Orb wins Best Anime You Didn't Watch. The host clarifies the category is for anime voters didn't watch but heard hyped, and Orb fits that description.
K-pop Demon Hunters wins Best Yes This is Anime. The host notes it's a 'big movie' with 'fun character animation' and a 'good story'.
May I Ask for One Final Thing wins Best Trash. The host praises it as 'girl trash' and a 'great power fantasy' with satisfying action.
Okarun from Dandadan wins Best Protagonist. The host notes Momo won last year, so Okarun getting the award this year is fair.
Ponco from Apocalypse Hotel wins Best Supporting Character. The host considers Ponco a co-protagonist but is happy to see her get recognition.
Reze from Chainsaw Man wins Best Villain. The host would have chosen Terranitza or Noak, but acknowledges Reze is a compelling character.
Chainsaw Man the Movie wins Best Anime Film. The host prefers 100 Meters but calls Chainsaw Man an 'excellent adaptation' and a 'nine out of 10'.
Dandadan Season 2 wins Anime of the Year. The host, who would have picked Apocalypse Hotel, acknowledges Dandadan's popularity and calls it a 'very good' show.
The 2025 Mother's Basement Community Anime Awards celebrated a wide range of anime, with Dandadan Season 2 taking the top prize. The host encourages viewers to join the Discord for future awards and to watch Apocalypse Hotel.

[03:39] just one second. Uh, that that that badass song ran out just a little faster than I wanted it to. Um, I'm just uh updating the thumbnail on YouTube.com so that uh
[04:02] be like, "Oh, it's not the random stream starting screen. How's it going starting screen. How's it going everybody? Good to see you.
[04:17] Ulissian SJ. Okay. Um Okay. Or I I assume Ulysian, not Okay. Or I I assume Ulysian, not Yulissan. Could be Yulishan. Yulissan. Could be Yulishan. Um,
[04:32] uh putting this whole thing together, editing the videos, etc., etc. Everybody say thank you to Trey. We would not be having this wonderful community night having this wonderful community night without them. Um,
[04:52] let me just I got to put out the announcement on on twitter.com.
[05:13] little while ago, but I had to I had to get the the stream working. get the the stream working. Um,
[05:31] Mother's Basement Community Awards right now.
[06:05] The tweet is out. We're in this. Uh, have I seen the Chaotics case files? I have not, but that sounds uh f Is that like um Knuckles Chaotics guys doing uh detective stuff? because that sounds
[06:21] detective stuff? because that sounds that sounds like a real good time. Um, Mario Galaxy movie where the Mario Bros. visit the Sand Kingdom? Um, I've seen
[06:33] like trailers for it and I think I've seen posters. Uh, I mean I like that kingdom in Mario Odyssey, so I'm like not unenthused about big screening it,
[06:45] but like I am generally unenthused about the entire Mario movie project as anything more than like jangling keys for kids and
[06:58] for kids and men my age who uh men my age who uh aren't getting enough out of life. Um,
[07:11] some women who aren't getting enough out of life who um want to just watch uh bad video game cutscenes from the Minions team for an hour and a half instead of a
[07:23] team for an hour and a half instead of a real movie. But, um wow. I'm just I'm just I did not expect to be going this I did not expect to be going this hostile on those movies this fast. Um,
[07:43] the duba for Zyo and sentenced to be a hero is really damn good. I got to watch that dub. Um, I've been a little bit behind because I was like, "Oh, I'm going to watch I'm going to catch up on Stranger Things. Do a review of Stranger
[07:55] Stranger Things all those years ago." Uh, Lightful, thank you for resubbing
[08:09] or Lightfoot. Um, and Fonza Gamer, thank you for the new sub. gifted 24 or or no, no, did 24 times. Okay, I I'm
[08:22] or or no, no, did 24 times. Okay, I I'm I'm still I don't Twitch enough. Um, but yeah, Kiscaloo, thank you for resubbing for 24 months in a row. That's uh that's for 24 months in a row. That's uh that's two years.
[08:45] Mario's never come close to touching the hold Minions has over that generation.
[08:57] that might be just you. I don't know. Like uh little. It's already maxed out on on
[09:10] It's already maxed out on on uh OBS, but um that better. Okay. All right. Yeah, I think it's just you might have your audio settings a little low. have your audio settings a little low. Um,
[09:32] the Mario movie, no matter how much I frankly think it deserves it. Um, or to frankly think it deserves it. Um, or to [\h__\h] on Stranger Things, even though
[09:47] have enough opinions to make a a video about it. Unfortunately, I'm like I'm in this awkward space where I've spent a lot of time watching a show and and thinking about why it's bad, but it really boils down to um any horror
[10:04] franchise gets bad when you demystify it. And when you spend eight hours per installment or more demystifying it, that only makes it worse. And when you cast kids when they're like what like like 13 14 um and then half of those
[10:22] kids do not learn to be better actors for the next decade. It kind of hamstrings what you can do storytelling wise. Um that and don't make Eldrich entities
[10:37] don't make Eldrich entities just a guy. I feel like that's um that's maybe Anyway, those we're not here for my opinions on Stranger Things. I'm just uh sort of rattling them off right now to give people time to come in before we
[10:51] to give people time to come in before we start announcing the awards. Um basically the same thing. You know, the funny thing is if you had said that when
[11:04] out, I would have said that's ridiculous. It's so much better. But by ridiculous. It's so much better. But by now, yeah, [laughter] Gits hoodie is sick. Thank you. Uh yeah, I got this at the Ghost in the Shell um
[11:19] exhibition that's going on at Tokyo Node right now. Um I'm going to have a a short up about it in the next day or so. So, uh that might be on on Basement Life. I'm not sure where the best place to put it
[11:35] is, but uh you'll you'll see a lot of cool stuff there. I got some really cool cool stuff there. I got some really cool stuff at the event. Um and if you tune in to not this quest for the best, but the next Quest for the best, you will
[11:49] see an even sicker Ghost in the Shell sweater. Um, sweater. Um, Robin Barbosa, thank you for the prime. I'm not sure if I'm Yeah, whatever. Uh,
[12:07] Nukitashi Anime of the Year. I agree. We We'll see if the uh uh Mother's Basement Discord agrees, but um even though I gave anime of the year to even though I gave anime of the year to Apocalypse Hotel, I agree.
[12:24] pinned message, Trey, can you send that to me on Discord? Um,
[12:36] I want to thank you and everybody here, thank Piro for putting together the slideshow and the voting for the awards this year. Um, this is not just, you know, Mother's Basement staff. This is a community effort. Um, this could not
[12:52] have happened without all the cool folks in our Discord. And if you're not part of the Discord, join the Discord next year. You can contribute to these year. You can contribute to these awards. Um,
[13:10] was ready for it 30 minutes before, then somehow forgot about it. No, you didn't starting. We're just starting right now. Um, Mora Stry, I hope I'm
[13:25] we get a [\h__\h] ice before I leave to get food? Hell yeah. [\h__\h] Ice. Um, godamn Gestapo. Actually, that's not uh their uh brown shirts at best, but [\h__\h]
[13:41] their uh brown shirts at best, but [\h__\h] ICE. Um, actually just dropped a Quest for the best episode about Orb. So, when you're
[13:55] done here, if you're an Orb fan, you should go or wait, no, it's dropping. It's dropping tomorrow. So, it if you're an Orb fan, go subscribe to youtube.comquest fortheest. Quest for the best on
[14:09] fortheest. Quest for the best on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, etc., etc. Um, watch the best anime of all time, create a list of the top 100 best anime of all a list of the top 100 best anime of all time, and we did an episode on Orb um
[14:24] with uh Zach from the One Piece podcast. So, uh it's a real good episode. You should go sub to that and it'll it'll drop tomorrow and you'll be able to see drop tomorrow and you'll be able to see us talk about Orb. Um,
[14:44] glad we're getting a good round of [\h__\h] ISIS in chat.
[14:56] week, we'd be waiting a while for orb. Yeah. Um, no, it just felt right to do them both back to back. Uh maybe we should have gotten Gar. I don't know. Um should have gotten Gar. I don't know. Um but uh Zach wanted to do it so we uh
[15:11] but uh Zach wanted to do it so we uh brought him on. Um and Gar's got other brought him on. Um and Gar's got other favorite anime. through it because we're going to have a lot to talk about with these awards.
[15:27] lot to talk about with these awards. Um,
[15:43] Um, am I caught up with Trails Beyond the Horizon? Not even close. Uh, I'm I'm finally getting to the Crossbell games right now. I I I I I was like kind of all over the place with Trails and now I'm I'm
[15:57] going through it in mostly linear order whilst waiting for the second remake of whilst waiting for the second remake of uh or the the chapter 2 remake to drop. uh or the the chapter 2 remake to drop. Um,
[16:17] going through these awards because there's going to be a lot to talk about.
[16:29] best new character, best isekai or fantasy, best action, best comedy, best slice of life, best drama, best fight or action scene, best OP, best ED, best OST, best original voice performance, best dub voice performance, best anime,
[16:46] you didn't watch, best yes, this is anime, best trash, yes, best trash, Best protagonist, best supporting character, best villain, best anime film, and
[16:58] best villain, best anime film, and finally, anime of the year, the Chapter 2 remakes being made with AI. Um, in what way? Uh, like I I I'm
[17:11] AI. Um, in what way? Uh, like I I I'm just uh like I'm I I am curious. I felt like there might have been some AI textures in the first remake. Um, but uh
[17:27] textures looked like they might have been ripped from the original um like pre-rendered environments and then
[17:39] like pre-rendered environments and then upscaled. in the future? Not now, but later. It's all right, but
[17:55] bores me and I won't it won't replace Sailor Moon. Probably not, honestly. Like like maybe if I do like I remember Wedding Peach being advertised in manga magazines way back in the day, but I'm not uh
[18:10] yeah, I'm not sure. Falcom said they're doubling down on AI development, so I don't know to what extent. That's a huge disappointment. Um, that sucks. I love
[18:22] Falcom, so that really sucks. Yeah, I know it's I know it's a full remake. I know it's not an upscale, but like that's the only place that I can think of that AI might have been used. taking the original textures from the
[18:37] pre-rendered environments that they had and upscaling those to use in the current 3D environments so that it's like visually consistent. That's the only thing I can think of. Falcom and Syame falling off. Yeah,
[18:54] Syame falling off. Yeah, [\h__\h] generative AI. That is correct. [\h__\h] I announced this yesterday. He should No, that's fine. Um, hope he's
[19:09] having a good time. If somebody is in both chats, he can say hi to him.
[19:22] Crest, Banner of the Stars, maybe someday. Um,
[19:34] stuff at the current size. All right, we'll we'll scale down a little, I we'll we'll scale down a little, I guess. just the best time to stream if you are in Japan. Um,
[19:50] anyway, best new character. We're moving on to the awards and the nominees are uh on to the awards and the nominees are uh Oh, man. Um, yeah. Next time, format
[20:02] this so there is space. What the hell? Why is the I'm casting so much shadow on Why is the I'm casting so much shadow on the green screen. One sec. One sec. the green screen. One sec. One sec. Let's see if
[20:24] this thing. Okay. And then if we just do that. Still Okay. And then if we just do that. Still a little muddy, but it works.
[20:37] Oh, that's going to bother me. I'm sorry. I I uh should have tested the other frames of the thing, but I didn't want to spoil myself on the awards. want to spoil myself on the awards. Um, let's see. It goes filter.
[21:14] hoodie getting got, but I that should be better, I think. better, I think. Don't want to crank up the smoothness.
[21:33] get, I think. Sorry if the seam here bugs anybody. It's bugging me, but that's what we do. All right, that's what we do. Okay, so the nominees for best new character are Jabberwonger
[21:49] for best new character are Jabberwonger from Gachiakuta, Hiro Nazco from Zenshu, Hikaru from The Summer Hikaru Died, Scarlett El Vanmian from May I ask for one final thing, Monica Everett from Secrets of the Silent Witch, Yachio from
[22:05] Secrets of the Silent Witch, Yachio from Apocalypse Hotel, and Amate Amate Yuzuriha Machu from Mobile Suit Gun. Gandom Gquax
[22:19] hero say so obnoxious. Yeah, but I mean that's what makes her likable. Um, so I mean this is a tough category right off the bat, right? Like cuz you know Scarlet I feel is kind of the best character overall here just because um
[22:35] I mean I'm weak to aura farming especially when it is from a gorgeous woman who I would let murder me. Um but also just absolutely fantastic personality, carries the show. You Yachio's great too. Um you know, Hikaru,
[22:52] characters who carry their shows to some extent. Monica's also really good. Um but like Scarlet's my pick just because she's such a delight. Um,
[23:12] Saying Zenshu is overrated. [snorts] Uh, Zenshu is a beautiful celebration of anything or of everything that makes anime amazing. Um, anime amazing. Um, yeah, just uh, I love that show. Um
[23:29] but yeah, One Punch Villainess uh is my pick. pick. um seen a lot of wins for Yachio and uh
[23:49] really won last year and it makes it all the more sad that they apparently the more sad that they apparently decided to um sell out like they did.
