Massive Mage Nerf Revealed!
45sThe creator's exaggerated reaction to patch notes hooks viewers, especially gamers anticipating big changes.
▶ Play Clip"Title promises a reaction to patch notes, and delivers exactly that—a raw, unfiltered, and detailed breakdown."
The video is a live reaction to the latest patch notes for a World of Warcraft Classic season. The creator reads through the notes, highlighting key changes, with a particular focus on a controversial nerf to downranked spells that drastically impacts the mage class. The reaction captures the community's shock and debate over the change's implications for PvP and class identity.
The patch introduces a level cap increase to 30, new dungeons (RFC, Hall of Thanes, RFK, Nomurgan, Stockage), and new barbershops in Darnassus and Thunderbluff.
Druid bear form now generates 7% increased rage from crits, and all shapeshift forms are immune to disarm. Feral abilities like Tiger's Fury and King of the Jungle have been removed, replaced with new talents like Shifting Power.
Hunter's Sniper Shot now has a 45-yard range and increases range for the next three shots. Pet aggressive mode has been brought back.
Mage's Hot Streak has been renamed to Heating Up. Improved Scorch and Winter's Chill no longer roll a second time to check for resistance.
Paladin's Redoubt and Holy Shield block chances have been nerfed. Priest's Inner Focus no longer applies crit to periodic effects, and Shadow Weaving can no longer be applied by downranked spells.
Shaman's Ghost Wolf is now visible in lit areas, and Hellfire can now critically strike. Warlock's Soul Harvesting has been renamed to Soul Harvest and now grants 50-100 increased mana regen.
Warriors get 75% increased rage from crits, and Heroic Strike no longer causes offhand hit chance. The Stool build spec now provides up to 100% increased offhand weapon range.
Honor costs for PvP gear have increased by approximately 50%. The undercut for items has increased from $15,000 to $125,000.
Dungeon quests now reward 50% less extra experience beyond normal quest values, a nerf the creator feels might be too high.
A major change: any spell cast at a lower rank will receive less benefit from spell damage, spell healing, and proc chances. This is a significant nerf to downranking, a common practice for mages and healers.
The creator identifies the downranking nerf as the biggest conceivable mage nerf, bigger than previous ones, as it removes the ability to proc Frostbite, Fingers of Frost, and other effects with rank 1 spells.
The creator discusses the change with other players, including Ben Rookie, who agrees that the nerf is a huge deal and that mages are 'paying for the sins of Ice Lance.'
The creator argues that mages were strong but not the best in PvP, citing tournament results where they were often beaten by priests, locks, and druids.
The patch notes introduce a controversial downranking nerf that fundamentally changes the mage class, sparking widespread community backlash and debate about class identity and game design philosophy.

33:31Paying for the sins of Ice Lance
A memorable quote that encapsulates the community's feeling that the nerf is a heavy price for a previous buff.
29:33[00:00] Patch notes two minutes ago. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. As much as I want to play, I'm even more excited to read these.
[00:14] Okay. Improved range visibility, of course. Improved ray-traced shadow options that have been added in a future update. They have to fix it. Night. Watchman's torch has been intentionally lagged. The visual side of weapons and health and sheaths on the pack has been adjusted.
[00:28] players can now level up to 30 new dungeon experience dungeons available RFC Hall of Thames yeah RFK Nomurgan Stock Age yep okay there are new barbershops in Darnassus and Thunderblood and now barbers working at them
[00:41] okay camping the boosted rest debuff caused by this camp feature has a different icon to make it clearer wording on camping features have been adjusted to mutually exclusive instead of exclusive campfire is only going to do damage to a player below 5
[00:54] and may deal reduced damage to a player below 90 Oh, interesting. Oh, thanks, baby.
[01:08] Class is true with bear form. Entire bear form now generates 7% increased raise from any crit. Fix the buff-cuffing swipe to not scale with AP. It will not correctly gain. Tiger's theory removed.
[01:21] All shapeshift forms now are immune to disarm effects. Fairy Fire no longer resets when your Swing Timer was used. Feral. Primal Bite. Threat generated by this ability was doubled.
[01:34] King of the Jungle removed. Tiger's Fury removed. Connecting the Shredding Attacks and the 4th row new talent. Shifting Power. Cap form only. 16 second cooldown. Costs 55% of base mana.
