GX vs Grenadier: Price Shock
56sDirect price comparison with surprising used market values sparks buyer interest and debate.
▶ Play Clip"Solid comparison that delivers on the promised head-to-head, though the title is a bit vague."
This video compares the Lexus GX 550 Overtrail Plus and the INEOS Grenadier, two off-road SUVs with similar pricing but radically different design philosophies. The GX prioritizes luxury and on-road comfort, while the Grenadier is a rugged, purpose-built off-roader that sacrifices refinement for capability. The comparison covers price, interior space, off-road performance, on-road behavior, and overall value.
Both vehicles start around $70,000, with the Ineos starting just over $70k and the GX in the high $60s. Fully loaded, they are around $90k. Used Ineos models are in the $60s, while GX Overtrails rarely drop below $70k.
With rear seats up, cargo space is similar, but with seats down, the GX offers nearly 20 cubic feet more (90 vs. 70). The GX also has 5-6 inches more second-row legroom.
The GX is a luxury off-road SUV with leather, wood, massaging seats, and a Mark Levinson audio system. The Ineos is purposely compromised for ruggedness: drain plugs, waterproof switches, hard touch materials, and leatherette Recaro seats designed to be hosed down.
The Ineos features all physical controls, including toggle switches for off-road functions, designed for use with gloves. The GX uses more traditional luxury controls and touchscreens.
INEOS plans to keep the Grenadier in production for 20 years, while the GX typically has a 5-10 year lifecycle.
The Ineos has an outdated iDrive reskin, a broken lane-keep system, and a gauge cluster only in the center screen. Software stability is also a concern.
The GX has 9.7 inches of ground clearance, can ford 27-28 inches of water, and features E-KDSS (electromechanical sway bar disconnect) and adaptive dampers.
The GX uses a twin-turbo V6 with 349 hp and 479 lb-ft, paired with a 10-speed automatic, and can tow over 9,000 lbs.
The Ineos targets only 35 ECUs (vs. typical 60), uses recirculating ball steering, solid axles front and rear, and a Tremec transfer case. It has over 10 inches of ground clearance and can ford over 30 inches of water.
The Ineos uses a BMW B58 inline-six (low output for reliability) and a ZF 8-speed automatic. It gets better fuel economy than the GX and tows around 8,000 lbs. A diesel option is available elsewhere.
The Ineos has better ground clearance, fording depth, approach/departure angles, and wheel articulation. It also has a solid front axle and locking differentials front and rear.
Choose the Ineos if you want the ultimate off-roader and accept on-road compromises. Choose the GX if you need a more balanced vehicle for daily driving with occasional off-road use.
The Lexus GX and INEOS Grenadier cater to different buyers despite similar price points. The GX is a refined luxury SUV capable off-road, while the Grenadier is a pure off-road tool that sacrifices on-road comfort. Your choice depends on your primary use case and tolerance for compromise.

Divergent Design Philosophies
Highlights how two vehicles at similar prices can be built for completely different purposes: luxury vs. ruggedness.
02:14Off-Road Metrics Favor Ineos
The Grenadier outperforms the GX in every objective off-road metric, showing that purpose-built design wins off-road.
19:19Grenadier as the 'Miata of Off-Road'
Describes the Grenadier as a pure, fun off-road toy for enthusiasts, not a daily driver.
25:11GX Drivetrain Criticism
The twin-turbo V6 gets worse fuel economy than the B58 and feels labored, a notable flaw in an otherwise refined vehicle.
30:44'Know Thyself' Verdict
Summarizes the core advice: choose based on your primary use case, as no vehicle does everything perfectly.