[24:03] Witch. Zenshu is underrated. I agree. Um, Zenshu is underrated. I agree. Um, Jabber better than uh Jabber was an experience but not my top for uh Gachiaka. I kind of agree like
[24:19] characters. I don't know if I'd necessarily pick Jabber out of them. Um,
[24:36] think a lot of people really liked it, but um, yeah, I don't know. but um, yeah, I don't know. But the best new character winner is But the best new character winner is Scarlet. Good choice. Good choice, chat.
[24:50] Um, literally was chat, actually. Uh, good choice, Discord. You You picked good first time. Um, we're now one for one with things I also would have picked. So, um,
[25:06] picked. So, um, good job. Let's keep moving. Best isekai fantasy. Uh, and we're seeing a lot of familiar faces here. Um, a lot of good picks, too. Uh, up for grabs or up for the award. I I'm going to drink more
[25:23] the award. I I'm going to drink more coffee. I'm I'm still tired. it got got by the green screen. These Mount Reineer coffees are real good.
[25:37] Mount Reineer coffees are real good. I can use that to to to show what's behind me instead of just moving. instead of just moving. All right. So, the nominees for best
[25:50] isekai/fantasy are Zenshu, Clevitess, Secrets of the Silent Witch, may I ask for one final thing, Shangria Frontier season 2, Gachiakuta, I'm the evil lord of an intergalactic empire, and from
[26:07] bureaucrat to villainess, dad's been reincarnated. And like, there's a lot of really good options here. I'm obviously I think partial to here. I'm obviously I think partial to Zenhu out of them, you know, like it's
[26:21] Zenhu out of them, you know, like it's it's such a beautiful fantasy world. Like I would watch the original anime, the the unsuccessful anime movie within the the unsuccessful anime movie within the show of Zenu. Um I'm I'm
[26:37] as enthused about that as I am the show itself. It's just such a a cool fake itself. It's just such a a cool fake anime that I wish I could watch. Um,
[26:54] Piece. Um, you should definitely skull and you should definitely skull and crossbone emoji on a flag. Um, don't don't feel too conflicted about it.
[27:15] use torance instead of streams. That's uh I was trying to think of a clever way to say it, but yeah. No, just just torrent stuff. It's it's more um torrent stuff. It's it's more um community-minded and also safer. Um
[27:37] I've seen in years. That's That's fair. It is. It is dope. Although saying that that does that count as a spoiler? I guess you know people like might think guess you know people like might think that whatever. Um me asking if it counts
[27:52] as a spoiler. Definitely counts as a spoiler. Um yeah, out of these I'd give it to Zenu. I think May I ask for one final thing or no? Clevitess. Clevitess is second, but like it's pretty close with May I ask for one final thing.
[28:07] with May I ask for one final thing. They're both real bangers. Um,
[28:26] We'll have to have Beatreak on next awards um once it's all finished uh because it deserves uh some kind of spot. Anyway, the award for the best
[28:39] isekai/fantasy anime of 2025 goes to Zenshu two for two right now. We're Zenshu two for two right now. We're we're we're really vibing here. Um
[28:53] I mean my awards did come out sooner, so I probably influenced quite a lot of people on there. Um I gotta finish Turkey. I watched like only the first couple episodes and then I like fell off it which is why I forgot to mention it
[29:08] it which is why I forgot to mention it in the awards. Um but like I feel like I should watch more of it. It seemed really cool. I just uh I mean you get too busy to watch all of the anime even when your job is watching
[29:23] anime. It's how it be. Bon actually maybe should have been up. I mean maybe should have been up. I mean what were the nominees? Um, I don't know if I'd necessarily say Bon deserves a spot over any of these. Uh,
[29:40] their own right. I really like I'm the evil lord of an intergalactic empire. That's like uh low-key low-key hidden gem of the summer season. Um,
[29:54] very very fun show. Hope we see more of it in these awards. it in these awards. um
[30:06] four episodes made it 100% worth it versus got seven episodes in and then got bored. Really sounds like unbious if you combine those two uh messages. Really sounds like he dug all his way to the all the way to the diamonds and then
[30:22] the all the way to the diamonds and then turned around. Um, but uh, yeah, I don't know. I There's so many anime last year that were so good. Um,
[30:36] might actually be the best year in anime history. Uh, let's move on though to best action, which again we've got a lot of really
[30:48] which again we've got a lot of really good contenders for. Um, Tubi Hero X, Gachi Akuta, Mobile Suit Gundam Gquex once again, Shangria Frontier season 2 once again, Heroaka Final Season, Solo Leveling
[31:03] Heroaka Final Season, Solo Leveling Season two, and Dondon season two. I'll I'll move up so you can you can see Dondon right there. Um,
[31:23] If if any of if there is any war award that it might deserve, I'd say it's this one. Although, you know, as good as all of these are,
[31:35] you know, as good as all of these are, like especially Dondon and Gachiakuta, um it's it's really hard to argue anything but to be Hero X. Um like
[31:47] anything but to be Hero X. Um like to the the action scenes specifically in to the the action scenes specifically in that show are just that show are just unbelievably good. Um, like Gachiakuta I
[31:59] feel has a more compelling power system and and some more like and and some more like interesting fight setups. Um, and you know, Dond Don I mean Dond Don's just a blast. Shangrila Frontier also I think
[32:13] blast. Shangrila Frontier also I think you know like is the most fun I've had watching someone else play a video game. Um,
[32:27] put it over solo leveling. I haven't watched My Hero Academia's final season yet, so uh that could be deserving. And and you know, the action in Gquax is and you know, the action in Gquax is also really good. But um yeah, I I got
[32:41] also really good. But um yeah, I I got to give it to TB Hero X. to give it to TB Hero X. It's just like
[32:53] art. Um one of the best shows of last year and the action was the best part. leveling. I remember being like, "Yeah, but I
[33:09] don't really remember any of the choreography beats of any of the fight choreography beats of any of the fight scenes the way that I remember um scenes the way that I remember um you know, the the the the
[33:23] run through the orphanage at the end of uh uh gosh, I'm I'm so bad with character names. uh the the singer character in 2BX. Um and uh I mean like just the the action
[33:41] scene that kicks off or or that closes off every single arc of 2B Hero X. There's not a single bad action scene in it. Um but Shangria Frontier deserves
[33:54] more love. And I actually, you know, the more I think about it that if if I was going to give this to anything else, it's probably be Shangriila. But we'll see, you know, because I, you know, Dond Don and Gachiakuta are really good, but
[34:08] I don't necessarily think that they are carried by their action in the same way. But let's find out the best action winner for 2025 is Dond
[34:22] Don season two. Not a bad choice. um you know like um you know like I think there were four um real contenders there. Maybe five. Again, I got to catch up on Hiokaka. But um yeah,
[34:38] I mean Dad Don was high patell the death worm worm arc was really really well done. Um, and oh man, the the the training scene in the uh in the music
[34:57] room where they're they're fighting all the composers is a work of art as action goes. Plus the kaiju battle like it definitely had good variety, right? I definitely had good variety, right? I just for me the the sum total of Dond
[35:12] Don is the characters, the comedy um and everything. Uh, but it's definitely a deserving winner.
[35:27] 2B HeroEx. Um, yeah, the M music room battle is yeah, the M music room battle is incredible.
[35:45] have some real good contenders this year. Uh, Apocalypse Hotel, City the Animation, Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess, Spy Family season 3, May I ask for one final thing,
[36:00] 100 Girlfriends season 2, and Panty and Stocking with Garter Belt. Um, I, you know, it's really hard for me to to
[36:14] single any one thing out here. Like obviously Apocalypse Hotel was my anime of the year, so I lean in that direction. But Hundred Girlfriends is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Just just across the board
[36:30] seen. Just just across the board hilarious. City the animation is a unique delight. And like even though I'm not super enamored with its sense of humor
[36:44] specifically, um I think it's the most beautifully um I think it's the most beautifully animated anime maybe of all time. Like I know that sounds hyperbolic, but in terms of animation direction,
[37:00] right, the specific craft of making every single piece of the animated world feel completely cohesive. I don't think that completely cohesive. I don't think that any other show has done it better. And
[37:15] when we get to best animation, that's the clear winner. here though. I think it's Hundred Girlfriends, Apocalypse Hotel, and Panty and Stalking. Um,
[37:28] contenders. Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess didn't Reincarnated Villainess didn't necessarily have me laughing out loud that often, but when it did, it really hit. Um, and I think the cleverness of
[37:44] the premise really uh deserves praise. It's like the most conceptually funny show here where if you just like think about any given thing in it, it's just like um whereas uh may I ask for one
[38:00] final thing? I mean, it's it's often got the same punchline, and the punchline is incredible violence, but um it's a very good punchline that works a lot of the time. And you know, Spy
[38:15] Family is always good, but like Panty and Stocking, 100 Girlfriends, and Apocalypse Hotel really stand out for me as the top tier. Um was Trillion Game this year? Because yeah, Trillion Game definitely deserved
[38:29] it. Um, not My Dress Up Darling season uh two. Um, yeah, I wouldn't pick that for comedy is the thing. Like I don't think it's the funniest show. I think that it's it really shines as a romance. Um,
[38:47] it's it really shines as a romance. Um, and a slice of life. Oh, yeah. You know what? Bureaucrat to villainess belongs on here. That's that's that's a really unfortunate omission. That is a
[39:01] a really unfortunate omission. That is a very very funny show. Um, but now it's time to see what the winner is. And that winner is Panty and
[39:15] Stocking with Garter Belt. Sorry, small correction. It should be new Panty and correction. It should be new Panty and Stocking with Garter Belt. Um,
[39:27] Konosuba. Yeah, I got to I got to catch up on Let This This Grieving Soul Retire. Um, because it it seems really underrated to me. Um, like every bit of it that I watched was hilarious. But, uh, you know what else
[39:42] really belongs here and arguably in best action? um season two of uh reincarnated as the seventh prince, so I might as well spend my time mastering
[39:56] magic. I I I definitely lost a word or two from that definitely lost a word or two from that light novel title, but um that one very light novel title, but um that one very funny, very good action, deserves some
[40:09] respect for that. Um, dress up darling made me laugh the hardest. Probably because I was a cosplayer and it's so relatable. I mean, I'm, you know, I I I relatable. I mean, I'm, you know, I I I was, uh, a cosplay husband for quite a
[40:24] was, uh, a cosplay husband for quite a few years at Con. So, uh, and probably will be again in the future. So, I also find that very funny. Um, it's just uh there's other parts of Dress Up Darling that I think uh hit
[40:39] Dress Up Darling that I think uh hit harder for me. And you know, these are Apocalypse Hotel and and Panny and Stocking and 100 Girlfriends are just Stocking and 100 Girlfriends are just way funnier.
[40:57] Unfortunately, the AI subtitles for episode one just uh killed all of its chances, you know. Actually, I I feel like I
[41:09] would have put um Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire up for best comedy, Intergalactic Empire up for best comedy, too, cuz like some of the jokes in that uh in that show just hit so beautifully. Um,
[41:26] but we're moving on to best slice of life and there's only five nominees which I feel I feel like catch catch you at the ballpark could have made it on at the ballpark could have made it on here too. Um,
[41:44] trying to think what else. And mono mono is a really really big omission from this. Uh, sorry, no offense to the Discord. Um, if if you know, obviously I Discord. Um, if if you know, obviously I didn't push Mono nearly hard enough. Uh,
[41:58] I watched only the first episode of Necronomico. Um, Necronomico. Um, it was just like after watching the AI subbed version, I I just didn't stick in my mind enough for me to want to go
[42:12] in my mind enough for me to want to go back and give it a shot. Um,
[42:28] yeah. All right, we got to keep going. All right. Uh, City, the Animation, My Dress Up, Darling Season 2, Rory Rocks. See you at the See you tomorrow at the food court and Apocalypse Hotel are our nominees for best slice of life.
[42:43] And personally out of these ones, like I'd give it to Mono. I think Mono probably is the best slice of life of the year overall for specifically slice of lifeiness. Um
[42:58] although yeah, I like out of these I'd say Dress Up Darling or Rury Rocks are both really good contenders. Um and and City is too. uh like Apocalypse
[43:13] and and City is too. uh like Apocalypse Hotel. doesn't fit that exactly in my mind. Um but yeah, I'm I'm I'm saying Dress Up that in as mine. Although I wouldn't be upset to see Rory Rocks, but the winner
[43:31] is Dress Up Darling season two. fave. Yeah. No, that's uh where do you draw the line between slice
[43:46] of life and workplace comedy? I workplace comedy is a subcategory of workplace comedy is a subcategory of slice of life generally unless um it's like really over the top then it can you know.
[44:01] No, actually, no. I Yeah, it's always a slice of life subg genre. Like even in the case of like Tonagawa's middle management blues, that is slice of life. Um, no matter how ridiculous the job gets. Um, work life comedy. Yeah, it's a
[44:17] gets. Um, work life comedy. Yeah, it's a subgenre. though. Yeah, I think everyone agrees this is a fair win. Um, oh yeah, Sora this is a fair win. Um, oh yeah, Sora utility. I completely forgot about that
[44:32] one by the end of the year. Um, which is a shame because I'm I'm pretty golfilled as an anime fan at this point, you know, like I I Birdie Wing really got me on board for any and all anime golfing. But, uh,
[44:50] now we got to look at the, uh, nominees for best drama. And we got again really strong ones. Apothecary Diaries season two, Taco P's Original Sin Mobile Suit
[45:02] two, Taco P's Original Sin Mobile Suit Gundam Gquax Noia and Orb on the Movements of the Earth. I'm trying to think if there's anything that like feels noticeably missing.
