Cheapest Nissan GT-R in USA! Ugly but fast?
45sShows a rare cheap GT-R with a transformation challenge, hooks car enthusiasts.
▶ Play ClipHoovie's Garage bought the cheapest R35 Nissan GT-R in the USA under $50,000, but it was heavily modified with purple wheels, faded carbon fiber, and cloudy headlights. The video documents the 'un-pimping' process to restore its appearance and then a dyno challenge against three other 600+ horsepower cars to find the king of the garage.
Hoovie bought the cheapest R35 GT-R in the USA under $50k, but it looked awful with purple wheels, extra aero, and faded carbon hood.
The team removes the purple wheels, installs refinished black GT-R wheels with Vredestein tires, and plans to fix the hood, bumper, and headlights.
Magic Mike fixed a leaking head gasket, a known issue with this engine, after the previous owner used stop-leak.
The purple wheels are removed and replaced with black edition GT-R wheels, instantly improving the car's look.
After installing the new bumper, hood, and headlights, the GT-R looks like a proper spec car instead of a hoopty.
Four cars over 600 hp are tested: GT-R, Hellcat, AMG GT S, and Bentley Continental GT.
GT-R makes 530 hp to the wheels, 130 over stock, with intake and downpipe mods.
Hellcat makes 584 hp, very strong for its age and history, becoming the new high water mark.
AMG GT S only makes 496 hp due to boost pullback at 3,000 RPM, possibly dyno-related.
Bentley makes 483 hp, the least of the bunch due to slushbox automatic and AWD losses.
Hellcat proves to be the king of the dyno with 584 hp, still impressive 10 years later.
"Title accurately describes the cheap GT-R restoration and dyno challenge; video delivers exactly what it promises."
How much horsepower did the GT-R make on the dyno?
530 hp to the wheels.
13:37
Which car won the dyno challenge and with what horsepower?
Hellcat with 584 hp.

GT-R dyno result
Confirms the modified GT-R makes 530 hp, 130 over stock, showing the mods are effective.
13:37Hellcat dyno dominance
Hellcat's 584 hp proves its legendary status even after 10 years and with high mileage.
15:05Hellcat value retention
Highlights that a well-maintained Hellcat holds its value, unlike a cheap one needing repairs.
17:54Visual transformation
Demonstrates that proper wheels and paint can dramatically improve a car's appearance without expensive mods.
11:21[00:00] Welcome to Hoovie's Garage, the dumbest
[00:01] automotive channel in all of YouTube.
[00:03] And believe it or not, this is actually
[00:05] an improvement on how my Nissan GT-R
[00:07] looks. Because a few months ago, I
[00:09] bought the cheapest R35 GT-R in the USA
[00:13] under $50,000, but it had been modified
[00:17] a lot. Mostly visually and to the point
[00:19] where people would question if this was
[00:21] actually a GT-R or a dressed-up Infiniti
[00:23] G35. Purple wheels, extra aero
[00:27] everywhere, carbon fiber hood that was
[00:29] all fading, cloudy headlights, it looked
[00:31] awful, but the thing drove fantastic.
[00:38] So, today we're going to do an
[00:39] un-pimping of my cheap Nissan GT-R to
[00:43] show the diamond that was underneath all
[00:45] of that rough. I have Magic [music] Mike
[00:47] here, and Stewart is coming with the
[00:48] parts, and we're going to put a GT-R
[00:50] back together. And once she is back
[00:52] together, I've arranged a little
[00:53] challenge with my three other 600-plus
[00:55] horsepower [music] cars to see which one
[00:57] is the king of the dyno. And we've got
[00:59] one of the two of the GT-R shaken bake
[01:02] here so far. So, Magic Mike, while we
[01:04] wait for Stewart,
[01:06] is putting the finishing touches on this
[01:09] that bad head gasket, Lincoln Blackwood.
[01:12] Moment of truth.
[01:17] Well,
[01:25] running smooth. Running smooth.
