[00:02] lots of questions such as where is Jean Grey headed on that bus? What is next for Bruce Banner now that he's locked away in a psych ward and when and where will Spider-Man return? Hey, welcome back to ScreenCrush. I'm Colton Augburn

[00:15] and I'm going to answer all of those questions and more. Spider-Man Brand New Day, it was a back to basics close to the ground Spider-Man story in tone and feel while simultaneously being a really big movie with Hulk, Punisher, of

[00:30] villains oh and the MCU's debut of our very first X-Man Jean Grey. So, we are going to talk Peter, Jean, Frank, Bruce, everyone and we are going to explain how all of these loose ends are leading not only to Avengers Doomsday and Secret

[00:44] Wars but there were massive setups for the MCU's mutant saga as well. So, let's start there. Jean Grey, we can finally say with absolute certainty that Sadie Sink is the MCU's Jean Grey. Not a variant from another universe but the

[00:59] variant from another universe but the 616 mainline MCU Jean Grey who has the mutant gene. She was born with it. Her powers were activated likely at puberty along with her sister and she is a classic on the run mutant facing

[01:12] societal persecution and she's being pursued by powerful forces in the government as well as in the private sector who seek to control her. Now, we learn in this movie that Jean and her sister, they were both telepaths and

[01:25] their mother abandoned them following the unearthing of their powers. And her sister Sarah was apprehended by the Department of Damage Control being led by the mutant hating bigot from the X-Men comics William Metzger.

[01:39] >> You, Mr. Milcheck? >> Now, this has sent Jean on a warpath to rescue her sister from captivity. But after she is captured and tortured and experimented on, she discovers that she is not only a telepath but a telekinetic

[01:53] and that her sister was killed during Metzger's experiment. This sends Jean down an even darker path, but Peter Parker is able to alter that path when he invites her into his mind for a character-building speech from Aunt May

[02:06] from his early days as Spider-Man, plus Peter's self-sacrifice to save Jean's life from a lethal bullet is what ultimately convinces her to take a better path, a hero's path, an X-Man's path. And that is the journey that she

[02:20] has just started. In many ways, Spider-Man Brand New Day is just as much an X-Men film as it is a Spider-Man film. And we are now following Jean on her path to becoming a student of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

[02:33] Now, having said all that, I don't think that Professor Xavier or even Magneto will have a very big role to play, if any, in the upcoming X-Men movie that is being directed by Jake Schreier. In fact, I'm not even certain that that

[02:46] movie is going to be called X-Men. I think this movie that is currently in development at Marvel and will begin shooting soon, and will of course star Sadie Sink's Jean Grey as a mutant on the run. I think we are going to see

[02:58] Jean hopping bus to bus, diner to diner, motel to motel as she makes her journey through Upstate New York. And along the way, she will come across trouble as well as some new allies. We will see her meet threats such as abusive drunks in a

[03:11] bar that need to be mind-controlled to go home and rethink their life, as well as a returning William Metzger with his rogue underground black ops team pursuing her across the country. We could even see Metzger wearing some kind

[03:23] of Magneto-esque helmet made out of vibranium, or better yet, adamantium to protect himself from Jean. And when I say Metzger and his goons, I don't mean the very public-facing Department of Damage Control, but something more along

[03:35] the lines of a top-secret task force, one likely funded by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who we of course know from Thunderbolts, and who we know from Daredevil Born Again season 2 has very corrupt, shady dealings on the black

[03:48] market, and who is working with Mr. Charles, who has enhanced beings like Luke Cage and Bullseye running missions in other countries. Val, Mr. Charles, and Metzger all want to control enhanced people. And now, Metzger's going to have

[04:02] a very personal determination to capture this one that got away. And this will all result in Jean being tested. We have seen her break bad in brand new day. And the help of Spider-Man. But now, with the man who tortured and killed her

[04:17] sister still pursuing her and other mutants, Jean will face the same challenge that Peter did when faced with killing the Green Goblin in No Way Home. And she will have to decide what kind of hero she wants to be. She'll have to

[04:29] decide if she wants to give fuel to Metzger's mutant-hating fear-mongering fire about mutants being dangerous or if she will take the high road and spare him. I think we're also going to see Jean meet fellow mutants along the way,

[04:42] likely by using her telepathic powers to find them, just like Professor X does >> Oh, look at this. Gas prices are going up again. It's the end of times. Oh, >> Yeah, I guess we better barricade the door before the local factions show up

