[00:03] leave Florida. I'm a little cryptid who stays voluntarily quarantined in this wonderful swamp. Shrek and I bear a lot of similarity in that regard. And when I

[00:16] of similarity in that regard. And when I do travel, which is very seldom, I stay at hotels. But I have stayed in a handful of Airbnbs. And while I've never had like a super negative experience outside of one like peculiar host who

[00:29] was just very curious with what was going on there and checking in, you know, just being best buddies unannounced. Outside of that, I've never really had anything, you know, outrageous. So, I'm not like, you know,

[00:43] the biggest Scrooge when it comes to Airbnb, but I'm also not an enthusiast. I stopped doing Airbnbs because I stopped seeing the value in it. It's just you're paying the same, sometimes even more than just staying in a hotel.

[00:56] And then there's certain expectations and rules like house rules you have to follow, like the cleaning and such, which at a hotel you're not responsible for, so why not just do the hotel if it's somewhat close to where wherever

[01:10] you're going for your travel? So, I haven't done Airbnb in a while, but I do love watching Airbnb hosts. uh crash outs probably not even the right word, but they go on like these pretentious rants about guests that uh

[01:24] pretentious rants about guests that uh didn't follow their 450 house rules or uh berating them because the furniture was moved like a millimeter out of whack. I find great pleasure in hearing

[01:38] whack. I find great pleasure in hearing that kind of [ __ ] lunacy. And today I have been blessed with quite a bit of this because Airbnb has made a change to their platform where they are now no longer allowing the hosts to have rules

[01:54] like you have to take the trash offsite somewhere and requiring guests to like do laundry in and such. Like there are still some things that obviously they can set as house rules, but they have changed it to make it more friendly to

[02:08] the guests where now they can't be asked to like do the laundry and get down [ __ ] toothbrush and the rubber gloves and start getting the grout, you know, which is a good change because there are some people in there acting like this is

[02:21] the [ __ ] Marines when you go into their house for the Airbnb stay. Like they run that ship tight with the iron fist. So, like there's one that I've it was a story that was kind of blowing up on TikTok about uh this Airbnb couple

[02:37] that does inspections and [ __ ] looking for even the slightest tiddly wink out of whack and then it's a whole issue and it's a whole big blowup. But like you pay a cleaning fee when you're staying at some of these properties and yet they

[02:53] still expect you to do cleaning on your own like doing the dishes, the laundry, and all of that. It's just it's [ __ ] silly. So, this is a positive change for normal people, but the hosts have been struggling to come to terms with this,

[03:07] thinking that this is like war and unjust. There's also some that are talking about a mass exodus and starting their own platform outside of Airbnb. >> House rules and reasonable requests. You

[03:20] can no longer require people to take out trash. People to put up the >> It smells so bad if it's like left out. >> You can't make people start the >> Why? >> Can't make So Hold on. Let me take these

[03:35] in. I'm serious. >> Matt sent me this of this couple that says they have multiple property on Airbnb and uh they're not super happy with it. her in particular, she doesn't love that they can no longer require

[03:50] love that they can no longer require guests to take out the trash like that or force them to start the dishwasher and such, which again, I don't know why it's like a hard concept to grasp for hosts that when your guests are staying

[04:04] there and most likely paying a cleaning fee that you impose upon them, which is just [ __ ] free cash, the infinite money glitch that hosts love to exploit, it's a little ridiculous to also ask them to do cleaning on top of it too

[04:16] when the alternative hotels are sometimes cheaper than Airbnbs. In fact, I would say often times cheaper than Airbnbs and that is not an expectation Airbnbs and that is not an expectation that is covered in that charge. So like

[04:30] you're offering a service that is requiring more effort for more money from the guests and then you treat them like [ __ ] animals if they don't want to. Like yes, someone going into your house and they leave it and you know

[04:46] frustrating and that's you know a you're requiring them to like do all of these chores for you while also charging a cleaning fee, you can see why that leaves a sour taste in most people's

[04:59] mouths and a lot of people would elect to just go to a hotel instead. It's not there with a sledgehammer and bust everything down, but it's a lot less stressful and a lot less rules and they no longer have that cleaning fee charge

