New Velotric Discover M: Mid-Drive eBike with Unique Features

[00:02] this e-bike balances comfort and capability with a natural feeling pedal some pretty unique features that make this perfect for both commuting and cruising. So, let's start off with the coolest part of this bike. This is a

[00:14] want that? What's the big deal? Well, most people are only familiar with hub-drive e-bike motors where their motor is in the rear wheel hub. And mid-drive motors, on the other hand, are instead coaxial with the pedals. So,

[00:27] that means that you get a more natural feel. The motors can use the gears just you climb hills more effectively. The bike has a more balanced weight cuz the motor's in the middle instead of the rear. And overall, there are a number of

[00:39] other benefits I'll talk about throughout this video to mid-drive motor popular this year. And yet, I'm surprised by how many people still have additionally, this e-bike actually has a throttle on it as well. And most other

[00:53] mid-drive e-bikes I've seen don't include a throttle. They only have pedal assistance, which is already great, but the Discover M actually has a hub motor that can assist in pedaling, or it can drive with a throttle. And again, it

[01:05] a throttle. So, this means you get more power when you're pedaling with a very natural feel. Essentially, you just feel like you are a Tour de France cyclist Now, this video was sponsored by

[02:01] four different riding modes and an auto mode as well, and two different sensor modes. So, there's the torque sensor or cadence sensor. Basically, cadence is really flat ground and you're looking to just cruise and not really put in much

[02:13] effort. You turn the pedals, the motor mostly takes over, but you know, you're still putting in some input with your pedaling. Whereas, the torque sensor is more natural. So, as you pedal the harder you push, the more the the motor

[02:26] mid-drive motor, the torque, you're assistance. You're going to think you're just way better at biking. You're able to go further and faster, while if you want, still getting a workout, or

[02:38] natural bike ride. And when I say go faster, I mean like you could go up to 28 mph, no problem. So, this bike, talking about that speed there, 28 mph, this is rated three different ways. You can do class one, class two, or class

[02:51] three. So, the three classes explained, class one means you can pedal up to 20 mph with assistance. You could pedal faster than that, but the motor just turns off after 20 mph. Class two is the same as class one, but you could also

[03:03] use a throttle up to 20 mph. And then class three means you can pedal up to 28, and you can uh use a throttle up to 20. And in the app, I'll show you later, you can customize this uh the top speed. You can set it as low as 12 mph. Great

[03:15] want to accidentally go too fast, or all the way up to the max speed of 28. Now, little bit deeper into the design. So, let's take a closer look at this e-bike. here, so a little bit easier to get on and off this bike. The suspended seat

[03:30] post, very easy to adjust right here as well. You can adjust how much suspension you're getting, how far forward and back it is, obviously how high it is. We have this one. We've got kind of the gold font right there. Makes it look very

[03:43] very natural. You can spin them in reverse and it doesn't spin the chain connected to the motor as well. So, you're able to use the motor and it be wondering that. You can see right here you're able to mount a water

[03:57] bottle, and on the front you are able to mount a front rack if you ever wanted to Velotric. Then on the back you've got your fender, and you have your rear rack, which can support up to 66 lb. So, a lot stronger than most others, which

[04:10] very back of that, let me bring you around here. So, on the very back of the light, which if I squeeze the brakes will light it up. And we also have on camera here. Actually, you can see them quite well. So, there's your right

[04:24] And you can also see from this angle right here the suspension on that seat the nice wide seat here. So, when you're riding, very, very smooth ride. Moving up to the cockpit here, you can see we have a 3 and 1/2 in color LCD display in

[04:39] even in bright daylight. You can see, you know, on camera usually that's the have your controls. You've got your right and left blinker. You'll see it blinks not only on the display there, but it also beeps, as you can hear right

[04:52] there. And it beeps indefinitely. It'll just keep turning until you turn it off. blink like two or three times, and then they turn off. This one, I appreciate that it beeps and it constantly blinks for when you're making a turn. We also

[05:04] you can see that toggles between the eco, you have trail riding, sport, and then boost for the fastest mode possible got this little back button that you can also use to toggle between the different

