[00:00] Welcome to Hooies Garage, the dumbest

[00:02] automotive channel in all of YouTube.

[00:04] And this is a day that I really never

[00:06] thought would come. I knew it was

[00:07] coming. I knew it was a year away, then

[00:08] six months away, then a month away, then

[00:10] a week away, but I just never thought

[00:11] the day would actually come where I

[00:12] would have my last trip up to visit the

[00:15] Car Wizard, my friend of almost 20

[00:16] years. I'm a mechanic for over 15 years

[00:19] is moving away from Kansas, slowing

[00:21] things down a little bit, and relocating

[00:24] to Los Cusus, New Mexico. And I don't

[00:28] know what I'm going to do because

[00:29] basically my entire adult life as far as

[00:31] working on cars, it has been the car

[00:33] wizard that has taken care of me when it

[00:35] comes to my car issues for the most

[00:37] part. Uh so much so that we had a TV

[00:39] show on Motor Trend called Car issues. I

[00:41] really don't know any other way to do it

[00:43] other than bring the car up to the car

[00:45] wizard. And that chapter of my life,

[00:47] which is a big 15-year chapter, is

[00:50] closing.

[00:52] And it's it's very sad. I mean, it's not

[00:53] like he's dying or anything like he's

[00:55] moving away. He's healthy. He's happy.

[00:56] He's doing what someone would normally

[00:58] do in that season of life if they made

[00:59] good financial decisions unlike me. He's

[01:01] built up a million subscriber YouTube

[01:03] channel and had all the success. A lot

[01:05] of it for me writing checks for the car

[01:06] repairs, but also by not making

[01:09] disastrous personal decisions like

[01:10] buying a Bugatti Veyron and stuff like

[01:12] that. So, he's done very well for

[01:13] himself. And he can do this. He can move

[01:16] down, slow down, kind of scale things

[01:17] down, but he's still going to be a

[01:19] mechanic in New Mexico, but it's just

[01:21] over 10 hours away. So, it's just not

[01:23] practical for me to drive 10 hours down

[01:25] for him to work on a car. But, I do have

[01:28] a solution, and it's sort of a radical

[01:30] step that I am going to unveil in this

[01:33] video. I don't know if it's going to

[01:34] work cuz this is a pretty crazy idea,

[01:36] but it's going to be fun no matter what.

[01:39] But the first word that pops into my

[01:40] head for this situation is is scary and

[01:43] unknown because forever I've had this

[01:46] known solid person to take care of my

[01:49] issues and and now I don't. This is it.

[01:53] We are in the final days for you to

[01:54] enter for a chance to win my beautiful

[01:56] 1992 454 SS Chevy pickup truck at

[01:59] phantom.com/hoviesgar.

[02:01] It is linked below. This thing is

[02:03] incredible. Of the three years of

[02:04] production, about 17,000 made from 91 to

[02:07] 93. 92, one of the most rare years, less

[02:09] than 10% of production and the first

[02:11] year of the coveted four-speed automatic

[02:13] transmission. Gave you an extra highway

[02:15] gear for better cruising, but also a

[02:17] second faster 0 to 60 with that 454

[02:20] cubic inch V8 under the hood. And this

[02:22] thing has been redone. It is full out

[02:24] show truck and just gorgeous fresh paint

[02:26] job. And you can see in the back this

[02:28] really beautiful custom wood treatment.

[02:30] This is hand painted. It is artwork.

[02:33] Same when you look inside of the bed,

[02:34] more of that wood treatment and a bed

[02:36] liner. So, you could actually use this

[02:38] thing, but it is proper proper show

[02:40] truck. Blended rear bumper there, dual

[02:42] exhaust, custom wheels, and once again,

[02:45] look at this beautiful paint job. Also

[02:47] hopped up under the hood. The 454 cubic

[02:49] inch V8. It's been out and rebuilt at

[02:51] some point before I owned it. And it's

[02:52] definitely a lot faster than stock. And

[02:54] the car was just went through it, the

[02:56] air conditioning, a bunch of other

[02:57] stuff. So, it has his seal of approval.

[02:59] And inside, it is just as gorgeous as

[03:01] the outside. Oh, they certainly don't

[03:03] make them like they used to anymore. or

[03:04] you need a Randy Travis CD to pop in

[03:06] there. But

[03:09] I guess you don't need music with this

[03:10] Berberly big block V8.

[03:13] Oh, and you can own this thing. Just

[03:16] enter for a chance to win. It is a

[03:18] keychain or a mug and you can own this

[03:21] 454 SS pickup truck. And it's all being

[03:24] handled by fan.com. They are an amazing

[03:26] company. They've done several giveaways

[03:27] for me so far. Let me turn down the

[03:29] tunes. I think this is the seventh or

[03:32] eighth one. They're a great company,

[03:33] veteranowned and operated, and they do a

[03:36] great job with these things. Now, prices

[03:38] on these things have been going through

[03:39] the roof. 40, 50, $60,000 for low

[03:42] mileage examples. So, this is the most

[03:45] expensive thing probably value-wise that

[03:46] I have ever given away on the channel,

[03:49] more than the Belling Continental GT,

[03:50] which actually ended up on the East

[03:51] Coast as someone's daily driver. So,

[03:53] this really is an opportunity. All you

[03:55] have to do fathan.com who hooies garage

[03:58] buy a mug or a keychain a download and

[04:01] you could own this truck. This is my

[04:03] last sunset cruise in this truck. The

[04:05] next one it'll be one of you and you are

[04:07] going to love this thing.

[04:08] Fanithm.com/hovies

[04:09] garage link below.

[04:12] Hello. Oh, of course you are. Are you

[04:15] sorting through your funnels?

[04:17] >> Trying to figure out which ones are

[04:18] going to Los Cruus and which ones I'm

[04:19] going to keep here.

[04:20] >> You're not going to take all of them?

