[00:00] Are you marveling at his magnificence?

[00:02] >> This is amazing. I've always heard of

[00:04] these engines being hopped up and I've

[00:05] known that when you do, they turn into

[00:07] just absolute monsters of power.

[00:13] That's crazy.

[00:15] >> It pulls and pulls and pulls and pulls.

[00:17] >> It just doesn't stop. It It's still

[00:20] pulling at near 100 milesPH for a 8

[00:23] million pound Cadillac to just

[00:25] >> It just doesn't stop.

[00:28] No, it's a it's a locomotive. It's got

[00:30] to have at least 600 [music] horsepower.

[00:32] Wheelwood brakes. Is that a W?

[00:38] >> Sure enough.

[00:39] >> Wheelwood brakes.

[00:40] >> This is the coolest thing I bought in a

[00:42] long time.

[00:42] >> It is really cool. Can I have the

[00:44] engine?

[00:44] >> No. Welcome to Garage, the dumbest auto

[00:47] channel in all of YouTube. And a few

[00:48] weeks ago, I went on a buying spree

[00:49] [music] at a collector car auction and

[00:51] brought home five incredible cars. But

[00:53] two were standouts. One was this crazy

[00:56] Cadillac with an engine swap [music]

[00:57] that I'd never seen before and a

[00:59] gorgeous 454 SS. It was an amazing sight

[01:02] to see [music] this fresh batch of

[01:03] hoopies getting unloaded in Kansas. But

[01:06] unfortunately, once I got all of them

[01:07] out on the road and really took them on

[01:08] a shakedown cruise, there was one that

[01:11] had the most issues by a lot, and that

[01:13] is the 1992 Chevy 454 SS. But in this

[01:17] video today, we're going to go through

[01:18] and fix everything on this truck because

[01:21] it's an OBS Chevy and it's pretty simple

[01:22] with the exception of one thing that'll

[01:24] be a little bit pricey, but also because

[01:26] I partnered with Phantom to give this

[01:28] truck away to one of you. I was mulling

[01:31] it over and I just couldn't figure out,

[01:32] well, do I give this one away or do I

[01:35] give away my Ford Lightning because they

[01:36] are just so similar and I was just back

[01:39] and forth, back and forth. that the

[01:40] 454S,

[01:42] it is just so amazingly cool, and I just

[01:45] thought you all would appreciate this

[01:46] one the most because it has a lot going

[01:49] on. But one thing going on with it that

[01:50] is kind of controversial is this wood

[01:53] treatment. Now, this is supposed to be

[01:54] sort of the stealth blacked out sport

[01:56] truck from Chevy. The Cyclone was a few

[01:58] years before this. This is a big block

[02:00] 454, and it's supposed to be sort of the

[02:02] continuation of this stealthy GM

[02:04] vehicle, sort of like the Grand National

[02:06] or the GNX over here. Obviously, not

[02:08] turbocharged. huge engine under hood,

[02:11] but somebody thought they'd make this

[02:12] thing custom by adding this wood

[02:14] treatment on the mirrors on the bed here

[02:17] on top as far as the cover on the

[02:19] interior. And then also when you pop

[02:22] open the bed inside

[02:25] is another wood treatment. And these

[02:27] struts have failed to where I'm holding

[02:28] this thing up with with all of my spray

[02:30] and bed liner here. And it's all

[02:33] beautifully done. Just incredible. And

[02:35] Russ Kinsky, Dr. for wood grain. They

[02:37] credit him for doing this and it is

[02:40] beautiful, but does it really match this

[02:43] truck? So, I was going to immediately

[02:44] paint this thing black, but then people

[02:46] in the comments said, "This is cool.

[02:47] This is amazing. You have to keep this."

[02:49] Uh, so I'm going to leave it as sort of

[02:51] a dealer's choice. So, if you enter to

[02:52] win, obviously it'd be very easy to take

[02:54] this thing off and paint it all black or

[02:56] wrap it, do whatever. Or you could just

[02:58] remove it and rock it with the truck bed

[03:00] totally exposed. The one thing I will do

[03:02] for sure is paint these mirrors because

[03:05] they just they just need to be black. No

[03:07] production car I've ever known had a

[03:09] wooden mirror. So, it just makes no

[03:11] sense to me at all. Even my real wood

[03:13] car over here, my 46 Chrysler Town and

[03:16] Country where they were still using wood

[03:17] construction in the body of the car. So,

[03:19] this is real, you know, teak and stuff.

[03:22] They used metal for me, chrome. So, it

[03:24] needs to go back to black on this thing.

[03:27] I do really like the wheels. As cool as

[03:29] the old 454 SS stock wheels were, I

[03:31] think these definitely work with the red

[03:33] painted calipers. And since this thing's

[03:35] been hot rodded, it makes sense and it

[03:38] can be yours by entering to win at

[03:39] fan.com/hoviesgar.

[03:42] It is linked below a keychain or a mug

[03:45] enters you for a chance to win this

[03:48] truck. You can be bringing it home with

[03:50] this beautiful, freshly built 454. I

[03:53] found an ad years ago when this thing

[03:54] was at another auction. They talked

[03:56] about this engine just being rebuilt and

[03:59] obviously it was painted and completely

[04:00] taken apart for that. Unfortunately

[04:02] though, I mentioned the issues. They are

[04:05] numerous. Or the ignition, it is broken.

[04:07] It is stuck. So, I have to hot wire this

[04:09] thing to start it. We'll do that in a

[04:11] little bit. Also, the air conditioning,

[04:13] it blows warm. This passenger window

[04:16] doesn't work. This truck needs to be all

[04:18] it can be to match how nice it is

[04:20] cosmetically because this is one of the

[04:21] nicest 454 SS's on the planet. It was

[04:24] all repainted and the paint is just

[04:26] nicer from the factory. It's crazy how

[04:28] clean and shiny this thing is. But, uh,

[04:31] it needs to start. So, this is my

[04:33] current starter situation with this

[04:36] wire. It's It's very difficult to see,

[04:38] but back behind this giant 454 big block

[04:40] is a couple of wires. The purple one, we

[04:42] cut a little slit in it to get to the

[04:44] wire so I can touch this to the battery

[04:48] and it will start right up like you're

[04:50] turning the key on the ignition. But I

[04:52] do have to disconnect the battery when

[04:53] the car is not running because the key

[04:55] doesn't turn all the way off. Just

[04:56] change the ignition switch and I'll

[04:57] never have to do this again.

