Endgame Encore Post-Credits Breakdown — Full Breakdown & Transcript

[00:00] Before we go further, spoiler warning for Avengers Endgame Encore and the new scenes for Goof Day! Damn, Steve couldn't even get his full dance with Peggy before Loki comes in to ruin everything?

[00:13] Welcome back to New Rockstars, I'm Eric Voss and this is the breakdown of the four post-credits scenes and new footage for Avengers Goof Day that played with Avengers Endgame Encore, the re-release of Endgame now in theaters. The reveals and implications of these scenes are shocking and there's so much to break down and I'm going to do it all in this video.

[00:29] I do highly recommend you actually go rewatch Endgame in theaters this weekend. Watching it in a big crowded room was such a fun experience, and I think it is an essential step before Doomsday. Then, once you're done, come back to this video. Tomorrow on the new Rockstar channel is going to be a massive breakdown of the hundreds, maybe thousands, of missed details in Avengers Endgame.

[00:59] All right, Avengers Endgame Encore includes four post-credits scenes that all directly connect to the events of Endgame 2 Avengers Doomsday. The first is Steven Pegg's dance at the end of Endgame being interrupted by Loki as the TVA agents enter their home. Second, Bruce Banner after the events of Spider-Man Brand New Day in self-exile trying to stop himself from hulking out and then getting collected by Doctor Doom.

[01:18] Next, Mobius Casey OB misminutes in the TVA reacting to 3,000 different worlds colliding in incursion, and specifically the Fox X-Men Earth bombarding another Earth. And four, a stinger at the very end of the credits that turns the sounds of Iron Man hammering from the original Endgame credits

[01:33] into the sounds of Doctor Doom hammering his mask instead, confirming correct a theory I pitched in a video and months ago in a way that completely blew my mind. Let's start with the first one. It comes at the very beginning of the credits, picking up with the original final scene of Avengers Endgame

[01:45] that revealed Steve Rogers decided to stay in the past after, we think, returning all six Infinity Stones from where and when they were originally taken during the time heist. As with Endgame, we hear Harry King's orchestra's It's Been a Long, Long Time from 1945,

[01:58] a song that many returning GIs hooked up with their brides to to give us the whole baby boomer generation. It was the same song that Nick Fury played in Steve's apartment in 2014's Captain America Winter Soldier.

[02:12] We know from the Endgame screenplay that this is a Washington, D.C. suburb in 1949, but where it's Endgame ended by cutting to black right as Steve leans in for a kiss. Now, we cut to this new overhead shot where a knock at the door splits the two apart.

[02:25] A look of alarm takes a hold of both of their faces. I mean, Steve just got back into Peggy's arms. What could this be? Well, Peggy takes the stylus off the wrecker as Steve hides behind a wall. As Peggy enters the door, we hear the voice of Loki. Hi.

[02:37] Steve looks up. He knows that voice. It's the god of mischief, the one who's always fix-fitting into him. Peggy asks, can I help you? Loki steps in through the door dressed as a TVA analyst in a peacoat. No, he says, but I can help you.

[02:49] And then, sensing Steve on the other side of that wall, Loki says, Both of you. Steve stares back at Loki, mystified. End of scene one. So, this scene confirms what the July 20th trailer shot seems to suggest, that Loki will visit the home of Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter and hand them his TDA calling card.

[03:05] We don't know when in the timeline of Loki variant L1130 this scene takes place for him. It's possible that this was some side trip that Loki went on when he was a TDA agent working alongside Mobius. But when you rewatch all 12 episodes of Loki season 1 and season 2, we really did see everything from that Loki's point of view.

[03:23] And we always knew where he was and what he was dealing with, and I don't think he ever would have had the time or opportunity to go visit them when he was still an agent. The one exception would be in the latter half of season 2 when Loki was chaotically time-slipping and looping around the destruction of the temporal loom to try to prevent that disaster.

