AI Summary

In this emotional reaction video, a former competitive figure skater—who recently returned to the sport—watches Episode 17 of the anime 'Medalist' and breaks down Inori's championship performance. The creator also shares a personal update about winning a medal in her own recent competition, explaining how the show inspired her comeback.

[00:13]
Return to skating and medal win

The creator competed over the weekend and placed 4th, earning a medal in the US qualifying structure. She credits the show 'Medalist' and her audience with giving her the final push to return to competitive skating after many years away.

[02:44]
Anticipation for Episode 17

She avoided spoilers on Twitter because the previous episode ended on a cliffhanger with Inori about to compete. She predicts Inori will not skate clean but expects it to be enough to win.

[04:43]
Inori's joyful performance

She comments on Inori's genuine smile and joy on the ice. She notes Inori landed a triple loop and a triple salchow-double toe combination, a huge improvement from a few chapters earlier when she could barely land a triple-double combo.

[07:29]
The secret weapon: Euler combination

Inori's final jumping pass is a double Axel-Euler-triple Salchow in the second half. The Euler is a low-scoring half-loop jump, but it lets her add an extra triple, increasing the technical value. This strategy works in her favor because she performs the most difficult combination in the second half for bonus points.

[10:41]
Significance of the Kiss and Cry

The creator explains that the Kiss and Cry area is only present at high-level competitions. Every skater dreams of sitting there because it means they have reached a level where judges deliver scores in that special waiting area.

[12:30]
Emotional reflection on burnout

Watching Inori succeed brings up mixed emotions. The creator recalls hating skating at age 12 and hitting a wall at doubles, never advancing. She says this weekend's competition and the show have healed her relationship with the sport.

[17:31]
Setting up the All Japan showdown

Inori wins the event and qualifies for All Japan, where Hikatu—who previously scored 98 points—will be a major rival. The creator notes Inori will need even more difficult content to compete at that level.

[26:33]
Personal competition recap

The creator shares that she came in 4th, about 1.5 points from second place. She fell on a jump she never misses in practice, which she finds ironic given Inori's reliable 'secret weapon'. She is considering adding a double salchow for sectionals.

The video blends an expert figure skater's technical breakdown of an anime episode with a deeply personal story of returning to the sport. It highlights how the show's themes of love and perseverance mirrored and encouraged the creator's own comeback journey.

[00:01] that I can properly express my emotions when I say this, but I competed for the weekend and

[00:13] and I'm a medalist. thoughts since the competition. and I literally flew home just a few hours ago

[00:29] and I'm very tired. I haven't slept super well these past few days, but I'll just say that this weekend was an absolute whirlwind. It was amazing. I I'm going to talk a little bit more about it after I watch this episode

[00:44] because quite frankly, I am very, very, very excited to watch this episode. But very excited to watch this episode. But I do just want to say because this show has been such a huge part in my decision to come back to skating. If you remember

[00:59] um when I first started reacting to this series in January of last year, I was calling myself a former competitive figure skater and switched about halfway through because I realized I wanted to come back to it. And now I sit here a

[01:12] come back to it. And now I sit here a year later having my first medal in year later having my first medal in quite a while. And I think I I have a lot of reason to be thankful for Metalist and thankful for you guys who

[01:24] have been coming along on this journey with me that really kind of together really [music] inspired me to get back into it. I had been thinking about it for quite a while. I had been wanting to for quite a while, but I think this kind

[01:37] of experience that I'm having on here with this show and with all of you was the final little push that I needed to be like, "Hey, do it." like what do you have to lose? And it was nerve-wracking, but it was so much fun. It was so

[01:51] but it was so much fun. It was so exciting. It felt completely new and just very different from the way it was when I was younger in a good way. So, more about how it went. I don't have my professional video yet either, so you

[02:03] will see it. I just will post it when I get it. But I do just want to say before I get into today's episode, it's hard to put into words, but like thank you. I think the audience that is watching me on this as well as the show in general

[02:17] on this as well as the show in general has been a huge push for me to be here. talking about a competition if it weren't for this show. I I don't really think I would [snorts] be I don't think I would have gotten that big push that I