[04:59] Unfortunately though, there was a much

[05:01] bigger issue when I got it out on the

[05:02] open roads. So, we are going to take

[05:04] this thing up to the Car Wizards today

[05:05] for a full inspection to get everything

[05:08] fixed. So, there is the battery getting

[05:10] hooked up. And my 76 El is already up

[05:14] there. There we go.

[05:17] Yes.

[05:25] Smooth running horsey here. So, they

[05:28] made about 17,000 454 SS trucks on the

[05:32] OBS from 1990 to 1993, but the last two

[05:36] years are the most rare, less than 2500

[05:39] built. This one is a 1992 and it got a

[05:42] big performance boost from the factory.

[05:45] Jeez, is very, very fast. And the reason

[05:48] for that is the transmission was

[05:50] upgraded to the four-speed 4L slippy E.

[05:53] And unfortunately, well, this one's

[05:55] doing its best impression of the older

[05:58] 3-speed transmission because

[06:01] that last gear, it just slips. It

[06:03] doesn't exist. And then it downshifts

[06:06] into third gear to where I can go down

[06:08] the road. But that shaved a second off

[06:10] of its 60 back when it was new. But then

[06:12] this thing has been rebuilt and modified

[06:15] and it is so so much flipping faster.

[06:18] 240 horsepower from the factory. It was

[06:20] way more torque than that. But this one,

[06:22] it's a little bit spicier.

[06:26] It is a a fast fast truck.

[06:32] I'm I'm telling you, this would beat my

[06:35] Ford Lightning, which spanked this thing

[06:37] stock back in the day. The 5.4

[06:40] supercharged V8 in the '90s Ford

[06:41] Lightning. in the second generation uh

[06:43] really put this thing in its place. But

[06:45] somebody hopped up this motor to make it

[06:47] very very spicy. Unfortunately, this

[06:49] transmission is is not liking this spicy

[06:52] motor. So, it does need to be rebuilt.

[06:54] This is a very common problem. This

[06:55] transmission is not that expensive to

[06:58] have a shop rebuild it and do it right.

[06:59] So, that's okay. It's okay that I have

[07:02] to fix that and the other issues because

[07:04] overall, this truck is just so clean. I

[07:08] I can't be mad at all. There's just

[07:10] something about these old body style

[07:12] trucks that just feel so different than

[07:15] anything since. And what's nice about

[07:17] them is they have that feeling of an old

[07:19] school smaller pickup truck. Even though

[07:21] this is full size, but also all the

[07:24] modern comforts. So, it's really

[07:26] everything you need. And they are so

[07:28] simple and dead reliable, easy to fix.

[07:29] fix. I mean, with the exception of the

[07:30] transmission, it's was all easy to fix

[07:32] and cheap to fix that. That's why you

[07:34] see so many of these things on the road

[07:36] as daily drivers just totally torn apart

[07:39] and rusting apart, but they still go

[07:41] down the road. They're just so

[07:43] impressive. Other than drinking a lot of

[07:45] dead dinosaurs, no problem making it up

[07:47] here. And there's the Weezard.

[07:51] He's already messing with the eldo.

[07:53] >> Are you marveling at his magnificence?

[07:55] >> This is amazing. I've always heard of

[07:57] these engines being hopped up and I've

[07:59] known that when you do they turn into

[08:00] just absolute monsters of power.

[08:03] >> They are uh Yes, it is incredible. I've

[08:06] never experienced a gigantic boat like

[08:09] this with the power that it has. You

[08:11] have to experience it. Here, hop in.

[08:13] >> All right.

[08:13] >> Cuz it's it's crazy. [clears throat] Two

[08:15] for for you today. I bought five

[08:18] actually but

[08:19] >> two today.

[08:20] >> Two today.

[08:22] But nice fuel injection. So it just

[08:24] starts right up

[08:29] >> a good

[08:31] perfect little burble. You know, it's a

[08:33] little comical because it's frontwheel

[08:35] drive but

[08:39] >> that's crazy.

[08:41] >> It pulls and pulls and pulls and pulls.

[08:43] >> It just doesn't stop.

[08:45] >> It It's still pulling at near 100 miles

[08:47] an hour.

[08:48] >> Really? That's it. I I I don't

[08:50] understand cuz you think the gearing run

[08:52] out of gearing, but it just it just

[08:53] keeps pulling.

[08:55] >> Just keeps going.

[08:57] >> For a 8 million pound Cadillac, it just

[09:01] >> it just doesn't stop.

[09:03] >> No, it's a it's a locomotive.

[09:06] >> It's It's so cool. very much like this

[09:09] unlimited torque where because it's so

[09:11] heavy, it's not going to jump off the

[09:13] line like a supercar, but it just keeps

[09:15] pulling like it just it just won't stop.

[09:19] >> It's got to have at least 600

[09:20] horsepower.

[09:21] >> Here we go. But the front wheel drive's

[09:23] a little

[09:25] It doesn't torque steer though, I think,

[09:26] because the transmission's not that kind

[09:28] of transmission. I don't know. It's

[09:32] That's crazy, man. It's almost like a

[09:34] souped-up Honda Civic or something. The

[09:36] way it takes off.

[09:37] >> Yes.

[09:38] >> Yeah.

[09:39] >> And you'll see the suspension on this

[09:41] thing. Like everything underneath it

[09:43] looks brand new. It's It's wild. So like

[09:46] the issues are just sort of the old car

[09:48] stuff cuz it's never been restored. So

[09:49] like your window that's that's about all

[09:52] she wrote on this window.

[09:53] >> Okay.

[09:53] >> And that back one there doesn't go up.

[09:55] Um it's just like little things like

[09:58] that, little old car stuff. But

[10:01] they actually did this right.

[10:04] >> It feels that way. Yes.

[10:05] >> There's one exception though. Oh, let

[10:06] bump the horn. There's one exception

[10:08] that

[10:09] >> it's like they stopped like

[10:12] >> short like at the one yard line. They

[10:13] ran it all the way across the football

[10:15] field. Not that I'm very good at

[10:16] football references. And then like right

[10:18] at touchdown they're like they just

[10:20] stopped. Interesting.