[03:38] But even during those time jumps and cuts, Loki was singularly focused on that crisis. So really the most rational explanation of this is, we are seeing God of Stories Loki from his throne at the center of the sacred timeline Yggdrasil tree, projecting himself via his duplication casting abilities into one of these strands of time, into this branch timeline that was just newly formed by Steve deciding to stay in the past.

[03:59] Loki is here to help them because Steve's decision to stay in this past, this branch timeline, must be too disruptive to the overall balance of the multiverse. And so maybe by helping them, Loki is offering to spare them from being pruned out of existence.

[04:12] Now, you might think that the whole point of the TVA being in the state that it was in at the end of Loki Season 2 was to prevent ever having to aggressively prune any branch history. But, like any gardener nurturing a plant, sometimes some branches do have to be gently clipped,

[04:26] and maybe for Loki, as God of Stories, doing what he's doing here is how he's doing this gently. Pruning the branch history that shouldn't exist, but kindly making an exception for this nice couple to put them in a kind of TVA witness protection. There are rumors out there from possible links as to how Loki will actually help them.

[04:42] I'm going to cover those in my rumor rundown segment at the end of this video, so you can skip it if you want to stay completely leak-free. But I will say that this house is clearly in a Washington, D.C. suburb, while the shot of Steve on his motorcycle in the first Doomsday Teaser last December,

[04:55] where he's rocking that baby, that house, while having the same architecture, seems to have been relocated to a completely different plot of land, a more remote farm setting. Definitely not a suburb with neighbors. Since we know 1939's The Wizard of Oz is one reference, Steve Rogers understands.

[05:08] Loki used it to turn two of the sharpest men I know into his personal flying monkey. Monkey. I do. I understood that reference. Do not be surprised if this solution involves extracting a house from one land into another land that's not in 616 Kansas anymore.

[05:25] And that relocation, as Dorothy did by crushing the Wicked Witch of the West's sister, might have accidentally created a new enemy for Steve Rogers. And the fact that Steve Rogers hides behind a wall suggests that he knows he's in the wrong being here. He knows he didn't do everything correctly with the stones and that he definitely should not have stayed here.

[05:40] He was expecting someone knocking on that door. It's gotta be crazy for Steve to see Loki here because he has only known Loki as a villain. I cannot wait to see this conversation. On to scene number two. This comes in the middle of the credits and it catches up with Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner after the events of Spider-Man Brand New Day.

[05:56] So confirmed, Mark Ruffalo is in Avengers Doomsday. We see Bruce in an underground military bunker by himself as he records a video diary that also serves to carry video footage of his concrete-walled room in Cots. He says, This is Dr. Bruce Banner.

[06:09] Recently, I suffered my first incident in over a decade. Since then, I've been in subcontainment in a joint-based military complex. Two miles under the surface of Earth, the Hulk is not getting out of here, and no one else is getting in. During my time here, I've actually been experimenting.

[06:22] And now Bruce mounts the camera at his workstation where we see several screens showing 3D scans of a hypothetical Hulk body And he continues I been experimenting with a new gamma suppression serum and my early results have been quite promising So today I'd like to demonstrate for you some of my findings.

[06:35] But as Bruce says these last sentences, the overhead light glitches, his computer screen glitches next to him, and the camera recording of this glitches. We hear a magical warbling, and then a green glow shines in on Bruce's face from the right.

[06:47] Bruce looks over and says, No! And the video feed cuts out briefly. And Bruce asks, Who are you? And we hear Robert Downey Jr.'s librarian voice as Dr. Doom. Mr. Banner. The video feed briefly cuts back to show Brute standing as he asks in a deeper voice,

[07:01] indicating that he's starting to hulk out a little here. What are you doing here? And now, in the video glitching, we actually see a flash of Dr. Doom's white magical rune. Yes, a digital artifact on the video feed, which is crazy.

[07:13] It shows us that Doom's sorcery is affecting the video recording itself. Creepy as hell. And we hear Dr. Doom's voice say, I'm here to collect you. And then we hear a loud magical chime as the whole war.

