08:56[00:00] Airplanes, mountains, beaches, hotel lobbies, airport lounges. I've managed to balance business and pleasure driven by a desire to
[00:12] not only experience the world, but do so while I was earning a living. I recently used a starlink connection to check in on the racing in the uk. If you want the freedom to travel while you trade safely and consistently,
[00:29] So let's get moving.
[00:43] So the job that I had prior to BET Fair Trading that I quit to actually go and trade on bet fair, full-time for a living actually involved international travel. It was something that I'd wanted to do for many years and it was something that I
[00:55] with me to my bet Fair Trading career. But at the start, I didn't have those sort of aspirations. So my very first setup that I had at home.
[01:09] Um, and I just cobbled together what hardware I had and It was a pretty basic start to my Betfair trading career. on quite a bit and I now have my own dedicated trading office, and that
[01:28] includes facilities where I can trade in front of my screen or if I want a slightly more relaxing experience on my sofa in front of the B TV screen. But the most important thing about this journey is not the transition
[01:41] It's the ability to be able to trade remote. would book a hotel that had wifi and internet, but it turned out that you
[01:56] were sharing that with 300 other guests at the hotel, and the connection was So my solution to that was to actually rent a house. that did bring on other issues as well.
[02:12] This was in the days when, uh, streaming live pitches from So I actually used to cart around with me a satellite dish, one that you basically point it at the right satellite.
[02:28] So yeah, I would go through that enormous hassle to be able to trade remotely. But the benefit was that I would stay in a beautiful location, um, and I It wasn't the same as sitting back at my office, uh, but it was about
[02:44] as close as you could possibly get. by that I mean internet connections started to speed up and become more reliable, which meant that I could pretty much trade from anywhere.
[02:59] Now, when you mention streaming, nowadays, most people think of Netflix, When you were traveling with the family, but necessarily it meant that bookmakers and betting exchanges were actually streaming live sports events,
[03:14] And that meant that all you needed really was a decent internet connection, that laptop or a spare screen. And this has been something that I've done throughout my journey, is take pictures
[03:30] of where I've traded just so that I can look back and reflect on my journey. dawn of Airbnb and those types of services, because no longer was I.
[03:43] Chastised by hotel groups and the locations in which they were, uh, All of a sudden I could actually choose a location very specific for my needs, speak to the host, get everything sorted out beforehand, and suddenly that really
[03:58] with absolutely the perfect facilities to be able to actively trade from. This was a major upgrade in terms of the ability to be able to trade remotely.
[04:12] So as time has moved on, I've settled into this pattern whereby if I want to The ideal setup for me is actually to have a laptop and an iPad because I can from, and that could be inside a hotel.
[04:29] Um, at an Airbnb, uh, or pretty much anywhere. you will be amazed by some of them. the things that I always dreamt of.
[04:43] But the interesting thing is you literally can trade from pretty much anywhere. So you may laugh, but I've actually just done a few trades here and
[04:55] I'm at about 10,000 feet altitude, but I can get a 4G signal here. Um, I'm getting about 10 meg and about five up or so on. But yeah, it's possible to trade nowadays from virtually anywhere.
[05:10] things that I always wanted to do, and I'm taking the opportunity now to They've seen some of the places that I've been to and they often say to me, So when I take a break, I'll often bring them along with me now and,
[05:26] uh, give them the benefit of my experience of these locations. I'd love to go to Yosemite. So I knew from prior experience a great place to stay was in West Yosemite.
[05:41] It's the only place nearby that has proper housing and you can rent houses there. But there was one thing that really caught my eye when I decided to do this rental.
[05:53] Outta contact with everybody. somebody in an emergency. Uh, but really, you truly are in the middle of nowhere.
[06:09] So when I'm expecting not to be in contact, um, at all, I'll But the interesting thing about the rental that we took is that it actually had a starlink connection, and I've never really used a starlink connection before.
[06:25] Uh, so I was quite intrigued to understand just how effective this all when you're in the mountains. effective this technology was.
[06:39] So I fired up BET Angel with total performance data and And the interesting thing was, is I was picking up a round trip time.
[06:51] You tend to use streaming, uh, but it was perfectly viable to use The only issue being when starlink, um, dropped the satellite that it
[07:04] out, but it worked pretty well. something special with my daughter, which is exactly what I did.
[07:17] if it was viable for trading. You can trade via starlink. in terms of remote trading.
[07:33] problem I was trying to solve was I needed a high speed internet And um, because I'd worked for an internet service provider,
[07:45] And that was to actually connect to BET Angel through a Windows server. I set up BET Angel on a window server and then remoted into it from my laptop.
[07:58] And that had a number of benefits because it was very, very low bandwidth, But also it meant that bet Angel could work for me remotely, even if the connection dropped, it could basically tidy up positions for me, manage all
[08:12] of those positions via automation servants or however I wanted to do it. So I could actively trade on a. Very high speed connection in the uk, but Um, but also the reliability aspects of it were significantly enhanced and it was
[08:30] But eventually as I progressed through that particular journey, we ended up getting our own equipment set up at a data center, um, and tweaking and refining And that sort of ended up becoming.
[08:43] The bet Angel VPS service as you see it now, it's a great way of connecting, uh, back to a very high speed connection in the uk near the BET Fair servers, but ultimately it's a very low bandwidth connection at the other end.
[08:56] And I put this to the test once when I was flying over the Atlantic because the plane Had half decent, uh, wifi in it. Let's fire up my VPS connection with BET Angel on it and see if I
[09:12] can actively trade from a plane and rather bizarrely it turned out that to trade with confidence remotely.
[09:24] is if you can't trade, uh, behind a desk, then you're not going to be That really just isn't going to work. in the same way that I did.
[09:38] I got better and better at trading, and then I was ready to take the I needed to get that confidence behind me and know exactly what I was doing. And then it was a case of trying to solve all of those technological
[09:52] Now, fortunately, as technology has moved on and the world has gone into this sort of remote working, uh, era, that has become much more viable and it's much, So if you want to be able to trade remotely.
[10:08] That's the point that I'm trying to get across in this video, show you the similar at some point, for whatever reason you choose to do so, you can do it too.
