Golf Cart Disaster: A Parenting Lesson
47sA relatable and dramatic parenting moment about a child's dangerous mistake and the ensuing life lesson.
▶ Play Clip"Title is clickbait—discussing a game dev's opinions on Emberville is a tiny fraction of the video, the rest is Valheim gameplay and life tangents. The gaming content is mostly unedited."
This video is a Valheim playthrough where the streamer narrates a real-life parenting moment, then discusses game development details for his upcoming game Emberville, and finally touches on handling opinions and criticism. The bulk of the stream is dedicated to gameplay, upgrading armor, and completing a swamp run.
The streamer had to pause the stream to discipline his son. His son jokingly disabled the brakes on a golf cart, causing it to roll down a hill, through a fence, and nearly totaling the vehicle. No one was hurt, but the streamer used this as a life lesson to take vehicles seriously and assigned chores as consequence.
Before heading out, the crew reviews their gear. They have an iron mace and a banded shield. They decide to upgrade the iron scale to level 2 and break down unnecessary items for resources. They also note that destroying boats grants all resources back.
The group heads to the swamp for an iron run. A key tactic is to create a system where enemies, like flame guys, immediately touch water and die upon spawning. This is used to safely complete the dungeon area.
Discusses two major Emberville features. It will have loadout sets called 'wardrobes', but they will not be available at Early Access launch. Weapon switching is heavily debated, but the team is erring away from combat weapon swapping for now. Armor will be fully visual and change the character's appearance, while weapons may not, due to the hand-drawn animation limitations, though unique special weapons might get their own animations.
The streamer gives advice on how to handle disagreements about taste and opinions. He suggests not being tribal or getting defensive when someone dislikes a thing you like. The mantra is to let people think what they want and focus on living your own life to reduce stress.
Emberville allows players to chase multiple builds on a single character, swapping loadouts at station-based wardrobes. Balance concerns around combat weapon switching vs. out-of-combat switching were their main reason to pause the feature. The streamer emphasizes that if a single weapon doesn't feel good, that's on the developer team to fix, which points to keeping a strong single weapon core system.
Discusses loot system nuances. Bosses drop unique items, materials, and trinkets. Twin RNG modifiers on items, and for perfect gear, players chase specific modifiers, mostly through epic end-game crafting. Boss drops will also have modifiers, and changing them comes only later in the game. By end of the game, they want different types of the same weapon (e.g., long vs. short bow) so there isn't just one best weapon proactively thinking about build variety.
The streamer is a co-creative lead, not a coder. He elaborates that his job is to direct the creative vision, while working with a studio named Cygnus Cross.
A free demo releases on October 19th. If you play the demo and like it, you can purchase and play the game during its Early Access phase, launching October 27th. The streamer explicitly asks viewers to try out the demo before buying to see if they like it, and stresses that EA is just the first step, with many features coming in later updates.
The streamer pushes back on a fan's comment about being the first streamer to release a game. Highlights that Queen and Jesse Cox have worked on many titles, like Gabland. Thus, they are not racing against anyone, the goal is for Emberville to be the best version of itself within its own scope.
The game director, Mira, is key in saying 'no' and keeps the project aligned with achievable goals. This comes up in every meeting to manage content. Examples: fishing is not in Early Access development, will be available in an update. The chart did recently update the Prologue demo with mechanics for new crafting benches before the spider fight, showing iterative improvement.
The streamer shares a specific special moment: the first time seeing the world map in Emberville. Encourages viewing the visual potential and exploration that comes from warping to new areas.
Life lesson on safety
Shows a rare authentic moment in a gaming stream, grounding the audience in real-world responsibilities and the consequences of unsafe actions.
[00:00] Hey Co. Thank you everybody. I'm sorry that took so long. That was just something I absolutely had to go address. The short of it is, my oldest child, there is a golf cart, an old golf cart, that my wife uses to go between the house and the barn.
[00:23] on. And my youngest, my oldest son, who knows not to use the golf cart without her around, because he can fiddle around on it if my wife or me are just standing there, right? Doesn't
[00:35] go fast. He knows not to do it. And to be clear, he didn't. But what he did do was he got in the golf cart, and he joked like he was driving it to his brothers, and when he
[00:51] did that, he disabled the brakes. So the message I got a little bit ago was a picture of the damage from where the golf cart slammed through the fence around our house and destroyed a
[01:04] good portion of it, and also nearly totaled the golf cart. Now thankfully the golf cart was an old piece of ish. Not a big deal. Golf cart was on its last legs anyway. It's a farm
[01:17] car. We didn't buy it new and we're not going to buy another one new. That's not a big deal. This is a different issue. Is everyone okay? Oh, everyone's fine. No one was in the golf car. He undid the brake at the top and then it rolled down the hill with no one in it.
