AI Summary

This video is a comprehensive beginner's guide to Dota 2, covering how to start playing, game modes, currencies, events, hotkeys, camera control, and basic gameplay mechanics. It aims to help new players understand the game's systems and get started with confidence.

[00:00]
Introduction and Video Scope

The video covers how to start playing Dota 2, including career, farming, game modes (unranked, ranked), patch frequency, events, currencies, hotkeys, camera control, and quickcast.

[00:47]
Game Client Overview

The Dota 2 client has a 'Play Dota' button with options: Custom Lobby, Play vs Bots (recommended for beginners), and Ranked (locked until 100 hours of game time).

[01:42]
Ranked Queue Options

Ranked offers Role Queue (pick a role) or Classic (draft roles in-game). Role Queue forces players to take less desirable roles, with safe lane being most desired.

[03:00]
Role Queue System

Selecting all roles earns role queue games (4 for win, 2 for loss). These can be spent to queue for a preferred role, ensuring matchmaking balance.

[05:04]
Unranked and Turbo Modes

Unranked All Pick is standard; Turbo is faster with more gold/XP but not recommended for new players. New Player Mode offers limited hero pool and automatic item delivery.

[06:28]
In-Game Tutorials and Learn Tab

Dota 2 has in-game tutorials teaching basics like courier use. The Learn tab provides a glossary of mechanics, heroes, items, and more.

[10:16]
Events and Battle Pass

Valve's battle pass system (discontinued in 2023) offered seasonal rewards. Now events like Frostivus occur roughly every 3 months. Patches are frequent (8 massive patches in 16 months).

[13:31]
Starting a Game: Pre-Game and Laning

Before the game, you buy starting items. Creeps meet at 0:00; bounty runes spawn before that. Last hitting creeps and denying (when below 50% HP) are core mechanics.

[17:11]
Camera Control and Hotkeys

Camera can be moved via edge pan, middle mouse drag, or arrow keys. Middle mouse drag is recommended for keeping hero centered. Hotkeys include F2 for courier, space to recenter hero, and control groups.

[26:03]
Quickcast vs Slow Cast

Quickcast casts abilities on key press without left-click, but beginners should use slow cast to learn ability ranges. Items are used with ZXCVBN or 123456.

Dota 2 is a complex but rewarding game. Beginners should start with tutorials, bots, and unranked modes, gradually learning mechanics like last hitting, denying, and courier control. The video provides a solid foundation for new players.

4 15:23 Go to your lane and collect bounty runes before creeps meet.
5 15:55 Last hit enemy creeps to earn gold; deny your own creeps when below 50% HP.
6 21:48 Use F2 to control courier; buy items from shop and deliver them using mouse buttons.
7 26:03 Use slow cast (default) for abilities to learn ranges; switch to quickcast later.
8 29:57 Use middle mouse button drag to move camera while keeping hero centered.

