[02:20] only one who thinks that so let's take a

[02:22] look at why oh and by the way if it

[02:25] wasn't obvious now if you're a weirdo

[02:29] who's never watched Game of Thrones

[02:30] because you don't mind missing out on

[02:31] cultural media milestones I'll explain

[02:34] the general premise for you the story

[02:35] revolves around a bunch of families in

[02:37] the land of Westeros Westeros is a

[02:39] fantasy land with dragons and magic but

[02:42] dragons and magic are pretty rare the

[02:44] aforementioned families are all fighting

[02:45] one another because [ __ ] happens and the

[02:47] King dies and it's a series about

[02:49] political intrigue realistic complex

[02:51] characters and boobs however most of

[02:54] these concepts kind of get [ __ ] up by

[02:56] the end of the series it kind of stops

[02:58] being a show about characters and

[03:00] politics characters used to get by on

[03:02] their wit and creativity but now it's

[03:04] just fighting remember how I said magic

[03:07] and Dragons were pretty rare well not

[03:09] anymore when the writers don't know what

[03:11] to do we either get magic a dragon or a

[03:14] fight and sometimes we get all three at

[03:16] once and that's because the writers are

[03:20] not very good at writing this show and

[03:22] yes I know that sounds a little weird so

[03:25] I'm gonna explain the Song of Ice and

[03:27] Fire series is written by george RR

[03:29] martin and a good 80% of the show is

[03:31] adapted from these books and about 75%

[03:34] of that is actually really good

[03:36] now the show itself is written by David

[03:38] Benioff and DB Weiss or has a lot of

[03:41] people like to call them D&D now for

[03:43] what it's worth they are pretty good at

[03:45] adapting this material for the screen

[03:47] they have a good way of cutting the

[03:49] unnecessary stuff accentuating the

[03:51] important elements that might not be

[03:52] immediately important and presenting it

[03:54] in a fresh and engaging way now a lot of

[03:56] people [ __ ] on these guys because of the

[03:58] recent seasons but let's not forget that

[04:00] the good stuff is partly their work too

[04:02] so if these guys are pretty good at

[04:04] adapting existing material then what's

[04:06] the problem well the problem is that

[04:08] around season 4 & 5 they ran out of

[04:11] books see unfortunately for them the

[04:13] books aren't finished and when they

[04:14] signed on to do this show they probably

[04:16] thought the series would be over by then

[04:18] but then we all found out the hard way

[04:20] that george RR martin is kind of lazy i

[04:24] mean it's kind of hard to say that

[04:26] because you can't really get a

[04:27] the guy the first three books have a

[04:29] mere two years between each of them and

[04:31] that's about normal that's a pretty

[04:33] quick pace then there are five years

[04:35] between books three and four then six

[04:37] years between books four and five and

[04:40] book five came out eight years ago with

[04:42] no release on book six in sight and

[04:45] they're still supposed to be a book

[04:46] after that one now my personal theory

[04:51] has always remained that Jorge kind of

[04:52] knew he wasn't gonna be able to finish

[04:54] the books in time for the show so he

[04:56] just decided to wait for the show to

[04:57] finish which is honestly the better

[04:59] marketing choice even though I don't

[05:01] know if he really cares about that I

[05:02] mean think about it what if the show was

[05:04] in like season six way after they're

[05:05] done adapting the books directly then he

[05:07] releases a book with completely

[05:09] different stuff in it who the [ __ ] is

[05:11] gonna read it now when the show is still

[05:12] on it would just be confusing to consume

[05:14] two stories named the same thing but

[05:17] with different [ __ ] happening I think he

[05:18] knows that the show is like the most

[05:20] popular thing ever and if he releases

[05:22] the book it's just unnecessary

[05:23] competition it's better to just do the

[05:25] books after the hype of the show has

[05:27] died down a bit but either way the point

[05:29] is that D&D ran out of books they had a

[05:32] few tidbits from George but that's about

[05:34] it

[05:34] but outside of those few elements the

[05:36] show just had to start making [ __ ] up

[05:38] and these guys aren't really good at

[05:41] that once they started writing original

[05:43] content we got some of the worst plot

[05:45] lines in Game of Thrones history we also

[05:47] got some of the worst dialogue not to

[05:54] mention fight scenes also start popping

[05:55] up randomly to distract the viewer and

[05:57] fill up time Game of Thrones used to

[05:59] have like one fight a season if you were

[06:02] lucky but in the later seasons it feels

[06:04] like fights just get added for no reason

[06:06] why doesn't he have a shirt on this

[06:08] whole scenario reminds me of Full Metal

[06:09] Alchemist

[06:10] where the original anime ran out of

[06:12] manga to adapt so they just started

[06:14] making [ __ ] up and it got pretty weird

[06:19] except we don't have any books to show

[06:21] us what we're missing out on but if you

[06:22] ask me it's obvious yeah

[06:41] based on material directly provided by

[06:43] George and it's so [ __ ] weird and

[06:46] cool and creative like bran sends his

[06:49] mind back in time and like time splices

[06:52] jung-ho doors mind so then he just

[06:54] damages his brain forever I can't even

[06:57] explain it properly it's so conceptual

[06:59] and strange that I know these goobers

[07:01] didn't make it up themselves

[07:02] unfortunately the show just stopped

[07:04] being creative once they had to do it

[07:06] themselves before it was a nuanced

[07:08] fantasy series that submerged your

[07:09] expectations in interesting ways the

[07:12] main character from season one is your

[07:13] traditional fantasy protagonist he's so

[07:16] righteous and good-natured that he

[07:17] almost solves all of the problems of the

[07:19] series right away and he can't have that

[07:21] so they kill him

[07:22] one trope inversion that I've always

[07:24] loved is with revenge and how the series

[07:26] deals with it in a traditional fantasy

[07:28] story were taught to root for characters

[07:30] that are driven by vengeance because we

[07:32] see it as justice you know if you do

[07:34] something bad you should be punished for