[01:35] So everyone's fine. No one was even in a potential abatement. The issue is that he did not take a vehicle seriously. And that is what I had to go up and talk
[01:47] to him about. Because there are all sorts of times when that exact situation could have ended horribly. If like an animal was asleep and didn't hear the golf
[01:59] cart coming. If one of my other sons ran in front of it and didn't know it was flying down the hill. So I just had to go up and impress to him that today we dodged a bullet and that this was a life lesson. I mean, they can pay for all of it.
[02:12] so that's going to be a thing and we'll go from there so yeah yeah that's how that's going to work so cool more chores oh yeah
[02:24] more chores man my kids do a lot of chores I'm not teaching my kids I give these free loaders are you kidding me my kids have it real good because of my job so if anything that means we've got to be more strict
[02:36] in terms of what they earn and how they earn it or we're just going to spoil the hell out of them that's the last thing we want Uh, okay, we got a hoe! Yay. Alright, uh, so, needing more carrot soup before we go.
[02:52] I think we've got a great amount of all of them. Can I have you go gab for a minute? Yeah, one minute.
[03:04] I'm gonna go off you. Gotta have a good hoe. Hey! A dirty hoe is a happy hoe. Am I right, Gardner? That's right.
[03:20] Alright. Hmm. Alright. Okay, let's do...we could do the...I have a bandage shield, which
[03:33] shield, which I think I'm okay with right now. We can definitely upgrade our armor, and we probably want to... Do I want to make an iron sword, or an ancient bark spear, or a battle
[03:49] axe? Do I want any of these weapons? The spear you think is good? Sword is decent.
[04:04] Iron mace is best for our thoughts. I have an iron mace. So I don't remember where I put it. Somewhere. But I do have an iron mace. But we will... Yeah, we have the mace. We can use that for sure.
[04:17] How are forces? Battle axe is horrible? Oh, there's a new bow. He did a new bow. I didn't see that. Awesome. Huntsman's though. Oh, look at that.
[04:29] Hell yeah. Nice. Dude. I need to build this thing. What do I need to... Thunderstone?
[04:42] I don't have a Thunderstone? Guess I do right there.
[04:55] Oh, there's only one of them, so it doesn't pull it. That's right. Okay, cool.
[05:07] Um, what? Oh, it has to be outside. It's over here for now. Boop. Boop. Great.
[05:25] Oh, don't place it close to your house, it can burn your house down. Oh God. Thank you. Oh, it needs thunder to operate. Oh, that's cool. Okay.
[05:37] You were in there. Hi. You found a snack. Thank you. I'm going to go get it. I'm going to go get it. Okay. You're going to go get it. Okay. That's it. That's it. That's it.
[05:49] That's it. That's it. That's it. That's it. That's it. thanks baby. Alright we're gonna break down the bronze. I'm gonna keep the old trinket we'll keep the old hat we'll break down the leather trousers
[06:05] basically get this all nice. We'll break down the troll stuff. We'll break down the sears. We'll break down all this stuff.
[06:19] I have to pull the lever cronk? Okay. Cool.
[06:31] Cool. We get one pole. Okay, that's pretty nice. What about a corpse retrieval set? I think I'm going to make a proper corpse retrieval set at some point.
[06:43] Can I make a better cloak, dude? I can make a troll hide, Steve. But the armor's only one. Can I make, like, an armored... Ooh, it's something?
[07:00] Ah man, I got nothing. Okay. Alright, so I think we're ready to go move. We could do some upgrades if we wanted.
[07:12] We're gonna upgrade our iron scale now to 2. We'll go from 3 to 2. I need to upgrade this bench to do more.
[07:24] Which I can't do. Wait. End it. Oh, hell yeah. What is with... Why can't you do it? What?
[07:36] What? What? You guys still pissed at me?
[07:57] They're still... Jeez, they're still mad at me, dude. These boars are angry. I have no idea why, like, I'm not able... Is this... Do you need more space? Why?
[08:10] Why do I need so much space here? This is very awkward. Does it always end like this? Huh. I think it's always been like that.
[08:23] Okay. Alright, we have... Oh, no! Wait. No, I'm not doing this again.
[08:35] Hold on. Where are my nails? Okay.
[08:47] I'm definitely making that second view of the boat. Okay. Awesome. What else do we need for the boat? We need ten more fine wood, and that's...
[09:01] Let's do it. Hell yeah. You can put those things on an elevation. Yeah, I think I'm going to build a little thing above it and put them up there. It's super weird having them off to the side like this. Alright. Yeah, I agree.
[09:13] Great change. Alright. Is it like there maybe?
[09:27] Did you see a board and team? What's he doing? Bro Okay, maybe there's more stuff in there man
[09:39] There's more stuff in there, man. Dude, 45 armor now. There we go, dude.
