How to Run Hermes Agent for Free: Two Methods

Run Hermes' agent free forever. Here is how. That's what today is about. Two ways to do it, both completely free. And I'm actually running both of these myself right now inside something I built called the agent OS. Everything's already set up on my end. download the zip file I put together and run it yourself. So here's the two ways. The first is a tool called Omni Route. It's brand new, open source, and it connects Hermes' agent to over 200 free AI providers at once. The second is a Chinese model called Hunyuan HY3. Tencent just released the full version, and right now it's free to use. Let's go through both step-by-step. Starting with Omni Route. Think of it like a switchboard operator

from the old days. Back then, if you wanted to make a phone call, an operator would plug your line into the right connection for you. Omni Route does that for AI. Instead of Hermes' agent talking to one AI company directly, it talks to Omni Route first. Omni Route then picks the best free option out of over 230 providers and routes your request there. Here's why that matters. If you only use one AI provider, you're stuck the

moment it gets busy or hits a limit. Your agent just stops. With Omni Route, if one provider runs dry, it switches to the next one on its own. You don't touch anything. Your Hermes' agent just keeps working like nothing happened. There's also something built in called RTK and Caveman. You don't need to remember the names. All that matters is they shrink your requests before they go out, so you use less of your free allowance per message.

Caveman even makes the AI reply short and blunt on purpose. Kind of like it's talking in plain simple sentences instead of long paragraphs. That saves even more room, which means you go further before hitting any limit. Setting it up sounds technical, but it isn't. You install Omni Route with one command and it opens a dashboard in your browser. Inside that dashboard, you pick from the free providers, no credit card required. They released the full version on July 6th after running an earlier preview for a few months. It's a big model, 295 billion parameters

total, but it doesn't use all of them at once. Only about 21 billion activated at a time depending on the task. That's why it can run fast and cheap compared to models that use everything every single time. What makes HY3 good for agent work is how it handles tools. When an AI agent uses tools like searching the web or reading files, it has to format its request correctly or things break. Tencent said they fixed a lot

of the small errors that used to cause problems here. They tested it across different agent setups and said results stayed steady, which matters if you want something you can rely on, not something that only works some of the time. Right now, HY3 is free through Open Router, and that free window runs through July 21st. After that, pricing kicks in, but it stays one of the cheaper options out there. You can also get it free through the

news portal, which connects straight into Hermes agent. Inside Hermes, there's a setup command for it. You run the portal setup, log in once, and HY3 shows up as a model you can pick from inside your Hermes profile from then on. Here's a way you'd use this for the AI profit boardroom. Say you want a summary of feedback from inside the community. You'd prompt HY3 through Hermes like this. Read through these member comments about the AI profit

boardroom and pull out the three most common questions people are asking. HY3 handles long documents well, up to 256,000 tokens in one go, so it can read a lot of messages at once without losing track of what came earlier. Let's get back into the setup because there's a bit more worth knowing. With Omni Route, once your dashboard is open, you'll see a section for combos. A combo is just a list of providers stacked

in order. Put your favorite one first, then a backup, then another after that. When the first one is busy, it moves down the list automatically. You can build one combo for writing tasks and another for research and switch depending on what you're doing that day. People often ask if the free part is actually free, or if it's one of those setups where you get a taste and then get charged later. It's not like that. Omni Route

has no billing system built into it at all. It just routes you to providers that already offer free access on their own. Some, like Kyra, cap you at a certain number of free credits a month. Others, like Pollinations and Cloudflare, don't cap you at all. Because Omni Route stacks several providers together, when one runs low, you roll onto the next one and barely notice. For HY3, the setup is a little different since you're connecting straight to

Tencent's model instead of routing across many providers. If you use the news portal inside Hermes, the login is one-time only. Run the setup command, a browser window opens, you sign in, and Hermes remembers that connection going forward. If you'd rather use Open Router directly, you can do that, too. Grab a key from Open Router, drop it into your Hermes profile settings, and pick the HY3 model from the list. Here's a simple rule I follow. Use HY3

when you need one strong model to handle something detailed like reading a long document or working through a multi-step task where the tool calls need to be accurate. Use Omni Root for everyday tasks when you mainly want to make sure you never hit a wall since it's constantly falling back to whatever's available. It's worth understanding why any of this works right now. A year ago, running an AI agent for free like this wasn't possible. You'd hit

a limit within minutes. Free tiers were tiny and there was no real way to stack them together. What changed is that so many companies are competing for developers to build on their models that they're handing out generous free access just to get people using them. Tencent releasing HY3 completely free for weeks is part of that. Dozens of smaller providers offering free forever tiers through tools like Omni Root is part of that, too. It's a good window