[45:15] Um, I keep forgetting that Rascal uh dropped last year. I still haven't watched the new season because um I I was at home
[45:27] came out and we wanted to watch it together and also we've still got to watch the movies. Um summer Hikadu died I think arguably deserves to be in here because I don't think there was a horror category. Um
[45:43] but like it's really hard to argue anything but Orb for this specific anything but Orb for this specific category. Like Orb is generationally good. Tak's Original Sin is really good
[45:56] from like a directing standpoint and an acting standpoint, but like I feel like there are fundamental flaws with how it's written that hold it back. with how it's written that hold it back. Um,
[46:12] year, I think it's got interesting year, I think it's got interesting things to say. I just also like things to say. I just also like it's not on orbs level
[46:26] on that level, but those are the those are the two. But um yeah, Orb I think is the winner. I'd be surprised if it was anything but Orb. And I'm surprised it's actually Apothecary Diaries. Good choice. Um
[46:48] in fact MOMU. Um I tried getting Gquax on so many categories, but this wasn't one of them. [laughter]
[47:02] the best title choice I've seen in a long time. Uh I I don't know why I don't know what what Ketzer means in uh German, but you know, I assume that there's some good word play going on. Um
[47:16] interesting thing about Orb is the the Japanese title chi also means truth in Japanese. So there's like word play inherent to that. But um we're not
[47:29] talking about orb right now. We're talking about Apothecary Apothecary Diaries season 2. I got to remember where I am relative
[47:43] to the rest of the thing. You know what? We should just uh we should just swap the uh where the windows are and then when I point to it, I'll be pointing in the right direction. I'm a genius.
[48:07] Oh, we got we got some super chats that I did not get notified about. All right, let's go through those real fast. Uh Gareth of Bzantium said, "Hey, Jeff, have a good stream." Thank you very much, my man. Good to see you on here
[48:24] much, my man. Good to see you on here again. Um and 2B Hero X. So, thank you for, you know, just coming out to support and everything. Um, you the man. And then Layman Nation uh eight minutes ago said,
[48:38] "Is this best anime that's also a comedy or best anime at doing comedy?" I would uh I would define it as best anime at doing comedy personally, but I don't know. You know that's with community awards like these
[48:55] that's with community awards like these that is ultimately up to the uh person doing the nominations or person doing the voting you know right like uh to decide. So, um,
[49:11] to decide. So, um, you know, I I I I on what made people laugh the hardest, but it's hard to say. Um,
[49:32] you know, I actually might put that. Yeah, we'll put the activity feed at the top there. That that works better. All top there. That that works better. All right,
[49:48] next up we've got best fight slashaction scene, which I guess that makes sense to separate it. Um, and uh there's a lot of really good contenders here. Uh, Sun Jin Wu versus the Ant King um was definitely hype
[50:03] Pandora, so there's no arguing there. Scarlet ver versus Terranetsa from May I ask for one final thing. Excellent choice. Bakugo versus All for One. Can't really comment on it because I'm not uh
[50:18] not caught up, but um I would I would assume it kicked a lot of ass. I I saw a lot of people talking about it on twitter.com. I think I saw some clips of it and was like, "Hell yeah, that looks pretty good." Um,
[50:32] pretty good." Um, Denji and Beam versus Res and Typhoon from Chainsaw Man the movie. Uh, excellent scene. Definitely the best part of that movie. So, um, and you know, it's a really good movie. So,
[50:45] know, it's a really good movie. So, that's uh I I wouldn't argue with that choice. Rudo versus Jabber in Gachiakuta. Gachiakuta. Also, um, very very cool early fight
[50:58] Also, um, very very cool early fight scene. Um, time they fight in the underground parking garage because that uh kicks all
[51:14] kinds of ass. Really really great um exploration of the power system while also doing clever things with it. Like, you know, it's it's such a good shonen
[51:26] battle series. I I Gachiakuta deserves a lot of props. Um, Machu and Nan versus Shuji from Gundam Gquax. I need to finish Gquax. Um, so I
[51:38] Gquax. I need to finish Gquax. Um, so I haven't seen that fight. Um, summer and not being able to watch stuff with Yazzy as much as I wanted to. And
[51:51] then it's not really Gigi versus Ocaroon. It's it's um the the evil eye versus Okaroon, but um that was a good fight. Uh
[52:09] tempted to put it there. Although, like, if I was doing the best action scene from season two, I would probably give it to season two, I would probably give it to the the music room brawl.
[52:28] [laughter] Ah, is what it is. Uh, you know, we we Ah, is what it is. Uh, you know, we we um
[52:42] it's just a hazard of the job. Um, you know, Denji, the the Chainsaw Man fight is what I expect to win here. Rudo versus Jabber is really clever. Um, and Scarlet versus Terrana is just super satisfying. Um,
[52:58] so I'd be happy with either of those or the Dondon action scene, the Dondon action scene, but we'll see what actually wins it.
[53:13] No wild last boss. Yeah, there's always something. It is hard to decide. Uh best fight slashaction action scene winner is Denji
[53:25] and Beam versus Res and Typhoon. Not surprised. Um, you know, especially with all the motion that this movie got and you that is really the best part of a a you that is really the best part of a a very very good movie. Um,
[53:40] yeah, it welldeserved. That's what I would give it to. Um, yeah, no 2 to 2 Hero X is a real disappointment. Um, if it was on
[53:58] What which fight would I give it to though? Um,
[54:12] the fight in the shipyard, I think. Yeah. Yeah, that one's really good. Um, this fight lasts for 40 minutes, so it's not surprising. Yeah. Um, yeah. No, like
[54:24] it's a it's a good pick. Even if 2B Hero X was on here, if we, you know, having a X was on here, if we, you know, having a movie is kind of unfair. Um,
[54:39] yeah, X versus every there's so many good options in 2B Hero. It's It's just Yeah, I I really don't know what I'd pick. Um,
[54:53] X versus everyone is Yeah, Queen. For me, it's Queen in the Yeah, Queen. For me, it's Queen in the Shipyard. I think it's just so raw. But, um, like there's so many fights in 2B Hero X
[55:07] that really stick in my mind. I'm I am a little sad none of them made it, but little sad none of them made it, but maybe it was the 2B Hero X fans getting atomized across different nominations that caused this.
[55:35] Was it Was it this year? I feel like Daimo was last year. Yeah. No, Daimo was last year. Um, let's move on to best OP, though. And, let's move on to best OP, though. And, uh, we got some interesting ones. Uh,
[55:50] I'm a little disappointed not to see Apocalypse Hotel here. Um, and very disappointed not to see Santa. Uh
[56:02] Uh so our are our uh you know I'm not I won't hate I won't hate and I mean if if if we're just going off song this is I feel like is the award that um uh
[56:19] uh dark history of the reincarnated villainess deserves the most. Um but yeah, what we have is Plasma by Kenshi Yonzu for Gundam Gquax. Very good
[56:31] Yonzu for Gundam Gquax. Very good choice. Um Iris Out by again Kenshi choice. Um Iris Out by again Kenshi um kind of dominating these uh awards which perhaps unsurprising given uh how good
[56:45] perhaps unsurprising given uh how good his music is. Um, Bak Nokawa by Maison his music is. Um, Bak Nokawa by Maison Dez featuring Kobo Kaneeru Kasane and Tetto Giga and Teddy Lloyd for NOAA. That's one I still need to
[57:00] catch up on. Um, because I was like, I want to play the video game version of this and I still haven't done that. Um, but it does seem like a really good anime.
[57:12] Uh, Inertia by Hiroyuki Sawo for 2B Hero X. Definitely a banger. I mean, you X. Definitely a banger. I mean, you know, Sawo is is undeniable. On My Way know, Sawo is is undeniable. On My Way by Aina, uh, The End for Dondon
[57:27] and Watch Me by Yo, uh, from Witchwatch are the choices. Um, yeah, I mean, Call of the season two really deserves a nod here. Um,
[57:42] but yeah, God, for me, I don't know. Like, Apocalypse Hotel, I think, should be on here. Orb, was Orb on last year? I feel like maybe
[57:54] Orb was on last year, and that's why it's not this year, but like Orb really deserves a nod for its OP with how it evolves. Digimon beat Break. I mean, you know, we can't have everything obviously and these are all pretty good choices.
[58:10] and these are all pretty good choices. Um, but like I I didn't watch season two of Shosin, so I can't say. Um, yeah, from these I
[58:23] so I can't say. Um, yeah, from these I think On My Way and Iris Out, I I agree think On My Way and Iris Out, I I agree are the strongest. I I I leaned toward I mean, no, no. Iris Out's really good. Like, it's a banger. And the actual
[58:37] sequence in the movie is really well done, both as like diagetic storytelling within the movie universe and slightly this separate OP sequence. Like, it works well as an OP and as part of the movie, but I mean, the the Dondon OP,
[58:56] movie, but I mean, the the Dondon OP, I was seated every episode. don't think it's the strongest Sono song of all time but it's really good. Um
[59:15] of all time but it's really good. Um and I definitely like sat through it every episode. So you know like I I mean should shouldn't say sat through. That sounds uh negative. I was seated for
[59:29] that OP every episode. My Hero Academia opening. I haven't [laughter] I haven't opening. I haven't [laughter] I haven't watched it. Um Witchwatch OP. Uh the best one was for the anime in the anime.
[59:43] Actually, Dress Up, Darling feels like a big omission here. That that opening was super cute um and really well done. But out of these, I I'm slightly leaning Don to Don, but I would not be upset to see
[1:00:00] Iris out. They're both those are those are both the tops. are both the tops. But the winner is Dond Don. Again, you guys have excellent choice where it matters when it comes to ops, as you
[1:00:14] should, considering where this community started, where we all came up. Um,
[1:00:29] the best pick. Like there's so many good little things in this OP. like when when he's running down the tunnel and like every single villain from the entire series is briefly framed as like a smear on the
[1:00:47] wall of as he's running by for like one frame each cinema. Um it it's a good choice. Uh,
[1:01:05] watched the most. I just really love that like the dance and everything. But that like the dance and everything. But out of these nominees, this one for sure and Yeah. Yeah. The the the visuals are definitely what
[1:01:22] carries it. I wouldn't call the song mid at all. at all. Um, although I don't think it's as good Um, although I don't think it's as good as Iris out. Not quite as catchy.
[1:01:34] as Iris out. Not quite as catchy. Uh, oh, notifications. I got to figure out how to set that up. Jeff E262, thank you for the prime. And, uh, Colin after dark. Jeff, I always look forward to your
[1:01:49] videos. Keep up the great work and the G Morangi's Dark Place references. uh you know ball um yeah I will I will keep up both of um yeah I will I will keep up both of those uh the subtext line is just so
[1:02:04] those uh the subtext line is just so useful in so many places um even if you don't care for the show check out our hotel in humans op uh or check out the hotel in humans op by Imas third place OP of the year I don't think it was on
[1:02:18] OP of the year I don't think it was on the first episode so I didn't see it um the first episode so I didn't see it um or I don't remember it But like I man, Hotel and Humans turned me off hard.
[1:02:33] Hotel and Humans turned me off hard. Like really hard. I the there was one moment of the first episode that I thought was like legitimately so bad it's good.
[1:02:47] um which was a at the end of the first episode when a at the end of the first episode when he like goes to his sister's grave and
[1:02:59] then like there's this whole like he he sees her daughter and there's this whole like psychedelic sequence WHERE HE'S LIKE, "OH, I UNDERSTAND that's my that's LIKE, "OH, I UNDERSTAND that's my that's my niece." And it's it it's so cheesy um
[1:03:13] that like I laughed, but it god that it's just such a clumsy execution of what could have been a really cool show, you know, because it's basically like
[1:03:27] you know, because it's basically like the hotel from uh John Wick as an anime. Um but yeah, I I just I don't know. I I bounced off it the first episode. I'm sorry if you like it. More power to you.
[1:03:42] sorry if you like it. More power to you. But like I was watching it cuz because like I you know you watch so many things.
[1:03:54] Sometimes it's like you get to one show and it's just not working for you. But like episode one I gave me the exact opposite episode one I gave me the exact opposite feelings that it wanted me to feel.
[1:04:07] Uh, okay. Next up is best ED. Um, and uh, yeah, we got really good nominations here. You know what?
[1:04:21] that's that's an omission from the best ops. I think Gachiaka was a real banger. Um, especially the first one. And it had a really good ED, too. So, but not that
[1:04:34] any of these are bad. In fact, all of these are really good. Um, we got Punks these are really good. Um, we got Punks by Chameleon. Uh, lime fy fy pie. Fooi
[1:04:46] by Chameleon. Uh, lime fy fy pie. Fooi pie. Foopy pee. I don't know how to um for One Piece. Uh, so actually, have I seen that? I think I've only seen the OP for Punk for uh
[1:05:00] I've only seen the OP for Punk for uh Punk Hazard uh for um Egghehead. I think I've only seen the OP. I haven't actually watched the ED for it. Um, Ballpark Day Shake. Don't shake by Rurico for Catch Me at the Ballpark.