[10:21] >> Anyway, let me show you. Oh.

[10:24] >> So, when you were marveling at this

[10:25] engine that they say is boarded and

[10:27] stroked, so it's more than 500 cubic

[10:29] inches.

[10:30] >> I was definitely being stroked on that

[10:31] ride. That's for sure.

[10:32] >> So, well, did you notice when you're

[10:34] under the hood that there's something

[10:35] off here?

[10:36] >> Yes, I did right away. There's only one

[10:39] line going to the AC compressor.

[10:41] >> Correct. Yes. The AC It doesn't work.

[10:43] The blower doesn't blow, but also the

[10:45] compressor, it's it looks like a newer

[10:48] compressor cuz in 76 it would have been

[10:49] like an enormous thing, right?

[10:51] >> Yeah. They would have an A6 compressor.

[10:52] It's a black long black one.

[10:55] >> A long black one. Okay. [laughter]

[10:57] Uh-huh. So, this is a modern AC

[10:58] compressor. And they have it hooked up

[11:01] here to the condenser.

[11:02] >> Uhhuh.

[11:03] >> Which is the original condenser, but

[11:05] then nothing going there. It's capped

[11:08] off.

[11:08] >> Yeah. It should be a a hose going into

[11:10] here. This is your dryer and your

[11:12] expansion valve all in one unit. Wow.

[11:14] It's like maybe they ran out of money or

[11:16] the guy passed away or

[11:19] >> it doesn't seem like something that

[11:20] broke. It just seems like something

[11:21] where the job didn't get finished,

[11:23] >> right?

[11:24] >> So, I was ooling around. I noticed that

[11:26] this one's I could almost get it loose

[11:28] with my hand, but this one is definitely

[11:31] loose. So, they just like put the hose

[11:33] there and stopped.

[11:35] >> It is odd. But I'm thinking, you know, I

[11:38] got this thing for 15,000 bucks.

[11:40] >> 15,000.

[11:41] >> 15,000.

[11:42] >> It would cost that much to make that

[11:43] motor

[11:44] >> just to build that motor with everything

[11:46] else like 30 $40,000 into the

[11:49] mechanicals of this thing. Because when

[11:50] you get up in the air, like you'll see

[11:52] like this mechanically completely

[11:55] restored outside. I mean, it's sort of

[11:57] original survivor with some patina, some

[11:59] touch-up here and there. It's in good

[12:01] shape. It's a driver, but this this is

[12:04] insane. Just wait till you put it up.

[12:07] It's

[12:13] [music]

[12:15] >> It's kind of Cadillac City in here right

[12:17] now between Bob's Deville and then

[12:20] >> your Black You swapping that one.

[12:22] >> Yes.

[12:23] >> Don't Don't steal this one.

[12:24] >> No, I'm not going to steal that one.

[12:26] That one's about 80% done. I've got a

[12:28] video coming out soon on it, but it's

[12:30] going to go to New Mexico like it is.

[12:32] I'm not going to have time to finish it

[12:33] yet.

[12:34] >> Okay. Yes. 2020 on the oil change.

[12:37] >> You don't want to remind me the time's

[12:38] drawing near on that, but okay. So, that

[12:40] means this was done a little while ago.

[12:43] >> Uh, 6 years ago.

[12:45] >> Oh, you know, look at the suspension.

[12:48] Look at the brakes.

[12:49] >> Wow. All the bolts are brand new.

[12:50] Everything.

[12:51] >> Look at the control arms. Look at the

[12:52] shocks. Look at the frontwheel drive

[12:54] stuff.

[12:55] >> They had them powder coated or

[12:57] something. They're Wow. They look new.

[13:00] CV shafts, the rotors, brakes are all

[13:02] brand new.

[13:05] It's got Is this Willwood brakes? Is

[13:07] that a W?

[13:09] >> Oh, possibly. Are you kidding me? It

[13:12] >> has Wheelwoods on it.

[13:14] >> Okay, so we need to pop a wheel off and

[13:16] see that cuz that's

[13:18] that makes a lot of sense. When you

[13:19] upgrade to like 600 horsepower, you

[13:21] should probably upgrade the brakes.

[13:22] Yeah. Slotted rotors. What?

[13:26] Are you kidding me? This is like a full

[13:28] out resto mod. We'll investigate that

[13:30] here later. but

[13:33] >> fresh engine.

[13:33] >> So, it's frontwheel drive. The engine

[13:35] sits like a rear wheel drive. Then

[13:37] there's a chain case back here. There's

[13:38] a chain

[13:40] >> that goes to a TH400 transmission and it

[13:42] goes forward. Has a differential bolted

[13:45] to the back of the transmission.

[13:47] >> So, it does like a 360 almost in power

[13:50] >> and that's why it doesn't feel torque

[13:52] steery because of this weird setup

[13:55] because it has an actual diff.

[13:57] >> Yeah. So, it's not tugging the wheel one

[13:59] way or the other, but look at it's just

[14:03] >> that's crazy.

[14:03] >> It's incredible. So, there's, you know,

[14:07] 15 grand in the motor, the drivetrain

[14:09] being rebuilt, and then

[14:10] >> probably another 15 grand suspension

[14:12] here. And then it's a nice car overall.

[14:14] So, this exhaust really sanitary as far

[14:16] as the way it's done, too. Like, this is

[14:18] >> Oh, wow.

[14:19] >> What's that?

[14:20] >> So, the E bra cable is broken and they

[14:22] put in electronic E bra. What? It says

[14:26] Estop.

[14:28] >> Okay.

[14:28] >> The push button emergency brake.

[14:31] >> Why? Just just to spend money, I guess.

[14:34] >> I don't know. Maybe something was wrong

[14:35] with the mechanism under the dash or

[14:38] >> But that's it's easy to fix the

[14:40] mechanism under the dash. So why would

[14:42] >> that? But

[14:43] >> okay, whatever.

[14:45] >> That's fascinating cuz then like here's

[14:47] the dynamic of it. But like this

[14:49] crossbar replaced here or at least

[14:51] repowder coated.

[14:52] >> But the undercarriage, they never

[14:54] restored it. Like most of when you're

[14:56] doing restoration like this, you would

[14:57] at least like spray down in black the

[15:00] undercarriage.

