[00:00] what are the most reliable used cars you

[00:02] can buy well in this video I'm going to

[00:04] tell you car is teamed up with warranty

[00:06] wise which is the UK's leading provider

[00:08] of aftermarket warranties and they have

[00:10] the data from thousands of breakdowns

[00:11] and car related problems they analyze

[00:13] the data to work out which cars are the

[00:15] most and least reliable they record the

[00:17] age and mileage of each car they know

[00:19] how much they cost to fix and how long

[00:21] the repairs took they ignore cars which

[00:23] had less than 100 warranty plans to

[00:25] ensure a fair sample size and vans are a

[00:27] whole separate thing so they've excluded

[00:29] those as well well although you will

[00:30] find a pickup in this list somewhere all

[00:33] the models in warranty wise's data were

[00:34] less than 10 years old and none had any

[00:36] of their manufacturers official warranty

[00:38] left after all you buy an aftermarket

[00:41] warranty once the manufacturer's

[00:43] warranty has run out they factored all

[00:45] this information into a reliability

[00:46] index which gives each car a score out

[00:49] of 100 the higher the score the more

[00:51] reliable the car is so let's get

[00:53] cracking with the most reliable used

[00:55] cars of 2024

[01:00] in 10th place it's the Mitsubishi ASX it

[01:03] scored 85.3 out of 100 if you were

[01:06] likely to have problems with one of

[01:07] these small SUVs the stats say the most

[01:09] likely area would be the suspension the

[01:11] average repair bill paid out by warranty

[01:13] wise on these cars was

[01:15] £755 but the highest bill seen by one of

[01:17] these was for an engine problem which

[01:19] cost £

[01:21] 3,343 to put right overall though the

[01:24] trusty ASX is pretty reliable so it

[01:26] deserves 10th place except it's not the

[01:29] only car in that slot because the Honda

[01:30] CRV also scored 85.3 points in warranty

[01:34] wise's reliability index I'm talking

[01:36] about the fourth and fifth generation

[01:37] cars sold from 2014 onwards they earned

[01:40] their top 10 place with an average

[01:42] repair cost of just

[01:43] £592 which is a little less than the

[01:45] Mitsubishi if anything's going to go

[01:47] wrong the most likely area is the

[01:49] electrical system although the biggest

[01:51] baill warrantywise saw for a CRV was for

[01:53] a gearbox issue that cost £

[01:56] 2,819 to fix I should add this is the

[01:58] most reliable 76 in this top 10

[02:00] Countdown so it's one to depend on if

[02:02] you got lots of mates you can't stop

[02:04] breeding onto Ninth Place and it's

[02:05] another joint billing this time for the

[02:07] Volkswagen up and the second generation

[02:10] Kia seed both of which scored 87.1 out

[02:13] of 100 the little Volkswagen made owner

[02:15] sweat with a common air conditioning

[02:16] fault and the average repair cost

[02:18] according to warranty wise for all up

[02:20] issues was £

[02:21] 554 the biggest bill came to £

[02:24] 1,048 which was to mend a faulty fuel

[02:26] system overall though small car small

[02:28] problems as for the k the biggest

[02:30] problem for owners was remembering where

[02:32] the apostrophe goes in the name anyway

[02:34] they scrap that name beyond that seeds

[02:36] racked up an average repair bill of £

[02:38] 612 and the most common problems were

[02:40] with the brakes the biggest bill on a

[02:42] single car mind you was £

[02:43] 2,450 for a gearbox fault maybe there

[02:46] was a rogue apostrophe jammed in it how

[02:48] come these cars share the same score

[02:49] when the Kia repair costs are higher

[02:51] than the Volkswagen well it's because

[02:52] the Volkswagen up tended to be newer and

[02:54] have fewer miles on them than the Kia

[02:56] when they had issues and when you factor

[02:58] that into the results warranty wise gave

[03:00] both cars the same reliability index

[03:02] score onto eighth place which is

[03:03] occupied by the Toyota rensus

[03:06] specifically the third generation car

[03:08] sold between 2015 and 2018 fun fact this

[03:11] model has the highest average mileage of

[03:13] any car in our top 10 with over 93,000 M

[03:17] on average for the cars according to

[03:19] warranty wires the most common thought

[03:21] with the Avensis was to do with the fuel

[03:23] system and the average repair bill was a

[03:25] chunky

[03:25] £89 but one events sis actually needed

[03:28] £1,950 £58 spending on it to fix the

[03:31] turbocharger on to seventh place and

[03:33] it's another joint billing this time

[03:35] between a pair of small cars it's a

[03:37] second generation Toyota iGo and the

[03:39] third generation Mazda 2 both scoring

[03:41] 88.4 out of 100 the iGo is the smaller

[03:44] of the two and as you'd expect has the

[03:46] smaller bills the average repair cost

[03:48] according to warranty wise was £51 and