[1:05:15] Rurico for Catch Me at the Ballpark. That one is a banger and very cute. And um I'm Trey or Wait, no. Who Who put this together? Um,
[1:05:27] Peipo, right? Uh, Pro. right? Uh, Pro. Uh, Piro, um, I do have to I I, you know, thank you so much for putting the votes together and the, um, slideshow.
[1:05:41] You did a lot of work for this, but the 4K 60fps thumbnail, really? Really? I'm kidding. I'm not entirely kidding, but I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
[1:05:53] kidding, but I'm kidding. I'm kidding. Uh um next up, I don't care by Hoshimachi for Mobile Suit Gundam Gqu Quacks. Uh
[1:06:13] yeah, it's a good one. It's definitely a vibe. Um I'm I'm just remembering it and yeah, it's good. Uh, I don't think it stuck with me as much as Delash Teru by stuck with me as much as Delash Teru by warts for Dondon, which um
[1:06:27] might actually be even better than the OP. Like um just such a I mean, it's a vibe. It's a great beat. Um the direction of it is
[1:06:39] really good for like the simpler animation of an ED with the rotating clever way of like summing up the series. Um, the characters little dances really capture their personalities. That's good. Um, Ulu by Hideayuku
[1:06:57] Fukasawa for Noa. It's really feeling like Noa is one of my personal biggest. Should have watched more of its for the year. Um, you know, that's the one I missed out on the most. And last, but certainly not
[1:07:12] least, Kaiwa. Kaiwa by Piki for my dress up darling which um that's my choice. That's that's the one
[1:07:24] that's my choice. That's that's the one I'd pick even above Dasheru which was you know an absolute banger. Just like Kaiwi Kaiwi or Kawawaii Kaiwi what Ka
[1:07:39] Why is my brain not working? Kawawaii Kaiwa um by Piki is just it it gets Kaiwa um by Piki is just it it gets stuck in your brain. Um
[1:07:56] like it became a meme for a reason. Um it's the sequence is super well done. It it it really captures Marin's personality so well. Um, and
[1:08:10] as much as I loved every part of watching uh, Dress Up Darling season 2, it might have been the thing I looked forward to most each episode was just getting into that little jam at the end. You know, it just it it works so well.
[1:08:24] Um, so that's my pick, but we'll see what you picked right now. appreciate it. it it is my second pick. Um, and the
[1:08:42] I do think the sequence is maybe a little bit better directed than Kawaii little bit better directed than Kawaii Kaw Kaiwa. Um,
[1:08:59] references. Um, yeah, Ghost in the Shell's great. Um, yeah, Ghost in the Shell's great. Uh,
[1:09:13] about how popular Dond Don was going to be? You get to say it a lot. I I was like I was concerned. I thought I really thought that it was something that the more casual anime fans would bounce off of compared to solo leveling and the
[1:09:27] like. But, um, it really deserves it. It's It's just an it really deserves it. It's It's just an absolute banger. Um, you know,
[1:09:39] absolute banger. Um, you know, I that applies to both the ED and to the show as a whole. Um, I'm I'm glad that people are picking up what Dond Don's people are picking up what Dond Don's putting down. Uh, Trey, you were right.
[1:09:59] Clevitess's ED doesn't hang here, but damn is it a good it's late um go to sleep song. Yeah. Yeah, I can agree with that. Um, yeah, I, you know, I probably the right pick for the category, even if I, you
[1:10:13] pick for the category, even if I, you know, to me, I feel like the Dress Up Darling one's just a little more iconic overall, but This This ED sure does make me feel a certain something every single time I
[1:10:27] certain something every single time I watch it. So, I'm not mad. the stream? I don't know, man. Um I'm not really paying attention to the numbers, but uh you know, it's late on a Sunday night. Um
[1:10:44] I didn't whip up the best thumbnail for it, so maybe there's more people on I'm more concerned with just getting through the awards and having a good time with my community. That's what that's what really matters to me.
[1:10:59] that's what really matters to me. Um, best OST Um, best OST uh very good uh lineup of uh nominees uh very good uh lineup of uh nominees once again. Um,
[1:11:11] Solo Leveling's got Sino music in it too, right? We got two Sino OSTs this too, right? We got two Sino OSTs this season. Um, yeah, I don't I don't stream that much and I don't I I I I feel like I'm not
[1:11:25] that great at uh riffing live compared to when I've got a script in front of to when I've got a script in front of me. Um,
[1:11:39] you got to be able to [\h__\h] with absolute confidence and never look back. um which is not really my strong suit. I he a little too much. But yeah, the best OST award. Um we got
[1:11:57] Call of Knight season 2, Solo Leveling season 2, 2B Hero X, Mobile Suit Gundam season 2, 2B Hero X, Mobile Suit Gundam Gquex, The Apothecary Diaries season 2, Gquex, The Apothecary Diaries season 2, NOA and Dondadon season 2. All excellent
[1:12:12] NOA and Dondadon season 2. All excellent choices. Um, each of these. That would be uh good. Like I'm I'm leaning Dondon just because
[1:12:29] Like I'm I'm leaning Dondon just because Kenji Kauaii is the goat. Um, and it's a really good soundtrack overall, but like it's reusing a lot of stuff from Dondan season one. So like almost feels like cheating. Um,
[1:12:49] some great music. And I mean, it's riffing on great music, right? You know, like it's it's continuing the legacy of one of the most iconic soundtracks in in Japanese TV history. So, uh, yeah, of course it's
[1:13:05] history. So, uh, yeah, of course it's gonna it's going to work. Um, gonna it's going to work. Um, 2B Hero X is is is banging. Um,
[1:13:21] all right. The Grammys are on right now. Who cares? Uh, music, too. But that feels a little bit less
[1:13:36] It's music we haven't seen in an anime specifically before, right? So yeah, maybe it's cheating. I don't know. Um, Kevin Pankin for the Apothecary Diaries.
[1:13:50] Kevin Pankin for the Apothecary Diaries. Was that Kevin? I'm losing track of all the all the cool stuff he's worked on. Um
[1:14:15] yeah. Uh it was it was him that uh that tracks. [laughter]
[1:14:31] They're doing the rest of Maiden Abyss's movies. That's a really good idea. It um I think that's honestly the best way to handle that story. Uh it des every part of it deserves really good animation. Um
[1:14:46] good animation. Um Typhoon 88, thank you for the prime.
[1:15:01] move on to finding out what the winner is. Um, I can't really decide what I'd give it to. I'm not I don't feel like I have the to. I'm not I don't feel like I have the most refined musical taste. Um, these
[1:15:13] most refined musical taste. Um, these are all good options. So, I I'm I'm happy with it going to any of them. Although,
[1:15:27] season 2. That is the one that I that's the one I I I highlighted. I'm a big Kenji Kauawaii guy, so I'm glad the rest of you agree with my opinion. Um,
[1:15:40] of you agree with my opinion. Um, yeah, good choice. good question. I don't think so.
[1:15:54] Oh, Austin Winery got a Grammy for Sword of the Sea, right? They have they have their game music awards, so that's Oh, wait. Or is Sword of the Sea not they do wait. Or is Sword of the Sea not they do game music for that? They should. Um,
[1:16:09] is Grammys good? Again, I'm not that much of a music guy. Uh, I should be I much of a music guy. Uh, I should be I should get more into music. I I know what I like. I like the my my favorite album right now is is Protomen Act
[1:16:25] Three, which I feel I feel is pretty based, but I I don't listen to enough based, but I I don't listen to enough music to to really form music to to really form super strong opinions about it.
[1:16:41] better. All right, we're on to best original voice performance. Um so the best performance in Japanese um Raina Uea um Raina Uea uh really uh dominating uh dominating
[1:16:56] these nominations um with uh Chainsaw Man Res and Tak's um with uh Chainsaw Man Res and Tak's Original Sin Shizuk. Um very good performances, very different performances, both very worthy of
[1:17:12] praise. Um, Hiroi Nanomi as Rashio in Noa or Ratio. Hiroi Nanomi as Rashio in Noa or Ratio. I'm I gotta watch Noa. Um, Miori
[1:17:24] Shimabukuro as Otoa Kurogane in Rock is a Lady's Modesty. Arisa a Lady's Modesty. Arisa Arisa Oasawara as Panty in Panty and Stocking with Garter Belt. and Sora Amamia as Nazuna Nanakusa or Nan Nazuna
[1:17:42] Nancusa is I feel I feel like it's Nakusa Nakusa whatever uh in Call of the Night. Um
[1:18:01] you guys can tell me if uh if the if if that is spelled incorrectly. I feel like it is, but maybe I'm just misremembering. Um, this is a tough choice for me. I actually I I want to give it to Ottoa
[1:18:18] from Rock is a Lady's Modesty. That's just such a great vocal performance, and I I I really think it's one of the best parts of the entire show. Um,
[1:18:33] okay. Yeah, I'm right. I'm right. I'm not I'm not crazy. Okay, thank you. Uh, And you know, I mean, Panties, Panty's iconic, you know,
[1:18:49] it's I I I'm the only reason I'm less inclined to do Panty is just because inclined to do Panty is just because like for me, the dub is the version of like for me, the dub is the version of Panty and Stalking, right? like it just
[1:19:03] works so well in English. Um, it's so well suited to English that both it's so well suited to English that both the different dubs are good. Um,
[1:19:19] for Amazon Prime like redoing all the voices, but it ended up being great voices, but it ended up being great again. So, yeah. I I don't know. Like I like panty [snorts] and stocking a lot in Japanese.
[1:19:32] [snorts] and stocking a lot in Japanese. I just to me it it English is the way. I just to me it it English is the way. Um pronounced nosia which isn't important but now you know
[1:19:48] why they said something like ah here is the knowledge in the last episode. Oh okay. Um Res's acting was great. Um but yeah, Res's acting was great. Um but yeah, Shizika I I feel like Shizika was more
[1:20:03] of a challenge to perform. But yeah, for me, Otoa I think clears everyone here. Or she Shizuka. Yeah, it is Shizuka, not Shizuk.
[1:20:16] It's, you know, this is a community uh put together slideshow. We can't expect put together slideshow. We can't expect it to be perfect. Um,
[1:20:29] the best original voice performance winner is Res in Chainsaw Man. Fair. you know, I not the one I would Fair. you know, I not the one I would have picked, but um
[1:20:42] probably the predictable choice for like any large group of people is going to gravitate toward um the the you know, the the thing that most people saw and most people felt a certain kind of way about.
[1:20:59] I'm a little, you know, I'm a little sad that there weren't um that there weren't um more men in there. Like I feel like some of the performances from Orb, especially
[1:21:13] especially um Noak, Noak really deserved a spot there. um and 100 meters. But uh yeah, you know, with with acting awards like this, I don't want to say
[1:21:27] popularity contest, but it's it's definitely a exposure matters the most. Um and and it is a good performance. I'm not I'm not saying it's not a good performance. I'm just
[1:21:42] it's not a good performance. I'm just saying like I would give it to her saying like I would give it to her Shizuka over her res, you know? Like I just think that there's more range there.
[1:22:09] You're right. Best dub performance is next and uh we got some really good heavy hitters here again. Um
[1:22:21] I I feel like there's a bias against male actors in these awards which is um male actors in these awards which is um maybe understandable. Uh but uh
[1:22:38] let's just let's just go through the list. Um, first up, Anjali list. Um, first up, Anjali Kuna Panenni as uh Yuri from NOA. Uh,
[1:22:51] good pick. I I I haven't seen that dub. I haven't seen most of these dubs actually, so I can't really comment on this. Um, SIA or Thea Saklati.
[1:23:03] I I definitely just butchered that. Um, Sak Oh, Sakaliti. Thea Sakaliti as uh Amate Yuzerha Machu from Mobile Suit Gundam
[1:23:16] Yuzerha Machu from Mobile Suit Gundam Gquax. Amanda Lee as Marin in My Dress Gquax. Amanda Lee as Marin in My Dress Up Darling. Um YouTuber, always good to see a YouTuber coming up
[1:23:28] getting uh getting props in other fields. Um Lucy Christian as Lilisa and fields. Um Lucy Christian as Lilisa and Rock is Lady's Modesty. Morgan Lowry as uh Scarlet in May I Ask for One Final Thing, Mattaline Morris as Natskco in
[1:23:44] Thing, Mattaline Morris as Natskco in Zenshu, and Zeno Robinson as Jabber in Gachi Akuta. Sorry to sorry to Mike Wazowski you there. Uh Zeno. Um
[1:23:57] again, I haven't watched a lot of these dubs, so it's hard for me to really dubs, so it's hard for me to really speak to any of them. Um, may I did, you know, actually I did watch the May I ask for one final thing
[1:24:10] dub and it was really good. Uh, like it wasn't my default way for watching the wasn't my default way for watching the show, but like every single line out of Scarlet's mouth hit. So that's my pick. That's my pick. Um,
[1:24:23] That's my pick. Um, but again, it's hard to really make a definitive call when I haven't watched most of these dubs.