[07:25] And then his voice kind of trails off as he seems to disappear. And then, Blair Witch style, the camera tripod tips over, and we're left seeing the bunker floor as Dr. Doom's signature room. Yes, the one on his gauntlet glows green on the floor,

[07:38] the same burning green glow that we see on the throne room floor in the D23 trailer, making me wonder who the hell did Dr. Doom just prune from that room in that scene? So in this scene, Bruce Banner's video feed has a date stamp,

[07:50] 01-12-2029. Assuming this is an American joint military date or an American camera, this would be January 12th, 2029. But we should note that it could also be in another country that uses a day-month dating convention.

[08:03] It could make this possibly December 1st, 2029. But we know the events of Avengers Doomsday take place 14 months after the events of Thunderbolts, which was sometime in late 2027 in the MCU timeline. So I think January 12th, 2029 masks better with that.

[08:16] And in the official MCU timeline, the main events of Spider-Man Brand New Day take place in October 2028. So this was set June day, three months after that, in January 2029. This scene confirms where Bruce Banner went after Brand New Day.

[08:28] In that film, Ned watched a news report claiming that after Bruce's incident at DODC Tower, he was being taken into a psychiatric hospital, which made Ned cry. Now we know that Bruce is in self-imposed containment. Two miles underground in this joint

[08:40] military base, meaning multiple branches of military operated. Two miles underground is insanely deep. Both deep military command bunkers or shelters go about 2,000 feet deep, which is less than half a mile. But there are South African gold mines

[08:52] that reach down as far as 13,100 feet or nearly 2.5 miles. Either way, something this secret and this secure seems like a kind of facility that would be overseen by Val and the CIA. Interesting to me that Dr. Doom calls Bruce Mr. Banner, right after Bruce began his video

[09:06] by calling himself Dr. Bruce Banner. Maybe Dr. Doom doesn't respect the Earth-616 academic credentials that Bruce Banner received. And by I'm here to collect you, it looks like Doctor Doom is kidnapping the Hulk for what he's working to build,

[09:19] his utopian world of Latverion, a.k.a. Battleworld. We saw in early concept art that Marvel was at least considering a Hulk village that would have been part of Battleworld. So basically, I think Doctor Doom pruned the Hulk into the void, the TVA's dumping ground that Ivan Doom will use as the building ground of Battleworld.

[09:34] We saw from the Doctor Doom Iron Studios figurine that he has some device that many of us think is the ultimate nullifier, that in this movie could be Doctor Doom's version of a Supreme Pruning Stick. You could also interpret this collection as Doctor Doom absorbing the Hulk's power, all of his gamma radiation.

[09:49] But I would think if this Doctor Doom had the godly power to find Hulk here, to teleport into this bunker in Earth-616, to do whatever he's doing to him, it suggests that he's already powerful enough to not need that gamma radiation for a power that the Hulk has.

[10:02] But yes, all of this is new context for what this fiery green glow, what this symbol means, what this magic can really do, and specifically who was on that throne room floor before Doctor Doom ignited that spell, kind of like a villain pulling a tractor lever.

[10:15] Scene three was obviously my favorite. We knew that TVA was going to be in Doomsday, but the fact that Owen Wilson's Mobius, Kiwi Kwan's Obi, and Eugene Cordero's Casey are all going to be in this movie too makes me so hyped. We've seen the animated Miss Minutes coming at us from rows and rows of TVA analysts.

[10:31] Welcome to the Town's Area of Authority, TVA for short. Glad she's doing this, because a lot of viewers are going to be coming into this movie having no idea what the TVA is. But her voice continues to play as we see a new area of the TVA from the Loki series in Deadpool will ring

[10:44] with Mobius strolling across a new logo on the floor. It is the same perimeter words, Time, Variance, Authority, For All Time, Always, and a downward-facing sword and hourglass logo, but it's different from the logo that had the shield and olive branches from the end of the Loki series.