[00:00] hello and welcome to another Dota 2

[00:02] introductory video in my previous video

[00:04] I introdu to the Lane setup the

[00:06] positions of radiant and dire and talked

[00:09] about smokes and ws and game objectives

[00:11] and how to win and so on in the lane

[00:14] setup and you can see the link in the

[00:15] description below for this next video

[00:18] I'm going to be talking about how to

[00:19] actually start playing uh things like

[00:21] the career how to start like an actual

[00:24] game of Dota 2 how to farm the different

[00:26] game modes like unranked ranked and I

[00:29] want to talk a little bit about like the

[00:30] the beat the content beat of the game

[00:33] how often do new patches come out what

[00:35] kind of fun events are there and what

[00:37] about the currencies and the resources

[00:39] in the game and also maybe a little bit

[00:41] into hotkeys camera control settings and

[00:44] quick ass so let's begin when you open

[00:47] the Dota 2 client this is the screen

[00:49] that you are greeted with you've got the

[00:50] play DotA button and there are many

[00:52] options custom Lobby is where you start

[00:54] a custom game and you can play with

[00:56] friends or this is how tournaments are

[00:58] created play play versus Bots I think is

[01:01] a pretty decent way to get started

[01:03] without being exposed to the duress of

[01:06] playing with allies and against

[01:08] opponents the blls aren't very difficult

[01:10] and it's kind of an Stressless way to

[01:13] try out builds to figure out Champs

[01:16] Heroes h i play League 2 these days to

[01:19] figure out Heroes uh and so on and so

[01:22] forth so I find this a pretty good way

[01:24] to kind of get a feeling for the game

[01:26] and if you want to you could play this

[01:27] cooperatively as well ranked will

[01:30] actually be locked until you get 100

[01:34] hours of game time in so that's tucked

[01:37] away quite far

[01:39] away and once you do start ranked you've

[01:42] got two options you can either play Roll

[01:44] queue where you actually pick the role

[01:46] that you would like to play as and

[01:48] you'll be expected to reprise that role

[01:50] be it hard sport which is 5 4 3 2 1 or

[01:54] you can go with the classic style at

[01:57] very high rank which is probably not a

[01:59] concern for you if you're watching this

[02:01] video everyone is playing classic style

[02:03] which pretty much means you just group

[02:05] up I mean you just search a game and

[02:08] when you get into a Lobby there's 10

[02:10] players and then five players will be

[02:11] drafted on either side and once it's 5v5

[02:15] you figure out what role do you want to

[02:17] play what role do I want to play and

[02:19] then you parlay and sometimes if both

[02:21] players want to play position one you'll

[02:24] actually type slash roll and it'll roll

[02:26] a die and it'll look like

[02:28] this and well it actually doesn't work

[02:31] in this one apparently uh but it'll

[02:33] randomly R roll from one to 100 and the

[02:36] higher number gets to have dibs shotgun

[02:39] on the roll that is uh desirable this is

[02:42] true at high rank or if you pick it but

[02:45] to me my chat recommended me to play

[02:47] Roll q and I've never regretted it I've

[02:49] never played classic I like to know who

[02:52] I'm going to be playing as now the roll

[02:55] system is interesting because it kind of

[02:57] forces everyone to take less desirable

[02:59] role

[03:00] the most desirable role in Dota 2 right

[03:02] now is safe Lane safe Lane is the carry

[03:06] they are the ones that have the greatest

[03:07] power fantasy potential in that you

[03:10] could one V5 essentially if you become

[03:12] strong

[03:13] enough though of course it doesn't

[03:15] always materialize that way and this is

[03:17] the most desired uh and let's leave out

[03:20] the reasons just based on experience

[03:23] safe Lane is most desired so let's say

[03:26] if you queue up as all five rolls you

[03:28] will pretty much never get get safe

[03:30] lanee but you want to do this anyway why

[03:33] it's because by selecting all rolls

[03:34] you'll earn four roll queue games for

[03:37] future use if you win only two if you

[03:40] lose and as you can see I've got 29 roll

[03:42] que games left and those can be used for

[03:44] a preferential roll so let's say if I

[03:46] prefer safe Lane then I will be spending

[03:49] one roll queue game and in doing so the

[03:52] system kind of stimulates for you to

[03:55] explore all the roles and to make sure

[03:57] that the Matchmaker has a fair

[03:59] representation of different players that

[04:01] can you know play every role otherwise

[04:03] if everyone queed up a safe Lane it

[04:05] would get gridlocked and no one would be

[04:07] able to find a game so I've quite

[04:09] enjoyed the versatility and the variety

[04:11] that this system has brought the shared

[04:13] responsibility of reprising different

[04:15] roles and personally I really like the

