AI Summary

The video discusses the current state of affiliate marketing with Facebook and YouTube ads, explaining that the old playbook is no longer effective due to rising ad costs, the 'scam tax,' and stricter compliance. It offers strategies for adapting to these changes and explores alternative traffic sources.

[00:02]
Old Playbook Dead

The traditional affiliate marketing strategy of running paid traffic on Facebook and YouTube ads to high-converting ClickBank health offers is no longer effective.

[01:20]
Three Headwinds

Affiliates face three major challenges: ad costs (CAC inflation), the scam tax (higher costs for domains deemed low-quality), and compliance (strict rules enforced by AI).

[02:01]
Ad Costs High

CPM relief did not occur after December 25th, leading to high ad costs and customer acquisition costs due to new entrants like telehealth brands.

[02:39]
Scam Tax Explained

Meta charges a premium for ads to domains it deems low-quality or scammy, affecting even honest affiliates and quality offers.

[03:57]
Compliance Challenges

Google and Meta use AI to analyze ads and landing pages for compliance, making it difficult for affiliates to keep ads running.

[05:47]
Not Dead, But Harder

Facebook and YouTube ads are not dead but require adaptation: testing performance e-commerce, lower-ticket info products, mass testing with AI, and cash flow management.

[06:14]
Performance E-Commerce

Emerging category of offers like non-consumable health products, ergonomic pillows, etc., combine speed to sale with traditional product benefits.

[07:20]
Lower Ticket Info Products

Digital products like courses and e-books have lower payouts but higher conversion rates, potentially leading to more profit per ad spend.

[08:28]
Mass Testing with AI

Success now requires launching dozens or hundreds of ads with significant differences, using AI workflows and tools like Cursor, Replit, or Claude Code.

[10:04]
Cash Flow Management

Managing cash flow is critical; using credit cards like Chase Sapphire, Amex Platinum, or Venture X can help spread capital and limit interest.

[11:11]
Alternative Ad Networks

Specialized ad networks like AdsKeeper, Snapchat, and native networks (MGID, Taboola, Revcontent, Outbrain, News Break) offer lower costs and less competition.

[13:08]
Organic Short-Form Video

TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts provide free traffic through interest-based algorithms; content-to-commerce strategy builds trust.

[14:13]
Email Marketing

Building an email list is essential for owning an asset not subject to platform changes; niche newsletters are seeing a resurgence.

Affiliates must either adapt their Facebook and YouTube strategies with AI and new offer types or pivot to alternative channels like native ads, organic short-form video, and email. Building a diversified traffic base and owning an email list are key to long-term success.

[00:02] Facebook and YouTube ads in affiliate marketing is marketing is I don't know, a year ago? Maybe more? but it's true that the old affiliate marketing and paid ads playbook is dead.

[00:16] So, today I will show you what's changed, what's still working, and the new game plan affiliates are using to win big. By the way, if you're new here, my name is Daniel Thrasher and I'm senior content manager at ClickBank. My

[00:28] happenings in affiliate marketing, so you can count on the best information in the industry right here. Now, let's kick things off with how we got here. So, affiliate marketing right now? Well, the

[00:40] reality is there's a big divide. [music] People are either crushing it or they're stuck trying to figure out what's next. Now, the playbook that used to work on ClickBank over the past 5 years was running paid traffic on Facebook ads and

[00:52] YouTube ads to a high-converting, high-payout ClickBank health offer. sales letter. If you had a winning combination of offer plus traffic source plus paid ad, you had all the ingredients you needed to make it rain

[01:07] with affiliate commissions. And that worked like gangbusters for thousands of affiliates for years, but obviously it's different now. So, if you feel like your campaign suddenly got harder to ROI, you're not crazy. However, you're not

[01:20] going to be able to succeed again until you understand what's happening and what struggling to make a profit is because of three new headwinds that have come about recently. And they are ad costs, the scam tax, and compliance. [music]

[01:33] Traditionally, there's a period from December 26th through the end of January after the holidays when ad costs go way down. Combined with New Year's resolutions and a renewed interest in health, this makes Q1 a bonanza that