[07:35] it but A Song of Ice and Fire takes this

[07:37] and twists it vengeful characters are

[07:40] almost always punished kill them all

[07:45] every one of them kill them all

[07:50] we have to get the girls back and then

[07:55] we will kill them oh they're usually

[08:01] blinded by their lust for revenge and

[08:03] more often than not they pay a steep

[08:04] price for it Arya's whole deal in

[08:06] earlier seasons is about her wanting to

[08:08] exact her vengeance on the people that

[08:10] ruined her life and it's kind of

[08:11] childish every character she interacts

[08:13] with tells her that her goal is stupid

[08:15] and that it's not worth it and for most

[08:17] of her are key kind of looks like it's

[08:19] going to allow her to shed her old ways

[08:20] and give up on her petty quest but then

[08:23] the writers kind of forgot what they

[08:24] were doing with her and she becomes the

[08:25] [ __ ] Punisher she does eventually

[08:27] learn to give up on her quest but not

[08:29] because it's Petty and wrong but because

[08:31] everybody she wanted to kill is already

[08:33] dead everybody else is punished for

[08:35] vengeance but Arya gets to walk away

[08:37] scot-free

[08:38] in fact almost every main character is

[08:40] ruined by the end of this show the

[08:42] personal stories become forgotten and

[08:44] they kind of become the standard version

[08:45] of themselves it's like the writers took

[08:47] the base qualities of each character and

[08:49] just use those for the rest of the show

[08:51] and decided they didn't want to write

[08:52] any more character arcs I honestly can't

[08:54] think of a single character that has a

[08:56] good arc in this season aside from Theon

[08:59] the characters also become incredibly

[09:01] stupid I mean just listen to the writers

[09:03] explain why Danny couldn't see the fleet

[09:05] of pirate ships before her dragon gets

[09:07] shot down by them while Danny kind of

[09:09] forgot about they aren't fleet and

[09:11] Euron's forces she forgot yeah the

[09:14] characters are all stupid every single

[09:17] one of them it's like everybody dropped

[09:19] like 20 IQ points in these last two

[09:21] seasons so let's go ahead and look at

[09:23] all the characters and how the writers

[09:24] [ __ ] them up by the end of the show

[09:26] Daenerys Targaryen alright let's just

[09:28] get this girl out of the way early

[09:29] because most people are probably here to

[09:31] watch me [ __ ] on her Danny obviously

[09:33] suffers the most in this season she goes

[09:36] from being a slightly petulant but

[09:37] confident young ruler to a

[09:39] megalomaniacal tyrant in just a few

[09:42] episodes yes a few episodes now there

[09:46] are a few people out there saying that

[09:47] her fall to the dark side was

[09:49] foreshadowed and these people are not

[09:53] correct

[09:54] Danny's fall to the dark side is more

[09:57] abrupt and jarring than anakin

[09:59] skywalker's and somehow she still has a

[10:01] higher body count than him

[10:02] Daenerys this whole arc has been a

[10:04] about her proving that she can break the

[10:06] cycles of the world you know the name

[10:08] breaker of chains is supposed to be

[10:09] literal and figurative she wants to

[10:12] break the cycle of her family line her

[10:14] dad and brother were [ __ ] nut jobs

[10:16] and she wants to prove that she can be a

[10:17] powerful ruler without being a tyrant

[10:20] she knows that Westeros has been at war

[10:23] for a long time and that the people

[10:24] ruling the land have been corrupt and

[10:26] evil she wants to prove that the land

[10:28] can thrive under the right person she

[10:34] wants to end the cycle of suffering that

[10:36] everybody's been experiencing yeah they

[10:39] totally [ __ ] her up now I'll be honest

[10:41] I never really liked Daenerys part of

[10:43] the reason that I never finished the

[10:44] rest of the books is because I hate

[10:46] enjoying a chapter and then turning the

[10:48] page and seeing this [ __ ] she's the most

[10:50] boring character to follow but that

[10:52] doesn't mean I wanted her arc to get

[10:54] thrown in the dumpster she goes from

[10:55] being normal confident strong Daenerys

[10:57] in one episode to being kind of sad that

[11:00] nobody in Westeros is her friend -

[11:02] killing countless innocent people that's

[11:04] a pretty drastic jump if we're being

[11:07] honest now the current theory is that

[11:09] George told D&D that this is what was

[11:11] gonna happen to Daenerys by the end of

[11:13] the story and honestly I'm on board with

[11:16] that I think that's the case but if that

[11:18] is the case they should have known to

[11:20] actually cultivate this Ark from long

[11:22] before this because as it stands it

[11:25] comes out of nowhere actions speak

[11:27] louder than words and Dany has always

[11:29] talked a lot of [ __ ] but her actions are

[11:31] completely separate threatening your

[11:33] enemies with fire and blood is way

[11:35] different than killing innocent people

[11:36] indiscriminately if your only example of

[11:39] her having a dark streak is that she

[11:41] executes people who betray or disobey

[11:44] her well I got news for you every

[11:46] [ __ ] character does that in this

[11:48] world John does it all the time the

[11:50] first lesson that the series teaches us

[11:53] in the very first episode is that if you

[11:57] are an authority figure it's your

[11:58] responsibility to do what you got to do

[12:00] even if that means carrying out an

[12:02] execution this act is never shown as a

[12:05] bad thing in this series ever so no I do

[12:09] not accept it as a foreshadowing for her

[12:12] turning evil when at this point it's

[12:15] basically a societal norm

[12:17] now yeah if you really really really

[12:19] wanted to make her evil it's totally

[12:22] doable the seeds are there but they

[12:24] haven't grown into something that's

[12:26] convincing as far as we know based on

[12:28] everything that the show has actually

[12:30] shown us from her she's been nothing but

[12:33] kind and benevolent when it comes to

[12:35] innocent people I also want to point out

[12:37] that Stannis only killed one innocent

[12:39] child and every viewer of the show hated

[12:41] him for it he was seriously the most

[12:43] hated character on the show and yes this

[12:45] is the same show that has this [ __ ]

