[00:00] JavaScript frameworks are no longer the key to jobs in web development in 2026. These days, AI can write all the Vue, React, Next.js code you want.

[00:14] That's not the issue anymore. The nuts and bolts of playing with code is not the key to jobs for juniors anymore. This happens, by the way, every now and then. Technology changes and you have a new layer of abstraction that comes about.

[00:30] I've seen this many times before. Before frameworks like React and Vue came out, we used to write vanilla JavaScript code. And then these new layers came out, React and Vue. So it hit a lot of the details of the JavaScript code

[00:44] that we used to have to write back in the day. So yet again, with the new AI layers that have come out recently and the low-code, no-code platforms that are out, again, it abstracts away this bottom layer.

[00:58] Now the key to getting a job in 2026 is not concentrating on these frameworks but concentrating on the fundamental principles and techniques that govern effective software development

[01:13] So you have to understand things like APIs, data flows, how to define use cases, how to figure out business logic in an effective way, good communication skills.

[01:26] And of course, you do have to know your foundations of JavaScript because when you're working with the AI, which you should be in 2026, you still need to know what you're doing. The AI will make these mistakes, will go off on these crazy tangents.

[01:41] And if you don't know your code very well, you may get away with it for simple projects. But when things start getting just a little bit complex, then you're going to get into trouble. Just like with React developers and Vue developers, if they didn't know their

[01:57] JavaScript well enough, even though they weren't writing raw, vanilla JavaScript constantly if they didn know their JavaScript they didn understand the DOM they had a lot of problems Same thing with AI Just because AI can write a lot of code it doesn mean that you don need to know how to code

[02:13] But what you do need to do is not focus in on what was useful in the past. You have to focus in on what is useful today. And again, that's vanilla JavaScript, the foundations of JavaScript, and the things I talked about, data flows, API, how APIs, rather,

[02:30] how to make decisions between this particular library and that library, and how to define and put together good systems based on the business logic

[02:44] that's required for a particular job. This is what makes a developer a successful developer today. This has always been the case, but junior level coders used to be able to get in there

[02:56] to register some basic boilerplate code. and then the seniors would train them up over time. Today, the seniors have the AI's to write the boilerplate. So you as a junior have to adopt the new AI stacks do new AI workflows and to get deeper into understanding these topics that I just talked about The fact that JavaScript libraries like React and Vue are

[03:19] losing their juice in terms of entry-level jobs, it's expected. It's expected if you have any experience in software development. I've been at this game since 1995, and I've seen over and over

[03:33] again where new technologies come out replacing the old technologies and the key if you're a beginner is to jump on to the new stuff that is the key that is your your hack to get the entry

[03:47] level jobs to get that first job as i said you got to think a bit broader and you got to think ai related as well again ai does not replace developers it changes what developers do so if

[04:02] you're a junior trying to get a job with the old school techniques, the old school skills that were in demand five years ago, you're going to have trouble. But if you're a junior who leverages the new stuff, you're going to be fine.