[04:22] Some of them I need to leave for

[04:23] Danielson. So, he has some funnels.

[04:25] >> Okay. Well, and you have your your

[04:27] drains and your pumps.

[04:29] >> Swedish made pump here

[04:30] >> and your inbalming machine. Is that

[04:32] stand or is that going to Los Cruus?

[04:33] >> It's going to Los Cusus.

[04:35] >> How many times do you use that for a

[04:37] car?

[04:38] >> Really?

[04:39] >> Yeah. We transmissions from the bottom.

[04:41] We fill them with it.

[04:42] >> Well, it's hard to believe, but after

[04:44] almost 20 years, over 15 years you

[04:46] working on my cars, you're moving away.

[04:48] This is it.

[04:49] >> This is it. And it's weird cuz other

[04:52] than my cars, your workshop is empty

[04:55] there.

[04:56] >> Hello.

[04:57] >> There's nothing in here.

[04:58] >> It's empty. Yeah.

[04:59] >> So, I know the Lotus is done from the

[05:01] last video. There's a few things about

[05:03] the hatches back on, but there's there's

[05:06] nothing else for you to do.

[05:07] >> No, I'm going to start boxing stuff up.

[05:10] >> All right. Well, Daniel's son, he's I

[05:12] know he's been crying every single day.

[05:14] He's just so sad.

[05:15] >> He's so sad. Yeah, I'm sure.

[05:17] >> Definitely an end of an era for sure.

[05:20] They're crocodile tears, wizard. They're

[05:21] >> crocodile tears. That's right.

[05:22] >> What did you do to Daniel? But tell me

[05:24] about the Lotus because this has been

[05:26] here for almost 6 months

[05:29] and we do have a few little leaks,

[05:32] right?

[05:33] >> It does have some crimps on some oil

[05:35] cooler lines that are leaking just a

[05:37] little bit.

[05:37] >> You're out of time for me to do that.

[05:39] >> Out of time. Yes.

[05:41] >> But the hatch is back on. It's running

[05:43] great.

[05:44] >> New clutch, rebuilt transmission. a lot

[05:47] of things fixed, but it is a Lotus. Oh,

[05:49] the roof. Yes. Lots of trouble. Usually

[05:51] serious, but there's a lot less troubles

[05:53] on this thing.

[05:54] >> Yeah, it actually runs really good now.

[05:56] >> Okay. So, you have a bill for this one?

[05:58] >> Yes. And I have a bill for that one.

[06:01] >> All right. The Elderorado, the

[06:03] Elderorado 2.0, I guess. But this one

[06:05] definitely hot rodded where somebody

[06:07] took the 500 cubic inch engine and made

[06:10] it into this insane thing right here.

[06:15] It's It's unbelievable. It was probably

[06:18] 600 horsepower 500 cubic inch V8, but it

[06:20] wasn't finished. So, the AC had to get

[06:21] hooked up, but then it wasn't restored

[06:23] on the outside, so it had some window

[06:24] problems, some seat problems.

[06:26] >> Daniel's son's wiring back up the

[06:28] climate control, it looks like. Huh.

[06:30] >> Yeah. He just had a melted wire. And I'm

[06:32] trying to find out what the heck this

[06:33] thing is.

[06:35] >> That doesn't look happy.

[06:37] >> Yeah, it doesn't.

[06:37] >> So, we'reing some things up, huh?

[06:39] >> Mhm. Getting close. Very, very close.

[06:41] This is pretty much almost done.

[06:43] >> Almost done. the old fuse and some

[06:45] wiring. And is the bill ready for this

[06:47] one too?

[06:48] >> It is.

[06:50] >> So, this is it. There's There's no more

[06:52] Car Wizard inspections. There's no more

[06:53] Car Wizard repair. You're going to lose,

[06:55] New Mexico. It's a long ways to ship a

[06:57] car.

[06:57] >> It is a long ways.

[06:58] >> This This is crazy. So, the last bill

[07:00] pay as well.

[07:02] Wow.

[07:03] >> A lot of lasts all at once.

[07:05] >> Wow.

[07:05] >> Mhm.

[07:06] >> Okay. Here's the Lotus bill.

[07:08] >> Two pages, which means that's that's a

[07:11] lot. But I know I put some money down on

[07:12] this thing. So

[07:13] >> you did. So

[07:15] >> 2750 for the time water pump service and

[07:17] all that stuff. And I provided the parts

[07:20] for this.

[07:20] >> Yes, you did.

[07:21] >> So whatever it was, $4,000 in parts I

[07:24] bought from Michigan. So $3,000. So that

[07:28] means your total was just shy $6,000. So

[07:31] >> the whole bill ended up being that much.

[07:33] Yes.

[07:33] >> Yeah. Your but then there were four

[07:35] $5,000 in parts. So that's a that's a

[07:37] $11,000 thing on the Lotus Spree V8.

[07:40] >> Yes.

[07:42] But wait, there's more.

[07:43] >> That's That's Ferrari level. How's the

[07:44] Cadillac? It can't be that bad.

[07:46] >> Oh, not too far off.

[07:48] >> Not too Well, that's that's pretty far

[07:50] off. $2,65.

[07:52] So, yeah, we had to finish out the AC

[07:54] conversion. A lot of parts that VR valve

[07:58] is $429.

[07:59] >> Yes, you have to buy them online.

[08:01] They're remanufactured. You really can't

[08:03] just go out and buy one of those.

[08:05] >> Jeez. Okay. And then the uh fixing the

[08:08] windows, 500 bucks. All right. $2,65.

[08:12] So, the last bill is a spicy one.

[08:15] >> It is over five grand, but there's more

[08:18] >> there. There is one more. I'm I'm

[08:20] prepared for this. It's not a surprise.

[08:22] And that is

[08:25] >> rent for the building.

[08:27] >> July.

