AI Summary

This video analyzes a public dispute between an artist and an author, S.E. Kuhn, where the artist falsely accused the author of not paying for a commission. The creator examines the evidence, including screenshots and DMs, to reveal the artist's misleading claims and questionable business practices, including charging for minor revisions and refusing refunds.

[00:00]
Artist's initial accusation

The artist posted on Instagram and Threads claiming a client (later identified as S.E. Kuhn) received artwork and blocked them without paying, leading to a decision to watermark all future work.

[01:19]
Author's rebuttal with receipts

S.E. Kuhn responded with screenshots showing full payment of $180 for the commission, explaining that the collaboration ended due to dissatisfaction with the work and undisclosed revision fees.

[02:26]
Revision fee controversy

The artist charged $15 to fix a missing heel on a sketch, which the creator argues should have been free since it was the artist's error. The creator emphasizes the importance of disclosing revision fees upfront.

[05:22]
Artist's apology and refund

After public backlash, the artist apologized, refunded the money, and deleted the posts, but the creator notes the artist's victim-playing narrative and demands for the author to delete posts.

[07:51]
Other clients' negative experiences

Multiple authors came forward with similar complaints: the artist required full payment upfront, was difficult to work with, and refused refunds for cancellations months in advance, even demanding clients find replacements.

[11:45]
AI usage allegations

A user compiled evidence suggesting the artist uses AI, including admitting to using AI for a trend, endorsing AI animation, following Midjourney accounts, and producing art at an unusually high volume with typical AI artifacts.

[16:54]
Artist's denial of AI use

When asked directly, the artist denied using AI, claiming a long history of drawing and that 'the ideas are all mine,' which the creator finds suspicious and typical of AI artists.

The video concludes that the artist's initial accusation was false and that her behavior, including charging for minor fixes and refusing refunds, is unprofessional. The creator urges viewers to support the author and avoid sending hate to either party.

[00:01] situation between an artist and an author because the artist started out complaining and making posts about this author and then it really kind of backfired on them. So, let's take a look at this situation. And again, please

[00:13] So, this whole thing kicks off again like I said with a bunch of posts the author made. So, this was one of their posts. They posted this to their was supposed to be for the commission. And they write, "Sadly, this happens

[00:26] commission and the client gets the artwork. then they block me and never illustrations with a watermark from now on. It's simply to protect myself and you think it's okay to treat artists like this? Taking everything at face

[00:41] value, if you draw some artwork and do some work and deliver it in its to receive it and they block you and don't pay, that is extraordinarily messed up and that is something that that person should definitely not be

[00:53] doing. The artist also goes on threads and also makes a similar post writing, finish the whole commission and the client just takes the artwork, blocks That's why I'll be sending everything with a watermark blah blah blah blah."

[01:06] comments is like, "Oh, I'm so sorry this happened to you, blah blah blah." Name drop the author and the artist said [ __ ] author. So, you would think that is fine and dandy and this is just like where it ends. Except it isn't because

[01:19] the author came out with some receipts. So, Essie [ __ ] writes, "Hi, so it's come posted on their social media that I did not pay her in full for a commission I worked with her on. I did. I chose to end our collaboration because I wasn't

[01:32] misunderstanding each other. I know blocking her was rash, but I had paid her in full for a commission not even completed when we first started working together." So, here you can see they paid the artist $180 for the commission

[01:45] for a full body and background with commercial licensing. So, these are the gives a bunch of prices. You know, license was 50, backgrounds 50, full body characters 80 for a total of 180. Then they gave the PayPal and the PayPal

[01:58] was sent. The author adds, "I never got a background because I chose to end our the work she had done up until this point, which would have preemptively covered the edits she had done. Edits I wasn't aware of that required extra

[02:11] money to have been completed. This was one point of contention that caused the the fact that revision fees weren't disclosed prior. This happens a lot of piece needs multiple revisions, a lot of

[02:24] times artists will charge for revisions. Typically, they offer a couple for free. revisions for free and then beyond that, they would go and charge x amount of complexity and the stage of where the art is at at this point. Again, if you

[02:39] something that you should disclose prior because otherwise people are going to go you for the full amount of the commission. And I would also add that if the revision is due to your fault, as in the author hypothetically is like, "Oh,

[02:53] I want like a really really big golden dragon in the style of a western dragon looks like a snake." Of course, the author is going to be like, "Hey, that's not what I asked you for." And in my opinion, in a situation like that, you

[03:06] fault was on you, right? It wasn't the author's fault. These are some screenshots the artist provided in reply to a comment asking about these prices didn't disclose the prices, right?" So, in the DMs, a sketch was sent and the