[05:12] on top of it. Unless of course they blow up that [ __ ] room with poop and pee >> Starting a dishwasher when you get there and sometimes dishwashers can take like 2 hours. That's how long it takes me to clean an entire Airbnb. So now I'm If it

[05:26] having to wait. >> What? I didn't follow the math on that through that algebra. If it takes 2 hours in the dishwasher and it takes you 2 hours to do the cleaning,

[05:41] you start the cleaning and when you're done cleaning, the dishwasher will also be done? Is there something I'm missing here? Why require the guests to do it? And then also, I'm going to harp on the cleaning charge because that is a very

[05:55] contentious thing. Why charge a cleaning fee as well when you're already well? stream. >> Yeah, >> but that's what people pay us >> the cleaning fee for. But

[06:07] of gross. But >> there are so many there are so many >> that is a small one. Sure. >> And then you can't have people take out the um take the sheets out the bed and and like

[06:20] sheets. >> Then how can you have the gall to charge a cleaning fee when you're requiring all of your guests to do all of the cleaning for you? Sounds like a pretty frivolous charge there to just hose your guests

[06:34] for money if you're this offended that you can no longer force them to do the cleaning for you. Like they're trying to cope here by saying like there's other well, what if they have to do the dishes, the trash, and the laundry? Like

[06:48] picking up some of the stuff they'd leave around or something, I guess. But leave around or something, I guess. But like that's the littlest part of it from what I can tell. This is like this is just so painfully out of touch. What it

[07:03] really feels like is hosts became so comfortable and so used to being able to exploit this system that now that they won't be able to and will actually have won't be able to and will actually have to work for that cleaning fee. They're

[07:16] upset about it. It seemed like people were more than comfortable just properties. They mentioned they have multiple and they just rent them out on multiple and they just rent them out on Airbnb and let the guest force the guest

[07:29] to do all of like the cleaning work for them to take that off their plate so without having to do too much work on their end. Too much effort. >> Again, I want I want to be clear though. We had these rules or suggestions. What

[07:44] were rules. That's what we said. We should have probably said suggestions, >> everyone has house rules. Like every >> and it takes like 5 minutes to do like I know this is Airbnb's thing of like we

[07:57] everything and I get it. I mean, but like are different though. >> Yeah, you can say you weren't mad, but based on her reaction, she's pretty grossed out by the notion of not being

[08:12] able to enforce this any longer. and you're still charging a cleaning fee while asking your guests to do the cleaning for you. You see how this looks, right? Like it's [ __ ] silly. Like that that is a ridiculous notion.

[08:25] And this is a good change from Airbnb here to no longer allow that to be the case because that is a ridiculous concept. And she's mentioning that there's a difference between hotels and Airbnbs. 100% there is. Hotels are

[08:39] better value. Like you can probably find some really cool locations on Airbnb to like hang out for a little bit, but that comes with a lot more that you have to do on your end following these house rules and like what comes from that

[08:54] where you're like under their thumb and in some cases you're under the microscope of some [ __ ] wackos. Whereas at a hotel, you just go in and you exist and there's no expectation of you, you know, taking out all the trash,

[09:09] of thing, running the dishwasher, whatever. There's no forcing you to do those things. And oftent times the value of it, like it is cheaper. So I think in

[09:22] recent times at least, hotels have been a better uh option than Airbnb, which is why it's been so long since I've done an Airbnb. Even in the few times that I do travel, it's just always a hotel. >> I don't I It's one of those things where

[09:37] it's like you're not asking a lot of a guest to do a couple of things, but in well, if I don't do it, it's not like it's asking you that much to do either, >> goes both ways. >> There is some self-awareness here that

[09:52] she mentions like, hey, we can say that it's not asking a lot of the guests. It also turn around and say the same thing to us, right? Yes, you're you're getting to us, right? Yes, you're you're getting close to it. So, by having these

[10:04] cleaning fees while also requiring your guests with these house rules to do the cleaning, you see why it's bad and why this change is good. I would hope. Now, tame. Like, I don't think there was any like crash out or meltdown or anything

[10:20] were a bit bothered by it, but nothing like huge. And there was it was that's other Airbnb hosts that have been opining on it. They're not super happy,

[10:32] but there's no like crazy crash outs there. Like there's no one, you know, shoving a remote up their ass freaking out about these Airbnb changes, out about these Airbnb changes, at least not on video. On Reddit, it's a

