I Blew Up My Mercedes 300SL Engine
40sDramatic confession of a costly engine failure and a Moby Dick metaphor hooks viewers interested in automotive disasters.

[00:00] Welcome to Hooies Garage, the dumbest
[00:01] automotive channel in all of YouTube.
[00:03] And this is basically my version of Moby
[00:05] Dick, the classical novel, the giant
[00:07] whale that I'm chasing to the ends of
[00:09] the earth to my own personal ruin
[00:11] because a few weeks ago, I blew the
[00:13] motor on this Mercedes 300 SL going
[00:15] after spending a lot of money fixing it
[00:17] up. And well, now it's going to need a
[00:19] lot more money. So, I didn't think I was
[00:21] going to have this big hoopy cellathon
[00:23] this year. But then two things happened.
[00:25] Number one, I bought five cars at
[00:27] Barrett Jackson in Florida. And then
[00:29] number two, this happens. So now I'm
[00:31] selling 10 cars to pay for fixing this a
[00:34] one. And some of them are going to be
[00:36] extremely painful to sell. So let's get
[00:38] the most painful cars out of the way to
[00:40] the least of the 10. Like I said, in
[00:42] order of most painful to least painful
[00:44] and the most painful has got to be the
[00:46] 2006 Cadillac Escalade EXT. With 18,000
[00:50] original miles, short of not being
[00:52] riptide blue, it is the holy grail for
[00:55] me as far as this generation of Escalade
[00:57] in super low mileage in amazing
[01:00] condition. California car before that.
[01:02] So, the undercarriage is just perfect.
[01:04] But here's the thing. When I bought
[01:06] this, it came with sort of a bad
[01:09] experience because I traded off my Eldo
[01:11] rod, the El Dorado that was all
[01:13] customized and I thought it'd sell for,
[01:15] you know, $15,000, 17 maybe on its best
[01:18] day because it sold three times at
[01:20] auction for around that money and it
[01:22] went on bring a trailer. The guy who
[01:23] bought it for me, Spencer, amazing guy,
[01:24] Geneva Motorcars, and it brought
[01:27] $55,000.
[01:29] I traded that for this along with some
[01:32] other cars and things. So, ever since
[01:34] then, in the past year or so of owning
[01:36] this Escalade, all I can think about
[01:37] when I look at it is how dumb I was for
[01:40] doing all the research on that El Rod
[01:42] and not taking it to the finish line
[01:44] myself at auction rather than just uh
[01:46] selling it off. But it had no title.
[01:48] That was the thing. It's a concept car.
[01:50] It couldn't be driven on regular public
[01:51] roads. It made no sense that it brought
[01:53] that kind of money, but just two guys
[01:54] going crazy. So, instead of enjoying
[01:56] this car, I mostly look at it and go,
[01:58] "Oh, it's so pretty." and not drive it.
[02:00] But then also at the same time thinking,
[02:01] "Wow, I was a total moron." So to get
[02:04] out of it, what I think it's kind of
[02:06] worth it, that's fine. It's painful. It
[02:09] hurts because I'll never find another
[02:10] one again. But, you know, so I shot that
[02:13] Escalade part about a week ago before
[02:15] the Escalade left. I wanted to catch it
[02:16] and film it before. And uh well, I got
[02:19] an email from a dealer buddy of mine in
[02:21] Arizona that he got an Escalade on
[02:23] trade. So this is my 2005 Escalade I've
[02:26] had for almost 5 years. It's been in
[02:27] Arizona for a while now. And this is a
[02:31] 2003 Cadillac Escalade EXT. So I went
[02:35] from 06 to 03. This one was $11,000. I
[02:39] sold the other one for a whole lot more.
[02:40] $179,000 mi on this one, but it's not
[02:44] any ext. It is the XS500
[02:48] EXT, which what does that mean? I didn't
[02:51] know until it was texted to me either.