[03:51] the most common issues with the iGo were

[03:53] to do with the clutch meanwhile the

[03:54] highest Bild that they paid out for on

[03:56] an iGo was

[03:58] £590 for a problem with the car's

[04:00] electrical system for the Mazda the most

[04:02] common issues were suspension related

[04:03] and the average repair cost worked out

[04:05] to

[04:06] £63 the highest bill on a Mazda 2 was

[04:09] quite a lot more than on the iigo it was

[04:11] a fort with one car's fuel system which

[04:13] cost a staggering

[04:15] 3,636 to put right one reason why the

[04:17] Mazda got the same overall score though

[04:19] as the Toyota despite having more

[04:21] expensive repairs was because the

[04:22] repairs took less time to carry out on

[04:25] average so the owner's car was off the

[04:27] road for less time and this is another

[04:29] thing that is factored into the scoring

[04:32] index in sixth place is another small

[04:34] car the C it me which scored 89 out of

[04:36] 100 it also had the lowest average

[04:38] repair bill in this top 10 at

[04:40] £489 per fix the most common issues were

[04:43] to do with the cooling system and the

[04:45] heftiest bill ever seen on one of these

[04:46] according to warranty wise was only £

[04:49] 1,296 and it was to fix a gearbox

[04:51] problem now you might be thinking Al on

[04:53] a sec the Volkswagen up is the exact

[04:55] same car as the me so how come they

[04:57] don't get the same reliability score

[04:59] well warranty wise's data show the

[05:01] average mileage on the Mii before it had

[05:02] any issues was over 68,000 Mi compared

[05:05] to 53,000 Mi on average for the up and

[05:08] warranty wise also found that there was

[05:10] less chance overall of the seat going

[05:12] wrong compared to the Volkswagen which

[05:14] is why the seat beats the Volkswagen in

[05:16] this list if you're changing your car

[05:18] then you got to check out car wow

[05:20] because there's nothing quite like

[05:21] knowing that you're getting a great

[05:22] price both when selling your old car and

[05:24] finding a new one car makes all the

[05:25] stuff that's hard work about car

[05:28] changing like the Hagg

[05:30] the no

[05:32] shows and the nasty surprise is a thing

[05:36] of the past life changing now if you

[05:38] want to go a car while right now I'll

[05:40] put a link in the description of this

[05:42] video and the Ping comment alternatively

[05:43] you can click on the pop out Banner ping

[05:45] in the top right hand on the screen now

[05:47] or scan the QR code on screen using your

[05:49] mobile phone to go directly there car

[05:52] change car wow now we're on to the top

[05:54] five and it starts with the Suzuki SX4

[05:57] specifically the second generation model

[05:58] sold after 20 4 this car scored 89.3 out

[06:02] of 100 making it the most reliable small

[06:04] SUV in this rundown according to

[06:06] warranty wise the average repair bill on

[06:08] an SX4 is £

[06:10] 1,358 and the most common problems

[06:12] relating to the cooling system however

[06:14] warranty wise did have to pay out £

[06:18] 6,483 to fix an engine problem on one

[06:20] particular SX4 now that sounds very

[06:22] expensive compared to the other cars on

[06:24] this list so why does the SX4 get such a

[06:26] high reliability score well one reason

[06:28] is that the Suzuki tends to be older

[06:30] than most cars before it encounters

[06:31] problems and according to warranty wise

[06:33] the average age of these cars before

[06:34] they needed repairs was almost 9 years

[06:37] old that's as high as any car in this

[06:39] top 10 list on to fourth place and it's

[06:41] another joint billing shared between two

[06:44] very different cars the only thing

[06:45] they've got in common is that they're

[06:46] both Japanese you're pulling a surprise

[06:48] face I can tell you you wouldn't expect

[06:50] Japanese to do so well in this survey a

[06:52] anyway in fourth place we have the

[06:54] second and third generation Suzuki Swift

[06:56] and the seventh and eighth generation

[06:58] Toyota hux made after 2014 these cars

[07:01] both scored 89.6 out of 100 in the

[07:04] warrantywise reliability index most

[07:06] common problems on the Suzuki Swift are

[07:08] to do with its air conditioning and the

[07:09] average repair bill on the car works out

[07:11] to

[07:12] £588 according to warrantywise but one

[07:14] person out there saw a bill of £

[07:17] 2,411 because something had gone wrong

[07:19] with the car's engine presumably

[07:20] something quite big even so the little

[07:22] Suzuki hatchback has rightly earned its

[07:24] impressive fourth place now on to theux

[07:26] the only pickup in our top 10 it's a

[07:28] bigger and more expensive machine than

[07:30] the Suzuki Swift and the average repair

[07:31] bill reflects that coming in at £

[07:34] 1,512 the most common problems are with

[07:36] the suspension and in one particular

