[00:31] Garage. The car we're featuring today, a brand new 1993 Fox Body Mustang 5 L. When I say brand new, I mean brand new. This car has less than 500 miles on it. All we did was put new tires on it today because the original tires are almost 30

[00:47] what's the story on this car? Well, it belongs to a friend of ours, a man you know well. He loves this era of cars. He grew up with these kind of cars. These are the cars he lusted after as a young man. You know him as Fluffy Gabriel

[01:01] man. You know him as Fluffy Gabriel Glacius. Gabriel, come on out. Gabe. >> doing? Good, man. Doing good. Thanks for having me back.

[01:13] [laughter] All right, forget that. Uh, so tell us it? Uh, well, I've had this car a little over a month and uh I haven't really had >> put any miles on it. I might have taken it around the block because the tires

[01:29] >> Yeah. Well, we just put new tires on. Well, see, it's interesting because when Chevy guy because you had a lot of early Chevys, but you're more an early 90s guy. Late 80s, early 90s. These are the cars that impacted you as a youth.

[01:43] after. Okay. >> Yeah. This is, you know, 93. It's the last year that they made this body style and then it changed to that newer style that the one other car that I had here. But but I I've become addicted to these

[01:56] low mile cars from uh from my generation. So this definitely was a car that I wanted back in high school as well as the other Mustang uh that was out there. So I got my hands on this one and I'm I'm excited because I don't want

[02:08] it to keep the same mileage on it. I plan on driving it. I want to take it this was the hot car back in the day, a 302 V8, 225 horsepower, which seems like

[02:21] six-cylinder time nowadays, but back then, this is a pretty powerful car. up. And the fact that it's manual transmission, you get a little extra. >> Yeah. Yeah. All right. Well, look, let me show us around the car. Let me

[02:35] >> Yeah, I was going to say, >> yeah, just a mere whisper of a thing. [laughter] >> it's a beautiful car. This This car was actually This style of car, the exact look of it was featured in one of your

[02:49] Society. >> Oh, all right. Menace to Society. >> Menace to Society. Yes. Well, you know, it's a good looking car because this is when American cars started to get serious about interiors. When I look at

[03:01] a lot of the cars from the 80s, Camaros, Mustangs, they seem real plasticky with the velour. This, you know, it's got I think this is leather. This has got leather. It just looks a bit more upscale. Looks very

[03:15] >> It looks very sexy, Jay is what it does. You know, we're talking about lustful cars. This, let's be honest, it just it's a very sexy interior. Super clean. >> It's just hard for me to picture you having sex in the interior.

[03:30] >> I just said sexy, J. Okay. Yeah, >> sexy. But since the top is down, >> Yeah. Yeah, that would be anything possible. Well, okay. [laughter] Let's Let's talk about Let's talk. And you wanted a 5-speed. Do you want a 5-speed

[03:42] >> I didn't care. I I just more than anything, I love the fact that the miles are so low that it is a new car. It is literally me going back in time and buying one of the cars that I wanted and the fact that it's only 500 miles,

[03:54] actually 468. Uh I didn't care if it was automatic or or you know, manual. was a hot car, were you thinking of "Oh, I'll get a job in a factory. I'll get a job selling stuff." What what did

[04:07] man? >> For me, in 1994, I did know that I I know how that was going to happen. Uh, at the time, I I finished high school department for Robinson's May. >> Well, that's the first step in show

[04:23] >> Working in the credit department. So, uh, I didn't know. Uh, so I had a couple afford something like this back then. >> Right. Okay. Well, that's Well, you >> It's pretty decent before 50, too. >> Yeah. very proud of you. The

[04:37] >> 450 you've been incredibly successful. It's really good. So, you want to go get. The Nintendo game, the car, all So, you're basically 12.