[01:47] fuels the boom in sales of neutra and health products. The only problem is neutra media buyers didn't see the CPM relief this time around even after December 25th. In plain English, that means the cost to

[02:01] marketing ads is high. And worse, the cost to acquire a customer is also high. This is probably because of massive new entrants into [music] the paid media landscape within health and fitness. GOP-1s, telehealth brands like Hims and

[02:15] Hers, and so on. As a result, affiliates are seeing something called CAC inflation, or an increase in the ad spend needed to actually make an affiliate sale. That's problematic for paid campaigns where your profit margin

[02:27] is, the old middle-of-the-road approach of just optimize a bit and then scale, it's not really an option anymore. Don't do instead later in the video, but for now, we're going to move on to the

[02:39] second headwind, which is the scam tax. So, there was a massive story in November 2025 about Facebook profiting off of scam traffic. According to Reuters, Meta projected that 10% of its 2024 revenue would come from ads for

[02:53] scams and banned goods. And the social media giant estimated that its platforms show users 15 billion scam ads a day. The platform's response to suspected rogue marketers isn't necessarily to ban them, but instead to just charge them a

[03:07] premium for running ads. That's what we're calling a scam tax. If these platforms catch wind of a domain that it deems as low quality or scammy, then anyone who runs ads to that domain will get painted with the same broad brush

[03:20] and have to pay more for their ads. Basically, the ad platform is pricing in marketing. So, right now, some ClickBank affiliates feel like they've been unfairly affected by the scam tax. These days, even honest affiliates and quality

[03:33] offers can be dealing with the higher costs associated with this type of pricing. The scam tax is having a real effect on some products and campaigns, making it impossible to be profitable. It's making it so affiliates have to pay

[03:45] more to get less. That's not where we want to be. And then, we have one more major headwind to be aware of, which is compliance. In the world of affiliate marketing, if the scam tax doesn't get you, strict compliance rules just might.

[03:57] heard about a lot of affiliates having trouble meeting compliance requirements although this can be a challenge on Meta ads as well. Part of the reason is sophisticated AI algorithms. For example, Google can now pull a

[04:11] transcript from videos quickly and find individual lines of things that it means [music] it's now analyzing more elements than ever across the entire page and even on to the seller's pitch page, in order to judge whether you're

[04:26] in compliance with their ad policies. All told, compliance rules are changing hard for affiliates to always know what they're supposed to do to keep their ads up and running. But, staying on top of these changes is key if you want your

[04:39] you're spending thousands of dollars per month, or per week, or even per day, on edge between profitability and not, the risk of your campaign stopping suddenly

[04:51] have your ads or your entire ad account shut down in the middle of scaling, and great that they're just not willing to put themselves out there anymore at all. with all these headwinds, what's the bottom line here? If you're still trying

[05:05] to run the playbook from like 2019 to 2022 associated with paid ads and feels like Facebook and YouTube ads are that today's winners are changing the playbook. So, in effect, you've got two

[05:19] options. You can adapt to the new reality of Facebook and YouTube ads, or different traffic sources. For the rest of this video, I'll share some helpful working for top affiliates on ClickBank today, if you still want to keep running

[05:34] and then I'll break down the current best for affiliates, in case you're ready to try some new traffic channels. So, I started off this video calling time of death very dramatically for Facebook and

[05:47] YouTube ads. And yes, that makes for an exciting intro, but if we're being honest here, these [music] two ad networks aren't literally dead for affiliates, but the environment is more challenging than it used to be to make

[05:59] YouTube ads. So, allow me to share a few key tips that could help you maximize your results and have more success on these platforms. First, there are new biggest headwinds to affiliate success with paid ads were ad costs, the scam

[06:14] tax, and compliance. Obviously, a lot of those are cropping up for affiliates operating in for a while. You'll hear it called any number of names: neutra, health, wellness, supplements, but the truth is any ingestible product is going

[06:27] to have higher scrutiny, and there's a ton of competition. So, how can we still run profitable campaigns without those same headaches? One possibility is with an emerging category of offers called performance e-commerce, or e-com as we

[06:40] say in the biz. We're seeing movement with performance e-com partners like Orbio World and specific products like Venocium, Gorilla Ergo, Elite Boost Men's Patch, and Rocket Languages. Think of this type of affiliate offer as the