[09:51] Much, much, much better. Let's put that in there for now. You can also build a basement.
[10:04] That's true. Okay. Hey, friend. I know you're angry. don't worry I'm gonna feed you carrots and all sorts of stuff. Don't you worry big guy.
[10:16] All right chat I think we're gonna get this next shift ready and then we're gonna go and do another big seal run. We've got a bunch of stuff to do in the seal area so we're gonna go to and look at that.
[10:29] I think maybe time to move our portal. We could probably move our portal to a better spot now as well something to think about. Tame the boars, they have to have some fire torches, they're too close to fire.
[10:43] I think we rectified that. I'm pretty sure we just got a boar getting tamed in reference, so I think we're okay. I appreciate the 10 news, I just saw that.
[11:00] Appreciate you man, thank you for tipping the mod fee, buddy. Wow. Um, let's do this with you. Okay, we're going to need to actually win anyway. We need to get the pine wood for the portal too.
[11:18] Dude, that's the second time we've switched someone with a tree. Today. Put it right there. Like, that happened earlier in this stream.
[11:30] Palhander's just a lovely game, isn't it? It really is. All right, looking good. We're right at the weight limit. Go ahead and hit on back.
[11:51] Wow, beautiful. Uh-oh, it actually sorted my honey. So I need to do this. There we go. Wonderful. These items will not be stored.
[12:06] Great. Alright. Great.
[12:19] All right, so this is our old boat.
[12:35] The new one is... 14. Oh, wait a second, there was a thing here.
[13:04] Hold on, hold on. There was a range.
[13:16] I think this one's great. Does this work? Oh, hell yeah. That's right. Beautiful. That's what we're talking about. Okay.
[13:28] I think I should take that other boat out first. The range check adds a lot of lag be aware of that Oh thank you Great to know I appreciate it Basically when you destroy your boat you get all of the resources back so you don
[13:55] have to worry about losing the resources. Thank you.
[14:26] Hell yes!
[14:44] Feels good, man. Feels good. We're having a nice sweet proper time here. Sure, champ! Hope you're having fun building your massive Valheim fortress. Are we going to get a final build video again last month?
[14:58] You can see us, robots, tonight on the basis of our Tornadoes Mystery Dungeon, a remake from 1993 for the first time available on PC in English. Oh, cool. Well, first of all, thanks.
[15:10] That's awesome. I didn't know about that. Second of all, yes, I'm planning on doing a big build in this game at some point. I don't know when that's going to be, but yes, I have an idea for a base I'd like to do,
[15:22] and I think I'm going to try to do it. So, that is where we are there. Hi, boar! Hey, berry.
[15:37] Hey, berry. Could I get a... Could I get a naming pool up for our aminals? Is there a better way to feed them than just to throw food on the ground?
[15:52] Or is that just how, do we have like a trough or something? There we go, that's a good one. There's a mod for, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
[16:04] Great. We're going to have mod boards. We're going to have mod boards. You need a little Agonier, a little Suzu. Guys, Suzu, it's okay.
[16:16] You know what, I don't think I'm going to have enough animals for a bunch of names, so it'll be mod names for now. It'll be mod names for now. All good. Thank you, the berry. It may be good to get one cooking just in case.
[16:29] Maybe. I'll put the nails in here for now. You look there for now. Okay.
[16:42] I'm making Susie's job very difficult right now. As I like to do. Okay. Okay. So. chat I think we're going back to do a steel run and run around in there
[16:54] anything else you want to do before we go up you can do the carrot later we're almost done processing the steel which is awesome almost done
[17:07] Great. Alright. Lovely.
[17:19] God, that's nice. Okay. Let's go to the swamp. We're going to leave that boat here, and we'll come back and break it down and take it with us when we're ready. Oh, yes, I need iron, do you mind?
[17:31] I'm saying steel a bunch of times. I need iron. Yeah. Congrats on 500k on YouTube, says Pastor. Thank you, dude. Yes! 500,000 subs over on YouTube. That came out of nowhere, man.
[17:45] I really appreciate all my peoples over on YouTube, dude. Thank you guys for watching over there. I know the stuff that I make is not really generally what you would call YouTube-friendly. So I really appreciate it, man. It's super awesome.
[17:58] Okay. For this, I'm going to take it and I'm going to break it. Now it's the thing. Take it and break it.
[18:11] We don't need to haul this all the way back over there. There we go. We haven't made the metal helmet yet, but that's okay. Are you going to tell me about the black horse?
[18:27] Yeah, there we go. Right. Oh dude, mmm.
[19:07] pretty good yeah I too have heard the best ham comes from Black Forest so I mean that's that's definitely a thing that's a thing chap big old thing
[19:31] hmm Hmm. Of course, then I wouldn't get poisoned, right? All right, we need to get rested at some point.