[10:57] Miss Venice continues, There's a whole mess of universes out there. Our job is to keep them tidy and safe. She's referring to how, at the end of Loki season 2, the mission of the TVA changed. The TVA was originally created by Kang variant He-Remains, with its technology designed by a temporal partnership, of course, between variant Victor Timeling and OB, aka A.D. Doug, with the purpose of maintaining the sacred timeline and proving out of existence all variant branch timelines formed by Nexus events that would have led to the rise of a rival Kang variant to He-Remains.

[11:26] In Season 1, Loki variant Sylvie killed He-Remains, causing all the branch timelines to overload the temporal loom that processes these strands into the sacred timeline. In season two, Loki tried to stop that explosion from happening, and ended up taking He Remains' place as the new god of stories at the center of all time,

[11:41] with his and the organization's new mission of being no longer pruning branch timelines violently, but rather a kind of peaceful tidying, and an acceptance of the diversity of the multiverse. In Deadpool and Wolverine, we learn that there are still some rogue TVA agents trying to make names for themselves like Mr. Paradox,

[11:56] but overall the TVA is no longer in the business of destroying timelines completely, or separate universes, as Ms. Minutes notes to call them now, and just kind of lets them naturally grow and exist and die their natural deaths when these anchor beams die.

[12:08] But until that point happens, they just try to monitor and keep everything in a healthy balance. That's what we're seeing on the TVA screens now. The sacred timeline, vertically oriented like a tree, with each golden strand representing a different universe, all coming together in the center where Loki is and then fanning out above him.

[12:23] October is right around the corner, and our whole office is already dedicating what the best Halloween candies and treats are. [15:04] This is also what the Illuminati of Earth-838 warned Doctor Strange about in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. Dream walking into your body from another universe is one thing that can lead to incursion. Two or more Earths colliding, destroying one or both of them completely.

[15:17] I don't know why this warning for a minute would play over employees of the TVA. Maybe it's a PSA for any perpetrators that are currently being booked or arraigned in these offices. But Mobius greets the others and passes this framed portrait of Loki, employee of all time.

[15:30] This is both an employee of the month photo, but also kind of the way federal offices have to have framed pictures of the current president. Loki is their leader and the one they respect the most for sacrificing himself to do the hardest part of keeping the TVA and multiverse in balance.

[15:42] Mobius comes up behind Casey and Obi and casually observes, this doesn't look too good. Obi says, it's a level one incursion. And Casey says, universes 1-0-0-0-5 and 1-1-2-7 are about to collide. Mobius flips open his file and says,

[15:55] okay, well, I did not read about this in the scouting report, or I don't remember. Could it have slipped through the cracks for old Mobius? The fact that Mobius is so ho-hum about this suggests that sometimes level one incursions, which I guess is just two worlds colliding, just happens as business as usual at the PDA,

[16:08] even though it means billions die. But Casey notices something new. Are those missiles? And Mobius asks, are they firing at each other? On the screen, Earth-10005 and Earth-1127 are depicted as two globes.

[16:20] North America of Earth-10005 faces the North America of Earth-1127. Earth-10005 is the numerical designation of the Fox X-Men universe. It was confirmed as a fiscal in 2024 as Deadpool and Wolverine.

[16:32] It's the universe where the Fox-era X-Men films and Deadpool films take place, including the OG era with Patrick Stewart, Professor X, and Ian McKellen-Maldito, all the way through the events of 2014's X-Men Days of Future Past, which then split that history into a new branch timeline

[16:46] following the reboot era from X-Men First Class, with James McAvoy, Professor X, and Michael Fassbender, Magneto, onto its own alternate history, even though those actors were originally implied to be the younger versions of these characters from the 2000 X-Men movie.

[16:58] But the way Days of Future Past ended by restoring the near future, the year 2024, as a restored timeline with Charles, Wolverine, Cyclops, Team Great, Storm, Beast, and the others all alive in the X-Mansions, That is the universe where Avengers Doomsday will pick up with these X-Men.

[17:11] And it is also the universe where, in the post-credits scene of The Marvels, Monica Rambeau went through that multiversal rift into and ended up meeting Beast in a variant of her mother Maria Rambeau as Binary in the basement of that X-Mansion. What Beast in that scene said suggested that these X-Men, including Beast and Charles,

[17:26] were already aware of the multiverse and possible incursions that could be facing their Earth. Now what we see here suggests that these X-Men and or the forces of this Earth are just fully mobilized and armed to the piece to engage in a hot war against another Earth.