[02:52] But basically, this is a period Escalade
[02:55] V that I could not say no to. So that
[02:58] 500 means 500 horsepower. From the
[03:00] factory, it would have been 345
[03:02] horsepower. And this one is now
[03:05] supercharged. Yep. A lot of extra stuff
[03:09] going on here with the 6 L Vortek to 500
[03:12] horsepower. And it's a lifelong Arizona
[03:14] car. So it's in fantastic. I mean, it's
[03:16] in unbelievably good condition. It's
[03:18] just as nice, say, as this 105,000 mi
[03:21] one. Not too far off from the 18,000 mi
[03:23] one. And it has a lot of cool stuff on
[03:25] it. Like this visor here. I've never
[03:27] seen on any other Escalade before. This
[03:29] is so cool with the uh trucker kind of
[03:32] lights there on top. It has these
[03:34] aftermarket 20-in wheels versus the
[03:37] factory 20s on here. And I do really
[03:39] like the look of them. But if you see
[03:41] the inside of my stock Escalade,
[03:44] a lot of plastic in here. You know, GM
[03:46] of this era was not too keen on hiding,
[03:49] you know, hard plastics and all that
[03:51] stuff. A little bit of wood. Uh, but
[03:53] somebody took it upon themselves to
[03:55] bling up the interior on this thing as
[03:58] well. So, you go inside of this one and
[04:01] there is a lot of wood. Uh, a lot more
[04:04] of the peel and stick wood kit to match
[04:06] on every surface imaginable, which is
[04:10] very goofy. I'm not a big fan of, but
[04:12] it's funny that somebody did it along
[04:14] with this deer ride labeled dash cover.
[04:19] I I don't understand that one either.
[04:22] But this is the same thing. It's the
[04:23] EXT, which is the Avalanche. So, these
[04:26] seats fold down and then you can fold
[04:28] down this window and everything else and
[04:30] make it an eight foot bed. You can take
[04:31] these panels off as well. So, it is an
[04:33] extremely practical machine. You can see
[04:36] uh WeatherTech mats and a full-size
[04:38] spare here, a matching chrome wheel.
[04:40] Does it have one underneath?
[04:43] It does not. So, a good thing for it to
[04:45] have a spare. But listen to this.
[04:51] A lot more going on here.
[04:54] I I don't want to make the neighbors
[04:55] mad, but I I could not I could not
[04:58] refuse it. Even though I just sold one
[05:00] and needed money, I no there there was
[05:03] no refusing this period escalade V, if
[05:08] you will. It is It is crazy. May is
[05:11] mental health awareness month. The
[05:12] perfect time to break the stigma and
[05:14] talk about how the well-being of our
[05:15] mental health is just as important to
[05:17] take care of as our physical health. And
[05:19] you don't have to go through any of it
[05:20] alone because with today's sponsor,
[05:21] BetterHelp, there's always someone with
[05:23] you who is trained to listen. I hit a
[05:25] low point not long ago when it came to
[05:27] burnout. Nothing seemed fun at all. Even
[05:30] my hooptie fleet, just an endless hole
[05:32] of work and financial obligations that I
[05:34] could never dig myself out of. Therapy
[05:36] helped me recognize what I was feeling
[05:38] was textbook burnout and force myself to
[05:41] do things to take myself out of work,
[05:43] not to constantly think about the
[05:44] hundreds of things I need to do. By
[05:46] setting boundaries during downtime and
[05:48] with family, this is where BetterHel can
[05:50] always be with you. You never have to go

[06:09] alone. BetterHelp is here with you. Here
[06:12] we go.
[06:17] It It sounds like a tornado under the
[06:20] hood. It doesn't woo like a Ric Flair
[06:22] like a lot of superchargers where it
[06:23] goes woo. It's just It's just an almost
[06:26] turboy kind of whoosh to this thing that
[06:28] is pretty cool. But also, I mean, it's
[06:32] just unsettling because I've owned so
[06:34] many of these Escalades. I know exactly
[06:36] how they feel. I know what normal feels
[06:37] like. This is so different.
[06:47] It's It's so much faster. It is. I mean,
[06:49] it's almost off-putting that it
[06:55] I've never had a supercharger like just
[06:58] just blow. There's no woo to it at all.
[07:01] And it's so cool. I cannot believe this
[07:03] popped in my lap for $11,000. And it
[07:06] solves the problem of the other XT that
[07:09] I sold with $18,000 mi. It was so low
[07:11] mileage that I was scared to use it. So,
[07:13] I didn't use it as a truck. I didn't use
[07:15] it for a lot of things. And this one,
[07:18] 179,000 mi. Yeah, it's in nice shape.