[06:53] as-seen-on-TV of the online marketing world. It could be a fancy cutting board, a non-consumable health product, an ergonomic pillow, or a special bracelet. This type of offer combines the speed to sale of direct response,

[07:07] traditional products. For more information on these, we'll actually link over to our latest video featuring top e-commerce products [music] to great alternative to test is the lower ticket info product. We're talking about

[07:20] courses, audio programs, e-books, and so on. Compared to supplements, the average payout of a digital product may seem kind of meh by comparison. After all, if single sale with a top ClickBank

[07:34] supplement, why would you go promote a digital offer that only pays out $50 per sale? Well, this is the perfect scenario for remembering the bigger picture. It's you're deciding [music] which affiliate product to promote. Often, metrics are

[07:48] like moving water from one glass to the next. A higher payout usually coincides have to spend three times as much on paid media to acquire one customer and secure that high payout, maybe getting three or more conversions of a digital

[08:02] product for the same price will lead to more profits. Digital products at a lower price point tend to out convert supplement offers because of the ease of access, a no-brainer price point, and strong marketing and copy. So, if you

[08:15] digital products as an affiliate, it's definitely worth a shot to see what kind of performance you can get. My next tip is mass [music] testing. In this new era, it's all about AI-powered campaigns. AI

[08:28] which is good because that's actually what it takes now. It used to be that on what's working using something like an ad spy tool, tweak those campaigns to work for their own creatives, and then launch with a few iterations to find a

[08:43] >> combination. Then, they could just keep doing small tweaks to finesse those campaigns and get maximum success. But, that's not the way anymore. If you want to succeed on Facebook or YouTube, you're launching dozens or even hundreds

[08:55] of ads at the same time with significant differences among them, and then letting the algorithm cook. This will yield multiple winners, hopefully, that you can rehash in different ad formats to scale those creatives. Now, the real key

[09:08] to doing this at scale is to develop creative AI workflows for each of those individual ad formats that you're using. What you need to do is define your process, design the workflow, and then build an automation with vibe coding

[09:20] using a tool like Cursor, Replit, or Claude Code. Start with a swipe file for that works for the offer you're promoting, and then find or generate an the scroll. Maybe a strange fruit, household item, a body part, something

[09:36] related to the problem that your chosen offer will solve. Now, I will admit that an affiliate may be different than it used to be, but it's still the same comfortable doing the same kind of campaign in a bigger way. So, if you're

[09:51] not testing way more combos of copy and creatives in your campaigns, now is the time to learn how to do it. And then, my third tip, if you're going to stick with YouTube and Facebook, is cash flow management. Cash is king.

[10:04] It's king in the world of media buying, and it's especially king right now with margins that we talked about. On top of having more creatives than ever before, you need to manage your cash flow to survive and thrive in today's media

[10:17] buying landscape. [music] So, first, we recommend looking into the right credit cards. There are cards like the Chase Sapphire card, the Amex Platinum, or the Venture X card that all you let you make purchases on ads. Two of them have a

[10:29] purchases on ads. Two of them have a 250k annual limit, and the other one has ClickBank platinum status unlocked after 250k in sales, you should be covered with any of these cards unless your operation is truly massive. [music] And

[10:43] advice. These cards are helpful for taking capital and spreading it out. can limit your interest payments. One reason ClickBank is such a good network for media buyer affiliates is because we offer twice weekly payments. That allows

[10:57] without worrying about when you'll get paid for all those commissions you're earning. You never want to get caught unable to keep a winning campaign going. So, make sure you're always dialed in on cash flow management. Now, let's talk

[11:11] from Facebook and YouTube ads toward a completely different channel. Here are YouTube [music] ads for affiliates. First, let's talk about specialized ad networks. A lot of top media buyer affiliates have honed their skills with

[11:25] big tech ad platforms like YouTube and Facebook ads over many, many years. You tossing out all of that experience and starting over from scratch on a totally new type of traffic channel, why not find a more boutique ad platform to run

[11:39] main alternatives we're seeing right now AdsKeeper, and Snapchat. These ad platforms tend to have lower costs, more forgiving compliance rules, and certainly less saturation. Although, the

