Temu's Dangerous Adapter: Watch Movies While Driving?
45sThe shocking premise of a product that lets you watch TV while driving sparks immediate controversy and curiosity.
▶ Play Clip"The title promises a test of a dangerous Temu product, and the video delivers exactly that, with humor and clear demonstration, though some segments are padded with banter."
The video tests a Temu-advertised device that claims to let drivers watch streaming services on their car's center console. The hosts purchase two versions, find the first non-functional, and successfully test the second, which mirrors their phone's screen and consumes significant data. Despite the device working as advertised, the creators highlight the severe safety risks and ethical concerns of promoting such a product.
The video begins with a sarcastic commentary on a Temu ad promoting a device for watching movies and TV shows on a car's center console while driving, highlighting the dangerous nature of the product.
The hosts purchase two versions of the device from Temu. The first one is a non-functional fidget-spinner-like gadget that only mirrors the phone screen without additional features, deemed worthless.
The second device, matching the exact model in the ad, works as advertised. It connects via USB and mirrors the phone's screen, allowing streaming apps to be displayed on the car console.
The device requires Bluetooth and USB connection. It initially shows a CarPlay interface, but after connecting via Bluetooth, it successfully mirrors the phone's screen, including video and audio.
The device uses significant mobile data (about 3 GB per hour) and allows full control of the phone, including swiping and accessing apps like TikTok and YouTube. It also has a file folder, raising privacy concerns about data being uploaded.
The hosts acknowledge the device increases the risk of fatal car accidents and is likely illegal. They express concern that a billion-dollar company like Temu promotes such a dangerous product.
The device does work as advertised, but the hosts wish it didn't, emphasizing the danger. They suggest it should be illegal and taken down immediately.
The Temu-advertised car streaming device works as promised, but its promotion is highly irresponsible due to the severe safety risks of distracted driving. The video serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of such products and the ethics of their marketing.
Device Works as Advertised
Contrary to expectations, the second Temu product functions correctly, highlighting the unpredictability of such purchases.
02:00High Data Usage
The device consumes about 3 GB per hour, a significant cost for users, and raises questions about data efficiency.
06:40Safety Risks Emphasized
The hosts explicitly warn that the device increases the risk of fatal accidents, underscoring the dangers of distracted driving.
07:52Ethical Concerns with Temu
The video criticizes Temu for promoting a dangerous product, highlighting corporate responsibility issues.
12:25[00:00] I know what you were thinking. The roads are too safe right now. And don't worry. Teemu is going to solve that problem. You see, Dhar Mann fam,
[00:12] Matt got served a really cool Teemu ad that was promoting a product that allows you to watch movies and TV shows on your center console while driving. So gone are the days of having to hold your phone
[00:26] in front of your face while on the road or in your lap Before you set your phone here, or here, or even here to watch a show in the car while you're driving, just take one of these adapters and plug it into your car's UBS port. You'll then get Netflix, YouTube, and you could also stream near your phone.
[00:40] Which means you can watch any streaming app you have on your phone screen onto the car's screen without needing a Wi-Fi or hotspot connection, only your phone's data. And everyone wants to know, does it actually work in the car while you're driving? And yes, it does, plus you can hear the sound.
[00:53] So if you did want to get one of these for your car, I'll leave the adapter right down here. It's about time. Finally. You have streamers out there keeping it interesting on the roads, gambling with your life for their content,
[01:05] and now we can have some beautiful Teemu products to keep everyone distracted behind the wheel. Now, as with everything on Teemu, you have to go in there with the assumption that it doesn't work, it's not real, it's fraudulent, it's a scam.
[01:17] So, I wanted to put this to the test, so Matt and I purchased one. Well, actually purchased two, because on Teemu they have like fucking 20 mutations of this exact same product. I imagine it's just an Alibaba drop ship thing with multiple different packaging for it
[01:31] because that's what we found. The first one we got literally didn't work. Like, it didn't work at all. It was like a little button, almost like a fidget spinner looking thing that you press and then it displayed your phone screen on your car console but could do nothing else.
[01:47] So it was just CarPlay on top of CarPlay. Completely fucking worthless. So then we found this exact model in the Timu ad here, and we got that. And we put it to the test, and would you believe it,
[02:00] one of the few things on Timu that actually works as advertised is the one that's going to put the most people's lives in danger. It's almost poetic, actually. So bear witness to our second rodeo here. The first time we tried one of these products, we used Drew's car,
[02:13] because it has a big center console there. Like I said, it didn't work at all, though. It probably was enough to fucking vaporize some of the circuitry there or something, or start stealing his data. Just hosting that shit right from the dashboard there.