[01:46] Converts mana to energy. AKA power shifting is back. Shifting Power costs the same amount of mana as cap form. connecting the shifting power on the fifth row is improved shifting power reducing the cool down. This is what they talked about in the podcast.
[01:59] Awesome. Awesome. Marksman, icon for improved sting. Change to be more vanilla. 31st talent sniper shot. Now to 45 yard range. Wow.
[02:11] Increases range to your next three shots. Oh my gosh, that's far. Icon for predator's edge. Change to be more vanilla. Deflection parry increased to 1, 2, 3, 5. Nerfed a bit.
[02:23] Pet. Aggressive mode has been brought back in 4 and can be found under the pet tab. Aggressive tab is back. Okay? Tab is back. Okay? Mages. All mage scrolls from comprehension have an additional balance pass and can no longer
[02:36] be cast while moving. Okay. Fire. Hot streak has been renamed to heating up since it is no longer dependent on having a streak. The number of charges of combustors from a 3 was 4. Oh. Oh. Oh.
[02:48] So nothing's changed. They just renamed it. Which is a better name, to be fair. That actually is a better name. Improved Scorch, Fire Vulnerability, will not roll a second time to see if it resists. Frost, Winter's Kill, Application is not, roll to see if it's resisted.
[03:02] Okay, yeah. Just the original. Just the original spell has to hit. That's it. That's it for Mage. Okay. Paladin, Prot, Redoubt, Chance to Block, change from 4A. Wait, Improved your Chance to Block? Oh, wait, no.
[03:14] Nerfed your Chance to Block. Holy Shield's Block Chance changed from 30. So, Holy Shield buff, readout in there. Rett. Shamping is a light. Intellect, damage ratio change. They don't want this to be a healing thing.
[03:26] That's good. DP. Canal crit. Fixed an issue with death. It's benefit or at least demise. Okay. Inner focus longer applies its crit to periodic effects. Good. Shadow weaving can no longer go to apply. Nice.
[03:38] Fixed an issue where exposed, which means you're missing at least all your debuffs. Or all your combo points. Good. Set up a now link. Add combo points to your current target. if they're the one that Dodgers is their spell from.
[03:51] Servants are up? Okay. I actually want to read these almost more than I want to play, to be honest. Just real quick, but I will get in the queue at least. Okay, there's the queue. I'll keep reading. Shaman, Ghost Bowl shall be visible while in lit areas.
[04:03] Fixed issue with disease cleansing totem. Fixed issue with totemically. Cobalt's not restoring mana. Drankel is now correctly interrupting his Warlock's beam, catching up with his spell. And he's used his pet model to replace the lower resolution model.
[04:15] Cool! Lower res! Yeah! Hellfire can now critically strike. Affliction, Soul Harvesting has been renamed to Soul Harvest.
[04:27] It can now correctly grant 50 to 100 increased mana regen. The Crested Mode is back to pets. Warriors get 75% increased rage from landing a crit. Random Thunder will not instantly tap enemies to the warrior.
[04:39] Cueing Hero Strike will no longer cause offhand hit chance. I actually like that. Spearing Strike no longer provides a two-handed weapon. Sick does require battle stance. Stool build spec no longer provides 20, 40, 60, 80, 100. Increase your offhand weapon range, Jen.
[04:51] But this is actually up to 100 now. Servers are up. No realms available. Cooldown manager. Racial abilities not supported. Good. Rogue is not supported. Good. Duplicate entries for each score rank. Any score to class no longer be present. Good.
[05:03] Gamepad support. The gameplay UI for the gamepad. Okay. Gamepad. Sure. Player versus player. Honor cost for PPC gear and upgrade tokens have been adjusted, with most items increasing by approximately 50% to better run to your acquisition targets.
[05:16] the undercut to increase from $15,000 to $125,000. Solid. Chantel and Org will now train Windshaper Skyborn. A number of recipes sent for PSN leatherworking and random drops are now available. Enchanting all crafted common and uncommon quality wands
[05:28] now sell a vendor for one copper. Wait, you can buy a wand at a vendor for one copper? Am I reading that right? Mining reduces the amount of poor copper nodes and starting zones. Skinning creatures only skin once before disappearing.
[05:40] Quest, Death Notes, Dungeons. Dungeon quests now reward 50% less extra experience Beyond normal quest values. Dungeon quest nerfs. 50% seems like a lot. I was thinking more like 10% less or 20% less.
