6:58[00:00] hello and welcome to another video my
[00:02] name is Gillian Perkins and in today's
[00:03] video I'm sharing through 10 YouTube SEO
[00:06] tips to help you rank your videos number
[00:09] one on YouTube these are the exact
[00:11] strategies that have allowed me to get
[00:12] over 16,000 subscribers and over a
[00:15] million views within the first 6 months
[00:17] of starting my youtube channel so if you
[00:19] want to find out how to rank your videos
[00:21] number one on YouTube then keep on
[00:23] watching I'm so pleased to be doing this
[00:24] video in collaboration with my friend
[00:26] Jessica Stansbury jessica is an amazing
[00:29] influencer and entrepreneur who helps
[00:31] online business owners grow their
[00:32] businesses using video I'm going to be
[00:35] sharing five of the YouTube SEO tips
[00:37] right here in this video and then after
[00:38] you finish this video you can head over
[00:40] to Jessica's video which I will link in
[00:42] the description bar below and you can
[00:44] find the other 5 tips so that you can
[00:46] learn everything you need to know about
[00:47] YouTube SEO okay
[00:49] so let's jump into the tips first you
[00:51] need to understand that how YouTube
[00:53] decides which videos to rank is based on
[00:56] keywords people are looking for
[00:58] different topics on YouTube and they're
[01:00] also watching videos and seeing videos
[01:02] suggested in the sidebar you need to use
[01:04] specific words that people are looking
[01:06] for or interested in in your videos
[01:08] title description and tags so that you
[01:10] will show up in the search and on that
[01:12] sidebar and more people will watch your
[01:14] video the first step to doing this is to
[01:16] make sure that you find some really good
[01:18] keywords that people are actually
[01:19] interested in and actually searching for
[01:21] so first
[01:22] brainstorm a whole bunch of different
[01:24] ideas about what people might be
[01:26] searching for think about the real words
[01:27] that people would use if they were
[01:29] looking for a video like yours after
[01:31] you've brainstormed a big list of words
[01:33] that people might be using then it's
[01:34] time to start doing a little bit of
[01:36] research to figure out which of those
[01:37] words are actually the most popular the
[01:39] simplest way to do this is just to start
[01:41] typing these different keywords into the
[01:43] search bar on YouTube or on Google when
[01:46] you do this you'll see a bunch of
[01:47] suggested searches pop up and these are
[01:49] some of the things that people are
[01:50] searching for the most often when you
[01:52] find these terms that people are using a
[01:54] whole lot you'll want to make sure that
[01:56] you use those words in your videos title
[01:58] description and tags another way to
[02:00] figure out exactly which keywords you
[02:02] should be focusing on is to use a free
[02:04] extension called
[02:05] tube buddy - buddy is just a browser
[02:07] extension that you can install on
[02:08] whatever browser you're using
[02:10] it will give you data on different
[02:12] search terms when you're doing research
[02:13] on YouTube so with two buddy installed
[02:15] when I search for a keyword on YouTube
[02:17] I see this little box pop up over on the
[02:20] side of the page and it gives me a rank
[02:22] for that keyword it tells me how good of
[02:24] a keyword that is based on how popular
[02:27] it is how many people are searching for
[02:28] it and how competitive it is basically
[02:31] you want to be looking for keywords that
[02:33] have lots of people searching for them
[02:35] but aren't very competitive now the
[02:36] reality is that most keywords that
[02:39] people are searching for are going to be
[02:41] fairly competitive so you're just
[02:42] looking to find a good balance if you
[02:44] can find one that is moderately popular
[02:46] and moderately competitive then that's
[02:48] actually probably a pretty good keyword
[02:50] to go after but ideally you're looking
[02:52] for one that is very popular and not
[02:54] very competitive as your channel grows
[02:56] in popularity you'll be able to go after
[02:57] more and more competitive keywords and
[03:00] you'll be able to get better and better
[03:01] rankings for your videos when you're
[03:03] just starting out it's better to target
[03:05] those less competitive keywords that
[03:07] maybe aren't quite as popular but at
[03:08] least you'll be able to rank for and
[03:10] start to get some traction on YouTube
[03:11] okay so my second tip is one that I
[03:13] haven't heard anyone talking about so if
[03:15] you do this you will definitely be ahead
[03:17] of the game and this is to use your
[03:19] competitors video titles as tags on your
[03:22] own video so when you're doing your
[03:24] keyword research and you're looking at
[03:26] these different keywords that you'd like
[03:27] to rank for and the sort of videos that
[03:29] if people are interested in them
[03:31] they would also be interested in the
[03:32] video that you are making so if you want
[03:34] to do is copy the title of that video
[03:36] exactly and then paste it into the tags
[03:39] section of your video and also into the
[03:42] bottom part of the description of your
[03:44] video that way when someone is watching
[03:45] that video on YouTube your video will be
[03:47] much more likely to show up in the
[03:49] suggested video side column and you will
[03:51] get a lot more views because of it and
[03:53] if you want to be even more sneaky about
[03:55] it that you can open up a private
[03:56] browser in your computer go to the
