WoW Remix is so broken a healer out-DPSed a Demon Hunter
58sThe absurd power disparity and broken tuning—where a healer out-DPSes a DPS and 15-minute fights die in 20 seconds—make an immediately shareable 'this game is broken' moment.
▶ Play Clip"Title is hyperbolic, but the video genuinely recounts how Remix derailed his work—more confessional than true clickbait."
In this confessional vlog, a content creator explains why his planned WoW Remix video fell apart: constant design changes turned the project into a moving target, forcing him to scrap the script and talk through the chaos instead. The video doubles as an analysis of Mists of Pandaria Remix—an experimental WoW mode he argues is full of contradictions, overpowered systems, and a tug-of-war between player freedom and Blizzard's control.
He promised Skillcap a quick bonus video by end of day, but constant changes to WoW Remix turned it into a nightmare; he threw out the script and is now making a casual Vlog instead.
An experimental game mode on Dragonflight servers (not MoP Classic) built around one-off systems, like gear acting as conduits for gems where item level scales gem power.
Leveling is the core pitch, but Remix is alt-unfriendly: gems and Bronze aren't account-bound, off-pieces were only recently made account-bound, and the cloak isn't fully shared.
A fully account-wide cloak would let low-level characters enter scaled dungeons and break tuning; even the small boost from the current cloak is enough to unbalance the leveling experience.
Random heroics were 3–5 minute boss fights, then days later Scarlet Halls took 90 seconds; Echo killed Heroic Shakeir in 20 seconds while others couldn't get into Heroic raids.
The slogan 'overpowered maybe' made stat imbalance part of the design: a Resto Druid out-damaged a Demon Hunter while the DH out-healed the Druid.
Remix uses Dragonflight's upgrade system with Bronze as currency, while the cloak is progressed by farming threads and is uncapped, allowing characters to grow without limit.
Players rediscovered the classic Timeless Isle frog farm; it used established tech and was iconic, but it was so lucrative that Blizzard nerfed it about 24 hours after it went mainstream.
After the nerf, players moved to new farms. 'Froggers' amassed extreme power—one random Blood DK had 10x the speaker's health—and raids of them flattened Heroic bosses and even Mythic Gar.
Remix is less about gems or currency and more about uncapped progression in a game that normally uses weekly-capped Crests, Bullion, and Sparks to tightly control player power.
Despite the 'overpowered maybe' tagline, Blizzard nerfed each discovered farm, revealing that its systems exist to prevent players from farming 18 hours a day.
Blizzard rolled back cloaks above an arbitrary threshold but ignored item upgrades—the dominant source of power—so Froggers kept their god-tier status.
Non-Froggers received a compensation 'stimulus check' based on an arbitrary frog kill count; players in the middle got nothing and are left amused rather than angry.
Remix is a land of contrasts: a casual experience rewarding degenerate play, a lovely mode that hates alts, an experiment afraid to take risks—chaos that is hard to summarize in a single video.
MoP Remix ultimately emerges as a contradictory experiment where Blizzard both invited players to break the game and scrambled to control them when they did. The creator closes by asking the audience what content they want next, promising a non-Remix video soon.
What is WoW Remix?
Mists of Pandaria Remix, an experimental game mode on Dragonflight servers that includes systems like gem-conduit gear.
01:11
How does gear work in MoP Remix?
Items are conduits for gems, and the item level of the item scales the power of the gem.
01:26
What was the marketing slogan for MoP Remix?
"Overpowered maybe."
04:58
What are the two main progression systems in Remix?
Bronze-upgraded gear (using Dragonflight's upgrade system) and an uncapped cloak farmed through threads.
05:27
Who were 'Froggers'?
Players who abused the ultra-lucrative Timeless Isle frog farm to amass extreme power; they were labeled after the farm was nerfed.
06:34
How did Blizzard respond to the frog farm?
They nerfed the farm after about 24 hours, rolled back cloaks above an arbitrary threshold, but didn't roll back item upgrades, leaving Froggers powerful.
10:06
What did Blizzard give non-Froggers?
A 'stimulus check' based on an arbitrary number of frogs killed, to help them catch up.
11:13
Tuning as a post-truth environment
Shows how drastically Remix's difficulty swung between brutally hard dungeons and instantly melted bosses, making balance meaningless.
03:45'Overpowered maybe' was a deliberate stance
Confirms Blizzard knowingly embraced stat imbalance, justifying the chaotic power dynamic that defined the mode.
04:43Frog farm was established tech, not a real exploit
Highlights the grey area between legitimate farming and unintended play that drove Blizzard's intervention.
05:55The real experiment was player agency
Reframes the entire mode as a test of unshackled character progression, the core design lesson of Remix.
07:30Rollback targeted cloaks, not upgrades
Exposes the arbitrary and incomplete nature of Blizzard's corrective action.
