Insight into how the trailer may mislead about episode scope.
07:28[00:00] Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers Show. I'm your host, Paul. In this video, we're breaking down House of the Dragon. The episode 5 trailer for season 3 is now out online, and in this video,
[00:14] we're going to be breaking it all down. However, there is a caveat. The trailer I do wonder if this is in fact a trailer showing all the events for the rest of the season instead
[00:26] of just the next episode because it looks like a lot happens if it's just next week. Anyway, let's do that now. My patience has its bounds. Have I not shown you mercy? This is finished.
[00:51] Rea has the throne. It is she who rules now. We should have burned them when we had the chance. The cunning mind can resist the most savage of beasts. Rene has defiled our great house,
[01:07] diminished the iron throne. She is no queen. We have endured much. And though we languish, we will not lose half. We will join them glorious in battle.
[01:28] And they will sing songs of it forward. Stand your ground. Okay. So, in the past, the teasers have kind of served as this linear thing where you can
[01:44] kind of follow the narrative based on the order on how stuff is shown. However, this kind of comes across a bit more like a montage. Again, if this is definitely the latter half of the season, then I think that makes more sense with how it's presented. The tone is very grim though
[01:58] and completely relentless, and we get quick cuts of the characters in the war. It all builds towards a battle between the blacks and greens with the winter wolves as well. we really see what the civil war is leading to and the Greens ultimately being on the backfoot.
[02:11] That's how we kick things off with Kristen on his knees inside a dragon footprint on the ground. He then looks up to the sky realizing that death could come at any moment. We then see Reneer at her small council saying her patience has its bounds and we see a burned camp out in the forest.
[02:25] It's possible that this is Kristen and the gangs and then that got basically torn up by a dragon. The dragon left the footprint and then the next day Kristen is all covered in ash looking up at the sky. We then see Allison playing with her Faith of the Seven necklace, possibly wondering
[02:40] if the gods will even save her. This is mirrored by Agon playing with what I believe is a knife and he's possibly thinking of killing his bullies. Now, I do think that instead of using a knife, he'll rise up with Sunfire and then come flaming down upon them as he reveals who he is. To him,
[02:54] Sunfire was still alive and the Targaryenss and dragons were said to have a psychic link. So, I feel like Sunfire will sense his riders in danger and then come to his rescue. Either way, that takes us to the weeks ahead bit. And for this breakdown, I kind of want to group the
[03:08] shots together rather than just doing them in the order that they appear. I think that'll be the best way to do the narrative and kind of tie each of the points together since it jumps back and forth. Now, the first big thing I want to talk about is Rene saying, "This is finished." I
[03:22] actually think that this might be her discovering that Sheepstealer and Raina were behind the death of Jace. Dragons appear throughout the teaser, including shots of Raina at the veil. Rene also appears to be in Grand War Get Up here and out in the field. So, I do think this might be off
[03:36] the back of a dragon fight. The next shot of Caraxis and Damon, could potentially tie into this as well with him deciding to defend his daughter. In the book, Damon and Nettles, who Rea is based upon, they were basically getting it on H. And Rene found out and wanted
[03:50] her head. So he kind of ends up moving away from Reneer and going off and doing his own thing, which I think could be happening here. If you look at the big shot of Raina, you can also see two flying creatures in the background. It could be birds or it could be Caraxis and Cirax with
[04:05] them possibly fighting while flying towards her. That doesn't happen in the book though. So yeah, again, might just be some birds. Her leadership is in a bit of a crisis, though, as though she sits on the Iron Throne. She's got no money. Her enemies are still alive. The religions don't like
[04:20] her. The people probably won't like her soon. The house lords don't like her. And there's even some internal betrayals within her house. In the book, there's a lot of potential fallout from Tumbleton. And I think that's what will likely happen in episode 5 and then build towards them storming
[04:35] it. We also do get a theory time debunked here and see that Aean is all good and gravy. I did say in our video that I thought he might end up being mutated. But yeah, it looks like he's normal and recovering on a on the road to health. He snuggles up to Alice throughout the teaser and
[04:50] in the book the pair even have a child. Not much is known of this character and they don't really follow up on things, but it is possible that this could end up being Brendan Rivers. It's clear she wants him for something else though as she lied about the character being there. So, I do think
[05:02] they might have a couple of nights. Aean will go through his um Luigi's Mansion trip that you have whenever you go to Harrenhal and then they'll fall in love and he'll probably not really enter the conflict again until later down the line. As for Tumbleton, we see that elf and Hugh have joined