[01:27] >> exhausty. A little exhaust leak. I
[01:29] probably need to tighten up a few
[01:30] things. After it gets warm and cold a
[01:32] couple of times, I can
[01:34] get that all tightened up, but she's
[01:36] running smooth, and she's happy. No
[01:38] sound of a timing chain falling off and
[01:40] >> [laughter]
[01:41] >> exploding.
[01:43] Yeah, I got it all in time. We're not
[01:44] bending any valves. We're not puking out
[01:46] the bottom. Okay. But, yeah. So, I guess
[01:50] I guess that means you're going to keep
[01:51] calling me back, huh? I suppose so. But,
[01:54] what's crazy about it is this thing had
[01:56] been leaking from its head gasket. It's
[01:57] a known thing with this engine for
[02:00] what, do you think a decade?
[02:01] >> It was probably 10 years.
[02:03] >> It was It was probably about 80 gallons
[02:06] of stop leak put through this thing
[02:08] while this person just kept driving it.
[02:10] And then I buy it at auction and you
[02:12] know, I of course I dive on the grenade.
[02:14] Some Some of them I do, some of them I
[02:15] don't, but [laughter] Stewart should be
[02:17] here any moment with some beers, not
[02:18] that there's not plenty of crap in here
[02:19] to keep you busy.
[02:21] >> [laughter]
[02:22] >> Now the wizard's, [clears throat] you
[02:23] know, he's in New Mexico half the time,
[02:24] but anyhow, this is good news. Yeah,
[02:27] we're on good terms here. Bad news, so
[02:30] Stewart was refinishing the bumper,
[02:32] painting the hood black, fixing my wing,
[02:34] all that stuff, and he did all last
[02:36] night, put a final coat of clear on it,
[02:37] came back in this morning and the clear
[02:39] had all shrunk and fish eyed and
[02:41] everything, so he's having to redo
[02:42] all of it.
[02:44] So you can come back tomorrow, right?
[02:47] >> [laughter]
[02:47] >> You weren't planning on anything to do
[02:48] with your family on Sunday afternoon,
[02:50] were you? No, I'll come back over here
[02:52] and we'll keep getting them knocked out.
[02:53] >> No, no, but it's no.
[02:55] >> [laughter]
[02:56] >> So it means my car is so of course
[02:59] it's going to go on.
[02:59] >> Nothing goes right.
[03:01] >> But we can get these I mean horrendous
[03:03] purple wheels off of it.
[03:05] >> These are your hot boy summer wheels, so
[03:06] you put your summer tires on here and
[03:08] then your black wheels, you put your
[03:09] winter tires on those. You're in the
[03:11] final days of your hot boy summer, so
[03:13] these still speak to you?
[03:16] I don't mind the purple. I'm going to be
[03:17] honest. I do I do kind of like the
[03:19] purple wheels. Well, I I'm more mature,
[03:21] I suppose. Not [laughter] Not really, I
[03:22] still have
[03:24] seventh grade bathroom humor, but I
[03:26] guess in my taste in wheels, so anyway,
[03:28] yeah, they're over here.
[03:30] There you go. Catch.
[03:34] I know with Hoovie Life there is a
[03:35] little bit of a thrill when it comes to
[03:36] getting in a car, hoping it'll start,
[03:39] and whether it gets where it's going,
[03:40] but I imagine a lot of you have a family
[03:41] that wants to get places reliably. And
[03:43] you have a vehicle that's much more
[03:44] practical to get you there. For me, it's
[03:46] my 2021 Chevy Express Conversion Van
[03:48] that I use for all the family road trips
[03:50] with its huge comfy cabin and
[03:52] entertainment system, the kids [music]
[03:54] never get bored. Since it sits on a
[03:56] 1-ton truck chassis with a 6.6 gasser
[03:58] V8, it's also a great machine to work as
[04:01] well to haul my hooptie projects home.
[04:03] So, with a bunch of summer trips around
[04:04] the corner, it was time to get my van
[04:06] serviced and I use BG products to
[04:08] sponsor today's video to help ensure my
[04:11] van last a lifetime.