[15:00] >> Yeah, you would think so.

[15:01] >> And paint all this to make it look nice,

[15:03] but they just replaced all this and then

[15:05] left everything else original. It's

[15:08] >> It's so weird.

[15:09] >> It is bizarre. And then how the AC is

[15:11] not hooked up. It's kind of bizarre.

[15:13] >> So then we go to the back suspension.

[15:15] This is frontwheel drive, so there's not

[15:16] a whole lot going on. But once again,

[15:18] >> there's our fuel pump for the EFI since

[15:20] that now has e EFI and not a carburetor,

[15:23] >> right?

[15:24] >> It has air shocks, but

[15:27] yeah, they're they're hooked up. Where

[15:30] do the lines go? They go up to the

[15:32] trunk,

[15:33] >> huh?

[15:34] >> There's a hole in the trunk there.

[15:36] >> Okay. I have not looked in the trunk, so

[15:38] that might be something worth

[15:39] investigating. I suppose

[15:40] >> it's def it's just like a ship. Look for

[15:43] and aft and starboard.

[15:45] >> Look at that. [laughter] for the fancy

[15:48] exhaust tips. But these brakes don't

[15:50] look like uh Willwood fancy.

[15:52] >> No, that looks stock brakes.

[15:54] >> But still brand spanking new.

[15:56] >> This rear axle looks brand I mean

[15:58] literally brand new out of the factory.

[16:01] >> They just they just replaced all of it.

[16:03] So

[16:04] 15 grand with a full mechanical

[16:07] restoration and then this thing hot

[16:09] rodded. And they actually went to the

[16:10] trouble of like, hey, if we're going to

[16:12] put a 600 horsepower engine in this

[16:14] thing, like it needs to be able to stop.

[16:16] It needs to be able to suspension needs

[16:18] to be able to handle the power and all

[16:19] this stuff. Like

[16:22] >> who who did this?

[16:23] >> I don't know. It's very It's awesome,

[16:26] but also strange at the same time.

[16:28] >> It's it's it's very odd. Can we pull the

[16:30] wheel off? I'm just I'm just curious.

[16:31] And then we can open the trunk, too,

[16:33] because I never I never looked in there.

[16:36] stock hub caps and wheels on Vogue

[16:39] tires. And

[16:40] >> anyways, look at the Wheelwood.

[16:42] >> Whoa.

[16:44] >> Whoa.

[16:44] >> Can you see right in through here?

[16:46] >> Okay.

[16:48] Sure enough. [snorts]

[16:49] >> Wheelwood brakes.

[16:50] >> Wheelwood brakes. And it looks like they

[16:52] had to sand it down a little bit for it

[16:54] to clear the stock wheel.

[16:55] >> Yeah, they did.

[16:56] >> They grinded it down.

[16:58] >> Even the wheels have been powder coated.

[17:00] >> Yep. This

[17:02] This is insane. It is the world's

[17:04] fastest 76 El Dorado. It's pretty safe

[17:08] to say.

[17:08] >> Yeah, I would say so.

[17:11] >> Imagine what this motor would do in like

[17:12] a Camaro or something.

[17:13] >> This would be nuts. Be nuts. [laughter]

[17:15] Or, you know, a transmission that could,

[17:17] you know, Yeah. where you could go

[17:18] through the gear. That's the thing. The

[17:19] probably the transmission is the

[17:20] lethargic part of it. That's why it just

[17:21] feels like it just pulls.

[17:24] This is the coolest thing I've bought in

[17:26] a long time.

[17:27] >> It is really cool. Can I have the

[17:28] engine?

[17:29] >> No. No. [laughter]

[17:31] These weren't the most rigid bodies on

[17:33] the planet, were they?

[17:34] >> No. Watch it flex. There it goes.

[17:38] It goes from a 3/4 in gap to a quarter

[17:41] inch gap.

[17:43] >> That's And that's factory.

[17:45] >> It's factory. Well, it's a convertible.

[17:47] That's why.

[17:48] >> Right. They didn't brace them up very

[17:50] much. So, like I remember one of the

[17:51] first episodes of the US Top Gear Adam

[17:53] Ferrari jumped that Cadillac and it just

[17:55] You remember that? Where it just

[17:56] accordion when he landed.

[17:57] >> Yeah.

[17:58] >> That's uh

[17:58] >> Get the trunk open. Yes. And

[18:03] >> there's a spare.

[18:04] >> A brand new spare.

[18:05] >> Bunch of spare parts.

[18:09] What do we have there?

[18:16] >> It's the electronic stop. So, it's not

[18:18] actually hooked up.

[18:19] >> I see. So, they didn't finish that

[18:21] either.

[18:22] >> There's your button.

[18:23] >> Oh, okay. So, another unfinished project

[18:26] there.

[18:28] I don't see. Now,

[18:30] >> the airlines came up through

[18:33] back here somewhere. Right there,

[18:35] >> huh?

[18:35] >> There's where you fill it up manually

[18:36] with an air chuck.

[18:38] >> Oh, okay. So, there is a little tank

[18:40] somewhere.

[18:41] >> So, there is It can fill it up to

[18:43] wherever height you want, but it's not

[18:45] automatic.

[18:46] >> That's right. We had that on the 49

[18:48] Caddy.

[18:48] >> Yep.

[18:49] >> Where it was those air shocks where you

[18:50] just manually got it to the desired PSI.

[18:53] >> Mhm. I knew it would be in there. I just

[18:55] had to find it.

[18:56] >> Okay. But once again, originality.

[18:59] Look at that. And so it's it's just such

[19:02] a It's just such a weird car. It It's so

[19:05] cool.

[19:06] >> I'd like to know the story like as far

[19:08] as they went with it. Why did they stop

[19:09] at at the 99 yard line?

[19:12] >> Right. Once again, football references

[19:14] we are not good at. It's the one yard

[19:16] line

[19:16] >> or is it the hundred yard line?

[19:17] >> It's the one yard line.

[19:18] >> I'm not a football person.