[04:18] support roles so it has never felt like

[04:20] a punishment to me though from

[04:22] witnessing other players sometimes

[04:24] people do feel it as punishment and

[04:26] anytime you watch one of my videos and

[04:28] I'll call them a pretender or fraud or

[04:31] whatever in the support role or we call

[04:33] them the rooll Q system supporter that's

[04:37] pretty much like saying they're not

[04:39] really doing a good job as a support

[04:41] based on the level that they're playing

[04:43] at they're kind of phoning it in and

[04:45] doing like 12 to 20 games where they're

[04:47] kind of bad in the support role but

[04:49] they're just making ends meet and then

[04:51] they're looking forward to another 60

[04:53] games in their preferential role so

[04:56] that's the rank system not relevant for

[04:58] you as a beginner yet but eventually you

[05:00] may want to play ranked though no shame

[05:02] if you never want to do and then there's

[05:04] the unranked system with both all pick

[05:07] which is just like ranked except uh not

[05:11] ranked this is where you generally start

[05:13] with and where you'll spend most of your

[05:15] time and then there's the turbo mode

[05:17] which is a shorter version some people

[05:19] swear by this and they become massive

[05:21] turbo fans everything is faster you get

[05:24] more gold more XP I don't recommend this

[05:26] for newer players I personally don't

[05:28] enjoy the mode but I can see the appeal

[05:30] for others and usually most people will

[05:33] either only play normal modes unranked

[05:36] opic and ranked or they'll only play

[05:38] Turbo you've got really strong fans on

[05:40] either

[05:42] side uh and then there's some other

[05:44] modes as well which are also interesting

[05:47] but I haven't got a lot of experience

[05:48] and I won't be talking to you about it

[05:50] and then there's the new player mode I

[05:52] actually introduced Dota 2 a little bit

[05:53] to my brother who had never played

[05:55] before and I found this to be actually a

[05:58] really good way to start not a lot of

[06:00] people talk about this because most

[06:02] people that know DOTA are more

[06:03] experienced already so it never even

[06:06] came up I never played this myself as

[06:08] chat never recommended me to play this

[06:10] but it exists and it's okay it's a small

[06:12] limited hero pool with easier CH uh

[06:15] Heroes to play and also there's

[06:17] automatic item delivery and a bunch of

[06:19] other nice

[06:20] advantages so that's the new player mode

[06:24] and uh the kind of different game modes

[06:26] that you have so how do you actually

[06:28] start playing like what do you actually

[06:30] do in a game of DOTA there's a couple of

[06:32] in-game tutorials and I do recommend

[06:35] trying them out they teach a bunch of

[06:37] basic mechanics though a few of my

[06:40] followers have said not all of them have

[06:42] a conclusion that will end up giving you

[06:44] the tick mark saying you're done with it

[06:46] it's not so important to get the

[06:47] achievements here as it is to learn a

[06:49] bunch of different concepts you'll click

[06:52] on one of these missions and you'll

[06:53] start to learn some things about you

[06:56] know how to use the Courier which is

[06:58] actually a little animal that will bring

[06:59] you your items but in a normal game

[07:02] you'll need to start learning how to use

[07:04] it yourself you can use hotkeys to

[07:06] control them or you can just drag box

[07:08] select select click it and make it do

[07:11] what you want it to do I recommend

[07:13] playing all of these they're pretty fun

[07:15] and short they don't feel like a dull

[07:18] tutorial uh thing it's no longer than it

[07:21] needs to be it respects your time and

[07:23] it'll teach you a bunch of different

[07:25] concepts that will be incredibly useful

[07:27] once you start playing Dota 2

[07:29] some of it may be a little outdated

[07:31] since there have been new patches but I

[07:33] think it gives you a good running start

[07:37] right additionally if you're looking to

[07:39] learn more about how how DOTA to works

[07:42] you can press the learn tab on top of

[07:44] the screen you can go through some of

[07:46] these uh Basics that are here there's a

[07:49] search function so you can learn more

[07:50] about the thing you're looking to learn

[07:52] about and the basics are also explained

[07:54] by clicking all these tabs this is not a

[07:57] well- hidden glossery but nobody talks

[08:00] about it and it took me a long time to

[08:02] find actually as well but I think it's

[08:04] useful it'll tell you things like how

[08:06] many Heroes there are the different

[08:07] attributes that they come in though by

[08:09] now there's a fourth basic category

[08:13] Universal heroes are either ranged or

[08:15] melee and you unlock your ultimate

[08:17] ability at level six then about items

[08:20] which I want to talk a little bit more

[08:21] about as well soon as we jump into a