[07:20] But I'm not going to take any value away
[07:22] from driving this thing and using it as
[07:24] intended because even though this thing
[07:26] was very expensive when new, I Googled
[07:28] it and it was an expensive package. So
[07:29] you had to pay like $90,000 for this
[07:31] thing back in 2003, which is which is
[07:33] crazy.
[07:38] Oh god.
[07:42] Somebody bought it and drove it. I don't
[07:44] know how many are made. I like I said, I
[07:46] didn't know this existed until it was
[07:48] texted to me. Then I Googled it and you
[07:49] know through the internet and history
[07:50] and all that stuff you're able to find
[07:51] some stuff.
[07:54] It just shows
[07:59] it just shows how versatile this
[08:02] platform is. The GMT800 platform, the
[08:04] Escalade was the top dog, but they had
[08:06] the Silverado SS. It's so many different
[08:08] things. And this engine such a popular
[08:10] choice for people wanting to, you know,
[08:12] LS swap or LQ swap, I guess, since it is
[08:14] the Iron Head. It's not the full
[08:16] aluminum LS. It's just such a popular
[08:18] engine and so tough. And honestly,
[08:21] there's a little bit more looseness in
[08:23] the steering, I guess, but I don't feel
[08:26] that much of a difference between the
[08:28] 18,000 mi one or the 105,000 mi one in
[08:31] the driveway. They're actually really
[08:33] close. Although, this is the older one,
[08:35] so it doesn't have the full gauges like
[08:37] the later ones. This is sort of the
[08:38] older style. This is like a late 2002
[08:41] build, so it doesn't have all the
[08:42] refinements yet. But
[08:45] uh this the supercharger that's crazy.
[08:48] Like if I were to do this to any of the
[08:50] Escalades I have, I'd be spending
[08:52] $67,000 on the parts and then a bunch in
[08:54] labor. And I got a whole Escalade for
[08:58] what a supercharger swap would cost. And
[09:00] a nice one with cold air and everything
[09:01] working. So, can you blame me? Can you
[09:04] blame me for doing this? I know it
[09:05] sounds really stupid for me to sell an
[09:07] Escalade, say I need money, and then a
[09:08] week later's the exact same thing. But
[09:11] can you blame me for doing this? Okay.
[09:13] Okay. I slipped a little bit. I was down
[09:15] to three Escalades. Now I'm back up to
[09:16] four. That's on me. But I also have
[09:19] three Mercedes S-Class equivalents right
[09:21] now. So that's why this one is the next
[09:23] one to go. My 2004 Maybach 62. And this
[09:26] one is live right now on Cars and Bids.
[09:28] No reserve. Currently with 107,000 m on
[09:31] it. I've had it for 4 years. And it's
[09:33] been an amazing, really reliable
[09:35] machine. The only work has been under
[09:37] warranty for the brakes. Both brake
[09:39] pumps replace to the tune of $15,000 a
[09:41] piece. So, it has brand new brake hubs.
[09:43] That's the nice part of it being high
[09:44] mileage is those pumps got done. And
[09:47] that is the Achilles heel of this car.
[09:48] Now, it has the latest and greatest
[09:49] braking system and software. And this is
[09:52] the rare partition car as well. But I
[09:55] haven't driven it much in the last year
[09:57] at all. Now, I have the S500, the 1997.
[10:00] I have the Mercedes 6.9 as well. So, I
[10:03] really don't need this Mercedes
[10:04] limousine even though it is really cool.
[10:06] It's the most expensive of that bunch.
[10:09] It's really dark in here, but you can
[10:10] see the reclining seats, the partition,
[10:12] all that stuff. This is also on Jay
[10:14] Leno's garage. I went to California,
[10:16] drove it out there, and we did a video
[10:18] with it. So, a lot of memories with this
[10:20] car, but I've definitely had my fun
[10:22] after 4 years. Interesting. The
[10:23] extension cord got tucked in that way.
[10:25] After 4 years, it is time to let go and
[10:28] go down to a much more reasonable amount
[10:30] of Mercedes S-Classes. Even though the
[10:32] Maybach isn't really an S-Class, it's
[10:33] close enough. So, I'm going to go down
[10:34] to two. Yeah.