[19:19] >> Me neither. It's obvious. We just talk

[19:21] about cars. But yes, I very odd. So,

[19:25] >> okay. This thing's cool. I'd love if the

[19:27] AC worked and the blower worked for the

[19:28] heater and all that stuff and those

[19:30] windows went down and you know, not sure

[19:34] about that electric parking brake if I

[19:35] need it or not, but

[19:39] there we go. The world's fastest El

[19:41] Dorado. And then one really, really fast

[19:44] 454 SS outside. I'm not sure if it's the

[19:46] world's fastest, but it's it's really

[19:48] quick. A little work to start this one,

[19:50] but the funny thing was the shipper, he

[19:52] was really nice. I told him about the

[19:54] issue with the ignition switch and using

[19:55] the purple wire and he's like, "I got

[19:57] this. I I know what you're talking

[19:58] about. I grew up in a rough neighborhood

[20:00] so I know.

[20:00] >> Grew up in the Bronx or something,

[20:01] >> whatever it was." He's very nice. But

[20:03] then he used the purple wire.

[20:05] >> Oh, yeah.

[20:06] >> Down here.

[20:07] >> Starter wire. Yeah.

[20:08] >> And he started it like in it was gone in

[20:11] 60 seconds. It was It was really

[20:13] impressive. So, I'm not sure how he did

[20:14] it there. He probably hooked it up to

[20:15] something. I just need to touch there

[20:17] and touch it here.

[20:21] >> Yeah. There she goes.

[20:24] What a cobbled up way to start a car.

[20:26] >> Yes, but it got it here.

[20:28] >> Yes, I love the GMT 400s.

[20:30] >> It is. It is very, very good.

[20:32] Unfortunately, there's something you

[20:34] can't fix. No fourth gear.

[20:36] >> Oh, no. We don't do trans the 4L slippy

[20:39] E, whatever they call it. You know, the

[20:41] [clears throat] 4L80 transmission, the

[20:42] four-speed is gone. It's lost fourth.

[20:45] But every other gear is

[20:49] >> it it's it's good. It means business.

[20:51] >> It is very, very good. But we do want to

[20:54] get this thing really nice because I am

[20:55] giving it away with Fanath.

[20:57] >> Oh, it's going to be a giveaway car.

[20:58] >> It is a giveaway car. So, you can enter

[21:00] for a chance to win Wizards since you

[21:02] love these so much.

[21:02] >> Mhm.

[21:03] >> People might get mad if you win though.

[21:04] Be a little They [laughter] might think

[21:05] it's an inside job.

[21:06] >> Yeah, that probably wouldn't be fair.

[21:08] >> But we do need to make it nice. So, this

[21:10] window,

[21:11] >> no worky.

[21:12] >> No work.

[21:13] >> So, I need that to go.

[21:15] And I need the air conditioning to go.

[21:17] And I need this key to actually

[21:20] >> say it doesn't go all the way turned

[21:21] off.

[21:22] >> Ignition switch is is all jacked up.

[21:24] >> It's broken.

[21:25] >> But it's not broken to where the

[21:26] steering wheel locks in. So that I mean

[21:28] that saved my butt. Otherwise,

[21:30] >> I would have been really stuck.

[21:31] >> You would have. These compressors are

[21:32] known for leaking around the case seal

[21:34] here.

[21:35] >> Yeah.

[21:35] >> And they leak their refrigerant out

[21:37] pretty easily.

[21:37] >> I see a little neon. You know, there

[21:38] look like a little neon green there.

[21:40] >> Probably needs a compressor. I would bet

[21:42] >> it's ugly anyway. And the rest of the

[21:43] engine's so nice that that would be

[21:45] >> Yeah. Yeah,

[21:45] >> wouldn't be the worst thing to replace

[21:47] it, but [clears throat] fuel injection

[21:50] on this sucker. Look at the bow tie

[21:52] screw on there. That's That's show car

[21:54] right there to be able

[21:55] >> It's got pache.

[21:56] >> Mhm. Yeah.

[21:58] That's very satisfying.

[22:01] >> Every Chevy should have that.

[22:02] >> It's not plastic.

[22:02] >> No, it's not plastic. Here, take that

[22:04] off. We should have

[22:06] >> TVI.

[22:07] >> Yeah. You like throttle body fuel

[22:09] injection?

[22:09] >> I do. It's one of my favorites. is super

[22:11] simple and it's very easy to replace

[22:13] parts on it and cheap and some upgraded

[22:16] plugs, cap and rotor. EGR valves intact.

[22:19] >> That's good.

[22:20] >> Yeah,

[22:21] >> but she did sort of blast through the

[22:23] transmission. So,

[22:24] >> that's not good.

[22:25] >> Uh, if you could fix everything else on

[22:26] this as soon as possible, I guess we can

[22:28] put up with the lift and see, but then

[22:29] I'll get it down the transmission shop.

[22:32] >> Like, these people can rebuild these

[22:33] transmissions blindfolded. They've been,

[22:35] you know,

[22:35] >> they can do it cheaper than we can cuz

[22:36] they do it over and over. And they've

[22:39] probably done 6,000 of these

[22:40] transmissions because over the years cuz

[22:42] they're just still everywhere. But

[22:44] >> let's see. I guess I should have looked

[22:46] underneath before I said let's give it

[22:47] away on Fanithm. But I don't think

[22:48] there's any surprises with this thing.

[22:50] >> Let's take a look.

[22:51] >> What do you think though about this this

[22:54] bowling alley thing going on back here?

[22:56] >> I'm really not a fan.

[22:58] >> What?

[22:58] >> No.

[23:00] >> A lot of I'm a fan. I understand why

[23:02] people wouldn't want the steel out truck

[23:03] to have this. Danielson,

[23:04] >> is this wrapped or what?

[23:06] >> No, this is somebody's artwork. So, this

[23:08] hand painted and not only that, Wizard

[23:11] lifted up. It's the struts are bad. I'd

[23:15] like for you to replace that. But then

[23:16] it's, you know, old trucks in the '60s

[23:19] and '7s, they had a wood bed. So, it

[23:21] continues in here with a nice spray-in

[23:23] bed liner. So, this is

[23:24] >> this is a lot of work.

[23:26] >> This is a lot of work. And I give them

[23:28] kudos for the they did a quality job. It

[23:31] just wouldn't be my styling. It just to

[23:33] me it completely takes away from the 454

[23:36] SS.

[23:37] >> Right. So, you would just paint this

[23:39] black.