28:38[00:10] between the Ineos Grenadier and our long-term Lexus GX Overtrail Plus. This is a part of our GX versus everything series. So, let's talk about price first. The Ineos and the Lexus GX are remarkably close in starting price. The
[00:25] Ineos starts just over 70, where a base model GX is in the very high 60s. An Overtrail's in the mid-70s. A reasonably well-equipped Ineos with the rough pack
[00:37] or their more off-road focused base trim level is highish 70s, low 80s, depending on how you configure it. And then fully loaded an Ineos Grenadier with all the luxury bits and all the off-road tidbits is just over 90, where a GX is in the
[00:51] very high 80s. Very similar. If you're looking at used prices, early Ineoses, here in the US are basically 2024 models, and they're in the 60s regardless of sort of mileage, which means you can get into an Ineos for less
[01:06] money than a GX because current gen generation GXs, particularly Overtrails, have crazy residual values. I've not seen any of them below like $70,000. Now, from a usability side of things, while these look very similar on paper,
[01:19] both of them are two-row SUVs, the actual amount of space you have in both vehicles are very different. With the rear seats up or the second row up in the GX and the Ineos, you have similar cargo capacity. The GX eeks it out by a
[01:31] couple cubic feet. However, with the second row down, the GX has nearly 20 cubic feet more total cargo capacity. You're looking at around 90 in the GX, just over 70 in the Ineos. That same story carries over to legroom. You have
[01:45] like 5 or 6 inches more second row legroom in the GX than you do in the Ineos. And when it comes to seating position, the Ineos takes a much different approach. The Ineos has you seated as close to the windows as
[01:59] visibility, where the GX interior philosophy is far more traditional Past the way they look and sort of their basic mission, they could not be a more different set of vehicles from what they're trying to accomplish in the real
[02:14] world and their design philosophy. Lexus is trying to build a Lexus off-road body-on-frame vehicle. It is still luxury good. The interior is not particularly rugged. It is leather, wood. It has massaging seats in the
[02:27] overtrail plus, a Mark Levinson audio system, heated and cooled seats, all the latest tidbits when it comes to Lexus safety screens, touch controls. It is a luxury SUV. And because of that, the GX is 5 dB quieter, which is an enormous
[02:44] difference at highway speeds. They're not remotely comparable when it comes to the luxury experience. However, the Ineos is a purpose-built, purposely compromised off-road vehicle. They did not want to be a Lexus or a BMW or a
[03:00] current generation Land Rover. They focused on making this as ruggedized as possible. So, you have drain plugs in the floor. You have weatherproofed them and they sound truly dreadful. You have hard touch materials everywhere.
[03:14] And all of these switch gear, essentially from the screen down, are gasketed to be water resistant or waterproof. You can essentially hose down this interior space. The Recaro seats are this leatherette material.
[03:26] They're meant to get dirty, wet. They are meant to be fairly resistant to scratching and staining. And because of that, they don't necessarily breathe comfortable, but again, they've made compromises in the the sake of
[03:40] durability. Their focus on making everything feel physical and tactile and work with gloves is deeply commendable. All the controls are physical and purpose and purposeful. All the off-road controls are above you on toggle
[03:54] switches. Easy to get at, they don't move, and it should keep this interior relevant for a long period of time. Unlike the GX, which will probably have between a 5 to 10-year life cycle, Ineos is telling me that they are planning on
[04:07] keeping the Grenadier around for like 20 years if they can. The other interesting thing about the Ineos [music] are the safari windows. They can be raised and be removed if you want, which it does not help with sound deadening, but also
[04:19] adds a nice whimsical and functional touch to this off-road vehicle. The other thing I'm going to bring about the Ineos is it's not without its quirks. controls and getting into drive modes are great, the two primary that you can
[04:32] get into are off-road and wading. Off-road is essentially turning off all it's a two-hit switch, and then you're in off-road mode, and it changes your and some of the other off-road base functions. And when you hit wading, it's
[04:47] for exactly that, going through deep water. It shuts off your auxiliary fan on the front, and it makes sure the stability and safety suites don't have a meltdown when you're fording through over 30 inches of water. However,
[05:00] it as a more street-based cars, you're going to notice some of the quirks. You have a very old reskin version of iDrive, which has reasonable stability, but not the most intuitive. The safety suite in this car is not that advanced.
[05:14] assist you're looking for, and its lane keep function is essentially broken. It does not work well, grabs the wheel very aggressively, very annoying. You're don't have a traditional gauge cluster, everything's in the screen. So, you have
[05:27] going, what your speedometer uh what your tachometer is doing, and of course, you do have to look down relatively often to see what the hell's happening. And when it comes to overall stability of all the software, there are going to
[05:41] be quirks living with the Ineos, where in the case of the GX, it's a more of a traditional vehicle, everything seems to work the first time where again, Ineos So that we're going to head in the shop and walk you through some of the
[05:53] and walk you through some of the technical differences with Mark. >> [laughter] >> That thing's going to be gone for like
[06:05] somehow make me do more comparisons with it. >> All right, before we talk about the Ineos, let's re-summarize the GX. Tell >> [laughter] >> In the Tahara plant.