[04:50] And uh >> Well, I like this one. This Well, I like all your cars, but this one is It looks right. It has a nice stance. It sits nice. It's got the manual gearbox. And although today 225 horsepower doesn't

[05:03] sound like much, this is a pretty light car compared to modern cars. You know, equipment, so doors are a bit thicker. So, it's a little heavier all the way around. So, this would probably the equivalent be something new with maybe

[05:16] 350 horsepower with the weight difference. So, it's very Do you have any choice in the color or were there a lot of cars like this with this low unicorn? >> There were other options for it, but

[05:29] this color is just it's so pretty. And yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of convertibles just cuz that's that's not me. But this one, I'm like, you know so cool. >> And again, your favorite movie, Menace

[05:42] >> Yeah, the the rims were a little bit different. something else. >> Book was good. Now, you seem like a convertible guy. Why not? I mean, you're outgoing. You're friendly. Why Why is a

[05:54] >> Cuz you get a little sunburned, Jay. And you know, if you try to wear a hat, it gets blown off with uh not having a a top on. And so, uh, I can only hang for >> Oh, stop it. >> So [laughter] the hat, so the hat the

[06:06] >> So the hat doesn't get the get the lift right there. Yeah. >> But no, this this car is just it's a lot of fun. And uh I I I already made a not going to really see it, but it it has a sound system in it that that that

[06:21] I I wanted back in the '9s. And uh yeah, I made sure that when >> Was it a sound system available in the '9s? Uh yeah, the kind of power that it vibrate. >> All right. Okay. All right. Very good.

[06:34] this out? >> Yeah, let's take it out. Put a few miles on it. This has discs in front, drums in the back. We're still in that era. You the back. We're still in that era. You know, you realize how long ago 93 was. I

[06:47] payoneses. Computers were here. Computers were here. >> Dialup. You'd hear the noise. >> A fax machine. That was my life when I

[07:00] would have writers fax me jokes or fax me material. You know, when Johnny was to pigeons. >> Well, no, they had to [laughter] write their jokes in Burbank, drive to Johnny's house in Malibu at like 9:00 at

[07:14] night and hand him the jokes and then go back to the office. Yeah. So, >> Yeah, it really is. time. >> Kids don't even know what a fax machine is anymore. But [laughter] >> but it's still uh and it's it's 5 L.

[07:27] That's a 302 cubic inch. You know, nice looking car. You got even got the >> like if you were going to put stuff on there to to tie down that protector to >> Right. Right. Very nice. Well, you mentioned the sound system, but this is

[07:40] end. Let's open that up. >> I guess I guess we could look under the >> I guess I guess we could look under the hood. [laughter] I know licensing music and stuff like that, we can't really show that. But

[08:08] >> everything else is stock. >> And a convertible with air conditioning. That was the height of sophistication in the '9s. That was pretty cool. >> Yeah. Top down with the AC. I do it. >> I do it. 5 liter HO high output. Yeah,

[08:21] it's it's it's a nice complete package. And this and this is the last year of The 93 Fox body, >> right? >> Yeah. Very cool. Yeah. Had a pretty successful run. These were highway

[08:33] patrol cars. You know, back in the 80s, California Highway Patrol bought a whole bunch of these to catch speeders like up in Malibu and up on the Crest. And they ran ads. The Ford that catches Porsches. That was the idea. the cops would chase

[08:48] you down in your in your Porsche with this at at the time I think it was 180 know, hilarious. >> I mean, it looks a little busy in there, but not so busy. At least it's not a big sheet of plastic covering everything,

[09:02] >> right? And again, it's all stock, so I didn't do anything but add a radio to brake. >> Really nice radio. >> Yeah, nice car. Nice combination of performance and cruisability. Very cool.

[09:15] a ride. >> I love that with all the things on it, >> still use the stick. A very sophisticated >> piece of technology there. All right. And release.

[09:29] >> And nice thing about it is you got four seats and a fullsize trunk. So, you can to put in here. Golf bag or >> pretty much whatever you want to take >> Except for this one. >> I assume that is not stock.

