AI Summary

This video is a lesson on how to choose a content niche the right way. The creator breaks down the true definition of a niche into a broad and a fixed component, introduces the idea of a vocational niche, and explains when niching down is not mandatory.

[00:01]
Niche advice is often misunderstood

Most creators either pick a niche and still fail or don't know how to start because the 'pick a niche' advice is oversimplified and rarely explained properly.

[00:26]
What this lesson covers

The video explains what picking a niche actually means, two niche types you need to identify, when it's okay not to niche down, and exercises to help narrow down.

[01:23]
The dictionary definition of a niche

A niche is a specialized segment of the market for a particular kind of product or service. Most people forget the second half of this definition.

[01:51]
Broad niche

The first half of the definition refers to a broad niche: content categories like fitness, beauty, fashion, travel, or education. This gives clarity but is not specific enough.

[02:25]
Fixed niche

The second half is the fixed niche, which gets more specific. Ask: 'What kind of blank?', 'Who is my message for?', 'What is my style of blank?' Examples include budget-friendly international travel, fitness from home for busy moms, and eco-friendly 70s fashion.

[03:37]
Vocational niche

An alternate definition of niche is a place, job, or use for which a person is best fitted. Combining this with 'vocation' — a strong feeling of suitability for a career — means you should pick a segment you genuinely love.

[04:36]
Passion creates unique positioning

The creator's biggest mistake was picking a niche everyone else was doing. Results only came after pivoting to what she truly enjoyed, because enthusiasm naturally magnetizes an audience.

[07:24]
Lifestyle is not a niche

Lifestyle is not niched down enough. When you talk to everyone, you're talking to no one, so lifestyle content can hurt rapid growth for creators starting from zero.

[08:38]
Niche is a proven growth strategy

Picking a niche produces faster results across all platforms and algorithms. Lifestyle content can work for people like Alex Earl, but it's not the fastest route for beginners.

[10:15]
Trade-offs if you don't want to niche down

If you refuse to niche down, you must accept slower growth and that Instagram is not ideal because its algorithm was designed to favor niche accounts.

[11:25]
No wrong choice — avoid analysis paralysis

There is no right or wrong niche decision. The only real mistake is stressing about making the wrong choice and ending up not picking anything at all.

Choosing a niche is not about limiting yourself — it's about getting specific enough for both the algorithm and your audience to find you. The key is to pick something you genuinely love and start before you feel ready.

[00:01] grow on social media, you've probably heard the advice to pick a niche. So either you've picked a niche and for some reason things still aren't working for you, or you have no idea where to start when it comes to niching down

[00:13] because let's face it, we are multi-passionate people. How the heck are you supposed to niche down when you love coffee, reading, conspiracy theories, working out, all the things? Don't worry, I've got you because in

[00:26] this video you are going to learn what picking a niche actually means cuz either people aren't teaching it the right way or you're misinterpreting what it means. You'll learn two niche types that you'll need to identify, when it's

[00:40] okay to not niche down, and a few exercises to help you narrow down on timestamps are below, use them if you need them, and let's jump to the computer. Sure, we've heard this phrase a bajillion times. You pick your niche,

[00:54] narrow down, you have to narrow down in order to grow. Raise your hand if you million times. The problem with this phrase is that a lot of people misunderstand what picking a niche actually means. So that's why in

[01:09] this lesson we are going to go over the three steps to properly define your vocational niche. And if you haven't heard this phrase before, this is probably why picking your niche in the past hasn't been working for you. Let me

[01:23] break it down. What is a niche? According to our trusty Google dictionary, niche is a specialized segment of the market for a particular segment of the market for a particular kind of product or service. Fantastic,

[01:36] Milly, but what does that actually mean? Let's break this up into two sides of the definition, right? You have the first half, which is niche is a specialized segment of the market. And this is what I referred to as a broad

[01:51] this is what I referred to as a broad niche. Your broad niche is usually what people think of when they hear or teach on this topic. We know fitness, beauty, fashion, travel, education. All of these are a broad niche type, right? And this

[02:08] is great to clarity to have. If you know what category your content falls under, that's fantastic. But is it actually niched down enough? People often forget about the second half of the definition, and that is for a particular kind of

[02:25] product or service. So this is the second half of your niche type, and this is what I referred to as your fixed niche. Your fixed niche is something that gets even more specific with your broad niche. So good questions to ask

[02:40] yourself to figure out what your fixed one is, what kind of blank, or who is my one is, what kind of blank, or who is my message for, what is my style of blank. And filling in the blanks you could say what kind of fashion, what kind of

[02:55] fitness. Here are some examples. So if your broad focus is on travel, you need to get more specific than that. So maybe your fixed niche would be

[03:07] budget-friendly international travel. That is way more specific. Or even fitness. Fitness is too broad. We need to get more specific. Get that fixed to get more specific. Get that fixed niche and say fitness from home for busy

[03:20] moms. It says who it's for. It says the type of fitness. Or even eco-friendly 70s fashion. So maybe you love to thrift, you're doing fashion, and it's focused on 70s style. So get really specific with what kind of blank are

[03:37] you? The third step to picking your niche is making sure that it is your vocational niche. There's this alternate definition of the word niche that oftentimes people overlook, but I think it is more powerful than the typical

[03:50] definition. And that is a place, job, or use for which a person or a thing is best fitted. This brings me into the definition of vocational or vocation. The word vocation is a strong feeling of

[04:05] suitability for a particular career or occupation. So when you put these two words together, it is basically saying that you should be picking a segment of the market that you are particularly passionate about or really care about

[04:21] mistakes I made when I first started growing, and that's why I want to tell you how important it is to pick a niche that you genuinely love, not because other people are doing it. Your enthusiasm behind what you do will give