[04:12] >> [music]
[04:12] >> Adding BG MOA during your regular
[04:14] service greatly slows oil degradation,
[04:17] protects against engine acids, and
[04:19] stabilizes the viscosity, preventing
[04:21] sludge and varnish. BG MOA also helps
[04:24] ensure critical engine component
[04:26] reliability as well, extended engine
[04:28] life, and maintains peak performance by
[04:30] maximizing the oil additive packs. This
[04:33] 100% synthetic additive is made in the
[04:35] USA here in my hometown of Wichita,
[04:37] Kansas and was developed from BG's 55
[04:40] years of experience getting the most
[04:42] performance and longevity out of your
[04:43] engine. In fact, BG is so confident in
[04:45] their products when purchased and
[04:47] installed by a shop or dealership, they
[04:49] include a lifetime protection for your
[04:51] engine when using BG's MOA. [music]
[04:53] Qualifying vehicles that start servicing
[04:55] using MOA receive a zero deductible
[04:57] engine coverage of up to $4,000,
[05:00] meaning many engine components are
[05:02] covered for the lifetime of the vehicle.
[05:04] That's why servicing my van with BG was
[05:06] a no-brainer, and you can too. With over
[05:08] 50,000 shops using BG products, [music]
[05:10] they're now easier to find than ever.
[05:12] Just go to bgfindashop.com/hoovies,
[05:15] which is linked below, to see what shops
[05:17] in your area carry BG products. Those do
[05:19] look pretty nice. I like the black
[05:22] edition GT-R wheels. That's what this
[05:24] is. And I had them refinished just just
[05:26] because it's going to look much better.
[05:29] And the new Vredestein tires, thanks to
[05:30] Tire Rack. So, that's all mounted and
[05:32] things. And they are they are staggered,
[05:34] so hopefully you can tell the
[05:36] difference. I think we can figure it
[05:37] out.
[05:37] >> Don't put the backs on the front.
[05:38] [laughter] That'd be great. All right.
[05:40] We can do that.
[05:41] It would look that It would look weird.
[05:43] If you didn't see the first video, this
[05:44] GT-R has air ride, which works great for
[05:46] putting up on the lift cuz I can raise
[05:49] up the suspension.
[05:51] Make things super easy.
[05:55] Should I just back it in?
[05:57] Uh either way should be fine.
[05:58] >> Yeah, I'll just back it in.
[06:00] No wheel locks, I wonder why? They
[06:02] probably knew that nobody was going to
[06:04] steal their purple wheels.
[06:05] >> know, some vape kid might see a crime of
[06:07] opportunity there.
[06:09] Yeah. Vape kid probably can't afford a
[06:11] lift jack though.
[06:12] >> Oh, that's right. Yeah, they wouldn't
[06:13] know how to change a wheel. [laughter]
[06:16] That's too hard. Yeah, it's too much
[06:17] work.
[06:19] Yeah, we'll zip these off of here.
[06:23] >> [screaming]
[06:24] >> I'll be as careful as I can not to
[06:25] damage them.
[06:26] Well, I've had multiple people
[06:29] try and buy these from me, so Oh.
[06:32] >> I know.
[06:44] Uh-oh.
[06:44] >> [clears throat]
[06:46] >> Okay.
[06:47] Looks like all of that gym time is
[06:49] paying off. Oh, I have tendinitis in my
[06:53] elbows where it connects to my bicep.
[06:55] All those years of tennis?
[06:57] I don't know what the hell's going on.
[06:58] Get in there.
[07:01] Oh, it's this way. Oh. They've got
[07:03] spacers on here. Do these wheels need
[07:05] spacers though? I guess it looks It
[07:07] looks pretty good with the spacers on.
[07:08] >> Well, is it going to hit when it gets
[07:10] slammed though? Uh we can find out.
[07:13] Well, I don't want to find out the hard
[07:14] [laughter] way.
[07:16] But that's what makes good YouTube
[07:17] content.