[05:53] I actually think it was a little too high, but 50 might be too much. I'm curious. I read it wrong. It's 50% less extra experience beyond normal. So we'll see what the actual percentage is. I think it did need a nerf,
[06:05] but hopefully this isn't too much. You're unable to start escort quests if you get 25 or more. Result in issue with certain quest items being multi-drop. Result in issue with some quests that give an item unshareable. Result of the issue is quests that come from items being shareable.
[06:18] Increase the respawn rate across many different creatures and objects in Hillscrad, Wetlands, Dusk with Dozen Needles, Ashenvale, Darkshore, Deadmines, Now Swords, Quest Log, Druid. Fix an issue where players aren't receiving loot reliably during the quest.
[06:31] Higher shareable content of the quest. Power over poison. Dunmarrow, Shimmer Ridge, Trolls now respawn. Respawn more slowly. Quest has been added. Smooth boulders should be plentiful. Thanks for the sub, man.
[06:43] The quest, Blackrock, blockade has been updated. Runes have lowered or unknown. Quick quest log. Respawn raids. So, respawn raids, quest log fixes. Races. Eureka no longer benefits periodic effects at all. Shannon's spells do not count as periodics. Okay?
[06:56] Cannon blights cannot be used as caster's immune. Use your air phase! Woo! On the character sheet, when mousing over spell damage and spell healing, it is now explained that spell casts using spell rings, fastly blow your turn level, or leave less benefit from spell damage and spell healing,
[07:08] and reduce chance to activate your possibilities and talents. Examples, Frostbite and Omen. Another example is Reduction and Activation Chance. Using a Rank 1 Frostbolt at 60 will result in a 0% chance to get a... Using a Rank 1 Frostbolt at 60 will result in a 0% chance to get Frostbite?
[07:21] That is literally the entire class in PvP is Rank 1 Frostbolt. That cannot... I mean, that's the whole... that's the whole spec. So now you're making an ascension between getting a Slow Off or using a spell that can give you a Frostbolt.
[07:34] That's literally your whole spec. Oh my gosh. I'm going to link this to the Mage Council. Zico and Benerfi are going to freak out. Oh my god, that is really bad.
[07:47] Wow, they destroyed mages? I mean, wow. That is really bad. I mean, that is the biggest conceivable nerf. That is like your only, that's what you do.
[07:59] Wow, I can't even like, that's your whole thing. That's mage right there. You spam rank one crossbow, you don't even use the max rank one. So maybe it is bad design, but that is what they've done.
[08:11] Maybe you'll just use rank two now. Wow, that's the biggest nerf to mages you could have ever done, I think. That's way bigger than... Looks like they're actually up, guys, maybe. That's way bigger than Kona Cult nerf and bigger than the Blizzard nerf.
[08:25] Man, mages are very nerfed. Character creation will display matching icons with standard definitions. Toggled! Okay, I know people are going to be like, who cares? That is awesome! That is awesome!
[08:37] I love it I know people are going to say who cares but like that's so good man it a small little thing that like it matters man that sick stable frame art has been updated comma points on the target and personal array has updated art fixed loot rolls in chat
[08:55] not displaying a full player's name and the options to not correctly display items or objects I was hoping there was more on the user interface but I have to say W on the character creation icon world adjustments have been made to the world instances part of the initial
[09:07] only transferred when creating known issues um changing spell together is not precast spell effects. Your hands on the door makes a crack sound when you fire a bolt. Okay, that's a known issue. I've actually noticed that one. Enemies can parry and block
[09:20] from behind. I'm going to mute that real quick. Enemies can parry and block from behind if the player is close to them. Until this is fixed, you can be avoided by not being too close. The total inflation of WoW is larger than intended. We're working on reducing it. Control limited patches do not affect. Eureka does not
[09:34] affect. Everything can be fixed. Dwarf players do not have updated splash sounds. Multiple debuffs that verify don't cause threat. Oh, that's a bug. Okay.
[09:53] Okay. Wow. This is the biggest mage nerf two days. And it's not even close. For PvP, let me be clear. This is the biggest mage nerf they could have possibly conceivably done.
[10:08] Read the last one. Anduin, Rin, and many other children unintentionally have hats. We're in the process of removing them, but they keep giggling and running away, so this is going to take a while. Oh, okay. I did skip that one. That's funny. Nice. Are you guys all stuck on this, too?
