Your Guide to Picking the Perfect Main in WoW: The War Within

[00:01] toughest decisions you make when playing

[00:03] World of Warcraft and it's never been

[00:04] more of a difficult Choice than it is

[00:06] right now while it may be easy to follow

[00:08] Trends and get hyped over tier list

[00:09] videos I wanted to make a guide on the

[00:11] right way to pick your main that isn't

[00:13] going to leave you frustrated if you end

[00:15] up picking what your favorite YouTuber

[00:16] tells you is some Godly s tier spec now

[00:19] in this video I'll be giving you a

[00:21] series of questions that you should

[00:22] answer that will help you make the right

[00:24] choice and will increase your chances of

[00:26] success and enjoyment in whatever class

[00:28] or spec you decide to play and lastly be

[00:30] sure to stick around for the end of the

[00:32] video where I'll be giving you guys my

[00:34] top suggestions for each role in the

[00:36] game that you can't go wrong with so the

[00:38] first thing I wanted to talk about with

[00:40] this video is going to be the warband

[00:42] system now the warband system is going

[00:44] to be that new feature that's coming to

[00:45] the war within which is going to allow

[00:47] us to have shared progression between

[00:49] all of our alts and in my opinion I

[00:50] think the warband system is going to

[00:53] basically make the option of picking our

[00:54] main that much easier essentially the

[00:57] warband system is alt insurance now

[00:59] prior to this expansion I think picking

[01:01] your main was probably a more permanent

[01:03] and more serious decision but because of

[01:05] the warband system it's going to be a

[01:07] lot easier because now if you guys pick

[01:09] your main and you know down the road

[01:11] you're just not feeling it you'll be

[01:12] able to swap characters pretty easily

[01:14] with the warband system because the

[01:15] warband system is basically you know

[01:17] shared progression between all of our

[01:18] characters and obviously you'll have

[01:20] those warbound items that you'll be

[01:22] collecting that you can gear up your

[01:23] alts with and on top of that I also

[01:25] highly suggest that whatever main you

[01:27] decide to pick you should always have a

[01:28] backup option that means having an ALT

[01:31] that you play regularly that wouldn't

[01:32] require a ton of time and dedication to

[01:35] gear up if you decided to switch

[01:37] characters if there's one thing that I

[01:39] wanted you guys to take away from this

[01:40] video above all else it is this do not

[01:43] chase the flavor of the month I know how

[01:45] tough this one can be because I

[01:46] personally love tearless videos and it's

[01:48] always really hard to watch these videos

[01:51] you know someone will be like oh yeah

[01:52] subtlety Rogues s tier it's going to

[01:54] blow everything out of the water you

[01:55] guys need to play this and you're

[01:56] sitting here watching the video and

[01:57] you're just like dang I really should

[01:59] play a right now but I'm here to tell

[02:01] you guys do not do this chasing the

[02:03] flavor of the month is never a good

[02:05] option because two things are going to

[02:06] happen firstly you're going to spend a

[02:08] bunch of time and investment into

[02:10] gearing up this flavor the month spec

[02:12] only to have it be nerfed into the

[02:13] ground later on and you're going to be

[02:15] really frustrated on top of that also

[02:17] the flavor of the month might be

[02:19] something that you don't enjoy playing

[02:20] and that's going to burn you out later

[02:22] on down the road and I get it you

[02:24] probably want to be playing something

[02:25] that's op and just does really well I do

[02:27] too but the thing is when it comes to

[02:29] balance tuning in World of Warcraft it

[02:31] just changes way too much for you to

[02:34] have that be a consideration when you're

[02:35] trying to pick a main a much better way

[02:37] to go about this is to find a class in

[02:40] Spec that you actually enjoy playing

[02:42] because chances are eventually whatever

[02:44] you're playing at some point during the

[02:46] duration of the expansion your spec is

[02:48] going to be really good and that's how

[02:49] balance tuning works it's literally a

[02:51] roll of the dice on whether something is

[02:53] going to be good or not unless you're

[02:54] playing something like a feral Druid

[02:56] sorry guys so this next question is

[02:58] something that is going to to be a

[03:00] really big factor in what you guys want

[03:02] to play and that is going to be are you

[03:04] a more casual player or a more hardcore

[03:06] player and what do I mean by this I

[03:08] consider a casual player someone that

[03:11] you know plays only a few hours a week

[03:13] maybe they have like an hour or two

[03:14] after work on the weekends something

[03:16] like that they do LFR or maybe they'