[08:28] >> First month's rent on this building in

[08:32] Newton, Kansas. Cuz the car wizard is

[08:33] moving away. I have my dealer's license

[08:35] up here. So, it was either give that up,

[08:38] which makes my YouTube really difficult,

[08:39] or try and make a business out of it.

[08:41] And Daniel and I just started talking

[08:43] and

[08:45] we're making a go of it up here.

[08:46] >> Mhm.

[08:47] >> It's going to be the Hooptilot with

[08:49] Danielson. And, you know, Hooiey's

[08:51] Garage continues as normal with

[08:52] Danielson doing the work. But that means

[08:54] you get $3,000 a month for me for the

[08:57] rest of your life.

[08:58] >> For as long as this whole never lasts.

[09:00] >> I mean, I've been giving you thousands

[09:01] of dollars a month for the last 15 plus

[09:03] years. So it would feel weird to not

[09:05] just send you money. I had to I mean I

[09:07] have to just keep doing it for some

[09:08] reason. So

[09:10] >> Oh, so

[09:11] >> all of these all together is that total

[09:13] there.

[09:14] >> $8,8227

[09:17] the final bill from Wizard which not

[09:19] really because every month

[09:20] >> every month another one

[09:21] >> you'll be calling me and I imagine if

[09:22] I'm a day late you'll be driving up from

[09:24] Los Cusus and and chasing me down.

[09:26] >> Yes. I'll be chasing and finding out

[09:27] where you went

[09:28] >> or or Daniel break his thumbs first.

[09:30] Well no don't break his thumbs right. We

[09:33] need him for the work. So, I'm gonna

[09:35] talk to you more, Wizard, in a little

[09:37] bit, but Danielson Son, we need to talk

[09:38] about our business and what we're doing

[09:41] here.

[09:41] >> Sounds good to me.

[09:42] >> Okay, Danielson, I said the shop was

[09:43] empty, but really your hooptie fleet is

[09:46] kind of taking up a lot of space here.

[09:48] >> Yeah, these are all the cars that I've

[09:49] been collecting.

[09:50] >> And this is your baby, the 240 SX.

[09:53] >> Yes, this is probably my worst purchase.

[09:55] >> The mechanic shop is going to continue

[09:57] under Daniel Sun. I'm going to bring

[09:58] cars up here just like I would be the

[10:00] Wizard. There are going to be bills for

[10:01] you to pay just like the Wizard. It's

[10:03] going to be a little different because

[10:04] I'm leasing the space and there's going

[10:06] to be shared expenses with all that. So,

[10:08] everything stays the same. The Wizard's

[10:09] getting all new equipment, new lifts in

[10:12] New Mexico. So, it's very nice that we

[10:14] get to keep all this. Obviously, some

[10:16] tools and stuff are going, but the big

[10:18] twist is going to be the hoopt. So,

[10:22] I I can't believe I'm saying this, but

[10:24] I'm I'm back to being a used car dealer,

[10:27] the used car salesman, and I've started

[10:29] to gather nuts from Hoopty Auctions to

[10:32] start selling. They're actually they're

[10:33] actually outside. So, this is the first

[10:35] few gatherings of the Hoopty lot, I love

[10:37] Hooptie so much that going back to the

[10:38] auctions, it just feels like home. And

[10:41] buying these goofy things like an 03

[10:43] Hummer H2, Nissan Armada, Buick Reneer

[10:46] with just shy of 100,000 miles, little

[10:48] lady special. These Acadias, I probably

[10:51] looked at 10 or 20 of them with stretch

[10:53] timing chains and bad transmission

[10:54] before finding a good one. And this

[10:56] one's a good one. And then the Nissan

[10:58] Titan, the kind of stuff that people in

[11:00] Newton, Kansas would be looking for,

[11:02] wanting to buy, kind of cheaper cars

[11:03] that'll get you from A to B. But then

[11:05] also, there's going to be some specialty

[11:06] things, some cool stuff that maybe we

[11:08] sell online like this Buick Riviera,

[11:10] which hop in this thing, Daniel. You

[11:12] haven't seen it since it got cleaned up.

[11:13] >> I just love the digital kind of Star

[11:15] Trek display on this thing.

[11:17] So cool. Of course, the camera's messing

[11:19] with it because it's LED, but just a

[11:22] time capsule 80,000 mi Buick. I've never

[11:24] met a Buick that I didn't like. So,

[11:26] >> dude, this thing is very, very clean

[11:28] now.

[11:28] >> It's It's very cool. And every once in a

[11:30] while, well, I mean, it's pretty

[11:31] regularly the opportunities like this

[11:32] pop up where normally I wouldn't have

[11:34] bought them cuz it's like, you know, I

[11:35] don't think I'd make a YouTube video

[11:36] about this, but still, it's something

[11:38] really neat. So, there is opportunity

[11:40] there for me to buy where, you know, it

[11:43] is possible that I might make some money

[11:44] on this. It it's it I mean there's a

[11:46] small chance, but the goal is to keep

[11:49] everything operating, keep Daniel busy

[11:50] enough in cars, fixing things, and and

[11:53] maybe not lose as much money when I was

[11:56] just writing checks to the car wizard

[11:58] for, you know, the tune of 100 to

[12:00] $200,000 a year for the last 15 years.

[12:03] >> So, um, you know, so no matter what,

[12:06] it's going to be cheaper than that.

[12:08] >> You think so?

[12:08] >> Whether the business makes a lot of

[12:10] money for me or not, I don't know. But,

[12:12] but it's it's exciting. I mean, I'm sad

[12:15] about the car wizard for sure leaving. I

[12:16] mean, it's just almost a 20-year

[12:18] friendship and all that stuff, but a

[12:20] change needed to happen.

[12:21] >> No, he wants to retire and then he's

[12:24] making a way for somebody, you know, to

[12:26] be able to grow, somebody new, so giving

[12:28] an opportunity to somebody else.