[10:21] You spam rank 1 frostbolt for flows still anyway and fish with lance? You can't fish with lance. You guys are all stuck here. Do you think some of the mage nerfs should be overcompensated for the boosting of R&T, or is it too soon to say? Maybe too soon to say, but yeah, mages are like straight up nerfed.
[10:37] That is crazy. We'll see. We'll see how it goes. Rank 1 Frostbolt is, like, your whole build, though. And that is, like, what you do. If anyone's ever PvP'd a Frostmage, Rank 1 Frostbolt is your number one ability.
[10:50] That's how you play that thing. So I'm just trying to think. They want to move away from that style. Maybe it's a good thing. You know, I just need to see what we got instead.
[11:02] Maybe it'll feel better to have it gone. I need to play around with it. Like, maybe our damage is high enough to where you don't need to rely on rank 1 abilities anymore. Maybe you can actually play the game normally. Maybe you can use your top rank spell to own.
[11:14] I don't know. I don't want to, like, knee-jerk reaction this too quick without playing it, but it sounds awful. It sounds really bad. Sounds really bad. Jay Monty, thanks for Prime.
[11:26] Archer, thanks for 2-1. Wow. It's weird they didn't mention it on the podcast today. I mean, they didn't mention all the changes on the podcast. The podcast was a little different than, like, Ash Notes. Mages seems to be the most unfinished class yet.
[11:39] They just nerfed, nerfed, nerfed, but doesn't have a vision on where to go with it. That's the big problem with one month left. I think that's, like, pretty true. Like, Mages so far are just really nerfed, nerfed, nerfed, nerfed, and, like, in a sense, they deserve it, right?
[11:53] Because there were things that needed to be nerfed, but it seems like we're kind of waiting to see what do we get in return kind of a thing, you know? But we'll see. We'll see. We'll see.
[12:05] like I said, it's hard to think about. Maybe it's a good change if now you can actually use top-ranked spells. Now you have Ice Lance. Maybe they're going to give Brain Freeze,
[12:17] and maybe you're going to use... Maybe it's going to be less about rank 1 Frostbolt spamming and more about, like, actually playing with your top-ranked spells. Maybe it's fine. I just... I can't see a world where... You know, I'm trying to be open-minded here.
[12:30] I linked it to Venruki. He goes, WTF? question mark. I think any PvP mage that reads that is going to have the same reaction as me. Like, any PvP mage is just going to
[12:43] be like, what? That's your main button. If you're spamming nothing but rank one spells at max level, that's a fundamental design flaw. So that's a good point. What do we get instead then? Because most of the strength
[12:56] came from this. So you might say, well, that's bad design. And I actually kind of agree. It kind of is bad design, but if all your strengths came from it and you fundamentally don't want it to play that way anymore,
[13:09] then I think it needs to have strengths somewhere else. I don't know. We'll see. We'll see. I mean, that is, like I said, the biggest conceivable nerf. We'll see. Maybe it'll add something else that we don't know yet
[13:21] to where it, like, all makes sense. You know what I mean? I think it's still good to try to not overreact, and, like, maybe it'll be good. Maybe it'll be good. it's tough to wrap my head around like I'm trying like
[13:33] with the Blizzard nerf it's like okay I get it with the Kona Cold nerf it's like ooh that's rough and now with the Raikkon Prospult nerf it's like oh man I'm trying to stay
[13:45] positive here but we're getting nerfed all over the place I rock you thanks for priming just re-roll bro The age of mage.
[14:00] We'll see. We'll see. It finally popped? Guys, any second now. Pika on Frostbolt, rank one. Let me guess, he's going to love it. Hey, gosh. I'm going to link this to the mage council. Zico and Beneruza.
[14:12] Oh, my God. Okay, so these guys are idiots. He's already talking to the fucking me. No, no, no, no, no. Okay, this has to be a good change, then. If this is how you do this to the mage council in five seconds,
[14:24] this is great for the game. this has to be great for the game. Peekaboo doesn't even know what it is. He's saying this has to be good for the game. He probably doesn't even know what spell ranks are.
[14:38] Guy plays a rogue, coming straight in from retail. He probably doesn't even know he could use a rank one frostbolt. He's like, oh wait, what's that? What's that mean? He doesn't even know what we're talking about. Okay, we already know the PvP is cheese
[14:50] and mages are disgusting. This has got to be a good change here. It has to be. You're going to freak out. That cough Pika has, I have that same cough. He gave it to me at BlizzCon just from, like, proximity.