[02:30] So, I'm really happy to be back. I have another competition in just a few weeks qualifying. But, it was a really great start to my season and I'm really happy. start to my season and I'm really happy. Okay, but with that, hey everyone,

[02:44] another video. Today we are reacting to Metalist season 2 episode 4, which I think is episode 17 total. Of course, in the last episode we had a massive cliffhanger. In order was about to compete. I have been dying to watch

[02:58] this and post it on Twitter and I've been like, "No, no, no." Scrolling past cuz I do not want to see this until I watch it happen. I don't really know skate clean, but it's not gonna be enough to win, but it'll be enough to

[03:12] right now. That's what I think is going to happen. But yeah, I'm really excited going to dive right in. But before we do, don't forget to like this video,

[03:24] subscribe to the channel, and leave a comment your thoughts. Let's go. I'm this. Like, this is my own personal Olympics. It's not It's a very different feeling, but oh my goodness, I'm so excited to watch this. Fore warning, the

[03:38] tears are definitely coming. I I just know it. I'm so tired. I get even more emotional when I'm tired. So, I know I'm just going to be like, ascendants. Is she ascending to the top? I feel like that's a spoilery name. Here we go.

[03:52] that's a spoilery name. Here we go. Excited to see what happens here. Excited to see what happens here. Oh god. Okay.

[04:08] She's really progressed. Here we go. Holy moly. Okay. weapon? We're We're skipping this. I'm so sorry.

[04:21] I love the opening, but Okay, here we go.

[04:43] The joy she skates with is just so beautiful. Triple loop. Okay. Very nice. What's next? Triple S.

[04:57] Double toe. Yeah, she was just a few chapters ago in the manga like barely able to land a triple double combo.

[05:54] That definitely was a double. So, I think she's done what? Two triples and think she's done what? Two triples and two doubles.

[06:21] God, this like this choreography, it's just perfect.

[06:41] like it's a smile but it's not just like a there's like a genuine smile and then there's a I'm smiling because I was there's a I'm smiling because I was forced to and is just like so happy to

[06:53] forced to and is just like so happy to be out there. The judges can feel that

[07:05] I I think it's more than making the top five. five. Triple toe.

[07:29] This is our secret weapon. What is it?

[07:55] to triple sow. Double axle oiler. Triple sow. Come on. Come on. Come on. Yes.

[08:10] >> [laughter] [snorts] combos in the short to go clean, but she did the most difficult one in the second

[08:23] did the most difficult one in the second half.

[09:06] triple loop clean. Then she did a triple s double toe loop. Then she did a I think a double flip and a double lets. So that's four jumps, one combo. I might

[09:19] need a I I I I definitely think I'm going to do some breakdowns of these programs now. I I think I need to. And then the second half she did a solo triple toe and a double axle oiler triple sow. That's crazy. Yeah, she's

[09:35] triple sow. That's crazy. Yeah, she's winning this. So, her secret weapon was that last jump,

[09:47] with an oiler means that you're kind of giving up the three jump combo because the oiler is not worth that many points when you're doing triples, but it allowed her to do another triple. So, it ended up working in her favor in this

[10:02] situation. Good lord, you're a genius. >> [sighs]

[10:14] [snorts] >> She's just so happy.

[10:29] Scarsa needs to sit with her. Both of them.

[10:41] >> You've never been in Kiss and Cry before. Like every skater is like, man, I if I get to sit and kiss and cry, then that

[10:54] means I made it. Because most competitions don't have a kiss and cry. You have to get to like a pretty high level to get there.

[11:09] special. There's something that we like dream of just to sit in the Chris and dream of just to sit in the Chris and cry

[11:21] because here you are and I think you're winning this whole thing.

[11:43] more? I think she was the last one.

[12:17] I don't know why I'm crying over the fact that she won. I Okay, Inori.

[12:30] like this a little over a year after starting is absolutely insane and very main character energy, but there's also something to be said about just having so much love and passion for a sport and having a coach that truly believes in

[12:43] you cuz she was already talented when she started. You know, she already had that ability. That's what made Sucasa want to coach her was like she's really good. She's never taken lessons before, but she was obviously already very just

[12:58] almost crying because it's like I never got to experience what Ini is going through cuz when I got to those higher levels, I had lost my love for skating.