[19:44] We can build a fire in here. Do that here in a minute. Go! I don't remember getting a thing from him about this long.
[20:02] Oh, okay. Giving us some basic info there about the temperature stuff. Yeah, unfortunately, by putting the mod in, it looks like we reset our progress with QN and his tips.
[20:19] But I do want to keep getting the tips from him. I know there's a bunch we haven't gotten, and he says stuff for new biomes and stuff, so I don't want to turn it off. I'm sorry to apologize. That was a little annoying. Let's see if we have enough fire going here.
[20:43] Let's get our rest of the thing back. Alright, get all this back. Food is looking a little low. We'll go ahead and get that back up.
[21:09] Waiting for that rested bonus in the top right here to see it pop up in just a second. Okay, so we're going to make motions over to this other side.
[21:26] Let's go ahead and get our axe out because we're going to need that. Chop down a tree to make a workbench so we can make our other stuff again. Our cart.
[21:47] Oh man, Agravard Dragon? Dude, what's crazy is I play games for a living and I'm still running into that right now. So, it's not just you, man.
[22:00] It's like, but yeah, you're absolutely right. You're absolutely right. I barely play games outside of streaming. Last night was the first time I did. It's been a while since I did a Valheim farming offline. And then before that, it was just EQL and stuff.
[22:13] Whenever I can have a spare minute. Now here he is. Woo! Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you with that stuff.
[22:28] Okay, you first, right here. Then you next, right here. I'm going to go to you, and we're going to put all this stuff in it,
[22:40] as much as we can, pretty much. We're going to bring you in. Now this area over here, I think what we can do is we can basically make it so the second
[22:56] these mobs spawn in, they immediately touch water. The thing that's funny about that is that if these flame guys touch water, they instantly
[23:09] die. So what we can do is we can set this up so the second we walk up, they all just die. Now I think we have to be careful because I believe we can mess up the inner area.
[23:23] It's been a long time since I've done that. Is there anything with this tree? This isn't a tree that can chop down, is it? No.
[23:36] Congratulations. This stuff in the Ebonafel.
[23:48] Agrabah dragon. That's the good part at least though, right? Like if you get more things to do than are gaining, at least a lot of things are doing are meaningful and fun. You got to count our chickens. That's not always the case, right?
[24:01] I'm glad to hear you're in that boat. My wish of an ex-wife also melts when she touches water.
[24:14] Oh my god. Boom. I don't know.
[24:29] Bro, with the cadence at which those enemies were attacking me, I don't think there was any prayer that I had at surviving that. Like, not at that location, not with those people. That was just not going to happen.
[24:42] Yep. Mm-hmm. Hey, Generation.
[24:54] Generation, it's totally okay for people to not like the games that you do. You don't need to yell at them for that, man. It's all right. Yeah, we don't that's not how we roll here my dude
[25:07] Just a friendly heads up Okay, we're going to try to do a pretty quick standard run back here.
[25:33] How much pig he's doing? Uh-oh. Oh, the robot's still in there. And I need to put some light in there. my poor piglet my poor mistreated piggy did I get arrested? I did, good
[25:45] so Leanna says imagine getting mad at somebody not having the same taste as you well bro, that's human that's human
[25:58] you do it all the time too we all do it's built in unfortunately it's saintinism it's tribalism that's how it works if you hear somebody say I don't like this and you like it, there's a reason inside you feel defensive.
[26:12] Oh, I need to say something to that person because he's wrong. Because his view isn't mine, which means mine's wrong? No, I need to defend that. Like, that's how that works. It's like a, it's a,
[26:24] that's just, unfortunately, that's just being human. The best thing you can do is just let people think whatever they want about shit and not let it bother you. That's the best part. The best thing you can do is when somebody goes,
[26:36] drops into a channel and says, man, Valheim is pretty meh. Instead of going, shut the hell up, this is the best survival game ever, have you not looked at it at sales? You can go, oh, that's cool you think that way.
[26:52] Because at the end of the day, it doesn't matter at all what they think. It doesn't change your experience. You don't have to defend what you like, because frankly, it doesn't matter. Just don't let yourself, I mean, life is short, man.
[27:05] Don't stress over that stuff. All those feelings are your lizard brain trying to force you to be tribal And you don need to do that You don need to follow that stress hole You don have to Yeah you can decide not to
[27:24] Absolutely. Rice gets a lot easier when you realize that you really don't... And you hear it all the time.
[27:36] You hear it all the time. I've heard it all the time. We all hear it all the time. But when you start not listening to, but really living the don't care what other people think mantra,
[27:49] that's like a, that's a, I, for the record, am not yet there. It's a journey I am currently on. I'm working on it. But man, that is a wonderful way to live life. A wonderful way to live life.