[15:02] We were on the same couch for a while. Long story. I have this cough now. It's been rough. Regardless, clearly I have no idea what he's talking about. Between getting a slow off quickly or using a spell that can potentially get a frostbite activation instead of getting both.
[15:17] Yeah! Suck it, mages! Summit is the hater. Summit, you're the hater. You're the guy. You're the guy. You're the guy, Summit.
[15:29] Oh, my gosh. You're the guy. Summit is literally the guy saying suck it. Oh, my gosh. Unbelievable. You're fucking rank one fucking nut sack, Bolt.
[15:43] Between getting a smoke. I like how everyone's linking clips of me reacting to this and everyone else is laughing at me. Is that what's going on here? This is ridiculous. I, um, yeah, I, like I said, I'm trying to stay optimistic and positive.
[16:00] I kind of agree that the philosophy of spamming a rank one button sucks. So I, in a sense, I kind of get them removing it. At the same time, it was where most of Mage's strengths came from.
[16:13] So then you would need something in return on a max rank spell to make it feel like, okay, we're not just screwed now. So in a sense, I get it. But it's like, use rank two? Guys, you have to reread it if you're staying youth rank 2.
[16:26] Gotta reread the nerf. I'm in, I'm in. Guys, do I remod or do I just stay right here? I think I stay right here, right? Stay? Okay. No, I don't think you're going to get it. Zico just spammed ha ha ha in all caps.
[16:41] Benrookie said WTF question mark. Zico said ha ha ha all caps. Oh my gosh. Yeah, I mean, that's a rough one. That's a rough one. It's mostly a PvP nerf, but keep in mind,
[16:53] Frostbite is a PvP talent and it's all... Frostbite you won't really use in raids anyway, right? You can use it with leveling. But, like, Frost a lot of the times, especially deep Frost with Ice Barrier, is a PvP spec.
[17:07] So, like, if you're PvE you'll probably play Arcane or Fire, or something like Frostfire variant or something like that, or Arcane Fire maybe. So, yeah, it's like the Frost spec, which is generally PvP focused, the biggest thing that you use that nerfs, but
[17:21] We're trying to stay positive over here and not get too upset. So, you know, that's a lot of XP. Wow wow We staying incredibly positive over here Trying to stay positive We trying to stay very positive here guys We don want to judge a book by its cover okay
[17:43] Maybe it's good. We just can't see it yet. In a duel? No, maybe we'll still be warriors in a duel. But I think in terms of, like, your chances against Warlock or Priest or Hunter or Shaman,
[17:56] your chances against, like, everything now go to close. They go a lot lower. I go a lot lower. You said don't lose an inch, bro. It's tough. It's tough. Very tough, guys.
[18:08] Very tough. Very tough. Where do I even want to level, bro? I can't even think. I can't even think clearly right now, guys. Where do I want to level? Go to Red Ridge, I guess. Suskwood. Flatlands.
[18:20] I'll do. Zico is crashing out to me in the DMs, too. Oh, my gosh. Oh, man. The mage is out there to stay strong.
[18:33] You know, we'll get through this together. I think we need like a mage hotline where we can all just... Oh, we got DC'd. We need like a mage hotline where we can all just be like, yeah, I remember where I was when I read the mage nerfs.
[18:46] It affected all of us in really, really deep ways. It's been rough. We're going to get through this together. You know what? We'll count our wins before we see them. No SD character models sent to the sky.
[18:58] Also, look, we got our old portraits back. That's a win. We got our old portraits back over here. That's a win. I will take it. I will take that win. I'll take that win. We got to count our W's, guys.
[19:10] We got to count our W's these days. You know, I thought we could maybe call an emergency mage council meeting and all cope together. This has been rough.