[02:26] This time around, we're using Matt's truck. Hey, Ibox, this is the V2. Our last one didn't work, but at least we voided Drew's warranty. So this is the one that now we can watch SpongeBob while driving.
[02:40] Yeah, this is the one we looked at, and it has an ad saying you can plug it in and watch SpongeBob while driving. We purchased the exact one, although on the box, which it doesn't say online, and it says for Android systems.
[02:53] It does say that. It also says me long. I don't think it's true. It's so true. More like me very long. Oh, me too.
[03:05] Okay, so this looks like a real device. This is a real device where on one side you've got USB-C, you've got mini HDMI and normal USB, and then you've got, oh, they give you all but the HDMI cord
[03:21] Interesting. Oh, I'm sorry. Are we plugging Teamutech into my phone? Is that what we're doing here? You guys know that that's not used. To be fair, we're plugging it into my car. Oh, in your car? That's way safer! Um... Okay, ignite vehicle to a powered state.
[03:33] Ignite it? Yeah. Ignite it. Yeah, that should ignite it. Connect box to vehicle data interface USB or TPEC. Alright, I'm gonna do USB. Yeah. What the fuck is TPEC? Uh...
[03:45] You don't know what TPEC is? No, that's... The... TPEC is... These nuts. Alright, what's that? Oh, that's a cool looking device. It is, and like, feel it. It's much heftier. Oh yeah, the guy...
[03:57] Like, it's got some stuff in it. There's at least material inside of it. It looks cool. Oh, okay. Autobots. Alright, I'm gonna connect it. Oh, it...
[04:09] Oh, here we go. This would be amazing, because my phone... This is not what I want. Bluetooth is not on yet. I don't think this is a fun. Oh. This has some rebuff.
[04:21] Well you plugged it in. It's going from the... I think the resolution, that's impressive. That is impressive. Okay Oh It gone Resolution It lighting back up The box inside went I got it this time It doing exactly what step 3 says it does Alright
[04:35] Is there a part that actually connects my phone or is it just... Oh, there's actually one, there is instructions for IOS, so... Alright. You can try IOS. No, I'm happy to. It's just funny because it seems like it's doing something without me. It does feel a little...
[04:47] Oh, that's better, I think. I think it technically is better. Um, I think it's better. I think that technically is better. Ryan, if your phone's already out.
[04:59] Yeah, I'm playing RootKid back there. No one gave me any other instructions. So, what is it? Turn on Bluetooth. Okay, okay, hold on. Bluetooth activating. I'm going to see if Bluetooth is on as well.
[05:12] I see an available device. Autobox CF20? Yes, that's the one. I think it was operating on its own. Some of these apps are operating. I think he might just be playing through CarPlay. I think this is not mirroring him yet.
[05:24] No, he is definitely connected to this. Well, it also does say connecting. So his sound is playing through this, but not his video.
[05:36] And like, I could just connect this to our internet and play it. It says you've used data. I'm watching the numbers. I'm gonna try it. This was zero, now it's one. Oh, yes, using data. You're actively using data.
[05:48] So it's... Well, they're stealing something. We're not. The people on the other end of the... Yeah, yeah, yeah. The number is going up. Look, this was zero a minute ago. The number is going up. Oh, my God. It's using a lot of data. It's using data. It's doing something.
[06:00] They are absolutely... It's just this one lining up my car. Oh, no, it's not good. No, it's not good. It's doing something. It's worth its fucking nine megs, boys. What are we doing? What's your problem? Maybe we don't want to watch YouTube. 11 megs. Let's watch TikTok.
[06:12] Let's watch TikTok. Boys, T-Mobile is going to start going. All right, so long again. Go watch TikTok. Dude, it's down to 30 to the half. It is actually cruising through data right now. Why can't... 15 and a half? Am I being reimbursed?
[06:28] 17? Also, what is the file folder for? It's downloading everything 20 by the way. It's downloading everything I've ever owned and it's uploading it to China. 22, creating a profile about me.
[06:40] Let's click shorts and see if it... Oh! 23. Oh wait, it actually did work. Whoa! Drive, drive, drive! Yes, go ahead, go ahead. Quick, quick, quick. 29. Oh.
[06:52] Oh. Can I swipe? Oh my god. What are you wearing? No. No! Our distracted driving has been elevated. Oh yeah, baby. This is horrible. This is awesome. It's 39 nights, by the way. This is the Charlie Entertainment System.