[1:24:38] Maybe I should maybe I should watch it, you know? Like I It's just such a good sub, too. You know, like it's got such good Japanese voice acting, but I I will take your word for it that
[1:24:52] but I I will take your word for it that uh Jabber is is uh Jabber is is um deserving of this award. We'll see um deserving of this award. We'll see who wins out of all of them. Um,
[1:25:06] I have a feeling it's probably gonna be Maren. I don't know. Uh, could be anybody, but we'll see. The best dub performance winner is Maren. Yeah, that uh that tracks. Um, it's a very good performance. Like, uh, you know, props
[1:25:23] to Emily for for really making it as a voice actress. um dub. I I didn't watch season two dubbed, but I have seen the the first season dub
[1:25:39] and and I I do think it it deserves the props. Um props. Um yeah, good job. Uh welld deserved. Uh let's move on to the next award though, which is the best anime that you didn't
[1:25:54] watch. These are the really underrated ones. Although I feel like some of these a lot of people did watch. D Dr. Stone Science
[1:26:06] Future for example, very popular anime. It just wasn't talked about a lot. But It just wasn't talked about a lot. But uh Santa definitely um underrated as uh Santa definitely um underrated as hell.
[1:26:23] it did get a lot of motion but not as much as it deserved. fragrant flower blooms with dignity. Um, I feel like that one was really talked about, but that one was really talked about, but you know, maybe I'd have to ask uh Miles
[1:26:36] for the numbers on how many people watched that, but um they didn't watch any of these. So, uh yeah, 100 meters absolutely should be on
[1:26:51] yeah, 100 meters absolutely should be on here. like that one that one is the most here. like that one that one is the most underwatched uh anime this year by far. Um, Santa deserves a lot of praise and yeah, being in Amazon jail really sucked
[1:27:04] for it. Um, yeah, Fragrant Yeah, Fragrant Flower was delayed, but I feel like it had a lot of hype behind it. And then, you know, Uma, Cinderella Gray, and City, which are both really good. Really good. Um, Cinderella Gray is the
[1:27:20] best. Duma Musim thing and it's not close. Um, and but I I feel like I don't know this is this is subjective, right? You know, like this is what just
[1:27:32] what people felt were underrated anime. And I'm not going to disagree with necessarily any of them except Dr. Stone. I feel like Dr. Stone is is quite
[1:27:44] Stone. I feel like Dr. Stone is is quite popular. Um, Metalist actually does deserve to be on here. Metalist got shafted by Disney.
[1:28:00] Um, but maybe, you know, maybe that's my fault because I didn't give Medalist enough attention in my own end of year awards. Um,
[1:28:22] and Sand wasn't, I I kind of feel inclined to give it to Sand. Like I I feel like Santa far and away is the most underrated anime of the year. like like Uma Musim I feel like it got more motion and like
[1:28:37] like Sand's just Santa's so good um and so smart and has so many interesting things to say. Yeah, for me it's Santa.
[1:28:51] Uh no contest, but we'll see what it is for you right now. And it's orb also a for you right now. And it's orb also a very good choice. Um, I like
[1:29:03] I just feel like Orb got more motion, right? Like I feel like got more motion, right? Like I feel like Orb is the I mean I guess it makes sense that it won because it's like the underrated
[1:29:16] anime that the most anime community members are aware is underrated whereas Santa was genuinely underrated to the point where it wouldn't even that get
[1:29:28] that kind of um community vote behind it. This is the community vote behind it. This is the trick with most underrated awards in a community setting, right? The most overrated, underrated title is going to
[1:29:43] overrated, underrated title is going to uh win even if it's the the Yeah, I don't know. It's kind of a paradox there. I not that I'm saying Orb is overrated. I'm just saying that out of all the underrated
[1:29:57] of all the underrated uh anime on on that list of nominees, it was definitely the one that was rated the closest to what it deserves. Um yeah, there there is an inherent paradox. It's not the underrated award.
[1:30:12] It's the anime you didn't watch. That's uh that's true. Um,
[1:30:30] what is the cap? How do you measure that? I'm making Trey crash out. that? I'm making Trey crash out. [laughter]
[1:30:50] Okay. So, the award is for stuff that the voters didn't watch but heard hyped the voters didn't watch but heard hyped up a lot. Okay. So, oh, it's the voter the voters had hyped up the most, but they themselves didn't
[1:31:04] watch. Okay, I understand. In that context, then yeah, Orb definitely got the most hype out of those. Um, okay. All right. I misunderstood the category. All right. I misunderstood the category. That's my bad. Um, but yeah, Sand, just
[1:31:18] so just so we're clear, I think Sand overall most underrated anime of last overall most underrated anime of last year.
[1:31:30] Avatar the Last Air Bender. Um, that's that's good. Uh, I like that uh I like that uh title. Um, I actually didn't see some of these like Mighty Nine and I'm
[1:31:44] I'm still not up on any of the Alice in Borderlands. Alice in Borderlands live action though, right? I that I don't think you can call Yes, this is it. That's fine. Whatever. Um, it's it's your it's your category. I'm just
[1:31:58] announcing it. Um, maybe there's some animated stuff in there. I don't know. animated stuff in there. I don't know. K-pop Demon Hunters, TB Hero X, Mighty9, Allison Borderland, Milky Subway, The Galactic Limited Express, and Lord of
[1:32:11] the Mysteries. All very, very good titles. Um, I'm leaning like Milky Subway is really good. Um, Milky Subways really good. Deserves the
[1:32:25] deserves the love. I'm leaning to be Hero X out of these. Lord of the Mysteries is also really good. Um, that's the one that the most people got that's the one that the most people got mad at me for not giving it an award uh
[1:32:38] mad at me for not giving it an award uh out of all the anime last year. So, is Mighty Nine that good? I, you know, it's hard for me to judge. Um,
[1:32:56] hey, glad you stumbled in. Hope you stick around. Uh, Mighty Nine literally says no in its title. Um, it's very good. A lot of people saying it's very good. Okay, maybe I gotta go check that out. Um,
[1:33:12] K-pop Demon Hunters or Mighty N. I just I got to give it 2B Hero X. Like 2B Hero X is so it's just over, you know? It's it's it's it's just over, you know? It's it's it's it's over the top of everything else um
[1:33:26] that I've seen on this list, you know? way over K-pop Demon Hunters. Um, if Mighty N is anime, it should have been nominated for VA.
[1:33:38] Good point. Probably. I haven't seen it, but um, yeah, I I'm picking 2B Hero X. A lot of people saying Mighty N. Um, we'll see what the winner is. K-pop Demon Hunters. Not surprising, you know. Um, it's it's
[1:33:56] definitely one of the biggest movies of the year. Um, even though I I personally slightly liked Zootopia 2 more, um, I am pulling
[1:34:08] for it to win just because Pixar's won too many Oscars already. Um, they didn't even nominate any anime for the Oscars. What a crime. Um,
[1:34:26] but yeah, uh, I don't think it's undeserved. Um, definitely like a lot of really fun character animation in there. Um, and character animation in there. Um, and you know, good story.
[1:34:39] Yeah, Zootopia isn't Pixar, but I I don't Yeah, I guess I guess Disney Animation Studios is separate from Pixar and still operating in Vancouver, unlike Pixar. But Disney Animation
[1:34:55] Vancouver was a lot of former Pixar Vancouver people. So, Vancouver people. So, um,
[1:35:12] wins the Pixar award for best Disney animated feature. I agree. Um, but yeah, this is this, you know, good category, good nominees, and a deserving um winner. You know, like it's got a very cool animation style and
[1:35:27] a lot going for it. It's just not my top because I'm an I'm an old man and uh this is for the youngans. [sighs]
[1:35:42] Um, animation category in the Oscars is essentially just a kids film award. Kind of is. Yeah. Um,
[1:35:56] disagree, but um, it is what it is. Best trash. Um, and the nominees for that are, "May I ask for one final thing? There's no freaking way I'll be your There's no freaking way I'll be your lover unless I'm the evil lord of an
[1:36:10] intergalactic empire. Panty in stocking with garter belt to Anki and Nukitashi. Um 100 girlfriends definitely ought to be
[1:36:22] 100 girlfriends definitely ought to be here, but you know that's um May I ask is it's girl trash. You know, it's it's it's a lot of stuff for the ladies, plus beating up dudes who are sexist or racist, etc. You know, it's
[1:36:39] it's definitely a trashy fantasy of a different stripe from most isekai, but different stripe from most isekai, but still in keeping with the spirit of still in keeping with the spirit of isekai. Um, if if this is if if this is
[1:36:52] an award for trashiest, Nukitashi, hands down, no question, is the trashiest anime of last year. And it's it's a pretty strong contender for best trash. Although personally, it if if we're we're talking about stuff that is trash
[1:37:09] we're talking about stuff that is trash and also good, I'm inclined to say no freaking way I'll be your lover unless or may I ask for one final thing are the more deserving entries overall. Like Nukitashi's a pretty damn good anime
[1:37:25] Nukitashi's a pretty damn good anime adaptation, but like from Lamination 1923, Orb didn't get enough motion
[1:37:39] despite being about motion. That's true. That's a good, uh, that's a good point. Um, it deserved more motion. All of the things in that category did. U more people should watch Orb. Um, more people should watch all of those things.
[1:37:55] may I ask for one final thing? And there's no freaking way I'll be Your lover are my picks. I mean, Panty and Stocking is also superlative trash, right? So, this is a really tough category to decide. Um, there's no
[1:38:11] freaking way I'll Be Your Lover is one of my favorite horror anime in recent memory. And May I ask for One Final Thing is is one of the top isekai I've seen in a really long time. So, I like lean in that direction, but um I
[1:38:27] wouldn't be upset with any of these except Togani winning. Um ah yeah, new Takamina son really belongs in here though. Um
[1:38:41] did I finish Dusk Beyond the End of the World? No, I did not. I I got busy with having good anime to watch. Um, not that it's it's bad, it's just it it really is
[1:38:53] trashy and it keeps getting trashier. Um, real unfortunate waste of potential. Um, real unfortunate waste of potential. But the best trash winner is,
[1:39:05] may I ask for one final thing? I'm not mad about that. Uh, I would I I like waffle, right? Like I think it's very much neck andneck with um No
[1:39:21] very much neck andneck with um No freaking way I'll be Your lover. Um like that's just such a good horror anime, right? It really really really delivers on the comedy, the drama, and
[1:39:37] delivers on the comedy, the drama, and the the sexiness that you want. Um, but nay I ask for one final thing. Just kicks ass and it's so satisfying and it's such a great power fantasy. Um, and it's got, you know,
[1:39:52] husbandos who you can't decide if you want to smooch them or punch him. Like it, you know, it's it's got a lot of really good stuff going for it. Um, as girl trash goes, we have not had better in a very long time. and uh it's
[1:40:09] better in a very long time. and uh it's a worthy winner. yeah, um I'm I'm feeling like like Scarlet's
[1:40:24] going to win this one, too. Uh just because of the overlap. Um that's my that's my prediction from this audience. It's also probably who I'd give it to It's also probably who I'd give it to even though Machu Ogre Caparun
[1:40:37] even though Machu Ogre Caparun Yachio Hikaru Scarlet or I already said Yachio Hikaru Scarlet or I already said Scarlet Monica Everett and Natskco are all very very very strong contenders, right? Like there's no losers out of
[1:40:53] this bunch. Um would you call Hikaru the protagonist of would you call Hikaru the protagonist of the summer Hikaru died? guess, right? If you put it in quotation marks, you should put Hikaru in quotation marks
[1:41:06] technically speaking. Um, ogrey cap is is goated, right? Um, for yeah, my like I I feel like Scarlet's going to win this. Um, that's
[1:41:18] just my hunch. I would give it to Yachio or Ogory Cap. Uh, I mean, would I Yeah. No, I Yachio is a really really compelling character. Um,
[1:41:32] I think overall I'd give it to Yachio just just barely. But Ogre Cap is is just one of the best sports anime protags in recent memory. And Monica is really good, too. Monica um I, you know, I all of these carry
[1:41:49] their shows in some way. There's no bad answer, but like Monica has a really answer, but like Monica has a really good arc. Scarlet just kicks ass like orafarmms better than anybody this year. Ogory Cap is
[1:42:10] just a super compelling lead for a sports drama. Like a great breakaway from your typical underdog dynamic. Um, really love Ogre Cap, but Yachio Yachio is just so good.
[1:42:26] And, you know, I I love Ocaroon too, but you know, feel like Oakaroon got his flowers last year. Um, and I would personally
[1:42:43] was picking a protagonist from Dondon. Um, but that's me. Um, they're both good. I just I just give it to uh to Momo. Yes, I've seen the new Gits trailer. It looks amazing. Um, very excited for it. Denji. Yeah, Denji was
[1:43:01] this year and and Momo isn't barely a pro tag this year. Like Ocaroon, it's definitely Oaroon's season, but like Momo gets some stuff to season, but like Momo gets some stuff to do.
[1:43:19] Okaroon. There we go. You know, I I um not my pick, but a good pick. Momo did win last year. That makes
[1:43:31] sense. Okay, so we Momo and Oaroon both have the award now. That's fair. Um have the award now. That's fair. Um Scarlet. Yeah, Scarlet or or Scarlet. Yeah, Scarlet or or Yachio for me, I think.