[17:39] We don't know what kind of missiles these are. Nuclear ICBMs or some kind of antimatter to just erase that Earth? Or could they be super EMP weapons designed by Magneto to impact the magnetic fields of the other Earth to reverse its trajectory?

[17:52] Maybe it's not meant to just destroy. Maybe it's just meant to repel. But whatever they are, Earth-1127 has these as well. Now, Earth-1127 is not actually an established numerical designation for any Marvel universe that we've heard of before.

[18:05] Earth-11127 is a near-identical branch of Earth-616 that gets destroyed because the Defenders accidentally interfere with the cosmic defense system from Matt Fratchman and Terry Dodson's Fear Itself storyline in 2011-2012, but that's not what this is.

[18:17] This is Earth-1127. We don't know what 1127 is yet. Marvel Studios has so far maintained universe numbers from the comics as we've known them to be. They made the main MCU Earth-616, to the chagrin of many comics readers who assumed that the movie universe was Earth-1999999,

[18:31] but it kept the Fox X-Men universe as Earth-10005 and made the Fantastic Four universe Earth-828. For reference, other possible incursions that we might see in Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars, the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man universe is Earth-96283,

[18:44] and we know from Ned's Spidey Tracker app and the Brand New Day post-credits team that he tracks some Peter Parker arriving in the space of another Earth. The Andrew Garfield Spider-Man universe is Earth-120703. The Wesley Sykes Blade universe is Earth-26320.

[18:58] The Ben Affleck Daredevil and Jennifer Garner Electric Universe is Earth-701306. And the Nicolas Cage Ghost Rider movies universe is Earth-121347. The Ang Lee Hulk Universe is Earth-40083.

[19:11] The 2005 Fantastic Four Universe is Earth-121698. And the 2015 Josh Trank Fantastic Four Universe is Earth And then there have been various animated Earths in the Spider movies including Earth 1610 Miles Morales universe and Earth 42 the Miles G Morales universe where he becomes the Prowler

[19:29] Gonna have some more thoughts on Earth 1127 in the rumor rundown section at the end. But Obi says, each Earth is trying to take out the other before they collide. Mobius says, call over to forecasting, find out why we didn't get a heads up on this. Another tech says, wait, we got another one.

[19:41] Mobius thinks it's a glitch. But then another tech points and says, we have a third. One of these TDA techs is played by James Dryden, the TDA tech from Deadpool and Wolverine, who calls HR while holding the I Like Me mug, a reference from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

[19:54] I love that they brought this guy back. Somewhere around these offices must be B-15 as well. I hope we get to see her, too. On a screen, we see Earth-7355 and Earth-8558 collide and both explode.

[20:06] Both of these Earths, like 1127, also do not have a known history in Marvel Comics. They are completely new. The music gets quite serious, and Mobius says, we got a full alert now. Give me a count. One text says 20 universes. Another says I got 100. And another says

[20:19] 300. And the last one says 3,000. Ending on 3,000. You saw what you did there. I love you 3,000. I love you 3,000.

[20:32] Alan Silvestri's music now kicks into the iconic musical swell that we heard when Thanos in Avengers Endgame said I am inevitable. And Stats and MC Goblet, the same music that Silvestri composed for 2012's Avengers when Tony flew the nuke through the portal.

[20:45] The... Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da. And Obi looks at Cameron and says, the multiverse is collapsing. Cut to Black. Oh, man. So the TVA is prepared for these kind of incursions,

[20:57] but they're not prepared for 3,000 Earths all being destroyed at once. I think we might be seeing a play-by-play of the opening scene of the movie. And I love that we're going to see the TVA as the kind of mission control overseeing this crisis. The fact that this is getting this bad right now

[21:10] suggests that the employee for all time might not have his eye on the ball, or someone might have gotten to him. In my tour of the D23 Doomsday Experience, I noted cracks and damage to the TVA, confirming the TVA had been attacked.

