AI Summary

An experienced homeowner shares practical renovation tips learned from past mistakes. The video covers general planning, deciding between an interior designer (ID) and contractors, electrical and network wiring planning, and the importance of being present on-site.

[00:00]
Introduction and Background

The speaker shares renovation tips based on personal experience, noting this is not their first renovation and they learned from past mistakes.

[03:17]
ID vs Contractor Decision

Advises hiring contractors for condos (less work needed), limited budgets (under 20k), or if you're familiar with renovation processes. IDs are better for complex projects but don't rely on them for design.

[04:26]
Design Research

Design is subjective; even senior IDs may not match your taste. Research online, look at Taiwan design YouTube channels, and screenshot ideas to share with your ID.

[05:42]
Electrical Wiring Planning

Plan electrical wiring carefully using floor plans. Mark light switches and know which light each controls. Allocate power circuits with specific purposes (e.g., for robot vacuum, smart home hub, standing lamp).

[08:24]
Network Data Wiring

Plan network wiring separately. Recommends Google mesh Wi-Fi system. For newer BTO flats, data points run to rooms; for older ones, use existing data port near TV. Consider wired connections for TV and desktop.

[10:37]
On-Site Presence

Be on-site as much as possible before installations. Reconfirm measurements, materials, and colors with your ID. Inspect completed work immediately to catch mistakes early.

Successful renovation requires thorough planning, especially for electrical and network wiring, and active involvement on-site to catch errors early. Choosing between an ID and contractor depends on your budget, project scope, and familiarity with renovation processes.

[00:00] Hai balik back back to the channel. I'm going to share some tips for my renovations journey as an experience homeowner. If you have not seen my household video or if you need some refresher of what renovation I did

[00:12] I've put the video link inside the YouTube card You can go check it out. So this is not my first house renovation. I learned a lot from mistakes. So I wanted to share all of them with you guys. As I'm preparing the script for this video

[00:24] and writing down the main points I want to cover, I realized I have so many things that I wanted to talk about.

みたい

[03:17] video saya share, saya share pilihan saya, saya hargai produk rumah yang saya hargai. next is a big question that you have to ask yourself is to engage ID or look for contractors. I will say look for contractors if you are in a folding category

[03:30] if you are renovating a condo because condo comes with a lot of renovation works already done for you like the flooring, the entire kitchen, toilets, the bedroom, wardrobe, or done for you what's remaining will be just a few items which you can easily look for contractors

[03:46] to get those work done for you look for contractors if you have very limited budget like budget of less than 20k because usually for 20k an ID will not be very interested

[03:59] and entertain you too much or so look for contractors if you are very familiar with how the renovation, home renovation works like the sequence, the dependencies, who has to come in and do what work first

[04:12] if you are very familiar with all this then of course get contractors so even if you have decided to go with an ID my advice is don't rely on ID too much do your home homework and research for the design you want

[04:26] design is something very subjective so even a senior designer who has been in this field for maybe 20-30 years the design he should give you might not be something you like also

[04:40] I would say most of the ID will give you very standard HDB design tentative for new HDB which is kind of understandable because they have did so many projects before already

[04:53] and from the business perspective it is safer to go with something that has proven to work I see ID as more of a coordinator and a technical advisor

[05:05] so it's important to choose someone that you can connect and click very well with if you want to do some research go online and look for some design ideas well I hope I don't get wet in the comment section

[05:17] if you are not looking at doing something very typical HDB design I will recommend you not to look at Singapore once personally I like to check out the Taiwan Design YouTube videos

[05:30] there are two channels that I like to check out personally I will link that in the video description below so when watching all these videos whenever I see something that I like I will screenshot down the design

[05:42] then I will share them with the ID so basically that's what I did my next step is to plan the electrical wiring properly most of the time ID will not be too bothered with this they leave it to you to communicate your requirements that I leave with the

[05:56] electrician so many people tend to overlook this but to me this is super important if you are not doing any hacking works electrician will be the first guy to go in I will suggest you to use a floor plan

[06:09] and mark out all the light switches that you want and for each of these light switch you know very clearly which light you are supposed to on or off then another separate floor plan to mark out all the power circuits that you want

[06:25] so my advice is don't under or over allocate these points every point should have its own purpose okay let me walk you around the house to better explain this so what do I mean by knowing your light switches well

[06:40] at the entrance I know that I want to have 4 light switches and for each of them I know exactly which light they are supposed to on or off so one of them is for this entrance light then I will want to have another light switch

[06:53] for the down light as well as the LED cove light running below together then one for the fan and one for this dining light and what do I mean by every power circuit should have its own purpose

[07:08] so I know that I am going to put a shurek that requires a power over here so I just put one bright beside my shurek and another example is underneath the dining table

[07:20] I also have one power circuit that you can see over here it's for the robber cue or steamboat dinner you can use that power circuit and opposite here I know that I am going to put a vacuum robot

[07:33] so also one power circuit for the vacuum then oh there is also one another one over here this is my akara hut for my smart home stuff

[07:45] and you also serve as a very nice night light over there then more examples come let me show you I have a standing lamp over here

[07:58] so that's why I have a power socket for the standing lamp then I also know that I am going to put the akara smart hut I mean akara smart curtain so that will require a power also

[08:11] so you can see the motor connecting to a power socket so try to visualize and plan a hit which are the things that you are going to put and will require a power source

[08:24] besides planning for the electrical wiring you will also want to plan for the network data wiring this is another thing that the ID wouldn't care and don't assume that the electrician is familiar with this as well so I will briefly explain to you how the data wiring runs

[08:39] actually I will give you the best recommended solution we should apply to most of people which is using the Google mesh Wi-Fi system just get that so I assume that every family household should have this open network device

[08:53] then you will have a fiber optic cable that should connect the other end to this optical network device this used to be called optical network terminal but now they sort of upgraded this to become optical network router

[09:06] which means that all the ports behind can now be used if you are having the newer BTO flats then you will realize there are a bunch of data points over here that runs directly to all the different rooms

[09:19] so what you can do is if you need a wire connection you can straight away connect one cable, one end and the other end connecting to the data points and for example if you have a desktop machine at your bedroom too

[09:31] that desktop machine will have a wired connection straight away from this optical network router so for those that is not so new HDB you will have a data port over here

[09:43] and what you want to do is one end connect here and the other end to the optical network router and the output of this should be somewhere where HDB wants you to put your TV

[09:57] and the output of that data cable should be coming out there to connect to your router but for my case because of my design I definitely wouldn't be putting my router over here so I shifted that point down cutting cross across

[10:10] straight away to my study room so it comes out here you can see that there is a point over there so that output will connect to my router

[10:23] and I will have another cable going back straight in to connect to my TV so that's because I will recommend to have wired connection for the TV as well as for desktop machines

[10:37] my last tip for this part is to always find out what is the next renovation work to be carried out and try to be on site as much as possible before any installation reconfirm the measurement, the materials used

[10:50] the color choices with your ID and once it's completed make a trip down go and make sure that everything is okay before it's too late if there's any mistakes that's all from me for today

[11:02] if you have any questions you can drop them in the comments down below for the next part I'll be sharing design renovation tips which should be very useful for you so don't forget to subscribe, hit the notification bell bye and see you in part 2