10:06[00:02] reasons you might think uh being a YouTuber is not a hard job but when you agree to work for a corporation like skillcap you have deadlines and obligations and if you agree to do a thing you've got to deliver it so we had
[00:14] a production slle lined up with videos planned and I was like hey Brian you remix had some interesting thoughts I've already written this script as like a up and it can go on the on the channel as a little bonus thing it can be done
[00:28] by the end of the day and you know we we agree to that I start to prepare to do the vo and oh some changes have dropped and that's a bit factor that in and then it changed some more and more changes and more changes
[00:42] and it's become a nightmare of a moving Target so uh you know the other the other day I said screw it threw the whole script out wrote one half as long whiteboard where I'm justifying why the video is late and the audio for that
[00:57] didn't work out and it looks kind of like garbage and it's it's embarrassing so that's also going in the bin and you know at this point it is a matter of just cutting our losses so I've got the old script here and we're just going to
[01:11] bit of a casual Vlog we're going to just talk about the the chaos that ensued in my life as a result of of wow remix mop remix otherwise known as time running is this event currently going on on the dragonflight servers it is not in fact
[01:26] mop classic um but it's an experimental game mode all about leveraging these with ideas that we'll talk about a little bit in the video one example of these experimental systems would be the the weird gem system that gear uses you
[01:38] don't have classic gear instead you have these items which are conduits for gems and the item level of the item scales the the power of the gem beyond that the a leveling experience or at least leveling focused the only tangible
[01:53] you get to keep the characters themselves obviously so people rightly alts while earning the money to buy interesting about remix is how it's just it's ladened with contradictions so the
[02:07] this leveling experience cuz you have this idea of of leveling being the core interaction but then the remix experience is actually quite ult unfriendly when you get into it you know gems aren't account bound bronze isn't
[02:20] bound off pieces were just recently made account bound so if your primary goal is off sticking with one character and gearing that guy up as as opposed to this whole Army of of alts thing even the cloak isn't fully bind on account
[02:34] second turns out I lied we're talking about the cloak right now the the marketing for remix sort of implies that the cloak would be fully account wide and be shared between all the the guys um but if you've done anything with
[02:47] Freehold boosting runs you know that you can't give lowl characters access to enter a scaled environment like a dungeon it just breaks everything so as it stands what we got is a very small boost relatively speaking on the cloak
[03:04] small amount of extra intellect small amount of extra verse um but that is enough still to completely break the lowlevel experience and completely bork the tuning so this is the problem because one of the core features of
[03:16] remix is making rating into a viable leveling strategy they want you to be able to go to mugan vault at level 20 and and do things um so you end up with characters are just mogging the out of level 70 guys um because they have way
[03:30] too much haste and way too much verse and and whatever it got so bad that wad characters boost max level characters through LFR and stuff like that um and max level characters because they were going with lower level characters for
[03:45] for the sake of of tuning um and this would only be offset by the rise of of really wanted to talk about remix because you know it wants to be this being dominated by this discussion of tuning and scaling and I find that
[04:02] doing just random heroics in the group finder was a complete nightmare it was like the bosses were like you know like I was pushing tyrannical keys right like they'd go on for 3 to 5 minutes and they were terrifying but even just a few days
[04:17] half time it will take us to do individual bosses like he would do Scarlet halls in 90 seconds or something and the same thing was happening with the rating content where on the one hand you had reports of the heroic being
[04:29] was acknowledging that it's too hard to get into the heroic raids while meanwhile you had Echo plays killing um heroic shakier at 15minute fight originally in 20 seconds it was like this this posttruth environment where
[04:43] tuning would be true under some circumstances so for instance my first raid was a normal Siege of Ora where our normal mode garage kill we had a Resto Druid who just maintaining his dots Sunfire Moonfire outdamaged our Demon
[04:58] Hunter flat out but that Demon Hunter out healed the Resto Druid this wasn't this Dynamic was deliberate from Blizzard or at least known from blizzard because the slogan for remix was overpowered maybe um and you know whilst
[05:13] I'm sure it wasn't the the intention in reality You Know Remix is not a leveling experience it isn't a cosmetic farming experience it is all about navigating this power curve either embracing it and following it or in rejecting it so the
[05:27] way gearing works on remix is that it uh uses the same upgrade system that we have on dragonfly but that is the the major source of progression all endgame item level and you invest Bronze in it to to upgrade it all the way through um
[05:42] have that element and then you have the cloak being progressed through farming threads and whatever and that that whole thing is that it is uncapped you can get as big as you want with that uh cloak so if you know anything about remix you'll
[05:55] know about these frogs and so what what happened is that a few days into remix players know noticed the old frog Farm on the Timeless aisle was was very effective like too effective so it's relevant to the character of the farm to
[06:07] willing to call it an exploit some people rejected that that was a bit of of arguing about this um I sort of fall somewhere in the middle where you know farm this was you know the most iconic Farm of Mr Pandaria um and it used
[06:21] established Tech so it was an established Farm using established Tech the only red flag really is that it was so lucrative that like maybe there was intended should we be doing this so I would have been fine with the farm maybe
