[00:14] who could forget tons and tons of work

[00:18] rated scandals I'm not going to go too

[00:20] deep into the situation but in general

[00:21] animators that have worked for the

[00:23] studio reported to have been given

[00:24] egregious inhumane work hours there was

[00:27] one instance where an episode director

[00:28] for Attack on Titan apparently worked

[00:30] for 3 days straight without even going

[00:33] home only to be given enough money to

[00:35] buy half a copy of Elden ring per scene

[00:38] hence when said animators took to

[00:40] Twitter to voice their struggles the

[00:42] studio graciously told them hey shut the

[00:45] [ __ ] up or we will sue you so when mappa

[00:47] themselves released an original show

[00:49] about an overworked animator this raised

[00:51] a few eyebrows a mappa anime about

[00:55] making anime yo let's go oh [ __ ]

[01:05] bit too real hey yo what was this some

[01:09] kind of meta ironic statement to show

[01:11] the struggles of animators or perhaps we

[01:13] would get to know the Intensive process

[01:15] of making an anime that's what I thought

[01:18] that's what everyone online thought but

[01:20] instead we got an isekai how the hell do

[01:23] you [ __ ] that up zenu introduces us to

[01:25] Nao an anime director who burst onto the

[01:28] scene after her debut show went Mega

[01:30] viral everyone looks up to her skills

[01:32] even her Studio's president the great

[01:34] director natso is over there trying to

[01:36] push a 10 billion yen Blockbuster into

[01:38] this world wait I thought her line was

[01:40] hey shut the [ __ ] up or we will sue you

[01:42] but nao's next anime will prove to be

[01:44] her toughest after being told to make an

[01:46] anime about love our main character is

[01:48] left stunlocked having never experienced

[01:50] love before the show is already late for

[01:52] production this paired with her stubborn

[01:54] unwillingness to let anyone else touch

[01:56] her work all she has to show for is a

[01:59] blank piece of paper staring right at

[02:01] her face just then I felt an

[02:02] overwhelming sense of familiarity wash

[02:04] over me I've been there before not about

[02:07] the love thing I'm happily in a

[02:09] relationship

[02:10] cap but I know how it feels to

[02:13] desperately want to have inspiration

[02:16] comments of excited fans waiting to see

[02:59] unfortunately that's one of the only

[03:01] entertaining parts of the show I'd say

[03:03] I'm pretty spoiled by anime ever since I

[03:05] started watching again in 2018 run with

[03:07] the wind attack on Titan jiu Jutsu

[03:09] Kaizen Vinland Saga mob psycho doctor

[03:11] Stone mushoku tensei ranking of Kings

[03:13] Oxi Heavenly delusion dungeon meshy and

[03:16] most recently orb not only are these

[03:19] animes super high quality in terms of

[03:21] Animation but they're also stories that

[03:23] manage to Captivate me to the point

[03:25] where I can tell you every major plot

[03:27] point that happens in each of them

[03:29] without GL ing a single time at

[03:31] Wikipedia now with zenu it felt as if

[03:33] something had to be sacrificed for the

[03:35] other in order to achieve great

[03:36] animation zenu has a story that's about

[03:39] as mid as McDonald's when you're not

[03:41] craving McDonald's you ever had fast

[03:42] food for the sole purpose of it being

[03:45] fast food like it's 2:00 you haven't had

[03:48] lunch and you have a meeting in 15

[03:49] minutes that [ __ ] ain't hidden brother I

[03:51] don't have time to sit down and have a

[03:53] succulent Chinese meal just let me suck

[03:55] down a burger fries and coke and dip

[03:57] that's what the story of zenu felt like

[03:59] to me average generic middle of the road

[04:01] 5 out of 10 and look even the characters

[04:03] agree with me my big brother was telling

[04:05] me that it was the biggest box office

[04:07] Club in the hay era I'm not kidding the

[04:09] movie that she gets isekaied in is

[04:11] canonically terrible if the little [ __ ]

