09:36[00:00] On Tuesday, September 29th, Game Informer released their cover story for the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6. Now, we don't have our hands on a physical copy of that issue yet. However, we do have the digital version, so I figured this week we'd dig through this issue
[00:16] and pull out all the biggest details for GTA 6. all right so i'm not going to read you the entire article word for word if you want to do that i
[00:32] recommend subscribing to game informer it's well worth it in my opinion but anyway what i did do is i pulled some of the biggest things mentioned and some smaller details i noticed and we're going to go through that so the first thing i noticed was there was a quote and it says
[00:46] When an easy score goes wrong, the pair must unravel a larger criminal conspiracy across Vice City and Leonida. That seems like the setup of the game. Now, if you've played any GTA game, that's usually how they start,
[01:00] but it's kind of nice getting, like, official, official confirmation that, I imagine, the way this game is going to start is you're going to be going about your business, probably starting as Jason, since it seems like Lucia is going to start out in prison,
[01:13] and you're just going about your business. Lucia gets out you get a score because they both want to live better wealthier lives it's supposed to be simple maybe it's just a simple robbery and then they
[01:25] get caught and this unravels an entire mystery that spans all of Leonida as you sort of get to the bottom of it meanwhile running away from cops sounds like standard GTA fair but I'm sure there will be a lot of nuance in there
[01:37] cool missions that propel you towards that conclusion All right, so another thing that people have been speculating a lot on, and I think some of these numbers or specifics might already be out there due to leaks, but they did confirm that Leonida GTA 6 is twice as big as GTA 5.
[02:00] It is the biggest map Rockstar has ever created by, quote, some degree. I have a hard time fathoming a world bigger and more detailed than Red Dead Redemption 2 because, you know, I know there are bigger games than Red Dead Redemption 2,
[02:13] but that map was huge. And the pace you move through that map was a little slow, so it probably feels bigger than it would if you, you know, could drive a car that goes 90 miles an hour. But in that sense, the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 felt massive.
[02:27] There were so many different biomes, different regions, different cultures and the fact that they've gone even bigger seems impressive. And I'm super curious to see how all these different areas of the map sort of fit together in order to create one unifying Leonida Now regarding the map one detail that we did get is that the map is divided into six major sections It sounds like there are more parts of the map that you be able to
[02:51] explore, but from Loxah themselves, they kind of think of the map as six areas, and we have them here. Vice City, obviously, Vice City, the main city based on Miami, that I imagine you'll be
[03:03] spending the most of your time in, depending on how you choose to play. The Leonida Keys, Grass Rivers, which is this game's version of the Everglades. Fort Gellhorn, which represents smaller towns that kind of double as touristy traps in Florida.
[03:18] Ambrosia, which is considered the heart of Leonida. This is where a lot of the factories and distilleries are. I imagine there will be some TV warehouse shootouts around this area. And then the Mount Calaga National Park. This is where a majority of the nature is.
[03:32] It sounds like this is where you'll find a lot of off-roading events. But in addition to that, it sounds like there will be a wealthier side of this area, with folks who have their own landing strips, for example. I don't know if that's actually going to be in the game, but that was an example thrown out in the article.
[03:47] A small detail that we got is that the rideshare app is called RideMe, spelled R-Y-D-E-N-E. It sounds like if you are taking one of these rideshare apps with another character, you're able to chat with them for a bit.
[03:59] So I have to imagine you can call a ride share and you can literally just sit in the back and hang out as, you know, listen to music, whatever, doomsroll on your phone as you get from point A to point B.
[04:11] This is kind of cool. I always appreciated GTA 4 and that, you know, actually have to hail a cab. You could skip the ride if you wanted, but you can also just sit there and just kind of take in the vibes of Liberty City.
[04:23] I appreciate that. Seems like it's going to be the same case here, except it's 2026, not 2008, 2007 when GTA 4 came out. So now, of course, there's rideshare apps. All right, so probably the most fascinating section in this article is the spread about weather.
[04:40] So there's a lot of details here that I think are really interesting that we don't know much about. So Florida has some of the most turbulent weather of any state in the United States. And it sounds like Lockstar is really trying their best to capture that aspect of it.
[04:55] And here's some of the details we got from that. So weather is dynamic and localized, meaning that weather doesn't just happen in your vicinity. If you are flying a plane or maybe you have a view of the entire state,
[05:09] you can see thunderstorms in the distance, you can see rainstorms, you can see where it's sunny. So all this is happening concurrently while you are exploring. That seems like pretty interesting tech, probably taxing too, very difficult to develop a system like that,
[05:24] but I think that interesting and it helps the world feel more alive If the conditions of these storms are right when it over a dynamic rainbow can be formed But in addition to that after a rainstorm as the sun pokes through, you'll still see evidence of the rainstorm around. That means puddles will linger
[05:40] for a bit, the sidewalks will be slicked with water, I imagine characters and their hair will also be wet. So you'll be able to tell if there was just a rainstorm in the area that you are exploring. That's kind of neat. So speaking of storms, it sounds like wind has gotten an overhaul
[05:54] since Red Dead Redemption 2. It feels a little ridiculous saying it's just wind, but it sounds like Rockstar really went the extra mile with making sure wind is realistic and the way objects react to wind.