[12:46] kid

[12:47] I'm not tired a lot of people are saying

[12:51] oh well since she got to Westeros her

[12:54] friends have died and nobody nobody

[12:56] likes her okay

[13:00] Arya has lost more family and friends

[13:02] than Daenerys and she isn't a mass

[13:04] murderer okay well she kind of is but in

[13:07] a different way this is some of the most

[13:08] blatant character assassination that

[13:10] I've ever seen on a TV show and it's no

[13:13] wonder why everybody immediately turned

[13:15] on the show after this moment it's not

[13:16] just because women and children are

[13:18] being toasted by our main character we

[13:20] don't really care that something

[13:22] upsetting is happening it's Game of

[13:23] Thrones nobody really gives a [ __ ] about

[13:25] that the problem is that we're being

[13:27] told that this is a genuine character

[13:29] arc when it's really not in fact I can

[13:31] go ahead and fix most of these problems

[13:33] with just one solution if you completely

[13:36] removed the bells of surrender then the

[13:39] scene would make a little more sense

[13:41] think about it what if Daenerys was you

[13:43] know trying to take over the city but

[13:45] Cersei just wouldn't surrender like no

[13:47] matter what happened Cersei just

[13:49] wouldn't do it

[13:50] then Daenerys has to make a choice she

[13:52] can either give up which she probably

[13:54] wouldn't do or just keep attacking the

[13:56] city which would put innocent lives at

[13:58] risk that's a much more natural and

[14:00] reasonable solution than her hearing

[14:03] that the whole city has surrendered and

[14:04] just deciding to kill them anyway but

[14:07] perhaps it's good that people see that

[14:09] Daenerys Stormborn made every effort to

[14:11] avoid bloodshed I'm ghost ride the whip

[14:14] crazy brand Stark bran is probably the

[14:17] biggest example of wasted potential in

[14:19] the entire series he becomes the most

[14:21] powerful being in the entire world but

[14:23] all he does is sit around and make

[14:25] people feel bad any personality that he

[14:27] once had is now stripped away which

[14:29] could be kind of cool but they don't

[14:31] actually do anything with it I honestly

[14:33] thought he was gonna reach his ultimate

[14:34] peak in the Battle of Winterfell because

[14:36] his story is completely tied to the

[14:38] White Walkers he has no purpose outside

[14:41] of that storyline but even there he

[14:43] doesn't [ __ ] do anything the writers

[14:46] don't want to get too weird so they just

[14:48] leave him be because they're not

[14:49] confident enough to write weird creative

[14:51] [ __ ] that revolves around him they never

[14:53] use his abilities in creative ways this

[14:55] is a guy that can see through all of

[14:57] time and space and the writers have no

[14:59] idea what to do with him and know him

[15:02] randomly becoming the king isn't exactly

[15:04] what I wanted either again I expected

[15:07] something a little bit more nuanced

[15:08] after doing nothing for a whole season

[15:11] him getting chosen as king feels kind of

[15:14] anticlimactic remember this is the

[15:16] ending that D&D were desperately rushing

[15:18] to get to and once you remember that it

[15:20] makes things seem kind of lame in fact

[15:23] the whole last episode feels like that

[15:24] it doesn't really feel like the finale

[15:26] at all it really feels like they just so

[15:28] desperately wanted to get to this point

[15:30] and it doesn't feel earned it just don't

[15:33] feel right Jon Snow so if we go off the

[15:36] fact that the writers have reverted to

[15:38] traditional fantasy tropes then we can

[15:40] say that Jon Snow is the hero of this

[15:42] story and the other seasons have very

[15:44] much supported that idea as well and to

[15:46] be honest I think that this is fine as

[15:48] the show has drifted away from George's

[15:50] story Jon has had kind of a hero's

[15:52] journey but now he just stands around

[15:55] either making this face or this face he

[15:59] also suffers from dumb [ __ ] syndrome

[16:01] like everybody else

[16:02] for some reason half the characters

[16:03] completely go brain-dead once they meet

[16:05] Daenerys and Jon gets it the worst after

[16:07] having sex with her one time he loses

[16:09] all agency as a character and I should

[16:12] probably mention right now that the Jon

[16:13] and Daenerys romance does not work as

[16:16] you probably noticed this show suffers

[16:18] from moving way too quickly and this is

[16:20] a problem that these writers have they