[23:39] >> I would.

[23:40] >> Easy enough to do the mirrors. If you

[23:42] pop them off for me, we'll paint those

[23:43] black cuz wood mirrors make no sense.

[23:45] But

[23:46] >> I'm kind of leaving it up to whoever

[23:47] wins this thing cuz somebody may love

[23:50] this. And I personally love it cuz I

[23:51] love fake wood anything.

[23:53] >> But and the artwork, I mean, the amount

[23:55] of time this took.

[23:56] >> They did a good job though. They really

[23:57] did.

[23:57] >> Insane, dude. I would definitely keep

[23:59] this just because of the work.

[24:01] >> Yep. It's It makes it unique. It's

[24:03] another like, you know, showc car touch

[24:04] for it to pop. But I also think that a

[24:07] lot of people were kind of like, is it a

[24:09] real 454s because of this? And that's

[24:11] why I was able to get it for under

[24:13] $20,000 for the late 92 ones with the

[24:16] faster, you know, better transmission

[24:17] and stuff. So, I think it's a really

[24:19] good deal for what I paid for it. So,

[24:22] >> anyway, up we go. Any surprise? Willwood

[24:24] brakes on this one? Does not appear so.

[24:26] >> No, I think it has stock brakes on it.

[24:29] They definitely had the engine out,

[24:31] painted the block and everything. I

[24:33] wonder what they did. Cam or lifters or

[24:36] what all they did. See, here's our oil

[24:38] pressure sending unit.

[24:40] >> Okay.

[24:40] >> But there's a tube up top is kind of

[24:42] odd. I'm not sure what it goes to. We'll

[24:43] take a look at that in a minute.

[24:45] >> Okay. As I do have the oil pressure

[24:48] gauge.

[24:48] >> Yeah.

[24:50] I don't see anything leaking. The shocks

[24:52] are not blown. Does it drive pretty

[24:54] good?

[24:54] >> Drives nice. Yes. other than the uh

[24:56] transmission, but no suspension or

[24:58] braking issues at all.

[25:02] >> There's a tiny bit of seepage here.

[25:05] This bolt is loose. Could be a rear main

[25:08] seal, which they could do when they had

[25:09] the transmission out.

[25:10] >> Yes, that would be very simple to do

[25:13] >> with the transmission out. It's

[25:14] interesting how I didn't realize that

[25:15] they made up like this. Here it is.

[25:17] Another loose bolt right there for that

[25:19] flywheel cover. So, maybe they had it

[25:21] off, noticed that there's a leak, and

[25:22] then just quickly put it back on. Yeah,

[25:24] they didn't tighten up any of the bolts.

[25:26] They're all finger

[25:28] >> finger loose

[25:28] >> or they were assessing the transmission

[25:30] or whatever and then didn't fix it

[25:32] >> possibly. Yeah.

[25:33] >> But that can all be fixed when they

[25:35] [clears throat] pull the trans out and

[25:37] rebuild it. That's not something you all

[25:38] need to do.

[25:39] >> Big old 4L80E.

[25:40] >> Mhm. Three speeds forward, one speed

[25:42] backwards, and two neutrals at the

[25:44] moment.

[25:44] >> Mhm.

[25:45] >> But this exhaust once again very stock

[25:47] looking.

[25:48] >> This is Flowmasters.

[25:49] >> Oh, they are?

[25:50] >> Yeah. See?

[25:50] >> Well, I stand corrected. Okay.

[25:52] >> Flowmaster. These are original 40s, I

[25:54] think.

[25:54] >> So, this is like a like a day two

[25:56] modification on your 454 back in 1992.

[25:59] So,

[26:00] >> that's why. And the fuel tank that it

[26:03] needs to be three times as big for that

[26:04] 454 but

[26:05] >> Mhm.

[26:06] >> it's doing the job.

[26:08] >> They did a pretty good job. Whoever did

[26:09] all this.

[26:10] >> Mhm. Looks like fresh shocks on the

[26:13] back too.

[26:14] >> Yeah. I see something wet here. Maybe a

[26:17] wheel cylinder.

[26:18] >> Oh,

[26:20] well, we want to take care of that. It's

[26:22] easy fix.

[26:23] >> It is. I can see inside of here the

[26:25] brake shoe has goo all over it.

[26:28] >> Okay.

[26:28] >> So, needs wheel cylinder, some shoes, at

[26:32] least on that side.

[26:34] >> And because it's an old truck, it's

[26:37] thousands of dollars, right?

[26:38] >> Oh, no. It'll be cheap.

[26:39] >> I know. There's nothing, right? Yeah.

[26:42] This rear diff looks

[26:44] looks really clean.

[26:45] >> It's a big boy.

[26:46] >> It is a 14 bolt or something.

[26:48] >> Huge. And overall, the undercarriage,

[26:51] this is a nice, clean southern truck. I

[26:54] had one of these before. It was a 90, so

[26:55] it was a three-speed, not as fast. And

[26:57] the undercarriage, it didn't look like

[26:59] this, so I didn't keep it. But

[27:00] >> wait a minute here.

[27:02] >> What's up?

[27:03] >> It has wood exhaust tips.

[27:05] >> Whoa.

[27:07] >> What?

[27:08] >> Whoa. [laughter]

[27:09] Okay.

[27:10] >> Is Do you have a wooden tip?

[27:11] >> Somebody loves wood. Just a little bit

[27:14] too much. Just a little bit too much.

[27:16] >> That's That's going overboard. That's

[27:18] too much. Yeah.

[27:19] >> M. Well,

[27:22] very passionate wood owner.

[27:24] >> I think they had a little bit of paint

[27:25] left and they said, "Let's do the tips."

[27:27] >> Just just the tips. Anyway, [laughter]

[27:29] all right. Well, I'll turn you loose on

[27:31] this thing and let me know when it's

[27:32] done. Then we'll get it down to the

[27:33] transmission shop and it'll be a sorted

[27:35] car for the Fanath folks.

[27:38] >> Definitely.

[27:38] >> And you definitely want to enter to win.

[27:40] It's just a mug or a keychain. They're

[27:41] veteranowned and operated. They do an

[27:43] amazing job. They've done like seven

[27:44] cars for me at this point. So, this one

[27:46] I believe number eight is it's it's a

[27:50] really cool one. But we'll check back in

[27:51] once the wizard uh gets things going.