[10:39] Yeah, I did it again. This time it is a
[10:41] downgrade, a major downgrade, but still
[10:43] a really cool machine that is
[10:45] mechanically totaled several times over.
[10:47] So, this is a 2013 Mercedes S350 diesel,
[10:52] the last generation of Mercedes diesel
[10:55] S-Class in the United States. And so, I
[10:58] am back up to three S-Classes. They
[11:00] unbadged the back of this thing to keep
[11:01] it more stealth. Also got it scraped
[11:04] against the garage door. Some old people
[11:05] things going on here. curved wheels and
[11:07] all that stuff. But the big issues are
[11:09] with the engine, unfortunately. A friend
[11:11] of mine, Spencer, at Geneva Motorcars
[11:13] took this on trade. And unfortunately,
[11:15] it has a bad turbo where oil is getting
[11:17] into it and making a mess. So, that
[11:19] needs to be replaced along with many
[11:21] other issues like the brakes, the front
[11:23] shocks. They're stuck in sport mode.
[11:25] They're airride, as you can see,
[11:26] sticking out here. Uh, among many other
[11:28] things to the tune. If this was at a
[11:29] Mercedes dealer, it'd be$25, $30,000 to
[11:32] fix everything on this car. I think we
[11:34] can fix it for a very small fraction of
[11:36] that. and Spencer was kind enough to
[11:37] sell it for me for only $8,000. So, an
[11:40] incredible deal considering how much
[11:41] these cost when new. And there are some
[11:43] benefits. All the S350s were all-wheel
[11:45] drive, so it's an all-wheel drive
[11:47] platform. Of course, I had the S600. One
[11:49] of my first viral videos was the 2007
[11:52] S600 of the same chassis and generation.
[11:54] And this one, it has some things in
[11:56] common with it other than the chassis.
[11:58] Basically has the fancy S600 interior,
[12:00] the premium interior. I think this is
[12:02] the black Dino interior with the leather
[12:04] stitch dashboard. the fancy wood as well
[12:07] and the higher quality leather as well
[12:10] along with rear entertainment which my
[12:12] S600 didn't have.
[12:14] Pretty neat. So very much all of Maybach
[12:17] here although no refrigerator or
[12:18] champagne flutes but uh three remotes
[12:21] really do we need three remotes for the
[12:23] TVs? That's that's kind of a lot.
[12:25] Reclining rear seats as well. So you do
[12:27] have some of that Maybach touch there
[12:29] but for a fraction of the price or at
[12:31] least I hope since I am selling the
[12:32] Maybach no reserve on cars and bids. I I
[12:35] hope it'll bring more than $8,000. It
[12:36] should bring a lot more than that. But
[12:38] it's just something that was hard to say
[12:39] no to because they didn't make very many
[12:40] of these. They're kind of hard to find
[12:42] in nice shape since they are getting
[12:44] older. And this one, it does have some
[12:46] miles on it, hence the issues.
[12:49] 179,000 mi. The check engine light is on
[12:51] for the turbo and I think some vacuum
[12:53] leaks as well. I'll go into a deeper
[12:55] dive as far as all the issues when it
[12:57] gets back to Kansas. But as of now,
[12:59] despite being mechanically totaled, it's
[13:02] pretty wild how nicely this thing
[13:03] drives. other than it being stuck in
[13:05] sport mode. The tech the diagnosis says
[13:07] that the uh valves inside of the air
[13:09] shocks are stuck and that's why it won't
[13:12] go out. It's the original air shocks and
[13:14] he recommends replacing them which is
[13:15] interesting. I never heard of that
[13:17] happening before on these cars but I
[13:18] suppose they are getting older so it
[13:21] would kind of make sense.
[13:24] But it is a diesel so not sure if you
[13:26] can see it but I floored it and it is
[13:28] black soot out the back which is just so
[13:31] funny. my first Mercedes, of course, my
[13:33] 500 SL. My grandmother got new, gave me
[13:35] 16. But I wanted to keep that car nice.