[09:43] >> Uh, yeah. Yeah. No, that did not come with the uh with the 93 for Dawn, so I assume [laughter] that's why you >> That's that's exactly what I bump on that. That's for Tony Orlando and Dawn.

[10:52] usually do 90 minutes, maybe an hour and a little under two hours. >> And I find nobody remembers. I've had people come and say, "I saw your show "No, I don't. I mean, maybe a third knew, you know. I mean, I I'm not

[11:06] talking about Reagan's trip to Pittsburgh anymore, but you know, but I >> down that wall, >> for the most part, the only place they could have heard the joke was from me. >> So, consequently, people forget after,

[11:19] show, do you remember all the jokes? >> Mhm. But I mean you yourself though, with me I get I get bored with this, you know, after a year I'm like ah just let

[11:31] me let me let it go and work on something else. You know I just I just something else. You know I just I just try to find stuff that works with every conceivable audience because your situation is different.

[11:44] You've got tons of fans and they're all fans. You're not doing a corporate date where people aren't sure who you are or what you do. Where you have to do, you know, you follow what I'm saying? A lot of time I'll go to date and they go, "I

[11:57] you just like, I thought you going to come out with a chair and interview "No, I mean, they're surprised that you're a comedian, you know? I mean, that's what I get sometimes." It's like, uh, the whole comedy thing is what got

[12:09] me that that that that gig. >> Yeah. Yeah. [laughter] And then some sometimes stuff just falls by the wayside. you move on to something else. But by not doing specials, I just find that I always know where my act is.

[12:24] >> keep cranking out stuff. You've done a really handled it well. You do all the right things. right things. It's just risque enough not to be dirty.

[12:37] It It's like It's like naughty at best, you know, and so you get a family audience. So you get the dads like it, the grandmothers like it really kind of the inside jokes for the adults but still entertaining to the youth.

[12:52] I mean I think I think you've done a wonderful job. >> You know, it feels like a lot more than 225 horsepower. >> Uh the way that you step on the gas J, it does feel like more than 225

[13:05] >> I like that part where you can't figure out which lane you want to be in, so you >> Right. >> Exactly. Exactly. [laughter] >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Just ride the line. Ride that that right there. You're not

[13:19] side. You're you're both sides. Exactly. >> You are both sides. different trims. I've seen the the cream trim. Uh I seen one that had white in it. This one's all blacked out. >> Yeah. I like this one.

[13:33] >> I don't get white interiors, especially in a convertible, cuz it just gets >> Yeah. And you know, I'm always doing something under the hood. And then again, now the steering wheel is all black from grease.

[13:46] black from grease. >> Yeah. >> Oh, this thing is good. >> This is becoming the modern Mustang. I mean, Mustang's a real sports car now. That GTD I got is unbelievable. But you

[14:02] see the early beginnings of it here. you know, you know, handle the manual way it drives, the way suspension's set up. manual transmission. Or is it? >> No, it's an automatic.

[14:20] >> The cool thing about Mustang is you can have whatever you want. You want a luxury car, you want a cruiser, you can fit it like an SL, Mercedes, or you can fit it out like a sports car, you know, but you got that 90 suspension when you

[14:34] hit those bumps. >> I felt that. That that was a very nostalgic bump. That's [laughter] kidney punch. Cobra, right? >> And I I got the uh 60th anniversary

[14:49] >> And I I got the uh 60th anniversary Mustang. So what is the last year you don't want a car from? Like you go 93, is it 2000? Nothing after that. I mean established you could buy whatever you want. So what what's still out there

[15:05] that you didn't get that you that you wish you could have gotten at the time? Not so much the car, but like I really like the Cyclone and I like the Typhoon almost like a sleeper, but they're they're so powerful. Well, the Cyclone

[15:19] is a weird, but I've got one of those. And you sit both upright. You can't put the the seat doesn't go back at all. So, and it's too light for heavy work and too heavy for light work. I mean, that's what it is. It's not really a truck cuz