[12:29] >> So, it's very nice for him to give us

[12:30] this shot where all the equipment stays

[12:32] in reasonable rent and these cars could

[12:36] keep Daniel busy as far as outside of my

[12:38] Hooie's garage cars. he can keep them

[12:40] busy, you know, fixing them up and then

[12:41] putting them on the lot and selling a

[12:43] few and hopefully making some money. The

[12:46] the getting them, the buying them, I can

[12:48] do that. The fixing them, he can do

[12:49] that. The selling them and making money,

[12:52] that's that that's the part that I've

[12:53] always struggled with, but it's it's

[12:56] certainly possible. You're always Bob

[12:57] and so many others make a living doing

[12:58] it. So, that's that's what's going to

[13:00] happen. I'm I'm back. I mean, I am full

[13:03] dived in head first into hoopties again.

[13:06] And it it feels it feels oh so good. So,

[13:08] you need Yeah, you can grow your beard

[13:10] out, dye it orange, you know, work on

[13:11] your innuendos a bit.

[13:13] >> Okay. I'll start working on it.

[13:15] >> It'll be perfect. But Daniel's son, he's

[13:17] he's sticking around and the world it

[13:20] kind of stays the same.

[13:22] >> Kind of.

[13:22] >> Kind of. Okay, Wizard. I'm not done with

[13:25] you yet because I spent hours pouring

[13:27] through the internet.

[13:28] >> Oh, yeah.

[13:28] >> To trace back our almost 20 years

[13:31] together.

[13:32] >> It's been that long.

[13:33] >> It's been that long. It starts in 2009.

[13:37] I found it. February 12th, our very

[13:39] first interaction where you post on

[13:43] Mercedeshop.com that you bought a 240D.

[13:46] >> Wow. I I now remember now that I see it.

[13:49] I would have never even remembered any

[13:50] of this.

[13:51] >> Just introducing myself. I bought a 8 A3

[13:53] 240D from Kansas City for 1,200 bucks.

[13:54] Nearly rust-free body. You're talking

[13:56] about maybe converting it over to veggie

[13:58] oil, that kind of stuff.

[14:00] >> That was cool back then.

[14:01] >> Everybody is welcoming you, including

[14:04] me. But I am jealous because I saw that

[14:07] car on Craigslist. I was going to go

[14:09] look at it and I was curious if it was

[14:12] the same one and then tell you from

[14:13] Holstead, Kansas, and realized you're

[14:16] the first Fris Swarm that's within a

[14:18] stones throw from me.

[14:19] >> Mhm.

[14:19] >> So, this is back in 2009, right before

[14:22] Valentine's Day.

[14:22] >> Wow.

[14:23] >> And it's our first interaction. You do

[14:25] reply to me and you're a little bit

[14:27] snarky. It's funny because you did say,

[14:29] "Hey, this guy said somebody else was

[14:31] coming to look at it and I beat you to

[14:32] it." and you you smoked me and you were

[14:35] kind of you were kind of bragging about

[14:36] it.

[14:37] >> I had gotten up there first and snagged

[14:39] it from you. Yeah.

[14:39] >> So, I know we interacted a little bit on

[14:41] the forums, but typical for you, you

[14:43] didn't keep that car for very long. I

[14:45] mean, for you, maybe a year. It was a

[14:46] long time for you. Yeah.

[14:48] >> But then you moved on. You made this

[14:49] really hard to find cuz then you deleted

[14:51] your your like profile and things. So,

[14:52] it took a lot of digging for me to find

[14:54] this. But you posted back up actually.

[14:57] So maybe you didn't delete it yet

[14:59] because on November 14th, you said, "I

[15:01] am opening my own shop."

[15:03] >> Yes. That's when it all started.

[15:05] >> 35minute drive north of Witchah. You're

[15:07] basically doing your spiel. What I love

[15:09] about this post is you're saying your

[15:10] shop rates are $45 an hour for repairs,

[15:14] $45 for a computer diagnostic.

[15:17] We What happened?

[15:19] >> Inflation

[15:21] time.

[15:22] >> Uh-huh.

[15:22] >> 45. That's I couldn't survive on that

[15:25] today.

[15:25] >> No. It's it's it's insane that uh back

[15:27] in 2011 it's a totally different world

[15:30] where $45 an hour seemed like a lot.

[15:32] >> Well, back then mechanic shops were like

[15:34] 75 an hour 80 and that was pretty high

[15:36] then. So,

[15:37] >> and now they're $400 an hour for

[15:39] specialty shops and things. It is it is

[15:41] pretty crazy. So,

[15:42] >> I replied saying, "Hey, I'm giving you a

[15:45] shot. He's got my 2001 Discovery 2 that

[15:48] I purchased last week for pennies." And

[15:49] I remember this thing. It was

[15:51] ridiculously ridiculously clean. A

[15:53] little over 100,000 miles. I remember

[15:54] it. Yeah.

[15:54] >> But failing head gaskets. Look at that

[15:56] interior. I think I bought it for like

[15:57] 1,000 or 1,500 bucks. You fixed the head

[15:59] gaskets for around 1,000 and then I sold

[16:01] it for I don't know 3,500 4 grand. Not

[16:03] very much back then. I was like, "This

[16:05] is going to work."

[16:06] >> So I sent you another one that I knew

[16:08] had been overheated. And because I I

[16:12] sold that one, bought another one, said,

[16:13] "Hey, let's just keep doing this. Let's

[16:14] keep fixing discoveries." And it was it

[16:16] was a total disaster. I'm sure you

[16:18] remember that, right?

[16:18] >> Yeah. I could It was terrible.

[16:20] >> I think one of the cylinders slipped it

[16:21] sleeve because it was so bad. They

[16:23] cooked it really bad.

[16:24] >> So, I called you about it cuz you were

[16:26] fighting it and I was doing some

[16:27] research on the internet and I think I

[16:28] called you when you were sitting down

[16:30] for family dinner. It wasn't because we

[16:31] weren't texting all that much yet. So,

[16:33] this is my first text message to you.

