I Got Paid to Watch the World Cup (Mediaprobe Review)

[00:01] you to watch TV. I'm not talking about watching ads for a penny. I mean, real shows, sports, stuff you would actually watch. So, I signed up, they mailed me this little sensor, and I tested it out this month to find out two things.

[00:14] Number one, would they really pay? And number two, is it worth your time? So, let me show you exactly what happened. There are a few drawbacks and a few know about, too, which I'll get to in a moment. So, first up, MediaProbe, or m

[00:27] panel, as it's called in certain countries, is a media research company. How it works is you hold a uh small wireless sensor that measures your body's reaction, your galvanic skin response, they call it. Basically, tiny

[00:41] changes in your skin as you react to what you're watching. And then companies and TV networks pay MediaProbe for this data to see how audiences actually feel about their content. And then they uh in [music] theory pass along a portion of

[00:54] that income to viewers like you and me. The first drawback you need to know about is that MediaProbe is by application only. My guess is that's company in sending out these sensors, and they want to make sure their

[01:07] panelists meet the uh demographic and viewing habits that their clients are looking for, and that you'll actually participate once they send it to you. watch TV, sure, [music] I'm willing to jump through a few hoops. In my case, I

[01:20] even had to get on like a 5-minute call with their team to verify I was game to I'll drop the link below, but stick around because the earnings and the downsides you should probably hear first. Now, once you're approved for

[01:33] MediaProbe, you're going to start to get these session invitations in your inbox. Some of the ones I was invited to included uh Fear Factor, Top Chef, the Winter Olympics, Fox and Friends, and even a Mr. Beast YouTube video. And this

[01:46] is drawback number two. You don't get to pick. You can't just turn on the TV and expect them to pay you. It has to be one of their assigned shows, which I've been getting like five to 10 invites a month, but it still took a while to connect

[01:58] with one where I could commit to watching it at the given airtime. Now, each invite shows you how long you're supposed to watch and how much it pays. Generally, Media Probe offers about $5 per hour of watch time, sometimes a

[02:12] little bit higher, which isn't a bad gig if you were going to be watching anyways, but is never going to add up to a full-time income. That Mr. Beast video was actually the first one that I signed up for. You start the session in the

[02:25] Media Probe app. You attach these little electrode readers to the tracker. You stick the sensor on your hand, and then you leave it on for the duration. And help hold it on. Now, here's the third drawback you should know about. To

[02:38] verify that you're actually watching what you say you are, Media Probe asks you to enable the microphone on your phone so [music] we can hear the audio from the show and then sync that with your reaction data. Now, when the show's

[02:50] over, the app uploads your sensor data, and you usually have to answer a few questions, sometimes about what ads you remember seeing or what you liked or didn't like about what you just watched. I've gotten paid as soon as the next

[03:03] day, which brings me to drawback number four. At the time of this recording, Media Probe only pays in gift cards. Now, to their credit, they've got hundreds to choose from, but if you were hoping for direct cash to your bank or

[03:16] Venmo or PayPal, you're out of luck. I always end up picking Amazon because I know I can just add it to my account. I know I'll use it eventually. So, yes, Media Probe really does pay, which is pretty cool. Now, I actually had one

[03:28] session get denied cuz I didn't complete the full watch time. It was a World Cup match where I was supposed to leave the the post-game show on for like at least 30 minutes, and I probably cut it off after 10 or 15. A little warning in the

[03:40] you're about to quit your session early. Are you sure you want to do that?" But after I politely emailed customer support, they did end up crediting me well within their right to deny since technically I didn't follow their

[03:53] instructions. Now while you're in these sessions your screen shows these thumbs up thumbs down reaction buttons. So in addition to the biometric data that the little device is collecting you can literally smash that like button if you

[04:06] the US scored in that World Cup match I was like boom boom boom boom boom >> [laughter] >> smash the thumbs down. But the app does get kind of unhappy when you leave that screen for any reason. So it might make

[04:20] sense to install Media Probe on an old phone device you're no longer using so you can still text or otherwise use your main phone while you're watching. If you want to give it a shot not a lot of risk or cost associated with it. The

[04:34] application link is in the description below. In total I made 10 bucks from Mr. couple World Cup games and that's [music] the best advice I can give when it comes to Media Probe. Use it for the content you were going to watch anyway.