[28:02] It really is. It's just, everything's better. Just everything is better. Just by respecting other people's opinions and realizing that you don't need to like the same things,
[28:15] you don't need to be defensive about it, you don't need to convince them. So many points of stress just kind of fade away from your life. Then you can stress about other things. Yay.
[28:30] Oh, God. Oh, we actually got them. Okay. So we got our items, which is excellent. We're going to see if we can kind of like dip, dive, duck and dodge back into this place
[28:42] and then we're going to get all the clips and stuff. I don't want to clip out here, it's too dangerous. Daniel, Daniel Dan, like I hear what you're saying and I understand that, but like imagine
[29:01] not liking the Valheim. I get it, I see what you're saying, I'm going to let you finish. I am. But, I need to level up my shield. I bet that would let me block better things.
[29:18] I have not been doing that in my career. The right side is pretty much done.
[29:33] Oh, stairs up? You don't go up too often in these. Oh, it's a dead end. Let's do that again. I thought I was going somewhere.
[29:54] Alright. Oh, Cracker Jack! Super Jack, I'm excited for Emberville, But the Co-Owl features mentioned, I won't be forced to evaluate trade-offs, specifically armor sets and weapon switching.
[30:09] If those do make it in my field, there should be some penalty to use them. Okay, so that's a really interesting thing you brought up. So we are, we've received a lot of feedback about adding in weapon switching and loadout sets.
[30:24] And I do want people to know that that is absolutely something we will have in Emberville. in mid to late game. So one thing we really want in Emberville is the ability not only to chase certain builds,
[30:38] but chase certain builds on the same character. So even though all of your classes are leveling up at the same time, we want there to be things and items and things that you craft in your state that you walk up to them like a wardrobe
[30:51] and quickly change your character's equipment, what class is active, what abilities are active. so there's a lot of that you can change all manually yourself but we want you to
[31:03] be able to do that quickly but that's not something we'll have the very beginning of the game you won't even have enough skills to be able to do that until like early mid game so weapon sets are something else we're talking and
[31:17] thinking about but we need to figure out we don't want people necessarily feeling like combat is required to have multiple weapons so we considered weapon swapping but then we were like, maybe we should have weapon swapping out of combat,
[31:31] and then we were like, well, at that point, do we even really need weapon swapping if you can't be in combat to do it? And that led into maybe we want weapon swapping in combat, but then that changes a lot of the balancing. So we may actually end up doing that. Don't get me wrong.
[31:44] This is one of the things that we'll talk about during EA. But we have a vision on how that system is going to work, but implementing it and seeing how it really feels and undergoing and adjusting is going to be a part of EA.
[31:56] So I will say right now, we're erring away from weapon stuff. Because we do want people to kind of like have a weapon, and then once they have it unlocked in all the combos, if the weapon doesn't feel good enough on its own, I feel like that's an us thing. We need to fix that.
[32:12] So, like if a weapon is masked out, and you can do everything with it, and it doesn't feel fun, like that's on the chest, that's on the body. So, if it's the kind of thing where people feel like they need to be using multiple weapons to do what they want to do, then yeah.
[32:29] That's something that I think we need to more address than potentially adding weapons blocking. So this will all be stuff that comes later. There won't be weapons blocking in EA, I don't believe. We'll talk about all of that in Day 2.
[32:43] Will the be cool gear that is bossed in dungeon exclusive drops like Terraria instead of just crafting like Beerizing or Power World? So if you saw me play the Prologue demo, I'm sure you noticed that after I beat the Spider
[32:58] boss, I got a special gold staff called the Spider Staff in the dungeon right after that. So yes, not only will bosses drop unique loot, but many bosses will drop unique loot rarely.
[33:13] So, yeah, that will be a challenge. And boss farming will also be a challenge. I don't know how much, the boss farming stuff is, we want it to be kind of a little bit more mid and late.
[33:27] We're going to see how much of that should be in EA. But it will be in the game relatively quickly, as Biome 1 and 2 will eventually, relatively fast, have items you're going to want to farm off of. Right now we're just hyper focused on getting EH the best it can be for you guys.
[33:46] Then we're really going to start diving into that stuff as we begin the dev process after that. Alright, let's go through all this stuff. Uh oh. How much am I carrying? Um, is that enough? Almost. There we go.
[34:00] Just gotta go through all this stuff outside real quick. will crafting do the strongest or boss weapons do the strongest? If boss weapons are the strongest,
[34:12] then why is crafting useful? So, boss weapons will... Bosses will drop unique items. They will drop crafting materials. And they will drop trinkets and other stuff as well. So, there will be...
