45sOpens with a promise of a highly requested list, hooking viewers interested in romance anime tropes.
▶ Play ClipThe video presents a top 10 list of clichés in romance anime, as compiled by a self-proclaimed superfan of the genre. The host acknowledges his love for romance anime while critiquing the repetitive motifs that have become staples over the years.
Obligatory fan service episodes where characters visit a beach or pool, often disconnected from the main story.
The male lead is typically a nice, geeky, socially awkward, and oblivious character, as seen in animes like Amagami SS and Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions.
Characters often get caught in predicaments leading to misunderstandings that cause drama and overreactions.
Accidental tripping or walking in on changing girls leads to exaggerated reactions, a technique used heavily by Ken Akamatsu.
Romantic comedies often feature harems, with multiple girls interested in the male lead, as seen in works by Ken Akamatsu and Key.
In harem animes, all female characters are infatuated with the main guy, ignoring other potential love interests.
Harem animes inevitably include love triangles, often forced and melodramatic rather than interesting or comedic.
A common trope where the male lead must choose between a flat-chested tsundere and a big-busted character, exemplified in Baka and Test.
Almost every romance anime includes a tsundere, and often the male lead ends up with her, which the host finds cliché.
The worst cliché: romance animes, especially romantic comedies, often end on a dark, somber, melodramatic note, ruining the fun tone.
The host concludes that while he loves romance anime, the genre is full of clichés, with melodramatic endings being the most annoying. He invites viewers to share their own least favorite clichés.

10:02[00:00] hey guys the black CR guy and welcome to
[00:02] the first video for romance month I'm so
[00:05] freaking excited to get this month
[00:07] started and what better way to Kickstart
[00:09] romance month than by doing a top 10
[00:11] list that many of you have requested me
[00:13] to do and that is a list of the top 10
[00:16] cliches in romance anime now before we
[00:19] begin this list I want to share with you
[00:20] guys a little background information
[00:22] about myself especially if you're new to
[00:24] my channel and that's the fact that I'm
[00:25] a huge huge super mega Uber fan of the
[00:30] romance genre of anime particularly
[00:32] romantic comedy animes I eat that [ __ ]
[00:36] up guys and I enjoy it more than any
[00:38] other genre of anime so as I'm doing
[00:41] this list I want you to keep in mind
[00:43] that this is coming from somebody that
[00:44] considers himself a devout fan of this
[00:47] genre because I'm not going to deny that
[00:49] as much as I love this genre it is just
[00:51] chalk full of so many similar motifs
[00:55] similar characters similar setups
[00:57] similar situations that you see
[00:59] repeatedly over the course of many years
[01:01] that we have come to consider cliches
[01:04] and now I get to count the top 10 that I
[01:06] have noticed over the years when
[01:08] watching romance animes kickstarting our
[01:10] list in a very sexy way at number 10 is
[01:13] Beach or pool episodes in almost any
[01:16] given romance anime the main characters
[01:19] always partake in an obligatory trip to
[01:21] either a beach or a pool and most of the
[01:24] time it doesn't really connect to the
[01:25] main story its main purpose is to serve
[01:27] as fan service for the audience the show
[01:30] Girls and skimpy outfits splashing each
[01:32] other and messing around with the main
[01:34] characters and all and them just having
[01:36] fun mostly being the center of attention
[01:38] at number nine is the average nice kind
[01:41] of geeky and completely oblivious male
[01:44] leads in almost every single romance
[01:47] anime that I have seen the male lead
[01:50] always turns out to be this really nice
[01:52] guy who doesn't really have anything
[01:54] special going on with him he's a bit
[01:56] geeky or a little socially awkward and
[01:58] completely obl oblivious to the female
[02:01] lead's feelings about him or any other
[02:03] female for that matter now I can name a
[02:06] bunch of romance animes that fall prey
[02:08] to this cliche but to name a few you got
[02:11] amagami SS dust man of Amnesia Love
[02:14] chibio and Other delusions F A Tale of
[02:17] Memories and finally one we friends and
[02:20] honestly although this is a major cliche
[02:22] in romance anime again I don't really
[02:25] have much of a problem with this I like
[02:27] nice guys in animes and I'm happy when
[02:29] they actually get to get with the girl
[02:31] so you know as much as it's a cliche
[02:34] still really enjoy the cliche no it's
[02:36] not what it looks like at number eight