[04:36] you your unique positioning that will naturally magnetize your audience to you. My biggest mistake was picking a niche that everybody else was doing because I thought it was the successful thing to do. It wasn't until I pivoted

[04:49] and focused on what I truly enjoyed that I finally started seeing results. Now, there are times where it's okay to not niche down, and we're going to talk about that next. But first, if you're somebody who is serious about becoming a

[05:02] content creator, like you know deep down this is what you want to do, you have it's all you can think about, you're like, I feel like I was destined for I have probably the best resource you'll ever find. As some of you may have

[05:16] slightly different from the usual videos here on my channel where we're talking face-to-face. Like it's me here, you get flashy b-roll, all the things, etc. don't already know, which I'm sure most of you do at this point, while I'm on

[05:30] maternity leave, every other week here on my channel I am releasing an exclusive look inside a few different courses that I offer on my website to a good fit for you. The video you are watching right now is a lesson from my

[05:43] course bundle the BSP model, which is the only course bundle that exists for aspiring creators like yourself. It's basically like creator university with access to over nine different courses, 150 lessons, over 35 hours of

[05:58] educational content and material for you to learn from so that you can learn how to go from zero to full-time content creator. The best part is that the lessons are literally laid out in order for you. All you have to do is follow

[06:11] the recommended course outline, take it one video at a time, and you'll see results like these students here. I remember back when I was getting started as a content creator, it felt like information overload. Like there was so

[06:25] much noise with people saying, oh, you need to do this, pick a niche, provide value, be consistent, but also post every day, but don't get burnt out. Like I feel like there was so much noise of what to do. And I wish I just had a game

[06:39] plan created for me that I could follow, and that's what this is. So if you're content creator and you don't want to waste time figuring out how to do it on already wasted time trying to figure out how to do it on your own, BSP is the

[06:55] literal steps for you to follow from A to Z so that you could go from zero to full-time. I'll leave everything you need to know linked down below. And if out some of the individual courses in BSP, I'll be sure to link to some of

[07:10] that is just dedicated to helping you define your branding or your personal brand in the social media space. All right, let's jump back to our video. Now, a question that I get asked a lot is, is lifestyle a niche? And I hate to

[07:24] burst your bubble, but no, it is not. It just based off of the definition that we talked about in this lesson, lifestyle is not niched down enough. It's not narrowed down enough. And when you say that you're a lifestyle blogger or a

[07:38] lifestyle influencer, especially when starting out, you because I'm sure you've heard the saying when you talk to everyone, you're talking to no one. That's very much what

[07:50] again, if you're somebody who is starting from zero or from the ground up, and you really want to start building rapid traction, lifestyle will hurt you. Now, the question is, why? Why is lifestyle not your niche?

[08:07] Let me be very clear. I'm not saying lifestyle content is never successful. I I'm absolutely not saying that because it works really well for so many other people and for so many other platforms. We see people like Alex

[08:23] Earl blowing up on platforms like TikTok simply sharing her everyday life, get ready with me videos. So there are successful content creators out there that are creating lifestyle content on their platforms. But what I'm saying is

[08:38] if you are somebody who wants rapid growth, I'm pretty sure you are because you are here and you want to see success quickly, picking a niche will get you those results faster. It's just the proven method. It works, and that's why

[08:52] we have an entire lesson teaching you how to pick your industry and how to narrow down your focus of your content so you can see results quicker. Now, if after I say that you are still thinking, but Milly, what if I I really don't want

[09:08] to niche down. Which by the way is separate from I don't know how to niche down or I don't know what my niche would be. Those are two separate things. If you don't know how to niche down, we're

[09:20] going to get into that in a second. But if like you physically cannot niche down, that's fine. That's fine. But that just means to accept. The first one being, you're

[09:34] strategy, obviously, and there are two options for you. But they do not see as much of rapid growth as niching down would. So the reason everybody says, oh, you need to niche down, is because it's a proven strategy, it works across all

[09:48] platforms for all algorithms, and that's why everybody talks about it. There are of those strategies we will talk about in lesson six when it comes down to picking the platform that feels best for you or that is the right fit for you.

[10:02] So, you don't have to niche down. There's two other ways and approaches you can implement. They just might not get you the rapid growth that you're just have to pick what your priority is. And then the second thing is if you do

[10:15] not want to niche down at all, you'll have to accept that Instagram is not isn't. So, if you're somebody that's like sitting here, I want to grow on Instagram, you have to niche down. That is how their algorithm was created. When

[10:29] you get to the Instagram course, you will see that that is how their algorithm was created for accounts to niche down. So, either you niche down anyway and pick Instagram as the platform you want to grow on or you

[10:42] a different platform whether that's YouTube or TikTok. Again, I'll help you decide which platform's the best fit for you in the final lesson of this course, but I just wanted you to know that those are the two things you'll have to accept

[10:55] that's really why at the end of the day I recommend everybody just trying to niche down. Just try, see what happens because it works for every single platform. Do the work that's laid out in these next few lessons. Just humor me

[11:09] because this strategy just works. All right. So, you're somebody who can't pick your niche, huh? Maybe you're a multi-passionate person want to post about everything. I can't decide." And I have some good news.

[11:25] There is no right or wrong decision here when it comes to narrowing down your content, okay? It's okay to feel completely lost if you were trying to fill out that sheet and you were just like, "I have no idea."

[11:38] It's okay. What you don't want to do is stress about making the wrong choice when picking your niche and end up not picking anything. If you've made it this far, include this secret emoji in your comment below so that I know who stayed

[11:52] till the end and watch this video next because YouTube thinks you'll like it. see you in the next one. Follow your joy. Bye.