[34:27] Now, I will say this. The way that our game works is that whenever you get items, they have RNG identifiers on them or RNG factors to them. So we're, again, still kind of nailing down
[34:42] how much of those will let you park and change, but the premise will most likely be that to get your perfect set of gear, you're going to be chasing specific modifiers, and in that case, you're going to be doing mostly high-end crafting.
[34:56] However, that being said, when boss weapons drop, they're going to have their own modifiers on them, So you may have like good versions of boss weapons that more fit your build and there may be boss weapons that drop that don't really fit your build.
[35:09] So and then it's probably not going to be until mid to late game that you can actually change those modifiers in the boss weapons So you just have to either keep farming them or deal with them. And we may even make it so for a lot of them you can't You just have to farm them. But different weapons will have different effects, will have different modifiers
[35:25] And that alone will also dictate like what you do. Another thing that we want is by end game this is another thing we've talked about by the time you get to end game we don't necessarily want just like
[35:37] one best sword type and one best bow type. So when you get to the end of the game it will be more of like do you want a long bow or a short bow?
[35:49] Like there will be different types of weapons in the same weapon category. And that way it's like it's not just go get the golden sword of a thousand truths, right? It's like, well, do you want more of a long sword? Do you want more of like a scimitar that's faster?
[36:01] or do you want like a big two-hand? You can try to go on two-hand, but I mean like a slower, higher damage, faster, less damage. You know, do you want one that's more quick-spec? You know, stuff like that. So, yeah.
[36:13] And again, that's going to be late game, though. That's much later in development. Probably another year, year and a half before we start seeing that stuff in.
[36:25] Because until then, there's a nice conveyor belt of quality, which is really working. What game am I talking about? Emberville, the game I'm working on. Do I do any coding on Emberville?
[36:37] No. I'm a co-creative lead, and I call in the studio that's making it.
[36:49] Right. Place all that. We're getting a ton of poison arrows. If I remember right, they're actually pretty decent. So that's good.
[37:01] Uhhhh, let's see... You don't weigh anything. Bringing back a lot of ancient wood too. Um, are these things farm again?
[37:13] They are, they are. Wait, are you not dying in the water? Oh, you are. That's good. Okay, different, different. There it goes.
[37:31] I don't think it was deep enough over here. Oh, we're out of our stuff.
[37:47] Okay. Good enough for now. An important thing for me is that the weapon armor actually changes how the character is
[38:00] and not the severe inventory. Yeah, so armor is completely visual on your characters. The weapons, not so much. That's something we're kind of playing with. It becomes a lot more finicky when your weapon is also animated.
[38:12] Or excuse me, your weapon is also changed. Because the things that people have to remember is our game is hand-drawn animated. so that means if we make it so your weapons also look different a ton of our animations have the person holding the weapon
[38:27] so we would have to make a separate animation for every single weapon type of every animation that features the weapon movement so that is something we decided kind of early we don't think we're going to do the armor is absolutely going to look different
[38:39] you can hide all your armor and there's actually going to be a form of transmog so all of that absolutely but we're not 100% sure yet if we're going to do some kind of, like, weapon overlay.
[38:53] We're still deciding. Yeah. Maybe we'll only do it for, like, very special weapons. We have talked about, they aren't in the game yet, to be clear, but we absolutely have talked about some special unique weapons having their own unique animations.
[39:06] So, like, you'd absolutely see the character be using the weapon in that case because it would be an animation unique to that weapon. So that's something we'll probably do in the end game, like the epic quest kind of weapon stuff.
[39:19] And for the record, I've already cleared with the team that we don't know when it's going to be in, but I want ever quest style epic quest at the end game. And we're going to have some fun with that.
[39:32] Like big quests that take a long time and a lot of rare drops, but they give you something that's like really good at the end. like you put the time in you got it kind of thing now those quests
[39:44] may not even be available until after you've beaten the game and you're just doing like end game boss rush fun stuff but yeah we'll see is that scope creep? no no no that's stuff we've talked about I'm talking about stuff
[39:56] that's again I'm trying to be very careful almost everything I'm talking about right now is not going to be in EA this is stuff coming in the development cycle of Emberdon so between October 27th and the two years we're planning on it
[40:08] being done yeah Most of the stuff I'm talking about right now is not in Early Access. Because again, Early Access is like the very first biome. It's the first boss, it's four villagers, it's four weapon types, four classes.
[40:24] We're going to have like four times all of that in eight biomes by the time it's at the end. So, there will be a whole lot of progress within the next couple years. So, who's doing a Sean? No, no, no, I'm being careful to only talk about stuff we've talked
[40:39] about in the team. Now, granted, Tommy has done that too, but I will say that the team that working on Emberville Cygnus Cross they done a phenomenal job so far I am super confident in their ability to deliver this It has been fantastic working with them The game director Mira Thiago has been phenomenal at keeping everyone on board
[40:59] and we're hitting milestones left and right. We have been for years. It's been real good. It's been real good.