[1:43:47] It's really hard to say. Toashi 100 meters would also have been getting somebody from orb. Yeah. And no mau that is that is a very
[1:43:59] severe excuse me that's a severe omission. Uh Momo that's a severe omission. Uh Momo deserved that. Or Mau Mau Momo. I'm getting a little tired here. We have been at this for an hour and 44
[1:44:15] minutes though. Let's keep going. Best supporting character. Best supporting character. I don't know why I said that so weird. Um, we got Knuckle Duster from My Hero Vigilantes. Uh, Kuma from One Piece. Engine from
[1:44:31] Gachiakuta. Ira from Dondadon. Isabelle Norton from Secrets of the Silent Witch. Akira Oata from Dress Up Darling. Chalia Bull from Mobile Suit Gundam Gquax, which like was an amazing
[1:44:46] Gundam Gquax, which like was an amazing glow up for for Chalia as a character compared to his existence in in the original Gundam. And Ponco from Apocalypse Hotel, who I would consider a co-protagonist, like a duteragonist
[1:45:00] personally. Um, so I don't know if I would necessarily say fits, but you know, if we're having her for supporting character, then Panco is tough to beat. Um, but like in terms of
[1:45:17] like actually what makes a supporting character good for me, I think engine really is is a great choice because he's kind of the heart of Gachiakuta. He he like allows the the show and Rudo's arc
[1:45:35] to go in more unconventional um positive directions than than they would if he was just like a brooden bad boy by himself. Like like Engine's really a
[1:45:50] just a a phenomenal character. Um, and then if if we're just talking about who's the most entertaining, like like steals every single scene she's in, Isabelle Norton in Secrets of the Silent Witch is
[1:46:05] my other pick for who deserves this. Again, I think Panco is a main character, not a supporting character, so it doesn't fit. And Ira's kind of the same way. Ira is a protagonist of Dondon. Everybody's a protagonist. It's
[1:46:18] it's just, you know, like Dond Don just has a lot of protagonists. That's the way I see it. But like Panco doesn't fit best supporting character for me. Um, but yeah, Isabelle just steals every single
[1:46:33] scene she's in. Every time she shows up, I you just like huge smile on my face. Tomo Cross would be good. Bel no Light would also be good. There's a lot of good supporting characters in uh Cinderella Gray, but even then, I don't
[1:46:47] think any of them would beat Isabelle for me. Like, she just she carries. Um and and she really is a supporting character. Um there's no ambiguity
[1:46:59] character. Um there's no ambiguity there. So, that's that's my pick. Um I understand why, you know, if you want to disagree, that's that's fine by me. But, um yeah, that's my pick. And then engine would be my second pick. But
[1:47:11] we'll see what you picked in just a second. And it's Panco. I don't disagree. I love Panco, right? I don't disagree. I love Panco, right? Like I love Panco. And like I understand
[1:47:23] hacking the awards so that you know Yachio and Panco could both be up, both potentially get their flowers. Panco is just to me the co the dutaragonist of just to me the co the dutaragonist of Apocalypse Hotel. Um so I I love I love
[1:47:39] gonna be mad about Panco getting some love here. Um
[1:47:51] Ira actually has in the plot, she is always the main character of Dondon. You have to understand that even if she's doing absolutely nothing, Ira is the main character. That's her whole thing. Um,
[1:48:15] like he's just just such a a great positive masculine role model. I I loved every moment of
[1:48:27] him in um in Gachiakuta. I I He just He's so good. Door opening robot. Yeah. You know what? Actually, no. If we're talking
[1:48:41] supporting characters, environment checker robot is the clear standout character in all of Apocalypse Hotel, baby. He's just so He steals every scene
[1:48:54] he's into. He's the only one who I really think him and Isabelle going up against each other would have been like the real supporting character Olympics. Um but yeah, BNO uh really does deserve
[1:49:09] but yeah, BNO uh really does deserve some love too. Um Yeah, Gachiakuta um is definitely up there. like
[1:49:22] Apocalypse Hotel is also phenomenal in terms of uh character phenomenal in terms of uh character design. Um but let's see our villains uh because we got a real good selection here. Um the parents in Taco P's
[1:49:37] here. Um the parents in Taco P's original sin. Um I don't know if I'd call them villains. I feel like everyone in Taco P is a victim of everybody else. Um, like there are some
[1:49:51] characters who are more innocent than others, but like I don't think it's it's just the parents who deserve the blame in that story. It's it's in that story. It's it's society and um
[1:50:07] human nature and you know uh but yeah, we there's other good options. Timari from Can a Boy Girl friendship survive is uh definitely a villain. That's for darn sure. No denying that. Um
[1:50:37] really compelling um big personality villain who makes a good big personality villain who makes a good counterpoint to Senku Res in Chainsaw counterpoint to Senku Res in Chainsaw Man. Um I expect to be the winner here
[1:50:50] Man. Um I expect to be the winner here because uh she is very very compelling. because uh she is very very compelling. Um Lolan from Apothecary Diaries, uh very very smart villain, right? Um, and Anko in
[1:51:06] Call of the I Call of the Night season 2 is another one that I still got to catch up on, but um I've seen some clips and she does seem super good. And the one thing Call of the really needed was like some real
[1:51:21] um stakes in its story uh from in in season one at least. It was, you know, really chill and laid-back. So, I'm glad that they got like a real story going. Not that I mind just hanging out at night, but um
[1:51:36] I don't know if Lolan can be called a villain. Maybe anti I mean that's the thing, right? Like like Apothecary Diaries is a a very complex court drama and like
[1:51:50] everyone is just going for their own agenda. Um and that's what makes it so compelling, right? You know, it's this like noble politics and nobody's really a bad guy. They're all just playing the game.
[1:52:09] mean, Himari, unironically, Himari does cause more problems than a lot of these like actual villain characters. Oh, and and I I forgot to mention and should not forget to mention because she's seriously good.
[1:52:23] to mention because she's seriously good. Terranitza from May I ask for one final thing is legitimately a brilliant concept for a villain with a great very very strong personality. Um
[1:52:38] very strong personality. Um I you know like super compelling uh zero I you know like super compelling uh zero qualms about having her up here. Um
[1:52:52] yeah Lulan's mother is more the villain. You're right. You're right. Um, yeah, she she is from a narrative perspective a villain in the same way that from like a narrative perspective, like a structural perspective,
[1:53:05] regardless of what you think of his actions, Thanos in Avengers Endgame is actions, Thanos in Avengers Endgame is the hero of the narrative structure and
[1:53:17] it it like focuses on his p uh like his perspective and is achieving his goals perspective and is achieving his goals um is the the like anchor around which all of the crossover action revolves or the the fulcrum not anchor
[1:53:34] when I say anyway um from a structural perspective the villain but not necessarily villainous um I would give this to Terrana honestly like character
[1:53:46] is really where may I ask for one final thing shines the most and she's got um she's just just a delightful scenery chewing monster. Um Infinity War. Yeah.
[1:54:01] chewing monster. Um Infinity War. Yeah. Yeah. Infinity War or whatever. No, no, Yeah. Infinity War or whatever. No, no, Infinity War was the second one, right? Infinity War was the second one, right? Is Endgame the second one? I don't even
[1:54:14] man. [sighs] I used to care so much about Marvel and now I don't hardly at all. It sucks. And yeah, Endgame was the last one.
[1:54:26] Endgame came second. That makes sense from a title perspective. Um
[1:54:39] yeah, Res is the antagonist, not really the the villain. Um if this but yeah the the villain. Um if this but yeah Terrana is um you're right she is kind of like what would happen if Ira from Dondon got
[1:54:51] iside. That's a very good way to put it. Um and That's a very good way to put it. Um and if if yeah I cared about Marvel until it was over and then um or until it reached its
[1:55:05] natural end point. And like I just didn't have enough [\h__\h] to give to get didn't have enough [\h__\h] to give to get into Wanda Vision or any of the stuff that they're doing now. I just I'm I'm checked out. I'm I'm completely checked
[1:55:19] out. Uh except Guardians of the Galaxy. I'll I'll I'll come back for Guardians of the Galaxy. That's about it, though. Galaxy. That's about it, though. Best villain winner is Res. Not
[1:55:33] Best villain winner is Res. Not surprising. Um, you know, not surprising considering, you know, the acting award and everything. Not undeserved either. She is very compelling as a character and like the
[1:55:47] the Res movie is a great character study. I just give it to Terrana because study. I just give it to Terrana because she's like incredible. Um, she's like incredible. Um, and Noak actually. Yeah. Yeah. Noak is
[1:56:01] and Noak actually. Yeah. Yeah. Noak is the big emission here. Noak is if Noak was here I would have given it to Noak actually even above Terrana and I love actually even above Terrana and I love Terrana but like Noak is is just
[1:56:20] yeah I'm I'm sad too but fair win all things considered nominees here me and Robocco the movie. Obviously, the best one that immediately
[1:56:36] stands out out of any of these. Um, Bon, Boundary of Adulthood. Glad to see Garn got the nod here, you know, like it's it's a good movie. Um,
[1:56:48] out of the anime movies that I've seen this year, uh, one of the better or one of the best ones. Um, Gundam Gquex: The Beginning. Uh, I don't, you know, I don't mind it, honestly. like it's it's a really cool
[1:57:03] um see to me Gquax and and Demon Slayer Infinity Castle I wouldn't give it to either of these just because they're not complete stories in their own right. Um they're just parts of a TV show that you
[1:57:19] they're just parts of a TV show that you can watch in theaters. And to me that that doesn't qualify for best film. That's my opinion. Uh, I think that a film should be nice and self-contained and Chainsaw Man achieves that. Um,
[1:57:34] despite being part of an ongoing story, it feels completely self-contained. Um, in a way that Demon Slayer Infinity Castle doesn't. Um,
[1:57:48] doesn't. Um, and and GQ Quack's Beginnings does more, and and GQ Quack's Beginnings does more, you know, like I'm I I it frame it as like an arc of like, okay, here's this stuff that Char did and then
[1:58:01] what happened after that certainly works, but
[1:58:13] to me. Um, the standouts are 100 meters, Robocco the movie, obviously like Robocco, Robocco saved anime, um, and Chainsaw Man. And, you know, I'm glad Chainsaw Man. And, you know, I'm glad Bond's here, but like I I don't think
[1:58:28] even Gar would put it in the same tier as Chainsaw Man or 100 meters. Um, it's good and I'm glad it got the nod, but that's uh, you know, Chainsaw Man and 100 meters, I think, are the two most likely contenders. I expect
[1:58:45] Chainsaw Man to be the one that got the most votes, but 100 meters is the better movie. 100 meters is the best movie that I saw last year, anime or otherwise. Um,
[1:58:59] I saw last year, anime or otherwise. Um, 100 meters is just phenomenal. Um, it deserves the Oscar. It deserves every award under the sun. Um,
[1:59:11] if the community gave it to Garn, I wouldn't be mad. Um, and Robocco, I just like Robocco, you know. I like memeing that Robocco is the know. I like memeing that Robocco is the greatest anime of all time, and it is.
[1:59:25] greatest anime of all time, and it is. Uh, I love all the posters, too. like the parodies of different uh anime like
[1:59:37] Robocco [snorts] just makes me smile, man. Um Oshino Co I feel worked better as a movie. um like or like like the first
[1:59:51] episode of Oshino to me does feel properly self-contained like a like a properly self-contained like a like a proper film um in a way that Demon proper film um in a way that Demon Slayer doesn't. So
[2:00:04] yeah, we'll we'll see what the winner is though. Sinners I do still have to see. So like my you know take me saying 100 meters is the best with a grain of salt. I have not seen sinners yet and I need to. Um, but
[2:00:24] Chainsaw Man is the winner and it's not a bad choice. Um, I just, you know, 100 meters is a perfect 10 out of 10 virtuoso piece of perfect 10 out of 10 virtuoso piece of aur film making and Chainsaw Man is an
[2:00:37] excellent adaptation of a very good comic book. You know, like I'm not I'm not downplaying how good it is. I would give it a nine out of 10, but um and you know I gave it an 8.5 when we first watched it, but like on reflection I
[2:00:52] watched it, but like on reflection I would give it a nine out of 10. Um would give it a nine out of 10. Um I just 100 meters is a perfect 10 and I just 100 meters is a perfect 10 and it's hard to you know I can't top that.
[2:01:04] it's hard to you know I can't top that. I need to review Robocco. Um I got to talk about it in some capacity for sure. Read 20th Century Boys challenge failed. What? What is this? [laughter]
[2:01:30] golden comedy. I will. I will. I didn't do the challenge I gave. Oh, I I didn't do the challenge I gave. Oh, I I'm sorry. I forgot. I forgot. I mean, I I'm sorry. I forgot. I forgot. I mean, I have read 20th Century Boys already, so
[2:01:48] want to reread it, I have to reread it want to reread it, I have to reread it on an iPad. Um, on an iPad. Um, did
[2:02:01] That's right. I did. [\h__\h] I can't even remember no more.
[2:02:13] It was really good though. I I should finish it. Um I will do that. should I read it? Should I read Golden Comely or watch Golden Comey? That's the
[2:02:25] real question. Um but I will make a point of of finishing 20th Century Boys point of of finishing 20th Century Boys and uh watching Golden Kamoy or reading watch Okay. Watch. Okay.