[06:07] Your hair will blow in the wind. Clothes might move in the wind. It seems like the wind is important, but the wind isn't just blowing one direction and it's just affecting everything globally. It seems like, once again, it's more localized and depending on where you are,
[06:20] depending on the weather and environment, the wind can change and affect objects in different ways. For instance, if it's windy over a body of water, you can see ripples on the water. Probably the coolest detail in the weather section is that
[06:33] they are also trying to recreate hurricanes and tropical storms. Now, if you live in the United States, you probably know that Florida is known for its crazy storms, and it sounds like those will be present in GTA 6. What we don't know is that if there will be any gameplay implications
[06:49] to these storms. I have to imagine there would be to some extent, like I don't know if a really strong gust of wind would affect your driving or maybe slick asphalt could affect it. But also,
[07:01] I wonder if like there could be flooding, right? One thing they did mention is that when there is a tropical storm, you will see gutters overflow and you will see water just everywhere. So I'm super curious to see what that exactly entails. Will like specific routes be blocked due to
[07:15] flooding, perhaps, or maybe if you're trying to off-road, it'll be insanely muddy. We don't know, but I'm really curious to see how those details actually appear in-game, and if they affect the
[07:27] player. So, in this issue, there was also a spread showing off the key characters. Most of that information we already know, but there were a couple notes on Jason and Lucia that I thought were kind of interesting. It sounds like Jason's story does, in fact, start in the Reunited Keys.
[07:40] We kind of got this impression based on one of the trailers, as he's driving around, completing smaller jobs, but this seems to confirm it. Now for Lucia, one detail that was mentioned that we already knew is that she's actually from Liberty City and she's moved to Leonida.
[07:54] However, it also mentioned that the reason she ended up in prison has something to do with her family. It's very mysterious. We don't know exactly what caused this, but I have to imagine that will be one of her character arcs in the story is sort of getting to the bottom of what happened
[08:07] and why she ended up in prison and the backstory around that Thank you But would they look that good There are over 170 species 60 of which are birds over 30 land mammals plus a bunch of fish and reptiles Some animals that were specifically called
[08:24] out in this issue are manatees, flamingos, pelicans, alligators, feral cats, cane toads, armadillos, non-native monkeys, sharks, whales, rays, turtles, and jellyfish. I
[08:36] think if you break down the trailer you'll probably see some other animals as well, but those are the ones that were called out, so I figured I'd list them here too. Another interesting detail is that animal fur is reactive and can be wet and matted with dirt and pressed
[08:51] down. It seems like the fur on animals has their own physics as well and reactions, which is just crazy. All right, and moving on to the confirmed activities. I think a lot of these you can see in action in the trailer, but some of these I don't actually remember seeing, but here they are.
[09:05] Base jumping, billiards, gyms, kayaking, racing, zoos, airboating, jet skiing, and mini golfing. Alright, and finally, the last thing the article touches on are NPCs.
[09:17] Now, some of this, again, we already know, this seems to be the most diverse set of NPCs in any game ever. It sounds like a bunch of different body styles, busts, heights are all represented in this game. But what I think is even more interesting that they mention in the article is that the look of an NPC isn't just entirely randomized.
[09:36] There are a lot of factors at play, and one of which comes down to location. Where is this NPC from? What area of Leonida do they exist in? And then a lot of features about them will represent that. For instance, different areas of Leonida have different clothing styles, different tattoos, different haircuts, even down to the sneakers.
[09:53] So it sounds like depending on where you are, you'll see a different flavor of NPCs. which, to some extent, I feel like GTA games have been doing this for a long time, right? Like, if you go to the beach, characters are in their bathing suit.
[10:06] But it seems like this has just turned up to 11, where they are factoring in all these different details in order to generate an NPC that fits that area. Anyway, those are the biggest and most interesting takeaways I got from the Game Informer issue.
[10:20] Overall, I have to say, it just seems like this article really doubles down on the attention to detail that Rockstar has kind of already talked about, but we're just getting more and more details. I didn't get a good impression if the writer, Marcus Stewart,
[10:33] shout out to Marcus Stewart, actually got to see the game in action. It sounded like he just got to do a series of interviews. I could be wrong. Either way, a lot of great details in here. If you're really excited for GTA, I highly recommend picking up this issue.
[10:46] I imagine it'll be in Barnes & Nobles or bookstores sometime soon. Probably not yet, though, because usually the digital edition drops first, and then those physical copies start to roll out. Anyway, we'll be back next week with more GTA,
[10:59] so we'll see you next time.