[41:11] When can we play Emberville? you can play Emberville for free when we release the Emberville Show Log demo on October 19th. And I am highly requesting and asking that you please try the demo before you buy it.
[41:25] So you know exactly what you're getting into before you give us money. And also if you want to do EA, a lot of people are going to want to wait and play Emberville at 1.0. That's more than okay. Please wait. If you want the full experience, please wait.
[41:41] Yep. Hmm. Is there a spawner in here? So that's where we are. But there's still going to be a ton of EA. And more importantly, if you're in EA, you can help us make the game.
[41:53] We have a very, a very fun early access planned. A fast and heavy early access. It's going to be good. What if I try the demo and don't like it? Should I buy it anyway?
[42:05] Yeah, probably. At that point you should probably buy like four or five copies. Yeah, just to really piss me off, you know. I'd be so mad.
[42:20] Okay. Put all of this in. Wonderful.
[42:39] Can we make this any more quiet? I don't think we can make this any quieter.
[42:52] I'm just concerningly... I think that tree is going to kind of screw it up. I don't know why I'm looking at it.
[43:09] I really need those fours though, this is going to help us get all of our stuff going a lot faster when we get home. Are you hurt again?
[43:22] Click view there. No, you're fine. Go.
[43:34] Appreciate the vote of confidence, next wave. we'll uh you know for me for me I'll be really excited when EA is here and it's quality and awesome and then I'll really be excited when 1.0 is here
[43:46] and we're all playing the game that's EA is just the start of the journey for us so I really appreciate the people that are taking it with us but it is it is just the first step man it is just the first step
[43:58] we'll see what we can do it's pretty cool What's going on with Emberville and regional pricing? I don't know. I know we've been wrestling with that.
[44:11] It's not... yeah. Let me see if I can... I'm going to ping our CEO about the latest on that.
[44:23] Yeah, I'll get you some more info. We've been going back and forth with a lot of people over there, so I don't know the current state of that. That's something the CEO must be thinking about. I'll take that one.
[44:36] You're going to be the first streamer that actually releases a game and not the sponsor's video?
[44:54] Um, well, two things. First of all, that's not really a concern of mine. Second of all, no, that's not true. I think there's been many streamers that have been involved in games that have released.
[45:09] In fact, there is a great streamer. He looks at his FPSs and stuff. His name is Queen. And Queen, just last week, released... And you need to check this out if you haven't. If what I'm about to say interests you, you need to check this game out.
[45:23] It is a pixel art version of Docker. and it's called Gabland and it is awesome
[45:35] and I don't know his exact role on the project but I know that Cleen is heavily involved in the project so it just entered the area last week also what is it Jesse Cox
[45:47] man Jesse Cox has made like five games I think granted he's more of like a YouTuber than a streamer but I mean it's the same thing so I'm concerned in that regard.
[46:00] Yeah, he's made a bunch of games, man. Jesse Cox has done it. And Dodger, too, yeah. They've done all sorts of stuff, so. Yeah. Mm-hmm. But again, it's never been about being the first, dude.
[46:15] And also, we're not comparing ourselves to other people. Emberville's not going to be the best game you've ever played. It's probably not going to be anyone's game of the year, but all we're concerned about with Emberville is that it's the best possible version of Emberville that it can be.
[46:29] That is our focus. Not that it's first, not that it's out quickly, not that it makes a lot of money. It's just that our focus, and this is a big part of me joining the project, is that it is the absolute best version of it that it can be by this year.
[46:42] So that's what we're doing. That's what our focus is. That's why we're doing EA. That's why we're doing everything we're doing. And hopefully, to put it bluntly, that will then equate to a lot of sales.
[46:54] But, we would much rather have the very solid game in no sales than some creamer PR bullshit that has a lot of sales in its garbage. So, that's been our stance the whole time and we're sticking to it.
[47:12] Is there a reason behind the name Emberville? Well, the CEO actually came up with Emberville. They had a premise and a demo before they contacted me.
[47:27] I just kind of wildly changed the scope of it and everything. But, yeah, so he came up with the Emberville, and they had a good idea of the lore when they contacted me, but we made some big changes to kind of move things around,
[47:41] but, you know, stuff like that. Yeah, at one point we will have the CEO on the channel to talk about Emberville and stuff, and that would be a great question for him. Mm-hmm.
[47:53] You okay, Phil? Oh, that's just these guys dying over here. I was like, what is that horrible screaming every time they come out? Oh, that's what it is. Yeah.
[48:15] Do they have one guy in the team specifically to tell you no so you don't expand the scope too much? That'd be the game director, Mira. Yeah, Mira over the last year especially has gotten very, very good at diplomatically telling me that I'm asking too much.
