A lottery enthusiast buys one $20 scratch-off ticket from each of 10 different stores, spending $200 total, to test whether buying a single ticket per location improves his odds. After scratching all tickets, he ends up with only $60 in winnings—two wins in total—and uses the results to explain how 'overall odds' work on lottery tickets.
The creator announces the challenge: buying a single $20 ticket from each of 10 different stores, totaling a $200 session. He notes that odds on $20 tickets should yield at least two wins out of ten.
The first ticket is purchased at a Kroger grocery store, chosen because big wins can be cashed there due to the store's cash on hand.
It took 1 hour and 20 minutes to visit all 10 stores and buy the tickets. Afterward, he stops at Starbucks for an iced americano.
He deliberately tries to buy one of each ticket type. The only duplicate is Monaco Millionaire, which he also had in a previous video.
On the Power 20s ticket, he finds a match and wins $20, breaking even on that ticket. He remains encouraged for the remaining tickets.
Another ticket yields a $40 winner, bringing his running total to $60. He notes this is in line with expected odds.
The last ticket, Monaco Millionaire, is a loser. In total, he spent $200 and received $60 back, a net loss of $140.
He explains that 'overall odds' on these $20 tickets means about 1 in 4 tickets will be a winner. Buying 10 tickets produced exactly 2 wins, matching the stated odds, though individual results can vary.