[08:23] Game Heroes equip items that improve

[08:25] their stats and they also change how a

[08:27] hero is played and in this way I think

[08:30] Dota 2 is quite different from Heroes of

[08:32] the Storm and partially from League of

[08:35] Legends most items in League of Legends

[08:38] amplify your power but of course there

[08:40] are also play style modifiers in League

[08:43] of Legends items in that they can offer

[08:46] a slow a movement amp to your team they

[08:48] can have Global effects like a global

[08:50] nuke or a global heal Etc so there are

[08:53] play style modifying items there but I

[08:55] think none of the mobas have it quite as

[08:57] big as Dota 2 where someone that might

[09:00] normally not do a lot of damage suddenly

[09:02] will do loads or someone that is very

[09:04] immobile suddenly becomes a Mobility

[09:06] Queen

[09:07] Etc items are purchased either at the

[09:10] shopkeeper which is in your starting

[09:12] Fountain where you start the game but

[09:14] there's a secondary shop where you can

[09:16] buy items it's called The Secret shop

[09:18] roughly in the middle of the map one on

[09:20] the left one on the right one kind of on

[09:22] your side one kind of on the

[09:25] ears and and then it will explain you

[09:27] about the basics like the lanes the

[09:29] creeps the towers every 30 seconds a

[09:32] creep wave will spawn across all three

[09:34] lanes and you get golden XP from it you

[09:37] know basically some of the stuff that we

[09:38] covered you go to the mechanics it's

[09:41] like Heroes can get up to level 30 you

[09:44] get new abilities at various levels how

[09:46] you get gold how experience works so

[09:50] very interesting you can read about

[09:52] everything at your leisure and you can

[09:55] do this while searching for a game or

[09:57] before you go into a game the mechanics

[09:59] of death and how long it takes you to

[10:02] respawn uh so actually a lot of

[10:04] interesting uh interesting stats if you

[10:07] like numbers this isn't essential to get

[10:10] started but if you like numbers you can

[10:12] go through these and there's a lot of

[10:13] info there so then let's talk a little

[10:16] bit about the events before I teach you

[10:18] about how to control the things that you

[10:21] want to do inside the game valve is

[10:23] actually the original creator of the

[10:25] battle pass system which is now

[10:27] ubiquitously known

[10:29] uh gaming system that basically measures

[10:32] progress in different ways than just MMR

[10:35] right it's an activity stimulating

[10:37] system that uh makes people feel like

[10:40] there's extra meaning to every game that

[10:42] they play so that you can unlock

[10:44] different skins if we go to the Armory

[10:46] and you see all these different skins

[10:48] some of the unavailable ones like this

[10:51] kka skin might only be able to be earned

[10:55] through some battle pass from many years

[10:57] ago it creates a level of scarcity and

[11:00] Rarity that I can never get this anymore

[11:03] except if I buy it on the marketplace

[11:05] but someone else earned them through the

[11:07] uh battle pass the battle pass as of

[11:10] this year 2023 has been

[11:12] discontinued this used to be an event

[11:14] that ran around as a story beat around

[11:17] the international which is a big

[11:18] International Tournament for Dota 2 with

[11:20] a very large price pool though a little

[11:22] bit smaller this year than in the

[11:23] previous 8

[11:25] years and a lot of people liked it and a

[11:28] lot of people hated it and a lot of

[11:30] people likeed to hate it battle pass was

[11:32] a season Achievement System with lots of

[11:35] skins and so on and cosmetics that made

[11:40] people feel like they're part of a

[11:42] greater hole in the world but it also

[11:45] was very good at extracting a lot of

[11:47] extra money from people that weren't

[11:49] just able to grind up levels to get

[11:51] extra rewards but they had to buy extra

[11:54] progress in order to get to their next

[11:56] reward tiers to get certain desirable

[11:58] Rewards

[11:59] so people are basically somewhat

[12:01] complaining that it's not there anymore

[12:03] so that they can't give money to Val

[12:05] anymore even though Val said they wanted

[12:07] to spread out its content density across

[12:10] the year to many different events Frost

[12:12] ofus that we see here is um a event that

[12:17] is part of the more disintegrated battle

[12:20] pass we had another event recently which

[12:22] was called uh event Frontiers or long

[12:25] Frontiers or something and then they

[12:27] actually made a massive change to the

[12:28] map as we know it making it bigger what

[12:30] you can expect now is probably slightly

[12:33] less price money funneling towards the V

[12:35] the battle pass but more events across

[12:37] the year usually probably about three

[12:39] months apart and then uh you there'll be

[12:42] like fun things to reward if that's your