[16:35] Sorry to bother you at dinner again, but

[16:37] apparently you can crack a cylinder in

[16:39] the exhaust. So, I'm talking about how

[16:41] this engine on this Discovery is

[16:43] probably dead, right?

[16:44] >> My in my first ever text message to you

[16:46] in 2012.

[16:48] >> Mhm. because otherwise we were just

[16:49] calling each other because like texting

[16:51] wasn't a thing yet for older people. I

[16:53] mean I guess it was by 2012 but I just

[16:55] didn't text all that much. So that's our

[16:56] first text message.

[16:58] >> Yes.

[16:58] >> But now there's this. This is my first

[17:00] photo of you.

[17:02] >> I remember going there. Yeah.

[17:03] >> On my phone.

[17:04] >> Mhm.

[17:04] >> Amelia Island in uh 2016.

[17:08] >> We drove straight through all the way

[17:09] there

[17:10] >> in my 300 SD which is my very first

[17:12] YouTube video before you converted it to

[17:14] a manual transmission. And there you are

[17:16] with a mura and an Aventador at Amelia

[17:18] Island.

[17:18] >> And we went to the Dupont Registry

[17:20] lifestyle party.

[17:22] >> And we sat down with these really rich

[17:24] people. And they said under their

[17:26] breath.

[17:27] >> What did they say?

[17:28] >> They said, "Well, we sat at a table that

[17:30] had a lot of trash from somebody else

[17:32] that sat there and they looked right at

[17:33] us, specifically at me, and they said,

[17:35] you know, they really should sack the

[17:37] trash here and get the trash."

[17:38] >> I I remember and I remember them saying

[17:40] also, "Oh, they just let anybody in here

[17:42] now."

[17:43] >> Yeah. Yeah. And it was just and it was

[17:44] it was just clearly being snoody and

[17:46] directing it towards us who were, you

[17:48] know, were the commoners at the DuPont

[17:49] Registry lifestyle event.

[17:51] >> And uh I I remember flirting with the

[17:54] guys kind of trophy wife that was quite

[17:56] a bit younger and all that stuff in the

[17:58] buffet line just to try and make him

[17:59] mad. But that that was our first kind of

[18:02] trip together. And this is right before

[18:04] before YouTube. So that

[18:05] >> any gray hair?

[18:06] >> No gray hair. You got some hair on top

[18:08] still.

[18:09] >> Nice. So, I found this text, too,

[18:11] because this is when I posted my very

[18:12] first YouTube video, and you sent me

[18:14] some encouraging notes. It was very nice

[18:15] of you where you said, "Awesome video.

[18:17] Love the rowboat song where I'm saying,

[18:19] "Row, row, row your gears and and uh,

[18:21] you know, did a lot of goofy things."

[18:23] You were you liked a lot.

[18:24] >> So, I've been Mercedes dieseling for

[18:25] nearly 10 years now.

[18:27] >> You're being generous because

[18:28] >> it's awesome. It's like Star Wars, but

[18:31] if it had a Jar Jar Binks,

[18:33] >> it would be the automatic transmission.

[18:35] >> But my delivery is not very good. The

[18:37] editing is really weird. You're saying

[18:38] it's good editing, but uh you

[18:40] complimented the Barry White, which you

[18:41] can't use copyright music now, but there

[18:43] it is looking at the manual

[18:44] transmission. That was the first kind of

[18:47] conversion job you did for me. You

[18:48] weren't in the video, but I mean, your

[18:51] work was here for my very first YouTube

[18:53] video.

[18:54] >> Mhm.

[18:55] >> But

[18:56] >> what's with the pig?

[18:58] >> This is your very first appearance on

[19:01] Hooie's Garage right here.

[19:03] >> Hey, Biggy. Biggy.

[19:05] >> Somebody had a pet pig in town. That's

[19:06] right. in H Hallstead at your first

[19:08] blacksmith shop.

[19:09] >> Mhm.

[19:10] >> There was this pig

[19:12] >> and

[19:12] >> definitely a pig.

[19:15] >> I I went and basically I'm visiting you

[19:17] with a $300 Jeep and we're putting a

[19:19] starter in it

[19:20] >> and it's it's already established that

[19:22] I'm not going to be doing the work. U

[19:23] It's kind It's kind of funny. Yeah.

[19:25] >> After Dave confirmed the motor wasn't

[19:26] locked up, we dove in on replacing the

[19:29] starter. By we, I mean Dave did all the

[19:32] work and I

[19:34] supervised.

[19:36] you had a much higher voice back.

[19:37] >> My my octaves have changed a little bit,

[19:39] but I think I can still slip it up there

[19:41] if I want to. So, I'm just hanging out

[19:43] watching you work, which became the

[19:46] theme of the next 10 years basically. It

[19:48] >> in the YouTube channel.

[19:49] >> Uhhuh.

[19:50] >> But

[19:52] we didn't know this thing was running. A

[19:54] starter got this thing going. Obviously,

[19:55] the head gasket was bad. Figured out

[19:57] pretty quickly. But there's a very young

[19:59] looking me.

[19:59] >> It is young. You're like you're in high

[20:02] school still.

[20:06] Time for a new chapter with my one of my

[20:08] favorites. I named Apollo 911. So after

[20:11] blowing the LS or blowing the 911 engine

[20:13] and then swapping it into an LS,

[20:15] >> which is like roughly driving

[20:16] >> and I'm reading from a sheet of paper

[20:17] here. That's why it sounds so artificial

[20:19] and it's raining.

[20:21] >> Driving at a high performance track.

[20:23] You're standing here staring at me.

[20:25] >> Here comes the stare.

[20:27] >> But before my Porsche motor is yanked

[20:29] and shipped off.

[20:30] >> I don't know why I did that.