[48:32] I mean, honestly, that's one of the issues with my position, right? Because I'm a creative leader. So I'll be in a meeting and I'll say, like, I want to do this, this, this, this, this, and this.
[48:44] And Mira will go, okay, we absolutely can do every bit of those. Which one do you want done soon? let's talk about what we can do now like what do you want done
[48:57] soon what do you want done by 1.0 we've had a lot of conversations like that a lot of delegation of times and orders of operations
[49:09] like for instance what we're talking about right now you guys know me you guys know how I feel about fishing but we're not having fishing in EA that's a perfect example of what we're talking about we're not having fishing in EA and the reason we're not having fish in EA
[49:23] is because Nero sat me down one day and he goes, look dude, like we could put fishing in EA just like the other harvesting and stuff but we're hyper-focused on the mechanics, the core, obviously,
[49:35] and if we stay hyper-focused on that we will not have the time to make the fishing minigame that you've talked about for this game by EA. And he literally was like, what do you want to do about it?
[49:47] We're going to ban fish. And what we came up with is, cool then. No phishing in EA. We'll just not put it in EA then and we'll put it in a new update. We'll do it right when we do it. So we've had stuff like that pop up every meeting.
[50:02] We have meetings multiple times a week, pretty much every meeting. I would say we talk about like what we can do, what we can have. We just had a huge, huge issue with the demo because like there were all sorts of systems that we wanted to put in the demo that like
[50:16] may have not been there. Like for instance, if you guys noticed, the demo got updated while we were there and part of the update added in a bunch of crafting benches right before the spider fight.
[50:28] So now you can go and you can disassemble everything in your inventory, you can build new things if you want to go chase new modifiers, do all sorts of fun stuff. So you know, but decisions like that take time and focus away from other things and you have to make sure you balance
[50:44] call that. I mean... yeah, it's okay. FYI, you often say in EA when you mean at EA launch. Yeah, I'll be more clear about that. That's a good call. Thank you.
[50:59] I'm gonna play Dawnwalker today? Yes, I'm gonna play Dawnwalker. I'm getting this to the end here first, actually. I wanted to finish this kind of swamp run before we switch over to Dawnwalker. I don't like leaving runs like this half open when we come back to them.
[51:14] Will Emberville work on Steam Deck? Yes, Emberville will work on Steam Deck at EA launch. There you go.
[51:31] When am I going to stream Emberville next? Oh, probably not for a bit. Yeah, I just did the big prologue demo recently, and that was kind of all the content I could show.
[51:44] Well, no, I say that. So, the demo comes out on the 17th, and the game goes into EA on the 27th. We will definitely do a stream before EA
[51:56] that sets the expectations and talks about everything in EA. So, yeah, the demo's on the 19th, and then we will at some point do a stream between... Oh, God, how do I get off this thing, dude?
[52:09] There we go. We will absolutely do a stream, talk about EA and that kind of stuff. I don't know how much of actual Emberville I'd show. But I'll probably just do a video or something. I don't know if I can play it. I might.
[52:21] You know, EA is wildly different than the prologue. I mean, it's basically just each film, and then you get to see all the cool stuff that comes next.
[52:35] The biggest thing I can't wait for you guys to see is the world map. first time I saw the world map in Emberville, like, what it is, that's when my eyes, like, one of the first times was really like, oh, my God, this is going to work.
[52:49] Like, it's... The reason is it's more the potential you see, not that you see something that amazes you originally, but, like, it just immediately, like... You know what? I'm just going to go ahead and spoil it for you. So, basically, right, you go back up to the Vicarious Crystal,
[53:02] and when you use it, a big map pops up with one little... Oh, I'm not taking my cart. Fine, we'll leave the cart there. With one little teleporter in the middle. And a little tiny bit of space around it.
[53:14] That's all you see. And then you're like, oh, what do you do? You click on it. And you warp in. And you're just in this big new world. And you start running around exploring it. And then you find another crystal. And you're like, oh, I can warp out.
[53:28] And then you warp back to town. Maybe do some selling. Maybe check some vendors. And then when you go back to the crystal, you notice that all of a sudden that little tiny area you saw the first time you've uncovered a bunch
[53:40] and there's the Christian restaurant and then it's like oh then it all starts clicking good for me good for everyone then it all starts clicking like oh okay like this is cute
[53:53] again that's how it was for me may not be that way for you but that's how it was for me and it was very it felt very good not even designed it it felt pretty good at that point help design it.
[54:06] So yeah, it's very cool. It's a good feeling. Okay. Chat? Valheim has been
[54:18] amazing. I am not done today. But I do want to play some Dawnwalkers. So what I'm going to do is switch over to Blood of the Dawnwalker. The Blood of Dawnwalker.