[07:18] >> [laughter]
[07:22] >> Mhm. Um Mhm, is that sticking out way
[07:25] past it? Yeah, hang on. Let's let's
[07:27] double check. I don't want to I got to
[07:29] see where those ones sat. Are those just
[07:31] as wide?
[07:33] Well, it's going to be the offset,
[07:34] right? Because of the aftermarket
[07:36] wheels.
[07:37] >> these do sit stick out farther.
[07:41] There we go.
[07:44] Much better. Solid inch spacer on there.
[07:48] That's not good.
[07:50] That's hot boy summer though right
[07:52] there. You don't want to do like
[07:53] performance [laughter] driving. Like I
[07:54] guess they're the nice spacers though,
[07:55] but Yeah, these are pretty solid.
[07:57] >> Yeah, they're not the the crappy ones
[07:59] where it's just literally a spacer, so
[08:01] they actually do move the lugs around
[08:02] and stuff, but Yeah.
[08:05] No more of that.
[08:07] This much better. This is very
[08:08] hellaflush. Well, that's not what it is.
[08:11] HelloFresh or hellaflush? Hellaflush.
[08:14] Hellaflush. Hellaflush. Yes.
[08:16] >> As opposed to HelloFresh. Exactly.
[08:18] [laughter]
[08:19] No spacer on this one. No spacer on the
[08:22] front.
[08:22] >> So, that's how they staggered them,
[08:24] Yeah, that's how they got them to fit
[08:26] right. That is an instant wave of
[08:29] relief.
[08:31] I don't want to admit it, but it does
[08:32] look a lot better.
[08:34] Man.
[08:36] Okay.
[08:37] We just raised the value of this car
[08:38] like five grand
[08:40] >> [laughter]
[08:40] >> by spending a thousand dollars on wheels
[08:41] and another grand refinishing them, so
[08:44] Oh, yeah. Okay.
[08:46] That's a good start, and whenever
[08:47] Stewart gets here, it'll
[08:49] it'll keep going, so Oh, yeah. It'll
[08:51] It's going to turn out to look pretty
[08:52] nice. Sunday funday, Michael. That's
[08:54] what it is. Sunday funday.
[08:56] There's Stewart. Hey, how are you? Good.
[09:00] [laughter]
[09:01] You done fighting the hood and the
[09:02] bumper? I am. Yeah. I see the headlights
[09:05] are here. Yep, they're here, and
[09:09] some of the small pieces over there, and
[09:12] here's some of the brackets.
[09:14] These are all for the big spoiler? Yeah,
[09:16] you know,
[09:17] these are all done, so And you've
[09:19] already been buffing. You came here last
[09:21] night and got started, and it's a
[09:22] totally different car.
[09:25] That's just crazy. You know, it's got
[09:26] great paint.
[09:28] I uh
[09:29] I was actually a little worried about
[09:30] it, and it just buffed up beautiful, so
[09:33] That's incredible. Well, we're waiting
[09:35] for Magic Mike because his night job is
[09:38] very demanding. So he he doesn't need to
[09:40] sleep in a little bit.
[09:42] And uh you know, but when he wakes up
[09:43] and comes around, he'll come back to me
[09:44] in the mechanic again. But obviously his
[09:46] night job's a lot more exciting. But we
[09:47] need him to help with the uh hood and
[09:49] the bumper which are they're outside,
[09:51] right? They're outside.
[09:52] >> Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
[09:54] Yeah, and remember they don't they
[09:55] they're going to look funny. Okay.
[09:57] >> Cuz they're not buffed.
[09:59] So
[10:01] There it is. Yeah, so it's wet sanded.
[10:04] Um it's just the easier for me to to do
[10:07] the final buff while it's on the
[10:08] vehicle. So
[10:09] >> Got you.
[10:10] I'm going to do that once it's on the
[10:12] car. But yeah, the black's going to look
[10:13] really cool, I think. Look who's here.
[10:17] Yeah. How was your night?
[10:19] >> [laughter]
[10:20] >> It was pretty good. I had a good time.
[10:22] All right. It was easy. Got to sleep in
[10:23] a little bit this morning. That's the
[10:25] ticket.