[16:22] write the ending and then the characters

[16:24] just start shifting around it so they

[16:26] can just get to that

[16:27] and this might work in a movie but in a

[16:30] slow-paced show like Game of Thrones it

[16:32] does not work and that's why John and

[16:34] Danny don't work the second that they

[16:37] meet they have romantic tension and this

[16:39] is in the second-to-last season these

[16:41] characters have never met before they

[16:43] meet and they fall in love in the span

[16:45] of just a few episodes now no it's not

[16:48] like they're giving each other goo-goo

[16:49] eyes from the first scene but as a

[16:51] viewer you immediately realize oh yeah

[16:54] they're gonna [ __ ] Danny going nutso and

[16:56] the events that unfold around that are

[16:58] all things that depend on their romance

[17:00] it's basically the most violent love

[17:02] story on television which could be kind

[17:05] of a cool story but there should be more

[17:07] to this story because John's whole

[17:09] purpose in this last season is oh my new

[17:12] girlfriend is kind of a dick he takes a

[17:15] very passive role into the literal last

[17:18] episode and you know what really

[17:20] wrinkles my balls the fact that this

[17:22] series does nothing with John's previous

[17:25] storylines why the [ __ ] did John come

[17:27] back to life what the hell are they need

[17:29] him for was killing Daenerys his entire

[17:31] purpose in the whole series but that

[17:34] isn't even the worst of it

[17:35] the worst is how John being the son of

[17:37] Rhaegar and Lyanna hits a complete dead

[17:40] end in the story the only thing that

[17:41] comes out of it is Dany getting mad

[17:43] about it the possibilities of this story

[17:51] reason these guys got the job to adapt

[18:02] wiped his hands clean on the napkin and

[18:04] he said so who do you think Jon Snow his

[18:08] real mother is this was a test it was it

[18:10] was a test absolutely a test question

[18:12] they predicted it way back then but they

[18:15] didn't do anything with it

[18:17] jon has no significance in the story he

[18:19] has no stake in the events of the season

[18:21] and he doesn't do anything until the

[18:23] very end and then the ship is asked away

[18:25] forever Jon's entire purpose in these

[18:27] last few seasons was just to kill

[18:30] Daenerys remember when I said the

[18:32] writers wrote the ending first do you

[18:35] believe me now

[18:36] Cersei Lannister Cersei was one of my

[18:38] favorite characters in the whole

[18:40] Cirie's and then she turned into lex

[18:43] [ __ ] luthor before she had some

[18:45] subtlety to her character you never

[18:47] really knew what she was planning and

[18:49] what's important is that her goals were

[18:50] always a little justified the thing is

[18:52] the series has always prided itself on

[18:54] having characters that are not strictly

[18:56] good or evil and characters that are

[18:58] good or evil are punished even when

[19:01] Cersei or another character does

[19:02] something completely [ __ ] up we

[19:04] understand why but that is until she

[19:05] goes full Batman villain and bombs her

[19:08] own city this [ __ ] comes out of left

[19:10] field so hard and thinking back on it

[19:12] always makes me laugh a lot of people

[19:16] like this scene and yeah it's kind of

[19:18] cool but I don't know I don't really

[19:20] look back fondly on it on one hand I

[19:23] commend the writers for doing something

[19:24] batshit insane all on their own but on

[19:27] the other hand it doesn't really fit her

[19:28] character or the show for that matter

[19:31] once we started nuking cities in my

[19:33] medieval fantasy series I kind of

[19:35] started to mentally check out she was

[19:37] always a character of subtlety and this

[19:39] [ __ ] ain't subtle in the slightest

[19:42] instead of being cold and calculating

[19:44] Cersei just kind of turns into a dumb

[19:46] evil bad guy and I also should point out

[19:49] that I really don't like it when

[19:50] characters just die from rubble falling

[19:53] on top of them it's 2019 and we are

[19:56] still dropping buildings on characters

[19:57] like we did with Captain Kirk and if you

[19:59] know me I hate two kinds of deaths in

[20:02] media dying from rubble falling on you

[20:05] and dying by falling into a pillar of

[20:07] fire Sandor Clegane

[20:09] now this one's kind of short if you ask

[20:10] me this guy has no reason being in the

[20:13] show anymore

[20:14] eventually this show just decided to

[20:15] start bringing back characters just for