[04:56] to fight us for gas. And it is crazy, you know, how gas is just getting higher higher for you guys, too, wherever you live. And that is why I like to use the free Upside app to find the cheapest gas

[05:09] in my area. Then, I can get cash back every time I get gas or eat out or go to the grocery store. In fact, I just got 13% off a gallon of gas. We really love decided to sponsor today's video. So, here's how it works. You open the app,

[05:24] claim an offer, pay with your card like you normally would, and then you get paid. That's it. And I'm talking about real cash back. No points you'll never use, not credits that expire. I have got $45 right now sitting in my account, and

[05:38] I can use it for a gift card or just cash straight into my bank account. It's that easy. Users have earned $1 million in cash back every single week. And unlike other programs, you can stack Upside with your existing credit card

[05:51] and loyalty reward points. There are more than 100,000 participating locations. My local diner, in fact, participates and I've gotten 30% cash back every time I've eaten there. And not to mention the money that I have

[06:04] saved on gas. Upside has given back $1 billion to its users in total. So, to find out how much you could earn, download the free Upside app and use promo code Screen Crush to get an extra 25 cents

[06:17] back for every gallon on your first tank of gas. That's an extra 25 cents back for every gallon on your first tank using promo code Screen Crush. Now, back could also see a cool situation where Metsger isn't actually solely pursuing

[06:32] Jean, but he's really out there in the field rounding up mutants. And Jean is hunters to get to her fellow mutants first and save them. And that could be when Metsger realizes, "Oh my god, Jean, she's involved. I'm coming for her."

[06:47] Metsger and his team will also now have this newly created universal mutation inhibitor chip based on Peter Parker's creation. And long story short, this movie of mutants, maybe they even call the film Runaways. I know that's a whole

[07:01] could work well. Give it a subtitle with like, I don't know, Mutants or The Dawn don't care. But in that movie, you have Jean meet fellow mutants like Scott Summers, Cyclops, her future boo, Hank McCoy's Beast, Bobby Drake's Iceman,

[07:17] Angel. Now, that list is very male-heavy, but I'm just basing it on reason though that you couldn't also bring in Storm. Granted, I would rather see her introduced in Black Panther 3. And in fact, there are some reports that

[07:31] that is exactly what is going to happen. You could also bring in Rogue. God, I bring in Kitty Pryde, whoever you want. And you can have them be this group of runaway young teens who have to dine and dash and sneak into empty hotel rooms as

[07:45] they make their way zip code to zip code to avoid capture. And it has recently been confirmed that Samara Weaving will be playing the MCU's Emma Frost, who is totally going to have a role in this film. And who we have to keep in mind is

[07:58] a fellow telepath. So, I think her and Jean Grey are definitely going to come face to face, or at least mind to mind. So then, come the end of that movie, you she's met along the way. They band together and they find a home, perhaps

[08:11] with a telepath that Jean has been communicating with throughout the film, who has been guiding her throughout the entirety of the story, helping her find other mutants and helping her to avoid capture, and then of course leading them

[08:23] all to his home, a mansion in Westchester. As they arrive, you then have the door open, a wheelchair rolls out, and we meet the MCU's Professor Charles Xavier. Or maybe they delay the introduction of Xavier and they have

[08:35] Emma Frost running the school like in the comics. All right, well, that covers move to my granny's absolute favorite character this movie, Frank Castle. I kid you not, my granny has never seen the Daredevil series or the Punisher

[08:48] series, any of the Punisher movies, nothing. This was her first exposure to Frank Castle and she absolutely adored him. So, what's next for old Frank? Well, prior to his big screen debut here in Spider-Man Brand New Day, we last saw

[09:00] the Punisher in Daredevil Born Again season 1 and in his Disney Plus special presentation, Punisher One Last Kill. Now, when asked in an interview on the promo tour for Brand New Day, Bernthal had this to say about what he would like

[09:12] >> I want to see how Frank can serve. I want to see how Frank can honor the that he lost by serving. >> So, here's where I think we're going to be seeing Frank next. I have three to four projects that I think he'll be in

[09:25] pretty much a shoe-in. Number one, we've got to get another season of Punisher, right? Or a Punisher R-rated theatrical film, maybe even both. I mean, while Jon Bernthal certainly made his name on the small screen and TV. He is slowly become

[09:39] a full-fledged movie star appearing in films like Fury, The Accountant series, and most recently Christopher Nolan's Odyssey. Bernthal has done something have done successfully and that is go from being a TV actor to a movie actor

[09:53] and then still being able to do both. Disney Plus, I think would be crazy not to immediately green-light another season of Punisher, a show that if done right and maybe in the vein of like an HBO style crime drama, it could be one

[10:06] time, I think Marvel Studios would be crazy not to be considering a Punisher movie starring John Bernthal do the classic lone wolf and cub motif that we've seen work so well in his own

[10:18] series and in films like Logan. We know Marvel is open to making R-rated movies like with Deadpool and Wolverine having been their first and it didn't there are rumors that Ryan Gosling's Ghost Rider movie may also be rated R.

