Audi A2 Review: Full Breakdown & Transcript

[00:00] There's a normal household 3 pin socket or if in Europe a 2 pin socket there with 16 amps and I'll show you what's the power They're perfect for illuminating the car.

[00:27] This is the new Audi A-Tune. It has door handles just like a Ferrari Pura Sandway. Look, there's actually a physical button. You just press your thing on there. It opens. it and it opens. Now you might be thinking wait a minute what happens if your car's battery's flat

[00:40] you're not going to be able to get in. Not true the doors each have their own individual battery in them so they'll always open. The new A2 features a clever magnetic attachment system called speed lock so it uses magnetic devices to port into those so this is the cable bag normal cable

[00:57] bag very annoying having it running around in the car but I can actually get it back in quite easily there we go look and it's secure i think you can get some other features as well look at this this is a little stuff this i can just touch onto there see touches it's tight and if you

[01:14] just come here a second lewis now lewis has gone three months and it's really annoying right i missed him so lewis to punish you i'm going to take you for a walk with the car okay you'll be fine right let's go for a ride

[01:28] see ya if I press this button on the entertainment display then go into exterior lighting I can change the daytime running light signatures from that to that to that to finally that

[01:42] question is though do all those features I've just shown you make this new A2 as groundbreaking as the original remember that car had an aluminium space same chassis to keep the weight down in fact it weighed under 900 kilos this one it's going to be

[01:55] at least twice the weight thing is though this car is still very efficient because on a charge it can go 400 miles part of the reason for that range is the fact that this car is quite aerodynamic for a small vehicle 0.24 cd if that means anything to you now i'll talk you through some of the aero

[02:11] features as well as the design as a whole right now so if you look at the front this big panel here looks like these lights up but they don't they're just graphics but behind these all your sensors for your self-driving and your safety systems now if you just

[02:25] look here you will see an air breather there to improve air flow there's a grill here which can be shut down so that you don't get too much drag and the underbody is flat that all combines to the aero look at the lights you can get

[02:37] different lights depending on your spec you have your daytime running light up there and you have your main headlight being lower down but from this angle there a little bit of the old fiction C for Picasso about it more so I say

[02:51] than the original Audi A2 more of that as we move down the side but first I want to show you this look so if I come around here you'll see that air breather there exit air there and hair as well down the side that's really quite nice no fake vents here

[03:04] well done Audi I should point this out wheel sizes start at 18 go all the way up to 20 inches which is impressive on this kind of car. Also, you've got aero wheels for less drag. And then, like I'm saying, like a Tesla,

[03:16] there's no cheap plastic here, just lovely diamond-cut aluminium. Very careful you don't curb it, then. Moving down the sides, I think the side profile is very much like a Citroen C4 Coupe.

[03:28] See what I mean? Yeah, it's also like the old A2 as well. Round the back, there's more of the C4 Coupe, with this spoiler here, once again, improving the aerodynamics and the way they've done that it actually improves the visibility because you've got the window there and the window there as well

[03:43] I must say I love the rear of this car this one has the braided taillights and they have a nice little graphic design in them a lighty Audi badge here, I don't like on the front but here on the back it just looks expensive very nice

[03:55] and then you have this kind of fake diffuser thing going on there but maybe it does help with aero gosh, the undercar is completely flat actually, it really is Oh, there's something else.

[04:07] This car hasn't got it, but you can get an electrically deployable tow hitch, and this thing will tow 1.6 tonnes, which isn't bad for a car this size, especially not an electric vehicle. It's the same as a Tesla Model Y will tow, and this car is cheaper and smaller, obviously.

[04:21] The new A2 is replacing the Q2 and the A1, and for an entry-level Audi, it definitely feels like they're bringing quality back to the brand. Also, the design is pretty cool as well. Parts from the one thing that I don't like about modern Audis,

[04:33] and it's there in the touchscreen digital driver's display just too much bezel going on it's unnecessary if it's just screen size no bezel I'll be fine with it but I like the steering wheel I like the layout I'm not so keen on the buttons on the steering wheel

[04:45] when they just cheap out by having one panel for all these different buttons but at least there's a couple of rockers and you have out is current switch gear there that's for your wipers that's for your speed that's for your lights and there's your drive select

[04:57] I like that system some people don't but I definitely don't like it's where they put the start button look see ya that's just ergonomically bad what's less bad though is the switch to open the door just there

