. [12:41] Oh, that's actually really nice. [12:43] Oh, we have mounts and stuff too. [12:45] Excellent. [12:46] - Oh. - Oh, you know what it is? [12:47] This screen looks bigger. [12:48] What's the spec of a GoPro at this point? [12:50] Like, what can you actually shoot with it? [12:51] 5.3K. [12:53] You can also do 4K120. [12:55] So I'm actually excited to see, especially, [12:57] because this was a pretty good deal, I think. [13:01] - [Ken] How much? [13:02] - Well, first of all, [13:03] Alex, what's just the MSRP? [13:04] - [Alex] If you want just the HERO13 Black, it's $350. [13:10] The closest bundle I can see is one on Amazon. [13:14] - Yes. - And that goes for $400. [13:16] - And we paid... [13:18] - [Alex] We paid $340. [13:22] - This is just straight up the same, [13:23] actually slightly better bundle [13:25] than other places have like Amazon. [13:27] Why don't we get this guy set up and up to date, [13:31] and we'll take it for a little spin to see, [13:33] not only did we get a good deal, [13:35] but can we do some cool action stuff? [13:37] (plane zooming) [13:38] Who wants to jump out of a plane? [13:40] I mean, I'm down. (screen whooshing) [13:41] Okay, so we're taping the GoPro to the car. (laughs) [13:44] - [Ken] Yes, sir. [13:46] - Okay. [13:47] Well, so this is a little look at the 5.3K image quality [13:51] literally taped onto a very, very fast RC car. [13:55] So we're shooting right now. [13:56] I've got the preview up on my phone in LOG. [13:59] However, if the editing team put on a LUT, [14:01] you'll see that the actual color [14:02] and whatnot should look a lot better. [14:04] And with 5.3K you should be able to, like, punch in, [14:06] and all that kind of fun stuff. [14:07] - So I'm gonna start it off low throttle trim first. [14:11] Oh, my God. (motor rumbling) [14:11] That's so cool. (motor rumbling) [14:12] - [Austin] Whoa! Wait, dude, that's actually really good. [14:14] - You wanna go crazy throttle? [14:16] - A little bit. Yeah. [14:18] - It will- - There's a car coming. [14:19] - It's okay. I'll just hit it. [14:20] (motor rumbling) [14:21] Oh, my god. (Austin laughing) [14:22] It just popped a wheelie. (Austin laughing) [14:24] Go! (motor rumbling) [14:25] - Gee, dude! [14:26] And the stabilization works really well. [14:28] So I'm on SuperView right now. [14:29] You want to go full speed? (laughs) [14:31] - What's... [14:31] How are you not on full speed? [14:33] - Okay. Ready? [14:34] - Three, two, one. (screen chiming) [14:36] Go! (screen chiming) [14:37] (motor rumbling) (people laughing) [14:40] Dude, that's so fast! [14:42] Dude! [14:44] Wow! (Ken laughing) [14:46] He went so far away, [14:46] I lost connection on the preview. [14:48] (upbeat music) (motor rumbling) [14:50] Oh no! [14:50] (upbeat music continues) [14:51] (people laughing) (upbeat music continues) [14:53] You know, it almost doesn't even look that fast [14:55] with how wide the GoPro is [14:57] and the stabilization really smooths it out. [14:59] Thanks, Costco, for giving us a good deal. [15:03] (upbeat music continues) (motor rumbling) [15:05] That is so close to ripping all the skin off your hand. [15:07] - I know. [15:08] (people laughing) (upbeat music continues) [15:10] (screen whooshing) - How do y'all [15:11] feel about headphones? [15:13] - Good. - Okay.