[13:38] I got an 85 Mercedes 300D for 2500 bucks
[13:40] on eBay, drove it back to Kansas. And it
[13:42] started basically a whole decade of me
[13:43] being obsessed with Mercedes diesels.
[13:45] And it's kind of cool to have the end of
[13:47] the line here, the last generation of
[13:49] S-Class diesel, and we'll probably never
[13:52] see it again in the US. This thing was a
[13:54] terrible seller when it came out because
[13:56] it was priced above the S400 hybrid,
[13:59] which was a weird flop as well. So, most
[14:01] people got the S550, the V8, because it
[14:04] wasn't all that much more expensive than
[14:05] this. And obviously a lot faster. I have
[14:08] allergies right now, so I'm a little
[14:10] flummy. But take a look at this. The
[14:12] last 3,000 mi, it's averaged 23.6 m per
[14:15] gallon. Yesterday, when I was doing
[14:17] light highway driving is more like 27 or
[14:19] 28 m per gallon. So, extremely fuel
[14:22] efficient with these big fuel tanks.
[14:23] They can get 5 600 miles to a fuel tank,
[14:25] which is pretty impressive. And also it
[14:28] does have massaging seats which I
[14:30] definitely need right now. There we go.
[14:33] Always fast and vigorous. Oh,
[14:38] yep. There it is. It starts low, too.
[14:40] Oh, that's so nice. All right. Well,
[14:43] back to Kansas. There'll be more on this
[14:44] car in the future as we dive into it as
[14:46] we try and fix everything with uh the
[14:48] car wizard and Danielson. Ah, this I
[14:51] should Oh, okay. Yep.
[14:57] Anyway, next up that's going is my 1991
[15:01] Lincoln Town Car, silver rosé metallic.
[15:03] Technically, this is April Rose's car,
[15:05] but I'm selling it for her. And we have
[15:07] so many land yachts that really I don't
[15:10] need another one. And no, we're not jump
[15:11] cutting to another location where No,
[15:13] no, no, no, no, no. I'm actually am
[15:14] getting rid of this one because the 76
[15:17] Elorado convertible is a great
[15:18] replacement for the lanyard of this one.
[15:20] Same with the Lincoln Blackwood. I just
[15:23] like the Cadillac Escalades better. So,
[15:25] both of these selling no reserve on cars
[15:27] and bids and the Lincoln and the Lincoln
[15:29] Blackwood will definitely be a loser for
[15:30] this thing because I spent over $4,000
[15:32] going through the head gaskets and all
[15:33] that stuff cuz I bought it unfortunately
[15:35] with bad head gaskets. But, it is a very
[15:37] nice car with a little over a 100,000
[15:39] miles on it. Super clean on the inside
[15:41] with that goofy navigation system and of
[15:44] course this faux wood treatment here in
[15:46] the back and a carpeted bed. It is just
[15:48] such an odd piece of Lincoln Ford
[15:51] history and I'm glad I owned it and
[15:52] experienced it for a very short time
[15:54] because it is very interesting. But I'd
[15:56] much rather have the Ford Lightning of
[15:58] the same generation. So this one not
[16:00] going anywhere. The Lincoln 40,000 m on
[16:02] it, a little over that. So a very nice
[16:04] thing. And April was given the choice.
[16:05] She needed to get rid of one of her
[16:07] cars, including the Mercedes 500 SL up
[16:09] there on the lift. And I thought, well,
[16:10] why not one of the 87 Buicks? Because
[16:12] you don't need three. Which she looked
[16:14] at me like, well, that's preposterous.