[03:18] to fix her heel, so they're on her? I don't mind if I need to pay for that it's all the way up here, right? But you can see there is a foot here and she's wearing a long gown. She is not wearing a heel on one foot and there is a heel

[03:32] weird though because it looks like the heel is supposed to be hanging off her sense because if you have like a shoe dangling off the foot, it would kind of would kind of like hang like this. She kind of has it where the foot is like

[03:45] this and the heel is just like kind of floating beneath the foot, which I think is odd. Unless the author specifically asked that you draw it in that way, course asked for the heel to actually be on the foot and then the [clears throat]

[03:59] artist was like, "Plus $15. Okay, can you clarify what you want?" And then And I thought this was funny. Somebody responded, "But how do you literally the author more for you to fix it, which I think is really funny." And that's a

[04:11] because like we're being a little bit nitpicky here, right? But unless the character barefoot, that is an artistic choice that you make as an artist, which like can be fine. But then if the author isn't happy with it, I do think you

[04:23] didn't ask for that. And on a side note, this is a sketch. So it's not like the author after you submitted a final product, the author was like, "You know actually don't like her barefooted and I do want her in heels. Then, okay, yeah,

[04:37] because a chunk of time for you to go revise that. This is a sketch. Like, it the heels on her feet and then we move on with our day. It It's really like a minor change because we're at the sketching phase and it also was a

[04:51] interpretation because you gave her one shoe. This is again my interpretation of screenshots that were provided because a commenter asked the artist to provide screenshots. this is what the artist provided. So, but going back to what the

[05:04] closing this chapter, she decided to make a post with the artwork claiming I has done." As we can see up here, that was false. And that was the screenshot have since reached out to her and we've cleared up the misunderstanding, but the

[05:18] name through the mud using a much larger platform than me and slandered my name." Update: She refunded me and then tried to dox me. I am done. Everyone, please happen. Mistakes happen. It's okay. So, these are their communications where the

[05:33] will return your money. I am tired of arguing. Write your email. I want this to end and I am against bullying. And the author says, "I'm not bullying you. you started, has rational strangers calling you out on the internet. That is

[05:47] you to refund me if you wish, but under no circumstance am I asking for one. I you can try to defend yourself and ruin my name." the artist apologizes and is conflict and you, like me, will delete the post so as not to spread garbage." I

[06:02] definitely think it's one where it's like much more beneficial to the artist for the post to be deleted, but you know, and then the refund was sent and money. I can send the work and finish it." And the author is like, "Thank you

[06:14] Please don't work on anything further for me. Please feel free to keep all far. Can you please take on the post you made with my full name?" And the artist very upset. I hope you can understand and you will delete everything." Very

[06:29] wrong and then demand the other person to take down all the posts after you've started it by lying about the situation. These were also more messages that the artist had posted on threads painting themselves more as a victim according to

[06:43] "I drew a piece of work and sent it to the author and I was blocked. Now There was a $15 edit and the person anything. I am upset now. They're

[06:56] but they block me and now they're harassing me. Is this normal? I drew a and I was blocked and now they're cancelling me. What's the reason? Sorry. They wrote the same thing like three times over. Like, what's the reason? Is

[07:11] hurts reading this. Sorry. They continue. There was a $15 edit and the discussing anything. I am upset. Now they're bullying me. I want to finish they're harassing me. Is this normal? Now I'm afraid to send work without a

[07:26] being honest. The way the author is writing is not making what they say sound very convincing. I've never seen anybody write this way. I want to finish drew a work, I sent it to the author, and I was blocked. And what's the

[07:40] it to the author, I was blocked. Now they're canceling me. What's the reason? me is quite absurd. So, in the comment section of the author's post, a couple other people commented their experience working with this artist. An author

[07:53] did get my commission, she was very difficult to work with, and I won't use payment upfront, so what she's claiming is impossible. As in claiming that the author didn't pay because if you take full payment upfront before you even do

[08:07] author replies, "I agree. And the fact so many people missed that and believed writes, I'm trying to get a refund for a September booking I paid 50% deposit offer a refund because that was stated on her profile. It isn't. And then said,

[08:21] "I need to find her a new customer if I want a full refund back." And here are the DMs where the author says, "You haven't even started because I didn't send you references. So, I would like a refund." And the artist says, "You book

[08:33] for September, which mind you, September is like 3 months out from now. I turned you book a place for an illustration in September and make an advanced payment so the place is yours. I turn down others. What's the next step? I can

[08:46] circumstances arise. The author says I canceled and you can book somebody else for my slot in September. Artists do that all the time. Artist says 10% deposit. 10%. I will return 10% of the deposit. And the author says no, I want