[02:38] misunderstandings there comes a point in
[02:40] many romance animes where the main
[02:42] character gets caught in a predicament
[02:44] that leads to a misunderstanding that
[02:46] causes this whole drama to spy out of
[02:49] control and people are either mad or
[02:51] they overreact to the situation and
[02:53] coincidentally my number eight cliche
[02:55] ties in with my number seven cliche and
[02:57] that is trip plus fall falling down
[03:00] equals
[03:01] overreaction now you could use many
[03:03] different variables in this equation but
[03:05] the end result is always the same the
[03:08] main male character does something by
[03:11] accident ends up tripping or ends up
[03:13] doing something that pisses off the main
[03:15] female character thus she then
[03:17] overreacts to the situation kakam matu
[03:20] the creator of Love Hena and neima is a
[03:23] master at this technique utilizing it
[03:25] prevalently in his mangas and adaptation
[03:28] of his mangas where the the main male
[03:30] character just happens to trip and go w
[03:32] w and he lands on the girl like right on
[03:36] top of her and she being assum today
[03:38] just overreacts and like beats him up
[03:40] and he sends him flying or he'll
[03:42] accidentally walk into a room while the
[03:44] girls are changing just out of
[03:46] coincidence and then they would be like
[03:48] you perfect and they overreact sometimes
[03:51] when used properly it is very funny but
[03:54] most of the time it just comes off as
[03:56] really forced comedy number six Harms
[04:00] just wouldn't be a romantic comedy
[04:02] without them am I right animes that fall
[04:04] under the harm cliche once again can
[04:07] alamu delivers as most of his animes are
[04:10] centered around a herum is this a zombie
[04:12] this poster behind me also deals with a
[04:15] herum in fact even key is responsible
[04:17] for some of the most famous Herms in
[04:20] anime from Clan ad to shuffle they have
[04:22] Herms in them and honestly that's the
[04:24] most straightforward cliche on this list
[04:26] there's not much more to add most
[04:28] romantic comedy have Herms in it but
[04:31] tying in with my number six cliche we
[04:33] got my number five cliche and that's the
[04:36] fact that every girl wants the male lead
[04:39] in almost every romantic comedy that is
[04:42] centered around a herum every single
[04:45] member of the herum just has a thing for
[04:49] the main character and doesn't go for
[04:51] any other guys whatsoever this bothered
[04:53] me in the fact that you know there are
[04:55] other guys out there that are
[04:57] interesting you know if they actually
[04:59] spend spend the time to go outside or
[05:01] even develop another male character I
[05:03] don't like it when a romance anime
[05:06] focuses solely on one guy trying to get
[05:09] with all the girls I would actually like
[05:10] to see the girls have romances with
[05:13] other guys you know their own romance
[05:15] why it have to be with the main guy it
[05:17] just was so bothersome and extremely
[05:19] cliche they always go for the main guy
[05:23] I'm sure Japan has more guys than this
[05:26] Average Joe that's really nice I'm sure
[05:29] there's like a bad boy somewhere a
[05:31] really intellectual man a really
[05:33] sophisticated person come on ladies
[05:35] don't don't just go for the closest
[05:37] thing near you go go Spread Your Horizon
[05:40] go meet other people either that these
[05:42] girls are just horny as [ __ ] and we'll
[05:43] jump at any guy near them which kind of
[05:46] makes sense because most Herms take
[05:48] place in high school when you know
[05:50] you're dealing with all these new
[05:51] hormones and all that stuff so it makes
[05:54] sense but we can just do with less of
[05:57] them from time to time diversity that's
[05:59] what gets you ahead and once again tying
[06:02] into my number six and my number five
[06:04] cliche we got my number four cliche
[06:06] which is love triangles where there is a
[06:10] Herm anime and where there is an anime
[06:13] where most of the girls are infatuated
[06:15] with the main male lead there is going
[06:18] to be a plethora of love triangles
[06:22] guaranteed and honestly and I sound like
[06:24] a broken record here I don't really have
[06:26] a major problem with love triangles as
[06:28] long as they handled in a very
[06:30] interesting or very comedic way but in
[06:33] most romance animes the love triangle
[06:36] just comes off as this really forc
[06:38] melodrama that's thrown into the anime
[06:40] because we got to add more attention oh
[06:42] my God who's he going to choose oh
[06:44] they're fighting over him oh my God it's
[06:46] crazy stop that [ __ ] either make it
[06:49] interesting or make it funny otherwise
[06:51] don't bother putting a love triangle in
[06:53] the anime because it's just going to
