AI Summary

The video addresses a common question for electric truck owners: how long do the tires last? After one blew out at 43,000 miles, the owner upgrades all four tires to Nitto Terra Grappler G3s, a more aggressive and premium option. The video walks through the entire installation process, from removing old tires to balancing and torquing the new ones.

[00:00]
Stock Tire Lifespan

A stock tire on the Ford Lightning blew out after 43,000 miles of use, including off-roading. The owner expected less, so this was a positive surprise.

[00:12]
Upgrade to Nitto G3s

Nitto provided the Terra Grappler G3s for free. They are more aggressive than stock, better for off-roading, but potentially louder.

[00:42]
Tire Removal and Mounting

The installation process uses a pneumatic air gun to remove lug nuts, a tire machine with a bead breaker to separate the tire from the rim, and air to snap the new tire onto the bead.

[01:09]
Balancing for Smooth Ride

The balancing machine spins the tire to detect imbalances, then weights are added to ensure smooth rolling. Unbalanced tires can cause steering wheel jiggle at highway speeds.

[01:25]
Final Installation and Next Steps

Lug nuts are tightened in a star pattern and torqued to spec. The new Nitto G3s are installed on the Ford Lightning, and the owner will track their longevity.

The stock tires on the Ford Lightning lasted 43,000 miles before failing, and the upgrade to Nitto Terra Grappler G3s promises better off-road performance with potentially longer life. Proper installation—balancing and torque—is key to smooth, safe driving.

[00:00] One of the questions I get the most often with electric trucks is how long do the tires last? Well, we just had one finally blow up on us while we were off-roading and it lasted 43,000 miles,

[00:12] which is more than I thought. But today it's time to replace all four tires with brand new Nitto Grappler G3s, a much more premium option that should last even longer. Nitto saw our videos here at the wheelchair factory and like what we're doing so much that they sent over the

[00:26] Terra Grappler G3s for free so we can install them on our trucks. This one is way more aggressive than the stock tires, which should be better for off-roading, but they might be a little bit louder. I don't know. They'll look freaking sweet though. And today we're going to see how that happens.

[00:42] Installing the tires is actually pretty easy if you have the right tools. First, we use the pneumatic air gun to pull the lug nuts off of the tire. Then we'll take it over to the tire machine. As we let the air out, the bead breaker will snap the tire off of the bead on the rim, which lets us remove

[00:57] it so we can install the new ones. Once the new tire is set into place, we'll add some air, which snaps it right back onto the bead in three, two, one. Then it has to go over to the balancer. The

[01:09] balancing machine will spin the tire around and feel where the tire might be imbalanced. Then we can add weights in certain places to make sure it rolls smoothly. If you've ever had your steering wheel jiggle at 50 miles an hour it might be because your tires are not balanced correctly.

[01:25] Then we throw it back onto the truck making sure to tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern. Then we can torque them to the proper spec. The Nitto Terra Grappler G3s are now officially installed on the Ford Lightning. I will keep you updated on how long they last. Hit that subscribe

[01:39] button and if you need a pair of the Nittos for yourself I'll leave a link in the description.