[05:09] just press it there that all feels fine and material quality extends until you're low down and it's fractured but that's what you'd expect from this class of car I quite like the design of the centre console here with your drive select mode and the ability to go into your like

[05:21] safety systems and then turn off things like shut up the speed warning let's go off go off confirm get rid of that straight away even though I not driving and just do it as a matter of principle and then you got your wireless charging there so I think it like 25 watts it pretty quick and it got like the mag lock there so it holds your phone so you can put two mobile phones there and charge

[05:39] wirelessly but if you look at these holes here see those holes that's because you have normal USB-C's there and they can do like over 60 watts so you can charge your laptop and stuff like that really good storage here I'm not sure about just having one cup holder here in the front but I do like

[05:53] this feature it's got that Fidlock so I can just pull it off and you go I don't want that there how about if I put it there instead yeah put it there it's probably another place where I don't know about

[06:05] who needs Fidlock? Let's put that back. Oh that storage is actually quite decent in there it's designed to hold a laptop or your iPad speaking of which this infotainment system gets like

[06:17] Microsoft Teams thing so you can do work calls while you're charging and if you want to go the camera is for that, you can't see it anywhere, it's actually integrated in the nearest amount. Speaking of which, see this pod here. That pod contains loads of cameras and sensors and stuff

[06:32] but the problem with it, it comes quite far down into the windscreen so the actual visibility through the middle bit is like that. It's not great. It reminds me of the Mark 1 GR Yaris. It's the only way to describe it, Mark 1 GR Yaris. Anyway, I'm going to continue with the practicality

[06:48] because the glove box is fine, it's damp, it's got felt lines, it feels arid and expensive decent sized door bins as well there seats are comfy if you get an S-line model which this is you can have different sports seats if you want and you can have like an Alcantara material instead of a leather

[07:05] oh look at this ice feet anchor points on the front passenger seat that is good the new A2 is about as wide as the Q2 which it's replacing it's about five centimeters taller but the important bit is this the new A2 is actually 12 centimeters longer than the Q2 it replaces it's actually the same length

[07:22] pretty much as an A3 Sportback but the important bit is this the wheelbase it's almost 20 centimeters longer than the Q2 it's even longer than the A3 Sportback and that should improve rear passenger

[07:34] space but does it well as you can see yes it has the new rim in the old Q2 is terrible this is really impressive it's more like an A6 or something it's really good also Audi has used batches that aren't too tall so you have decent amount of headroom as well look you see good

[07:50] headroom what's not so good though is this you still sit quite low to the floor look at this see what i mean that just sits there to there so it doesn't have so much under size for but because you've got so much space in the footwells look you can just sit slightly sideways and that is

[08:03] comfy i'm impressed i'm also impressed by the fact they haven't cheaped out here in the back the chills are exactly the same as in the front that is good you got some of the features like USB there for charging Oh look We got another Fidlock thingy So everyone can argue over who has the cup holder

[08:23] I think maybe you can order more. They'll charge you extra for that. That's handy for you. We have storage here. Diesel-sized door bins. And this armrest cup holder. And they are exposed. However, this is quite cool. So this is normally a bigger car feature.

[08:37] Three-way folding rear seats. You get the A2 with automatic tailgate opening, there we go, wave your leg about, do that silly thing. Big Class D, 396 litres, so slightly bigger than an A3 Sportback, decent size actually,

[08:51] and you can get storage packages which includes the Pidlock stuff and an adjustable boot slot. That's coming away. Actually, you know what, I never carry the cables in the boot. Fortunately, this car has a frunk, which is unusual on an Audi electric car. Let's go check it out.

[09:20] oh no I'm going to have to un-level them to make it fit that is small enough if the cables don't fit in here it's just absolutely pointless shall I tell you what I use these

[09:32] for speech for as well especially when they're lined like this with plastic carrying milk back from the shops because you never want to spill milk in a car believe me oh f***

[09:48] life is way too short for this the new Audi A2 will be available with a 52, 61 and 84kWh battery pack, the range will kick off from just over £32,000

[10:00] rising to £45,000 for a top spec model if you want to compare the prices against competitors side by side pause the video now however i do have a caveat with the pricing because obviously those

[10:14] are the list prices if you go through carlo you'll be able to see what you can get in terms of discounts from different dealers from our partners so if you're thinking about buying one of these cars one of its competitors head over to carlo now to make sure you're paying a fair price finally

[10:26] though we come back to the question i raised at the beginning is this new a2 as groundbreaking as as the original and quite frankly no however while journalists loved the agent it won various awards