[20:31] >> Automotive CSI. He won't stop. happened.

[20:34] It's a lot of people think this is

[20:35] >> I was so afraid I think of screwing up

[20:37] your video cuz I this was completely

[20:39] alien to me. A lot of metal shavings

[20:41] caught up in

[20:42] >> still

[20:44] plastic pieces caught up in there.

[20:45] >> I don't know what to do.

[20:49] >> Scraping away the plastic guide rails.

[20:51] >> Am I breathing?

[20:53] >> There we go. Yep.

[20:54] >> Take a look inside the filter.

[20:55] >> But listen to this part filter off and

[20:57] see what we got in here. Listen.

[21:02] >> The car wizard.

[21:03] >> First time.

[21:04] >> The first time.

[21:05] >> The first time.

[21:06] >> That's where my name came from. Then

[21:07] >> you'd call me that before this video.

[21:10] >> Yes, but not on camera.

[21:11] >> Yeah.

[21:12] >> It's more like a kaleidoscope that's

[21:13] going to put your kid through.

[21:15] >> That is a dead engine there.

[21:16] >> Is that engine still sitting around here

[21:17] somewhere? You finally saw it off.

[21:19] >> Actually, I think Jared King has it.

[21:20] >> Oh, okay.

[21:22] >> So, you Ellis swapped it.

[21:24] >> Oh, 10 seconds or so. Okay.

[21:26] >> Actually, it looks like I was helping

[21:28] you a bit with my dirty hands.

[21:29] >> Dirty hands. Yeah.

[21:35] >> So, first big project in the garage for

[21:38] you as far as like a total custom

[21:40] fabrication LS swap, which

[21:43] >> pretty cool though.

[21:44] >> Pretty cool. But

[21:47] >> the Bentley was the first time we ever

[21:49] did a bit together.

[21:51] >> There's Dino, the dog. He's such a sweet

[21:53] dog.

[21:54] But this Bentley spent 10 years in

[21:56] Russia and I didn't know when I bought

[21:58] it unfortunately and it had the odometer

[22:00] rolled back several times, several

[22:01] accidents. It was a goner. We junked it.

[22:04] But since it spent time in Russia, we

[22:06] thought, well, let's do a bit for the

[22:08] first time, the two of us.

[22:10] >> Sugar might be a different kind of

[22:12] medication I wasn't thinking about.

[22:15] >> So, we're pretending there's Coke in the

[22:17] back.

[22:17] >> Oh, wa. Awesome.

[22:18] >> And you stuff one of your revolvers in

[22:20] there. I don't even know if you could do

[22:22] that on camera.

[22:22] >> You know, I don't I don't know. We'll

[22:24] see if this gets hit. So, there's your

[22:25] personality coming out.

[22:26] >> Mhm. Starting to come out.

[22:27] >> Then carefully.

[22:29] >> So, yeah, things were starting to go

[22:31] viral at this point. You know, 2018.

[22:34] >> So, this Prius,

[22:36] there's my feet of strength here.

[22:39] >> I think you could pick it up easier

[22:40] today than back then.

[22:42] >> I I might be a little Look at Look at

[22:44] that flat butt of mine. Anyway,

[22:48] >> so this is

[22:50] >> sort of buying hoopies, fixing them,

[22:52] that kind of stuff. We're starting to

[22:53] get into the viral years are starting to

[22:56] kick in here around 2018.

[22:58] >> All these iPad size things along with

[23:00] the old blacksmith shop,

[23:03] >> but clearly I shouldn't be doing

[23:05] wrenching.

[23:06] >> And after getting distracted for a

[23:08] moment, I began installing the

[23:10] replacement cells.

[23:12] >> I'm doing a TV show. So then it

[23:15] transitions into getting an email

[23:18] basically saying, "Hey, you want to do a

[23:19] TV show?" And we ended up shooting three

[23:21] seasons of a show which was on History

[23:24] and FYI and then Motor Trend,

[23:26] >> right?

[23:26] >> Out of nowhere. I mean, 200,000

[23:28] subscriber YouTube channel, wasn't it? I

[23:29] mean,

[23:31] >> there was a lot back then, but it was

[23:33] weird to get a cold email from someone

[23:34] in Hollywood wanting to make a show.

[23:36] >> It was almost unbelievable.

[23:38] >> Junkie for a good deal.

[23:41] >> I just car issues. There it is.

[23:44] >> Got a lot of cash in here for you. I

[23:46] bought a Viper. Wa. Bonus points if it's

[23:49] something unusual. A 700 horsepower

[23:51] station.

[23:51] >> It feels like it was a couple years ago,

[23:53] but it's like 10. It's about 8 years

[23:56] ago. 2018.

[23:59] >> Kill me. That's a clip.

[24:02] >> They're sinking. Turn it off. I hope

[24:07] >> I smell gas. My name's Tyler Hoover.

[24:12] I just broke it.

[24:14] >> And I've got car issues.

[24:16] >> They seem to dry when you buy them.

[24:18] >> It's just crazy how quickly things just

[24:20] sort of exploded.

[24:21] >> It is. Excuse me, sir.

[24:23] >> This is when we sort of with the TV show

[24:25] >> and then that sort of gave the concept

[24:27] of the wizard inspections and the fixes

[24:29] >> which I feel like this is the first

[24:31] version of that where really were into

[24:33] the format that we used for the next

[24:34] eight years as far as

[24:36] >> it was in your barn. You're going to

[24:37] start working on it again. Yeah.

[24:39] >> And there's that Alzheimer's Rolls-Royce

[24:42] >> where the guy hacked the wiring and then

[24:43] got put in the home.

[24:44] >> It was bad. I couldn't fix it. It was

[24:45] too much.