[07:04] This is actually so funny. I can swipe. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god.
[07:16] Oh my god. Oh, my car. I think, oh, somebody could use Cinder on this. Oh, this is big for a... Wow. All right, drivers, the road just got a little more interesting.
[07:28] Oh, this is an auto Android device, too? Somebody could download RuneScape on this and play on that screen. That's true, you actually could. I like that. I'm dead, people.
[07:40] Oh, my God. Cat girl! Wow, it actually works. Think of how many audio picks you can pick up just from playing this while you're driving all the time. All right, Charlie, is this device worth it?
[07:52] Absolutely. If you're looking to really increase your odds of a fatal car accident, yes. Why is it freaking out? I don't know. The video just gave out on us.
[08:05] Brian might have ran out of data. Yeah. What's that? What's that? 100 million. How long was that? Was it two minutes? Yeah. All right. So you would use 3 gigs an hour at that rate, rough math?
[08:19] 3 gigs an hour. Hmm. I would. You know? That's great. I need it to stop. I could just kill my hotbox. I don't know, because I wanted to try Netflix.
[08:32] I guess I'll log in. Oh, Netflix, that's a good idea. Yeah, can you get Crunchyroll on this thing? Yeah. I think it works wonderful. He's so driving. I imagine it's... I like that sick dude.
[08:44] How is this... I mean I know it's not legal, but... What do you think, a cop pulled you over and you were actively watching One Piece on your center console? No but look that why it swallow sized because you eat this and then you eat this So what do they do they look for the app Yeah The app You can just watch Netflix Do you think you could actually download your chip
[09:05] Yeah. Do you think you can, like, download Twitch? You would probably, probably. You'd probably have to connect to your computer, if I had to guess. There's probably not, like, an app store. What's your video? Those might be Ryan's private videos. Those are probably Ryan's private videos, yeah.
[09:19] Woo-hoo! Dude, that looks good. Can we get that? Yeah. Take me for a spin. Don't you dare look at the road! Okay. Oh, you're talking about the driver, yeah. This is more important.
[09:32] That's so cool. Hey, I hope there's a shopping link in the description. So I can buy it. Hey, can you buy this? Oh my god, you can buy it. Oh! Oh yeah!
[09:44] Wait, shopping, watching, and driving, dude! This is cool. That is 2 million updates, by the way. Why is your car so small? Oh man. You still got the fucking car. How could you possibly do that while you're driving?
[09:57] What's the cruise control on? It's fixing. What is this for, Meg? Maybe that'll fix it. Yeah. Oh my god. This is just pure comedy, man. Oh my god, that's so funny.
[10:10] This is awesome. What are we watching right now? Dude, what do you mean? It's pure comedy. Will you hit that Tesla over there?
[10:22] People actually watch this shit by the way. You don't? Oh, sorry I gotta put my seatbelt on. Yeah, you're behind the camera. Safety first, man. Is your class first class? Are you gonna write them all? Is your homework for the afternoon?
[10:34] Oh my god. Wow. Dude, he's like me for real for real. I ordered two burgers from six different classes. BEEEAM! I'm gonna call him. I'm gonna call him. I'm gonna call him. I'm gonna call him. I'm gonna call him. I'm gonna call him. I'm gonna call him.
[10:46] I'm gonna call him. I'm gonna call him. I'm gonna call him. I'm gonna call him. I'm gonna call him. How many flights until you show up do you think? Yeah, probably. Whatever. Wow.
[10:58] I didn't know. Dude, it was better than paying attention to what's going on. This is better than that. I just don't.
[11:10] Oh, my God. Oh, my God. He missed the nail. I love these channels because this is just a YouTube guy. This AI guy comes in and does an AI voiceover. Did you hear that discord join us?
[11:23] Yeah. Oh, there's a car from the right. Oh yeah. So dangerous.
[11:37] Hit like please. Oh, sorry I'm driving. You better miss the line and then head back. Dude, the only thing to complete this war is a
[11:49] It's called Coors Light. Oh yeah! Coors Light, one hand swiping the handle on the other, and he's on the steering wheel. There we go. It doesn't like when we go this way.
[12:01] I think it tries to connect to WiFi. I think it's also you get past like five videos and it starts to hit. How much data are you at right now? Uh... 240 megabytes. That's fine.
[12:13] That's fine, it's probably going to be sick. Big companies are really free about that. Yeah, yeah. So overall, it does work. It does what it says it'll do. I honestly wish it didn't.