[21:22] I think Dr. Doom has gotten to Loki, or Loki may be currently battling with Doom while this scene is happening. Alright, scene four comes at the very end of the credits. In the 2019 release of Endgame, the credits actually ended with six pings, the sounds of Tony hammering his armor

[21:35] together from 2008's Iron Man and the Cave. They were really paying tribute to where the MCU started, but now these things are recontextualized

[21:49] as Dr. Doom hammering his armored mast. We see quick flashes of a hammer coming down, and Dr. Doom's mask being pulled out of the cooling water by tongs, and then a quick terrifying flash of Dr. Doom's mask with Robert Downey Jr.'s green eyes glaring out at us.

[22:02] Now, we know from a photo of Sylvester E. with Michael Giacchino in the movie's editor that a scene in this movie, maybe the opening scene, will be when the doomsday at the armor room. I can't wait to hear what this music will be. Either way, this is crazy, folks. I pitched this as a theory all the way back in January of this year,

[22:16] when the Endgame re-release was first announced. To Russo's, and Kevin Feige at the time confirmed, the sounds of the hammering were meant to recall Tony Stark building his armor in the cage with a box of scraps from the 2008 Iron Man film, as it allotted a character in his legacy from the very first Marvel Studios film.

[22:31] and a way to book into the Infinity Saga. That's really all the hammering sound was. But now, with Doomsday, the Russos and Marvel Studios have a chance to defecate that sacred coda and reframe it to fit their agenda for Avengers Doomsday

[22:44] and give some context on that cryptic new mask same-task promise that they, so far, have only allowed themselves and Robert Downey Jr. to say as why it has to be Downey returning as a character. So imagine, in this endgame re-release coming in September,

[22:57] the ping, ping, ping of the credits transitions into a new bonus endgame post-credits scene showing a scene from Avengers Doomsday. We fade into a fiery workshop

[23:09] where it's definitely Robert Downey Jr. hammering something like mad against an anvil but instead of the Mark I Iron Man mask, it's the mask of Dr. Doom. I swear I had no idea Marvel was planning this back then.

[23:21] Maybe Marvel didn't know they were going to do it either. Either way, it's cool as hell. I'm so gobby and hyped for this movie. All right, let's end with the rumor rundown where I'm going to talk about some rumored leaks that have been out there that I can't pretend that I haven't seen. The more we see of this movie, the more it aligns with a lot of this leaked plot description

[23:34] that came out earlier this year. The Latverian Wishes was in there. Loki's calling card was in there. The idea of Dr. Jim attaching Loki in the TVA. And now this opening scene with Earth-10005 in a war with another universe,

[23:46] firing missiles and bombs at it. Yeah, that's exactly what the leak says Professor X and Beast are doing to Tobey Maguire's universe. Yeah, this leak did suggest it's going to be Tobey's universe of Earth 96283, where Tobey's spider would fight Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.

[24:00] Maybe that's what Ned's Spidey Tracker Apple was tracking, that Tobey Maguire's universe being in the final four of Earths that collide in this movie, and when the X-Men universe destroys that one, the Finley versus one is 0005, 828, and 616.

[24:12] I think we still might get that scene in this movie, and maybe Earth 1127 is just another Earth that the X-Men destroyed before running into Tobey's Earth. It's also possible that Marvel renamed Tobey's Earth to Earth 1127. I'm trying to figure out if Tobey Maguire or Sam Raimi or someone has a birthday of November 27th.

[24:27] I'm going to keep looking into that number, believe me. But the link also suggested that Loki would transport Steve and Peggy's home from the branch timeline that it's in to Earth 828. That could be why the surroundings look completely different in the Doomsday teaser from December. That could be how Loki helps Steve and Peggy, maybe by taking them to the Kansas of Earth 828.

[24:44] I just really do think Steve will know of the Wizard of Oz, and it's going to come up in Doomsday. So we're going to be talking about this a lot more in the coming weeks.