[12:44] kind of thing I don't spend as much time

[12:47] trying to earn emoticons sprays and

[12:48] stickers but for some people that's a

[12:50] fun little extra aspect of the game

[12:54] right as for actual balance and gameplay

[12:57] changes I have been playing for one year

[12:59] and 4 months and I've probably gone

[13:01] through what I would categorize as

[13:04] eight massive patches some

[13:08] people some people are like oh this

[13:10] patch is small to me it's the biggest

[13:11] patch I've ever seen in a multiplayer

[13:13] game that I've played eight massive

[13:15] patches probably about eight small

[13:17] patches if I had to estimate or so

[13:19] almost every month there's some kind of

[13:21] gameplay balance patch that has small

[13:22] interesting changes that keeps the game

[13:24] fresh so it's been very fun for me to be

[13:26] a part of the game so far all right so

[13:28] that's about patches now let's talk

[13:31] about how to actually start a game so if

[13:33] you start a game of Dota 2 and you play

[13:36] against bots for instance you start a b

[13:37] match you can pick one of the Champions

[13:41] one of the heroes let's say I pick

[13:43] bloodseeker you lock it in now you get

[13:47] 30 seconds to pick your items before

[13:49] actually starting the game bloodseeker

[13:52] is most often seen as a position one

[13:55] hero safe Lane hero also called the

[13:57] carry and and he starts over here if

[14:00] you're on radiant side you'll buy some

[14:02] items for instance double Branch a ciret

[14:05] slippers Tango and quing more on that

[14:08] later when I later on do a deep dive

[14:10] about items we're not going to get too

[14:11] deep into that but suffice to say that

[14:14] in the 30 seconds of the at the final

[14:16] end of a draft you can buy items already

[14:19] instead of having to wait till the game

[14:21] actually

[14:23] launches after this loading screen and

[14:25] then having to do it in the scramble of

[14:27] running out the game

[14:29] some games like Heroes of the Storm will

[14:31] gate you inside your base so in Heroes

[14:34] of the Storm this will be stuck for 30

[14:37] seconds so you cannot leave the gate and

[14:39] that's how you create an artificial time

[14:40] where people can think about things and

[14:42] they can worry about who goes where and

[14:44] so on in League of Legends you're stuck

[14:47] in the fountain for like five or 10

[14:49] seconds before you can leave and that

[14:50] might be the time that you use to buy

[14:52] items but in Dota 2 it's before the game

[14:54] even starts that you can buy your

[14:56] opening items as you can see in the

[14:57] bottom right here there 15 gold left

[14:59] I've got everything I need so I can

[15:01] theoretically immediately go into the

[15:03] map and start uh you know with all the

[15:06] items that I want so in a game of Dota 2

[15:11] you can uh you can walk to the Lane and

[15:14] and just wait for the creeps to meet but

[15:16] there's many other objectives which

[15:18] we'll cover in the next video that you

[15:20] may go towards first suffice to say that

[15:23] before the creeps meet there are four

[15:25] Bounty runes here here here and here

[15:29] they give a little bit of extra gold and

[15:31] they provide a chance for teams to

[15:33] Skirmish and to show their skill

[15:36] difference and they're fighting

[15:37] difference you go there before the

[15:38] creeps meet and it's the first objective

[15:40] of the game essentially they give gold

[15:42] to your team or to the enemy team and as

[15:44] you see the AI are fighting for it

[15:47] picking up those B runes and then it

[15:49] leads to fun little skirmishes after all

[15:52] that is said and done you end up going

[15:53] to the Tower and you'll try to start

[15:55] hitting the creeps to last hit their

[15:57] creeps and and it's also possible in

[16:00] Dota 2 you can kill your own creeps to

[16:02] deny them to the opponent which will

[16:04] deny golden experience but it's only

[16:06] possible when they're half life or less

[16:08] again complicated mechanics we'll get

[16:10] into them in a deep dive later but I'm

[16:12] just showing you kind of the process of

[16:14] the game so let's say here the two creep

[16:17] waves meet as you notice it's very close

[16:19] to the tower that's why this Lane is

[16:20] called the safe

[16:22] lane and then you just wait till like

[16:25] creeps drop low and then when they're

[16:27] really low you hit them

[16:29] you get the satisfying gold

[16:31] sound 36 gold you start getting

[16:34] experience and that's pretty much the

[16:36] bread and butter of generating net worth

[16:38] in Dota 2 you can get net worth via

[16:41] objectives net worth meaning gold you

[16:44] can get it fire hitting

[16:46] creeps you can get it VI hitting jungle

[16:49] creeps and you can get it VI killing

[16:52] enemy hero or even enemy buildings so

[16:55] lots of different ways to get gold and

[16:57] lots of different ways to lose it if you

[16:59] die you can lose gold so this is pretty