[08:58] is so smart, if you have so many people And the artist says, give me a new customer instead of you, and I will return the full amount. The author says, L, that's not my job. I don't want to do

[09:11] ridiculous. You have done no work for me. I am cancelling months in advance. Look for an artist, right? If a client cancels on you, it can be frustrating, slot that could have gone to somebody else, but this person cancels. Now,

[09:25] cancellations do happen all the time. It's never fun when it happens. It will account for. Doesn't mean it's not frustrating, though. But this is a cancellation that is happening three months in advance. So, you can't even

[09:38] like relying on the income of this work to like pay my rent or whatever. It was truly, exactly like those authors said, are so booked and busy you turn down 20 people or according to the artist, many people for this specific booking, well,

[09:54] other people, right? Like, it's weird that they're demanding the author to go and find a replacement. But secondly, the fact they won't return the deposit for work that wasn't completed. I feel like maybe this is a hot take, but you

[10:09] shouldn't get to keep money for work you didn't do. Point blank simple, you know, and again in service industry stuff like nails, whatever, hair, if you cancel the day of, yes, you leave the tech in a position where they cannot rebook you,

[10:23] rightful in my opinion that they should keep the deposit. In this case, again, if you truly are that goat, it will take you 3 months to find somebody to fill your spot. So that to me just reads so

[10:36] greedy. And the fact that they're like, I'll only give you 10% back. This kind of makes you feel and maybe this is my tinfoil hat speaking what some artists do where they take commissions for months in the future make all the future

[10:48] clients pay them you know a deposit or whatever and they spend it in the future might cancel or whatever they can't honor the cancellation because that they shouldn't have spent because it was for work they didn't do either

[11:03] something and somebody says what the f in her entitled scammy butt and the civil as possible, but I can and will take this to hell." Another person said, "Hey, so she's full of [ __ ] I paid a 50% deposit for a September spot and

[11:17] cancelled this morning." She refunded me with no runaround like this. She's changing her story based on people. I am so sorry she's making it difficult. And be nice anymore. I'll take your butt to petty town real fast." Another person

[11:31] cancellations and is panicking about money already spent." And the author says, "A thousand%." So, another user on threads writes, "In the past few days, like 20 requests to check on this artist, a_bankulova.

[11:44] evidence that she uses AI, doesn't seem to mind, and even encourages it when animations." And lastly, there's a strong warning that she probably uses the amount of typical AI poses and how

[11:58] this was the post and it reads, "I don't condone harassment or bullying to any awareness and please do not bully anybody." So, it reads, "I got sent by an anonymous person on how they caught her using AI to participate on the doll

[12:10] should draw it herself." Where the artist responds, "I plan to draw my own illustration. I just created it for fun. I'm not promoting it. I will delete it." And the statement was, "AI creating is

[12:22] hurting us. I know how talented you are and your drawings are amazing. Draw one better. We need to fight against AI, not use it." So here we also literally have them admitting to using AI in like a roundabout way. Here they admitted it

[12:36] where they say, "I plan to draw my own illustration. I just created it for fun. some people trying to give the benefit of the doubt might be like, "Oh, maybe you should created a pit crew." But like come on. Here is them endorsing AI where

[12:50] it's somebody using cling AI to animate their artwork. Right here it says Cling AI 1.0 and they say how beautiful. It's also not a good look if you are an artist who is endorsing people feeding your artwork into AI. Now again, I get

[13:03] People like, "Oh, you hate AI." Whatever you your life, your choice. You could do life. You know what I mean? You can be an artist that chooses to run your can't tell you what you do. But most artists don't condone their artwork

[13:17] being fed to AI for animations or for any other purpose. It's pretty contradictory to be an anti-AI artist and to be okay with your work fed to generative AI, right? That would imply this person is fine with generative AI.

[13:30] use it now? In her commission sheets, there's a lot of artifacts around the that's on her Instagram. Her Instagram is now privated, so I can't see it. She has new ones now on her threads as of a day ago. In the corner, there is what

[13:44] looks like artifacts happening. Now, I saw some comments defending this being Canva templates." So, maybe like Canva has AI. So, like Canva does have AI built into it. Maybe they used it, maybe they didn't. I don't know. But we do

[13:57] have what does to my eyeballs looks like AI artifacts in the corner. Now, here. Another example. You can see kind of artifacting happening here. What to believe she might be tracing AI, but there's no hard proof. I received a

[14:12] and to me it seemed clear she was tracing something. I just don't know exactly what. A lot of her artworks have very typical AI poses. She demands a lot of money for minor changes during the sketching process. We saw that one. She

[14:25] demanded $15 to put a shoe on the foot in the sketch. Her style suddenly fantasy with no gradual change. And lastly, she posts many artworks per day, basically write, you know, don't get me wrong, like sometimes with my stuff, I'm

