Xbox Backward Compatibility on PC
44sGamers love nostalgia and new features, so the announcement of classic Xbox games coming to PC with enhanced graphics will drive massive interest and debate.
▶ Play ClipThe IGN Daily Fix for July 23rd covers two major announcements: Microsoft's launch of Xbox backward compatibility on PC, allowing classic console games to be played on Windows and handheld devices, and Marvel Studios' long-term movie plans extending to 2042, including the introduction of live-action Miles Morales and a streamlined post-Secret Wars universe.
Microsoft announced Xbox backward compatibility on PC, enabling classic console games to be played on PC and handhelds like the Xbox L I X. The program started with an early preview featuring four titles: Blinx: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live & Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fusion Frenzy.
Owners of the four games automatically receive a PC license. The titles will also be added to Xbox Game Pass for PC Game Pass or Ultimate subscribers, and can be streamed via Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Xbox hardware architect Jason Ronald announced features including up to 4x resolution upscaling, VSync support, full screen and windowed display modes, and enhanced anti-aliasing. Achievements will be added later this year.
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige revealed that Marvel has mapped out movies up to 2042, with a focus on a streamlined universe post-Avengers: Secret Wars, including a big push for X-Men and a live-action Miles Morales.
Feige described Secret Wars as both a conclusion to storylines from before the MCU and a new beginning, establishing a simplified single universe. He contrasted it with Endgame, calling it a beginning rather than an end.
Feige discussed plans for the X-Men, noting the franchise's 10 previous movies, and confirmed that a live-action Miles Morales is planned after the Spider-Verse series ends. He mentioned ongoing discussions for multiple future Spider-Man movies.
The Daily Fix highlights Microsoft's expansion of backward compatibility to PC, bringing classic Xbox games to a wider audience, and Marvel's ambitious roadmap through 2042, signaling a new era for the MCU with streamlined storytelling and beloved characters like X-Men and Miles Morales.
"Title accurately reflects the main story; the video delivers exactly what it promises."

04:03[00:01] coming to you from IGN Studio here at San Diego Comic-Con. For today's Daily Fix, we have Xbox adds backward compatibility to PC and Marvel has movies planned all the way up to 2042. This is your Daily Fix.
[00:31] Epic Universe. >> [snorts] >> Microsoft has announced Xbox backward compatibility on PC allowing you to play classic console games on PC and handheld such as the Xbox L I X for the first
[00:46] The program began yesterday with an early preview containing support for four titles. Blinx: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live & Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fusion Frenzy. Anyone who owns these games already will
[01:00] automatically have a license granted on PC. The four games will also be added to Xbox Game Pass for those with a PC Game Pass or Ultimate subscription. And of course, you'll be able to stream the titles via Xbox Cloud Gaming allowing
[01:15] you to play them on pretty much any rig. Xbox hardware architect Jason Ronald wrote in an announcement blog post that this update includes quote up to four times resolution upscaling, VSync support, full screen and window
[01:29] displayed modes, enhanced anti-aliasing, and more. Finally, while unavailable today, Microsoft will add achievements to these games and future Xbox backward compatibility on PC titles via an update later this year. Marvel Studio boss
[01:45] Kevin Feige says they have mapped out movie plans up to 2042 hinting at a streamlined simplified universe post-Avengers Secret Wars. This
[01:57] includes a big push for the new X-Men and plans to eventually unveil a live-action Miles Morales. Speaking to Chinese outlet Watching Hollywood during a recent tour of Shanghai, Feige described this year's Avengers Doomsday
[02:10] and next year's Avengers Secret Wars as a conclusion to storylines that started before the MCU itself, such as the fates of the original X-Men. At the same time, Feige also contrasted Secret Wars with
[02:24] the climactic Avengers: Endgame, suggesting that 2027's blockbuster would act as a new beginning for the franchise as well as a conclusion for the multiverse saga. He said, "Avengers: Endgame was truly an end, and since then
[02:39] we've tried and experimented with many new things, but it is a beginning. It will establish a streamlined, simplified, single universe that audiences can keep up with. Some things will be familiar, but many, many things
[02:52] will be entirely new." He continued, "We were just in a Marvel Studios meeting room planning movies all the way up to 2042. We're constantly changing, constantly evolving, but having some guidance helps
[03:05] us act more purposefully. Especially with X-Men, it's already had 10 movies. Some very, very good. Some I think haven't lived up to expectations. How do we plan the great mutant saga in a very grand way?" Marvel is set to make a
[03:20] splash at this weekend's San Diego Comic-Con, returning to Hall H for the first time in 2 years ahead of this month's hugely anticipated Spider-Man: Brand New Day and this December's Avengers: Doomsday. Fans are hoping that
[03:34] alongside more details on both of those, Feige will lift the lid on more of Marvel's future road map. Maybe not up until 2042, but at least for the next few years. Currently, Marvel has not officially announced a launch plan for
[03:48] anything beyond December 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars. As for Spider-Man and Miles Morales, Feige had this to say, "Quote, Sony has the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse series, which are very popular and excellent. And Beyond
[04:03] the Spider-Verse is coming out next year. But yes, we definitely have plans, and I think a live-action Spider-Man movie has this destiny to add Miles sometime after the Spider-Verse series ends. We've been thinking and discussing
[04:18] more Spider-Man adventures regardless of agreements or contracts. My production partner, Amy Pascal, is already working on it, and we've had in-depth discussions about what the next two, three, four, and five Spider-Man movies
[04:33] might be about." And that is your daily fix for Thursday, July 23rd. I'm Kim Horcher, and for all your video game news, stay tuned to IGN.