[17:02] much how games will look like you'll

[17:03] fight your opponent Heroes you hit your

[17:06] own creeps you hit their creeps and

[17:08] that's pretty much all you need to know

[17:09] for now for this explanation but how the

[17:11] hell do you control your units how do

[17:13] you control your Heroes Al DOA 2 is

[17:16] perhaps the most complicated and uh

[17:19] difficult uh MOA at least in terms of

[17:22] all the different things you can and

[17:24] need to do leak is difficult because you

[17:26] need Lightning Fast reflexes and there's

[17:28] a lot of mechanics and skill shots Dota

[17:31] 2 is more of a a strategical uh

[17:35] focus and the hard part is to know how

[17:37] to do all the things so I hope that

[17:39] these videos will help you a little bit

[17:41] how to do things more so if you if you

[17:45] um take a look here at my

[17:49] hder there are a lot of different

[17:52] settings in Dota 2 and they're super

[17:54] complicated to begin with if you don't

[17:57] know

[17:59] if you don't know what you prefer and

[18:01] you're not as experienced in them what

[18:03] you could do is just to copy everything

[18:05] that I have to that note I'm going to go

[18:08] through all my settings so that you can

[18:09] see what I have and your starting point

[18:12] could be to copy all of it I think I

[18:14] have a pretty good setup for settings

[18:17] and of course you can change things as

[18:19] you like but at least you'll have one

[18:20] template to build off of so I'll show

[18:23] all the different pages you can pause

[18:25] the video so I'm not going to show them

[18:27] for too long and you could copy all the

[18:28] settings this is hot Keys here are the

[18:31] advanced

[18:33] hotkeys these are the

[18:36] options and the advanced

[18:38] options social settings here are the

[18:42] video settings that I

[18:44] have audio settings with voice chat

[18:48] being enabled and I recommend as a new

[18:50] player to have it disabled so that you

[18:52] can't hear anybody I did that for my

[18:54] first 100 games and it prevented me from

[18:58] perhaps s being distracted by teammates

[19:00] or maybe suffering the worst of

[19:04] potential toxicity for people that don't

[19:06] understand that new players are new but

[19:09] right now I have it at 100% so these are

[19:12] my audio settings and here is my account

[19:15] settings not much there so why do I do

[19:18] the things I do and what do you need to

[19:20] know in League of Legends and in Dota as

[19:23] far as I know you cannot deselect your

[19:25] hero it is always selected this is a

[19:28] friendly way to not lose track of your

[19:31] hero but in Dota I could select an ally

[19:35] and not know where my hero is and for

[19:37] that you need a hotkey and if you've

[19:39] seen if you've gone through my hot keys

[19:41] and you've seen it you'll know that I

[19:42] press space to recenter on my hero that

[19:45] can be a useful thing to do Dota 2 came

[19:48] forth from an RTS and as

[19:51] such it follows many of the rules that

[19:54] Warcraft 3 had and what many rtss have

[19:57] is that you can do control groups

[19:59] control groups is as follows if you use

[20:02] the hkey control and at the same time

[20:05] you also use the hotkey one you

[20:08] are essentially creating a control group

[20:11] that later you can refer to so if then

[20:14] later you press the hotkey one you will

[20:17] refer to the group that you had

[20:18] previously saved so if I take this

[20:21] bloodseeker and I say control one he is

[20:23] now group one then if I go here and I

[20:25] press one it selects blood seek here and

[20:28] if I double tap it it highlights him in

[20:31] the middle of the screen likewise space

[20:34] Also brings me to my hero and highlights

[20:36] him in the middle of the screen as per

[20:38] the hot keys that I've set up I smell

[20:41] you sometimes have secondary heroes or

[20:43] summons in DOA you can pregroup them on

[20:46] cons group two or three as you like and

[20:49] the really neat thing about DOTA is next

[20:51] time you start a game it remembers Miss

[20:54] even if it's like a water Elemental that

[20:55] you could only summon when you get level

[20:57] six or when you're level two or whatever

[21:00] by the time you summon them it's

[21:01] automatically still remembered that

[21:03] that's your consol group two which is

[21:05] really neat so there you be like one

[21:07] goes here two goes here missing so

[21:10] that's pretty cool the next thing I

[21:12] wanted to show you is basically how you

[21:15] use the hot keys that I showed in the

[21:18] hotkey section in an actual game so

[21:21] let's jump into a custom Lobby and I'll

[21:24] talk to you about some of the hot keys

[21:26] that I've chosen so I'm going to buy

[21:28] some items and then we're going to jump

[21:31] into a game right so I've gone with

[21:34] death profit and I walk out of the

[21:36] fountain so how do you play a regular

[21:39] game of Dota 2 well you go to the Lane