[10:27] So Stewart's leaving to go get some
[10:28] touch-up paint for the little chips
[10:30] here.
[10:32] But then Michael and I
[10:35] can
[10:36] start bolting up this bumper. Yeah,
[10:38] we'll get headlights in and bumper
[10:39] attached and
[10:41] It'll probably take 2 hours with him
[10:43] alone and 3 hours with me helping.
[10:57] >> [music]
[11:02] [music]
[11:08] [music]
[11:13] [music]
[11:21] >> That is
[11:22] so so much better, isn't it? Now it
[11:25] doesn't look like a hoopty. It looks
[11:26] like a proper spec GT-R with some light
[11:30] mods, which is exactly what this car is.
[11:32] There is a very pretty machine
[11:33] underneath all that gobbledygook. So,
[11:34] this is like uh the car version of She's
[11:37] All That. I saw that she was all that
[11:38] and brought her back to being hot again,
[11:41] which April's going to love that
[11:43] reference about me talking about cars
[11:44] like women again. But, anyway, BG, in
[11:46] addition to being very generous in
[11:47] sponsoring uh this video, they also said
[11:51] I could use their dyno, which they
[11:52] actually use for their testing and also
[11:53] the before and afters of what their
[11:55] treatments do to the cars if I wanted
[11:57] to. And I said, well, how about we found
[11:58] out which car is the highest horsepower
[12:00] here in the garage? Cuz it could be the
[12:03] GT-R, but it also could be the 620
[12:06] horsepower Bentley Super Sports, but it
[12:08] also could be my AMG GT S, which
[12:10] recently had a bunch of work done, but
[12:12] also it's not going to be that. We're
[12:14] not going to put that on the dyno at
[12:15] wide open throttle. Uh the obvious
[12:17] choice is my Hellcat. This one's pretty
[12:20] spicy. Four cars that are supposedly
[12:22] over 600 horsepower. So, let's find out
[12:25] who's the king of the the hoopty's
[12:26] horse.
[12:35] So, the GT-R is kind of a mystery box
[12:37] here because I have no idea what [music]
[12:39] the tune is. I see the modifications as
[12:41] far as the intake, the downpipe, that
[12:42] kind of stuff. Sort of a stage one car.
[12:44] But, stock new, this would have been
[12:45] about 400 horsepower [music] to the
[12:47] wheels, and I think it's a lot spicier
[12:49] than that, but today we're going to find
[12:51] out
[12:52] >> [music]
[12:52] >> exactly how much spicier it is.
[12:55] And hopefully not blow it up like the
[12:56] gold one. And then we've got four cars.
[12:58] They're they're hoopty's.
[13:35] >> Stay in one piece.
[13:37] 530 horsepower on the GT-R, so 130 over
[13:42] stock. About what I expected with that
[13:44] one. It hooks up. It's definitely the
[13:46] fastest car of the bunch. Maybe the AMG
[13:47] GT pretty close.
[13:49] This one, well, very stock other than
[13:52] the intake. 707 horsepower when new. I'm
[13:55] curious though, how much gets lost to
[13:58] the wheels cuz obviously this thing's
[14:00] kind of a dinosaur, the manual
[14:01] transmission. But,
[14:04] I imagine on the dyno it's going to be
[14:05] pretty strong.
[14:07] Speaking of strong, the bird poop is is
[14:09] very strong here. I needed to do about
[14:11] 700 mi on this thing with break-in oil
[14:13] before I revved it up to full blast. So,
[14:16] that's just happened yesterday. We
[14:17] changed the oil. And of course, you got
[14:19] to top it off with some MOA since we are
[14:21] at BG.
[14:23] Got a few of these sitting on the shelf.
[14:25] >> [screaming]
[14:26] >> Here you go. Drink up.
[14:30] >> [music]
[14:52] >> Says check gas cap.
[14:57] It's
[14:59] Nope.
[15:00] Evaporative emissions code.
[15:02] It should still be fine. 584.