[03:58] competitors video and then see what
[04:00] videos show up in the side column when
[04:03] you're watching their video and you
[04:04] could use some of the more popular
[04:06] videos that are popping up on that
[04:07] sidebar as even more tags on your own
[04:10] video tip number three is to use two
[04:12] buddy to see what keywords your
[04:14] competitors are successfully targeting
[04:15] so whenever you're watching a video on
[04:17] youtube and you have two buddy installed
[04:19] over on
[04:20] right hand side you will see a list of
[04:22] all of the tags that are on that video
[04:24] and tubebuddy will even tell you how
[04:26] well that video is ranking for those
[04:28] different tags so if you see a video
[04:29] that's really similar to the video that
[04:31] you're making and the channel that made
[04:34] it has a similar number of subscribers
[04:36] as you do and maybe their videos are
[04:38] doing about as well as your videos are
[04:40] normally doing then that gives you a
[04:42] good idea that you can probably rank for
[04:44] those same keywords if you optimize your
[04:46] video around those keywords so if you're
[04:48] making a video about how to train your
[04:50] puppy and you go and watch a video that
[04:52] has that tail how to train your puppy
[04:54] and you look at the tags over on the
[04:56] side and you see that they are ranking
[04:57] number five for the keyword puppy
[05:00] training tips then you know that puppy
[05:02] training tips is probably a good keyword
[05:04] for you to go after okay now it's time
[05:06] for tip number four YouTube likes to
[05:08] reward creators who keep people on
[05:11] YouTube for longer so when someone is
[05:13] watching one of your videos if they then
[05:15] go and watch another of your videos
[05:16] right after it then YouTube thinks oh
[05:18] wow this channel is doing a great job
[05:20] people are interested in watching more
[05:22] content and that means that they are
[05:23] interested in being on YouTube to watch
[05:25] this creators content so if you can do
[05:27] something to make people want to watch
[05:29] more of your videos right after they
[05:31] watch one of your videos then YouTube
[05:33] will actually want to give you a boost
[05:35] in the rankings because they want your
[05:36] channel to do better so it sneaky little
[05:38] way that you can do this is to use your
[05:40] own name and/or channel name in the tags
[05:43] section of your video here's what this
[05:45] does this means that YouTube thinks that
[05:47] your videos are even more closely
[05:49] related to each other because it sees
[05:51] that they have these different keywords
[05:53] that are in common so it sees that on
[05:55] one of your videos your name is in the
[05:57] tags and in another of your videos your
[05:58] name is in the tags and that way when
[06:00] someone's watching one of your video
[06:01] your other videos are even more likely
[06:03] to show up in those suggested videos
[06:05] which means that someone is more likely
[06:07] to watch one of your videos after the
[06:09] video if they're already watching so not
[06:11] only does this mean that YouTube will
[06:12] favor your channel but it also means
[06:14] that you're getting more views right
[06:15] then and there because people are going
[06:17] to watch more of your videos in a row
[06:18] tip number five is also kind of sneaky
[06:21] which makes me feel like maybe I should
[06:22] call this video like sneaky tips to rank
[06:24] number one on YouTube but anyway my
[06:26] fifth tip for you is to not only put the
[06:29] tags
[06:30] in the actual tags box where YouTube
[06:32] tells you to put your tags but also copy
[06:34] them from there and paste them into the
[06:35] very bottom part of your video's
[06:37] description and that way you get all of
[06:39] your keywords both into the description
[06:41] and into the tags also rather than
[06:43] trying to stuff all those keywords and
[06:45] make them sound natural somehow in the
[06:47] video's description you can just put it
[06:48] all the way down at the bottom and just
[06:50] write tags and then put a whole list of
[06:52] the tags after that and that way anyone
[06:54] sees it they just think oh those are the
[06:56] tags and they won't think twice about it
[06:58] so I can't let you go without giving you
[07:00] a bonus tip or maybe two the first bonus
[07:02] tip is just make sure that you keep in
[07:04] mind that main big picture strategy
[07:06] which is you want to find keywords that
[07:09] have a high searched volume and low
[07:11] competition the more of those keywords
[07:12] you can find the better your videos will
[07:14] do and bonus tip number two is decide
[07:17] exactly what keywords you're going to go
[07:18] after with your video before you film
[07:20] your video so that as you make your
[07:22] video you can actually say the keywords
[07:24] in your video because YouTube is
[07:26] listening to you their algorithm and
[07:28] software has gotten a lot more advanced
[07:30] and they can actually listen to your
[07:32] videos now even if you don't have
[07:33] subtitles or closed captions on your
[07:36] video they can still listen to your
[07:38] video at least in part to try to figure
[07:40] out exactly what your video is about so
[07:42] if you say your keywords in your video
[07:44] of course in a natural conversational
[07:47] way then this will actually help your
[07:48] video rank better on YouTube okay so
[07:51] that is all the tips I have for you in
[07:52] this video but remember now you need to
[07:54] go over to Jessica's channel there's a
[07:56] link down below so that you can learn