[21:41] that is assigned to you or that you

[21:43] think you should be going

[21:45] at and then the way that I've set up my

[21:48] hotkeys which I which I showed you in my

[21:50] hotkey overview is by pressing F2 I can

[21:55] control my Courier The Courier is is

[21:58] this little thing here in the fountain

[22:00] that can carry items so what happens

[22:03] when you buy an item is it will go onto

[22:06] the Courier here and you can then press

[22:08] a hotkey to bring the Courier and have

[22:11] it deliver items to you yes so say for

[22:14] instance that this

[22:15] career I'm I'm fighting and I've got

[22:18] these items and I want to buy a null

[22:19] Talisman which I need money for let's

[22:22] say that this is the null Talisman and

[22:24] The Courier in the fountain waiting with

[22:27] certain item

[22:28] the way I've got it set up is that my

[22:31] mouse buttons where my thumb rests on

[22:33] the mouse the the button that's higher

[22:35] up will make me automatically deliver

[22:39] items from The Courier to the hero

[22:42] whereas the button Mouse button three I

[22:46] think it's called the one that's closer

[22:47] to my uh wrist that one purchases items

[22:51] on the quick bar so how do you put an

[22:54] item on the quick bar you hold down

[22:56] shift and then you click an it item in

[22:58] the shop I know the shop looks really

[23:00] intimidating right now and it's

[23:01] partially covered by my chat but just as

[23:04] an example say I want to buy a Vitality

[23:06] booster I hold down shift I left click

[23:09] it and then it puts it in the quick bar

[23:12] now when I press the initial Mouse

[23:14] button on the left it is going to

[23:16] purchase that item once I have enough

[23:18] money for it I'm 850 gold short and then

[23:22] I can use the other Mouse button Mouse

[23:24] button three and four to send the item

[23:26] towards me and that's generally how

[23:28] you'll play the game you'll get gold and

[23:30] then you buy items on The Courier and

[23:32] then you'll send the items to you and it

[23:34] delivers it to you but there is one

[23:36] catch your Courier can die on the way so

[23:39] you might want to control it uh manually

[23:42] and that's where the F2 comes in F2

[23:44] being the uh control of The Courier so

[23:48] now I can use shift commands and say

[23:50] walk here and then here and then here

[23:53] and then here and so it's going to take

[23:55] this this path and avoid what I perceive

[23:58] could be certain dangerous areas F4 for

[24:02] me is opening up the shop so that I can

[24:04] look what there is and pressing F4 again

[24:05] will'll close

[24:07] it then F9 is pausing the game for me

[24:11] and F1 is holding open my push to talk

[24:14] microphone button my items are used with

[24:19] zxc vbn which is actually the default

[24:23] way that DOTA sets it up but some people

[24:25] like to change these to 1 2 3 4 5 six

[24:29] instead if you do that then you can't

[24:31] use control groups the same way that I

[24:33] do so that's going to be a very personal

[24:35] option that you will have to calibrate

[24:36] yourself I enjoy the zxe vbn system but

[24:40] there's lots of different possibilities

[24:42] and you should find what works for you

[24:44] very good a is attack move s is stop H

[24:48] is hold and make sure that you don't

[24:49] even engage anyone in

[24:52] fight and as you get certain new

[24:55] abilities via sometimes the Agony

[24:58] scepter and Shard upgrades which I'm not

[25:00] going to get into yet the D and F hot

[25:03] keys will also be used to activate those

[25:05] abilities so you'll have your qwe your R

[25:09] and then d and f as well for me holding

[25:12] the Y hotkey brings open an emote window

[25:16] which is very important after you kill

[25:18] someone you hold down Y and you click

[25:21] this twice in a row if you want to be

[25:24] really

[25:26] obnoxious holding down you has other

[25:29] voice lines for me like this one oh I

[25:32] can't there's a Spam anti- spam and then

[25:35] holding down I has other hot uh emotes

[25:38] as well and you can calibrate these via

[25:41] this setting the customized chat wheel

[25:44] and also this one customize the Ping

[25:47] wheel then you've got also the um the

[25:52] phrases that you can go into and check

[25:54] as well and assign to certain hot Keys

[25:57] really really useful I haven't got into

[25:59] it yet but I

[26:00] should uh that's about control groups

[26:03] and then abilities I have mindset on qwe

[26:07] and then this is R this is your basic

[26:10] abilities this is your old unlike in

[26:12] years of the storm you do not start with

[26:14] all your basic abilities unlocked you

[26:16] will pick one per level when you level

[26:18] up and you can either choose to go with

[26:20] the quickcast system or the slow cast

[26:23] the normal default setting is that you

[26:25] press W and and then you aim within the

[26:28] green circle and it'll put a blue circle