[06:18] >> Oh, man. >> Made by the master craftsman at Toyota. That was a truck that the Japanese developed to be the next generation, or actually probably the generation for about next 30 years in that thing.
[06:32] the platform. >> The TNGA-F, which is their truck platform that is scaled out across Sequoia, Land Cruiser, Tundra, everything that is body-on-frame is that platform. The frame has been
[06:46] redesigned. Basically, the entire truck is brand new for the GX. The GX gets all of the luxurification stuff that you expect, more NVH material, more isolation. You get E-KDSS, which is their disconnecting
[07:03] electromechanical versus the hydraulic unit of old. Eight and you get AVS dampers, adaptive dampers. So, it's a better balance of street and off-road >> while giving you the luxury features. >> It's more luxury on-road, but like
[07:19] they're trying to find the perfect compromise. >> It has a independent front suspension. It has a live axle in the back. It has a center torsion locking differential with an electronic diff in the back of that
[07:31] vehicle. It has 9.7 inches of ground clearance. It can forward like 27 inches or 28 inches of water. What you need to know is in every objective off-road metric, it does not perform as well as the Ineos, but what it does do better is
[07:46] compliant. It's all the things you're expecting. And for the sake of our video and just the sake of everyone's time, it's on a set of Bridgestone Dueler A/T all-terrain tires. >> Mastery of all domains. [laughter] And
[08:00] inches? Cuz you just keep bringing up bigger and bigger inches. >> I Instead, I'm going to talk about engines next, Mark. Sorry. I know I'm going to disappoint you. This has the Toyota factory twin-turbo V6 that
[08:13] underpins basically all of their truck-based full-size vehicles, including the Tundra. Versus the Tundra, it has smaller turbos, so they're faster reacting. Makes 349 horsepower, 479 foot pounds of torque. It puts the power down
[08:26] through a 10-speed automatic Toyota gearbox. And it tows more than the Ineos. It tows over 9,000 pounds, which is a lot of poundage, Mark. of ATVs. >> All right, Mark. Now we're going to talk
[08:40] >> I I can't tell. Are we in the back here or in the front? Mark. >> That sounds like it's about 100 years >> Well, in the future, we're going to be doing a deep dive on the pickup truck
[08:52] Quartermaster. We're going to hear directly from some Ineos folks, but I'm going to summarize some of the the key things right off the bat. Uh this is vehicle on this brand, Ineos itself, the truck or SUV variant or division of it,
[09:05] was founded by a gentleman named Sir Jim with two other very wealthy partners. Jim Ratcliffe is either the first or second wealthiest man from the United Kingdom. And when the new Defender came out, he was
[09:17] like, "This thing's too weak. Doesn't have my jawline. It's too soft." And he asked Land Rover if he could buy the rights to the old Defender. They said >> [laughter] >> and built his own SUV.