[03:18] dipped their toes into the normal mode

[03:21] of the raid or even done a few low

[03:23] levels of Mythic plus now if that sounds

[03:25] like you you guys have the best choices

[03:27] because you can literally pick whatever

[03:29] you want to play balance tuning and

[03:31] player perception do not apply to you

[03:33] guys now if you're a hardcore player

[03:35] there are some things that you do need

[03:36] to consider when picking your main and

[03:38] that's going to be balance tuning and

[03:40] player perception hey there buddy uh

[03:42] didn't you just say that uh not to pick

[03:44] flavor of the month and play with you

[03:45] enjoy yes I did say that but there is a

[03:48] big difference between trying to pick

[03:50] the flavor of the month and chasing

[03:51] Trends versus not picking the DPS that

[03:55] is bottom of the barrel when it comes to

[03:56] damage and never getting invited to a

[03:58] group and that is the main reason why I

[04:00] always tell everyone to have a backup

[04:02] alt and that is why I think War bands is

[04:04] such an awesome feature for the war

[04:06] within because again it's going to make

[04:08] having that backup character so much

[04:10] easier to maintain and have ready in

[04:12] case whatever class and spec you picked

[04:13] is just terrible the next big question

[04:16] you need to ask yourself is do you want

[04:18] to tank DPS or heal maybe you want to do

[04:21] a couple of things maybe you want to DPS

[04:23] but also tank when you need to or maybe

[04:25] you want to do all of them some choices

[04:27] definitely have more options than others

[04:29] for example a druid is going to be a

[04:30] really good pick if you want to

[04:32] literally do everything in the game

[04:33] because the Druid can literally do

[04:35] everything it can tank it can heal it's

[04:37] got a melee and a range DPS option and

[04:39] regardless of the spec that you play on

[04:41] the Druid it's got a ton of utility that

[04:43] people want in their groups so

[04:44] definitely take a look at the different

[04:46] classes that you're thinking about and

[04:47] see what kind of options they have for

[04:49] their specs another thing that I want

[04:51] you guys to take into consideration when

[04:53] you're picking your class in Spec is

[04:55] something that I call reroll insurance

[04:57] now this mainly is more focused towards

[04:59] DPS players but that is basically

[05:02] picking a class that has multiple specs

[05:04] at all DPS so that way you know if your

[05:07] spec that you're playing and enjoy is

[05:09] not very good you still have two other

[05:11] options that are more than likely going

[05:12] to be a lot better than what you're

[05:14] currently using so for example let's say

[05:16] you're playing a mage right and you love

[05:17] playing Arcane but arcane's not

[05:19] performing really well well you have two

[05:21] other options there's probably a very

[05:23] good chance that fire or Frost are both

[05:25] doing pretty good so instead of having

[05:27] to reroll to a brand new class you can

[05:30] just swap specs and play something that

[05:32] just does a little bit better and this

[05:33] brings up a really good point and that

[05:35] is whatever class you guys decide to

[05:37] play make sure that you enjoy playing

[05:39] all the specs that it brings to the

[05:41] table if you just absolutely love

[05:43] playing a shadow priest but you hate

[05:45] playing discipline or holy what happens

[05:47] if Shadow ends up being really bad

[05:49] that's literally the only DPS spec for

[05:51] priest so your chances are you're either

[05:53] going to one trick and just you know

[05:55] stick with playing the shadow priest

[05:56] even when it's really bad or you're just

[05:58] going to have to play something else

[05:59] this this next question is going to

[06:00] drastically affect your choice and that

[06:02] is going to be simply are you someone

[06:04] that plays this game by yourself or are

[06:06] you in a guild or just have a group of

[06:08] friends that you play the game with the

[06:09] reason why I say this is because if you

[06:11] are a solo player you're going to be at

[06:13] the mercy of player perception a lot

[06:15] more than you would if you're playing

[06:16] with a group of friends and what I mean

[06:18] by this is that you're going to have a

[06:20] really rough time if you're playing a

[06:22] class in Spec that a lot of people or

[06:25] the player perception is sucks so for

[06:27] example if people think that in enement

[06:29] shamans are terrible you're probably

[06:31] going to have a really hard time getting

[06:32] invited to any groups if you're playing

[06:34] an Enhancement Shaman and then on the

[06:35] other side if you are part of a guild or

[06:38] you've got a group of friends that you

[06:39] guys play the game with regularly who

[06:40] cares what the player perception is

[06:42] because your friends are going to invite