[05:18] also use to toggle between the different classes of riding. class two, and class make sure we're focused in on that so we can see class one, two, and three. And it's telling you the top speed for pedaling and the top speed for your

[05:30] throttle right below that right there. So, you can see 20 and 20 for class two, as I mentioned. On the buttons, we can also press and hold the bottom button to get off your bike and you're walking somewhere, and maybe the bike's just

[05:43] hill, it can assist you at a very comfortable walking pace. And then the top the plus button if I press and hold that, that will turn on our front headlight. And if I press and hold the M button, it'll take us into our settings

[05:55] able to change the speed limit. I really love how big this display is right here. your cruise control, sensor swap, all this stuff you're able to adjust either on the bike and a lot of it in the app as well. I'll show you the app in just a

[06:08] card if you wanted to lock and unlock your bike with an NFC card. You can have up to three on there can see right here, and you can bind all three of them. You anywhere, pair them with this. It's a

[06:21] going to lock up like the motor and make it impossible to turn anything, but uh motor without unlocking it. You can also I will be connecting to the app. You heart rate sensor on here. You can choose your rear light mode. So, do you

[06:36] want it to be steady? Do you want it to blink? Do you want it to blink and flash you squeeze the brakes? And we also have turn signal click options down there, as well as auto lights. So, this is an auto-adapting brightness screen. So,

[06:49] see that's why it's so bright out right now. But if it gets dark, it's going to your display, and also turn on the 500-lumen headlamp on the very front based on the brightness if you have that enabled. We also have you can see screen

[07:03] off, you can calibrate your sensors, tune your ride, and uh you know, some yeah, definitely shows you a lot on this display here including the time, the a ton of information right there. Makes it very comfortable to ride. On the

[07:18] shifter. This is a Shimano 9-speed. You lower gear or squeeze with your index finger to go to a higher gear. And I time going with the thumb. We also have

[07:31] Just in case you're passing somebody. And you can see the swept handlebars for have to lean forward like you would on a mountain bike or a racing bike. This ride. Now, I mentioned that front suspension was adjustable and you can

[07:45] also lock it out. So, locked out, you'll see if I push down, nothing happens. You you unlock it. And again, that's going to be pretty useful for bumps. This bike's also rated for up to 440 lb, so great for larger riders or people who

[07:57] just want to carry more cargo when they're traveling. Here you can see, I these are 27 and 1/2 in Kenda puncture paired in with them. The treads are very nice for riding on gravel, riding on

[08:11] versatile treads right here. And then in the middle, you can see this is where the top here. You're also able to charge it while the battery is still in the bike, so you have the option of charging battery out of the bike or battery in

[08:23] here. Very compact how it's right in the middle of the bike. I appreciate how again, it doesn't look like any different than other e-bikes except back, which gives you a more balanced ride on the bike. On the back, you'll

[08:36] see the kickstand is nicely out of the way of the pedals, so you know, you can hitting that. So, taking a look at the app, you can name your bike. You've got eco, trail, sport, boost, and there's an auto mode as well. Below that, you can

[08:49] or class three. And for each one, you can choose what your speed limit is actually going to be. So, class one, maybe you only want assistance up to 16 mph. Maybe it's set for some younger riders and you want it to be even lower.

[09:02] there. There's also custom mode if you wanted to unlock this for basically as way you're able to ride with throttle up to 28 mph. Of course, check your local regulations before deciding which of these you want to use. Some states only

[09:17] use class two. Some of them, if you're on private property, obviously anytime up to custom. You want to make sure you're following the rules so that trails and things like that. So, definitely look into the rules before

[09:29] experience. Do you want it to be more of a turbo ride, so a lot more responsive using your throttle? Or do you want something smoother or even just slower in general? Some people find that maybe slower is better on throttle, so they

[09:43] they're not used to something with so much torque. We also have our throttle sync down here. We can choose torque or cadence sensor, so this does have sensor mentioned, you can switch between them pretty easily right there. Auto light, I

[09:56] choose the auto power off, the screen brightness, and you can connect or delete NFC cards right here. So, those are the bike settings in the app. While this on your handlebars, and you're actually able to plug into your bike, so

[10:10] your bike battery can charge up your phone. There's a little USB-C port controller here. Really interesting. I actually didn't even notice it at first really appreciate that that's there. We can see the distance, we can see our

[10:23] speed, average speed, all of that would normally be displayed right there, but you can also have it displayed on the app as well. And you can track and see where did you go, it has a map and everything like that. So, a little

[10:36] here. If we turn it on. So, a kind of a wide headlight right there. Pretty good for riding.