[09:30] you're just like, "You know what? I'm going to do whatever I want, when from the old Sean Connery days. >> the story was the best part about this thing. He was at a bar his pub locally next to the corporate office and he was
[09:45] yachts and he's like, "I need a new >> yachts, his super yachts. like He's like, "What else is going on?" I'm like, "I need to build a truck." And >> His yacht designer. >> his yacht designer like, "Yeah, that's a
[09:57] truck. It's easy compared to a yacht." [laughter] So he drew out a sketch and but that's really other than the money >> bought a factory. already Yeah, so Mercedes had a factory that
[10:09] like, "I'll buy it and all the people." >> The core philosophy behind this is an as rugged as possible. He didn't give two shits about the compromises. On-road, he wanted basically an old vehicle that is built today and he tried
[10:23] to minimize his already massive costs by using as many off-the-shelf parts as possible and he wanted to simple simplify things like ECUs. Anywhere he could reduce the number of ECUs, he would. It has a more traditional gas
[10:36] tank style relay. Doesn't have automatic ups for the for the windows. Doesn't start. It doesn't have heated well or cooled possible. >> like typical like if you look at average
[10:52] luxury cars that are on existing like CAN bus, they're in the like 60s, high 50s or 60 ECUs. And I mean that's that's a misnomer, but they tried to get it down in the 30s. So it's like 35 and I mean there's still some hiccups here and
[11:05] >> And so did I. >> Again, this is it's Again, it was smart engineering. Like you they could have gone like network over Ethernet and just add like one central ECU and then been like Volvo where
[11:18] >> So I think it was smart, you know, to your point. Like just hats off to them trying to to keep things simple for a vehicle like this. >> So it is a steel frame that has been basically wax coated. The idea with
[11:32] chassis is they want you to be able to fix it if you're in Africa on a safari. It has solid axles front and rear. It has a transfer case from Tremec. It has over 10 in of ground clearance. It has more articulation than the GX. It can
[11:46] forward over 30 in of water. Yeah, I know. I I'm getting you all excited. It does not have adaptive dampers. It is a relatively simple vehicle. And it even has recirculating ball steering, where in the case of the
[11:58] they want to recirculating ball, which is very slow to self-center. There's lots of compromises on road, but it's supposed to give you more feedback easier to control off-road as well. These are all the pros of this. The
[12:12] drivetrain though, Mark, is the next thing I want to talk about. That is the B58. And we all know my love of the B58. And that, of course, is why we're going to talk about the sponsor for this segment of our show, known as Surfshark.
[12:25] >> [music] >> I want to love the B58 on my own time. When I look at B58 images, I write my fan fic [music] online. I want it to be mine. I don't want corporations to take my identity and and steal that time away
[12:40] from me and my B58. So, with a with a VPN like Surfshark, I can be safe. I can >> On 4chan? >> On 4chan when I'm writing my B58 fan [laughter] fics. Yeah, between me and the chief engineer in space designing
[12:54] allows me to do. And [music] of course, Mark, don't don't don't worry. They have a 30-day money-back guarantee if you are still caught online writing fan fic is four-cylinder engines. Is there anything else you need to know
[13:08] >> Yeah, I want to know if I can go to Zimbabwe and stream your your special >> Well, you can. With a with the VPN, Mark, you can you can surf content
[13:21] outside of your specific region freely. >> Jack's only fans account, uh >> believe it or not is him in bed with a B58 >> [laughter] >> with a hollowed out oil passage barrel.
[13:49] segment and talk about what this what we need to. All right. So the Grenadier has two different drivetrain options. It has a B58 which is of course what I love. It's an inline six from BMW single turbo and unlike what you're probably used to
[14:02] in the luxury variants, it is a low output version of this. They wanted to output version of this. They wanted to keep it reliable so it's a sub 6000 RPM They've tried to tune it for a little bit more
[14:14] low end. Torque is an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox and then in other markets not ours, you can get the diesel variant of the B58 known as the B57. Do you want even more torques, Mark?
[14:27] And it tows a little less than 8000 lb or thereabouts. So is there anything >> Now I want to drive this thing. I'm pretty excited for it. >> All right Mark, let's head to the Shire. >> [music]
[14:49] welcome to the Shire. >> Yes, John and Sig have let us drive all >> I hear you made your feet even hairier. >> I know. I grew some extra hair on my feet to experience the Grenadier which I had no idea existed until it showed up.
[15:03] >> [laughter] >> So let's drive it. This is powered as many of us know by the B58. Ground squirrels. there there are ground squirrels everywhere. Real farm animals.
[15:19] >> Yeah, besides me. Now I know why this showed up. I was thinking like why are why is the why is this here? And uh BMW drivetrain, we talked about it in the shop. You know, we talked about what
[15:31] this is and my first impressions when I drove it, I was super super surprised at how much I like this thing. I mean, I shouldn't like it. It's totally against what I want, but I love the purity and design.
[15:44] You know, you realize that the GX and all these other kind of off-roady things like the Jeeps, they they're so compromised to have to do so much on-road that it loses the things that this can do better.