[20:17] fanservice

[20:18] what the [ __ ] is he even here for he

[20:20] decides to just join the good guys and

[20:22] keep fighting things his character

[20:24] continues to exist solely because the

[20:27] fans like him and that's never been how

[20:29] this series operates when a character's

[20:31] role in this story ends they're usually

[20:33] killed or kicked out yes the cleganebowl

[20:36] is a meme but it's not why I'm watching

[20:38] Game of Thrones the final battle between

[20:40] the Hound and the mountain is indicative

[20:42] and why I don't like this series anymore

[20:44] it used to be a very tightly written

[20:46] drama about characters with deep unseen

[20:49] motivations with a rich world in history

[20:51] but now I'm watching a guy

[20:53] came back to life fighting another guy

[20:55] who came back to life in a crumbling

[20:58] Tower while a dragon goes sicko mode

[21:00] above them this fight is so stupid

[21:02] it feels like the fight between

[21:03] Wolverine and Sabretooth from x-men

[21:05] origins wait a minute oh god damn it you

[21:08] wrote that to Tyrion Lannister now I

[21:11] used to joke that good old Tyrone

[21:13] Lancaster was the main character of Game

[21:15] of Thrones and he's a character that we

[21:17] can all relate to he's witty and he

[21:19] survives because he's [ __ ] smart but

[21:21] then once he teams up with Daenerys he

[21:23] gets a dose of the dum dum juice his

[21:25] whole plan for two seasons is to just

[21:28] reason with Cersei and seasons 1 2 3 and

[21:32] 4 he constantly talks about how you

[21:34] can't reason with her but now for some

[21:36] reason he thinks that he can just get

[21:37] through to her he tries like three

[21:39] [ __ ] times and it never works buddy

[21:42] listen she [ __ ] hates you from her

[21:44] perspective

[21:45] you killed her mom and her dad and her

[21:47] son and you ran away she will never

[21:50] listen to you and I don't understand why

[21:51] you think otherwise this is a series

[21:53] we're making mistakes gets you killed

[21:55] the red wedding isn't just some random

[21:57] [ __ ] that happened for the hell of it

[21:59] Tyrion hasn't made a smart choice in

[22:01] almost four seasons but he hasn't been

[22:03] punished even once

[22:04] in fact he gets rewarded I didn't even

[22:08] want him to die either I just wanted him

[22:10] to be smarter why is that so much to ask

[22:13] he's bringing all the dead people back

[22:15] to life and they put the women and

[22:17] children in a crypt with all the dead

[22:20] people so you're in he's smart but it's

[22:25] not that smart

[22:26] you're on Greyjoy Euron is honestly the

[22:29] funniest character in the whole show the

[22:31] writers decided to just add another

[22:33] person to the story way too late into

[22:36] the series and I can't even say he was

[22:38] ruined by the end of the series because

[22:39] everything about him just started off

[22:41] being stupid whenever he's in a scene I

[22:43] just never feel like he belongs there

[22:45] he feels like a guy who just wandered

[22:47] onto set from another show I honestly

[22:49] think the writers realise that they ran

[22:51] out of bad guys after killing the

[22:52] Bolton's his role is simply to extend

[22:55] the Greyjoy storyline a little bit more

[22:57] and to give Jamie someone to fight

[22:59] before he dies Brienne of Tarth Brienne

[23:02] is fine I actually I think she's fine I

[23:04] like her Jaime Lannister now this one is

[23:07] personal you see Jamie was my favorite

[23:10] character in this entire show he had so

[23:12] much depth and subtlety to his character

[23:14] in the early seasons the first thing he

[23:16] does is [ __ ] his sister and throw a

[23:18] little boy out a window so you might

[23:20] immediately think okay he's the villain

[23:23] but no that's not quite the case that

[23:26] assessment is completely intentional the

[23:28] series wants you to think that he's the

[23:29] bad guy because even the whole universe

[23:31] kind of treats him like a bad guy he's

[23:33] called the Kingslayer and not really in

[23:35] a nice way him killing the Mad King

[23:37] before the story started is kind of seen

[23:39] as a slimy event in the history of the

[23:41] world but if he hadn't killed the Mad

[23:43] King when he did everybody would have

[23:45] died anyway

[23:45] he knew that he wouldn't really go down

[23:47] as a hero but he did it because he knew

[23:49] it was the right thing he assassinated

[23:51] an evil dictator but since he did it in

