## Summary

This video offers practical advice on transforming a smartphone from a source of distraction into a productivity tool. The creator shares personal strategies for decluttering apps, hiding time-wasters, and managing notifications to minimize procrastination and enhance focus on studies and work.

### Key Points

- **The Problem: Smartphones as Procrastination Tools** [00:02] — Smartphones provide convenience through apps, maps, texting, and information, but they are also major procrastination tools that consume hours that could be spent productively.
- **Tip 1: Maintain Simplicity** [00:29] — Delete apps you haven't used in a long time and no longer need. Keep useful apps like Google Maps, phone, contacts, messages, and Spotify on the home screen for easy access.
- **Tip 2: Use the Sidebar for Daily Apps** [01:07] — Keep apps you use every night and morning on the sidebar for quick access, reducing the time spent searching for them, which compounds daily.
- **Tip 3: Delete or Hide Bad Apps** [01:21] — For procrastination apps like Facebook and Instagram, delete them entirely. For others like Snapchat, hide them from the home page to add friction before access.
- **Tip 4: Remove Games** [02:00] — Delete games to prevent impulsive play. If you want to play, you must re-download and log in, which discourages casual use. Keep only a few puzzle games hidden from view.
- **Tip 5: Reduce Notifications** [02:29] — Turn off notifications for all apps except essentials like email and messenger. This prevents constant distractions and spam.
- **Manage Email and Messenger** [02:54] — Keep notifications on for Gmail for work, but unsubscribe from spam. Mute non-essential conversations in messenger apps to avoid distractions.
- **Example: Muting a Chat** [03:33] — The creator muted a friend's chat indefinitely because they sent random useless stuff, illustrating how to manage messenger distractions.

### Conclusion

By simplifying the home screen, hiding or deleting distracting apps, and managing notifications, you can turn your phone into a productivity machine. These small changes reduce procrastination and help you focus on what matters.

## Transcript

of the nokia brick i used when i was in high school these the way we live increasing convenience through useful apps maps texting games and access to information
however you probably realized already they're the biggest procrastination tools out there and they take away hours and hours of spending more productively in this video i'll go over a few simple and actionable
on how you can turn your smartphone into a productivity machine and allow it to benefit your studies and work rather than hold you back through procrastination the first tip is to maintain simplicity
you want to use and actually need this means deleting apps from a long time ago that you haven't used in a very long time and no longer have any need for it you also want to keep your useful apps at
and these can include apps like your google maps your phone and your contacts and your messages as well as things like spotify or access to your furthermore i like to keep some apps on the sidebar for easy access as well
use every night before i sleep and every morning when i wake up amount of time you have to sit through your phone to look for what you're in a very short amount of time and this compounds every day you use your phone
for the apps that are bad and you don't really want to use this can just be things like straightforward deleting procrastination for me this hasn't involved just straight up deleting the facebook app
and also the instagram app for my phone so if i ever wanted to access these i'd first have to swipe up and then find my google chrome app and there which is just an additional step to try
morning when i wake up for other apps for example snapchat and google searches sometimes will need to talk to friends or just search for important things on uh what i'll do is instead of deleting them right away
not from the home page steps before i can actually access it and then i've also just straight up i did want to play a game just because i felt like it and was bored or
then i have to re-download the whole game log in again and everything like that to get my progress back and this just stops me from doing that on my phone except for a few puzzles and problem solving games and then again
these are also hidden from view the next tip is to reduce distractions off notifications for apps that keep spamming you and also pretty much all your messenger apps except for the very essentials this
means i've turned up notifications for everything except for my email and my messenger so for all other apps i've pretty much just turned off because what they do is just spam me and distract me from what i actually want to
at that point in time however i do keep notifications on for my gmail because that i need to reply to for example for work but what i do is i'd unsubscribe to these kind of sites are trying to just send to me and
spam and unsubscribe so i make sure to stop for apps such as messenger which can be mostly important if someone something urgent has happened and a friend needs to talk to you or
something like that there are other times when things aren't very essential so what you do then is make sure you meet those conversations to stop getting all the time that just distracts you from your work or your studies
an example of this is just my chat with dinette and because he just sends me all this random useless stuff all the time he's muted indefinitely so those are the steps that i use to turn my phone into the productivity machine that it is