[2:02:46] Anime of the year is our final award and uh all of the contenders are strong and uh all of the contenders are strong contenders. Um Apocalypse Hotel, Dond contenders. Um Apocalypse Hotel, Dond Don season 2, Mobile Suit Gundam Gquax,
[2:02:59] Taco P's Original Sin, Apothecary Diaries season 2, and The Summer Hikaru Died. You already know what I gave the award You already know what I gave the award to. Apocalypse Hotel. Um,
[2:03:12] I think 100 meters belongs here. Personally, um, I'm I'm happy to see Gquax get the nod. I'm I'm glad you guys liked it so much. Um,
[2:03:33] yeah, Gquax needed to be about twice as long as it was, I think, based on what I long as it was, I think, based on what I watched. Um not finishing it, uh I it watched. Um not finishing it, uh I it felt like it was moving too fast.
[2:03:51] why it would be someone's favorite of the year because it's such like it's the year because it's such like it's such fan service. Um, do we have any other things to discuss here before we move on?
[2:04:05] Um, bottom left. Yeah, that's Bumble Suit Gundam, Gquax, Summer Hikatu Died over here. here. Um, Apothecary Diaries.
[2:04:20] Um, Apothecary Diaries. All excellent Hotel Syame
[2:04:41] Yeah, a third of the nominees is kind of crazy. Um like I'm so tired. I can't do basic math. I can't count that there's six things here. Um, Syame getting two out of the six is is pretty impressive and welldeserved and
[2:04:56] I'm so sad that they are apparently selling out and becoming an AI studio or starting an AI studio or some crap like that. Um,
[2:05:11] it was a stacked year though and nothing nothing here is undeserving. Um, Calloon Generic Romance was not nominated for everything for anything and I do believe that it deserved uh a nomination somewhere but uh
[2:05:28] nomination somewhere but uh yeah, no Calloon Shoshim your former I only watched like one episode of that and it didn't do it for me. Um, Syame has opened up an AI studio. It's very disappointing. Um,
[2:05:53] no question. But we'll see what it is for all of you right now because the for all of you right now because the winner of our anime of the year award is
[2:06:05] Dond Don season 2. Not bad. Not the one I would have picked, but not bad. Um, I really love Dondon season one. I gave I gave that anime of the year last year and it is it is very good. You know, it
[2:06:22] still in my top four for the year overall, not counting sequels, etc.
[2:06:46] should have been up for drama for sure. Um, but I mean that's the thing, right? There were so many good anime this year that it's impossible to get all of them even in the nominees. I tried my best to make sure that like every worthwhile
[2:07:01] anime at least got an honorable mention in my awards. And I still missed Turkey. in my awards. And I still missed Turkey. Um so you know
[2:07:17] and uh what was it called? thing. Um or like romant was it shown in romance? Anyway, Star Brighter Than the
[2:07:30] Sun was apparently really good and I didn't hardly watch any of that and uh didn't hardly watch any of that and uh that one apparently deserved uh a nod that one apparently deserved uh a nod too. So, you know, everybody misses
[2:07:45] something. Um Dondon season 2 though was excellent. Dondon season 2 though was excellent. Um, I think, you know, Abel Gongora might have done an even better job than who was it who directed season one. Um,
[2:08:08] I almost said real quack because we've been talking about uh
[2:08:25] season one. He did a really good job, but like I, you know, Abel Gangora just but like I, you know, Abel Gangora just really brought it season two. Um,
[2:08:37] thank you. Thank you for loving my channel, Mr. Nobody. Um, review Starlight progress update. Zero progress. I'm sorry. Uh, I'll try. progress. I'm sorry. Uh, I'll try. There's just so much. Um, same pick as
[2:08:52] A&N. Is it? Um, I don't know what their anime of the year was, but uh, you know, anime of the year was, but uh, you know, hey, da don da did it.
[2:09:04] Donga dong dongadong diddy diddy. I don't know. Um, [snorts]
[2:09:16] too much? That's a good question. No, you can't. There's a lot of Gundam. Oh, right. Bullet. Bullet. That one completely slipped under my radar. Was it any good? Um, because I didn't watch it. I I like I straight didn't watch it.
[2:09:32] Um, I completely missed it because it like it it missed my seasonal window and then I didn't hear anybody saying anything about it and like I wanted to get to it before I did the anime of the year
[2:09:45] before I did the anime of the year awards but there just wasn't time. Um,
[2:10:01] deserves a bigger stage. Hey, I'll get to it. I'll get to it. It's just I'm sorry. Gone egg will be anime of the year 2028. Gone egg will be anime of the year 2028. Um
[2:10:18] it got if if it went somewhere, but like I really feel like Gon Ron Heg is going I really feel like Gon Ron Heg is going to be gone Ron from Shonen Jump in like to be gone Ron from Shonen Jump in like a month or two um with how it's going.
[2:10:31] Um, not not that I don't like the concept. I just uh I don't think it's concept. I just uh I don't think it's doing that well. Um, I'm bummed about Otter of the Flame. Like, it had storytelling problems, but
[2:10:45] it was so gorgeous, and I feel like if it had just gotten to be animated, it it had just gotten to be animated, it would have picked up a a fan base. Um,
[2:11:01] was worth my time. Okay. Well, I'll have to give that a shot.
[2:11:17] so yeah, we got our winners here. All good winners. Best isai fantasy, be best this is anime. Um, I'm glad, you know, uh, there was at least one thing where the best anime of the year actually got an award, best
[2:11:31] the year actually got an award, best supporting character, but, um, you know, supporting character, but, um, you know, it is what it is. Uh,
[2:11:44] best comedy at the very least, though. Uh, I mean it, you know, it deserved anime of the year, but Dondon, these things are ultimately popularity contests and there is no denying the
[2:11:58] popularity of Dond Don. And that's not even, you know, when people are like, "Oh, it's a popularity contest." They're like I feel like a lot of people say that as like salty cope a lot of the time, but
[2:12:11] like it's just an acknowledgement of the reality that when you have a popular vote, the thing that's the most popular is going to win the vote. That's just how it works. Um, and achieving popularity is not
[2:12:25] it's not easy. It is something that is worthy of recognition. So, uh, I I think these awards are valid if even if they're not the awards I would personally give out. Um,
[2:12:40] a little sad we didn't have a best animation category, even though, you know, City wouldn't have won it and I would have been sad. Um, City does deserve the nod for best animation. And if there's one thing that you take home
[2:12:54] if there's one thing that you take home from this, it's that uh City the Animation deserves best animation at the Crunchyroll Awards. Whenever those nominations come out, you need to vote for it. Like your life depends on it
[2:13:08] because that shit's going to go to Chainsaw Man or or um uh Demon Slayer or some other thing that is not even close to City's level. and City deserves that.
[2:13:22] So that's that's my um little bit of campaigning at the end here. Uh and obviously get everybody watching this should watch Apocalypse Hotel so you understand that Apocalypse Hotel is in fact better than Dond Don and deserve
[2:13:38] the award more and then you go vote for that at the anime of the year awards. best animation. I would be very disappointed if it didn't. Um I
[2:13:53] nominated it when I submitted my ballot. So, you know, um
[2:14:06] I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say that. That's fine. Uh but yeah, I I'm sure that a lot of the people who are doing anime of the words, anime are doing anime of the words, anime awards nominations are
[2:14:25] city pill um enough that it will at least get the nom. Um, so after that it's just a matter of public awareness, making sure that people know that if they give best animation to literally anything else, they are dumb. Uh,
[2:14:44] good choice. There's lots of There's lots of good choices here. Um, I'm a little sad that you guys aren't Apocalypse Hotel enough yet. Um, more of
[2:15:00] you more you need to watch Apocalypse Hotel and understand that it is the greatest work of art of the generation or something. I don't know. Um, it's just really good. Zenshu won uh best isekai fantasy which is very very welld
[2:15:15] deserved you know like um I don't know what else I would have given it to.
[2:15:29] I think Violet Everg Gardenarden's better than City um in terms of like better than City um in terms of like overall story, but um production like in terms of just looking
[2:15:46] insanely gorgeous and being technically super impressive. Um I have not read the Apocalypse Hotel prequel manga. I need to get on that clearly. Um,
[2:16:00] I'll get a apocalypse hotel filled when I finish. Uh, Shosin. Okay, sure. I'll I finish. Uh, Shosin. Okay, sure. I'll just add it to the list.
[2:16:18] I don't know. If you don't put isekai and fantasy together, then it it almost and fantasy together, then it it almost you run into an issue where um
[2:16:31] this year? I think there will be, but last year um fantasy is a lot harder to come by than isekai
[2:16:44] and isekai doesn't have that many actually awardw worthy uh contenders most years. So I feel like it works to pair those down and throw it works to pair those down and throw villain stuff in there too. Um,
[2:17:00] I'll watch Apocalypse Hotel after One Piece. It's 12 episodes, man. Just Just Piece. It's 12 episodes, man. Just Just do it.
[2:17:18] fill the hotel with poop. Cuz cuz real Tanuki um they uh they have poop piles in their houses. um that's that's how they live, right? So, uh you know, it's
[2:17:31] they live, right? So, uh you know, it's just it's it's a really serious question of how much do you accommodate other people's cultures when um allowing them to stay as tourists versus how much do you ask them to respect local culture?
[2:17:45] you ask them to respect local culture? It's a very interesting um question that uh I I think is is um you know just having them put poop everywhere is a a very good metaphor for real life tourism
[2:18:00] good metaphor for real life tourism actually. That's um it does feel like something some tourists would do [laughter] as a resident of Tokyo currently and guy who grew up in Vancouver. Um yeah that
[2:18:15] who grew up in Vancouver. Um yeah that uh that as as a commentary on on touris on the culture clash of tourism the culture clash of tourism feels feels pretty on point. Um
[2:18:29] every episode of Apocalypse Hotel is brilliant and you should watch all of them. Umamus best sports anime of all time. I wouldn't say that. Chihayafuru's really good. Um, and even of the year, 100 meters I would say is better, but
[2:18:45] um, it's good. I wish One Piece could be longer. Valid. I wish One Piece could be longer. Valid. Um,
[2:19:01] talking about Griffith. I am talking about many kinds of tourists here. um about many kinds of tourists here. um like American tourists, the guys driving like American tourists, the guys driving around uh Tokyo on the go-karts,
[2:19:15] um the guys people who come over from China to scalp entire limited releases of anime things. Um there's lots of bad anime things. Um there's lots of bad tourists in Tokyo. So don't don't don't
[2:19:31] tourists in Tokyo. So don't don't don't put that as any one. I am not making a commentary on any ethnic group there. Just tourism as any ethnic group there. Just tourism as a whole. Um,
[2:19:51] Vancouver, oh my gosh, we get a lot of obnoxious tourists from again obnoxious tourists from again all walks of life. Uh, I was in I I graduated high school during the Olympics, so I could tell you some
[2:20:07] Olympics, so I could tell you some stories. Um,
[2:20:25] that's uh Don't get racist there. Um, like the the people pooping on the streets most in Vancouver are white drug addicts, just for the record. Um,
[2:20:47] that's that's just an unfortunate uh reality of current Vancouver. Um, That's not really a tourist issue, though. That's just a a not taking care of the local homeless population problem. Um, you know, like uh
[2:21:09] Vancouver is being managed right now. Blaine Ken Sim
[2:21:23] had a problem with a Philadelphia tourist specifically. Um, what series has taken me by surprise this season? Good question. Um, I would,
[2:21:41] Journal with Witch was the one. I mean, I hadn't heard of it at all and now I think it's the best anime of the season. Um, even edging out sentence to be a hero, which I knew was going to be good. I didn't think it'd be that good. Um,
[2:22:03] Vancouver government when he tried to get that slide built. He tried to get a slide built. What a cool dude. Um, I wish I could meet him, but I don't live wish I could meet him, but I don't live in Vancouver anymore. Um but uh
[2:22:20] he is definitely the coolest YouTuber from Vancouver, period. Um even but yeah, journal with which I like I I didn't know anything about it and it didn't know anything about it and it just absolutely blew me away. Um
[2:22:33] definitely the the best uh surprise of the season. Um Champion Witch also very good. I I came in with low expectations for that and you know it made it to my ones to watch list. Reincarnated as a dragon hatchling also like has some good
[2:22:49] stuff going for it. I feel like the lit RPG lineup this season overall is really strong. Um I gota I got to get caught up on on Metalist. Oh yeah, Holy Grail of Aerys. That's the other one that I like. I went
[2:23:06] in expecting just normal villaines stuff and and it it uh blew me away. it it uh blew me away. So, um
[2:23:26] when I say coolest YouTuber from Vancouver, I'm also a YouTuber from Vancouver. So when you're like not Lionus tech tips, I'm like man man. I Lionus tech tips, I'm like man man. I mean Lionus is cool too. Um
[2:23:39] I've never really like I I met him once at PAX um and he seemed like a chill at PAX um and he seemed like a chill dude. Um not even in Vancouver, but uh I Northern Lion it's it's probably me.