[27:53] Well, I'll leave these two fine hoopties

[27:55] in your hands and I guess I can drive

[27:57] home that one. It's like if these two

[27:58] had a baby, my 99 Escalade, right?

[28:02] >> Yep. But first, there's a bill.

[28:05] >> A bill on the Escalade?

[28:06] >> Yes.

[28:07] >> Okay. It was It wasn't much. It was The

[28:08] power steering was leaking. It was It

[28:10] was should be very tiny, right?

[28:11] >> Oh, there was a heater valve. You want

[28:12] to see the old one?

[28:14] >> Yes. My 99 Escalade. It's been a

[28:17] trooper. Just sort of sitting outside.

[28:19] Drive to the airport, drive around good

[28:21] this winter. Heated seats that are just

[28:22] like boiling hot. Incredible. But it

[28:26] started dribbling pretty good from the

[28:28] power steering, I think. Is that what it

[28:30] was?

[28:30] >> Power steering pump.

[28:37] So, we have a brand new pump installed

[28:39] and the leaks have been solved. But then

[28:41] we found another leak. Daniel's son was

[28:43] working on that and he kept seeing

[28:44] antifreeze dripping and it was your

[28:47] heater valve. He went to pull a hose off

[28:50] and it just crumbled into pieces.

[28:52] >> So I was just moments from disaster on

[28:54] that.

[28:54] >> Yeah, this thing here just popped off

[28:56] with very little pressure.

[28:58] >> Okay. So that's an easy fix. But

[29:00] >> so and the new one is just right down

[29:02] there.

[29:02] >> Okay. That would have been catastrophic

[29:04] for the 5.7 Vortekch.

[29:06] >> Yes.

[29:07] >> On this sucker, which these aren't

[29:09] throttle body fuel injection. They have

[29:11] a fuel rail, don't they?

[29:12] >> They have a spider injection. It's

[29:14] underneath this plastic intake. You

[29:16] can't see it.

[29:17] >> It is a little bit different, but the

[29:18] next generation based on that 454. And

[29:21] then the elbow would have been

[29:22] carbbured, but now it's

[29:23] >> it's fuel injected.

[29:24] >> Now it's fuel injected. Well, I guess

[29:25] I'll hit the road, huh?

[29:26] >> No, no, no, no, no, no, no.

[29:28] >> You got the key right here. The keys

[29:29] right here.

[29:30] >> Nope.

[29:31] >> Keys right here. It's not even that big

[29:32] of a bill. And you're still going to do

[29:34] this?

[29:34] >> Yes.

[29:35] >> There's no there's no invoicing still

[29:37] after all these years. All right.

[29:39] Omega's moving to Los Cusus, New Mexico.

[29:41] I don't I don't even want to like think

[29:42] about it yet. I don't think about it

[29:44] yet.

[29:44] >> You don't want to see that right now.

[29:45] >> You distracted people with the Game Boy

[29:47] games. That's That's fun. But okay.

[29:50] >> Power steering pump. Replacing it.

[29:52] Heater control valve.

[29:54] >> Mhm.

[29:54] >> 150 bucks. Not too bad. Oil change. I

[29:57] had no idea when it was done. Grand

[29:58] total. Wait.

[30:00] Wait. Is that [laughter] It's not

[30:02] $7,500.

[30:04] >> Well, yeah. There's an administration

[30:05] fee right there.

[30:06] >> Ad admin fee. I think I think your

[30:08] computer is mixing. Yeah. So $79 the

[30:10] total is $60 in tax does not add up to

[30:12] $7,500. There's a zero there. That's

[30:15] >> darn. Yeah. It's 769.91.

[30:19] >> Okay. So you wrote it down. What's going

[30:20] on with your computer?

[30:21] >> Actually has some information from your

[30:23] Lotus. I just threw random numbers in

[30:25] there for that.

[30:26] >> Oh, so the Lotus the tabs getting built

[30:28] up on that one.

[30:29] >> Yeah. And it's thinking it somehow it's

[30:30] mixing it with that. I don't know why.

[30:32] >> Right. Yeah. The Lotus it's still a work

[30:34] in progress. I'm waiting to put out a

[30:36] video until there's a lot more progress.

[30:38] All right. Well, I'll be back when you

[30:38] get the 454 done with your stuff and

[30:41] then I'll get it down the training shop

[30:42] and I guess the Cadillac as well. You

[30:44] guys can just

[30:45] >> knock those two out.

[30:46] >> Yeah.

[30:47] >> Sweet.

[30:47] >> Ah, home sweet home in this slow

[30:50] Escalade. And it is kind of silly to

[30:52] have four Cadillac Escalades and an

[30:55] Elorado until you come home and you see

[30:58] that white diamond tri coat in the

[31:01] sunset. And this thing, it's back from

[31:04] Van Go and it is looking incredible.

[31:07] This is my 2013 Escalade hybrid

[31:10] platinum. A very, very rare thing

[31:12] because there were very few hybrids

[31:14] sold, but also even fewer platinums. The

[31:16] MSRP would have been around $90,000 for

[31:19] this thing when new. And obviously, it

[31:21] was a lot of work to get this thing as

[31:23] nice as it is. Mechanically, it had

[31:24] noisy lifters, which required a whole

[31:26] engine tear down, the heads off, and all

[31:27] that stuff. And it's been fixed. But

[31:29] also, the bumper needed to be painted.

[31:31] There was a weird PPF on here and Van Go

[31:33] got it all off. Perfect match and

[31:36] looking incredible. Unfortunately

[31:38] though, I did get scammed a little bit

[31:40] on this thing because I bought wheels

[31:42] for it off someone from marketplace. He

[31:44] delivered them to me and I asked him why

[31:46] he took them off his Escalade and he

[31:47] said, "Well, we just wanted to get newer

[31:48] ones." So, I bought these for $700,

[31:50] $800, something like that. And three out

[31:52] of four are hemorrhaging air. The two on

[31:55] the driver's side are terrible. This

[31:57] back one where the cap fell off is a

[31:59] little bit slower, but that is why they

[32:01] took them off because they're corroded

[32:03] on the inside and they're losing air

[32:06] from the wheel itself. I have new tires

[32:08] on them and that's why they got rid of

[32:10] them. But then they put them on

[32:11] marketplace and totally scammed me. But

[32:13] the good news is J&J Autorecking sent me

[32:16] two nice wheels they had in stock. So I

[32:19] have these to put on and I have one more

[32:21] on the way. So we'll have four good

[32:23] wheels. I can put new tire pressure

[32:25] sensors on them and that'll get rid of

[32:26] all the lights in the interior where

[32:28] this thing will be darn near perfect.