[15:57] The interior layout, you know, it's like everything is so purpose-built to go off-road. The toggles, the controls, you feel a great sense of visibility in this and it sacrifices a lot on-road. Like on the regular pave on regular pavement to
[16:14] to do what we're doing, which is basically light-duty driving. >> This is as as extreme as it gets. >> Yeah. We're we're based at Yeah, no, this is hyper extreme. This is more extreme than the Costco runs that most
[16:26] extreme than the Costco runs that most people will do. But this was designed by it's a benefactor to >> the fellowship of rich men. Yeah. >> When he's not on his yacht, he wants to be able to safari and have his own
[16:39] vehicle that does all the pure things without killing you in terms of price and complexity. And that's why I really like this and you might be able to argue they're not going to have all the things sorted out with it like some of the fine
[16:51] print stuff of electronics and some of the the quality control might not be there compared to a like a Lexus, but this isn't supposed to be the primary do everything off-road SUV. It's supposed to be like a Miata is for someone that
[17:06] has a primary car and they want to have fun. This is that second off-road vehicle that is not a joke. It's not gimmicky. It's supposed to be completely like solid and reliable. Um and that's what I really like about
[17:19] stuff, which I have already discussed a lot of that in the shop. The reality part is while this for me be uh the owner of this company, maybe his his
[17:32] will be using this not as their primary vehicle. If you had to use this $90,000 like on the road? >> Well, there's a couple of things that bother me about it. Uh and it didn't take long
[17:46] for it to to get to that point, but the steering is definitely fatiguing. >> Yeah, it's not it doesn't have a an ability to return to center, so you have keep my hands at the bottom on the street, it's way less fatiguing than I
[18:00] keep at the top than if I keep them at the top. A lot of it has to do with the personally. Even getting the seat up, keeping my hands up here, you're constantly making micro corrections, and if you do it at the
[18:13] bottom, it's good. If you keep it at the side, there's not enough like leverage to turn it, right? [laughter] It's like the the turning radius is definitely more suited for off-road, but on the street, it gets fatiguing again. And
[18:26] I'm hitting the voice command button or like the infotainment button. So, some sorted out, but it's things that I've gotten used to. >> It's actually really good. The platform's really solid, and you feel it
[18:40] on the street. Yes, it's a truck first, and I'm okay with that. Like I'm really okay with that. I like the fact that, you know, the GX is trying to have this refinement and trying to do everything, and it's not perfect at both.
[18:55] Yes, the GX is you know, as you're going to talk about, is the superior road car, but I do truly feel that the character of this, the the reality is is it it is
[19:07] so pure in its design and its controls and how you do things, I prefer it because it is a toy, right? Like it it is that toy that you can use on the
[19:19] hands down this is way better. >> have more ground clearance, can ford more water, it tows only marginally less, you have better approach and departure angle, it has a solid axle, which obviously you notice when you're
[19:31] driving around in the same in the front, but and honestly, again, joke of the video, but I think this drivetrain is vastly superior to >> how good it is, right? You We joke around how the B58 and like performance
[19:45] >> hearing this B58, but yes, continue. >> But now with it being modified slightly and detuned and you know, how they've calibrated it it the the trans is so smooth, the the gearbox performance and how it shifts, you never feel it, it's
[19:59] not abrupt, it doesn't hang, it doesn't like buck at you and surge and the engine is just tremendous. Even with the size and weight of it, it's like >> And it gets better fuel economy than the GX despite being a brick.
[20:11] >> It's unbelievable, right? I mean, it's crazy and I think they made the right the things they need to fix are like just nuances of manufacturing improvements, interior design. This is a a home run for the price point. I really
[20:25] these, I'm like, oh god, how much are they going to gouge people for this off-road experience? I thought it was going to be like $150,000. And for where if you're you're on the budget side and you get
[20:39] deal. Like it's so cool. >> things for 60 grand used, which I mean, of 10 times over a Wrangler. If I'm willing to be like, hey, I want to go real off-road, I don't care about the luxury part of the GX driving
[20:54] the changes they made for '26, a lot of people complain about the steering in the past. While it is not superb and yes, some of the infotainment bongs and >> Yeah, that's like a Gran Turismo menu screen every time you like lane deviate
[21:08] and all that. But these are again, these are subtle things. And you know you're getting an off-road vehicle here. So, the steering to me, truthfully, you get used to it and it it's one of those that is just part of the experience of this
[21:21] that you don't get with other vehicles. Like I don't need my off-roader to be >> amazing off-road. >> Yes. And that's what this does. You don't need it to have the compromises of the GX. Because the GX is so refined,
[21:35] you feel the deficiencies of it more than you do with this. mom, I want to experience Akyo Toyota's finest. None of this German English nonsense. True Japanese steel next,
[21:49] Mark. >> Thank you, Jack. Take me for a ride. anyos or the B58, Mark. This wasn't blessed by Jim. This is blessed by Akyo.