[23:53] a backhand in manner everybody hates him

[23:55] this is meant to play on our initial

[23:57] perception of him his character is all

[23:59] about reputation we see his first act

[24:01] pushing a little wee boy out of a window

[24:03] and we immediately draw an assumption

[24:05] about him when in actuality he's a guy

[24:07] who constantly puts himself in harm's

[24:09] way to protect other people the things I

[24:11] do for love is a line that can sum up

[24:13] his entire character he's fine with

[24:15] putting his own ass in the fire if it

[24:17] protects somebody else he does

[24:19] dishonorable things for the honor of his

[24:21] loved ones his selflessness is

[24:23] self-destructive and it tears him apart

[24:24] this is arguably one of the most complex

[24:27] characters in the entire series but what

[24:30] do D&D do with this character well after

[24:33] he goes on a journey of self-discovery

[24:34] he [ __ ] Brienne for no reason then

[24:39] breaks her heart to go and die with his

[24:41] abusive partner awesome one of the last

[24:44] things he does is he beats Iran in a

[24:46] fight because for some reason the

[24:48] writers have decided that his new arc is

[24:50] just learning how to fight again him

[24:52] losing his sword hand is supposed to be

[24:54] significant for other reasons and this

[24:57] is a problem that's seen with the Hound

[24:58] as well now we have a show where the

[25:01] character resolution is seen in combat

[25:04] fight scenes are the ways that we finish

[25:06] up character arcs instead of the

[25:07] character actually learning something or

[25:09] becoming a different person by the end

[25:11] of it his whole arc up to this point has

[25:13] shown us that he's meant to leave Cersei

[25:15] forever he's supposed to shed that life

[25:17] personally I always thought he was

[25:19] destined to kill her that's

[25:20] common theory for a lot of people but no

[25:23] he intentionally breaks the heart of

[25:25] someone he cares about and then the

[25:27] ceiling kills him here's a line that he

[25:29] has in his last episode and it's a line

[25:31] that should solidify the entire problem

[25:33] with his character if not for yourself

[25:35] if not further and for every one of the

[25:37] million people in that city innocent or

[25:39] otherwise to be honest I never really

[25:41] cared much for them innocent

[25:44] or otherwise so you're telling me that a

[25:46] man who sacrificed his own honor by

[25:48] murdering the Mad King in an effort to

[25:50] save countless innocent people doesn't

[25:53] care about the people spendy commanded

[26:00] you to kill your own father

[26:08] did you guys even watch the show Sansa

[26:12] Stark now Sansa was okay I started

[26:15] writing this script around episode two

[26:17] and I really didn't have a problem with

[26:19] her up to that point like honestly it's

[26:21] really easy not to [ __ ] her up just let

[26:23] her be the strong independent woman but

[26:25] no even she's inconsistent first of all

[26:28] she has this really bad moment where the

[26:30] Hound is like hey I'm sorry all this bad

[26:32] stuff has been happening to you

[26:34] and she says no it's okay I like that

[26:37] all the bad stuff happened to me because

[26:38] now I'm a badass this really shows how

[26:41] these guys don't know how to write women

[26:43] because they just had one of their main

[26:44] female characters say yeah I'm glad I

[26:47] got tortured and sexually assaulted it

[26:49] made me [ __ ] cool so I'd go back and

[26:51] do it all again

[26:52] what the [ __ ] then to top it all off

[26:54] when Jon goes to her and says hey this

[26:56] is the most personal secret that I have

[26:59] Ned Stark your own father took this

[27:01] secret to the grave don't tell anyone

[27:05] she [ __ ] tells everybody Sansa

[27:11] spreading Jon's secret is the thing that

[27:13] caused all this [ __ ] so yeah go

[27:16] ahead and defend her actions but as far

[27:18] as I'm concerned this is her fault too

[27:21] Arya Stark and finally we have my least

[27:24] favorite character in the entire series

[27:26] which is kind of sad because I used to

[27:28] really like Arya now she stands as a

[27:31] shining example of what I don't like

[27:33] about what

[27:34] this series has become she's the only

[27:36] character that the rules don't apply to

[27:38] I'm watching all the main characters

[27:40] struggling and fighting for their lives

[27:42] and then there's a hard cut to this [ __ ]

[27:45] so many people loved Arya and I

[27:47] legitimately feel like an [ __ ]