[24:46] >> So, this is really close to put free

[24:49] Willy in there is going up. But this is

[24:51] basically what the format became for the

[24:53] next 8 years

[24:55] >> more or less the same where we're

[24:56] looking underneath

[24:57] >> doing that and and once again in this

[25:00] very viral period where this video I

[25:02] think two and a half million views the

[25:03] previous video 2 million views

[25:05] >> and things were just explosive.

[25:06] >> So, should we take this drove it into

[25:08] the hole.

[25:10] >> So Garage is firing on all cylinders

[25:13] now. We're we're in the groove here. But

[25:14] this is

[25:15] >> buried and that's where it's been ever

[25:16] since. Now I think it's like we decided

[25:19] let's just bury a car.

[25:21] >> So

[25:21] >> and I had the land to do it.

[25:23] >> It had holes in it. It was mechanically

[25:24] total 10 times over. There were Lever

[25:27] people so angry at me for burying this

[25:28] thing. But I know

[25:29] >> the fact that it's just to bury a car

[25:32] and see if it'll start a year later.

[25:34] >> We just And you had the land. So we we

[25:37] we had to do it. I mean

[25:38] >> honestly a lot of people have done that

[25:40] lately on YouTube channels. I think you

[25:41] were probably the first.

[25:43] >> There was Yeah, I think so. That you

[25:45] know in the here's everything wrong is

[25:48] >> spray a little starting fluid.

[25:51] >> Ready?

[25:52] >> And

[25:59] there it goes.

[26:00] >> It's started up.

[26:01] >> Mhm.

[26:02] >> Yes. Let's see if the radio comes on.

[26:08] Wow.

[26:09] >> Been buried basically in hell for

[26:12] >> how was that a year?

[26:13] >> Forever.

[26:14] >> Yeah.

[26:14] >> So that's viral for movies garage. But

[26:16] this

[26:18] >> was a big thing.

[26:19] >> It was huge.

[26:20] >> Car trek.

[26:21] >> Mhm.

[26:22] >> And this is your first appearance in

[26:24] Carre.

[26:25] >> I poofed in. We started doing

[26:27] >> this is the address

[26:29] >> in Las Vegas during co Las Vegas was

[26:31] shut down. So weird. Who is this magical

[26:34] person here that's supposed to tell us

[26:36] all the things wrong with our cars?

[26:40] >> Oh,

[26:44] wizard and he appears.

[26:45] >> I don't think I could carry today back

[26:48] almost.

[26:50] And now I'm Where am I?

[26:52] >> You're not in Kansas anymore.

[26:53] >> Be in Las Vegas, baby.

[26:54] >> Vegas.

[26:55] >> Yes.

[26:56] >> Amazing. So, next question is why why am

[26:58] I here?

[26:58] >> You're doing a lot better now with your

[27:00] expertise your knowledge. Oh, you think

[27:02] you're you know what to do with your

[27:03] hands now?

[27:03] >> Yeah. Just don't stare at the screen.

[27:05] >> Nice.

[27:06] >> Well, I think it's kind of interesting

[27:07] what we say here.

[27:08] >> So, how many of these do you think we've

[27:09] done Wizard?

[27:10] >> At least 100.

[27:12] >> Maybe 200. Yes. This is our contribution

[27:14] to pop culture, I guess. So, what are

[27:17] your concerns?

[27:18] >> Well, not much. Is

[27:21] going on service records. Everything

[27:23] that's supposed to be done has been it

[27:25] is a little oily underneath here,

[27:26] though.

[27:27] >> Well, we're going to find out today that

[27:28] the flashlight is truly miter than the

[27:30] sword.

[27:34] So 15 years of wrenching, 10 years of

[27:36] YouTube, three seasons of television,

[27:38] >> ducks for the turbos,

[27:39] >> 10 car tracks that you were in like

[27:40] engine oil,

[27:41] >> I think. You didn't need to taste it.

[27:43] >> Oh, I know that now for sure.

[27:45] >> Why am I so weird?

[27:47] >> I've been through a lot already.

[27:48] >> But this I am super super

[27:50] >> This is my favorite video of us

[27:52] together.

[27:53] >> Get set.

[27:54] >> Yeah. Laying on the ground.

[27:55] >> Yeah.

[27:56] >> Yeah.

[27:58] >> I'm about 100 miles. Hardest probably

[28:01] ever laughed.

[28:02] >> And luckily I made it home. But uh

[28:05] >> bad head gasket on the Toyota Previa.

[28:06] The engine's down there. It's a

[28:07] mid-enine supercharged.

[28:08] >> Oh yeah.

[28:09] >> But you took out the spark plugs to try

[28:11] and get the water out of it. And

[28:12] >> we all get lucky.

[28:13] >> Here we go.

[28:13] >> It's going to squirt.

[28:16] >> Oh.

[28:17] >> Holy crap.

[28:19] >> Just blasted the camera.

[28:21] >> Good god.

[28:22] >> Was explosive diarrhea. Think it got the

[28:24] camera too. Oh, you poor people.

[28:28] >> You got sharded. Full out hooptie.

[28:35] >> That was pretty good.

[28:36] >> I

[28:36] >> That's YouTube gold right there.

[28:38] >> I was I was just hysterically laughing

[28:40] for way longer than this. I edited it

[28:42] down. I just

[28:44] >> a van sharding. I just

[28:46] >> cuz I have like 8-year-old bathroom

[28:48] humor still as a 40-year-old man.

[28:50] >> Yeah,

[28:52] >> that's great.

[28:54] >> Okay,

[28:56] you guys are right. But I also have my

[28:58] favorite Car Wizard video.

[29:00] >> Oh, yeah.

[29:01] >> Because you started six years ago with

[29:02] the car wizard channel.

[29:05] >> There's slow-mo.

[29:06] >> So, here comes here comes my favorite

[29:09] car wizard video.

[29:10] >> Okay.

[29:11] >> No, not that one. It's going to be

[29:13] comedy. It's not going to be

[29:15] informative. There won't be anything you

[29:17] doing comedy.