[15:32] >> Yeah. Well, there you go. [laughter] There you go. Yeah, exactly. Tell me >> Why do I feel like that bank used to be a Taco Bell? it? [laughter] >> I always like when you see that. You go,

[15:46] tell that I don't think they meant for that to look like that. Uh I was thinking about that earlier, you know, and it's like I always wanted the iRock Mustang, I got the Mustang, and then I got this Mustang, which is like the, you

[15:59] know, it's the Fox body and then the the new style and then now I got the uh the 60th anniversary one. And like >> I think I got everything I wanted realistically. I I I got myself a a Skyline uh not too long ago and it's a

[16:14] it was a 2009. >> Yeah. And it's beautiful. And I mean that that car, it almost feels like um EV with the amount of torque and just >> It's probably the fastest car that I have.

[16:27] >> I'm more of a cruiser. And clearly you uh you like speed. speed. >> You like to cruise at high speeds. just the Volkswagen guy. And yes, I love those cars. I love them. They're

[16:40] >> But uh you know, I also have a love for for Mustangs. And me. No. >> Uh, you know, I am a fan of the Camaro, >> never did it for me. >> Yeah. Yeah.

[16:55] liked about Camaro was the sill was always up here. You couldn't put your arm out the window, you know, especially in the later ones. You're like this all the time. >> What is the longest you had to uh wait

[17:09] >> What is the longest you had to uh wait to get a car like a restored? to get a car like a restored? Well, we do it ourselves. So, I've got cuz you work on it for a while, then go off on another project and then you get

[17:23] all bummed out cuz how hard it is and you know, so I waited quite a while for you know, so I waited quite a while for my uh turbine car, you know, my turbine carbine. Yeah. as the engine melted down and we found 60 guys from the original

[17:37] crew all over the age of 80 >> and they said for the parts you know it was like that movie Cocoon with all the old guys in the work and one guy was 94 in a wheelchair you know all screwed up but

[17:52] sharp sharp as attack physically he couldn't do much but oh they were wonderful they were just a great group of guys cuz they worked this was their passion they got out of high school. They were working on crisis experimental

[18:05] turban program and when it ended it just ended like that's it guys program shut down. What what you know and so the the idea they could go back and work on it again was kind of a cool thing for me. I every now and then I'll get a car you

[18:19] know have a car worked on. The Volkswagen is usually the one that, you know, I take time with it. But for the most part, other cars that I want to like fix up and get restored, they've taken so long it gets discouraging,

[18:31] which which is one of the reasons why I started buying these low mile cars. I'm like, let me just buy it new. >> Yeah. Like, >> I want to drive it right now. >> And so, I'm I'm very impatient in that

[18:45] arguments with these some of the, you know, guys that do the restorations. and ready next year. It'll be ready next two weeks turn into four weeks, four weeks turn into a half a year and you

[18:59] weeks turn into a half a year and you know, and in the end the they deliver >> that's what made me fall in love with the Toyota. >> Yeah. Bulletproof. >> Well, you know, this is actually quite

[19:11] sporty. It handles pretty nicely. >> It's gripping pretty good. >> New tires. How did you feel when Ford called the uh How did you feel when Ford called the uh that electric SUV a Mustang?

[19:27] Did that feel like a disservice to the brand? Well, you know, in the real world, you got to make money. And the electric Mustang has outsold the regular Mustang because a lot of people like the

[19:40] excitement and everything in the name associated with Mustang, but they want the practicality of an electric car without having to pay for gasoline. So, I mean, that's kind of why they do it. It's like Porsche. When Porsche made an

[19:53] SUV, people went, "Oh, it's not a Porsche." No, but it allowed them to con continue to build the 911 because you can only sell too many. You can only sell so many two-seater over $100,000 sports cars. You got to sell regular

[20:07] cars, you know, just to just to stay in the business, you know. mean? >> Yeah. Exactly. [laughter] Exactly. You know, you're 100% correct. >> I got a chance to talk to uh Farley. We

[20:21] did did a podcast together. Nice guy. >> You know, he's Chris Farley's guy. >> Yes. >> He used to come with Chris with Chris when Chris was on the Tonight Show with me.