[16:16] Of course you need three 87 Buicks. So,
[16:17] these are her cars and she's keeping all
[16:19] three and she chose uh the silver rosé
[16:21] metallic Lincoln. So, the next one to go
[16:24] also ties into lanyards and that is the
[16:27] 77 Deville from Breaking Bad. This was
[16:29] used in the last episode of Breaking
[16:31] Bad. No reserve on cars and bids and is
[16:33] selling there and they put a machine gun
[16:35] in the back. Walter White, he took out
[16:36] all of his enemies but also kind of took
[16:38] out himself in the last episode. So,
[16:40] it's a pretty important car of TV
[16:42] history. of course, one of the best TV
[16:43] shows of all time, and they were so good
[16:46] at casting cars. So, it is kind of a
[16:48] hoopy, obviously faded. It wasn't
[16:49] supposed to be a nice car in the show,
[16:51] and it still isn't today, but it runs
[16:52] and drives fine. The Car Wizard did a
[16:54] lot of work to it. And you can own a
[16:55] piece of TV history. Maybe it'll go into
[16:57] a museum, but as far as driving it, I
[16:59] like driving the 76 Elorado convertible
[17:01] a lot better, so that's why it was easy
[17:02] to sell that one. Also going, and this
[17:05] is kind of a shocker, maybe it won't
[17:06] happen because it's my buddy Rob behind
[17:08] this thing. 2010 Bentley Continental SUP
[17:10] Sports, which I can't believe I'm saying
[17:12] this because I've wanted one of these
[17:13] forever and ever, but honestly, it's
[17:15] Rob. He just kept bugging me about it
[17:17] and bugging me about it and bugging me
[17:18] about it and I had a moment of weakness
[17:20] and gave him like 10 seconds to respond
[17:23] uh to sell this car and he said yes. So,
[17:25] I need the money. I have a lot of other
[17:27] 600 plus horsepower cars. As you saw in
[17:29] the last video where we doed this, the
[17:31] GTR along with the AMG GTS and my
[17:34] Hellcat, the Hellcat came out on top.
[17:36] The Bentley had the least horsepower.
[17:37] Something like 480 or 490 horsepower to
[17:40] the wheels. Not bad considering 620
[17:42] horsepower at the crank and it is
[17:44] all-wheel drive and slush box. So, still
[17:46] healthy and plenty powerful with 69,000
[17:48] mi. But, uh Rob talked me out of it and
[17:50] I'm I'm already regretting it.
[17:52] Hopefully, he changes his mind. Maybe it
[17:53] won't be going, but looks like it's
[17:55] going to go. But also, when you park
[17:56] these two next to each other, which one
[17:58] are you going to hop in more? And some
[18:00] would say the Bentley, but I think the
[18:02] Aston is much more of a special
[18:03] experience with the paddleshift
[18:04] transmission. And then just the looks.
[18:06] There's no arguing the looks of the
[18:07] Vanquish is just so much better than the
[18:10] Bentley Super Sports, which is a lot
[18:11] more of a bloated car. Still a beautiful
[18:13] machine. But Jeremy Clarkson mentioned
[18:15] in his review that taking the Bentley
[18:16] Continental and doing the Super Sport
[18:18] treatment is like taking a cruise ship
[18:20] and making it into a speedboat. It makes
[18:21] no sense. And he'd rather have the Aston
[18:23] DBS, which was its competitor at the
[18:25] time, which I guess I kind of agree.
[18:27] Even though Clarkson eviscerated the
[18:28] Vanquish when it came out because the
[18:30] flappy paddle gearbox was a total mess
[18:32] at the time and pretty much tank values
[18:34] forever, I still prefer the Vanquish.
[18:36] And speaking of British cars, the other
[18:37] one to go is this Range Rover over here,
[18:40] the P38, which I bought for very low
[18:43] money and actually didn't spend more
[18:44] than I think a couple grand on it fixing
[18:46] it up. I have the hood popped because it
[18:48] sits on a trickle charger because it
[18:49] really doesn't move all that much and
[18:50] the battery goes flat if it sits for
[18:51] more than a couple of weeks. But inside,
[18:53] you can see beautiful leather interior
[18:55] around 120,000 mi. And this one, I have
[18:58] no idea what it'll bring. It is a very
[19:00] nice example of a P38. It still has some
[19:02] minor issues, but it's air ride
[19:04] suspension's been converted and it
[19:05] should be a good car for somebody. So,
[19:06] we'll see what it brings. Honestly, the
[19:08] moment this showed up, my Jeep Grand
[19:10] Wagon Ear, which is another old school
[19:12] luxury SUV, I parked the Range Rover and
[19:14] never thought about it ever again. So,
[19:15] getting some money so I can go through
[19:16] this one and make it into the ultimate
[19:18] Grand Wagon Ear. That needs to happen.