[27:48] whenever I complain about her because

[27:50] it's hard to argue these points without

[27:52] looking like a neckbeard but I just

[27:53] don't really think this super-powered

[27:55] version of her fits the story from the

[27:57] end of season 1 into season 2 she

[27:59] decides I'm gonna be a badass and I'm

[28:01] gonna learn how to fight and I'm gonna

[28:03] kill the people I don't like and that's

[28:04] just her character for the entire show

[28:07] she just makes a decision and then the

[28:09] world supports that decision and then

[28:11] that's just what happens to her and I

[28:13] don't really like using the term plot

[28:15] armor but when I see her get stabbed in

[28:17] the gut multiple times and then just

[28:19] walk it off

[28:20] there's kind of a problem there when

[28:22] King's Landing is being completely

[28:23] destroyed and Arya is the only person

[28:25] who survives then I start to see a

[28:28] problem she teleports from place to

[28:31] place she doesn't give a [ __ ] about

[28:32] anybody and she's just too strong she

[28:36] manages to sneak past all the zombies

[28:38] and all of the knight Kings generals and

[28:40] then she just jumps his ass and shanks

[28:43] him he dies faster than the mountain did

[28:45] they could have just sent Arya to kill

[28:48] Cersei after this there's no reason to

[28:50] believe that Arya would have had any

[28:52] trouble with it just sneak Aria into the

[28:54] city let her disguise herself as a maid

[28:56] or something and then just have her stab

[28:58] Cersei you guys have Batman on your

[29:00] payroll and you don't even care the

[29:02] problem with arias powerlevel is that by

[29:04] all accounts the show should be aware of

[29:06] how strong she is but they just act like

[29:08] this is completely normal and it creates

[29:10] a disconnect on the other hand though

[29:12] once the series takes a nose dive into

[29:15] Shitsville I do kind of like her little

[29:17] mini story where she decides that she

[29:19] doesn't like any of the [ __ ] that's

[29:20] going on anymore but to be honest this

[29:22] was in the last two episodes and I think

[29:24] I just needed something to latch on to

[29:25] so that's it

[29:27] that's literally every main character in

[29:29] the show and they've all been ruined in

[29:31] some way or another our conflict doesn't

[29:34] lie with an antagonistic force as much

[29:36] as it does with our main heroes just not

[29:38] agreeing with each other

[29:39] Sansa is mad at Daenerys because she

[29:41] just doesn't like her Daenerys is just

[29:43] mad at everybody

[29:45] is sad because everybody's mad at each

[29:47] other all these characters completely

[29:48] lose their sense of reason and at this

[29:51] point these people are only alive

[29:53] because they have cunning resilience

[29:55] they're only here because they're smart

[29:57] but the show just forgot that they were

[29:59] so we have a merry band of dumb asses

[30:02] that have been leading the show for a

[30:03] few seasons now and a lot of people look

[30:05] at Season seven when they bring up how

[30:07] the show lost its mojo Adult Swim even

[30:09] had a eulogy for the show after its

[30:11] climax episode and for good reason this

[30:14] is where the show really started going

[30:15] down a path that it could not recover

[30:17] from in the climax episode of season 7

[30:20] the characters come up with the dumbest

[30:21] plan I've ever heard the good guys know

[30:24] that the dumb ice zombies are coming to

[30:26] kill everybody really soon so they have

[30:28] to convince evil Lex Luthor to aid them

[30:30] in the battle but she doesn't believe in

[30:32] zombies so their genius plan is to go

[30:34] far north

[30:35] grab a zombie and bring it back to her

[30:38] to prove that they're real the plan

[30:40] itself is so outrageously stupid that I

[30:44] thought it was a joke at first

[30:46] I'm not kidding like when the characters

[30:48] bring it up I fully expected someone to

[30:50] say no that's ridiculous let's come up

[30:52] with a real plan but no this is the one

[30:55] plan and they all agree to go along with

[30:57] it so they all go north to the most

[30:59] dangerous place they could go they grab

[31:01] a zombie and all the main characters

[31:03] just safely escape but then once you get

[31:05] to the end of the show you realize that

[31:07] they didn't even really have to do this

[31:09] because Cersei didn't really give a [ __ ]