[06:34] about 24 hours after the thing went mainstream killed the uh the farm and players perhaps predictably moved on to the next farm so what we have is a game an overpowered farming spot use it for around 24 hours before blizzard catches
[06:50] up and Nerfs it over the course of remix's life these degenerate Farmers have accured an unbelievable amount of power and gave themselves the convenient label of Froggers help distinguish the god Kings from Mia men so just as an
[07:02] anecdote here's a random blood DK who was also on my server who I came across and this was about a week into remix where he had 10 times my health and 14 point you've just you've you've broken the entire game so a raid full of
[07:16] players like this just as we saw before um flattens heroic bosses in a matter of seconds even Mythic gar the the end boss of this entire experience um is already a shadow of his former glory in just the second week of remix and and it shows
[07:30] that remix is on track to turn to slop by the end of of the event in in August planned this but they weren't planning for us to get there this quickly so to me the true experiment of remix was not the weird Gems or the universal currency
[07:47] it was uh about experimenting with giving players more agency when it comes to character progression it was about the uncap systems and letting us go wild because over the last few years blizzard has become very tight grip
[07:59] with player power um and this is most notable through like the use of Sparks Crest bullion these these currencies with Rising weekly caps um which have a throughout the whole uh gaming experience so dragonflight has this list
[08:15] chores you've got to do your raids for your bullion you got to do your M plus for your Crest and to fill your Vault out and you got to do your last for your Sparks whatever and remix is about inverting all that and saying screw the
[08:28] chores get the stuff however you want every mob drops bronze every mob drops threads you can do the raids you can go do Bloody law Master for bronze if you want do whatever you want and get this stuff your way and that's that's a
[08:42] time it seems like blizzard hasn't let go of this idea of the correct way to play um because you know because when players found this Farm their first instinct was to Nerf it and when the next Farm was found the Instinct was to
[08:57] Nerf it um blizzard don't want want us engaging in in true degeneracy as we're so prone to do like not to not to plug my own stuff but like I did a whole video with this about this ful folding ideas you know a year and a half ago
[09:10] play and this idea of the of the battlefield of negotiation about um the figure out what the correct way to play the game is because ultimately Crest and bullying and so on are a response to this fact that if you let players farm
[09:26] for 18 hours a day they'll do that so the fact that we had players hitting a cap on the uncapped cloak to me isn't shocking to me it's it's the obvious thing to expect to happen and you know with that tagline of overpowered maybe I
[09:40] thought blizzard was okay with it but the way they've acted since the launch of remix would have you think that they didn't see this coming like it hadn't crossed their mind that players would would find the the gaps in the system
[09:53] that would do all this stuff so this is what has made making a video about remix so difficult because you have these contradictions within contradictions you know to me plays deing to farm their cloaks up it seemed like a really
[10:06] predictable outcome it seemed like the obvious thing but blizzards acting as if they didn't see it coming um so when it came to to the subject of rolling back the Frogger cloaks and undoing the the Frog Farms I thought that was an insane
[10:18] idea I thought there was no chance that would happen at all um but sure enough rolling back the cloaks on players who did these enormous Farms um but even doesn't make any sense because what they did to capture the fact that there was a
[10:33] picked an arbitrary number which they thought represented the correct amount of cloak to have um and so they rolled back anyone above that number back to back anyone above that number back to that cloak State um fair enough fine but
[10:47] what they didn't do was roll back the upgrades on the items which was actually like the dominant source of power that's where most of the stats were actually the than the cloaks so the result is that the Frog haven't really lost their
[11:00] god tier status and they're fine to keep to keep farming cuz they found new Farms again as you'd expect them to do um so the Cycles kept going and so for the non-fr Froggers for the people who didn't exploit these systems blizzard
[11:13] released what can only really be called a stimulus check designed to be like a like like an I'm sorry or to get players caught up and so they did that based on killed frogs and picking an arbitrary number of frogs to have killed which
[11:26] they considered to be unreasonable so so the Froggers weren't really set back and the players who didn't Farm any frogs they get a steamy check they're happy um players who fell in the middle who killed some frogs but not enough to get
[11:39] their cloak rolled back players Like Yours Truly who like you know I farmed footage for and to keep up with the Joneses and and whatever I I'm not looking for forgiveness I'm not tilted about it it's just it's very funny so to
[11:52] sum up remix is a land of contrast it is a casual experience that has rewarded our most degenerate instincts there's a lovely experience that hates olds it is an experiment that was afraid to take risk it is chaos manifested and I don't
[12:07] know how you make a video about it so that's why it's not ready yet sir so if you're you're a real one and I want to hear what you have to say um what do you few months during the rest of season 4
[12:21] um as You' have noticed season 4 is this very vile blend of God comp and old dungeons with low participation so we aren't really sure how to handle this it seems like you know there there is an audience for season 4 content um but we
[12:35] necessarily want to want to see do you want you know dungeon guides for these these older uh dungeons um do you want us to start moving towards like you know previewing War within stuff do you want us focusing on that early um let us let
[12:49] us know what interests you the the most yes thank you so much for watching and we'll see you next week with something that isn't remix related fingers crossed