[19:23] Yeah. I haven't read all the changes yet. Somebody just linked me that one change. And, yeah. sketchy real sketchy I'm trying to hang in there and stay as positive as I possibly can
[19:35] and like maybe think you know if they take this away then maybe there's something else they're giving us like brain freeze I mean deep freeze something I don't know some ice block across
[19:47] all the major specs like something to like balance it I don't know I mean I'm I'm coping over here man I'm having I'm having a tough time yeah I don't know about that I um yeah
[19:59] that's a tough one for sure that's a tough one for sure what is the change you can't proc frostbite anymore on rank 1 balls it's not just frostbite it's any procs though
[20:11] fingers are frost won't proc wait what it's oh you don't even know what that is bro rank 1 arcane explosion won't give you clear casting oh
[20:23] rank 1 frostbite won't give you frostbite or fingers or like any proc I don't even think Winner's chill, probably. Oh, okay. Yeah, it's bad. It's worse than you might think.
[20:35] And then at level 60, right? And then rank two, I think my chat did some math. They think it'll be 1.5% prog chance at rank two.
[20:48] Oh, 1.5% prog chance. That's like dropping a thunder story. Yeah. Yeah, I'm going wrong. It's like dropping warglaives. So, yeah. Okay. Yeah, I guess.
[21:00] If you get two Frost Spires, that could be hard. If you get two Frost Spires in a duel, it's like getting a Thunder Fury in one run.
[21:14] Like, yeah, I mean, you did that right. So, I can potentially do that again in a duel and win. Oh, my God. So, what is the point of casting Rank 1 Frost Bolt then?
[21:26] Is this to apply a 40% slow, the worst slow in the game? Yeah, I don't know if we're going to be casting it much, man. I think Kona Cold might be our better bet now. Yep. But Rank 1 Kona Cold won't have a chance to apply Frostbite either.
[21:39] Wait, what? Wait, what? It's not just Frostbolt, Zico. It's every Rank 1 spell in the game isn't going to apply your spell buffs anymore. Huh. So your Blizzard, like, you can't push for Crocodile.
[21:53] Lizard rank one won't proc it either I don't think. It's everything that makes the mage class the mage class is now not there. So we made mage a proc farm simulator
[22:06] with Myth of Barrage and get them crossbite and then we removed the way to get procs before we did. I'm struggling man. I'm struggling to understand it but maybe there's something
[22:18] we don't know. Yeah. Yeah I mean you could you could just play fire with no ice block I guess. Might be the move? I, I, I mean, fire, you could, if you get three crits as fire,
[22:30] you could hard cast a pyro quicker. Yeah, yeah, yeah. If you hard cast three spells and they crit in a row, you could hard cast a pyro after that. Oh, my brain. It would be some big damage.
[22:42] Um, yeah, I mean, you know what? I tested Arcane, actually, and Arcane Glass actually hits for 86 damage currently at level 20. So you could potentially cast three Arcane Blasts into an evil, into another three Arcane Blasts.
[23:01] I might need to test that. Seems good. So, yeah. Why did you do this change?
[23:13] So, on a more real note, I think the idea is like, this affects healers as well. So healers can't just spam rank one flashlight anymore. They're not going to be able to...
[23:25] They won't get a good spell coefficient. Their healers won't be spanning rank one anymore. So I think healers are all pretty upset too. So you'll have to use your top-ranked heal. So I think the idea is they want to promote people using their top-rank ability
[23:38] for most of the time. They want to make the game have less buttons and less depth. I don't know. I think they want top-rank abilities being used and not spanning rank one, so that's the change.
[23:50] That's what I'm trying to wrap my head around. Yeah. that's the quote I'm on right now so I mean yeah it's good to connect for a second and try to see what you're thinking because I'm thinking about what you're thinking I'm thinking
[24:02] Hunter or Rex I played a warrior and I fell in love so I'm thinking warrior could be very fun very fun
[24:14] samurai coming back yeah yeah yeah warrior could be juicy we'll see we'll see what happens alright well and you're gonna have
[24:26] less mages to fight too so that's and if we fight them I don't know if it'll be that bad either alright oh man alright man hang in there
[24:38] hang in there we'll get through this together yep yep likewise bro stay strong man stay strong out there back at ya alright guys if Anaruki didn't answer I tried to bring the mage
[24:50] council back together. Van Rook, he's probably busy. Thought we did, like, an emergency mage council meeting so we could all kind of console each other through this very difficult time. Guys, is anyone else online? Or is this what you guys are all looking at, too?
[25:03] You guys are stuck on the loading screen as well. Yeah, I mean, it's the whole, like, I don't, like, mage players know, okay, mage players know what we're talking about. If you haven't played a mage, you use rank one Kona Cold more than your max
[25:19] rank one. You use rank 1 frostbolt more than your max rank 1. You use rank 1 blizzard more than your max rank 1. In fact, the max rank ones you should drag off your... you know, you still want them, but most of the time it's rank 1.