[22:43] loses its you think you got to switch out the shocks cuz this is very bouncy. >> It is bouncy. Yeah, that's what happens. You lose like 1 or 2% every year. You know, my Porsche career was like that. I go down the road and I'm Why am I

[22:56] my god, it's like a brand new car. But it's nice and tight. I mean, everything because it is. >> Yeah. There's no play in that steering >> Yeah. Scar feels good.

[23:13] >> Do you ever feature motorcycles? >> We've done motorcycles in the past and age 75, I can't be falling down as much as I used to. You know, when you go down on a motorcycle now, Jesus, it hurts. >> Are you a fan of trikes?

[23:26] >> No, I don't get the trike thing because you get the worst of both worlds. [laughter] >> You know, you don't have cars and a and the >> ability to dart in and out like a

[23:39] a trike, you forget you're in a trike. You realize, geez, I almost touched that guy's car with my rear fender here. Cuz your fender's out here, but you're your fender's out here, but you're sitting like this, you know?

[24:08] power brake, power steering, convertible, >> electric windows, uh, all the options, upgraded stereo. >> Yeah. How How much do you think it was? >> I'm thinking it was maybe what? 28 to

[24:22] >> was 23. >> Yeah. Isn't that funny? >> Doesn't that seem cheap now? >> But you didn't have 23 back in 19. >> No, I did not. I And I promise you, this car did not cost me 23.

[24:35] car did not cost me 23. >> Yeah. Yeah. [laughter] >> I feel like it's right around the same price >> probably. Yeah. You know, like to me when I was a kid in the 60s,

[24:50] when I was a kid in the 60s, a $500 car would now be a $5,000 car. Everything is 10 times more expensive than it was in the 60s. >> Houses were 60,000. Now they're 600,000. When I came to

[25:03] California in the valley, I would see houses >> Now those are million dollar plus houses. is very nice car. >> I'm watching the the shifting. It's so

[25:17] >> It still looks like crisp with the You know, sometimes you got to struggle with these older cars to find the bushings. I mean, everything's brand new in the in >> I mean, the transmission just sits with lubricant in it, so it's not going to

[25:31] rust or get condensation. >> It's the perfect California day. >> This is why you live here. This is why for is the weather. >> It is trying to figure out. All right.

[25:45] What are the other perks? That's about [laughter] it. >> That's it. You know, you pay to have the top down. I was on my phone the other up and some steam engine car on the freeway.

[25:59] >> You know, you have no idea where you Well, I see you too in the same thing. like, where is he off to in that car? I just drive around. probably going home. >> So, I got to tell you, uh, SEMA has

[26:14] taken over for my, uh, favorite type of convention. >> This last year, I was just I had such a good time. >> Such a good time. >> Everybody was super nice. It's a

[26:26] different vibe than ComicCon >> cuz I'm I'm a big nerd, so I love toys. I love, you know, stuff like that, but I also love cars. So, over the, you know, by the booth. Chip Foo's coming over and say hi. Like, are

[26:40] you freaking kidding me? It was awesome. Just a good guy. >> I love toy conventions, car conventions, but SEMA was really a lot of fun. And to do it two years back to back, >> you know, I wasn't sure what to expect

[26:54] >> and then that second time, I'm like, okay, >> maybe it's my imagination, but this feels much tighter than an equal car from the 80s. Even an 80s car that was like this new,

[27:08] they all seem more rattlebang to me. >> Detroit was Yeah, they really were getting their act together by by the end of the 20th century. >> Nothing loose. Sounds solid. Feels great.