[06:43] you because you're their friend so now

[06:46] it's time for me to give you guys my

[06:47] recommendations of what I think are

[06:49] going to be really good picks going into

[06:51] the war within regardless of balance

[06:53] tuning now as a quick disclaimer I just

[06:55] want to remind you guys my choices are

[06:58] not based off of DPS or performance or

[07:00] anything like that my choices are simply

[07:02] what I think are fun approachable and

[07:05] very versatile picks that you guys can

[07:07] play and have a really good time with so

[07:09] starting off with tanks my first pick

[07:11] here is going to be the mountain thing

[07:13] protection Warrior mainly because I just

[07:15] really like the aesthetic of the

[07:16] Mountain King from Warcraft 3 so it's

[07:18] really cool that they're bringing that

[07:19] back into the game and also the

[07:21] playaround Thunderclap is really good

[07:24] prop Warriors are just generally overall

[07:25] really good tanks when it comes to

[07:27] taking and absorbing damage so you

[07:29] really really can't go wrong here my

[07:30] next pick is going to be the San Lane

[07:32] blood death knight mainly because I feel

[07:35] like with blood death Knights they're

[07:36] just really good at self-healing even

[07:39] though they just got a massive Nerf to

[07:40] that with that last patch but I do think

[07:42] the whole idea of a blood death knight

[07:45] SL vampire kind of thing fits really

[07:47] well with the blood DK and I feel like

[07:49] it's just going to have a ton of even

[07:50] more self-healing than it has before

[07:52] plus blood dks are really easy to play

[07:55] and death grip is just so good to have

[07:57] my last pick for the recommendation for

[07:59] tanking is going to be the Druid of the

[08:01] claw Guardian Druid mainly because I

[08:03] think the improvements with the shape

[08:04] shifting is going to be really good and

[08:06] I think it's just going to flow really

[08:07] well with Guardian Druid in general plus

[08:09] Guardian Druid is just really easy to

[08:11] play for our DPS picks I'm going to go

[08:13] with the Arcane Mage specifically the

[08:15] Spells Slinger mainly because Arcane

[08:18] recently just got a massive rework the

[08:20] spec in general is just a lot easier to

[08:22] play now and the actual like play style

[08:24] is really fun it's really Snappy and

[08:27] it's actually the spec that I'm going to

[08:29] be remaining in the war within my next

[08:31] pick is going to go with the Riders of

[08:33] the Apocalypse on holy death knight and

[08:35] I really don't feel like I need to

[08:36] explain why I mean having mounted combat

[08:39] out in the world is really cool just the

[08:40] overall theme of this hero Talent is

[08:43] just insanely cool and also Unholy death

[08:45] Knights have historically been in a

[08:47] really good spot and then for my last

[08:49] pick for DPS I'm going to go with the

[08:50] Templar red Paladin the aesthetic of

[08:52] Templar red paladins is just really cool

[08:54] in general you're just bringing down

[08:56] these Hammers and I think the play style

[08:58] is going to be really fun to play it's

[09:00] really easy and I think it's going to do

[09:02] really well for healers the first one

[09:04] I'm going to go with is going to be the

[09:05] restoration Shaman specifically totemic

[09:08] I think the new totems that it's going

[09:10] to bring to the table are really cool

[09:12] and it also looks like they're kind of

[09:13] going back to the whole chain heel play

[09:15] style for that healer which I thought

[09:17] was probably one of the most fun ways to

[09:19] play A Healer and then also they're

[09:20] bringing Sky Fury which is a brand new

[09:22] raid buff for Shaman for my next pick

[09:25] I'm going to go with the lightsmith Holy

[09:26] Paladin mainly because holy paladins are

[09:29] just one of those picks that are always

[09:30] in the group you know when you go to a

[09:32] raid you always have a Holy Paladin

[09:34] there so they pretty much are guaranteed

[09:36] a spot because of their kit and also I

[09:38] know that lightsmith has been struggling

[09:40] recently I know the player perception on

[09:42] the forms has been kind of mixed but

[09:44] hopefully they can iron that down and

[09:46] make it a lot better and then my last

[09:48] pick for the healer is just pure out of

[09:50] nostalgia and that's going to be the

[09:51] keeper of the grow of Restoration Druid

[09:53] mainly because I personally am a

[09:55] Warcraft 3 player or was and the whole

[09:57] idea of a you know Keeper of the Grove

[09:59] coming to the game is really cool I'm

[10:00] really interested to see what the

[10:02] treants are going to be like for the

[10:03] Healer but in general just having some

[10:05] Triant out when you're healing is going

[10:06] to be just really cool to see now that

[10:08] you guys have a couple of

[10:09] recommendations to look at when you're

[10:11] trying to pick your main why don't you
