The Latest TikTok Trend Is Really Weird... (TikTok NPC Streams)

[00:02] a general rule but occasionally I have to dive in to see what's going on and when I saw this NBC Trend I thought it had to be bait but no it's not if you've been lucky enough to avoid seeing this brain rot so far this is what it is you

[00:44] insane there are actually people doing that on Tick Tock live and it's gone super viral to the point that literally every tick tock livestream I saw while checking this out was one of these ridiculous streams So today we're gonna

[00:57] discuss the tick tock NPC Trend what exactly it is and why of all the things someone could do with their lives people are choosing to do this ice is so good thank you Lopez slay huh ice cream so good

[01:13] mmm ice cream so good yes yes yes yes yes yes I guess we should start with an explanation of what exactly you just saw you know how in video games NPCs are traditionally kind of locked into what they're doing and how they'll React to

[01:27] what you do kind of like this Guard from Oblivion stop you violated the law pay the court a fine or serve your sentence your stolen goods are now forfeit or the you how they used to be an adventurer like you until they took an arrow to the

[01:43] knee basically they're programmed with only a few actual actions they can take in response to player input and this trend is trying to emulate that they're trying to be NPCs like the video game kind feel like I should probably specify

[01:55] because for whatever reason when you Google NPC there's a New York Times article that says NPC is a pro-trump insult tiktok has a weird tipping system where basically you buy a bunch of little items instead of loading real

[02:09] cash onto the app those items can be gifted to streamers on Tick Tock live convert those items back into Cash later it's kind of a weird system almost certainly built to try and cause kids to disassociate the amount of money they're

[02:22] spending on Tick Tock streamers but predatory or not it is what it is and because Tick Tock doesn't have any other great options to monetize your content the entire point of these live streams is to farm as many of these items as you

[02:35] can so you make as much money as you can and the NPC trend is kind of the perfect way to farm donations you stay in your default state which is usually like a little bounce or walk in place until someone gifts an item to you and then

[02:47] gifted to you this incentivizes the viewers to give you items of different types to see the full range of emotes engaging at all and it's actually a little off-putting if you have a fully

[03:00] streams aren't meant for adults they're meant for the children who endlessly completely ruined their attention span so not only will they watch endlessly just to see you do the funny meme again they've also gotten no qualms about

[03:15] since they have no idea what the value of money really is yet most of it is their parents credit card without the parent knowing or even worse caring parents are going to have a pretty interesting talk with their kid at the

[03:30] end of the month asking what they spent the money on and the kid has to try to person on Tick Tock because he wanted to see the cowboy hat emote hopefully parent take the iPad away from their kid for a little while because I don't think

[03:43] anyone could ever argue that endlessly watching NPC content on Tick Tock is healthy for a developing brain so what amount of money is enough to make you willing to stand in the same spot doing the same emotes over and over like a

[03:57] of money is enough for you to know that you're taking advantage of dumb kids and according to the guardian one of the biggest NPC Trend streamers named pinky

[04:09] doll says that on some days she's made more than seven thousand dollars the to thousand seven hundred and fifty dollars a day less than half of what she says she's made that's just over one million dollars a year yeah someone's kid is

[04:24] their mom decided to stand on Tick Tock and just say random phrases all day also Guardian author because the first line of the article calls the trend mesmerizing which is not exactly how I describe it overall I don't really know

[04:40] it's bottom of the barrel content but you do have to be dedicated to be able take a lot of effort to keep yourself sane while doing it for hours at a time on the other hand you are literally taking money from children and
