Ferrari vs Lamborghini Drag Race — Full Breakdown & Transcript

[00:00] Roll win in a drag race between the new Ferrari 296 Speciale and the Lamborghini Rivalto. Well, we're going to find out by racing them over to Stanley Court tomorrow. I'm Al Watson, you're watching CarWars.

[00:14] Now, let me tell you about that new 296 Speciale. It's got a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6, driving the rear wheels, but it's also made into an electric motor. Combined, you have 880 horsepower, which is 50 horsepower more than the normal 296.

[00:27] it also has 765 Newton meters of torque it's also light it's raising it's just over 1.5 tonne it's about 60 kilos lighter than the standard carburetor it's also more expensive that one there is a spec it's in 500 pounds now for similar money you could have this Lamborghini

[00:41] Ruelton it's got a 6.5 litre natural braking v12 mated to an electric motor driving the rear wheels but you also have two electric motors on the front axle they have four-wheel drive combined power it's 1016 horsepower and 1062 newton meters and when you combine that with the four-wheel drive

[00:58] system you think that that ferrari stands no chance of beating this lamborghini but that ain't gonna be the case necessarily because this is a lot heavier raising it just under 1.9 tons anyway let's see what's going to happen quick introduction to the driver and owner of the ferrari

[01:28] lamborghini i mean really you you should get destroyed but i'm not sure that's actually going to be the case well being lamborghini flagship model you'd like to think they'd win however i seen the ff90 destroy that car before on carwell and i think that this would be a good race against

[01:44] against the FF90 as well, so I think I'll be good. So that's confidence for you. It's that kind of confidence that earns you a 2.9-inch Speciale Harley. So let's get into the racing. We're going to start off with a drag race. Cold tyres, though, so anything could happen.

[01:57] Place of my bad days, four-wheel drive. OK, let's do this. Here we go, then, Joe.

Joe oh my god that was amazing I don know what won I see you take off I think I came back a bit and I think I just tipped you at the end but I think total finish Yeah no idea So we call that one a draw We going to do some other racing first and then we going to get back

[03:11] into the drag races, see which of these two cars is the fastest. I mean this is your rear wheel drive, this shouldn't be happening. Right Joe, what we're going to do now is have a rolling race over the half mile. We're going to go in third gear in the sportier setting, see what happens. Hopefully technology will help me on this one.

[04:10] What, how, no Maybe I've got an idea, right This thing's second gear, you've got turbo punch, that's why I reckon if I'm high up in the red range I can have you I don't know, I'm still confident 3, 2, 1, go

[04:53] That was different. It was exactly what I thought. This thing needs to be spinning and then it absolutely flies. Yeah, I can't even blink right now. It's just laughing. Hi, Red. Off it goes. Which means I've got to be fair and give you another chance.

[05:06] Let's do another rolling race and just see which one has the most hybrid torque. Meet you back down there. Right, and what we're going to do now, Joe, is go in top gear, go eighth gear from about 60 or 60 miles an hour, and we'll see which one has the most just pure pulling power.

[05:46] There wasn't much of a difference, but this one, I was up to three electric motors and you've only got one I think that was the effect really, wasn't it? Yeah, you just slowly pulled the ways No good, race in 8th gear Let's just go through that nonsense

[05:58] Let's race in 1st gear then! Complete at the end of the gearbox Before we race Joe we going to do a quick stand check So rev up your Ferrari

[06:12] Is that exhaust standard? No, it's not. It's a Brawl Steel exhaust system. Well, I would say you're cheating if I didn't have an aftermarket exhaust on as well, but mine's a Gintani. Have a listen to this.

[06:29] Yeah, that sounds insane. It sounds so good in here as well, it's beautiful. Right, first gear, roll on, half mile, manual mode, let's do this.

[07:00] Wow! Did you set up on some wheel spin? Do you know what? It wasn't wheel spin.

[07:16] The gearbox isn't changing as fast as it normally does. Really? Are you in race mode qualifying? Yes. For some reason it's just not shifting like it normally does.

[07:29] I don't think it's just that. Unless the shits are like first neutral second that is not explaining the difference. What's explaining the difference is an extra hundred and twenty horsepower.

[07:44] That may have something to do with it. Oh no, it's heavier, why is it heavier? It's not 400 kilos heavier. Right, now we're going to do a great test from 100 miles an hour. Where we're in the code What about the dock?

[08:22] Our first drag racing was pretty much a draw, we don't know who won. So now let's start fresh. Best try of three, drag racing. Good luck. Over to you, Ferrari. Come on, you've got to win Lamborghini. It's just so embarrassing.

[08:35] I'm going to say it

[09:30] He's so close! Joe, I beat you up the line, and you come back so fast. I think I just beat you on the line there, though. It was very, very close.

[09:42] I think that's a total finish again, Matt. If you're trying to steal the first one from me, I'm going to steal the second one from you. I didn't steal the first one from you. I think it was a draw. Hey, Joe, I've got a confession to make. So the cameraman said that, actually, the very first race, your car won,

[09:57] Which means it wasn't a draw. Which means that now it should be one race each. And that also means that this is the decider. Whoa. Trash is on. Oh, it's close.

[10:27] Have I got enough of a lean? It's coming back now. Oh, it's fucking close.

[10:45] Woooo! It's fucking close.

[10:57] Oh, that's kind of awful. So close. So close. I'll tell you what, Joe, that was some fantastic racing.

[11:10] I can't believe how close it is between these two cars and how that's not even the rain-stopping Ferrari. It's nuts, isn't it? Yeah, it really shouldn't be close. However, I think that just speaks volumes on what Ferrari's done with this car.

[11:24] Fantastic. That's four-wheel drive, this is rear-wheel drive and it kept up all the way. So then, what exactly happened while the slow motion action replay shows that the Lamborghini just beat the Ferrari for both cars completing the standing quarter mile

[11:36] to 10 seconds dead. Is this really fast enough, this Lamborghini? What's that video there? It answers that question. Anyway, I say a huge thank you to Sean's guys for lending us this car.