[06:55] come off as really pointless and stupid
[06:57] and once again sounding very very
[06:59] repetitive like the cliches on this list
[07:02] my number four cliche also ties in with
[07:04] my number three cliche in fact my number
[07:06] three choice is the most unique cliche
[07:09] on this list but that doesn't change the
[07:11] fact that it's used so abundantly now
[07:14] that it's gotten to the point where it's
[07:15] just dull generic and really annoying to
[07:18] see and that is the whole flat chest
[07:22] versus big bust in almost every romantic
[07:26] comedy anime and sometimes in some
[07:28] Romance animes the main male character
[07:31] has to choose between the adultlike big
[07:34] breasted chick or the childlike
[07:37] flatchested chick who always turns out
[07:40] to be the Sund of the anime the biggest
[07:43] offender of this cliche that comes to
[07:45] mind is without a doubt Baka and Tess
[07:48] where it's shown prevalently throughout
[07:51] the entire Series where our main
[07:53] character akaha Yoshi will point out how
[07:55] heii has these big women likee breasts
[07:59] and and that Mami has these really small
[08:01] little girl type breast and it was funny
[08:04] now and again but it just got really
[08:07] really really repetitive afterwards and
[08:10] speaking of breast sizes we got my
[08:13] number two cliche and I think you all
[08:16] know what it is by me referring to
[08:19] breast sizes and that is of course Sund
[08:24] days almost every romance anime that I
[08:28] have seen has had a Sund day in it I I
[08:31] can't even right at this moment I can't
[08:33] even think of a romance anime that I
[08:35] have seen that doesn't have a suay
[08:38] character and even if they didn't one
[08:41] character will display Sunday like
[08:44] characteristics or has a sun day like
[08:47] personality but might not be considered
[08:49] a full suer day but they are just
[08:52] prevalent especially in romantic comedy
[08:55] animes and to name all of the sun days
[08:58] that I know I mean will be be here
[09:00] forever forever there are just too many
[09:03] to name not only that I hate that in
[09:07] most romantic comedy animes and
[09:09] sometimes even in most romance animes
[09:11] the main character ends up with the
[09:13] sunnd day I mean almost like seven times
[09:16] out of 10 he will end up with the soon
[09:18] today character of the anime and I'm
[09:20] like why there's that girl and that girl
[09:24] she's more interesting than her why
[09:26] would you go with the suer day such a
[09:28] cop out that in itself is a cliche hell
[09:31] you can make a whole another top 10 list
[09:34] on cliches with soon today characters
[09:36] that's how cliché sunnd days are in
[09:39] Romance animes but I bet a lot of you
[09:41] are shocked not to see sunnd days at the
[09:44] number one spot and that's because there
[09:46] is another cliche in Romance animes that
[09:50] not only are just really annoying but I
[09:52] [ __ ] hate them these are the worst
[09:55] cliches to have in a romance animes I
[09:57] cannot stand this cliche and that is
[10:02] melodramatic
[10:05] endings every romance anime except for
[10:08] one there was one that didn't have it it
[10:11] was all my goddess it actually ended on
[10:13] a really comedic note and I loved it it
[10:15] bucked the trend because almost every
[10:17] romance anime at that point and from
[10:20] beyond that point too always ended on a
[10:23] melodramatic note like something just
[10:26] over the top happens or characters
[10:28] become really sad and I hate it when
[10:31] it's like romantic comedy animes that
[10:33] have been relatively funny and enjoyable
[10:35] and Lively automatically just turn
[10:38] really dark and somber and sad it really
[10:41] kills the mood of the anime you're like
[10:44] man I was having so much fun then that
[10:48] happened I don't really want to watch
[10:50] this anymore it is the only cliche on
[10:53] this list that I absolutely cannot stand
[10:56] I want it gone I don't want to see it
[10:58] any anymore in Romance animes especially
[11:01] my romantic comedies keep that [ __ ] out
[11:04] of the romantic comedies and on a much
[11:07] lighter note why does it have to end in
[11:10] such a melodramatic
[11:12] fashion that was a tiate if ever there
[11:15] was one and that's why melodramatic
[11:18] endings are the number one cliches in
[11:22] Romance animes and that ladies and
[11:25] gentlemen was my list of the top 10
[11:27] cliches in Romance anime and I would
[11:30] like to know what you guys thought about
[11:31] my list did you agree with it did you
[11:33] disagree with it did you feel like I
[11:34] left any cliches out cuz I'm pretty sure
[11:37] that I did and let me know what is a
[11:40] cliche that you see a lot in romance
[11:42] anime that you just cannot stand anymore
[11:45] and you want it to just go away forever