[22:07] >> Who's that? >> Someone who gave me more horsepowers and more torque, more gears, worse fuel economy. And look, as you talked about
[22:19] this a little shorter. This is for somebody who is looking for a off-roader that is also going to spend most of its life on the street. And the
[22:31] that you weren't going to buy this. It's not necessarily the third or second car What it has deficiencies in going off-road, it makes up for by being a more compliant, more luxurious, honestly
[22:46] probably more reliable, at least in the short term till anyos figures out all of their, you know, quirks when it comes to building and build quality and all of that, vehicle that you're probably going to enjoy more on the road. It is several
[23:00] >> Yep. >> It is far more maneuverable on the street. It has regular EPAS, you know, rack and pinion steering versus recirculating ball, but it is far more compromised than the NEOS is in being
[23:15] sort of everything. It's not a great luxury SUV as we beat to death at this point, and it's not necessarily the best off-roader, though it is deeply capable. >> I think that's that's really what you appreciate about this is how they've
[23:27] gotten to this point of trying to make something that can do everything while vehicle, like your only family vehicle, right? And to do that is very, very hard. And you're not going to check
[23:40] every single boxes every single box that you would possibly want to do for a luxury off-roader, but it is really close. I think from you know, seeing think the most crybaby thing that I've seen
[23:54] is, "Well, it's super expensive. It still gets shitty fuel economy. Just give me a V8 back and I'd be happy, right?" To me, that's kind of more and more and more around it. Like if you're going to give me that crummy
[24:07] fuel economy, I want the I want the refinement of the V8 and the character back. Because this thing does everything so well, and our What really sold me on this was our drive in the winter when we put it in kind of like an off-road
[24:19] >> Against the Defender. >> Defender. You realize how well balanced this thing is, how amazingly it turns and rotates and gets through all of that. Yes, you said in the shower but it doesn't have the outright ground
[24:32] >> Or the approach and departure angle and the solid rear axles and all that. >> But it makes up for it from the fact that it can release its sway bars, releasing that, and they've sorted so much stuff out where I
[24:45] really appreciate how refined this is just doing this. mostly don't notice it. But again, back-to-back with the Grenadier, there's with the Grenadier when you get back on the payment, and
[24:59] choice. It just depends on where you're coming from. If you want to like a dedicated, like we're talking about, a Miata of your off-road experience, the Grenadier is that, and it looks like retro future.
[25:11] >> Yeah, I feel like I should be on safari. >> Yeah, no, 100%. It makes you feel like just picking up a few fish filets [laughter] at McDonald's, you know? This together, and this is going to be better for 90% of people that are looking for
[25:26] this. But, like for me, I'd rather have the Grenadier. off-roaders are interesting, right, in that feel like at least where we live in the Chicagoland area,
[25:38] you they're largely maybe driven in the winter, the 'burbs. This is about as extreme of off-roading as you're ever going to do, >> Yeah, that's true. >> So,
[25:50] Grenadier. >> coolness of the Grenadier. >> Yeah, like you're on a peacekeeping mission somewhere on the African subcontinent or something. Yeah, it's it that is a far cooler vehicle. I think
[26:03] right? That takes, while there are electromechanical systems, a lot of it is more, let's call it, mechanical than electromechanical. They've taken the less ECUs approach, simplistic approach, and this is like Lexus's version of less
[26:17] use electromechanical systems to try to make it do everything. E-KDSS means it has stiffer bars for the street, and then disconnects them on the uh on uh better articulation. You have adaptive dampers, which allows it to firm up and
[26:29] soften, depending on what you're doing. More gears, you know, massaging seats, Mark Levinson audio system, all of the luxury stuff. They're trying to to use the electromechanical systems to allow you to do more of both, where again, the
[26:43] keep it simple stupid mentality of the Grenadier, I think, honestly, is cooler. >> Yeah, I think what it does is it blends So, you have like the the Range Rover everything, right? You ain't fixing that thing. This kind of splits the
[26:55] difference between giving you some automation, but still like tried and true. And >> Oh, yeah, the turkey. Turkey time. >> Yes. >> So, the the Grenadier kind of takes this
[27:11] you're in control of the systems, right? By having them the just the control of every single aspect of it, even though a lot of it is automated. I Again, these character, um and it depends what you like. I mean,
[27:26] it's a it's a really really hard that the Lexus is a known quantity. It's going to hold its value and it should be pretty much bomb-proof, assuming the engine doesn't give up. So, I mean,
[27:40] >> B58 or is it whatever the hell this thing is called? >> No, Mark, what it is is Bridgestone Dueler Ascent AT tire. >> Oh, yeah. >> Oh, Bridgestone.