[19:20] But I do also need some cheddar. And
[19:22] speaking of, this is the last car inside
[19:23] that I'm selling. No reserve on Cars and
[19:25] Bids, and that is the 1923 Packard
[19:28] Doctor's Coupe. So, this is an original
[19:30] Survivor for the most part. A few little
[19:32] touch-ups here and there. You can see
[19:33] like somebody broomed on some paint
[19:35] here, but this is a Survivor from 1923.
[19:38] And in line 6, it hadn't ran in some
[19:40] time. John Ross and I got it going. And,
[19:43] you know, it still has some problems
[19:44] with the clutch. It likes to stick when
[19:46] it's sitting, that kind of stuff. But,
[19:47] it is drivable. It's really easy to
[19:49] unstick the clutch and once you're going
[19:50] down the road, it's totally fine. But I
[19:52] haven't driven it much at all. Honestly,
[19:54] I want something with a straight eight,
[19:56] either be a Packard or something of that
[19:58] era that has a much bigger engine that
[20:00] can cruise at like 70, 80 mph. Even
[20:02] though this one is pretty capable for a
[20:03] car from 1923. It's just not something
[20:06] that I drive all that much. And I find
[20:08] myself hopping in the 1946 Chrysler, my
[20:11] other antique car, a whole lot more
[20:13] because with its straight eight and
[20:14] four-speed semi-automatic transmission,
[20:16] it can go down the highway no problem.
[20:18] And I do really, really like this thing.
[20:21] So, even though this one's been in the
[20:22] fleet longer, I like it better than the
[20:24] Packard. So, that is why the Packard is
[20:26] going. Now, there is one more outside, I
[20:28] think. I think Oh, yeah. I wish I could
[20:32] forget this thing. The world's worst 997
[20:34] Porsche 911. I am selling no reserve on
[20:36] cars and bids. I have no idea what it'll
[20:38] bring. But on bring a trailer, there was
[20:40] one that also had cylinder scoring,
[20:42] although it was in very, very nice
[20:43] condition. It brought 44 $45,000.
[20:47] Had 60,000 mi on it. Carrer, it makes no
[20:50] sense. Porsche people are crazy. So, I'm
[20:52] putting this up no reserve because I
[20:53] guess somebody who's a hobbyist could
[20:55] rebuild the motor themselves, could go
[20:57] through and restore it themselves. It's
[20:58] the world's first 997 restoration
[21:01] project because the engine has cylinder
[21:03] scoring. It smokes on startup, but it is
[21:05] quiet and goes down the road uh pretty
[21:07] well. I mean, it needs brakes. It needs
[21:09] suspension. It needs air conditioning.
[21:11] It needs it needs a lot. The sunroof
[21:12] doesn't work. Uh the paint's shot.
[21:15] There's also rust on the exhaust and the
[21:17] undercarriage and the brake lines and
[21:18] that kind of stuff. So, it's it's a full
[21:20] out restoration project of a 2007 911,
[21:22] which I trusted a viewer who told me it
[21:25] drove good. He put 200 miles on it. He
[21:26] took it on trade at his boat dealership.
[21:28] So, this is last and certainly the worst
[21:30] of the no reserve cars on cars and bids.
[21:32] But there's also one other Porsche, my
[21:33] 2010 Panamera 4S that I did sell so
[21:36] quickly that I forgot to even take a
[21:37] video of it going as one of Rob's
[21:39] friends, the guy buying the Bentley,
[21:41] came by and looked at the Porsche and
[21:43] bought it immediately. It was going to
[21:44] go on Cars and Bids, but he talked me
[21:46] out of it for 13 grand, which I didn't
[21:48] lose a whole lot on that one. And had a
[21:50] pretty fun 6 month or 3,000ish miles
[21:52] driving experience, so I'd say that one
[21:54] is definitely a win for me. But if you
[21:56] click the link below, you can see all of
[21:57] my auctions currently no reserve on Cars
[21:59] and Bids. Daddy Doug is taking care of
[22:01] me as he always does. I'm actually
[22:03] leaving here soon to visit him in San
[22:04] Diego to film some content with him
[22:06] since my collection is going up on
[22:07] there. So, you have that to look forward
[22:08] to. But, please bid if you're serious
[22:10] and want a hooptie. Even that one. Yes.
[22:14] Thank you so much for watching.