[10:45] totally different ballgame. It's a different beast. The [ __ ] Airbnb host Redditors are a different breed of foul and feral. these [ __ ] freaks, man. Unfortunately, a lot of it has been deleted, but I saw that Dolan made a

[11:00] video covering this change as well, and he was able to save a few of them. One person saying, "Guess my cleaning fee just went up. I'll raise the fee to cover the additional cleaner that now needs to wash dishes, drag out the trash

[11:12] property is spotless in a fivehour turnaround." So, something they should probably have already been sorting themselves. I love how the mask just fully comes off here with this change. It It really just blatantly showcases

[11:25] how out of control these cleaning fees were. So now this guy in particular here to have to jack that price way up now it instead of forcing the guest to do so while also paying that charge." Like,

[11:40] yeah, as Dolan said, if you're charging the cleaning fee, you should have place, pal. He goes on to mention a few of the posts talking about starting their own platform, you know, with Blackjack and Hookers, whatever, you

[11:53] know, post Airbnb and then asking if they can plan like a mass exodus, this big protest to showcase how this is just unacceptable. Let's play with that for a moment. Let's just let's let's play ball with that. If

[12:07] that way you can continue to hose your customers for [ __ ] like this, what customers do you think you're going to get? Like you've made it abundantly clear why the platform is being started so you can get more money out of it for

[12:23] so you can get more money out of it for a worse service. Who's going there? What a stupid idea. Holy [ __ ] They're [ __ ] delusional. Saying they own multiple properties and a few of them are historic. Without being able to set

[12:36] and enforce strict rules, I will not be able to protect these homes in the way that they need to be protected. I mean, if the homes need to be protected, you staying in them. But it didn't end there. They continued to argue in the

[12:49] replies with people. The original post responding saying, "Ah, sweet summer child. I don't rely on rental income. It's just a hobby to show off my properties and art to people who can afford it and to keep those grimy

[13:01] game." >> Now, that's a Redditor. That [ __ ] is in >> Now, that's a Redditor. That [ __ ] is in his blood. He is biologically engineered to be a loveless loser Redditor for the rest of his life. Ah, sweet summer

[13:15] child. Oh god, it's painful. I can't believe he didn't slide in a narwhal baconing at midnight there in the in his response. midnight there in the in his response. Oh [ __ ] it just instantly puts puke in

[13:27] your mouth. Wow. Going on to say that they don't rely on the income. They do it uh just out of the love of the game. It's just a sport. He wants to share his highbrow art collection with the those that can afford it, the people that can

[13:40] afford it, not the riff raff and all the rabble. Absolutely not. He wants to keep estate game as well. Bro is acting like he's listing museums or something, talking about historic buildings full of his art and [ __ ] Yeah, brother. I'm

[13:54] sure people are lining up to fork over countless clams to stay in your Redditor chungus memorabilia. And another post they made saying, "I'm not in the hospitality industry. I'm in the industry of utilizing real estate for

[14:08] profit. It's not my fault the paws didn't pay attention in school and now can't afford a home to ruin." And I guess this person couldn't take the heat because they deleted all of their comments and they even deleted their

[14:21] entire Reddit account. Turns out their house wasn't the only thing that was >> Him closing that account was probably the saddest moment of his life. the hardest thing he's ever had to do right there. And I say had to do, but like he

[14:33] didn't have to. You could have kept that [ __ ] up, man. Why not be proud of it? [ __ ] up, man. Why not be proud of it? You took a stand for being this noble, virtuous Airbnb host who's gracing the world with their property and art for

[14:47] those that can afford it, of course, not the pores or anything that you mention. So yeah, like a lot of hosts aren't taking it super well on like Reddit or like in the comment section on some of these Airbnb posts, but as far as like

[15:03] video crashs or anything from these hosts, really nothing crazy. The big one is the one I showed you where it was pretty tame. Like they were not happy about it, but they didn't like freak out or anything. This is a good change from

[15:18] Airbnb. Like you can try and drum up sympathy like, "Oh, I can't require every guest to do all of these chores while also but no one's going to really be on your side for it." So, I mean, pretty uh

[15:33] pretty wild. Anyway, that's really about it.