[2:23:54] Northern Lion it's it's probably me. Right. Right. I'm just uh surprising Right. Right. I'm just uh surprising number of uh bigger YouTubers in uh the number of uh bigger YouTubers in uh the Vancouver area. Dan um from uh
[2:24:10] New Frame Plus and formerly Extra Credits used to live there. We hung out Credits used to live there. We hung out a lot. Um very cool dude. Uh your movie sucks is also based out of Vancouver. every frame of painting when
[2:24:24] lives in Vancouver, but he he's based out of Vancouver. Vancouver uh has a lot of heavy hitters on the YouTube front. Um I don't know who YouTube front. Um I don't know who Flygon is. Um I assume a Pokemon
[2:24:39] YouTuber. Hell mode. Yeah. Yeah. No, Hell Mode is was saying we got some good lit RPG stuff this season. Hell mode and um
[2:24:51] uh reincarnated as a dragon hatchling both really like scratch that number crunching itch. Um, and then I'd say, uh, I mean, you know, it was good enough to get the wants to watch nod, but, um,
[2:25:07] get the wants to watch nod, but, um, easygoing territory defense of a, uh, optimistic, noble lord, um, was really like was really like much more,
[2:25:23] It was a lot funnier than I expected it to be going in. and it like hits a vibe to be going in. and it like hits a vibe I haven't seen in many anime. Um, so yeah, just a good season overall. I should do a season tier ranking at
[2:25:36] you know, the stuff that I've actually watched. I wanted to start doing that. It's just uh, God, there's so many things to do all the time. [laughter] things to do all the time. [laughter] So busy. Shibboi also very, very good.
[2:25:50] But yeah, um, journal with which overall best surprise of the season. best surprise of the season. I should probably get to bed, I think. Um, I mean, T, yeah, Tristan has his own
[2:26:05] tier list, which is a good way of approaching it, you know, like, um, maybe I should do that because I do watch everything, but like I feel like ones to watch is a good format. You guys like it, you guys appreciate it. U, but
[2:26:18] let me know if you'd like to see something different. Um, something different. Um, I'm always down to change things up.
[2:26:32] trash? I don't know about Case Book of Arna because like it kind of just left me bored the first episode and I don't super want to keep going. Uh,
[2:26:50] but Dark Moon for sure is on hottest trash. No, no doubt about that. Um, like what if Twilight was a reverse Harum? Come on, man. Of course. Of course. A Come on, man. Of course. Of course. A K-pop reverse Harum even. Like, come on.
[2:27:06] I appreciate your writing and delivery more than the format specifically. Thank more than the format specifically. Thank you, Unboxious. I I I I work really hard on my scripts. I appreciate that that people appreciate them. Um,
[2:27:25] episode two just erased the main character. So, from what I understand, the main character of episode 1 was an original character for the anime adaptation who like isn't part of the main cast at all. So, that actually
[2:27:40] main cast at all. So, that actually makes sense. That's not um that that lines up with my expectations. Uh, well, thank you, Silven Soul. I'm glad you enjoy my content. Um,
[2:27:56] Eldrich Horror Harum. That was a couple years ago. Uh, uh, Hayore Nadu Kosan. Um, literally just like a a bunch of Cthulhu's living in the guy's house. Really good series. Um,
[2:28:20] Flops. You're welcome. That one was a ride. [gasps] That was that was a crazy show. not necessarily one of the best, but very like
[2:28:34] very like a very unique experience that um I think everybody with an interest in Harams should give a watch.
[2:28:47] my radar? No, not yet. Maybe now I do. Now I'll at least remember that somebody mentioned it. Um I gotta I gotta catch up on Oshino. Like I said, I made the mistake of being like, "Okay, I'm going to watch all of
[2:29:01] Stranger Things and do a Stranger Things review." And now I'm like, "Is there enough to even say to make a painfully honest review of Stranger Things?" I don't know, right? Like, I have opinions about it, right? Like, I
[2:29:16] I have opinions about it, right? Like, I could go off a little bit about how um they they should have just let Hopper die because that was the perfect sendoff for his character. And when he came back, they only reinforced how little
[2:29:28] they had to do with him by, you know, bringing back the oh no wham, my daughter's dead stuff that we already completely worked through in the last three seasons and there was no reason we needed to rehash that. And adding to
[2:29:44] that, the fact that like not only is he a an agent orange war criminal, not only a an agent orange war criminal, not only not only did he like inflict horrible
[2:29:56] not only did he like inflict horrible birth defects and suffering and cancer on hundreds of thousands of people in Vietnam, but the only thing he feels bad about is that uh touching the chemicals [\h__\h] his junk up and [\h__\h] all his
[2:30:11] friends junk up. and he doesn't feel bad at all even though he has experienced the same suffering that he went through as the people he dumped chemicals on. Um hundreds of thousands of people whose lives he ruined. So like that made me
[2:30:27] lives he ruined. So like that made me like not big on him. Um I got I got that's that's season four. I don't watch the rest of Stranger Things. Um,
[2:30:48] a spoiler. It's just like a thing that they add to his backstory that just like makes him feel slightly more guilty about his his daughter dying. It's just Why did they need it? because Stranger Things is like fundamentally a
[2:31:03] Stranger Things is like fundamentally a project in making uh movies nine times as long as they need to be after the first season. The first season is a really clever uh reworking of plot beats from like a bunch of different types of
[2:31:17] genres. You know, you got a little bit of ET, a little bit of like it slasher movies, you know, like like you 80s horror, a pastiche of 80s horror, a
[2:31:29] little bit of Eldrich horror mixed in there. um some superhero stuff and uh uh there. um some superhero stuff and uh uh John Hughes style coming of age uh teen
[2:31:42] drama and you know you interweave those together and you get something that feels like more than the sum of its parts. Um, but then the rest of the seasons are all just like, let's take some 80s movie stuff and uh stretch it
[2:31:55] out for an entire season of television. And it works okay for the second season questions to answer that don't completely demystify the monster. Um,
[2:32:07] completely demystify the monster. Um, and uh, even, you know, like season 3 I had fun with as like a let's just completely stop pretending that this world and these characters really matter and and
[2:32:20] just like lean into the 80s reverence. You know, we got let's go to the shopping mall. Let's f fill it fill it with product placement. Now, this is about the Cold War and we're doing body snatchers and evil communists and all of
[2:32:35] this stuff and we're gonna blow up the body snatching hive mind in the middle of a shopping mall with Fourth of July fireworks. Just going to town with that. But then after that, like what do they do? Stoner comedies, synchronized roller
[2:32:52] derby bullying. um [\h__\h] six entire episodes spent like slowly going through all of the different flashbacks of uh Eleven's life at the
[2:33:07] Akira factory that could have been two flashbacks at most. could have been an flashbacks at most. could have been an email honestly all to establish this Freddy Krueger but he likes spiders villain who's like now now the
[2:33:22] mysterious Eldrich force that's been heranging our our uh heroes for the heranging our our uh heroes for the entirety of the series this like mysterious evil alien mind that we can't really comprehend is just a guy he's
[2:33:39] really comprehend is just a guy he's just like a guy from Utah or Arizona or some [\h__\h] like some desert town somewhere who moved to Hawkins, Indiana. And he's just a guy. He's just an evil guy who likes spiders and hates people
[2:33:51] and wants to kill people kind of just because. And then like the next season didn't make the hive mind. The hive mind was already there and it brainwashed brainwashed because he was always kind of an evil guy. And we're not going to
[2:34:05] explain any of the things that actually motivate him as a character unless you go see a stage play that you can only watch in London and New York. That's the only way to get the complete story of Stranger Things. Um,
[2:34:19] which uh uh oh, I'm getting a call. Uh, I'll I'll hop on that in a bit. Uh, right. There was an evil rock. Um.
[2:34:46] but also he was like always evil deep down or something because he was like, you know, he's he's like I don't [\h__\h] know. Um, and like you know they they spend all this time trying to set him up as a villain and like we know nothing
[2:35:01] about why he's murdering people or what he really wants to do aside from some vague nihilistic world is a [\h__\h] [\h__\h] And um [\h__\h] And um I I I hate everything about the last two
[2:35:16] I I I hate everything about the last two seasons. The the you know season 4 is like it's got some good high points, right? But we don't I don't need answers to exactly what happened in the Akira factory. It only makes it less
[2:35:29] interesting to know the intricate details of why um you know 11, you know, details of why um you know 11, you know, what papa was up to and and who one was
[2:35:41] and all of this other stuff. I didn't need to know that 11 was also bullied by the psychic kids. That's just it's just stuff, right? It's just adding stuff. It's adding new stuff. The whole Agent Orange thing is just to add one
[2:35:56] more thing for Hopper to like monologue about for a while. There are so many problems that are introduced and solved in the same scene just to create like an in the same scene just to create like an extra scene. Um, Jonathan and Nancy
[2:36:12] going through their relationship issues in season 5 could have happened in any action scene, right? But instead, they have to like craft this bespoke extra the walls melting and we're supposed to believe they're in danger even though
[2:36:26] they're obviously not in danger. Just so that they can have this metaphor of like, oh, it feels like we're drowning, but then we talk it out and suddenly we're standing on solid ground. Ooh, brilliant film making. I
[2:36:39] Okay, so clearly I do have a lot to say about Stranger Things, but I don't know if it's a video. I just I don't know if it's a video. I just I I am mad about
[2:36:51] it. I'm very mad about it. Maybe maybe it's just a clip that rant and Trey can edit some stuff over it. I don't know. Um but the fundamental
[2:37:04] don't know. Um but the fundamental problem is just like problem is just like when you have a horror movie or show, the more you explain about the monster, the less interesting it becomes. And uh
[2:37:17] the ultimate the ultimate expression of that process is when you turn the big scary monster into a JRPG boss fight, which is exactly
[2:37:29] into a JRPG boss fight, which is exactly what they did. Um and it's just it's what they did. Um and it's just it's it's it's bad. Uh add to that the fact that Noah Schnapp can't act for [\h__\h] Finn Wolfhard acts at a level of most of
[2:37:44] the kids in my high school drama class. Millie Bobby Brown, I haven't seen her in other stuff, but this is not good material for her. And um I don't I don't really like it's not a compelling performance at all. Um and you know,
[2:37:59] maybe maybe some of the other stuff she's in. Um the guy who plays Dustin and the guy who plays Lucas, uh they're really good actors. and the girl they brought in for Max, unsurprisingly, because she came in in a later season
[2:38:11] about, okay, we're going to make more of these and we don't just need child actors who are good now. She's a good actress. Um, there's a reason that they pair them so much with each other and the older actors and kind of just leave
[2:38:25] the older actors and kind of just leave Mike and Will and Eleven together by themselves. I'm sorry, I'm just on a big rant. Um, wife was the main writer at the beginning and they got divorced? That
[2:38:39] would that kind of tracks? Um, but I also like I just think making it into a multi-season TV show was a bad idea. I don't think
[2:38:51] that we needed any of the mysteries that were left hanging in the first season were left hanging in the first season answered. And I like there's good stuff in season two. I'm glad that we got season two and
[2:39:05] three for you know Steve Harrington's redemption arc and his friendship with Dustin is really good. I like Robin as a character too. Um I like Joyce Hopper
[2:39:17] character too. Um I like Joyce Hopper does nothing for me. Um and like again I think Hopper should have died. I just, you know, I don't see any value in him coming back. Um,
[2:39:30] coming back. Um, it it it it they just kind of Yeah, I should roast Love Hina, too. Yeah, David Harbor is a good actor, but they give him nothing to work with for the entire last two seasons. And really
[2:39:43] for season 3, too. You know, like him dying just worked, right? But then they have that cliffhanger at the end and like there were people theory crafting who could possibly be the American in the jail set. It's obviously Hopper, you
[2:39:56] know, like who else could it be? 11 sister. Um, what other Americans are unaccounted for at that point in the unaccounted for at that point in the story, right? Literally just Hopper.
[2:40:25] just I want to watch anime that I like. I want to enjoy what I'm watching. And I want to enjoy what I'm watching. And like I I the other thing is like a lot of the roasts I mean they pick up over time but it's got to be of something
[2:40:39] time but it's got to be of something popular for it to really uh get the views that justify how much time goes into crafting one of those if that makes sense. You know like um the the Vatican Miracle Examiner one
[2:40:55] right? you know, that was a fun roast, but then it was and and you know, the the worst anime director of all time. Like, I figured
[2:41:08] I I'm really proud of that video, but uh yeah, I don't know. I more roasts I I think are warranted. A roast of Love, Hino, would be good. Um,
[2:41:29] season. Um, anyway, that's my Stranger Things rant. Um, maybe I will restructure that into a full video. Uh because I you know the
[2:41:41] when I started talking I did have stuff to say but um at the moment I got to watch some trash for hottest trash and and uh
[2:41:58] figure that out. And uh it is 2:00 p.m. here. So I gots to get to sleep or I mean get my day going. What am I talking about? I don't have to get to sleep. Um, you got to get to sleep. I gotta get on with uh working. Um, watch
[2:42:14] the noble isekai. It's hilariously bad. I I think the one I know the one that I think I know what you're talking about. Um,
[2:42:38] you for listening to my Stranger Things TED talk TED talk and I will see you later. and I will see you later. Peace out. And and also, sorry, I'm I'm
[2:42:52] as bad at ending streams as I am at ending phone calls. Thank you everybody ending phone calls. Thank you everybody who voted in the awards, who nominated have happened without you. definitely couldn't ha have happened without Piro
[2:43:05] couldn't ha have happened without Piro doing the actual uh the the doing the actual uh the the slideshow um the PowerPoint presentation slideshow um the PowerPoint presentation and the uh actual award voting and
[2:43:17] everything. Everybody say thank you to Piro one last time for that. And if you want to contribute to these awards next year, make sure that you go join the Mother's Basement Discord. It's a great community
[2:43:31] full of great people. Um, we'd love to have you if you're not in there already. have you if you're not in there already. Thanks very much for your time.