[10:31] So, I see no reason that they wouldn't be open to doing a Punisher movie as well. Cuz Marvel, they really have the opportunity here to start the MCU version of their Marvel Knights books, which took certain characters like

[10:43] Punisher into darker, more adult stories. And a Punisher movie would be a great addition to that lineup and Bernthal's ability to jump between movies and television and now the character of Punisher's proven ability

[10:55] to do that as well, that could be the perfect and rare opportunity for a character to exist on both the big screen and the small and have immense success doing both. Now, with Bernthal popping up in Spider-Man, I can't help

[11:07] but wonder if we'll see his next big screen appearance be in the same place Holland's Spider-Man next. That being Avengers Secret Wars. Everyone in their Secret Wars. So, I think there's a very good chance that we see Punisher pop up

[11:22] something to Doctor Doom. >> Let me tell you something, MAN. DON'T TOUCH HIM. >> And lastly, I think Punisher shows up in more Spider-Man movies. The Day trilogy has just begun and we are going to be

[11:35] Spider-Man movies, likely directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and I think it would be a great idea to keep Frank on as a supporting character in this trilogy. All right, staying on the theme of MCU alum, let's move to Bruce Banner,

[11:48] of MCU alum, let's move to Bruce Banner, the Hulk and what's next for mean green. >> Well, in Brand New Day, we hear that Banner has been sent to a psychiatric facility following his Hulk out at DODC. Banner had done so good for so long at

[12:02] keeping the Hulk at bay, but following the mind manipulation of Jean Grey, the Hulk was finally able to find his way out. Now, I know the rights to Marvel actually getting a Hulk movie distributed have thrown a massive wrench

[12:14] in us actually getting that standalone Hulk movie that we've all wanted, but let me just say, a movie with Bruce Banner in a psych ward. I'm talking straightjacket, padded room, therapy sessions, big needles, shots of sedative

[12:26] and us getting this Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde exploration of the character of this science fiction horror psychological thriller vibe to it, that would be awesome. A movie where we finally see Bruce Banner and the Hulk

[12:41] the void of their mind. Explore this character and have Bruce learn that his solution to the Hulk was cruel and always a recipe for disaster and never this harmonious thing that he pretended it was. That would be a dope movie. And

[12:55] facility that he is in be bad news. Maybe there's like one good therapist or doctor or nurse in there, while the rest of the staff are just complete pieces of [ __ ] who treat the patients horribly and the patients could be revealed to also

[13:08] be super people or mutants that are being held captive and experimented on. Spider-Man Brand New Day did a really good job at introducing the concept of mutants into the MCU as really just the standard enhanced individuals that we

[13:21] know exist in the MCU and they're now popping up more and more and soon these individuals will be given a classification, mutants. And what did Bruce Banner and Spider-Man accidentally become the J. Robert Oppenheimer of? The

[13:35] universal mutant inhibitor collar. Bruce could see up close and personal in his captivity in this ward that his fellow inmates are all different enhanced individuals that are being sedated by the very tech that he helped create, the

[13:48] inhibitor. This movie could be great for the MCU's mutant saga and could introduce even more mutants into the MCU. We could also get introduced to characters like Mr. Sinister, Bolivar Trask, and of course, Stryker. All

[14:00] right, so that's Hulk. Hopefully, we finally get that long-awaited Hulk solo film, or they could easily get around it by making it a mutant movie that takes place in a psych ward like we saw in New Mutants and simply have Bruce Banner be

[14:12] a lead in that film alongside some other mutants. Now, let's talk Avengers, right? Brand New Day featured a cameo appearance from the leader of the New officially taken on the moniker of her late sister, Black Widow. Now, we know

[14:26] what's next for her in the Avengers, right? Avengers: Doomsday. It comes out in like 4 months. So, that's very exciting, but I also think this makes clear that Marvel has plans for Yelena to be the lead of Avengers movies

[14:38] post-Secret Wars. Movies that feel more like a back-to-basics Age of Ultron style Avengers movie. A movie that I think will feature Yelena and Sam together leading the Avengers the same way that Steve and Natasha did toward