[04:13] at the back can't even stay awake what

[04:15] makes you think I can I'm not saying

[04:16] this anime is objectively bad there's

[04:19] nothing wrong with a basic hero story

[04:21] but it's nothing to applaud at either

[04:24] what an episode looks like spoilers for

[04:26] episode 4 if you're genuinely watching

[04:28] this anime for its story this this is

[04:29] freerun from teu she's one of the main

[04:31] Squad members and is the designated

[04:33] support mage of the team but lately ever

[04:35] since the invasion of demons she's been

[04:37] acting a little sus so Nao decides to

[04:40] follow her want to explain why you're

[04:41] sneaking

[04:50] way she's just practicing choir with her

[04:52] elf buddies come on I'll show you see

[04:55] it's the same old creepy satanic

[05:52] end of world gimmick that the characters

[05:54] have to deal with and by the last 5

[05:56] minutes nao's ruler will start talking

[05:58] which signals to us plus that her Al is

[06:00] up finally this is the reward you get

[06:02] for enduring all that

[06:08] buildup I'm not going to lie this does

[06:11] go hard the animation in these few

[06:13] minutes puts most anime airing right now

[06:15] to shame I can see Sakamoto day's fans

[06:17] licking my window pane desperate for a

[06:19] fraction of this animation mappa have

[06:21] definitely not lost their touch in this

[06:23] department but needing to slug through

[06:25] 15 minutes of boring plot just to get

[06:28] here was a bit much for me I don't care

[06:30] about the story I'm just here for the

[06:32] sakuga that's really all that zenu

[06:34] offers for me too I think what's funny

[06:36] is that they just decide to rehash that

[06:38] same animation every single episode they

[06:41] go through the whole ass sequence over

[06:44] and over again bro I've seen this before

[06:47] please just stop I reckon I'd save more

[06:49] time just by reading the summary of each

[06:51] episode and skipping to the end for the

[06:53] animation ironically the only part that

[06:55] got me invested was when they decided to

[06:57] step away from the story and tell us

[06:59] about natco's life how she became the

[07:01] genius Prodigy that she is and why so

[07:04] many people look up to her I just wish

[07:06] they put more emphasis on the real world

[07:08] and on NATO as an animator because while

[07:10] they do try to make connections between

[07:12] how NATO acts in the anime and her

[07:15] stubbornness in the real world it just

[07:17] all falls flat from how quickly they

[07:19] Rush the story but in the end who am I

[07:21] to yucky y I think a very sweet message

[07:24] that this anime imparts is who gives a

[07:26] [ __ ] NATO knows that her favorite anime

[07:29] was a massive flop but to her that

[07:31] doesn't matter for most things you don't

[07:33] need a reason to like it it's a feeling

[07:35] so just go with it as long as it's not

[07:37] illegal if I say I like your name and

[07:39] it's one of the best anime movies I've

[07:41] ever seen no one can deny me that just

[07:44] as much as me saying I didn't like a

[07:46] silent voice gives me the power to drown

[07:48] out all the death threats no one should

[07:49] be invalidating your own experiences on

[07:52] an anime not even me I watched gig's

[07:54] latest video where he briefly talked

[07:56] about zenu and he referred to this anime

[07:58] as a love letter to animation as a whole

[08:01] loaded with referential scenes and

[08:03] drawings from decades old anime like

[08:05] NASA you see I'm baby while I have

[08:08] watched NASA before I never would have

[08:10] made that connection on my own zenu

[08:13] attracts a demographic that really have

[08:14] a burning passion for anime the people

[08:17] who know the ins and outs of the

[08:18] industry the culture and the history as

[08:21] much as I've spent these past years

[08:23] talking about anime I'm not at that

[08:24] level gig mentioned that the plot

[08:26] reminded him of old school isekai which

[08:28] was probably centuries before I was born

[08:30] so I'm unable to fully appreciate the

[08:32] little nuances this anime has to offer

[08:35] and I think that's why it didn't

[08:36] resonate with me for me it's an okay

[08:38] show that I'll watch just cuz it's

[08:39] pretty to look at I like when the comedy

[08:41] catches you off guard sometimes when

[08:43] natuko uses modern slang but aside from

[08:46] those two things I really can't bear to

[08:48] watch this show without scrolling

[08:50] through my phone looking for the next

[08:51] Pokémon card I'm going to buy seriously