[15:05] Very, very strong for the Hellcat,
[15:08] especially with its age and its history,
[15:10] but freshly gone through with the Car
[15:12] Wizard and Daniel's son. So, that's the
[15:14] new high water mark for the high
[15:16] horsepower hoopdies, but we know the AMG
[15:18] GTS can come close to this and maybe
[15:21] beat it. The
[15:23] pride [singing and music] of Germany.
[15:42] This thing's camera shy. It was doing it
[15:44] again, pulling 550 torque, 496
[15:48] horsepower. So, pulling all the power
[15:50] back.
[15:51] Reset the codes.
[15:53] Come on.
[15:54] Come on. It's got some corn in her now.
[15:57] 93 30%
[16:00] ethanol.
[16:18] Oh, 500 horsepower.
[16:20] Really? We're back to where we were.
[16:23] Unfortunately, even though it has the
[16:24] right fuel in it, Eurocharged Dallas had
[16:27] it once and it was doing pull after pull
[16:28] after pull with big power, but something
[16:30] just pulls back right at, you know,
[16:32] 3,000 RPM. It thinks something's wrong
[16:33] and it just pulls back the boost.
[16:37] Out she goes.
[16:39] I wonder if it's a dyno thing where it
[16:41] just gets scared on the dyno cuz driving
[16:42] it it seems like it has the power. It's
[16:45] It's incredible to drive, but some cars
[16:47] they just get weird on the dyno. Here's
[16:49] the Bentley
[16:51] in off-road mode.
[16:53] The suspension raised to [music] get it
[16:54] up easily, but twin-turbo W12 620
[16:58] horsepower from the factory. The first
[16:59] Bentley to [music] do over 200 mph, but
[17:02] she is a slushbox automatic and it is
[17:05] rocking those Walmart ignition coils,
[17:07] [music] which may hold things back. I I
[17:09] don't know about that. They seem fine,
[17:10] but all-wheel drive slushbox. I wonder
[17:12] how much is going to get lost at [music]
[17:13] the wheels. The thing about the Bentley,
[17:16] don't need ear protection. So quiet.
[17:36] 483 horsepower. Honestly, about what I
[17:39] expected for a 70,000 mile Continental
[17:41] GT with that slush box automatic. A lot
[17:44] of power steering loss to the wheels cuz
[17:45] there's there's a lot of places to lose
[17:47] it. So, this one's doing pretty good as
[17:49] well, but it is the least horsepower of
[17:52] the bunch on the dyno.
[17:54] Sorry. Well, 10 years later the Hellcat
[17:56] proved that it is still a legend. This
[17:58] thing was unbelievable when it came out
[18:00] and it's still very, very impressive
[18:02] today. It may not be able to handle a
[18:04] corner as well as all the others, so on
[18:06] the track it'd probably be the slowest,
[18:07] but for that horsepower, it's so
[18:10] incredible in 2016 for $47,000 you got a
[18:13] 707 horsepower giant muscle car. And
[18:16] that's why nice ones are basically worth
[18:17] the exact same today. They really
[18:19] haven't appreciated all that much.
[18:20] Unless you buy one like this which it
[18:22] wasn't worth the $26,000 with all the
[18:24] Hemi tick issues all getting torn down.
[18:26] $15,000 later it looks like this, which
[18:28] just buy a nice one in the first place.
[18:30] And when you change your oil, add BG MOA
[18:32] so you don't have any problems down the
[18:33] road. BG is going to be a long-term
[18:35] sponsor for me, so please really support
[18:37] the channel by clicking the link below
[18:38] and finding a shop near you because it
[18:40] is really worth it. Thank you so much
[18:43] for watching. Well, Magic Mike's work
[18:45] here is done.
[18:47] For now. Well, the sun's almost down, so
[18:49] we can't keep him anyway. Now it's just
[18:51] Stewart
[18:54] in the buff zone. What do you think
[18:56] about when you're in the buff zone?
[18:58] What I would rather be doing with my
[18:59] life. No, I'm just kidding.
[19:01] >> [laughter]
