Elden Ring Tarnished Edition Lore — Full Breakdown & Transcript

[00:00] There is new lore in the Tarnished Edition of Elden Ring. With the addition of the new Spectral Steed Regalia comes the revelation that there were several liveries once prepared for Spectral Steeds,

[00:12] allowing Torrent, through Grace, to change his appearance. So not only do we learn that other Spectral Steeds could exist, but we also learn that, once, preparations were being made for outfitting them.

[00:26] The libraries in question may hint at who was behind the initiative and when in the timeline such adornments were being prepared. One outfit is a smaller version of the Solemn Gold Armor that adorns the warhorses of the Tree Sentinels who serve the Erdtree.

[00:43] For this to have been commissioned suggests someone within the Erdtree's own order considered spectral steeds to be worth dressing in gold. And considering its location behind the throne at Stormvale Castle, I think it may even be one of the many treasures that Godric stole when he fled the royal capital.

[01:03] Another livery is a smaller version of the sable attire used to adorn and conceal the warhorses of the Knights Cavalry. As with the Tree Sentinel livery this reaffirms that the spectral steeds were an asset of Marika Golden Order with these gloomy steeds specifically being fashioned to serve alongside Margit Knight Cavalry

[01:25] Not to mention, we find this livery at the place where Margit's second defense of Leyndell is memorialized, tying the steeds directly to the Fel Omen himself. The third regalia breaks the

[01:38] the pattern, being a one-of-a-kind item made for a certain spectral steed, as opposed to the others we've mentioned being one of several liveries that were prepared for spectral steeds in general.

[01:50] The implication is, of course, that it was made specifically for Torrent. This one is said to have been forged in the lands of the Three Sisters, and of the three towers it's found within Rani's Rise, which marks her as its owner.

[02:05] Perhaps she looked after Torrent for a time before he came to us, or perhaps she envisioned a future where Torrent would pass to her instead. She does express this fondness for Torrent in her dialogue, and she betrays that she is familiar with Torrent's former master, whoever that is.

[02:23] Whatever the case, Torrent is yours now, and though his form will change when vested in this garb, he is still Torrent underneath, and his heart remains the same.