[07:38] case sorting a suspension fault cost

[07:40] warrantywise £

[07:41] 3,894 to fix now if you're wondering how

[07:44] the hux and Swift can occupy the same

[07:46] slot when their repair prices are so

[07:48] different the answer is that

[07:49] statistically the Toyota Hilux went

[07:51] wrong less frequently than the Suzuki

[07:53] well what do you expect it's a hux after

[07:55] all the world's toughest vehicle now

[07:57] though we're into the top three and it

[07:58] starts with a another Toyota the third

[08:00] generation Yaris it scored 91.5 out of

[08:03] 100 according to warranty wise the

[08:05] average repair bill on one of these

[08:07] Toyota Yaris is is £

[08:08] 587 the most common problems relate to

[08:11] the car's electrical systems although

[08:13] the most expensive Bill to fix a Toyota

[08:14] Yaris came to

[08:16] 2366 to put a gearbox fault right now

[08:19] we're up to the second most reliable car

[08:21] according to warranty wise and it is the

[08:23] Kia Wenger with a score of 93.6 out of

[08:26] 100 the Wenger doesn't seem to go wrong

[08:28] very often but if it does the most

[08:30] likely issue will be the electrical

[08:31] system warranty wise found that the

[08:33] average repair bill on a Kia venger was

[08:35] £

[08:36] 684 but one person did have an issue

[08:38] with their cost steering and it racked

[08:40] up a bill of £

[08:43] 2,883 now before I announce the most

[08:45] reliable car I want to name check a few

[08:47] models that aren't in this top 10 but

[08:49] come top in their respective categories

[08:51] starting with the most reliable limine

[08:54] and it's the Audi A8 specifically the

[08:56] third and fourth generation models also

[08:58] known as the D4 and 5 in Audi nerd speak

[09:01] they scored 59.6 out of 100 so not so

[09:04] brilliant really but it's better than

[09:06] cars like the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes

[09:08] S-Class now the most common problems

[09:09] with the Audi A8 are to do with the

[09:11] Emissions Control Systems the average

[09:13] repair bill on the A8 according to

[09:14] warranty wise worked out to

[09:17] £1,550 but there was one A8 which had a

[09:19] problem with its fuel system that cost a

[09:21] staggering £

[09:23] 6,128 to put Right Moving On we come to

[09:26] the most reliable sports car and

[09:27] surprise surprise it is of course the

[09:29] Mazda MX5 as I said at the beginning

[09:32] though we're only considering cars under

[09:34] 10 years old which means the tail end of

[09:36] the third generation NC models and the

[09:38] fourth generation ND cars they scored an

[09:41] average of 81.5 out of 100 which isn't

[09:43] far off what cars in the top 10 are

[09:45] getting the average repair bill on those

[09:47] MX5 worked out to £

[09:49] 1,4 which is quite High and the most

[09:52] common problems related the car

[09:54] suspension however one MX5 had problems

[09:56] not only with its suspension but a drive

[09:58] shaft too and the the total repair bill

[10:00] came to

[10:02] £351 next up is large Saloon cars and

[10:05] Estates and the most reliable in that

[10:06] group is the Volvo v90 this car's

[10:08] average repair Bill according to

[10:10] warranty wise is £

[10:11] 1,120 and the most common problems

[10:13] relate to the electrical system however

[10:15] in one case a v90 developed a gearbox

[10:18] Vault that cost £

[10:20] 5,832 to fix as a result its overall

[10:23] score of 65.9 out of 100 was only okay

[10:26] finally though we come to the most

[10:28] reliable hot hatch and it is the Ford

[10:30] Fiesta ST I'm talking about the Sixth

[10:32] and Seventh Generation cars here which

[10:33] are both absolute crackers to drive and

[10:36] you'll more than likely get to enjoy

[10:37] them without interruption because they

[10:39] scored an impressive 71.5 out of 100 in

[10:42] the warrantywise reliability index if

[10:44] you're going to have issues with one of

[10:45] these cars the most likely area is the

[10:47] clutch and if you're getting a bill for

[10:49] any issue it'll set you back an average

[10:51] of

[10:53] 1,297 to fix but brace yourself for this

[10:56] one fiester SD had an engine issue so

[10:58] severe that it cost

[11:01] 9,457 61 to put right anyway now we come

[11:05] back to our reliability top 10 and I can

[11:08] reveal that the number one car is the

[11:10] Suzuki Alto which scored a hugely

[11:13] impressive 95.1 out of 100 warrantywise

[11:16] did have one case of a gearbox repair

[11:18] which cost £

[11:20] 1,584 to fix but on average the repair

[11:23] built on a Suzuki Alto came to £

[11:26] 687 and the Really striking thing is

[11:28] just how little the Alto goes wrong in

[11:30] fact warrantywise has so little data on

[11:32] Suzuki Alto problems that there isn't a

[11:34] most common problem the data just says

[11:37] miscellaneous and I think that says it

[11:39] all anyway I hope you enjoyed the video