[25:31] You rank 1 on a lot of your spells. Probably more than any other class. Now, you could argue that's just terrible game design, and you're probably... maybe you're right. But it's... all I'm arguing is that it is a big deal.
[25:43] It's a very big deal. And the healers... healers kind of know what I'm talking about. Healers, like Aladin's for downranking heals. If it's such a big deal, they'll give you compensation. I guess that's my main point. It's such a big deal for a mage
[25:56] that there'll probably need to be some compensation, which I'm excited to see. Where and when? I don't know, bro. All the mage players in the chat are coping, man.
[26:09] All you guys stay strong, guys. We will get through this, guys. We're going to get through it together. We're going to get through it together, guys. Unless we all re-roll, then. I know. Classic plus. Classic wow.
[26:21] Classic wow Forever The Mace UI was changed Wait really was it Mace UI changed What do you mean by that I trying to open my mail for 20 minutes Yeah same as happening to me This is a mage safe space You can cry here.
[26:34] Do I even have spell ranks if we're going to do this? That is actually a fair question. I mean, I guess they'll still be useful. But they'll be way less useful. Way less useful. Should I reload or stay right here?
[26:46] I think I stay right here, right? Dude, the servers have been down all day. I don't know. everyone's saying re-log alright I'll slow her out middle-aged man how many of you guys have faith that
[26:58] they'll revert this change I don't know sounds like they once again I asked this a second ago healers out there how devastated are you just quick vibe
[27:11] check are you are healers kind of relieved in a sense that you don't have to down rank or are you guys like are you guys like the socks or are you guys like whatever It's definitely not as bad for a healer, but it's definitely a big, kind of a big deal.
[27:23] Maybe it's a good thing if you're a healer in the sense that you don't have to think about rank one, rank three. For healers, I could see it almost being relieving in a sense, you know? But if you really enjoy the down rank, I could see it being...
[27:36] As a mage, it's not like whether you enjoy it or not. It's like the way you're forced to play, right? Mage has got a pretty large change. Hello? Hey, Ben Rookie, how you doing, man? You busy?
[27:49] I don't know. In the middle of nowhere, but what's up? Oh, are you on a hike or something? I am, yeah. Oh, sick. That sounds great. Are you live right now? Yeah, I'm streaming. I'm streaming. Oh, no.
[28:01] I just read the changes, and I just coped with Zico for a second, and I kind of just needed to talk to someone to knew how I was feeling, because my whole chat being someone like I'm coping,
[28:13] and they're saying like maybe should be nerfed and all this and that. I just wanted to get someone else that speaks my language a little bit here. So can you fill me in on all the changes? Because I've been away. I've just been getting panic messages, but I think I know the gist of them.
[28:25] I mean, there's a lot of changes, but the big one that kind of slipped in there on one of the death notes is any spell that's downranked is going to get less benefit from spell damage,
[28:38] spell healing, and proc chance of any ability. So, for example, rank one Flash of Light for a Pally won't really be getting much of your healing benefit. Rank one Frostbolt on a Mage won't be able to proc Frostbite.
[28:52] It won't be able to proc Fingers of Frost. It won't be able to proc Winter's Chill. Rank one Barrage too. Yeah, rank one... It won't be no Missile Barrage too. Right. Missile Barrage won't be able to proc, like, rank one Arcane Explosion.
[29:06] Rank one Arcane Explosion can't proc Clearcasting. Rankin Blizzard can't frostbite. So the whole spec is kind of different.
[29:18] Yeah. So, I mean, I'm sure you listened to the Devon interview earlier today, and they were talking about, you know, every time they give, they have to take. And I feel like we're paying for the sins of Iceland right now.
[29:33] Okay. That's a good thing. I feel like they gave us Ice Lair for instant damage, and now they're kind of completely wrecked the playstyle of mage that at least I love in PvP,
[29:45] which is like snaring and debuffing and playing efficient and fishing for procs. I think it's going to be really rough. It's going to be really, really rough, and I'm super bummed about it. Yeah, I think they're right, though.
[29:59] I think that's a pretty fair take. it's almost enough to be like I mean dare I say this would we rather have this back and then just give back Ice Lance? I actually would. I think it's a more fun place off.
