hello hello and welcome to the stream today i just want to hang really but i'll start the stream off with some value uh the value i want to deliver today is i want to talk about how to get a raise at your job a lot of people are underpaid uh you saw a few maybe you saw a few of our other courses like i see framework where we're talking to international freelancers so one of my big
passions in life is helping people get paid more and it starts with understanding that you are underpaid starts with understanding that you are drastically underpaid and i'll tell you uh i'll tell you a little tale here i used to be a junior salesperson at the last company that i actually worked for at a full-time job and i was being paid like four thousand a month five thousand a month like something tiny and eventually i got fed
up with it and i haven't actually told this full story before of how i became the director of uh marketing i've told like kind of in pieces but not like this so the way that i i was able to secure that job was the whole time that i was a sales guy the entire time i was collecting little bits little testimonials from people because i knew i wanted to get into marketing i knew i didn't want
to just fully be a salesperson the whole time and so eventually after i'd gathered enough data i met with my boss and i presented this plan to him of how i was gonna change the business forever i was gonna generate a bunch of leads for the agency and he turned me down i was like hey one day you know maybe i could do uh you know have a team of interns that i could manage and he
told me maybe in maybe in three years you know you're not even ready right now you're not even close maybe in three years you'll get a team of interns you're not ready so most people in this situation would be disheartened i was a little disheartened at the situation um so i went back and i kept doing my job for a while until uh while i was while i was doing that i realized i needed to actually
up skill like i was thinking like why did he turn me down and so the whole time i was posting on quora and i was trying to promote our agency and drive drive some leads that way and eventually we started getting some bytes as leads were coming in eventually the not my manager but his boss started wondering where all these leads were coming from and i pointed them to the the quora questions because you could see
on our google analytics inside the agency site that a lot of our leads were coming from quora and so i showed him that and he was like you know i guess he realized that i knew something about about marketing a little bit something about marketing so he asked me to put a plan together and i went back into the lab you know i went back to my desk and over about a week i did a crash
course in everything uh agency marketing i learned about all the different channels that needed to exist i learned about everything uh that needed to be there and keep in mind i was making four thousand five thousand a month um it's not not the greatest salary in america and i put together this plan uh type this whole thing out and after coming up with the pricing and everything um for for the marketing budget it ended up being
75 000 a quarter was the final price that i put on this proposal so this meeting was coming up with the big boss all right ceo the company founder of the company i was shaking you know my palms were sweaty uh knees weak arms are heavy the vomit on a sweater already mom's spaghetti style so i'm i'm nervous i'm talking to my uh i'm talking to the boss big boss and i was telling him the plan
he he was like all right we don't want to talk about this here in the office let's go to drinks and so we we're underneath the office now in in the bar that was on the bottom floor of our building i pulled out this plan this plan was for 75 000 a quarter each one of the marketing services was laid out and i showed him the plan i'm like this is what we need to do this
is going to grow the business and he was just like yeah let's go and all of a sudden i moved from a four thousand dollar a month salary to seventy five thousand dollars a quarter with a six month minimum so that was 150 000 contract right my profit was baked into it at 9 000 a month so even just the profit of that was more than double what i was making let alone the actual cash value
that that we were dealing with which was 25 000 a month okay so what i what i learned there was the culmination of a theory that i had for a very long time which is if you want to get paid the big bucks it's actually fairly simple all you have to do is understand the business as a business not as a ladder that you're climbing not as a career like that but you understand a business like
like it is like it's an actual system you understand the issues with the business and then my theory the whole time was if i go to the owner of a business that i i could be a business i work at it could be a business i don't work at if i go to that owner and i tell him the issues with the business and i come with solutions with a price attached he'd have to be stupid
to say no and this is how i've secured raises over and over again my very first job in new york city was cold calling for this startup and the way that i got a raise there was the exact same the exact same way uh i was a little bit uh less qualified back then so i only pitched for a couple hundred dollar raise but it was the same way i identified the issues in the business typed
it out in a proposal presented it to the boss and he approved the tactics so what i've done now is taught that to a few people on our team specifically so we have a couple people on our team div sharma who is our youtube producer now he's moving on to do more stuff i think related to the courses and some other stuff within the organization but he started his first job a few years ago it was
150 a month in india and over the course of working with us and growing now he's on track to make six figures a year i would love for him to be making 100k in 2022 and i think if if he hits the certain numbers he will be able to make that and he did the exact same thing he identified issues in the business asked and then asked for results-based compensation and what that means is instead of
being paid just a basic flat fee if you want to get massive massive raises you need to ask for a percentage a piece of the action you need to get a piece of the revenue that you're going to generate for the business and if you can lock that deal in then you can get massive raises div's making more than anybody that he knows right now he's supporting his entire family he's he's married he's got a kid
now over the course of just having a job with us and the reason why is because he had the balls to ask for results-based compensation that's it he had the balls to ask for a piece of the action and now he outperfo now he out earns most of the other people on his team that's all it is vishal who's another member of our team i taught him the same strategy he did the same thing he was
a junior also only making a couple hundred bucks a month in india and he waited for the perfect time to ask he realized we needed a project manager to hold us all accountable he asked and he got a 30 raise just like that and i'm about to give him 100 raise as soon as he moves up to another role i don't think i've told him that but once you understand same way once you understand the problems
in business you pitch it the right way you can get incredible raises 300 raises 600 percent raises even robert indrish my uh my co-founder started as a content writer for our company and he was making 60 bucks an article 100 bucks a website now uh he he traded his his way up the same way you know working on bigger and bigger projects asking for more and more money getting more of the piece of the action he
got the ultimate piece of the action he became the ceo at our seven figure agency he became the ceo at x27 and now across all of his business ventures he earns almost a million dollars a year okay from from uh content writer everyone's been there content writer to now making over almost a million dollars a year that's that's insane but it's because he's got a piece of the action he owns a large percentage of the business