[31:11] about the zombie anyway by the end of

[31:13] the story they still have to fight

[31:15] Cersei when I watch this episode a

[31:17] couple years ago I realized that this

[31:18] show has really lost its marbles so when

[31:21] the final season began I was a little

[31:22] more critical of it than others episode

[31:24] 1 came out and it was kind of slow and

[31:26] nothing really happened and everybody

[31:28] told me hey man it's the first episode

[31:29] give it a break then the Battle of

[31:31] Winterfell happens and other people

[31:33] start seeing the problems - the episode

[31:35] is like dark as hell you can't see

[31:37] what's happening the main characters

[31:38] somehow are totally invincible and can't

[31:40] die the big evil dragon that blew a hole

[31:43] in the wall last season doesn't even

[31:44] prove to be a threat anymore he can't

[31:46] even melt the rock that Jon Snow is

[31:48] hiding behind Daenerys manages to

[31:50] destroy an entire city later in the

[31:52] season but in this episode she can't

[31:54] really do anything against the zombies

[31:56] she just can't beat them you're telling

[31:57] me that this [ __ ] wouldn't

[31:58] worked on the zombies I mean give me a

[32:00] [ __ ] break plus much like last season

[32:03] our main characters decide that they're

[32:04] not done coming up with dumb plans in

[32:06] the episode before the Battle of

[32:08] Winterfell the characters decide that

[32:10] their plan to defeat the night king is

[32:12] to leave bran out in the open

[32:14] lure the night king out and then they

[32:18] literally never say what the plan is

[32:21] which causes me to not give a [ __ ] about

[32:24] what happens for an hour and a half

[32:25] because I knew everything was gonna be

[32:27] fine anyway I think we might live holy

[32:30] [ __ ] he was right the biggest threat in

[32:32] the series gets killed by arya and i

[32:34] always thought that the night king was

[32:36] gonna be defeated by something a little

[32:38] less traditional some people were mad

[32:39] that arya killed him because they wanted

[32:41] Jon Snow to do it and I don't really

[32:43] agree with that either the night Kings

[32:45] should not have been defeated by a

[32:46] normal person with a sword if it was

[32:48] that easy then he probably would have

[32:49] been dead a long time ago I personally

[32:52] wanted something more creative to happen

[32:54] I thought bran was gonna do some weird

[32:55] [ __ ] or something he always says that

[32:57] should he look on his face like he knows

[32:59] what's gonna happen I don't know I just

[33:00] expected something think about it why

[33:04] was the night king even in this story

[33:06] what narrative purpose does he serve

[33:08] tell me one reason one thing they

[33:12] contributed to the finale of this show

[33:14] if you remove the White Walkers entirely

[33:16] from this last season the last two

[33:19] episodes do not change at all now I know

[33:22] for a [ __ ] fact that George is gonna

[33:24] do things at least a little differently

[33:25] the White Walkers are the first thing

[33:27] you see in the whole series both the

[33:29] book and the show start with ice zombies

[33:32] so I like to think they're pretty

[33:33] [ __ ] important but as far as the

[33:35] show's concerned they just had no idea

[33:37] what to do with them

[33:39] we just rush past the biggest threat in

[33:41] the realm so we can rush past our main

[33:43] character turning evil and then we rush

[33:45] her getting punished for it and then the

[33:46] show just ends I don't even feel like I

[33:48] watched the ending of this show it was

[33:50] so unsatisfying to me this series has

[33:53] always been about breaking tradition or

[33:55] breaking cycles as I stated before the

[33:58] series itself is supposed to break

[33:59] traditions of fantasy story telling a

[34:02] story where a hero may die where you

[34:04] might find yourself rooting for people

[34:05] who do bad things in a series that push

[34:08] the idea that there are no good guys or

[34:10] bad guys we

[34:11] now have characters that are very

[34:12] obviously good and evil people are

[34:15] already comparing this to the ending of

[34:16] lost button lost every character got a

[34:19] fate that was satisfying and completed

[34:21] their arcs in meaningful ways and pretty

[34:23] soon they're gonna be a lot of think

[34:24] pieces about how this way of

[34:26] storytelling is genius because it

[34:28] subverts your expectations and that's

[34:30] that's dumb let's be real that's stupid

[34:32] because there's a way to subvert your

[34:34] expectations in a clever way and this

[34:36] series has done it before but now we're

[34:38] at a time where the writers think you're

[34:40] just supposed to do the opposite of what

[34:42] you expect and that's not how you're

[34:43] supposed to write a story you know if

[34:45] you've planned your book that the butler

[34:47] did it

[34:47] and then you read an intranet someone

[34:50] has figured out that the butler did it

[34:51] and you suddenly change in midstream and

[34:54] it was the chambermaid who did it then

[34:56] you screw up the whole book we hope to

[34:58] kind of avoid the expected and Jon Snow

[35:00] has always been the hero of the one

[35:02] who's in the Savior but it just didn't

[35:05] seem right to us for this for this

[35:06] moment so if you watch this series and

[35:09] you felt disappointed like me I guess

[35:11] you shouldn't be too upset because after

[35:13] all you do have multiple hundreds of

[35:15] pages of good stuff that you can enjoy I

[35:17] mean that's what I'm gonna do now and

[35:19] I'm sure in a few years we'll get the

[35:20] official canonical ending and then maybe

[35:23] like ten years after that we'll get a

[35:25] new series on a streaming service or

[35:27] something and it'll be called A Song of

[35:30] Ice and Fire

[35:31] the true adaptation will get our Game of

[35:34] Thrones Brotherhood and then this series

[35:37] will just be seen as the weird

[35:39] fanfiction that it is