[26:31] worth of area of effect that is the

[26:34] normal uh default setting slow cast so

[26:37] if I do this for instance it's going to

[26:40] cast blood right

[26:41] there but the way that I have it set now

[26:44] is quickcast that means that triggered

[26:47] on key press the moment I W the system

[26:52] automatically applies a left click for

[26:55] you and I don't even have to do the left

[26:57] click myself that's why it's called

[26:59] quickcast This is faster and

[27:02] theoretically it's better for a perfect

[27:05] human being and a perfect player you

[27:07] would

[27:08] know you would know the exact potential

[27:11] range for your blood R so you wouldn't

[27:13] need to know where that green circle is

[27:15] cu in your mind's eye you see it so I

[27:18] don't need to First click this and then

[27:20] aim I would just use Quick cast and cast

[27:22] it automatically but we are not perfect

[27:25] players we are potentially newbies or we

[27:27] are fallible humans and because of that

[27:30] I recommend everyone not to use

[27:32] quickcast when they are beginning in the

[27:35] game this way you will learn the

[27:38] settings

[27:40] that uh you will learn via the settings

[27:43] missing top how far the range of your

[27:46] abilities is everything will take a

[27:48] little bit longer to do but without that

[27:50] you would never even realize the range

[27:53] that some of your spells have if you

[27:55] start with quickcast in a game you you

[27:57] end up using spells next to you never

[28:00] realizing that they're

[28:02] Global because you've never seen the

[28:04] range and you didn't go through the

[28:05] effort of hovering over your ability to

[28:07] see their

[28:08] range quickcast is better but many

[28:11] players will prefer to do it differently

[28:13] and ultimately it is preferential but I

[28:16] recommend for the first few hundred

[28:17] games or at least a few dozen games with

[28:20] a hero is to not use it

[28:26] yet

[28:29] then when it comes to camera control you

[28:32] can move your camera in multiple ways

[28:33] you can use your arrow keys to pan the

[28:37] camera you can Edge pan by moving the

[28:40] cursor to the edge of the screen you can

[28:42] also hold the middle Mouse button which

[28:44] means that you essentially drag the map

[28:48] as if you're holding it in this one

[28:49] place just like if you grab a map or and

[28:53] move it over the wooden table when I

[28:55] started playing DOTA I used Ed spanning

[28:58] which was most common for me in rtss

[29:01] Edge spanning is pretty nice you move

[29:04] your cursor to the side and then your

[29:06] camera goes there it's fast it travels

[29:08] notably faster than Mouse wheel pressing

[29:13] but the problem with Edge Banning is

[29:16] your cursor is on the side of the screen

[29:18] and theoretically in a MOA with your one

[29:21] hero being so important you usually want

[29:23] to keep your hero somewhat Central in

[29:26] your camera view

[29:28] and you want to keep your cursor

[29:29] somewhat Central next to your hero as

[29:32] that is going to be the most relevant to

[29:34] dodge enemies run away from people or to

[29:37] click them because of this the dominant

[29:39] camera control system in in Dota has

[29:42] become to use little drags of mouse

[29:45] wheel that's why you sometimes see

[29:47] people do this and it looks very

[29:50] jerky but it kind of keeps your hero in

[29:53] the center and it also allows you to

[29:55] keep doing right clicks where you're

[29:56] moving see

[29:57] I'm doing right clicks and I'm moving

[29:59] there even as I'm also using my index

[30:01] finger to press on the mouse wheel

[30:03] button try to do the same with Edge

[30:06] Banning and it's not very easy is it cuz

[30:09] it it it just keeps moving back and

[30:11] forth has been killed so now you see why

[30:13] that's a popular system you could also

[30:15] use the the mouse cursor uh you could

[30:18] also use the arrow keys on the keyboard

[30:20] to move around but it's also a little

[30:22] bit jerkier though you can adjust the

[30:24] sensitivity but then your left hand

[30:26] wouldn't be

[30:28] available for

[30:30] qw

[30:33] yes so that's kind of the about the

[30:35] camera control system double

[30:37] damage we've talked about quick ass I've

[30:40] shown you the settings I've talked about

[30:42] hot Keys uh you can level up your

[30:44] abilities by pressing control Q when

[30:46] there's a level

[30:48] up so that's mostly what you need to

[30:50] know to get started with a game of Dota

[30:53] 2 in my next video I'll be going through

[30:55] a list of Heroes that are quite valid

[30:59] per role that are common per role that

[31:01] are playable per role and we'll talk

[31:03] about improving ad DOA we'll talk about

[31:05] things like positioning fighting farming

[31:08] defending splitting cutting ratting

[31:10] ending comb backing and maintaining

[31:12] advantages when you're ahead I hope you

[31:14] enjoyed this one I'll see you next video