[14:51] the end. I personally think that Bucky doesn't make it out of Doomsday alive. finally brings Sam and Yelena together to bury their proverbial hatchet and be think that could be the title of the first Avengers movie post-Secret Wars,

[15:06] The New Avengers. It'll serve, of course, as a sequel to Thunderbolts, but also a little bit of a sequel to Captain America: Brave New World and just as a new fresh start for Avengers movies in this new saga. I think you could also

[15:18] have Steve Rogers in the movie as like the new director of Shield or as a candidate for president running against Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. I love the idea of Steve Rogers not wanting to be president, but then see him get

[15:30] convinced that he is the only candidate that stands a chance at actually beating Valentina, so he feels called to it. You can also have Ant-Man in there, Shang-Chi, Ghost, Falcon, John Walker, and of course throw Alexei in there,

[15:42] too. And you have to have the villain be, of course, a mutant. And hey, by the way, be sure to check out our merch store, screensmashmerch.com. We've got shirts. We've got this great Spider-Man-inspired collection featuring

[15:54] one of my new favorites, a callback to Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man testing out his organic webbing for the first time. And we've been talking a lot of mutants in this video, so be sure to check out our X-Men-inspired collection as well.

[16:06] to support our channel. Thank you so much for your support. All right, and last but certainly not least, we need to talk about what is next for Spider-Man. What is next for Peter Parker and of course Ned and MJ? We know Tom

[16:20] Spider-Man surely to God has to show up in at least Avengers: Secret Wars. And it is likely that that could be the film where we finally see his Spider-Man come in contact with the black suit, the symbiote, Venom, just like in the

[16:32] post-credit scene of Brand New Day may have even teased what Peter's involvement will be in Doomsday or even more likely Secret Wars. But what about after that? What about after Secret Wars and the Spider-Man films to come in the

[16:45] mutant saga? Brand New Day was a brand new start to a new trilogy of Spider-Man films. And the movie ended with Ned finally remembering who Peter Parker was via muscle memory with he and Peter's handshake that was finally able to break

[16:58] through the spell. And we see at the end of the film, despite MJ still not remembering Peter, she is on the rooftop that they used to both sit at and she is holding her Black Dahlia necklace indicating that yes, deep down that

[17:10] memory of Peter is still in there and that barrier just needs to be broken. channel, so yeah, shout out to my here on Screen Crush, please do feel free to check me out there as well. Link

[17:22] have theorized there, I think Jean's little snide comment about Peter thinking true love's kiss actually broke the spell. I think that might be an actual clue at how MJ will come to remember Peter. The last thing Peter and

[17:35] Ned did in No Way Home during their goodbye was their handshake. And that handshake is ultimately what makes Ned remember who Peter is. So, what was the last thing that MJ and Peter did? They kissed. I think at some point, likely in

[17:48] the next Spider-Man movie, we will see MJ initiate a kiss with Spider-Man when that she'll actually be present for her, unlike in this movie when Jean was at the wheel. And this kiss will unlock those memories the same way that Peter

[18:00] and Ned's handshake did. Guys, Tom Holland's time as Spider-Man, I I think anywhere near the end. We're definitely getting at least another two Spider-Man films to close out this trilogy, and I think we'll see Spider-Man pop up in

[18:13] several MCU films along the way. He'll be a very important piece to this new big role to play in whatever this new saga's big capper ends up being. But as trilogy that started with Brand New Day, there is still a lot to explore. There's

[18:28] to see on the big screen in a Spider-Man film like Mr. Negative, Jackal, Hobgoblin, Chameleon, that one didn't count, Kraven the Hunter, that one also didn't count, Rhino, that one didn't count, or that one. And of course, there

[18:41] is Venom, who we have seen done several times on the big screen, but it has been nearly 20 years since we have seen Venom and Spider-Man trade blows on the big screen, and I think that's coming soon. I think we have to see Venom and Carnage

[18:53] in a Spider-Man movie before Holland's time as the character is done. Have black suit Spider-Man, have him fight Venom, maybe have MJ's boyfriend come in and he becomes Venom. They They cast a great actor already for that boyfriend

[19:05] Venom after they fight, you have them team up, work together to take on Carnage or like a Symbiote invasion. Come on. Come on. Yes, do it. All right, what's next following Spider-Man brand new day. The future is looking bright.

[19:19] It's a brand new day over at Marvel and well, the next film is called Doomsday. It is looking like the predicted Doomsday for Marvel Studios is very much so not happening. We are back and we have got lots of greatness to come. If