[10:48] Not too much above, so you're not going to be blinding other drivers or runners or anything, but still able to see quite a bit there. Here's a look at the blinker. Surprisingly

[11:01] So, some other key features of this bike, you have an IPX7 rated battery. could technically submerge it for a short amount of time, and it's also removable and lockable. So, uh great if you want to park your bike outside. It's

[11:16] not like, you know, not everyone's going to be carrying that up steps, but it's a lot lighter than many other e-bikes I've seen. And at the same time, you could lock it outside and just take the battery in and charge that at your

[11:29] office or at home, upstairs in your apartment, wherever it might be, it's kind of convenient you could do that. The entire bike then is rated IPX6, so you should be pretty good at riding this in the rain or through puddles and stuff

[11:41] like that. I wouldn't really worry too much about that. Now, as far as the ride ride thanks to the suspension and the suspension in the seat post, but you shift it on the right side as I showed you. You have a 500-W motor that goes up

[11:55] to 960-W peak, so plenty of power there, and you have 100 N-m of torque, which maxes out at actually 130. All right, so and let's get into a couple little tests ride is actually like. All right, so I'm going to go to boost mode. We are

[12:11] custom, so unregulated speed. I'm in first gear because the gears matter for the motor here. Let's see what the acceleration looks like. 3 2 1

[12:29] quick to get up to 10. Seems like it maxes out at about 11 in first gear. but I'm just curious. I want to see how this does if we start off in a high gear. So, let me pedal and get us into high gear.

[12:58] expect it should be much slower to accelerate, but probably uh higher speed accelerate, but probably uh higher speed overall. So, 3 2 1

[13:11] Actually, that's better acceleration than I expected. to accelerate a lot more. 15

[14:09] about 22 miles per hour, which is kind of to be expected for a mid-drive motor. Really the benefit of this is going to be when you're pedaling. So let's do a so in fourth gear I mean, I don't even need boost. I'll go

[14:21] to auto mode cuz it just feels so jumpy. I feel like especially with that pedal assistance. Let's go down. Let's go to auto. It'll on based on how I'm riding it.

[14:35] All right, so you got plenty of acceleration there. I think we're going going to crush it on hill test. Oh, yeah. That kicks in. It does a really good job

[14:47] with pedal assistance. Feels very natural. Let's see if we're able to get to 28 miles an hour miles an hour by pedaling.

[16:04] thought it was really interesting. I was able to accelerate really well with pedals, and this had no problem holding a higher speed with throttle. So, it didn't reach 25 when I did just motor, but if you pedal up to 25, it'll hold

[16:17] 25, no problem. Okay, so a hill test here. This feels really good. Feels like I'm just cruising up this hill. I'm barely putting any effort in, doing 15 mph. The

[16:31] key here is to find the right gear when using this. If I was in a gear too high, the motor would struggle. So, you kind of think about the power curve, and you want to be at the right spot. And this feels like it's it.

[16:43] It's really no problem at all. A few other key things to mention, this does have Apple Find My and Android finding location capabilities. So, you can set ever lost or stolen, hopefully it's not stolen, um you can find it. You'll be

[16:57] powerful tool. It's like having an AirTag built in to your actual bike Discover M, a bike that is clearly designed to maximize comfort, while also being a very capable e-bike with high enough speeds and range that you can use

[17:12] this for commuting or just casual rides, and honestly anything in between as well. For example, if you are just getting into maybe a weight loss journey and you don't want to ride a bike like maybe just not going to go far enough or

[17:24] quite ready to handle, an e-bike absolutely could be the best option for you're commuting or just cruising around, this is a great way to go further and faster and see more while exerting less effort and making it a

[17:38] really cool features on there like I said the odometer, speedometer, you can headlights, brake lights, all these things already integrated that if you have to buy those all as extra
