9 Ways We Keep Our Home Organized

[00:00] Maybe it's the minimalist in me or the perfectionist, about creating order from chaos. I've got hundreds of pins and bookmarks to prove it.

[00:15] and which is needlessly complicating your life. that we actually do that help us So let's start with cable management.

[00:30] more than seeing exposed cables tangling out in the open. and also these cable ties. for wrapping up cables quickly and holding them in place.

[00:42] and unwrap cables often. or fixing them to furniture. behind our end table.

[00:55] but hide them away when they aren't in use. that I discovered early on as a filmmaker. I needed a way to keep them all organized

[01:10] I mean, I have over 30 hard drives So one day I opened up the drawer in my kitchen, You could use either sandwich bags

[01:23] baby bottles and other household items. and I found that they hold up for a really long time. that helps us keep things organized

[01:35] I can't take credit for this rule But it's been so helpful in keeping our house clutter free. hang it up in the closet.

[01:49] put them in the dishwasher. 'cause he's gonna be back there But I mean, you get the idea.

[02:02] about every time you put an object down. and without realizing it, a ton of time of cleanup later on.

[02:15] that's not one of the nine main ones A magnetic sponge holder. to connect it to the inside of the sink,

[02:29] And if it's wet, the water will just drip I just love little practical devices like this One thing we were worried about

[02:42] I've been picking up a lot of hobbies lately, Nat has a lot of coats, bags, and hats. we were gonna store all of our stuff.

[02:56] and so it's given us a little bit more freedom like this cabinet right here behind me. It was just one large broom closet,

[03:09] - We get very excited about storage. You can't even tell that these are storage cabinets, but behind each of these panels is a push to open closet.

[03:21] one row for Frankie's, and so on. and also helps to keep the rest of our house is adding a charging station inside of the cabinet.

[03:35] on a countertop or on the ground next to an outlet. all the way down to the smallest one here. and so now we can make use of it

[03:50] I don't even need that, I wanna point out one thing that our front entryway more than anything else, a shoe cubby.

[04:03] we noticed that our shoes kept piling up at the front door. or tried to clean up the entry hallway, We didn't have a closet at the front door,

[04:15] So we got the idea to move around to make room for a shoe cubby. and placed some paper down

[04:27] The white paper is actually kind of gross so I might replace this with black paper in the future. Sometimes we leave a few shoes at the front entryway,

[04:40] and it's easy to stow all of them away if we want to. "Matt, how do you make videos That's a good question.

[06:03] every drawer eventually becomes a junk drawer. and clutter-free is adding drawer dividers. into sections reserved for lenses, cameras, and batteries.

[06:20] or gets damaged when opening and closing the drawer. in our kitchen to separate our daily vitamins or by splitting up otherwise chaotic junk drawers

[06:33] In the past, we've also used a cutlery or a silverware tray to get even more organized. We don't currently find that we need them in this house,

[06:47] So when you live in a home with minimal storage, and that's why we decided to get really intentional with how we organize the space under our bed.

[07:02] but you can also use these zip up bags like we do. or clothes that Frankie has grown out of. but will need in the future get zipped up and stored away.

[07:18] organized has been everything has its place. but it's helped us clean our home faster So whenever Nat and I move into a new home,

[07:32] from our silverware to office supplies. clear plastic containers. to see what's inside without opening them up.

[07:47] you own in the first place. Every time we think about making a purchase, we really think through what we want to bring

[08:02] When you have less stuff, less stuff to put into sandwich bags, And this isn't an easy process.

[08:14] through every single item that's in your home. but I didn't keep every single cable I kept a handful that I needed and recycled the rest.

[08:26] we're not afraid to let go of things when our life changes, We will frequently donate Our house is organized, but it's not perfect.

[08:40] we have a cabinet that's stuffed with cleaning supplies, And that's totally fine with us, we can spend our time doing more important things

[08:52] than organizing used batteries.