[30:13] Yeah I kind of think the same. Ice Lance isn't worth this I don't think. Because this is such a big deal that Ice Lance is like well Ice Lance is cool but it's one button you just spam it like this kind of changes the whole thing.
[30:25] I can already see the chat too just mazes crying once again but they actually love your take I think that's what it feels like to me
[30:37] it just feels like the playstyle of Mage would have been just spamming rank 1 bolts looking for missile barrage trough looking for finger trough looking for trough by trough which is kind of weird
[30:50] but I feel like I would rather do that than have fingers of trough and ice lance personally yeah okay well I don't want I don't want to take too much of your hike time away,
[31:02] but I would love to talk more about it. No, it actually is good to hear your perspective, though, because I think you're totally right. Like, this is a... I mean, this is probably, I think, one of the biggest possible conceivable mage nerfs, right?
[31:16] Well, it nerfs the AoE, too. Like, all my friends who are into AoE are just, like, panicking and messaging me. You know, you can't... They nerf AoE. Clearcast with Rank 1 Blizzard and Cone and... Right. It's Clearcast.
[31:28] Yeah, it nerfs AoE. and they're, I mean, whew, all right, well, I'll take it along and try to hold on. Yeah, we'll play Pompiro or something, I guess. I don't know. I was talking to Zico.
[31:40] He was saying he might play, like, Hunter or Rett instead. It sounds like they're both for Warlocks, too, so we should maybe hop on that one. Oh, man, we'll see.
[31:53] All right, man. Enjoy your night. We'll see you in the next one. Yeah, later, bro. Peace. Ben Rookie, ladies and gentlemen. I think he had a good take, actually. That's actually a good take. You're paying for the sins of Ice Lance.
[32:05] I think I also agree with his take. Is Ice Lance worth it? Is Ice Lance worth losing this? Honestly, probably not. Ice Lance is so good, but honestly, probably not.
[32:18] This is more important than Ice Lance, which is crazy to say, because Ice Lance is that good. So I wonder if they need to almost get rid of Ice Lance to bring this back. Would that be worth it? I think it would be. Honestly, I think it would be. Straight up.
[32:30] That's crazy to say. That's crazy to say. I think this is more important than Ice Lance. That's nuts. Downranking is a part of the game? Yeah, one of the questions that someone in the chat asked is,
[32:42] why does downranking exist if they are going to make it to where downranking your heal isn't great or downranking your abilities isn't great?
[32:54] Why is it in the game then? which I think is a fair question. Maybe there is still use cases for it. So someone said mages were too good in Classic compared to other classes.
[33:06] I'm trying to wrap my head around this perspective because mages were obviously very good, right? No one's debating that. We're talking PvP here, right? This is a PvP mainly change.
[33:18] In all of the Battleground tournaments I watched in Classic WoW, in 10v10 tournaments, they would bring exactly one mage to 10v10s. In all of the dueling tournaments I watched,
[33:31] mages usually got dumpstered by priests, locks, and druids. We never really saw mage winners in tournaments, and we never really saw mages overtake battlegrounds. So when people say mages were so over-tuned,
[33:44] clearly they were very strong, but it's not like they were the best so much so that every... Here, let me draw it out. let me draw that like it's not like in terms of power mages were here and then like you know
[33:58] locks and uh druids and warriors were all like here and like that's not the case right they were they were certainly very strong but there were other classes that were up there with them right
[34:10] objectively so i'm a little confused by by that take i don't know if i have faith but i think you bring up a good point. The less damage and healing coefficients does kind of make sense.
[34:22] Proc chances on slows doesn't make as much sense. It's actually less intuitive. Your lower spell doing less damage is intuitive, but your lower spell not doing
[34:34] what it reads is not intuitive. So I actually think that's fair, although I don't know if I have faith like you. I don't know. My faith is running quite low right now. It fundamentally changes mages. yeah
[34:46] I think once again if we're going to be optimistic about this fundamentally change his nature and maybe that's a good thing maybe this is a good thing we just can't see it yet because we're waiting
[34:58] for the thing that will like kind of make this all come together maybe there's something in the next build that we don't know yet we watched a dev interview today and they said like oh guys we're already like three steps past you because we're working on the next build and the next build and the next build maybe we just haven't
[35:10] seen it all come together yet maybe we're not seeing all of it right so you