[13:11] Getting very personal. Um like my first regionals, I was 12 and I hated the sport. I didn't want to do it anymore. And you can see it in my face when you look at the pictures how sad I was. Um,

[13:26] sad I was. Um, [snorts]

[13:38] [laughter] [snorts] remember and kind of like feel jealous of me she's a fictional character, but it's like it's bringing me back to my past,

[13:53] tears because what I did this weekend was for that 12-year-old version of me that hated everything about the sport that just had hit a wall when she got to her doubles and never was able to get past that.

[14:07] And [sighs] this weekend felt that joy for a while since I started back up. But like my first competition like there were nerves but I was happy to be there. I was excited and

[14:23] I was having fun. So, we know getting here and and being able to believe in herself and having all this joy for the sport. It's like it's bringing up like very mixed emotions in me, I guess, because on one hand, like I'm following

[14:37] this story of this fictional character where she's like an absolute genius and just so far ahead what most normal people would be after a year of skating. you know, she has forced everyone to now know who she is. She's going into she's

[14:53] going to be able to do this as the champion of this event, which usually Hikadu goes into all Japans as the champion of this event. So, for her to be able to go into it like this, just to follow this and it it brings up a lot in

[15:10] me and you know, I never got to be the main character. I always was the girl in 12th place and 13th place in those big competitions, I never got anywhere. So watching you NY do it when she was able to hold on to that love, I guess. Like I

[15:26] able to hold on to that love, if I had people in my corner at that time that knew how to handle the the issues I was going through, would I have been able to do that? But now I can look back and

[15:39] having a fully healed relationship with this sport as a 29-year-old. I also can look back and say that was just a part of my story. So I don't know why just finding out that he know put me into this position, but here I am.

[15:59] missing. That's always got to be the worst.

[16:13] >> This is lots of new characters still getting introduced.

[16:36] >> [laughter] [snorts]

[17:04] You're all young. You have more in front of you.

[17:16] pass you up that you didn't even know of.

[17:31] She I mean a triple let's triple loop is a crazy combo for that level. So her by like a point. Not even or around a point. Yeah. So it's like just because

[17:44] Inori won this one with a clean program like doesn't mean that you can't go do a clean program at your at all Japans and beat her, you know? like this is just setting the stage for an even more crazy all Japans cuz Hikatu will be there too.

[17:58] [laughter] So, and the other girl I can't remember So, and the other girl I can't remember what her name was.

[18:24] competition go so well that you're like this was this happened right it's not a dream [snorts] [snorts] I love them so much

[18:36] I love them so much of course [snorts] and mother

[18:59] Yeah, it's actually insane what she's doing. [laughter] that's for sure. [laughter] [snorts]

[19:20] I see she gets her emotions from her father [laughter] cuz Hikota put up a 98 at all Japans, right?

[19:36] So, she's going to have to do something even more difficult.

[19:52] this, though. Everyone knows exactly who she is now. Everyone knows exactly who she is now. [snorts] Wow.

[20:25] Yeah, you're the coach of the champion. [laughter] >> [snorts]

[21:08] flowers to everyone. I guess specifically to those two. Two I guess specifically to those two. Two of them qualified.

[21:56] kinds of questions now. [laughter] That's like not normal.

[22:18] I don't think that's what he meant. [laughter]

[22:38] Sakaza does not know what to do. [laughter] students qualify. Yeah.

[23:01] trained by him, but I don't think people know that. Then that's only something we know that. Then that's only something we as an audience in Sicasa knows.

[23:21] >> Yeah. No one else knows that she's not really coached by him. Man, I really want to go eat. I really want to go eat now. I'm very hungry. want to go eat now. I'm very hungry. [snorts]

[23:36] My eyelashes are all wet. I had like an emotional breakdown, man. emotional breakdown, man. Holy moly.

[24:06] That is very intense and very dangerous.