[29:18] >> How's it going, boys and girls? Here we

[29:20] are. So everybody

[29:22] >> Tiger King was during too long ago

[29:25] >> is watching Tiger King trying to get

[29:27] things fixed for folks when they come on

[29:28] down.

[29:30] >> And what were you thinking?

[29:31] >> I don't know.

[29:32] >> Why did you Why did you You called me up

[29:34] and said, "Hey, I got a script. Come up

[29:36] and shoot this."

[29:37] >> Look at you.

[29:38] >> You're some kind of wizard.

[29:40] >> That's what they say.

[29:42] >> You brought one of your cars down.

[29:43] >> You just went along with it.

[29:44] >> Got a Lamborghini.

[29:46] >> A Lamborghini?

[29:47] >> I went I went full crackhead on it. Yes.

[29:49] >> Oh boy. Oh boy, that sounds like

[29:51] >> Where did you find the zoo?

[29:53] >> I had it for a costume years ago.

[29:56] >> Like Joel exotic.

[29:57] >> They're going to know me around the

[29:58] world.

[29:58] >> You get arrested.

[30:00] >> Exotic,

[30:00] >> but you know, first the musical in blue.

[30:03] >> But in this video, you're going through

[30:05] basically your history with the shop and

[30:07] me and kind of like what we're doing

[30:09] now, but in the lens of of this, you

[30:12] know, Tiger King.

[30:13] >> I could completely forgot that I did

[30:15] that.

[30:16] >> It's so cringey. What were you thinking?

[30:18] But there's there's a prophetic

[30:19] statement in here that I I found

[30:21] fascinating that I totally forgot that I

[30:22] said this.

[30:23] >> Okay.

[30:24] >> But anyway, once we get through the

[30:25] music here,

[30:27] >> you guys are going to hear from me.

[30:28] You're going to hear about this for me.

[30:31] >> You're getting arrested like Tiger King.

[30:32] >> Yeah.

[30:32] >> Why don't you go?

[30:33] >> Yes, sir.

[30:34] >> Oh.

[30:37] >> Well, goodness. What are we going to do

[30:39] now? Well,

[30:41] I know a lady down in Florida that can

[30:44] bankroll this thing, but it's under the

[30:46] condition that I take over as owner

[30:49] operator of

[30:50] >> You are now

[30:51] >> Omega Omega

[30:53] Clinic.

[30:54] >> Well,

[30:56] let's do it.

[31:00] So,

[31:01] >> your 2020 video where we were joking

[31:04] about me taking over with Carol Baskins

[31:06] is uh Well, I guess Daniel can be Carol

[31:09] Baskin in this,

[31:11] >> I guess.

[31:13] >> So, anyway, that's that's our history.

[31:16] That's 17 18 years. I mean,

[31:18] >> Mhm.

[31:18] >> what what a ride, man.

[31:20] >> It's been quite a ride. I think we're

[31:21] both in a place we never thought we

[31:23] would be. That's for sure.

[31:24] >> For sure. And I mean, I'm so

[31:25] appreciative for everything you've done

[31:27] for me. I It's from, you know, helping

[31:30] me with the car dealership having

[31:31] affordable mechanic work to the infancy

[31:33] of YouTube to the explosive success and

[31:35] everything else.

[31:36] >> You're right by my side for all of it.

[31:38] So, I really don't know. Like,

[31:39] >> I know that this is happening and you

[31:41] know, changes changes happen with

[31:43] everything with life, but like I I'm I

[31:45] really don't know what I'm going to do.

[31:47] It's it is really sad. And I do also I

[31:50] love you.

[31:50] >> Oh, yeah.

[31:51] >> I love you. So, thank you so much for

[31:52] everything and thank you for setting me

[31:54] up for success

[31:55] >> uh with this

[31:56] >> and having something to look forward to

[31:59] again like me.

[32:01] >> The compressor kicking on right in the

[32:03] emotional moment.

[32:05] >> Let me turn that off again.

[32:06] >> Yeah, you can turn it off.

[32:07] >> It's terrible.

[32:12] >> I was about to I was about to kiss you,

[32:14] wizard. I was about to finally

[32:15] Everybody's been waiting for it for

[32:17] years, but now since the compressor

[32:18] ruined the mood, I'll I'll put my tongue

[32:20] back in my mouth, I guess. But it's very

[32:22] poignant. I'm I've been there have been

[32:23] moments of like I'm excited for this new

[32:25] chapter, but at the same time, I'm just

[32:27] very I'm very very sad to see you go.

[32:29] And so it's a it's a it's a big both

[32:32] ways, you know.

[32:32] >> Well, I wouldn't be uh doing any of this

[32:34] if it wasn't for you. The whole idea of

[32:37] car wizard, my YouTube channel is

[32:40] directly result of that that meeting we

[32:43] had on on the internet.

[32:44] >> How weird is it? It is a form. I mean,

[32:46] you met your wife on the internet. I

[32:47] know a little chat room. So, but I mean

[32:48] for like

[32:49] >> like if if you didn't go on if I beat

[32:52] you to that car on Craigslist.

[32:54] >> It would have never happened.

[32:55] >> None of this would have happened.

[32:56] >> That car was pinnacle.

[32:58] >> That's that whatever wherever this 240D

[33:00] is probably scrapped and just, you know,

[33:03] 10 cans by now. And

[33:05] >> it's just it's weird the little things

[33:07] that set off I mean changes the entire

[33:09] course of your life so dramatically

[33:10] because the same for me none of this

[33:13] would have existed. None none of it with

[33:15] me. So

[33:17] >> anyway that's that's it. I mean the next

[33:20] videos are going to be very very

[33:23] different but very fun. Thank you so

[33:25] much for watching.

[33:45] And just a reminder, today is the final

[33:46] day to enter the win the 1992 454 SS

[33:50] pickup truck. One of the last cars

[33:51] worked on by the Car Wizard before he