[12:25] Oh, yeah. That's not amazing, but that's real. They should all be arrested. Yeah, this should be very illegal and taken down immediately. Well, maybe it's actually, like, maybe it's designed to explode after a couple minutes and kill whoever's watching stuff while they're driving.
[12:41] One of the things that actually ticks me off about this, though, is like, I don't know. I mean, I guess Timu doesn't try to be like, we're the best products. But I saw this because of a real Timu ad.
[12:53] It wasn't this product advertising. It was Timu advertising this product. And I'm like, you're a billion-dollar company. Are you really doing this shit? Come on. Well, this is a cash cow. That's why they're a billion-dollar company.
[13:05] Everyone wants to be streaming and driving. Well, next they're going to start selling car content. Yeah. Oh my god, wait. Oh, you can put Chad up here. Me? Yeah. Dude! You could stream from the car. We plug in a little...
[13:18] a camera there. Do you think we can get OBS? Oh, for sure. I think we can do live editing on our car, Bonko. Oh my god Tony Vegas We have some videos on Road Trip Sorry officer I had to make this cut here You ever heard of a cross dissolve
[13:37] You tell me what you think about those edits of yours. Um, the fucking Stream Deck soundboard of mine. I think, here, just have some background noise while we're finishing up. Yeah, yeah.
[13:51] I think if you own this, If you're at home and you're wondering, what are we watching? We're watching the movie in Venezuelan, Hambrin. Oh, wait, actually? Yeah. I would watch this on TV.
[14:04] Why? There's a big vat of ham in there. She's doing it up. What is hambrin? What is hambrin? What do you mean, what is hambrin? Look, I don't think that's ham bread making attire, I'm going to be honest.
[14:17] I do agree. What? You're straight away. Oh, shit, the ham. I see why they call it hambrin. Wow. Wow, must have taken a lot of effort. Thank God they set it up. Oh shit. Wait a second.
[14:31] Wait a second. I would totally do this. Alright, this is actually pretty cool. So heartwarming.
[14:43] Oh no! Like the video, like it, not you. Wait, I'm so confused. Is that the same video? What? Did we miss that the first time? I think she's trying to say don't waste food.
[14:55] Oh, okay. She's coming out of here. I've rarely seen such a woman who helps those in need. Well, can we just watch videos, right? You can rage bait post in YouTube.
[15:07] I would log in. I would drive. Watch one of your videos and comment, I'm driving right now. That'd be hype. Oh, shit. This is awesome.
[15:19] me swerve into oncoming traffic. Oh crap, I'm dying. It's so horrible. I can't help it. Why is it that in the future you can just leave those comments and we can never disprove it? We would never know.
[15:31] That's true. That's so true. Oh man, what a good device. This is awesome. Oh! What he just meant was absolutely incredible. Oh, fuck!
[15:43] Oh my god. He's not talking. Don't do it!
[15:55] I thought there was going to be an AI video and she launches into the sky. Oh yeah. I mean, she's AI, but yeah. I mean, she can go full on. No. What, you're telling me she wouldn't just do that? No. Crazy. No way.
[16:07] There's just a number. We're in a good rabbit hole right now. This is what YouTube shows you when you're not logged in. That's crazy. Absolutely. This is a clean algorithm.
[16:19] Well, this is for driving. Oh, yeah. Serving a good driving target. I thought the newspaper was going to do a little bit more damage. Instead, it just left the potato with a little heart. Oh.
[16:34] Now we're getting a little bit more damage. All right, well, we did it. Okay. Okay, um, I had a point I was going to say and now I forget it all.
[16:48] You know how some cars have that, uh, like, HUD that comes up at the bottom of your windshield? I have a little HUD right here. Oh, I can't see it. Yeah, it says zero miles per hour. You should do one that covers like your windshield.
[17:00] And there's a HUD here that plays this and I can hit the up and down. Oh! We have two air controls already. Just make two screens, guys. Two screens.
[17:12] Imagine you're driving up 75. You've been doing it for three hours. It's a straight road. But you've got your subway surfers on your windshield for you just to keep your brain occupied.
[17:24] That's a good idea. One last thing. I do want to see what the car button does. Cool. And I think that was only short. You can watch it. I can watch a movie.
[17:37] We can probably watch a show. We can share now. Because there's internet. It's not working on the internet? Would that work? It doesn't do anything. But we still have to log in. Yeah. We could probably do it.
[17:49] And then, yeah, I mean, I could open Netflix. I could watch a whole movie. That's crazy. That's good. The future is here. Well, thanks, Milan. Thanks, Milan. Thanks, Milan.