[11:52] user base is smaller and the reach will be more limited. Or, you can consider trying native advertising, which is all those sponsored articles you'll see on of native ads like putting your affiliate offer inside a digital

[12:04] newspaper instead of one of those as seen on TV commercials. Popular native ad networks right now include MGID, Taboola, Revcontent, Outbrain, and a recent partner of ClickBank's News Break. In fact, ClickBank has partnered

[12:17] with News Break to deliver you a $500 ad credit to get you going on native. >> For more information on that, just check the link in the description below. So, been running paid for years and found success with certain headlines and

[12:30] creatives in your chosen niche, all you have to do is run the same or very similar ads on these other platforms. Your previous winners have a good chance network that has less competition. It's kind of like going from competing in the

[12:42] Olympics to dominating a sporting event in your own town. If you haven't run ads as an affiliate before, an ad network like News Break is still a great place to start. You get your ad credit, an intuitive interface, and plenty of

[12:54] smaller ad platforms won't allow you to scale up to the same degree as you would on Facebook or YouTube, but you should be focusing on profit first before you recommendation for an alternative to Facebook and YouTube is a hard pivot

[13:08] into organic. Now, when I say organic, I'm mostly talking about short-form video. TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts are a cheat code for affiliates right now. Why? Because the algorithms are interest-based, not

[13:20] follower-based. Today, you can start an account, post a high-value product review, a problem-solution skit, or any other type of content that works in your people without spending a single dime on ads. The play here is content to

[13:34] commerce, or as we've been saying lately on ClickBank's content team, views to value. The idea is to build a bridge of trust with your face or a faceless theme page on one of these organic social platforms, and then drive that traffic

[13:46] to a link in your bio, or to a captured email list. Mastering short-form video isn't easy. It takes more time to work than hitting on just a successful ad, infinite because your traffic cost is zero. And the best part is if you

[14:00] already have the chops or resources to write copy, edit video creatives, and run paid ads, then you basically have the same skills you need to shift to organic social, all for free. And then the third is email. Finally, we have the

[14:13] which is email. If Facebook and YouTube's platforms are rented land, property you actually own. We're seeing a massive resurgence in niche newsletters over the past year. Instead of buying a cold ad to a VSL, top

[14:27] or sponsoring other people's newsletters. When you have a list of recommendations for health, or finance, or golf, [music] you aren't at the mercy of a scam tax or sudden algorithm change. You can hit send and let the

[14:41] commissions roll in. It's harsh but true, if you aren't building a list in 2026, you don't really have a business, you just have a temporary hobby. I would no matter what other primary traffic channel you're investing in. So, now

[14:55] pivoting to new traffic sources or doubling down intelligently on Facebook and YouTube, the question is, what should you do? If you have a deep background in data and a healthy budget to work with, then I would stay the

[15:08] course on Facebook and YouTube, but evolve. Start using AI workflows and test performance e-com or low-ticket digital products like I mentioned compliance headaches and rising costs, or maybe you don't have a ton of budget

[15:21] start building your own organic and email assets today. The truth is these big tech ad platforms aren't dead, but using them the lazy way is. Over the next 5 years, AI is going to chip away at the low-hanging fruit opportunities

[15:35] in affiliate marketing. The winners will be the ones who diversify their traffic brand, not just a get-rich-quick [music] scheme. And now is the perfect time to start building. Okay, let's take a moment and recap what I shared in this

[15:48] going with Facebook and YouTube, but evolve to the new reality on those platforms, or you'll move on to new traffic channels. If you want to keep shared a few ways to get the most out of both of those platforms. First, you

[16:01] looking into performance e-comm and lower ticket info products. I suggested mass testing, which is using AI and vibe coding to launch and manage hundreds of creatives, and I mentioned cash flow management, which is keeping your cycles

[16:15] tight and reinvesting quickly to scale. And then if you're ready to move beyond those giant platforms, the best alternatives were specialized ad networks, like News Break, Snapchat, and native ads.

[16:27] Organic, leveraging the viral reach of short-form video. And email, building an asset that you actually own and control. Now, I want to hear from you. Which of these trends do you think make [music] the most sense for your business? And is