[32:29] The platinums had the special leather.

[32:32] It's aged a little bit but still looking

[32:33] okay. And this wood inlay that's just so

[32:36] pretty. So, I am very into this thing.

[32:39] I'm also very into the 99, the first

[32:41] year of the Cadillac Escalade. But

[32:43] again, I need to find wheels for it.

[32:44] These old wheels that are period

[32:46] correct, they are corroding as well.

[32:48] They're holding air, but it just looks

[32:49] terrible. And finding the correct

[32:51] 16-inch wheels is actually kind of hard.

[32:53] I don't want to pay $200 or $300 a wheel

[32:55] individually. I can only find them

[32:56] individually. I want somebody selling a

[32:57] set for like four to 600 bucks. That's

[33:00] still nice. And I know it's out there. I

[33:02] just haven't found it yet. So, a

[33:03] scavenger hunt for five or six months on

[33:05] that. But yeah, four Escalades. There's

[33:08] two in Arizona. One's going to get

[33:09] shipped back here. The supercharged

[33:10] Escalade, but the Arizona Escalade is

[33:12] down there as well. And none of them I

[33:13] paid more than 10 grand for or

[33:15] considerably less, but then fixed a

[33:16] bunch of things. So, if you add them all

[33:18] up, it would buy me well, it wouldn't

[33:19] even buy me a nice Escalade, even a few

[33:21] years old, cuz those are 70 or $80,000.

[33:23] So, maybe having four makes sense. But,

[33:26] we're actually going to check in back up

[33:27] at the Car Wizards whenever he has

[33:29] progress to report on the two cars. So,

[33:31] the weird General Motors Extravaganza

[33:33] isn't quite done yet. So, it's been a

[33:35] few days and I'm up here for that video

[33:37] that's already been out. Yeah, I know. I

[33:40] know. It's really bad, but Daniel has

[33:42] the 454 all the way apart. So, I thought

[33:45] I'd come over here for a little update

[33:47] because there's a bit more involved than

[33:48] we thought with this rear end. Huh.

[33:50] >> Yep. A brake leak turned into a

[33:52] differential leak. A uh new compressor

[33:54] turned into flushing the entire system.

[33:57] >> Okay. So, I see that the uh diffs all

[34:00] exposed here. So, the seals were leaking

[34:02] out by the brakes as well along with the

[34:04] brakes.

[34:05] >> Yeah, it was a mixture of both. Um I

[34:06] have the old shoes down here.

[34:10] >> So, you can see it's all grease and

[34:13] brake fluid. Yucky. Okay. Well, that's

[34:17] not good. But once again, Chevy truck,

[34:19] so it's not the end of the world for

[34:21] anything. But then the air conditioner,

[34:24] that was the other part where this

[34:26] probably hasn't worked for a minute.

[34:28] Huh.

[34:28] >> It has not. So, the orphice tube came

[34:31] out in pieces and we obviously have to

[34:33] get a new one, but there was a bunch of

[34:34] metal in the system and it was clogged,

[34:36] so it wouldn't work.

[34:37] >> So, you're blasting out the lines and

[34:39] all that stuff and new compressor. Is it

[34:43] in? Can you guys see up there?

[34:44] >> Yeah, it's in there.

[34:45] >> Okay. So, it'll all go back together and

[34:48] then I'll have air conditioning at least

[34:49] when I drive it down with three speeds

[34:51] to the transmission shop. Anyway, and

[34:53] hopefully it's a better day than than

[34:56] today in that going inspection with the

[34:58] the oil filter. Oh. Anyway,

[35:02] all right. Back [snorts] up at the

[35:03] Wizards and I thought it'd be fun to

[35:04] drive backtoback sport truck. So, I

[35:06] drove up my 2000 Ford SVT Lightning that

[35:09] I've had for 2 years and literally

[35:11] haven't done a thing to it in two years.

[35:12] I haven't changed the oil, so that's why

[35:14] it's up here. See if Wizard finds

[35:15] anything else wrong with it. But this

[35:16] thing, amazing. Supercharged V8, 5.4 L

[35:20] in great shape. And now I can drive home

[35:23] the fixed 454 SS. Let's see. Oh yeah,

[35:28] that's holding up on its own. And now I

[35:29] can really get a look at this wood. It

[35:32] does look really neat. But the wood is

[35:33] now gone on the mirrors. And that is a

[35:35] major major improvement. That looks so

[35:38] much better. And also a major

[35:40] improvement. Finally, we have a truck

[35:41] with a working ignition.

[35:45] I don't have to hotwire it anymore.

[35:48] That's great.

[35:52] Running better as well. Wizard did some

[35:54] extra work to this thing. And also, we

[35:57] have working air conditioning.

[35:59] Oh, yeah. Okay. So, the grand total and

[36:03] it's really sad to look at bills now and

[36:04] see that Omega is moving. Closing June

[36:06] 15th. It's that's getting close. It's

[36:09] really creeping up on us that Wizard is

[36:10] moving to New Mexico. So sad. But as far

[36:13] as all the work done, I panicked cuz it

[36:15] said $10,000 there. It's actually a

[36:16] typo. The total is like $3,700 to sort

[36:19] this truck entirely out. Of course,

[36:22] there's still the transmission to do.

[36:23] So, next it's going to go to the

[36:24] transmission shop. It'll probably be a

[36:26] little bit less than that to go through

[36:27] the transmission. And then this thing is

[36:29] a darn near perfect truck for one of

[36:32] you. So, we'll have it fixed in a couple

[36:33] of weeks. I'll come back to it when it's

[36:35] fixed. But, this is an awesome rig.

[36:40] Oh yeah, that is much much better and

[36:44] much more comfortable with air

[36:45] conditioning. Thank you so much for

[36:48] watching.
