Top 5 Entertainment Picks for September 2026 — Full Breakdown & Transcript

[00:00] The Office continues spinning off, Midnight Margarita's return, the first comic book finds refuge in our watch list, plus a 14th century rebellion and a concert film hits IMAX. I'm Frank Gage, this is IGN's Watch List, and here are the top five things we're looking forward to second week of September 2026.

[00:22] At number five, we're looking forward to The Paper Season 2. The Office spinoff surprised me last year. I always liked The Office, but I wasn't a super fan, so I didn't have many expectations for it, but I did really enjoy the paper.

[00:35] Starring Donald Gleeson as the idealistic try-hard in charge of a struggling newspaper, it ticks all the boxes that a Greg Daniels straight-to-cam mockumentary should, especially where the supporting cast is concerned.

[00:47] It's all hyper-specific quirks up and down the caution. Tim Key, in particular, is hilarious as a corporate weasel who is a wonderful little blend of sniveling and adorable. But the show dips into a strange time for journalism as well,

[01:01] and the nature of chasing an audience these days. So I'll be interested to see where it runs with that in season two. And while the first season just flew by, sprinting through storylines that might otherwise have taken a few seasons of an older TV show to tease out,

[01:14] so story-wise, it didn't necessarily need to come back, but I'm glad it did. And I be just as glad to watch it on Peacock when it drops on September 9th At number four the movie my wife is more excited about than anything else this fall Practical Magic 2 hits theaters this Friday from Warner Brothers The Owens women

[01:32] led by sisters Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, return 25 years since we last saw them, still struggling with the curse their family's been dealing with for generations. This movie is a bit of a cult classic.

[01:44] The fantasy elements, the witchcraft, the romantic comedy, plus the absolutely charming combination of Bullock and Kidman, the original is legitimately impossible not to be taken in by it. Part two is no cash-grab, long-distance sequel, though.

[01:58] It's based on a novel, The Book of Magic, that's also a sequel to the novel the original filming based on. So the creative places the movie goes are that much more likely to be honest and thoughtful. Suzanne Deer's an interesting director, too.

[02:11] She last worked with Sandra Bullock on Bird Box, a spooky bit of post-apocalypse that took us all by storm back when we had a little bit of monoculture left. All that to say, there will be margaritas at my house this weekend when Practical Magic 2 drops.

[02:25] Let's switch it up a bit and talk about a comic book. The Forever Home makes our list at number three this week, from writer and artist Christian Ward and artist Sammy Cavella. It follows a family hiding out in an ark of sorts,

[02:37] built to survive the ecological collapse of the planet and to keep everything else out. Thanks to our resident comics guide, Jesse Shadeen, for giving me the heads up on this one, because it sounds amazing. The premise is dark The publisher describes it as Ray Bradbury version of Parasite which is a fascinating elevator pitch The art meanwhile looks like a horror movie version of the Jetsons about the climate apocalypse

[03:00] and the lengths you go to to save your family, even at the cost of everybody else. So, what it lacks in happy-go-lucky vibes, it's going to make up for in prescient science fiction, which is exactly the right flavor of storytelling for me.

[03:14] And Christian Ward is on a touch of a hot streak as well. His run with an Event Horizon prequel comic has been great, so whatever he's got coming next, I'm here for. And in case it's unclear what this whole show is for,

[03:26] what's next is The Forever Home, the first issue releases on September 9th from Oni Press. From the possible future at number three, for number two, let's move to the moderately fictionalized past, for The Uprising.

[03:38] Starring Andrew Garfield as the leader of a peasant's rebellion in the waning days of the Middle Ages in England. As a plowman who fights back against the crown's tyrannical rule, the film is based on a true story, dramatizing a 14th century revolt known as the Great Uprising.

[03:53] This kind of movie always gets my attention for some reason. I'm not sure what it is about this particular subgenre. It's a middle-budget period piece built around an interesting actor mixing some dudes fighting

[04:05] in armor. It's great. I love it every time. The King with Tennessee Chalamet from a few years back comes to mind with this particular subgenre as well. This is also a Paul Greengrass film who did The Foreign Supremacy The Foreign Ultimatum United 93 Captain Phillips The guy knows how to make action feel big and brutal while focusing the stakes of that action on the emotions of the main character

[04:27] The trailer for The Uprising looks like it's doing just that, showing the weight of it all bearing down on Andrew Garciak specifically as the leader of a historically bloody society. It's in theaters this Friday from Focus Features.

[04:40] And finally, at number one, Oasis' Don't Look Back in Anger is going to be big and loud and a good time whether you're a fan of the band or not. A rocky memory about the band getting back together for a tour for the first time in 15 years

[04:53] after Noel and Liam Gallagher were, I guess the polite way to put it is estranged, they yelled at each other a ton, and it's one of rock and roll's most historic riffs. Now, I didn't get a chance to see the tour, but I know a lot of people that did.

[05:06] And as a high school kid in the 90s who very much wore out my What's the Story Morning Glory TV, the chance to at least catch parts of that concert in IMAX is not something I'm going to take lightly. So, I'm going to do what I can to find it on the biggest screen possible when it drops on September 11th.