[14:39] day if I want to, but it doesn't include communication with clients or finding references. And even though her style is more on the simple side, I doubt she's single day. So, there's reason to believe something is helping her. Still,

[14:52] she clearly used AI in other ways. So, that's why I'm doing this post. And it adds another point. She's rude. So, it reads, "After one of my clients that I this is how she rudely replied." It reads, "I sent you the commission

[15:04] included, so thank you for the failed collaboration. Have a nice day." And the back before the artist did the commission months in advance, and OP So, here we have context about the situation with the author where here we

[15:17] can see the sketch and they wanted $15 to put the shoe on the foot and a shoe the sketch and it's so small, this is just so odd to me because like the shoe is literally floating. It's not attached to anything. It's not drawn properly.

[15:32] an artist and you should fix that for free. OP ads, as an artist myself, I can longer than 3 minutes to change. In my experience, it's AI users that are kind to changes. Because yeah, if they generated it with AI, they would have to

[15:47] AI again, asking AI to make the changes, and then trying to like modify to to like make it look not AI. Whereas, if they drew it themselves, they just, you know, okay, cut out the shoe, paste it on, or draw another shoe. takes you like

[16:00] a couple minutes max. All right, we're done. And again, for me, it's just like, why was it drawn like this in the first place with only one shoe floating on one foot? And the person that was involved in the situation for the failed collab

[16:12] passive aggressive message says failed collab laughing emoji. To add to her solidified I need to get my money back was because of the 20 people she followed as of last week, one was a major AI midjourney account. It didn't

[16:25] with an artist that supports generative AI. And here you can say they followed MJ Play Art or Midjourney Play, which is literally a midjourney account. Again, it's like, if you are an artist who doesn't like AI, doesn't support

[16:39] generative AI accounts? It literally just makes no sense. And people in their comments have their feelings. A user writes, "OMG, stop. I just got art from uses AI and she told me no. She sent me a sketch and everything beforehand. I

[16:53] can see the communications. It was quoted for $260. The PayPal was given there's no usage of AI." The artist says, "Well, you can look at my Instagram profile and see I've been drawing for a long time, even before I

[17:07] created AI, and that's why I'm against it and always draw. I also create children's books. The ideas are all mine. I've won many awards and published reviews, so don't worry." And somebody says, she writes, "Even before I create

[17:21] AI." And another person adds, and quote, "The ideas are all mine." End quote. meaning what exactly the images aren't. It's definitely really interesting. So, author's first language. So, some benefit of doubt to like, you know,

[17:34] like language barrier things. They seem know, even before I created AI is a very interesting statement to say. And then also, the ideas are all mine is a very interesting statement. That's something

[17:47] that you always see with like AI artists. Artists, right? People who seem like they do more than they actually did. So, because they didn't actually draw it themselves and they prompted it, right? They like to always

[18:00] claim their ideas are worth a thousand buckets of gold and they're like, "I along." There's a quote that goes something like, "Ideas are a dime a dozen. It's execution that counts." Everyone likes to say, "Oh my god, my

[18:13] idea is like the best idea ever." Dude, everybody has good ideas, man. Okay, not come to reality. That's where all the work comes in. And because, you know, AI did all of the work, they like to like really hammer in on the emphasis and the

[18:26] importance of their ideas specifically. It's just one thing I see. It's like the person from your small town high school that kind of peaked in high school. So, been good. I could have been great. I had so much potential. I did this. Well,

[18:39] know? Hey, no shade, no tea. If all you want to do is bum around, that's a that as long as you're not inconveniencing other people. But, you talking about, "Oh, I had this. I could have done this. I could have been that.

[18:51] So is like a million other people, but there's only like a select amount of what happened? Slight little tangent. Sorry. But I always just think the always feels a bit telling because if you're an artist, the ideas are all

[19:06] yours because you drew it yourself. You wouldn't have to like sell that to didn't use AI. You know what I mean? So, I'm curious about your thoughts on this And don't send hate to any parties involved. But please support the

[19:18] original author S. Ekun because you know having people come out and make false and the third is not cool at all when was just being extremely difficult for no reason. That's always really really

[19:31] subscribe. Don't forget to check me on Etsy. I have digital art there. I also have a coffee with free resources. And I am cooking up some merch. We did a photo shoot soon. It looks really cute. I just need to edit some pictures because some

[19:43] I'm going to scrub that away with a clone stamp tool in Photoshop. And I also stream on Twitch three days a week. Mondays and Saturdays at 600 p.m. PST and Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. PST where I do a podcast with my friend. So, to

[19:55] catch you all there on another video. Peace.