[05:17] together outside the gates. In case you don't know, they end up switching to the Greens. And I think this might come down to two big things that happened in the last episode. Personally, I think Cat's brother's death might even be blamed on Reneer. as we know that from Cat's eyes. Orman's
[05:31] a really nice guy that always hits the thumbs up. So, I think she'll get the blame for that. If they attack the city and Cat's inside, Hugh will be like, "What the [ __ ] going on? I didn't sign up for this. That's my wife." Um, so yeah, I do think these will all be reasons why he ends up turning
[05:46] coat. As for Alf, like they're probably going to get him some beer or something and and that'll be enough for him. Darren is also looking out of a window in front of the green forces while Orund is strategizing away. Orman in the show has been painted as a very cunning enemy who's really good
[06:02] at scheming. The book portrays him as capable but ultimately a doomed commander. However, the show has him more as an antagonist scheming around supplanting Darren on the throne and ousting not only Rene but also Darren's brothers. In the book, Darren is a brave
[06:16] young prince who fights honorably with Tesarian, whereas the show paints him out as being very, very reluctant. Orman is kind of the devil on his shoulder who wants to influence him as much as he can. In the book, Orman's army marches towards Tumbleton, and that comes after winning a
[06:31] battle at Honeywine. However, I did wonder if they might have flipped the order, and from the clips, I did start to think, could they be doing this battle after? I'm not sure exactly what battle is shown in the teaser, but it would make sense to have that in the season at some point. It's
[06:46] the bloodiest onland battle in the entire war, and I was quite surprised that they just skipped it completely. I think they might have that go down, though, and potentially Hugh and Ulf are now fighting for the Greens. Reneira might even then have to accept Rainor and Sheepsteeler
[06:59] because they'd have a dragon on their side that could possibly even the playing fields, but this is a massive fight and the Winter Wolves are going to play a big part in it as well. I love the way we see them lace throughout the teaser and yeah, just great seeing that Stark banner
[07:13] as per usual. We see lots of Rivlin banners as well at the 36 second mark and it shows that all the houses are taking part conflict. Kristen also appears there too and it seems like this might be what the whole season's building towards. There's also Allan marching out from King's Landing, and I
[07:28] think this will probably be a big fight in episode seven or eight. Now, looking at the structure as well, it might even be them taking Tumbleton. If you look at the 21 second mark, you can see the kinds of towers they have here. Jumping to the 55 second mark, there is those sort of structures to
[07:42] the side of the arches. We also end the teaser with Orman and Armor inside the gates with Damon attacking someone inside what appears to be the walls as well. So perhaps this is the sacking of the town. May also bring in the Riverlands battles as well. and have it all culminate here along with
[07:56] the events that have spun out from the reach. It's difficult to tell as the editing is very fast-paced and designed to avoid major spoilers while confirming that the second half of season 3 will deliver the large-scale battles and emotional gut punches that fans of course want. Though this
[08:12] is labeled as the episode 5 trailer, I think episode 5 probably serves as a bridge between Tumbleton and what we're seeing here. Or yeah, they they could just say s it and go all out. Who gives a [ __ ] about the budget? But yeah, the trailer positions what's coming as an allout war
[08:29] and yeah, they maybe even finish with the smaller political entries. Anyway, there's definitely the feeling of escalation and building towards the visceral large-scale conflicts that fans expect and one from the dance of the dragons, Reneer's frustration, Damon's family reckoning,
[08:45] Orman's scheming, Aean's return, Kristen fighting out in fields and stuff, everything going down. There's a lot of things that are going to happen in the rest of the season. Helena, I haven't even
[08:57] touched upon her, but yeah, Helena and Egon, there's lots of things going on. Maybe Laris even asking to kiss that guy's foot. Who knows? But the Tumbleton fallout will be a big testing time for the characters, and it will launch the show towards even darker territory. But yeah,
[09:12] the trailer left me desperate to see more, and I'd of course love to hear your thoughts below as to follow us on Instagram and keep up to date with what we're doing, then make sure that you
[09:24] check us out at Heavy Spoilers. Did you know as well that members of the channel also get early least one breakdown a week, a week before anyone else. Cost just 99 cents a month. We're running
[09:36] it as cheap as we can. And for that, you get at least one big breakdown a week every single week. Like 25 cent a breakdown if you calculate that over the month. But it makes a massive difference to the channel and I really really appreciate it. So, thank you if you do that. Now,
[09:50] if you want something else to watch, we've got our big breakdown of the episode 4 on screen that? What the hell's wrong with you? Do you put your underpants on outside your pants, you crazy
[10:02] devil? I don't like you anymore. Hopefully, I see you over there, though. You take care. Peace.