[24:34] She always Wow. Okay, that's actually really smart to track cuz she's so comfortable in that jump that no matter where you put it, she'll that no matter where you put it, she'll land it.

[25:07] That is true. Like I talk about Inori Inori, but Sakasa is in his own rivalry now too. like he genuinely was challenged by June and now he wants to take that challenge on. He he wants to be like okay like okay if you you if you

[25:23] say like the only way he can beat Hikaru is by you beating me then I'll do it you know like he's got some skin in the game too I guess you could say cuz June was too I guess you could say cuz June was so dramatic.

[25:44] that so secretive. I feel [snorts] like there's more to that story.

[26:21] what they're doing? Interesting. Okay. Yeah, it's not super normal for like a coach to be like super secretive about coaching someone and it

[26:33] it's very abnormal. Okay, so that was episode 17. That was crazy. Um, breakdown over hearing, you know, what I get first. I think it's just one of

[26:45] get first. I think it's just one of those things where I I notice, you know, I the show brings out those emotions in me and it makes me think back to my me and it makes me think back to my past. And of course, like Inoi is very

[26:57] unrelatable because when I got to the point where I was doing these like super difficult competitions, it took a lot longer than a year for me to get there first of all. And cuz I started when I was six. So by the time I was skating

[27:14] for a year, I was like doing waltz jumps in competition. Like it's just like a completely different experience. And that's partially because this is an anime, partially because of the way the show is set up where she started old,

[27:29] you know, it's it's really there to show to show the story of someone who has to face that adversity, who has to face people kind of giving up on her before she can even start because she was 11. Yeah, I got very emotional. So, my

[27:42] competition though, so I came in fourth, like I said, fourth gets a medal because I'm in the US and top four gets a medal because of our qualifying structure. Um, I did fall on a jump, even though I was going for clean, which was kind of

[27:55] on the jump that I did, which is kind of, it's actually kind of funny to think about what Sicasa was saying about like her secret weapon being a jump that she never misses in practice. The jump I fell on in competition yesterday was a

[28:09] fell on in competition yesterday was a jump that I never miss. [laughter] So, it was kind of interesting, honestly. But, it was, you know, stuff like that happens. So, it is it is what it is. But I felt really good. I have

[28:22] another competition in a few weeks. There was a girl in my group who is she put up a score 10 points higher than the national champion put up last year in national champion put up last year in our level.

[28:36] So, you know, I um she's going to go on to win sectionals. She's going to go on to win nationals, which is fine. And I'm fighting for second. And I was actually kind of close to second here. I was

[28:50] about a point and a half off of it and considering I only had two single axles, uh, that's pretty good. [laughter] Um, I was the only one who went out jumps. So, you know, it it kind of depends. Um, I'm going back and forth on

[29:06] asking my coach whether or not we can add a double s to my program for sectionals just to to have a double jump in there and see what happens. It's getting slightly more consistent in practice, but that's kind of where I'm

[29:18] at right now. Um, yeah, it was really good. It just made me very emotional. It good. It just made me very emotional. It made me very excited to be back and I definitely was like, I really want to keep doing this. So, I'm very, very

[29:34] happy to be back. And I think one of the reasons why I got so emotional watching this episode and like recalling of my past and like almost feeling jealousy towards you know was because like it's very at the forefront of my brain right

[29:48] now of just being like oh my gosh like I'm back in this. This is my life again you know. So anyway be on the lookout once I get the professional video. I'll probably post it as like its own separate video. So definitely be on the

[30:01] lookout for that. I don't know if I have anything else to add. I do I I feel like today I was so tired and also just so whirlwind that I I need to go back and I did and I need to probably do a breakdown of like all the competitive

[30:16] episodes. Definitely not going to be able to do that this week, but we'll see. We'll see what happens. But be on the lookout. That that'll come at some point, I'm sure. Um I think that's all I'm going to say. This felt very

[30:30] disjointed, but you know, I I feel like you guys like those kinds of videos. So, you guys like those kinds of videos. So, um, yay.

[30:42] the channel, and leave a comment your thoughts. I will see you all in the next thoughts. I will see you all in the next one. M.