[27:57] the Ineos [music] Grenadier. First off, huge thanks to our title sponsor, this would not be possible. So, if you're looking to support this channel, go buy yourself some Bridgestone tires. Or you could buy some Dueler Ascent ATs,
[28:10] the very tires we've had on our Lexus GX long-termer for almost 30,000 mi. They tremendous in the snow. They're great off-road. And for an all-terrain tire, they're very civilized on the highway. Of course, thanks to our Ineos reps and
[28:24] and Jen from Lexus have been great to work with. So, what about the cars themselves? Well, let's go back to the old Socrates expression, know thyself. your essentially 80, 90,000 dollar
[28:39] If you are looking for the ultimate off-roader, you buy the Ineos. If you're looking for something that's going to be doing more road duty than off-road, you does. It is superior off-road in basically every metric. It is a better
[28:53] more ground clearance. It can ford more water. It has better wheel articulation. And it is really benefited from its very, let's call it, extreme by modern very, let's call it, extreme by modern SUV standards SUV body structure. Ladder
[29:08] frame, solid axles front and rear, lockers front and rear. And of course, day one. It also has a more ruggedized interior mud. You could hose it all down. It has drain plugs like you'd find in something
[29:21] like a Jeep. And of course, the vibes based part of this comparison cooler looking, I will give to the Ineos. It is a very neat vehicle. It
[29:33] looks like an old Defender by design, of course. And its purity of design and conquer the African Sahara basically immediately when you're in this thing, which is very, very cool. Obviously, where it has a lot of deficiencies is
[29:48] on-road. It is worse packaged in the interior space. As bad as the GX is, there's even less usable, at least, front occupant space in the Ineos than there is in the Lexus. It is far noisier on the inside. It's an easy 5 dB louder
[30:00] than the GX, which is an enormous difference. If you don't care about the does very, very well. The case of the GX, it takes, let's call it, a more balanced approach in in some ways. It has a full luxury SUV interior,
[30:15] seats, a far better audio system. It's quieter. There's leather everywhere. Um, It better It handles better on the street with the adaptive dampers or with better on the street. And you have about a billion cameras to keep you safe
[30:31] off-road along with all of the off-road drive modes, which do work. It also has the benefit of potentially, at least for the foreseeable future, having a much, much higher residual value than the Grenadier. So, in theory, it should also
[30:44] cost you less to buy and own. Its primary deficiency, at least in the driving experience versus the Ineos, is the drivetrain itself. I've never liked the twin-turbo V6 in the Lexus products. I still don't like it in the GX. It gets
[30:57] worse fuel economy somehow than what the the Ineos gets by 2 to 3 mi per gallon in the real world, um despite being faster off the line and uh clearly being a much peppier drivetrain more power, it feels even more labored than the B58. It
[31:13] just it doesn't suit the character of the GX 550. So, that, again, what you're going to want to buy is going to come down to you're willing to make a lot of compromises on road for the ultimate
[31:26] Ineos. In the case of the Lexus, you're going to buy that because it's a better on-road vehicle and it's at this point thanks for watching. Hope to see you again soon.
[31:38] Stay broad. The B58 engine. Aliens gave it to us. Don't you see the truth? It's it to us. Don't you see the truth? It's all connected. They saved us.
